b. AUTHOR'S NOTE
Hello and thanks to everyone that reads my guide. This is my first guide/FAQ
that I have created so I'm sorry if it isn't to your liking or just plain
sucks. I hope this guide provides some needed help to fellow SW:KotOR players
as I put a lot of time and effort into it. If you have any questions,
information, or feedback for me, you can email me at

< II. Lightsaber Crystals >
\===========================/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. TYPES
Essentially, there are two types of lightsaber crystals in this game.
i. Color - Every lightsaber in the game is required to have one, and only
one, of these crystals. These crystals dictate (you guessed it) the color of a
lightsaber's beam. There are five colors available in the game: blue, yellow,
green, red, and violet. The color of the lightsaber does not enhance the blade
in any way nor does it dictate your side of the force (e.g. red can be used by
the light side, not just the dark side).
ii. Enhancing - The other crystals in the game are used to focus and modify
the blade to produce different effects and enhancements to the lightsaber.
Some crystals upgrade the attack, damage, and critical hits of a lightsaber,
while others allow the lightsaber to more damage to droids or dark side forces
and even enhance blaster reflection. There are two slots for enhancing
crystals but only one of a crystal may be used in a Lightsaber.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b. USAGE
All lightsabers, including double-bladed and short ones, have three slots for
crystals to be input at a workbench. To input crystals into you lightsaber, go
to any workbench (one can be found inside the Ebon Hawk) and select the
lightsaber option. Choose which lightsaber you wish to modify. You will see
the three slots for crystals. The middle is for a color crystal while the
outer two are open for enhancing crystals. Simply select a slot and select the
desired crystal for that slot. Repeat with any of the other slots and then
select the assemble option at the bottom of the screen. Your lightsaber should
now have the effects of the crystals put into it.

Crystal. An artifact of true light side power, only those Jedi who are pure in
spirit can wield a lightsaber equipped with the gleaming gem. When the great
Jedi Master Ood Bnar initiated his life-cycle change after a thousand years of
serving the Order, he bequeathed the Solari Crystal to his most promising

a. BLACK CRYSTALS
There has been controversy among the GameFAQs boards of the existence of a
black crystal or lightsaber. Any rumors of such things are 100% false and
should not be taken seriously. Playing the game a certain number of times,
getting an exact number of experience points, or any other tricks people may
suggest do not work. There are zero black lightsaber crystals in the game and
there is no proven way to achieve a black lightsaber. The only presently
available colors in the game are blue, yellow, green, red, and violet, though
more may become available through Xbox Live updates.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b. DARTH BANDON'S LIGHTSABER
i. Crystal Effects
Mike Liu brought to my attention that, under certain circumstances, Darth
Bandon would leave his lightsaber in his remains, which treats nearly all
enhancing crystals differently. This lightsaber shows up as an ordinary red
double-bladed lightsaber but is separate from the rest of the other red
double-bladed lightsabers in your inventory and on the Workbench screen. It
can only be obtained by fighting Bandon on Manaan after leaving the underwater
kolto factory (Manaan must be the third planet you obtain a Star Map on AFTER
Dantooine, so the fourth planet you obtain a Star Map on essentially).
The crystals are either unaffected, or altered for the better and/or worse.
This is the list of effects on the enhancing crystals when input into Darth
Bandon's lightsaber. Note: If the red crystal is removed from the lightsaber,
it reverts to a regular double-bladed lightsaber.
