There are several aspects to software preservation, one of which is |

preserving the contents of the physical media used to distribute |
|
software before network distribution became the norm. For much older |
|
software, especially games, media preservation is required to ensure |
|
proper operation of the software. Even when it isn't required, it is |
|
still a useful way to guarantee an unmodified copy of the software. |
