INTRODUCTION
===============================================================================
Welcome to my FAQ for The Wild Rings on XBOX. Since this is my first
ever FAQ you'll probably see alot of things missing, but I hope to
correct these over time. This FAQ is totally devised by me just from
playing the game since I don't know ANY japanese at all.
So let's get to it shall we?
The Wild Rings is a unique game being that it isn't a wrestling game
and it isn't a shootfighting game. You can choose from two modes of
play. Pro-Wrestling or Total Fighting.
In short Pro-Wrestling mode is uh, Pro-Wrestling and Total Fighting
is Shootfighting/MMA.
There are 11 fighting styles in this game where 3 are pro-wrestling
style and the other 8 lean toward MMA. I wont go on any more about
the fine details since no one will probably read this anyway but all
I can say is this game is really fun and with a bit more time spent
on it, could have been a really outstanding game.
Enough of that, onto the FAQ.

FIGHT STYLES
===============================================================================
The thing that makes TWR unique is the many different styles of
fighting. Where else could you have a legit match between Chris
Benoit and Mike Tyson? Want to relive Inoki v Ali? Want to squash
Triple H with a sumo? I know you do, as do we all.
There are 11 fighting styles in TWR.
Pro-Wrestling (Puroresu)
American Pro-Wrestling
Lucha Libre
Total Fighting (Shootwrestling)
Shoot Wrestling (Mixed Martial Arts)
Judo
Amateur Wrestling
Sumo Wrestling
Karate
Boxing
Kickboxing
Each style has it's own (as I like to call it) Style Specific
Action. For example American Pro-Wrestling - The R trigger is
to grapple and the L trigger is for a trademark taunt.
Shootfighters R trigger is a grapple whereas the L trigger is
the shoot button.
I will list each SSA in the gameplay section.
===============================================================================
GAMEPLAY
===============================================================================
OK, I will break this part down into specific gameplay actions
ie. Striking/Grappling/Submission etc.
For this part I will use some abbreviations like
TWR - The Wild Rings
L Thumb - Left Thumbstick
R Thumb - Right Thumbstick
===============================================================================
MOVEMENT : The two thumbsticks are the basis of all movement in TWR.
The L Thumb's only uses are for moving your fighter around the ring
and blocking. To block in any fight style simply click and hold
in the L Thumb.
The R Thumb though has alot of uses.
Push the R Thumb toward the ropes to climb in or out of the ring.
When in a corner push the R Thumb diagonally toward the corner
you're standing near to climb the turnbuckles.
When you're opponent is dizzy and standing, push the R Thumb toward
him to turn him around.
When your opponent is grounded and you're standing at either their
feet or head, push the R Thumb away from your opponent
to drag them across the ring.
To pick up a downed opponent stand at their head and press towards
them with the R Thumb to pick them up facing you.
Stand at their legs and push the R Thumb toward them to pick them up
facing away from you.
===============================================================================
STRIKING : All strikes in TWR come from 3 buttons. X, A, B.
X - Weak A - medium and B - strong.
===============================================================================
When standing a distance away from your opponent you have 3 basic
attacks using the XAB buttons.
But when the action gets close each button has 3 different attacks
that correspond with the L Thumb being used.
X Button - Weak Attack
X Button + Up/Down - Weak Attack 2
X Button + Left/Right - Weak Attack 3
A Button - Medium Attack
A Button + Up/Down - Medium Attack 2
A Button + Left/Right - Medium Attack 3
B Button - Strong Attack
B Button + Up/Down - Strong Attack 2
B Button + Left/Right - Strong Attack 3
There are 3 running strikes or grapples that can be used.
Run (Y Button) + X
Run (Y Button) + A
Run (Y Button) + B
When an opponent is grounded you can do a ground strike using any
of the three attack buttons.
The same applies when running toward a downed opponent.
To do a move from inside the ring to the outside, position yourself
hard against the ropes facing your opponent outside and press the
B Button. This will do moves such as Planchas/Suicide Dives.
When standing on the ring apron outside the ropes press B to do an
attack off the apron. ie. Asai Moonsault.
