Hello, thank you for choosing this secrets FAQ, I have put it together
in conjunction with other Shenmue fans so that we build up one big list
of all the secrets and things in Shenmue 2x. Have fun trying them out
and remember if you have secrets you have discovered and it's not
listed here, send me and email and tell me about it, I'll put it up and
give you full credit =P
Oh and some of you may notice that this FAQ is near enough exactly the
same as my other Dreamcast Shenmue 2 secrets FAQ, that's because the
game's a port so everything here will work still but obviously some
things have been cleaned up so they're appropiate for the XBox version.

ARCADE MACHINE LOCATIONS

Afterburner - You can only play Afterburner once its time to fight
the 3 fighters in Kowloon. Head to the Dimsum Qr and
find the Nihoa Tea house, in the back is an entrance to
the Tea Break Building, once in head straight
forward into the Phoenix Building. After burner is on
the 1st floor. Head through the holes in the walls to
find it on its pedestal
Darts - Darts can be found in pretty much any pub. It is also
found in the 1st floor of the Pine Arcade in the
Golden Qr of Wanchai
Excite QTE 2 - Excite QTE2 can be found at the 1st floor of the Pine
Arcade in the Golden Qr of Wanchai and in the Moon
Child Orphanage 8F in Kowloon
Hangon - Hangon can be found in room number 222 of the Yellow
Head Building in Kowloon
Neo Darts - Neo Darts can be found at the 1st floor of the Pine
Arcade in the Golden Qr of Wanchai
Outrun - Outrun can only be found at the 1st floor of the Pine
Arcade in the Golden Qr of Wanchai
QTE Title - QTE Title can be found on the 1st floor of the Pine
Arcade in the Golden Qr of Wanchai. It can also be
found in Kowloon at the back of the Moon Child
Orphanage 8F
Slot Machine - Slot machines can be found at the 2nd Floor of the Pine
Arcade in the Golden Qr. and also in the Golden Qr they
have there own slots house. And on the 1st floor of
the Dimsum building in Kowloon
Space Harrier - Space Harrier can only be found at the 1st floor of the
Pine Arcade in the Golden Qr of Wanchai

BAD ENDING

Just like in Shenmue 1, you can get a bad ending if you take too long
to complete the game. In the instruction booklet it says you have
until the summer, but the exact day is June 31st. If you WANT to see
the ending then your advised to waste days doing nothing. if you get to
the bit where you have to talk to Zhangyu the barber and press A on the
QTE, you will waste a day. Repeat this to proceed quickly

BLUE SKY BEER GARDEN CUTSCENE

While doing the Chawan Signs, go to the Blue Sky Beer Garden in
Fortune's Pier and try the sign there. This will trigger a very nice

COOL Z CUTSCENE

When you find Ren and his friends at Fortunes Pier after beating up
(or getting beat up by) Yuans thugs they will run away and you have to
chase one of them down. Cool Z heads off left ways and if you chase him
all the way down some alley you'll see a nice cutscene where Ryo
threatens to (and nearly does) break Cool Z's boom box.

DUCK RACE

To unlock the Duck Race you need to get the Bronze and Silver Medals.
To get a Bronze Medal you need to talk to 2 people, Izumi and Eileen.
IZUMI: Can be found in the Tomato Convenience Store in the Golden
Qr. Go into the shop and make conversation, she will talk
about her studies and befriend you.
EILEEN: Can be found at Pigeon Park on the Workers Pier, she is
to be found on the side of the fountain facing the ocean.
She will offer Ryo a sparing match, but Ryo will turn her
down.
Now that is out of the way, head to the Green Market Qr. Go to the Come
Over Guest house and face as if you have just walked out of the door.
Now look right, you will see an alley. Go down the alley and ignore
the first turning left. once past that turning you'll be forced to turn
right. now face right down the alley and look left. you will see a shop
with a window, and a man stacking boxes. Now to the right of that
window is a white opening. Head into the Vacant Lot and you notice a
table in the middle. On the table are three boxes of toys and the Bronze
Medal. They're yours for the taking. Now have your last look around that
Vacant Lot because once you leave the white opening will become
closed and you wont be able to re-enter.
To get a Silver Medal you will need to have picked up the Bronze
Medal. Collecting the Bronze Medal removes the barrier that stops you from
going up to the 3rd floor in the Pine Arcade, Golden Qr. So head up to the
3rd floor and you will be stopped by a man dressed in white (this man
is found in one of the cut scenes involving Ren) He will ask whether
you want to Participate or Watch. Select Participate and you will enter
the small room only to find Eileen waiting for you. You have to beat her
in a fight so that you can fight Izumi, the next fighter.
Now go back up to the 3rd Floor of Pine Arcade and select to
Participate. You will have to fight Izumi, not someone you think would
be a good fighter but infact she's one of the best in the game. She has
some spectacular moves and combos as well as a mid fight QTE prompt. The
QTE asks you to press X+B, Y+A. if she hits you with it you will have
taken a lot of damage and end up lying on the floor for a while. But if
you complete the QTE sequences you will reverse her throw and perform a
throw of your own. She can do the QTE move more than once in battle so
dont think after one go she wont use it again.
Anyway, once you have beaten her she will tell you to come by the
Tomato Convenience Store in Golden Qr and she will show you something
interesting. Head there and you'll notice when you stand in front of her
counter that you can press the X button, now from this point on you
can go to the DUCK RACES!

