1. Introduction
******************************************************************************
I am MysticWeirdo also known by my real name Warren Grieder.
Playboy: The Mansion is a simulation type game where you assume the role of
Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. The game has you development relationship with
various celebrities and beautiful women as you endeavor to build the Playboy
empire. Through the game you'll be publishing the magazine, throwing
parties, negotiating business relationships, and acquiring girlfriends, among
other things.
This game is available for the Xbox, PC, and PS2. I'm writing this guide
based on my experiences with the Xbox version but player using the other
platform may also find this guide helpful.
Joe Mucchiello, author of FAQs for Sims: Busting Out on GameCube and GBA, has
provide a fair amount of addition material for this guide. These
contributions are greatly appreciated.
NOTE: The PS2 version has three exclusive missions that I will be unable to
cover as I'm playing the Xbox version. I recommend PS2 player looking for
help turn to the faq by VampireHorde which covers the bonus missions.
I've been blocked by what I think is a glitch from obtaining what I think is
the final free form circulation objective of 1 Million copies. The reward for
the objective would be appreciated if anyone is able to complete it.
Emil has suggested that I include this information about the patch for the PC
version: There is apparently a bug on the PC English version, where Hef's fame
cannot raise above 3/5 of a star (and some other issues like "squashed
breasts", and staff salary is not being paid). The solution is out now;
Playboy- The mansion Patch (from 1.0 to 1.01) (English).
If you bought the downloadable version from direct2drive the patch is
available here:
www.direct2drive.com/patches/index.aspx
If you purchased the US retail version, you get get the patch here:

To raise someone Entertainment, Professional Development, or Leisure drives,
you can get them to follow you to an item that has a bonus for that drive.
For example, entertainment can be raised by using a bar, professional
development can be raised by using a bookshelf, and leisure can be raised by
using a chair or sofa.
Joe Mucchiello writes "On the PS/2 hit L2 causes a halo to rise from everyone
in the room. It's color is the average of their mood/drive. So if it's green
all is good, red is bad and yellow is so-so." White on the Xbox does the

relationships (unless some decides to throw a fit).
If Hef is participating he'll occasionally get an opportunity to change the
category of the discussion:
Small Talk: Switch to Casual
Discussion: Switch to Professional
Flirtaceous Chat: switch to Romantic (need at least one woman in the group)
If two people are talking, Hef use the "Interrupt" them to converse or
introduce someone else.
------------------------

There are a few other inactions you'll see when interacting with people.

a corresponding "End Party" command.
If you're near a usually object you may see a special command to use it.
==========
3.9 Quirks
==========
Characters can have one or more quirks that effect their behavior.
Easy Going
----------
People with this quirk are less likely to have their mood affected when a
person rejects them or throws a fit when they are conversing.
Amorous
-------
These people's romantic drives meters deplete faster than normal. Expect them
to spontaneous start romantic conversation.
Fun Loving
----------
These people entertainment drive meters deplete faster than normal.
Faithful
--------
These people only allow themselves to be in one romantic relationship at a
time and will follow the object of their affection around.
Chaste
------
These people won't engage in sex. You may have difficulty requesting photo
shoots from them until you become more famous.
Jealous
-------
If these people are in a romantic relationship and they see their partner
engage in romantic activity with someone else, the romantic and casual
relationships with their partner will go negative.
Confrontational
---------------
These people are more likely to give rejections and throw fits during
conversation, thus damaging relationship.
Drinker
-------
These people like to drink, if they get drunk they can throw fits during
conversions damaging relationships.
Shy
---
Their relationship drives deplete at a slow rate, but they suffer a greater
effect when faced with rejecting or someone throwing a fit.
==============================
3.10 Physical and Mental Status
==============================
Each character has three physical or mental statistics: Intellect, charm,
and physique. This statistics can be increase through the liberal use of
profession development items. For example, mirrors increase charm,
bookshelves
increase intellect, and exercise equipment increase physique. When you can
afford it purchase profession development items to place in strategic
locations.
There's also a hidden fatigue status (Thanks to Joe Mucchiello for mentioning
this) . A character with ZZZ's above their head is tired and is about to
leave. Staff members will return after a while but party goers will need to
be invited back to another party, if you still need them and haven't made them
part of the Inner circle.
===================================
3.11 Hints and tips for Making Money
===================================
You need to publish the magazines to make money. Publish extra magazine
beyond what the missions call for, you'll need the extra cash.
Establish contacts during parties for potential interviews, essays, and
cover shoots.
Joe Mucchiello writes "Don't be afraid to fire and hire staff at a whim if
they match up with a potential celebrity better than your current
staffer."
Theres a counter point that needs to be made to Joe statement, as time goes
one your staff strengthens their likes resulting higher potential demographic
bonuses for their content. Once you can afford to do so expand and diversify
your staff pool to cover a wider range of likes. But get the 4 full star - 5
star employee before doing so. The lower famed employees content will lack
quality, so Joe's statement is applicable in this case.
Make sure the desire meters for all people involved with any particular
element of the magazine content have their desire meters close to full, in
the case of a interview, have the person being interview develop a strong
relationship with the journalize ahead of time. The same goes for
photographers and the models for covers/centerfolds. Select content
according to the current market (i.e. not all sports when the demand for
sports is low)
Avoid expanding to rapidly to avoid getting in debt.

