You have selected to command the United Star-Ship Battle Crusier AMUS.
This battle cruiser is completely computerized by the powerful Alpha Micro
680XX series computer and the AMOS operating system. The Galaxy is mapped
in a square, 8 Quadrants horizontal and 8 Quadrants vertical, each
containing an 8x8 sector. Your objective as Captain of the U.S.S AMUS,
should you decide to accept the mission, is to destroy all the enemy
Klingons in the galaxy, within the time limit of 30 stardates. The U.S.S.
AMUS is equipped with impulse drive, warp drive, phasers, photons,
shields, short range and long range scans, and the computer. The main
control panel is the numeric key pad.

The keypad control panel activates Impulse and Warp
drives, course direction, speed, Phaser's, phaser
direction, Photon's, photon direction, Shield's,
shield power percentage, Short range system scan, Long
range memory scan, Computer Damage report's and system
repairs. All selections are respondent to one key
input. A carriage return or 0 will abort a selection.
IMPULSE ENGINES:
Press Keypad 1 - IMPULSE ENGINE CONTROL
Allows use of Impulse engines which moves U.S.S AMUS around
within a sector. After Impulse engines are activated, press the
numberic keypad number that corresponds with the direction you
wish to travel within the sector.

A course selection of 4 will direct the U.S.S. AMUS in a West
vector. A course selection of 3 will direct the U.S.S. AMUS in a
southeast vector. After course direction you must select speed.
A selection from impulse speed 1 to impulse speed 8 is
available. Each unit of impulse power will move the U.S.S AMUS
approximately one sector depending on the ships status. A
Carriage return or 0 will abort to ship command status.
WARP DRIVE:
Press Keypad 2 - WARP DRIVE CONTROL
Allows use of Warp drive which moves U.S.S AMUS around the
galaxy. After Warp drive is activated, press the numeric keypad
number that corresponds with the direction you wish to travel
within the galaxy.

A selection from Warp 1 to Warp 8 is available. Each unit of
Warp speed will move the U.S.S AMUS one quadrant depending on
the ships sector location within the quadrant it is leaving. A
Carriage return or 0 will abort to ship command status.
SHORT RANGE SCAN:
Press Keypad 3 - SHORT RANGE SCAN CONTROL
Selection of Short Range Scan will display the conditions in space of each
quadrant surrounding the present quadrant the U.S.S. AMUS is located in.

Above is a short range scan from quadrant 4,5 which is the one in the
middle (003). The "K" column shows the number of KLINGON ships, the
"B" column shows the number of Star Bases, the "S" column shows how
many stars are in each quadrant. The above sample shows 3 stars in
quadrant 4,5, (the one the ship is in). The upper adjacent quadrant
(3,5) shows 2 KLINGONS, 1 Star Base, and 3 stars. A Warp drive from
quadrant 4,5 to quadrant 3,5 would put the U.S.S in a condition RED,
Combat situation with 2 KLINGONS, 1 Star Base, and 3 stars.
PHASERS:
Press Keypad 4 - PHASER CONTROL
Allows destruction of KLINGONS by fighting them in dogfight by
fireing phaser bolts at them. The KLINGONS can fire back and can
destroy the U.S.S AMUS' shield. The screen displayed is a PHASER
gun sight. You must manuver the U.S.S AMUS to get the KLINGON
within a 5000km distance and between an elevation no greater
than 10 degrees and no less than -10 degrees of center, and a
bearing no more than 10 degrees, of center. Once the above
criteria is met you may fire. Remember you are in the U.S.S AMUS
following a KLINGON in a dogfight. You must manuver the U.S.S
AMUS with the Keypad control, 4 will move you left, 8 will move
you up, 2 down, 6 right, 7 up and left, 9 up and right, 1 down
and left, 3 down and right. 0 is the fire key. 5 will abort
PHASER operation and return to Command Status. The KLINGON will
appear to move opposite your commands because the ship is
chasing the KLINGON not controlling the KLINGON's movements. 3
indirect hits on a KLINGON will destroy the KLINGON. 1 DIRECT
dead center hit on a KLINGON will destroy the KLINGON.
PHOTON TORPEDOES
Press Keypad 5 - PHOTON TORPEDO CONTROL
Allows destruction of a KLINGON by fireing Photon torpedoes.
After selection of Photon torpedoes is made, you must select the
direction the Photon torpedo is fired. The direction selection
is made with the keypad control much like direction of Impulse
engines or Warp drive is made.

A course selection of 4 will direct the Photon torpedo in a West
vector. A course selection of 3 will direct the Torpedo in a
southeast vector. Torpedoes will travel the length of the
quadrant you are located in until it hits a KLINGON, Star Base,
or star, or until it hits the edge of a quadrant. A Carriage
return or 0 will abort the fireing of a Photon torpedo. One
torpedo hit will destroy a KLINGON.
SHIELDS:
Press Keypad 6 - SHIELD CONTROL
You have a selection of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%
shield power. Shield power is taken from the total
amount of Energy available from the FUEL RODS. Shields
protect the U.S.S. AMUS from Phaser and Photon attacks
from the KLINGON'S. After selecting Shield control you
must enter a number for the percentage of shield power
you want, 0=0%, 1=25%, 2=50%, 3=75%, 4=100%. Each step
in shield percentage takes 500 units of Energy from the
FUEL RODS. If there is not enough energy for the
selected amount of shield power then Shield control will
not allow that selection. If Shield strength goes below
1 unit and the U.S.S. AMUS is attacked the U.S.S AMUS
will be destroyed.
LONG RANGE LIBRARY SCAN:
Press Keypad 7 - LONG RANGE LIBRARY SCAN CONTROL
The Long Range Library scan shows a computer memory of
the galaxy and the results of all previous short range
scans. The Long Range Library is only updated when short
range scans are made. Therefore in order to keep an
accurate history of previous quadrant travels, make
short range scans often. Even after you have destroyed
KLINGON'S in an quadrant so that your Long Range Library
will be accurate.
COMPUTER:
Press Keypad 8 - COMPUTER CONTROL
Since the U.S.S. AMUS is computer controlled this is the
heart of the U.S.S. AMUS. Computer Control selection has
two options, damage control report and damage repair.
1 - Damage Control Report :
Gives the existing condition rating of all devices,
displayed in the Command Center. A rating of less
than 100% will render a device unoperable or off
in its operation.
2 - Damage Repair:
Allows repairs to be made on a selected device.
Each unit of repair takes 100 units of Energy from
the FUEL RODS. If a device is damaged 2.345 units,
it will take at least 3 repair units or 150 units
of energy to repair the device. Devices are:
IMPULSE, WARP, SHORT RANGE SCAN, PHASERS, PHOTONS,
LONG RANGE SCAN, COMPUTER.
These intructions are brief as compared to what all can happen to the
U.S.S. AMUS on its travels through the GALAXY. Different levels of
action are available from real easy (1) to extremely difficult (9).
Different situations arise with different levels of action, displays
speed up, random klingon movement is faster, damages occur more
often, energy is absorbed more for each operation and more.
HINTS:
Docking with a StarBase will replenish fuel rods and repair all
damages with one repair unit. StarBase shields will also
protect the U.S.S AMUS during an attack.
Quick reaction to keypad controls at higher levels of action
will lessen the possibility of KLINGON movement within a
quadrant.
Phasers will not be as accurate if the Computer is damaged.
It is possible to fly out of the 8x8 galaxy. Retrace your
flight course to fly back into the galaxy.
