Philippines dengue tally tops 170K!!!

Philippines health officials reported an additional 12,000 + dengue
fever cases since our last report (https://bit.ly/3D0kpyD) bringing
the cumulative total to 172,985 through September 24. This is
a 197 percent increase compared to the same period last year
(58,157). The death toll has risen to 528 year to date. Central
Luzon reports the most cases, accounting for 20%, with 34,399.
This is followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with
18,544, Calabarzon (14,943) and the Cagayan valley region (14,293).
Dengue is mainly spread by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and, to a lesser
extent, Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. It is caused by any of four
dengue virus serotypes, each of which can cause dengue fever
or severe dengue. The prevalence of individual serotypes varies
across different geographies, countries, regions, seasons and over
time. Recovery from infection by one serotype provides lifelong
immunity against only that serotype, and later exposure to any
of the remaining serotypes is associated with an increased risk
of severe disease.