4. Important Strategies and Avoiding Some Major Problems
******************************************************************************
========================
4.1 Staying out of debt.
========================
Avoid expanding to rapidly to begin with. Publish extra magazines during
mission to generate addition revenue. My observations suggest maxed ad
content and low cover price will earn larger profits that other settings.
Guests may reject your invitations to parties if your fame is too low. Try
to publish more quality magazines and hold successful parties to increase your
fame if you find this happening. Also try holding the party in other
location and with other attire.
Its a good idea to cycle your staff regularly to replace lower fame staff
with higher fame staff for better content. Be careful when hiring and firing
if you're low on money, you pay an employee full month salary up front when
they're hired. (There's a limit to how much you should cycle your staff,
see the "Increasing Likes" subsection)
Joe Mucchiello writes: "You should always pick your staff based on fame, then
appropriate skills, and finally by needed interests. Bunnies and
photographers need charm, playmates need physique, journalists need
intelligence. Likewise, essayists need intelligences, interviewees need charm,
and cover models need physique."
You should also get them to develop as many strong relationships as possible
so they can talk amongst themselves to satisfy there conversation drives.
Periodically check to make sure they're relationships with each other and your
girlfriends aren't in the red, if they are get them to "Work it out" so that
they don't argue affecting other relationships. Fighting staff are unhappy
staff, unhappy staff produce lousy content.
============================
4.4 Getting the Best Content
============================
Joe Mucchiello writes: "Optimally, you ask someone to write (articles,
essays, interviews) or photograph (pictorials) the topic that is first on
their interest list. Interviewer and interviewee should share the top interest
and one or more of the other two."
Consider the moods and drive levels of the celebrities/playmates and
photographers/journalists. Have these as high as possible before requesting
the content. You'll get lousy content from someone who's not satisfied.
A good profession relationship between staff and celebrity helps get better
content. Make sure none of their relations are in the red.
==========================
4.5 Profession Development
==========================
Have you're staff and celebrities increase their physique, intelligence, and
charm by using items with profession development items. Place these item in
high traffic areas and you'll get some spontaneous profession development.
Mirrors are a good option in the Main and Upper mansion as they provide boosts
to both intelligence and charm.
In the pool area the trampoline is good for physique.
The clubhouse gives a choice of physique raising exercise equipment: the
treadmill, jump rope, and weights.
Repeated ask content providers, both staff and celebrities, to use these
items. You'll get better quality contents and higher demographic bonuses.
Journalists
-----------
Joe Mucchiello provides this special case "Whenever your journalist is
standing around doing nothing, send her off to write an article. The more
articles she writes the more she interacts with her desk. This will raise her
intelligence causing the later articles to be better than the earlier article.
Seriously, just have write and delete any article that is not her best
article. Eventually you will have an article with great numbers in the 4
topics listed."
qwickwillie has sent me this expansion on the previous case "Go upstairs to
the office and have one of you writers follow you. Now while upstairs tell
them to write an article about anything. Using the desk increases the
intelligence stat. Normally a character only uses it for a couple of seconds,
but telling the writer to write an article makes them sit and use it for
several seconds. Using the more expensive desk makes this happen faster and it
might take 2-3 articles for them to max out. YOU MUST STAY UPSTAIRS WITH THEM
THE WHOLE TIME. Normally when you tell a writer to write an article they go
upstairs and it magically appears, with a little bump to their intelligence
stat. Having this stat maxed out makes their writing much better, I have
gotten several articles with a 10 in several areas!!"
Playmates
---------
Another example from Joe Mucchiello "Get your playmates up on the trampoline
before their centerfolds as often as you can. (And hey it's a great visual.)
It will improve their physical."
Hef
---
If you want to max Hef's charm will required repeated checking yourself in a
mirror, about 150 times, which also maxes intelligence at the same time. If
you do this at the beginning of the game before you hire staff, no money be
spent on the recurring staff salaries. It takes about 25 minutes to max these
out with the least expensive wall mirror.
If you want to max Hef's physique, spend two minutes on the treadmill you can
buy at the Clubhouse.
ThE)MaFiA has suggested an altnative method of maxing Hef's physique earlier
in the game: "I discovered you can raise for free your physique before hiring
staff just by using your stereo and tell Hef to dance, repeat X times to max
his physique." Warning this is very tedious, but you will likely get fewer
romantic rejection if you max your physique earlier on.
The strength of a characters likes are critical to get high demographic
bonuses. The demographic numbers on the Hef screen are the strength of likes.
These numbers are unfortunately hidden for all other characters.
You may have observed the demographics symbols rising from people during
conversation followed by a "+" . These represent the character's like for
that demographic increasing. The more a character likes a demographic the
more likely you are to get a high demographic bonus in it.
If you're hiring and firing staff constantly they never get the chance to
develop these and the content will stagnate a lower level. Its still a good
idea to replace lower famed staff with higher famed staff as you're building
up your own fame, but once the full five star staff start appears its time to
keep them on permanently so the can strengthen there likes. Have multiple (4
if you can afford it) journalist and photographer with diverse interests so
you can cover most of the demographics (8 if possible) with their first two
likes. The remaining demographics should be covered by their third likes.
When conversation you can trigger one of the demographic likes to increase by
selecting "Casual Talk", Romantic Talk, or Business Talk. The demographic
that rises is random.
cmh adds "If one of your staff or a content contributor has dislikes listed,
be sure to talk to them until they are gone. Do not ask for content from
someone with a dislike because on occasion you can actually get a negative
value in that category.
If your playing mission mode you should not concern yourself with the
following information but for free form this may be useful for getting the
higher circulation objectives. Playmates and celebrities are affected by this
as well but their harder to deal with as they come an go. You could
theoretical keep a playmate on staff for a few years to have one really good
centerfold and acquired three girlfriends but don't get any content from them
until your ready to put all of them into the same issue. Ideally the
girlfriend and the playmate would each have a different first like so your
could dominate the six top demographics.
=================================
4.7 Publishing a Successful Issue
=================================
There are several things to consider to put out a successful issue to get the
optimal fame increase and monetary gain. In some circumstances you may have
meet certain content requirements that will require adapting portions of this
strategy to accommodate them.
-----------------------------------
4.7.1 Check the Market Demographics
-----------------------------------
On the market demographics subscreen make a note of the highest 2-4
demographic potentials. These are the areas you should be concentrating on to
get the maximum circulation numbers.
You'll want to target the article, pictorial, essay, and interview towards
these demographics.
Covershots and Centerfolds contribute to the demographics as well but they are
harder to target.
EXCEPTION: If mission requirements call for a specific content and/or
demographics target those instead.
----------------------------------
4.7.2 Are staffing changes needed?
----------------------------------
For the first issue hire the photographer and journalist that have the higher
fame or meet the current market demographics. (Mission mode already has
default content available so opt for the fame)
For subsequent issues, assuming your fame has increased since the last issue,
there will likely be more famous employees (photographers/journalists)
available. They will typically produce better content that those of lower
fame. Also take into consideration their charm levels, giving preference to
those with better ratings there. (Journalists also need intelligences, but
this is easily maxed by getting them to write some articles while you look
over their shoulders in the upper mansion)