UNNAFFECTED
Rubat - Damage +1, Attack +1
WORSE EFFECTS
Sigil - Damage - Energy +1-6 only
Nextor - 2x Critical Threat Range only
Opila - +2-6dmg on critical hit only
Jenruax - Blaster Deflection +5 only
BETTER/WORSE EFFECTS
Damind - Damage +2, Attack +2
Krayt Dragon Pearl - Attack +4 only
Luxum - Attack +3 vs. droids only
Firkrann - Attack +4 vs. droids only
Solari - Damage +3, +1-6 Physical Damage vs. Dark Side, Attack +5
Limitation: Can only be used by a Light Jedi
Upari - Damage +5, Attack +5
BETTER EFFECTS
Bondar - On Hit - Stun 100% for 6 seconds, Save - DC10 to negate stun
Eralam - Damage +3, Attack +3
Sapith - Damage +4, Attack +4
ii. Crystal Combinations
Since Darth Bandon's lightsaber alters the effects of almost all enhancing
crystals, I thought I'd add some effective crystal combinations should you
choose to use it.
DAMAGE & ATTACK POWER
Crystals Used: Sapith, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +9
Attack +9
Benefits: This lightsaber combo provides guaranteed +9 damage to your
lightsaber, making it a powerful force against any opponent. The unbelievable
+9 to attack will also help guarantee hits on your opponent, designating this
as one of the most formidable double-bladed lightsabers.
LIGHT SIDE
Crystals Used: Solari, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +8, +1-6 Physical Damage vs. Dark Side
Attack +10
Limitation: Can only be used by a Light Jedi
Benefits: This is similar to the normal Light Side crystal combination but
with the added benefits of a guaranteed +8 to damage and an amazing +10 to
attack. The damage versus Dark Side opponents is only slightly reduced.
STUN SABER
Crystals Used: Bondar, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +5
Attack +5
On Hit - Stun 100% for 6 seconds
Save - DC10 to negate stun
Benefits: Bondar comes with a sweet 100% chance of stun as opposed to the
measly 25% under normal circumstances. The DC10 is still low however, and this
lightsaber may not benefit you later in the game.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
c. NEW COLOR CRYSTALS (PC ONLY) thanks to sarnacke
The PC version of the game includes an outpost at Yavin IV where there are some
Trandoshan gangsters pressuring a Rodian merchant. If you fight and defeat them,
the merchant Suvam Tan will show you his top-of-the-line stock, in which are two
new color crystals, "Heart of the Guardian" and "Mantle of the Force," that are
specific to the PC version. These crystals have certain effects on the enhancing
crystals that are placed in the same lightsaber, but they remain color crystals.
The Heart of the Guardian gives the lightsaber a bright orange color while the
Mantle of the Force causes the lightsaber beam to emit a turquoise light. The
following lists the descriptions of the crystals and the effects they have on
enhancing crystals.
i. Heart of the Guardian
Blade Color: Orange
Description: Though its origins have been lost, the legendary artifact known as
the Heart of the Guardian was rumored to have been instrumental in the founding
of the guardian order of Jedi. Nothing further is mentioned in any Jedi archive,
but both Sith and Jedi whisper their own legends. According to the Jedi, the
Heart will appear in a time of greatest turmoil and deliver the galaxy into
salvation. The Sith, however, believe it to be an object of their heritage,
which will bring the galaxy under their dominion.
The Heart of the Guardian appears to be a magnificently shaped lightsaber
crystal of unknown composition. Analysis by Suvam Tan has yielded inconclusive
results, not being able to identify what mineral it's made of. Suvam has even
begun to wonder if it is a normal crystal at all, for at times it almost seems
as if it were alive.
All known lightsaber crystals seem to have a strange resonance with the Heart of
the Guardian, their properties being altered or enhanced when in close proximity
to it. Additionally, energy focused through the Heart results in a beam of
unique clarity and color.