To perform a running move to the outside hold the B Button when running
towards the ropes. The easiest way to get this to work is to bounce off
the opposite side ropes and hold B as soon as you make contact with the
ropes.
When an opponent is in the corner pushing the B Button will start
an automatic corner combo.
Moves can be done from the top rope by climbing the top turnbuckle
using the R Thumb. The 3 attack buttons apply here again and attacks
range from splashes to dropkicks.
NOTE : If the opponent is positioned perfectly, moves such as the
Shooting Star Press and 450 Splash will add an automatic pin after
you have landed the move. Try the different splashes for yourself.
===============================================================================
GRAPPLING : Grappling consists of using the R Trigger to grapple and
then one of the attack buttons to perfomr the move.
===============================================================================
The first thing you notice when you grapple is the coloured bar at the
bottom of the screen. The moving bar represents you and what grapple
you want to make. It is split into sections being that the Blue bar
is your weak attack range, Green Bar is your medium attack range and
the Red Bar is your strong attack range.
Pushing the corresponding coloured button and stopping it inside
those coloured bars before your opponent does will result in a
successful grapple.
In the Pro-Wrestling styles, grappling consists of pushing the R trigger
to make a lunge at your opponent. A quick push of the R trigger will
cause your character to make a standing grapple attempt.
If you tap the L Thumb backwards and then hit the R Trigger your
character will move a considerable distance toward your opponent before
grappling. This is the best technique to use for grappling since it can
counter a fast moving opponent.
Once you are in a grapple with your opponent you're in a similar situation
to your striking except there is only 2 grapples per button. The first is
done with just a button press and the second is done by pushing
any direction and the button.
X Button - Weak Grapple
X Button + Direction - Weak Grapple 2
A Button - Medium Grapple
A Button + Direction - Medium Grapple 2
B Button - Strong Grapple
B Button + Direction - Strong Grapple 2
When in a grapple you can move to the back of your opponent by hitting
the R trigger instead of an attack button.
When in a behind grapple you have 3 different grapples.
X Button - Weak Grapple
A Button - Medium Grapple
B Button - Strong Grapple
Irish Whip your opponent into the ropes by hitting the Y Button.
With your opponent running at you, you have 3 standing counter grapples.
X Button
A Button
B Button
To whip you opponent to the corner hold the L Thumb in a diagonal direction
and push the Y Button.
NOTE : You can then run at an opponent in the corner and press B to perform
a corner attack.
Grapple your opponent in the corner by using the R Trigger and the use the
B Button to perform a corner grapple move.
To put your opponent in the tree of woe position grapple your opponent in
the corner and hit the Y button.
To throw your opponent to the outside hit the R trigger to grapple then
push the L Thumb toward the ropes. This should bedone with your back to
the ropes.
===============================================================================
GROUND MOVES : Ground moves consist of submissions and attacks in the
Pro-Wrestling style. In the MMA style, ground attacks also
include mounts, locks and guards.
===============================================================================
With a downed opponent, standing at their head allows for 2 ground attacks.
L Thumb toward opponent + X Button - Weak Ground Attack
L Thumb toward opponent + A Button - Strong Ground Attack
These buttons apply the same for an opponent who is
Lying on Back at Feet
Lying Face Down at Head
Lying Face Down at Feet
If you are playing as a shootfighter, a downed opponent is as good
as it gets.
By using the shootfighters SSA, using the R Trigger at the opponents
head or feet will allow a ground grapple.
Hopefully you know some MMA terminology.
Opponent Face Up - R Trigger at Head - Side Mount
Opponent Face Up - R Trigger at Feet - Guard
Opponent Face Down - R Trigger at Head - Front Chancery
Opponent Face Down - R Trigger at Feet - Back Mount
Also if you're using a shootfighter on the ground you can switch between
positions on the ground using the R Trigger. So you can go from Guard to
Full Mount to Side Mount to full Mount again just by using the R Trigger.
===============================================================================
SPECIFIC STYLE ACTION : Each style has its own specific action that is unique
to that style. I will try to list them all in as much
detail as possible.