If there's a significant fame difference replace your lower fame employees,
especially if the new employee's likes better match the current market
demographics.
There's comes a point when its no longer advisable to replace staff. Once you
start getting the full five star staff members your fame should be high enough
the revenue from the magazine will allow you the have a full staff of four
journalists and photographers. Try to get them with diverse interests, with
there first two likes covering eight of the demographics if possible and the
last demographic covered by one or more of their third likes. This should
prepare you for any demographic alignment.
The reason for ending the hiring and firing cycle is the fact that staff
members likes strength during conversations. The stronger there likes the
higher the demographic bonuses are likely to be, which translates into
increased circulation, which means increased revenue.
Try to avoid the Confrontational, Jealous, and Drinker quirks among your
staff, these can cause problems in the long run.
----------------------------
4.7.3 Acquire a new playmate
----------------------------
The playmate you published in the previous issue has left your staff, so
you'll need a replacement. Look for fame, physique and charm when selecting a
Playmate. The negative quirks don't matter as much with the Playmates as they
will typically be leaving shortly.
EXCEPTION: Once mission mode objective automatically adds a playmate to your
lists of employees. You'll need to publish her to meet another objective.
While you can have up to four playmates on staff, they are an unnecessary
drain of the revenue as the increase to the demographic likes will be fairly
small over a three month period. One mission mode objective requires you to
maintain a staff of three but you can let their numbers dwindle after the
mission is complete. Free form mode player may want to keep some on staff for
a longer period (3-4 years or more) to get their bonuses fairly high in an
attempt to saturate all of the market demographics for the higher circulation
objectives.
---------------------------------
4.7.4 Check available Celebrities
---------------------------------
Take a look at the current list of available celebrities and determine which
ones will best fit the current demographic demands. If you decide to do the
centerfold, pictorial, and/or article ahead of time double check to see with
demographics have the most room for improvement. You may also want to
reconsider your choices after adding each piece of celebrity content in case
one adds an unexpected bonus to another content providers target demographic.
You shouldn't count on getting one's who have fame greatly in excess of your
own as they are likely to decline invitations. With that in mind select the
most famous one you can keeping you eye out for cover models with high
physique and then charm, interviewee with high charm, and essayists with high
intelligence.
You can either invite these celebrities to a party or call them to the mansion
if they happen to be in your inner circles. Girlfriends will already be at
the mansion so you can just ask them.
Keep in mind a celebrities will only provide one of each of the content types.
Also you can't have more that one piece of content from a celebrity at a time.
cmh adds "It's best to target people for an issue then invite them over as
much as possible or throw a few parties to get them all talking. They'll all
have similar bonus points in the various categories that way."
------------------------
4.7.5 Get the Centerfold
------------------------
You need an on staff photographer and Playmate for the centerfold.
If available your should get your Playmate to spend some time on the
Trampoline at the pool, or better the weights at the Clubhouse to build up her
physique. If the weights are available theres no reason why her physique
can't be maxed since it gives a substantial boost. Some time in front of a
mirror to raise charm can help as well but its slower going and the salary
clock is ticking, do this only if their entertainment and professional
development drives are less than max.
Photographers can also benefit from time in from of a mirror, if there
professional development or entertainment are lacking.
Have the Playmate and photographer develop a strong professional relationship.
The other relationships wouldn't hurt either (for the possible demographic
like bonuses and the drive satisfaction)
Have both of them sit down to max their leisure drive once you've satisfied
the other drives. The mood meter for both should be maxed, if not some
conversation with a Bunny may be in order.
With both moods maxed request a centerfold from the Playmate.
NOTE: Camera poses or location do NOT affect the quality of the content.
[Thanks chm]. You can in fact put the camera off center, or move so an object
completely obscured the model and still get a 5 bunny head shoot.
Martin writes: "NEVER cut a photo shoot short after taking the first pic. You
can back out before then without penalty. If you take too many unsatisfatory
pics (or just one of any quality) and back out to attempt a redo then delete
the content, the playmate or celebrity will not give you another chance at the
same type of shot. This means that you will never get that particular cover
shot or centerfold without reloading a previous save."
-------------------------
4.7.6 Get the Cover Shoot
-------------------------
The celebrity for the cover shoot will need to be invited to the mansion
(unless she the previous months playmate and you happen to be standing by her
when you publish), either by a party, inner circle call, or being your
girlfriend.
Also you need a strong relationship in one of the three categories to be able
to successfully request the Cover Shoot.
The rest of the process is more or less identical to the centerfold. Just
substitute Female celebrity for Playmate, and Cover Shoot for Centerfold in
the description.
This suggestion was submitted by ThE)MaFiA: "if you leave the Centerfold last
when making a issue, and before doing it you pump up the stats of the playmate
and the photographer then build a solid professional relation (as you
suggested), then make the centerfold, publish and STRAIGHT away use the former
playmate (now a published playmate) to make the covershot you get a fantastic
and free covershot (since the stats are still high)."
The note from Martin in the previous subsection also applies here.
-------------------
4.7.7 Get the Essay
-------------------
The celebrity for the essay will need to be invited to the mansion, either by
a party, inner circle call, a just published playmate, or being your
girlfriend.
Also you need a strong relationship in any of the three categories to be able
to successfully request the Essay.
Satisfy the essayist drives, the mirror raising intelligence and charms as
well as improving both the professional development and entertainment drives.
In the clubhouse, have them use a painting instead, the games or a dance floor
can be used for entertainment there.
You'll like want to personally handle to conversation drives. Choose the
Business/Casual/Romantic Talk options for the demographic interest boost. It
won't be much but it might be enough to squeeze out an extra bonus point.
If the characters male have them talk to a bunny for the romantic drives and
extra mood boost.
Have them sit down somewhere if there leisure drive is in need.
Once their mood meter is maxed, ask them for an essay which will cost you some
money. Choosing a topic in their demographic of choose will like get you the
biggest bonus in it, but if you're in a situation where another demographic is
lacking having them write in that categories has a good chance of benefiting
both demographics.
-----------------------
4.7.8 Get the Interview
-----------------------
The celebrity for the Interview will need to be invited to the mansion (unless
she the previous months playmate and you happen to be standing by her when you
publish), either by a party, inner circle call, or being your girlfriend.
Also you need a strong relationship in one of the three categories to be able
to successfully request the Interview.
You'll need a journalist for the interview as well, ideally one who shares
some of their interests.
Like with the centerfold and cover shoot, you should get them to develop a
strong professional relationship as well as casual and romantic. (If both are
male a bunny may be needed for a group conversation.)
Professional development and entertainment is best satisfied with mirrors for
the charm boost. In the clubhouse use paintings and the dance floor.
Have them sit before the interview to max their leisure.
When both mood meters are maxed request the interview from the celebrity.
---------------------
4.7.9 Get the Article
---------------------
To get the article all you need to do is ask the journalist to write one. If
you're upstairs in the mansion with them they will quickly max their
intelligence, the critical factor in articles as they write them.
Before requesting the article have the journalist max their drives and mood
out first as was done for the essayist.
Request the article in a lacking demographic, ideally from a journalist who
has an interest in that category.
Articles cost you nothing so get you're journalists to write several and
choose the one with the best demographic bonuses and discard the rest.
------------------------
