Eight prophets drowned because of the "holy stick"

Eight prophets from the apostolic sect Vadzidzi vaJeso drowned
in the Mazowa River in the Zimbabwean district of Rushing
when they tried to extract the "holy stick" from the water during
the ritual of choosing a new chief Baptist. This is reported by
New Zimbabwe (https://bit.ly/3GUqIE6). Timothy Tiguere,
Development Coordinator for Central Mashonaland Province,
said that the leader of the apostolic sect, Vadzidzi vaJeso,
intended to elect a Baptist among its followers. He gathered the
prophets and threw a stick into the river. The leader told the
applicants that the new Baptist would be someone who could get
her out of the river. Eleven cultists dived into the water at the
behest of the leader, causing eight of them to drown. The
identities of the victims have not yet been established.
One of the eyewitnesses said that in the morning the members
of the sect went to the river and stood in line for prayer. The
prophets stood in front, and everyone in the audience began to
sing. "Then the prophets fell into a trance and jumped into the
river, as a result of which they drowned. The incident was
reported to the police. The bodies were removed from the river
and taken to the morgue," he said. The local civil defense unit
is raising funds to buy coffins, fuel and food to help the families
of the victims. A police spokesman noted that he was not yet
ready to comment. Earlier it was reported that to fight the
mysterious killer of men in the city of Gwanda in southwestern
Zimbabwe, they decided to involve a specialist in the expulsion
of supernatural forces. The prophet of the Apostolic Church
of Zion in Central Africa, Mehluli Moyo, is looking for the
creature.