EASY MONEY

At the beginning of the game, after you lost your bag & your cash,
Continue until the point whereby Joy gets you a job in Fortune Pier.
Over there, after you got some cash, head to Warehouse 9 (gambling den)
& Save, then gamble all your cash on the choice that'd give you the
largest winning (doesn't matter if your lose because you already saved,
if you lose, just reset & load the game & repeat the gambling part), &
once you got $100, head on to Warehouse 10 (gambling den at the
basement of the eatery whereby you have to go down a tunnel) over
there do the same thing and save your game, then Keep Max betting on
"Chow"/Shun Chi in Mandarin (don't be put off if you don't win for
quite a number of times, simply reset, load game & repeat the process
until you win) because eventually you'll be able to Max bet $500 which
would give you a hefty $4000 when you win by betting on "Chow" &
Winning twice on "Chow" would guarantee you do not need to worry on
Cash for the whole of Shenmue 2 even if you go Capsule Spinning Crazy.
You can bet even more money when you find the gambling places in

EXTRA FREE BATTLES & QTEs

- After helping Guixhang from the land sharks, if you go see her again
A few days later she will let you practice a new move on another
land shark in a FREE battle
- When making the Chawan signs make one outside by the stools in the
White Dynasty Qr. You will enter a Command QTE with some thugs and a
kid
- After doing the last Chawan Sign and getting into the fight in the
market; on the next day once you head into town you will get a cut
scene with Joy where she says you should go back to stay at the Come
Over Guest House again. After that you can go back to Man Mo Bistro
and you will get into a QTE fight involving Fangmei and a

QTE fight with the Poison Brothers whom Joy saved you from back in

FANGMEI'S BIRTHDAY

Fangmei is the 14 year old girl who wakes you up each morning once you
start airing out the books in the Man Mo Temple library. Her birthday
is on the 3rd of March. I'll guide you step by step on unlocking the
extra cutscenes and getting Xun's Amulet as the reward.
As a quick tip, I reccomend getting to the Temple and starting work for
Xiuying as soon as possible. This way you have a few days leway and
will take the pressure off a bit.
Automatic events happen automaticly, so you have no choice but to see
these. Key events are vital, you cannot complete this birthday event
without fully completing them. Sub Events are optional, you don't need
those at all, but they are still cool and well worth your time.
AUTOMATIC EVENT
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
1. The first day you wake up in Xiuying's Room, you will be greated by
Fangmei. She tells you that Xiuying is expecting you at the temple.
Aslong as you work for Xiuying, you will see her first thing each
morning.
KEY EVENT
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
2. Fangmei has a small crush on Ryo at this point, it's your job to
make her love you. Yes you read that correctly. Fangmei does daily
chores around the temple, outside the temple and back in Xiuying's room
in the Da Yuan Apartments. When you walk near to her she will initiate
conversation with you, which she starts by saying "Hazuki-san..." She
will ask you questions sometimes where you need to select an answer, be
carefull what you say here and remember you need to make her feel
special. Don't say Xiuying is beutiful, say she is strong instead, but
do say that Fangmei is your friend when she asks about people in Hong
Kong etc. After the conversation is over, walk a short distance away
and then return for more talk. Eventually she will stop initiating
conversations, but that is ok, there can be about 4 questions from her
per day. You will need to keep trying on the following days untill she
calls you "Ryo" instead of "Hazuki-san".
SUB EVENT

3. When you are waiting in the Come Over Guest House and get the call
to go to Man Mo Park, you will enter a battle with 2 or 3 guys (depends
on if you took 1 guy out during the QTE) If you lose this fight, you
will wind up in Xiuying's room. In the morning, Fangmei will be there
to look after you. Losing the Man Mo Park battle automaticly makes her
call you "Ryo" regardless of anything you said to her beforehand.
SUB EVENT