4.7.10 Get the Pictorial
------------------------
The pictorial is requested from your photographers and will cost some money.
Before requesting the pictorial have the photographer max their drives and
mood out first as was done for the essayist.
Request the pictorial in a lacking demographic, ideally for a photographer who
has an interest in that category.
While pictorials cost money you will want to request a few and choose one the
best demographic bonuses.
----------------------------
4.7.11 Selecting the Content
----------------------------
The are two thing that impact circulation numbers to consider before accepting
content to be published: quality and demographic bonuses. The bonuses for the
cover and centerfold are hidden so you'll be relying on the quality for those.
Quality
-------
The quality of an content piece depends on the fame and at least one of
physique, intelligence, and charm of the provider(s). Low moods can have a
negative impact on the quality of a content as well.
Quality for the content ranges from 0 to 5 bunny heads, except for the article
with ranges from 0 to 3, and the pictorial which ranges from 0 to 3.5
For the first few issue you probably need to take what you can get, but as
them fame as the content providers increase don't accept anything short of
maybe 0.5 less than max.
cmh notes "5 bunny quality is only possible by 5 star people." I concur based
on my own observations although the fifth start doesn't need to be completed
filled. Deduct half a bunny head per missing start.
Low quality content reduces the impact of the demographic bonus so try to get
as high as possible.
Demographic Bonuses
-------------------
The displays for the article, essay, interview and pictorial shows for
demographic icons for 4 of the 9 categories. When you have a choice of
content select that one with the high total for these four numbers, but beware
of saturating a demographic or dumping bonus points into a low demographic.
If faced with choosing between two categories with the same remain potential,
put the points into the one with the fewest points already, it will have the
greatest impact.
Sometimes you'll get an interview or essay with 0 demographic bonuses, they
are almost worthless and should be discarded unless they are required content.
The demographic bonuses for the pictorial and article will gradually increase
as the staff member remains in your employee due to their participation in
conversations.
The high bonuses for the other pieces are more difficult to obtain. One idea
is to keep three 5 star girlfriends in reserve to release simultaneous content
after several years to hopefully saturate all the demographics (to accomplish
the free form circulation objectives). Keeping a 5 star Playmate at the same
time may help as well.
-------------------------------
4.7.12 Set Price and Ad Content
-------------------------------
Once you have all the content you need to choose a price and ad content for
the issue.
Where you set these will determine how much money you make and whether you
gain or lose fame.
It is vitally important to avoid fame losses. You need to reach about 55% of
the potential audience to break even on fame. You'll want to ideally reach a
large percentage than that so that your fame with increase so reduce the price
and ad content beyond the point where 55% of the demographics appear to be
filled, try for 65-70%.
Check "6.4 Financial data and commentary on my free form attempt" to see the
settings I used to get to max fame in just over twelve months. You're mileage
may vary.
It you reduce the settings to $1 and 10% you'll maximize sales and get the
best fame increase but the revenue received won't be enough to sustain mansion
operations. At max fame you probably safe at $4 and 25%, only use the $1 and
10% setting if you're going for a circulation record if free form.
WARNING: The targeted mission mode issues may negatively effect you fame
unless you several reduce the settings.
---------------------------------------------
4.7.13 Publish the Issue and Reap the Profits
---------------------------------------------
All that remains is to send the issue to press and wait for Dick to tell you
the results. Check the financial records afterwards to check the impact on
your fame.
You may get so extra points as a reward for publishing an issue. I think
these may be related to the number of "that was on of your best [content
items] ever" content items you use in the issue, based on observation by Paul
and myself.
#Items Reward Message
4 2 points "That was a really great issue"
5 5 points "That was one of your best issues ever"
6 6 points "A PERFECT Issue!" (The issue will have 5 bunny head instead
of 4.5 as well)
---------------
4.7.14 Warnings
---------------
Content Degradation
-------------------
If you hold a piece of content in stock for a few issues (about 3), its
quality will degrade as it becomes stale dated, either use it before this
happens or discard it.
Check your financial records regularly
--------------------------------------
Pay attention to the fame increase and decrease, if you see a negative number
your price and/or ad content are to high. Reduce one or both of them to get
the fame change back to the positive side.
Don't over saturate your inner contact list
------------------------------------------
New celebrities won't appear if you have too many inner circle contacts.
Try to keep your list to a manageable size 10-30.
===============================
4.8 Throwing a Successful Party
===============================
A party cost money to throw. The price increases with the fame of the guests
(whether or not they decide to come). Keep that in mind if you're low on
funds.
You should be in the location you want to hold the party, ideally the
location where you have the best entertainment/profession development items.
It might be a good idea to check out their relationship levels ahead of time,
a guest that is in bad relationship with several other guests might create
difficulties.
------------------------------
4.8.1 Selecting the guest list
------------------------------
How you select the guest list is going to depend on when the purpose is to
throw a required special party, meet a specific contact, or gather magazine
content (or contacts for future content).
In all cases (except the required part of the special parties) consider your
own fame prior to choosing celebrity guests. Guests that are more famous than
you are likely to decline the invitation. The chance of this happening
increases as the fame difference does. You're useless pretty safe until the
difference is 3 or more points on the star.
Watch out for confrontational people on the list, they can negatively effect
moods with their random arguments. Jealous people can be a problem as well
since their romantic and casual relationships can suddenly go negative.
4.8.1.1 Content Party
---------------------
Let's look at gathering magazine content first. There are three pieces of
content that you need to acquire from celebrities on the guest list: the cover
shoot, the interview, and the essay.
The cover model should ideally has as high a physique as possible. Similarly
the interview required high charm, and the essay high intelligence. Choose
these three from the list of available celebrities, keeping in mind that a
celebrity will only provide one of each type of content regardless of whether
you use or discard it, and only one type of content until
the one you have is used or discarded.
In addition to the celebrities, you'll need a photographer for the photo
shoot, and a journalist for the interview. Try to pick one that closely
matches the likes of the cover model, or interviewee.
While the three celebrities and your to staff are enough to start the party,
consider rounding out the guest list.
Bunnies and playmates can be used to increase guests moods, consider one or
two of them. The bunnies moods and drives are permanently full so you don't
need to expend time on them at a party.
You may also want to add some additional celebrities as possible inner circle
contacts. If you're not looking for current content, consider substituting
celebrities for the photographer and journalist.
4.8.1.2 Specific Contact Party
------------------------------
The intent of this party is develop a with relation with a specific person, or
develop relationship between two or more specific people.
Make sure the people required for the objective are invited.
Add bunnies, and other staff as you see fit or requirements (i.e. specific
content) call for.
You'll want to be concentrating on the issue at hand, so unless the object
calls for a large party, try to keep the guest list to five so the others
don't get it the way.
4.8.2.4 Special Party
---------------------
In the case of a mission mode special party several of the guests with
automatically be choose for you leaving you with one or more open spots.
Add a bunny to improve moods. If space on the list permits, adding a
photographer and journalist could let you convert this into a content party.
-------------------------
4.8.3 Attending the Party
-------------------------
4.8.3.1 Accomplish Your Goal
-----------------------------
Make sure you accomplish the task you set for yourself for the party.
If you intend to bring someone into your inner circle or acquire a new
girlfriend during the party, the suggestion from cmh should be kept in mind.