EFFECTS ON ENHANCING CRYSTALS
Bondar - On Hit - Stun 25% for 6 seconds, Save - DC14 to negate stun
Rubat - Damage +2, Attack +2
Sigil - Damage - Energy +1-8, Attack +2
Damind - Damage +2, Attack +3
Nextor - Attack +1 (no Critical Threat Range multiplier)
Opila - Damage +3, Attack +2, +2-12dmg on critical hit
Krayt Dragon Pearl - Damage +1-8, Attack +3
Jenruax - Damage +2, Blaster Deflection +7
Luxum - Damage +2-12 vs. Droid, Attack +3
Eralam - uncertain
Phond - Damage - Physical +1-10
Firkrann - Damage +3-18 vs. Droids, Attack +3
Solari - Damage +1-10, Attack +2, Blaster Deflection +4
Sapith - Damage +4, Attack +3
Upari - Damage +2-12, Attack +4
ii. Mantle of the Force
Blade Color: Turquoise
Description: The Mantle of the Force is an item assembled by Suvam Tan from
pieces found in the ruins of Exar Kun's temples on the fourth moon orbiting
Yavin. It appears to be the remains of an even older artifact of unknown origin.
It is not known if it was used by Exar kun, or just uncovered when his temples
were destroyed. Nor is it known what the original properties of the item were,
but given the current abilities, in its original state it must have been
fearsome indeed.
The Mantle is a crystalline lattice, resembling a lightsaber crystal in many
ways, but having the additional property of being able to radically alter the
flow of energy that passes through it. When combined with other crystals, the
Mantle warps their properties, often enhancing them to incredible levels.
Additionally, the Mantle seems to almost act as a focusing tool for Force-
sensitive individuals, leading to the idea that the original artifact may once
have been a powerful tool of the Sith, or perhaps something they took with them
when the dark Jedi originally split from the Order.
EFFECTS ON ENHANCING CRYSTALS
Bondar - On Hit - Paralyze 25% for 6 seconds, Save - DC14 to negate stun
Rubat - Regeneration Force Points +3
Sigil - Damage - Energy +1-8, Attack +2

< VI. More Specific Locations >
\===============================/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. TARIS
i. Brejik's remains - After winning the swoop bike races, you are forced to
kill Brejik to save Bastila, though she frees herself and helps out. After you
kill Brejik, search his remains for Bastila's yellow double-bladed lightsaber.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b. DANTOOINE
i. Crystal Cave - This cave is located at the southeast end of the Sandral
Fields on Dantooine. To get there, head out to the Courtyard and continue to
go south through the Matale Fields and the Grove to the Sandral Fields. Go to
the southeast corner of the area and enter the cave. There are crystals in the
crystal formations and in some eggs, which must be Bashed. To Bash something
that is targeted, press up or down on the d-pad or control stick. The option
to Bash will now appear where it once said Use on your display. Press A to
Bash the selected object. This also works on some locked things.
ii. Sheruk's remains - Sheruk is the leader of the Mandalorians on Dantooine.
He is found in the Grove area but all other Mandalorians on Dantooine must be
killed before he appears at the same place another group was that you
previously killed. Kill him and you will find a red and blue lightsaber in his
remains, which can be taken for their crystals.
iii. Juhani's remains - You encounter Juhani, a Dark Jedi, during the main
quest in the Grove area. After fighting her, you can turn her to the light or
kill her. If you kill her, search her remains for a red lightsaber.
iv. Nemo's remains - You encounter Nemo's remains in the ruins on Dantooine in
the room with four doors and an ancient droid.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
c. KASHYYYK
I. Dark Jedi remains - From your ship continue on the path and enter The Great
Walkway. You will encounter three Dark Jedi soon after, which you must kill.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
d. TATOOINE
i. Dark Jedi remains - Continue from you ship to Anchorhead. Across from the
Swoop Bike Registration are three Dark Jedi waiting to attack you, as in
Kashyyyk.
ii. Krayt Dragon's Lair - You must kill the krayt dragon as a part of the main
quest, earning you a krayt dragon pearl. Search the rubble in the cave for
more crystals.
iii. Komad Fortuna's remains - You assist Komad in killing the dragon and
gives you a krayt dragon pearl for helping, but you can anger him by asking
for more of a reward and threaten to kill him.