4. Once you have discovered the Wulinshu, head for Pigeon Park and find
Eileen Edelweiss. she is next to the fountain, on the side facing the
water, wearing a black tracksuit. She will initiate conversation with
you and talk about Martial Arts. Eileen is friends with Fangmei as you
will find out later on, and talking to her will dramaticly change
Fanmgei's daily schedule. She will start to wonder about, and spend
less time at the temple making it more difficult for you to make her
like you. I reccomend leaving this event until Fangmei calls you "Ryo"
SUB EVENT

5. Between 12pm and 1pm, after you have talked to Eileen and before
March 3rd, head to the Man Mo Bistro in the Wise Mens Quarter. You will
find Fangmei here every day at this time having lunch with Eileen.
You'll learn that they are friends and Fangmei is helping Eileen with
her Chinese.
KEY EVENT
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
6. Between 3pm and 7pm and from February 27th till March 2nd only you
can find Fangmei outside the Complete Clothier shop located in the
Lucky Charm Quarter. If you have trouble finding it, look at the maps
located sporadically about the quarter and it's written on there. If
you got her to call you by your first name you will see a cutscene of
Fangmei admiring a brooch on one of the dresses in the window. Once she
leaves the area, head inside the store and chat with the guy behind the
counter. He will tell you it means alot to him because he made the
brooch himself, but eventually will cave in and ask you for HK$150 for
it. You must buy this to give to Fangmei on her birthday, March 3rd.
KEY EVENT

7. Once you have purchased the brooch from the Complete Clothier store,
on March 3rd head to the Da Yuan Apartments and enter Xuiying's room.
This is the scene you have been working torwards as Ryo gives the
present to young Fangmei. Listen out for the words "I love you" as she
says them pretty quietly.
SUB EVENT

8. Once Guixiang has taught you the Chawan sign and up until you get
the note from Yuanda Zhu's associate head to the Blue Sky Beer Garden
and try the Chawan sign on the table to see none other than Fangmei
and Eileen. They help you out and direct you to the Dou Jiang Diner.

9. After you meet with Joy in the Lucky Charm Quarter and when blocked
passage to the Wise Mens quarter has been removed, go to the Man Mo
Bistro to see the owner under attack by 2 thugs. Fangmei is also in
danger so our hero Ryo steps in and teaches them a lesson. Remember
guys, Don't ever forget that pain! Next time it'll be worse.

10. Again after you meet with Joy in the Lucky Charm Quarter head to
Man Mo Temple and torwards the back where you used to work and you'll
find one of the disciples trying to take a photo of Fangmei at work.
After Fangmei is alerted she request some pictures be taken of her and
Ryo. You also get to choose the one you wish to keep, cool huh?
KEY EVENT

11. Once it's time to leave Hong Kong and say your goodbye's, head to
Xiuying's room for the final time and you'll encounter Fangmei. She
gives you her most treasured item, Xun's Amulet which she had when she
first came to the orphanage. You will also get a photo of Xiuying and
the others to keep. If you fail to see this event, Fangmei will say her
goodbye's after the final talk with Xiuying, but you will only get the
photo and no amulet. Congratulations, enjoy the rest of the game :)

Whilst trying to find Ren and raise money to see him, head to the yard
of Man Mo Temple and you will see an event of Fangmei and the guy who
works with you while airing out books. You will get to choose 1 of 2
photos to keep after the event.

GHUI ZHANG CONVERSATION

On disc 3, you have to listen to the tape to find clues to Yuanda Zhu's
Whereabouts. Well, if you fast-forward the tape to the 651 counter on
the tape machine, you'll hear a conversation between Gui Zhang (The very
Gui Zhang from Warehouse No. 8 in Shenmue 1) and Joy. It's very
Interesting. It seems you must fast forward to the 651 counter because
Before it is the clue to where Yuanda Zhu is.

GOOD PLACES TO TRAIN

WANCHAI:
Jianming - Jianming is a the Thai chi expert in Lotus Park, South
Carmain Qr. this is one of the only places you can
train near the beginning of the game. He evades all of
your attacks (although I have actually hit him once)
and attacks back very little. So spar with him and
concentrate on one move to get it mastered. Once you
have fought him though, you will need to proceed in the
game slightly for him to accept another challenge, or
you can get a job and after the job you will be able to
fight him again. OR acording to Jotaro you can enter
Yan Tin apartments nearby and then come back out and
retry at sparing with Jianming
Wild Man - Once you can get access to Beverly Hills Worth, you can
find this wild man in the centre of the map. If you win
you will get $10 then win again and you'll get $20 all
the way up to $50. You have 5 hits to perform on
him and try and knock him down. Now here's the trick,
participate in this event, but DONT hit him at all.
Stand back and perform the moves you want to master and
you will be given 3 minutes. Its a lot better here than
fighting Jianming and you can still finish him off and
get some money too!