"Always get new people into your Inner Circle as early as possible at your
parties. Sometimes people tend to wander off and leave before you know it."
Content
-------
If your gathering content, develop some type of strong relationship with each
of the three celebrities. This is necessary to get them to agree to give you
the content.
You'll want the cover model to develop a strong professional relationship with
the photography, and the interviewee to develop a strong relationship with
your journalist.
Before asking the celebrities for the content you want to make sure that their
drives and satisfied (and those of your staff when applicable), see "Make Sure
the Guests are Happy". If possible boost their physique, charm, and
intelligence on appropriate profession development items.
Contacts
--------
All you need to do here is the build up a strong casual relationship with the
person and invite them to your Inner Circle.
For a girlfriend build up a strong romantic relationship with the woman and
ask her to be your girlfriend.
If a contract or deal is required build up a professional relationship with
them ask them to strike a deal or sign a contract as applicable.
Introductions
-------------
If the objective requires you to get two people to develop a relationship ask
one to follow you and introduce them to the other. If their relationship is
negative, get them to "Work it Out".
Watch out for them walking away from each other. Lead one back to the other
if that happens.
If a third person decides to join the conversation, interrupting them to allow
the conversation to continue.
4.8.3.2 Make Sure the Guests are Happy
--------------------------------------
The key to a successful party is making sure the guests drives are satisfied.
If their drives are satisfied their moods will be high ensuring a successful
party.
Lead people with lacking entertainment drives to entertainment items. A bar
is a strong entertainment booster but you'll need to be careful they don't get
drunk. In the clubhouse any of the assorted games or the dance floor make a
good substitute. A mirror in the Main Mansion will provide a minor boost.
Try the diving board at the pool, or the peacock, parrot, and flamingo if
you've bought them.. Food carts can be used in all locations.
The professional development drive can be satisfied by getting them to use
professional development items. Mirror, paintings, and bookshelves in the main
mansion, the trampoline at the pool. Any exercise equipment at the clubhouse,
as well as paintings and the dance floor.
The leisure drive can be satisfied by getting them to sit down on a chair or
sofa. The hot tubs at the pool and clubhouse can be used as well. Racer XXX
at the clubhouse gives a small boost to leisure while satisfying the
entertainment drive.
For the three conversational drives, either engage them in the appropriate
conversation or introduce them to others for the lacking conversations
type(s). Group discussion can be used satisfy the drives of several people
at a time.
cmh adds "NEVER leave people alone doing nothing. Always play the host and
make introductions! That's the way to increase your content points."
Apparently this doesn't appear in the PS2 version: If you can afford it
the Indoor Waterfall will simplify drives satisfaction. Telling someone to
use it boost all of the drives and can take even the most depressed guest
to fully happy in four or five mediation sessions.
4.8.3.3 When to end the party
-----------------------------
You might not get a fame boost if you end the party too soon even if all of
the guests are happy.
Wait until at least the first person leave on their own. You can tell that
they are partied out and ready to leave when you see the "zzz" appear above
their head. Bunnies never get tired so if you've invited any you'll need to
manually end the party.
4.8.4 After the party
---------------------
If the party was successful you should see a star+ above Hef's head and a
"Party Successful" message. I believe about 100 fame points (5% of a star)
are earned for a successful party. There doesn't seem to be a penalty for
botching the party.
Afterwards your girlfriends and staff will start spilling into the area when
you are. Those who weren't at the party may have some severally depleted
drives. Get some group discussion going to help remedy the situation.
There are several potential gamestoppers in the game:
#1. Jose Conseco and Rob Drydek can leave for good in mission 4. When you
hear Jenny tell you that they've arrived (shortly after the tour group does)
get to the main mansion and get them into your Inner circle so you can get
them back to the mansion. Ideally secure a piece of content from each.
#2. The game will let you delete required content such as Hef's Essay in
Mission 4. You can only get a particular piece of content from a person
once, if it's required make sure you don't delete it. Another example is the
cover photo of the girlfriend for the "Promote Her" objective in Mission 8.
#3. It may be possible to fire a required Playmate in mission 9 before you
take her centerfold.
#4. Not really a gamestopper but you can avoid a very tedious series of
parties and publishing by keeping three tech celebrities in your inner circle
until the beginning of chapter 11.
#5. Don't save the game if you're stuck and unable to walk. I got stuck by
the Grotto Hot Tub on the side opposite the waterfall when making an
introduction. Perhaps getting a woman's romantic relationship with you high
enough to have sex would get you unstuck but I never tested this.
#6. In mission 9, don't exhaust the content from either Trippy Dee or Svelta
Coulette, before you form a relationship with Melissa Houston. You won't get
credit for promoting them.
#7. Clef_san experienced the following glitch
--
(In the mission 6 objective) "Getting the chemistry going," the mission will
not complete even if Paris and Knocker get into a romantic/sexual
relationship, preventing you from advancing in the game.
To prove this, I had them both their mood maxed out, bother their romantic
relionship guage toward each other maxed out, got them to have sex on the
couch at least 3 times per party (attempted during 2 parties and 1 housecall)
and the mission will not complete.
--
My only suggestion is to keep an archival save from just before the end of the
previous chapter or the beginning of this one to fall back to if necessary.
===================
4.10 Other Glitches
===================
The pool has been known to disappear in some games when the grotto is
unlocked. Save the game the prior to the party to invite Hillary to the
Mansion so you can reload if this happens.
I notice one character lost most of her features after an outfit change. It
corrected itself after a few seconds.
Paul noticed that if you acquire more than $100 Million, the cash will
suddenly decrease to $99 Million. This may be a mechinism to enforce a cap on
the money.
Mario writes: "When you do a pool party, if you ask a celebrity to do an
essay, he will NOT leave the party, thus NOT writing it. The workaround is to
make him follow you and go to the main mansion, then release him.. He will
then go out by himself and write the essay."
There are multiple save slots use them to your advantage. For certain keep a
save from the beginning of a mission in case you mess up horribly. Saving
before publishing a magazine can let you play with the price and ad content to
maximize fame or income.
This mission is essential a tutorial on the gameplay. Pay attention to the
dialog so you'll know how to navigate the various menus.
Objectives:
----------
Set up Office Upstairs
Hire Staff
Do a centerfold Photo shoot
Publish a Magazine
Meet Jak
----------------------------
5.1.1 Set up Office Upstairs
----------------------------
You start the game with $100,000 standing in from on your mansion. You are
greeted by Playmate Julie McCollough at the doors to the mansion. Follow her
inside and activate the Hef Menu when she tells you too. Navigate through
the Hef Menu submenus to familiarize yourself with them.
Star Bunny Victoria Fuller will show up soon and ask you to talk to her.
When you do, she will explain conversations and drives.
No would be a good time put what Victoria just told you to practice. Talk to
her and Julia to raise your various relationships with them by selecting
options in the casual, romantic, and professional categories. You already
have a hire casual relationships with both so concentrate on the professional
and romantic categories.
Eventually your Chief of Staff, Dick Rosenzweig, will tell you to come
upstairs when you're ready. Do so by activating the stairs and climbing them
after you're finishing talking to Julie and Victoria.
When you get upstairs Dick will tell you to buy a Staff Desk which is
required for you to hire a journalist. Go into the Mansion screen. On the
furnishing subscreen select the office category, and the select the Staff
Desk (the other desks won't work).
This complete the "Set Up Office Upstairs" objective and gives you a 2 point
reward.
While you're in the process of buying furnishings you might want to pick up a
backdrop that can be used in photo shoots.
----------------
5.1.2 Hire Staff
----------------
You'll be told by you archive manager that these point can be spent unlocking
stuff under extras in the pause menu which you should explore now.
Now you can go to the Roster Menu and then to the Staff Subscreen. There

