*INTRODUCTION*
**************

Spikeout: Battle Street is a brawler like back in the days of Double Dragon,
Battletoads, and Final Fight. It also supports 4-player co-op via XBox Live.
However, the game can be infuriatingly difficult, and since on FAQ currently
exists, I decided to put one together for people to be able to know what they
can unlock and how.

This game has 58 playable characters (13 regular and 45 bosses), but you only
begin with the 4 members of Neo Spike (Spike Jr, Min Hua, Jackal, and Fiona).
This guide will help you know how to unlock the remaining 54.

*****************
*TIPS AND TRICKS*
*****************

[--UNLOCKING CHARACTERS WITH XBOX LIVE--]

If you have XBox Live (or know somebody who has unlocked characters that you
can system link with), you can easily get a bunch of the characters without
much trouble.

Simply play through an entire stage (not just an area, the entire stage) with
somebody using a character that you don't have. If you both clear it, then
that character will be unlocked for you. Just remember to either complete the
game or get a Game Over, as simply quitting out of the game will cause it to
not save and you won't keep the character.

[--SPECIAL COMMANDS--]

Your characters can taunt and such via certain movements. Here are the four
things your character can say:

*Thanks: Rotate joystick clockwise 360 degrees and press Beat.
*Sorry: Rotate joystick counter-clockwise 360 degrees and press Beat.
*Help: Rotate joystick clockwise 360 degrees and press Beat & Charge or
Sweep if you have a button assigned to that.
*Taunt: Rotate joystick clockwise 360 degrees and press Beat & Charge & Jump
or Special if you have a button assigned to that. This one will
       consume a special item.

[--EASY DIFFICULTY IN STORY MODE--]

Simply pick a story stage, die, pick the stage again, and die again and the
game will ask if you would like to switch to easy difficulty. This seems to
remain in effect for Story Mode until the game is reset.

[--MISC. TIPS--]

*You are invincible when executing a special attack. There are 3 ways to do a
special attack. One is to just press Beat+Charge+Jump while you have a special
item and you will spin around attacking all those nearby. Another is to grab
an enemy and use the special to spin them around damaging those nearby and
severly damaging the enemy spun, and the final way is to grab another player
and spin them.

*When using a special, try to get someone up against a wall before activating
it so that when you spin, you'll catch them multiple times and juggle them for
massive damage.

*After grabbing an enemy, you can press Charge to go behind them, from there
you can either throw them, or jump into the air and press Beat to perform an
aerial throw. You are invincible for most throws after the throwing animation
has started.

*While dashing, you can do a Sweep (Beat+Charge) or Jump Attack (Jump+Charge)
to attack without losing momentum.

*To pick up a weapon, stand over it and press down on the left joystick and
Beat+Charge(Sweep). Press Beat+Charge(Sweep) again to throw the weapon.

*Remember to use the Shift button to Strafe. It's your best chance of dodging
most attacks.

*There are multiple paths in virtually all levels except Spiker's Camp during
Battle Street mode. Also, just because a gate isn't flashing doesn't mean
you cannot open it (such as the entrance to the basketball court in Diesel
Town from a certain direction--it won't flash from that way, but will still
open and allow you to fight King, one-on-one).

*UNLOCKABLE BOSS CHARACTERS*
****************************

[--UNLOCKING PROCEDURE--]

There are two ways to unlock these characters, one is using XBox Live as
noted in the Tips and Tricks section. The other is a bit more difficult.

To unlock a character without XBox Live, you must be on Normal or Hard
difficulty (but the other settings like Continue and Time Limit don't
matter), then you must defeat the boss without taking any damage from
the boss (the henchmen can still hit you and it won't matter) while
also getting a combo of 4 or greater on the boss. If you did it
correctly, when the boss dies, you will hear a tone.

Note that this can be in Story Mode or Battle Street Mode, and if
playing multiplayer, none of the players can be hit by the boss you
are trying to unlock.

Now remember to complete the game or get a game over, because if you simply
Quit out of the game, it won't save and you won't keep the character.

The easiest way to get a 4+ Combo on a boss is to grab a henchman when the
boss is near a wall and then use a special attack. If you did it right,
you'll spin around a lot and juggle the boss against the wall a couple of
times, easily getting 4+ Combos and dealing a lot of damage.

Alternatively, some characters have moves that will give them an easy 4-hit
combo. For Tenshin, just grab a boss from the front and mash Beat and you'll
get a 4-hit combo automatically. Then you can proceed to attack the boss in
whatever manner you wish to kill him quickly without getting hit.

cyberworm314 also suggest using Keiser (after you've unlocked him), because
his special is very good against other bosses.

Listed below are all the unlockable boss characters, divided by what stage
they can be found in. The gang the boss belongs to is listed next to their
name.

Thanks to cyberworm314 for provided the complete boss list, and dn3001
for provided all the gangs they belong to.

*FAQ*
*******

Q. I did what you said and got a 4-hit combo on that flamethrower guy in
Spiker's Camp and then beat him without taking damage, but he didn't unlock!
The same thing happened with the guy after him. What's going on!?

A. Those bosses are actually regular enemies (you'll encounter them again
later on in the game), that just got a boss title for this one level. In
Spiker's Camp, the only boss that can be unlocked is Pheonix (the last guy).
As far as I know, these two are the only 'fake' bosses, and everyone else
should be fair game.

--

Q. They reference events that happen 10 years ago. Is there a game for
whatever happened then?

A. They are referring to the original Spikeout, which was never on a home
console, only in arcades. There is also another game called Slashout, but
I'm pretty sure it's story is unrelated (though it does use the same combat
system), as it uses swords and magic instead of street gangs.

--

Q. I can't find King! Where is he?

A. He's either on the basket ball court in Diesel Town or the Food
Court in Astro Mall. But beware, most attacks barely phase him, leaving
you open for attack. He's known as Emporer here.

For providing the entire gang list for all bosses, which saved me even more