iv. Kudos - Kudos is a Pazaak player on Tatooine. After beating him ten times
at Pazaak, he gives you a Sigil Crystal as a reward.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e. MANAAN
i. Dark Jedi remains - As part of the main quest, you must infiltrate the Sith
base on Manaan. Throughout the base, you encounter some Dark Jedi that you
must battle. Some of them have crystals and lightsabers with crystals in their
remains.
ii. Dark Jedi Master remains - A quest for a Selkath named Shaelas sends you
to find out about the disappearance of the Selkath youth and his daughter. You
must return to the Sith base where they are being held. Go to the upper left
area of the base to see a Selkath open a door to an area that was previously
locked. A door to a training room is in this area. The Dark Jedi Master is in
there.
iii. Jedi remains - The main quest has you take a submersible down to an
underwater facility. Somewhere in the facility are the remains of a fallen
Jedi with a Sigil Crystal.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
f. KORRIBAN
i. Sith Apprentice's remains - To fight this apprentice, you must talk to
Yuthura about entering the Sith Academy. Tell her you wish to become a Sith
but fail in your persuasion/lie to make her have doubts about you. She will
require you to get a medallion from another Sith to join the academy. Go to
the front desk near the entrance to Dreshdae and you will encounter three Sith
who attack you. One of them has a Bondar Crystal as well as a medallion.
ii. Sith Interrogator's remains - In the Sith Academy on Korriban, there is a
room where a prisoner is being interrogated on the whereabouts of his hidden
weapon cache. If you anger the Sith Interrogator there, or find out where the
weapon cache is and not let the Interrogator take credit for it, you can fight
him.
iii. Thalia May's remains - Just outside the Sith Academy, in the Valley of
the Dark Lords there is an entrance to the Shyrack Caves along the windy
downward path. In the cave are Thalia May and four other renegade students.
Should you choose to kill them, search her remains for a Jenruax Crystal.
iv. Sarcophagus of Marko Ragnos - The sarcophagus is located in the Tomb of
Marko Ragnos. It is the first tomb on the left in the Valley of the Dark
Lords. Fight all the droids in the tomb and the sarcophagus is at the top.
v. Jorak Uln's remains - In the Tomb of Tulak Hord, the second tomb on the
right in the Valley of the Dark Lords, you get drugged by Jorak Uln, a
sadistic Sith, who makes you answer questions to keep yourself alive or Mekel
alive. Answer all of his questions incorrectly (as a Jedi would), or refuse to
answer and he will punish you, but you will not die. He will be angry and
attack you and Mekel.
vi. Mekel's remains - If you answer all of Jorak Uln's questions correctly (as
a Sith would), he will kill Mekel instead of punishing you. If you used the
above method and killed Jorak Uln, you can also kill Mekel afterwards.
vii. Clay Urn - In the Tomb of Tulak Hord there are three clay urns behind
locked, but bashable, doors. Each of them contains a crystal.
viii. Skeletal Human remains - After gaining enough prestige, Uthar Wynn, head
of the Sith Academy, brings you to the Tomb of Naga Sadow. In the tomb, head
left at the fork to enter the room with a puzzle. This room contains skeletal
human remains. Solve the puzzle and head back out into the main room. Keep
going forward (right at the fork from the entrance) down this path to fight
two terentatek. In this room there is another skeletal human remains. Both
contain crystals.
ix. Kel Algowinn's remains - At the end of the final test in the Tomb of
Naga Sadow, you will end up killing both Master Uthar and his apprentice
Yuthara. The students at the academy all attack you because Uthar never came
back. Kel Algowinn is one of the students who attack you.
x. Lashowe's remains - Lashowe is one of the Sith students you are competing
against. You can find her in her room in the academy and goad her into a
fight.
xi. Dak Vesser's remains - Dak is an archaeologist in the Valley of the Dark
Lords. To get him to fight you, talk to him with Juhani in your party. He will
leave for the cantina because he knows Juhani isn't evil. Take Juhani out of
your party and talk to him again in the cantina on Korriban. It is there that
you can goad him into a fight and find the Eralam Crystal on his corpse.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
g. UNKOWN WORLD
i. Strong Box - The Strong Box is located on the first floor of the interior
of the Ancient Temple. It is in a room with two prototype battle droids with
red shields.