reintroduce them to change the relationship category. You can monitor the
levels either by calling up the relationship menu on by activating the people
finder. Once they have a good relationship check there drive meter and raise
them if they're low.
Now its time to ask Julie to do a Centerfold. Select either the Main Mansion
or the Upper Mansion as a locale and place Julie on the map.
Adjust her wardrobe as desired and snap 8 photos. You can tell her to move
to a new pose location in the same map during the shoot if you desire (Joe
Mucchiello informs me that this feature isn't in the PS2 version).
Try to zoom in on her as much as possible without cropping too much of her.
This completes the Do a Centerfold Photo shoot objective for a 2 point reward.

way over to see you. When he arrives build up you casual relationship with
him.

If you want you can invite Jak into your Inner Circle. You may also notice
two woman who arrived with Jak, establish relations with this if you desire.

the three sub options under extras. Also call up the relationship menu since
you may not have been in there yet.)
The first mission is now complete earning a two point reward. You'll be
asked if you want to save the game before proceeding to the next mission.
-----------------------------------------
5.1.6 Get With the Twins (secret mission)
-----------------------------------------
Thank to Thomas for the following information:
--
I'm playing the PC version (not finished yet) and I've looked through your
guide and noticed that the "Make it with the twins" secret goal is missing.
When Jack appears in mission 2, I talked to the twins before I got to know Jak
(don't know if the order is vital to complete this mission). I established a
high romantic relationship with both, and I completed the "Make it with the
twins" secret goal. Of course Jak got pissed so I had to apologize to him,
after that I completed the "Meet Jak" goal :)
As a bonus, some time in to mission 3, brazillian triplets come to visit me -
they are friends of the twins and start out with a very high romantic
relationship ;)
--
There's a 10 point reward for completing this secret mission.

make her your girlfriend)
After satisfying her drives, have get to know you photographer. Once they've

available on the Staff Roster and build up your relationship with her.
Introduce her to you photography so they can build up a relationship and ask
her to do the shoot.
This completes the Get Centerfold objective and earn a reward of 4 points.
There may be an extra 2 point reward for one of your better centerfolds.
------------------------
5.2.8 Ship another Issue
------------------------
Now that you've obtained all you're content you can publish the second issue
in the same way you did the first one.
This completes the Ship another Issue objective and earns the Massage Table,
a Fitness Furnishing for the Upper Mansion.
You may receive 2 points as a reward for one of your better issues.
----------------------
5.2.9 Jak's Pool Party
----------------------
This objective doesn't appear in the list for the main mission objective.
Its possible that you may have needed to ask Jak into your inner circle to
receive it.
Billy writes that if you had to Apologize to Jak (i.e. by completing the Get
With the Twin secret mission) this mission won't appear.
This objective asks who to throw a party for Jak and two of his friends:
Felix da House Cat and Uncle Kraker. They are very famous, if you invite them
into your inner circle they may not come if you call them so this party would
be a good time to get an interview from one and an essay from the other for a
later issue so make sure you're journalist come to the party along with a few
attractive women.
Build up you're relationships with Jak's friend and get one to them to
develop a rapport with you journalist so you can get a good interview while
you ask the other for a essay.
Joe Mucchiello writes "Get a music essay from Felix since he has more
intelligence than Cracker. Interview Cracker. Then in the next issue
interview the Felix and get an essay from someone else since by then you
should know someone better than Cracker. Also if you use them in issues
one after another, your mag will shift heavily into the music realm.
Making the sports issue in mission 4 less effective."
The Jak's Pool Party objective will be completed after the party ends and
earn a 3 point reward.
Once all of the objective for mission 2 have been completed you'll earn a 4

professional relationship until you can "Discuss Deal" and then "Strike A
Deal". Be prepared to take a loss.
This completed the "Make an Associate" objective earning a reward of 3 points
----------------------
5.3.6 Make Girlfriends
----------------------
Either pick two women from your Inner Circle, or invite two to a party. Work
on your romantic relationships with them until you can ask them to be your
girlfriend.

that you'll need to publish in a magazine later on during this mission. There
appears to be another requirement as well see below.
When you publish that is it will complete the Publish Playboy Philosophy
objective and Unlock the Michaelangelo, some Wall Art for the Main Mansion.
Be careful not to delete this essay.
NOTE: Some people have reported the essay has not appeared in their game. My
stats in the play through I'm basing this guide follow. Try raising any you're
lower in, if you're certain you didn't delete it accidently.
UPDATE: Buffysim02, who experienced the problem of the essay not appearing
initially, stated in a follow up email "I was playing .., and when I checked
again it [Hef's essay] was there. I wonder if I did something to trigger it?
I was really doing stuff to get more content for the mags."
I'm leaning towards the number of relationships being a factor as those would
likely increase when gathering content.