HIDDEN TOYS

Blue Forklift - When you start the game go into the Freestay Lodge
and at the very back in front of a shelf is a bed. You have to look in
close to see it as it's quite small.
Red Forklift - When you start the game go into the Freestay Lodge and
at the very back of the room is a small table, which has a pawn shop
flier on it. Check the drawer in that table to find the Red Forklift
Winning Can - The winning can isn't a collectable but when you pick it
up it turns into a random toy. There is a winning can in the Freestay
Lodge on the shelf at the back of the room
if you go to the thousand white building in kowloon on the 12F at room
1207 you find a room called the dural room.here you can play lucky hit
and one of the prizes is a gold dural, but its pretty hard to win.

IZUMI'S SUPER MOVE

When fighting Izumi, if you lose by failing the Freeze QTE, she will
Finish you off by using a truly impressive move: the background will
fade to black and in a swirl of cherry blossoms, Izumi will call out
"Viva Sakura Festival!" and as the Japanese signs come up on the
screen, she will do what looks like a truly painful finishing move on

JOYS LOCATION

Joy moves about alot and you may wish to find her just for a chat or
maybe if you want to take some snaps of here for your collection. The
thing to look out for is her bike; where ever the bike is, Joy will be
in the immediate area.
~HONG KONG~
Fortunes Pier:
Her bike will be located on the right handside as you enter the pier.
From the entrance, walk forward and past the market stall and you'll
see it near a wall. If it is there, Joy will be found looking out to
sea about halfway up the long side of the pier.
Pine Game Arcade:
In the Golden Qr. her bike will be found up against a wall to the right
of the arcade entrance. If it is there, she will be found inside the
arcade sitting down on the first floor.
~KOWLOON~
Cafe Anna:
Her bike can be found parked near Cafe Anna. Joy is sitting at one of
the tables there
Everyone's Resturuant:
By the Lucky Hit Museum in the resturaunt
Ren's Hideout:
The bike is nowhere to be found when Joy is in Ren's Hideout

When you finish working on the second day of the game, Joy takes you to
Fortune's Pier to move crates, Run back to the Pidgeon Park area.
You know those square stone things that holds those plants? Wong was
walking on one of them before the big chase QTE, stay to the left side
of the plants (in other words, the opposite side of where the merchant
wagons are).
Keep running/walking up the left side of the plant holders and you'll
run into the guy that took your photo in a cut-scence, and when it's

LEARNING MOVES

Wise Men's Kung Fu - In the Wise Men's Qr. in Wanchai there is a shop
that sells Move Scrolls called 'Wise Men's Kung Fu' you can find the
following Moves there:
Jianming - This old man is found at Lotus Park in the South Carmain Qr
He teaches you a move, the move is:
IRON PALM - X+A
Guixhang - Guixhang teaches you a move after you have helped her from
the land sharks, you have to perform it on one of the land sharks
during a fight to learn it:
Hind Blow - Y+B
Zhoushan - After you have helped Guixhang from the land sharks walk
past the Monk training temple and the guard will tell you that Zhoushan
wants to see you. Head into the temple and he will tell you a move:
WILD THROW - B + Directional button
Hanhui - Every time you complete a days work at Man Mo temple Hanhui
will give you a Move Scroll. he gives you 4 scrolls and teaches you 1
move in total which are:
Delin - Although not technically a Move Scroll, he still teaches you a
move. Work for him when you first have to find Ren and save up $500.
you can learn it after you have paid the $500 as well, just don't go
too far with the story otherwise he might not teach you it. The
move is:
BRAWLING UPPERCUT - <- <- X
Xiuying - When you are about to leave to Kowloon she teaches you a move
which is:
COUNTER ELBOW ASSAULT - <- X+A
Lucky Hit Stand - When you first get to Kowloon you will be on Dragon
St. in this area is a Lucky Hit Stand called Challenge, which is fairly
hard to find, keep to the right and you'll find a path leading around
past some derelict house and up the stairs. What you have to do is bet
$5 to play the first game then win that and play the 2nd game, then
win that and play the final 3rd game. If at any point you hit an X you
will have to start again from game 1. Once you have won the first Move
Scroll you can play again for another one they are in order:

MONKEY ROLL DROP
Blind Musician - He teaches you a move, which is:
PREDICTIVE EXPLOSION - B
Thousand White Building - on the first floor of the thousand white
building you can purchase the following Move Scrolls:

