I know I will get e-mails about this, so let me clarify. I know that the Armor
Rating is different depending on your Light Armor, Medium Armor, and Heavy
Armor abilities, but when I recorded each of these, my Light, Medium, and Heavy
Armor skills were all at 50. I used 50 because it is in the middle. If you want
to know what the armor would be at if your skills were at 100, simply double
the Armor Rating. This means that when you start a new game, your skills won’t
be very high, so the Armor Rating may be lower, but you can use this FAQ to
compare them to the other armor you have to figure out whether or not it is
better than what you have. Also, if your Light Armor is really high, but your
Heavy Armor is really low, it will appear that all Light Armor in the game is
really good, while all Heavy Armor is really bad. This is not the case. If you
see a piece of Heavy Armor that you want, in order to make it better, simply
pay someone to train your Heavy Armor skill (Or just wear it a whole lot). The
locations of the trainers are listed on other FAQ’s, so I feel no need to put
them here.

The location of each piece of armor may be slightly different for you, as many
traders in the game have somewhat random inventory, but it is only slightly
random. Generally, if I say that someone has a specific piece of armor, they
may not always carry every single piece of armor from that set. They may be
missing a few pieces. Meaning, if you see that ‘so-and-so’ carries the Chitin
Tower Shield, but you don’t see it in his inventory, just leave and come back.

Also, I don’t have the location for every piece of armor because I added it as
an after thought. I realized that it would be helpful to know where to buy or
find them, so don’t complain that I didn’t complete this guide, because I
didn’t intend on putting the locations in at all.

IV. ARMOR LIST
===============================================================================

I have listed each and every un-enchanted piece of armor that I could find in
Morrowind and the Expansions. This is how they are set up:

1. Name of the armor: Self-explanatory. I tried to write each one exactly how
it appears in the game to help out with using ‘Find’ (Control – F).

2. Armor Rating: The defensive value of the armor. If it is Light Armor, this
value will increase as your Light Armor skill increases.

3. Condition: This represents how long the armor lasts until it breaks. Well,
it doesn’t break, but as the Condition goes down, the defense of the armor goes
down, and when it reaches 0, you can’t equip it again until you repair it.
Also, if the Condition is lower, you sell it for less.

4. Weight: In the menu above your picture there is a number, and that is how
much weight you can carry. You can carry more weight as your Strength goes up.

5. Value: How much the armor is worth. You buy it at this price and you usually
can’t sell something for the value price. You can buy things for less and sell
them for more if the person you are selling it to has a high disposition (how
much they like you).

6. Enchantment: The amount of enchantment each piece of armor can hold. The
higher the enchantment points, the more you can enchant it with. The values I
have listed are directly from the TESCS, so the values are ten times what they
appear as in the game. I will change the values to exactly what they appear as
in the game when I have more time. Thanks to watlemeron for pointing that out.

7. Location: Where you can find the armor. Sometimes the location is someone
you can buy it from, and sometimes, when you can’t buy the armor, it is where
you will be able to find it, or who wears it.

VII. MAKING YOUR OWN ARMOR

There are three different people in this game that will make armor for you. One
of them is in the Tribunal Expansion Pack, and the other two are in the
Bloodmoon Expansion Pack. They are listed below. If you talk to them about
‘Custom Armor’, they will give you a sheet of paper listing the amount of the
raw ingredient that you will need to make each individual piece of armor, and
how much each one will cost. I have written out the information in case you
lose the piece of paper, or want to know ahead of time what you will need.

should have a resistance of 40%. You can get Snow Wolf and Snow Bear Pelts by
finding and killing either a Snow Wolf or Snow Bear, respectively. They each
drop 2 pelts, or at least, most of them do. You can get 5 of each snow pelt by
becoming the Chieftain of Thirsk in Solstheim.

*ICE ARMOR*

Aenar (or Carnius) makes the Ice Armor found in Solstheim. This is the only way
to get Ice Armor (except for the Shield). Stalhrim is what the Skaal use to
bury their dead in because it protects people from disturbing their corpses, or
something along those lines. You will need an Ancient Nordic Pickaxe in order
to extract some Stalhrim. You get the Pickaxe from Graring, during the East
Empire Mining Colony Missions. In order to make each piece of Stalhrim armor
(or weapon, but that’s a different topic), you only need one piece of Stalhrim
(two for Carnius). Stalhrim is rare, but there is more than enough to make each
piece of armor and each weapon. It doesn’t cost anything to make them, either,
which is very good.

VIII. DETERMINING ARMOR RATING
===============================================================================

To determine your Armor Rating:

Monica21 & Elric_Melnibone

BaseAR * ( ArmorSkill / 30 )

This will give you the armor rating for an individual piece of armor. Assume a
character has a Light Armor skill of 91 and wears only Light Armor, all pieces
with a base AR of 50.

50 * ( 91 / 30 ) = 151.67 AR for each piece. The game will round this down, and
the individual AR will appear as 151.

To determine your total AR, multiply each armor piece by its weighted factor,
and then total them. The factors (shown as Percent of Total Armor Rating) are
actually listed incorrectly in the manual. Following are the correct weight
factors:

Cuirass - 30%
Shield - 10%
Helm - 10%
Greaves - 10%
Boots - 10%
RPauldron - 10%
LPauldron - 10%
RGauntlet/Bracer - 5%
LGauntlet/Bracer - 5%

(I tested these factors on my own character. Wearing just the cuirass, her AR
should have been 60 with a factor of 0.40, but it's actually 45, the same as if
the factor was 0.30.)

For the cuirass, multiply (151 * 0.30). This equals 45. Repeat for each piece
of armor you have equipped, and then total the numbers. If your character does
not wear a helm or equip a shield, the total AR will be 121.

NOTE: These numbers do not take into account how your Unarmored skill factors
in for any unarmored body parts, and the numbers also assume fully repaired
armor.

To determine your Unarmored Armor Rating:

( UnarmoredSkill * 0.10 ) * ( UnarmoredSkill * 0.065 )

Assuming that your Unarmored skill is 100, this will yield a max AR of 65, with
no armored body parts.

Armor Damage

To determine how much damage is absorbed and how much damage is taken, use the
following formula:

( Damage / ( Damage + AR ) ) * Damage

Assuming that a 25 point blow is landed and using the above armor rating,
( 25 / ( 25 + 121 ) ) * 25 = 4.28 damage to your health.

This is my first FAQ. Wow, this took me longer than I expected, so I hope it is

Bethesda kicks ass. Morrowind is definitely one of my new favorite games. I
recommend it to anyone who likes open-ended RPG’s. The game play resembles a
MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), but it is not, so
don’t expect to be playing this online. There is so much to do in this game,
and before you know it, three weeks have passed, and you haven’t had any sleep.