This will complete the "Find Out What Happened" objective earning a 4 point
reward.
--------------------
5.4.3 Patch Up Staff
--------------------
Check the Objectives in the Hef menu to find out which of your employee are
fighting.
The simplest solution is to fire one of them.
As an alternative ask one to follow you and introduce them to the other for a
profession conversion. You can interact with either one to get them to "Work
it Out" twice. Once their relation is positive again the objective is
complete.
The reward for this objective in a Playmate casual outfit, the Retro Zip-
Front.

This a party inviting your two fighting girlfriends, and there common ex-
boyfriend, Blaze Starr. You need to invite two more people so choose your
photographer and a female sports star to obtain a cover shoot for this
missions sports issue.
Get the two girlfriend to have a casual conversion with each other and "Work
it Out". Once the relation is in the green, to the same with each of the girls
and Blaze.
When all three casual relation are positive, the "Patch Up Girlfriend
Relationships" objective will be completed unlocking the Round Bed, a Bed and
Bath Item for the Upper Mansion.
Obtain the sports cover shoot and get Blaze into you inner circle before
ending the party.
-------------------------------
5.4.5 Convert Chance Encounters
-------------------------------
NOTE: At some point Jenny will announce a tour group going through the
mansion. While she say its not necessary, you may want to establish some
contacts in this group of academics for future content. You may want to do
this while you're waiting for Jose Conseco and Rob Drydek to arrive. Later on
Jenny will say tell you their leader, Melda, has expressed in interest in
being in Playboy. [There may be a bonus object here, boydarwin on the IGN
boards has states that 5 or 10 bonus point were receive for putting her on the
cover.]
boydarwin has found an extra secret, a hidden Playmate, resulting from putting
Melda on the cover: "Before Jose Cansenco shows up the tour group comes
through. Talk to Melda. Convince her to do the cover. Release an non sports
issue first with Hefs essay and Melda on the cover. The combination seems to
work well as I made quite a bit of money with the issue. When it is officially
published you get 10 extra points for using Melda. Then Julie comes on and
lets you know that Petra Veriak heard about Melda and wants to be on the cover
to. She now appears on your list of available celebrities and quite high star
rating. Chat her up get her on the cover of your sports issue. Your issue ends
up being quite successful again if you are using her, Jose and Rob Dyreck. Not
only that, when you publish it you get another 10 points for using Petra on
the cover. "
When Jose and Rob arrive, start by getting Jose into your inner circle and
have him develop a professional relationship with you journalist so you can
get a good interview. While they're building their relationship work on
getting Rob into your Inner Circle and ask him for a Sports essay. As always
make sure all drives are satisfied before asking for content.
When you've obtained content from both the "Convert Chance Encounters"

write a sport article. Do a centerfold shoot once the pictorial is finished.
Publish the issue using the sports content you've obtained.
This completes the "Publish A Sports Issue" objective earning a 2 point
reward.
Save Hef's Essay (to satisfy the first objective in this mission) to publish
in the next issue. Joe Mucchiello writes "It is definitely better to hold
Hef's manifesto for the issue after the sports issue. Putting an interview
and essay by the two sports celebs in the same issue should max out the
sports requirement for the issue guaranteeing a best seller. Using
Hef's essay makes it harder to max out the sports theme."
--------------------------
5.4.7 Patch Up Friendships
--------------------------
Either call your fighting friend over or invite them to a party. Introduce
them and get them to have a casual conversion. Work it out twice and wait
for their relationship to strengthen.
This completes the Patch Up Friendships object earning a reward of 4 points.
---------------------
5.4.8 There's a Hitch
---------------------
If you want some extra money for decorating the mansion and other expense
consider publishing extra issue beyond the required ones for completing the
final object for the mission.
NOTE: Save before starting this party in case a glitch which some people have
reported occurring in which the pool vanished when the grotto is unlocked. I
didn't encounter it.
Invite Hillary to a party in the Main Mansion along with at least four others
guests (maybe the leader of the group of academics whose expressed an interest
in being in the magazine). This unlocks the grotto in the pool area.
NOTE: Save the game in a new slot and wander over to the pool to make sure it
unlocked properly. Otherwise try reloading the previous save and trying
again.
If you want you can get Hillary into you're inner circle and build up both
your romantic, professional relationships with her as well. However Joe
Mucchiello writes that its sufficient to boost her romantic relationship to
the
point were she'll have sex with you.
End the party to complete the "There's a hitch" objective for a 4 point
reward.
Complete the fourth mission unlocks Olivia's Hef, some Wall Art for the Main

-----------------------
5.6.6 Pull Some Strings
-----------------------
If you want you get Markus, Building and Lily into your inner circle and get
some content from them before ending the party.
Now you need to hold another party inviting Robert Aganasio, an influential
politician. Build up a casual relationship with him, inviting him to your

earn a 4 point reward.
You be asked to spend some money (85000 if the Fundraiser was successful,

more people you please at this party the less you pay, I know I missed at
least one of guests special conditions when I got the 85000.] When you do so
you'll complete the Unlisted "Fund the Foundation" objective for a 5 point

5.7.4 Staff Live the life (Tough Times at the Mansion 2/3)
-------------------------
You may notice that your staffs mood meter is at rock bottom even thought
their drives are maxed. You won't be getting anything of quality out of them
until you do something about it.
Throw the staff party in the Pool area. Dita Von Teese, your bunny,
photographers, and journalists will be invited.

If your consistently getting low ranking content, make sure you've had all
three of the Girlfriends, Staff, and Playmates parties, and the moods and
drives of those responsible for the content are high (If Dick is giving you
negative comments they may be too low). For photo shoots and interviews a
strong professional relationship between the participants is a good idea as
well, and make sure the casual and romantic relationships aren't negative.
Also don't expect top quality content from low fame staff and celebrities, try
to get one with fame as high as possible.