BRONZE MEDAL:
To get a Bronze Medal talk to Izumi and Eileen:
IZUMI: Can be found in the Tomato Convenience Store in the Golden
Qr. Go into the shop and make conversation, she will talk
about her studies and befriend you.
EILEEN: Can be found at Pigeon Park on the Workers Pier, she is
to be found on the side of the fountain facing the ocean.
She will offer Ryo a sparing match, but Ryo will turn her
down.
Now head to the Green Market Qr. Now go to the Come Over Guest house
and face as if you have just walked out of the door. Now look right,
you will see an alley. Go down the alley and ignore the first turning
left. Once past that turning you'll be forced to turn right. Now face
right down the alley and look left. You will see a shop with a
window, and a man stacking boxes. Now to the right of that
window is a white opening. Head into the Vacant Lot and you notice a
table in the middle. On the table are three boxes of toys and the
Bronze Medal. They're yours for the taking. Now have your last look
around that Vacant Lot because once you leave the white opening will
become closed and you wont be able to re-enter.
OR alternatively you can go to the Lai Lai Eatery after you have
chased Wong through there, and talk to the young waitress. Offer her
some money as compensation for the trouble you have caused and she will

OR In the Lucky Charm Qr, there is a man sitting in an intersection
who you can play dice. Keep winning when playing against him,
and eventually he will give you the bronze medal as a memento.

SILVER MEDAL:
To get a Silver Medal you will need to have picked up the Bronze Medal.
Collecting the Bronze Medal removes the barrier that stops you from
going up to the 3rd floor in the Pine Arcade, Golden Qr. Now before you
head there you must talk to two people, Izumi and Eileen.
IZUMI: Can be found in the Tomato Convenience Store in the Golden
Qr. Go into the shop and make conversation, she will talk
about her studies and befriend you.
EILEEN: Can be found at Pigeon Park on the Workers Pier, she is
to be found on the side of the fountain facing the ocean.
She will offer Ryo a sparing match, but Ryo will turn her
down.
After you've talked to both Eileen and Izumi head to the 3rd floor at
the Pine Arcade in the Golden Qr. you will be stopped by a man dressed
in white (this man is found in one of the cut scenes involving Ren) He
will ask whether you want to Participate or Watch. Select Participate
and you will enter the small room only to find Eileen waiting for you.
You have to beat her in a fight so that you can fight Izumi, the next
fighter. Beat Izumi and you will get the Silver Medal.
GOLD MEDAL:
To get the Gold Medal you will need the Bronze and Silver Medals
already. If you have the Silver Medal then you must have beaten Eileen
at the Arcade. Now go back up to the 3rd Floor of Pine Arcade
and select to Participate.
You will have to fight Izumi, not someone you think would be a good
fighter but infact she's one of the best in the game. She has some
spectacular moves and combos as well as a mid fight QTE prompt. The QTE
asks you to press X+B, Y+A. if she hits you with it you will have taken
a lot of damage and end up lying on the floor for a while. But if you
complete the QTE sequences you will reverse her throw and perform a
throw of your own. She can do the QTE move more than once in battle so
don't think after one go she wont use it again.
Anyway, once you have beaten her she will tell you to come by the
Tomato Convenience Store in Golden Qr and she will show you something
interesting. Head there and you'll notice when you stand in front of her
counter that you can press the X button, now from this point on you
can go to the DUCK RACES! A form of Gambling. Once you have seen it and
had enough, you might like to get your own duck :)
To get your own duck you need to go to the Tree in the back Yard
(where you stack books) of Man Mo Temple in Scarlet Hills. Now press
X in front of the tree and you can practice catching leaves. What you
need to do is catch more than 1 leaf in a single catch about 3 times!
so in 3 goes you should of caught 6 leaves. You don't have to do it
consecutively though, take your time. Now when you have done it, you
will hear the duck noise and a White Feather will drop with the leaves.
Catch it (don't worry if you miss, just repeat the process) and you will
get your own duck. But note that you will not be able to use the tree
to catch leaves once you have started looking for Ren on disc 2. its
best to try this one as early as possible.
Take your Duck to the Tomato convenience Store and enter the
DUCK RACE. Now you have to win the race with it and you will be
rewarded with the Gold Medal. The race is very hard sometimes but keep
trying and you'll get there.

REN THE BELL RINGER

It and he will get angry and ring it himself.

just exited the building and then look left, head down this road
torwards the street corner to trigger this event. When he asks, say yes
to help and then to get the sign striaght, press down 10 times.
NOTE: This must be done any time before 6:59pm. The scene will not be
accesable after you have found the Yan Tin Apartments.