ii. Sith Master's remains - The Sith Master can be found on the first floor of
the Ancient Temple in a room in the northwestern area. He is in the only room
linking to the Armory.
iii. Rune Covered Pillars - There are two Rune Covered Pillars in the Ancient
Temple. One is in a room in the northeastern area of the first floor. The
second is a floor lower in the Temple Catacombs. Take a left at the fork you
see and go through the door. It should be in this room. Keep in mind both
pillars are guarded by mines.

< VII. Crystal Combinations >
\=============================/
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By request, here are some effective crystal combinations for lightsabers that
may benefit you throughout the game:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a. POWER
Crystals Used: Sigil, Upari
Upgrade(s): Damage +2-14
Attack +4
Benefits: This combination is good for straight up power against any force. It
makes a double-bladed lightsaber an effective killing machine with feats such
as power attack and flurry. This combination also serves as a powerful main-
hand lightsaber for heavy damage.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b. LIGHT SIDE thanks to Madogre
Crystals Used: Upari, Solari
Upgrade(s): Damage +4-11, +1-8 Physical Damage vs. Dark Side
Attack +6
Limitation: Can only be used by a Light Jedi
Benefits: All Light Side players should have this combination in one of their
lightsabers. This is an effective Dark Jedi killing combination that becomes
very useful throughout the Star Forge and against Darth Malak. It provides a
nice attack bonus as well to ensure hits.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
c. DROID DESTROYING thanks to MiniYoda
Crystals Used: Luxum, Firkrann
Upgrade(s): Damage +3-18 vs. droids
Attack +4
Benefits: These two crystals combined can make a lightsaber a highly effective
weapon against any droid. Though I would not recommend this for a double-
bladed lightsaber, as the bonuses do not affect every enemy, it does make a
great off-hand lightsaber for dual lightsabers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
d. CRITICAL HIT thanks to Telenu
Crystals Used: Nextor, Opila
Upgrade(s): Damage +3
Attack +1
Critical Threat Range x2
Massive Criticals +2-12dmg on critical hit
Benefits: This combination is a must have for all players who utilize the any
Critical Strike feat. With Master Critical Strike (4x critical threat range)
the chance for a critical hit is 50% (11-20 range, 10/20 chance) with a
single-bladed lightsaber and 25% with a double-bladed lightsaber (16-20 range,
5/20 chance). This all comes with a hefty bonus to critical damage.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
e. DEFENSIVE thanks to Telenu
Crystals Used: Bondar, Jenruax
Upgrade(s): Damage +2
On Hit - Stun 25% for 6 seconds
Save - DC10 to negate stun
Blaster Deflection +5
Benefits: This combination makes an effective off-hand lightsaber, more for
defense rather than power. It adds a nice bonus to blaster deflection and also
adds a chance to stun an enemy. A weaker scoundrel/consular might make good
use of this combination.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
f. GUARANTEED DAMAGE thanks to Jason Chrisjohn
Crystals Used: Krayt Dragon Pearl, Sapith
Upgrade(s): Damage +5
Attack +5
Benefits: Unlike the wide bonus damage range of the Power combination, this
crystal combination gives a guaranteed damage bonus to you lightsaber. The +5
attack bonus is also nice as well, providing an increased chance to hit. This
combination works well as a main lightsaber or an off-hand lightsaber paired
with the Power combination to make an unstoppable duo.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
g. COMBINATION CHART thanks to Dirk Mavrakos
With much help from Dirk Mavarkos, who compiled a spreadsheet with all crystal
combinations, I have created this crystal combination chart including all 110
different combinations for an easy way for players to speculate the advantages
of each.
KEY:
Dgn.Prl. = Krayt Dragon Pearl
crtcl dmg = critical damage
Blstr Dflctn = Blaster Deflection