Objectives
----------
Put out multiple tech issues
Get 3 Tech Friends
Get to Know Angelica Church
Sign Angelica On
Fulfill Anglica's Fantasy
Host Nettie Awards Party
Impress Jimmy Graham
Sign Binary Chaos
Pay Starting Costs
-------------------------
5.11.1 Get 3 Tech Friends
-------------------------
If you had the foresight to bring three tech celebrities you'll already have
this objective complete. Otherwise, you'll be face with a list of celebrities
without enough techs to fulfill the requirement. There may be a minimum fame
requirement as well.
If you examine the current list of celebrities, you'll notice that the only
new name is Alicia Burley, the Cybergirl of the Year. Record the names of all
of the celebs in the current list, you may need to refer to it.
While its not strictly necessary to do so, you should start by inviting Alicia
to a party, any techs who aren't members of your inner circle. Invite her
into your inner circle and satisfy her drives. Bring any techs you invited
into your inner circle as well. End the party. (If you don't invite her to the
first party and bring her into the inner circle you risk her vanishing and you
losing a great tech cover.)
After you've had the first party, you'll notice some new names in the
celebrity list. If none of them are techs invite them to a party, max your
casual relationship with but don't bring them into the inner circle.
Repeat the process of inviting the new names in the celebrity list until the
techs start showing up.
You may experience problems with this objective if you've overextended your
inner circle. In my first playthrough I had about 55 people in my inner
circle excluding girlfriends and it took a long time for the techs to should
up, by which time the list had dwindled to about 45.
On my second and current playthrough the techs showed up immediately after the
party with Alicia, this is with 25 inner circle members.
In an experiment when I didn't invite her to the first party, I had four new
nontechs show up while Alicia vanished. The next party inviting the four new
celebrities, one of whom declines resulted in the celebrity being added to the
list.
If your face with a situation where you don't get the techs after two or three
parties, start completely ignoring your inner circle and hold parties with the
other celebrities until the size of your inner circle decreases below the
required threshold. You might want to spend some time training yourself or
staff while waiting for the "has left your inner circle" messages.
Be patient the techs will show up eventually. Just don't add anyone beside
Alicia or a tech to your inner circle until they do.
Once you have gotten three techs into you're inner circle the "Get 3 Tech
Friends" will be complete earning a reward of 7 points
-----------------------------------
5.11.2 Put out multiple tech issues
-----------------------------------
You have two choices here, either publish 3 consecutive issues with tech
demographic bonuses of 15 or more, or 2 back to back issues with tech
demographics bonuses of 25 or more. The demographic bonus is calculated by
adding up the numbers beside the pda icon is the article, pictorial, essay,
and interview.
You should cycle through the photographers and journalists to try to locate
ones with more that four starts of fame with tech as there first like. Have
the journal write several articles until you get some with 8 tech bonus
points. The pictorial costs money to shoot but you should have a fairly large
reserve by now. A decent photographer may bring in the occasional pictorial
with a 10 point bonus in tech. Keep the best three tech bonus wise. Get
interviews and essays from your new or old tech friends. The interviews are
likely the be fairly low between 0-3. (You might want to save in case you get
a 0 in tech). The essay with likely come in between 4-6 tech bonus point.
The reward for completing the "Put out multiple tech issues" is 8 points. It
makes no difference if you go the two or the three issue routes.
----------------------------------
5.11.3 Get to Know Angelica Church
----------------------------------
Invite Angelica Church to a party. Build up a professional relationship with
her.
Once the relationship is strong enough, the "Get to Know Angelica Church"
earning a 7 point reward.
End the party.
--------------------------------
5.11.4 Fulfill Anglica's Fantasy
--------------------------------
Invite Angelica Church and Melody Essex to a party in the Pool Area.
Lead one into the grotto and then get the other. Introduced them for a
romantic conversation. Their romantic relationship is very high already so it
shouldn't take too long to complete the "Fulfill Anglica's Fantasy" objective.
(It may be necessary for their romantic drives to turn green.)
The reward earned is 7 point.
-----------------------
5.11.5 Sign Angelica On
-----------------------
Work on your profession relationship with Angelica some more.
Get her to sign a contract to complete the sign Angelica on objective for a 7
point reward.
---------------------------
5.11.6 Impress Jimmy Graham
---------------------------
Go to the Main Mansion and host the Nettie's party. There are 8 required
guests who are associates for Will Frates, the CEO of Binary Chaos. Jimmy
Graham is the one you interested in. You should invite two female employees
as well.
Build up a professional relationship with Jimmy until Dick tells you that he's
taking playboy.com seriously. At this point begin introducing Jimmy to some
women, either the other guests or your staff, for romantic conversations.
You'll need to get him to max out his relationships with 2 women.
This completes the "Impress Jimmy Graham" objective earning a 7 point reward.
-------------------------------
5.11.6 Host Nettie Awards Party
-------------------------------
Don't neglect the rest of Mr. Frates associates at the party. Jenny will hint
that you'll get a better deal when you sign him on if they're kept happy.
Work the room and max as many of there drives and moods as possible before
bringing the party to a close.
This completes the "Host Nettie Awards Party" objective earning a 6 point
reward and $50,000.
Dick will ask you if you want to cut a check to pay Mr. Frates, the amount
isn't displayed but will depend on the guests satisfaction levels at the
Netties party. Say yes.
This complete the "Pay Starting Costs" objective earning an 8 point reward.
Completing Mission 11 unlocks a rug for the Main Mansion, the Regency Rug.
POINTS EXPLOIT: Lord in Utero Unborned has informed my if you say no to this
question you'll need to get another contract from Will Frates which gives you
the 7 point reward from the previous objectly. This can be repeated multiple
times.
Finally its time to publish your 600th issue, thankfully the timeline's a
little more compressed than that. You'll be publishing a near perfect issue,
lining up talent for the 50th Anniversary Special, and holding a special
Anniversary mission.

you should let happen first. While your waiting, cycles through the available
journalist to find a highly famous one with a like for sports.
The first event is Will Frates showing up at the Mansion Gates, down and out.
Let him stay and cheer him up by working at maximizing his drives until Jenny
tells you he's ready to leave the Mansion.
The other event is a ROK TV Announcement that activates the "Line up a
Director" objective.
You might also want to try getting the cover, centerfold, article, and
pictorial for the perfect issue now.
-----------------------------
5.12.2 Hold a Party for Jo Jo
-----------------------------
Throw the Boxer Party. Besides the guest of honor, Jo Jo Charge, invite your
sports journalist. You could also invite Yeardley Fullheart, and Zack Trick.
Fill out the guest list with other celebrities and staff.
You'll want to make sure Jo Jo is kept happy at the party, he'll give you an
extra fame boost later if he enjoyed himself.
You should be getting the interview from Jo Jo, the essay from Yeardley, and a
contract from Zack during the party, I cover these shortly.
Make sure that the guest drives are satisfied before ending the party.
This completes the "Hold a Party For Jo Jo" earning a 7 point reward.
--------------------------
5.12.3 Interview the Boxer
--------------------------
Get Jo Jo into your inner circle then introduce him to your sports journalist.
Have them form a professional relationship.
Make sure their drives are satisfied and ask Jo Jo for an interview.
When the interview is over the "Interview the Boxer" objective will be
complete, earning an 8 point reward.
The interview should be a 5 bunny head interview if Jo Jo and your journalist
are happy.
-------------------------------
5.12.4 Essay from the Candidate
-------------------------------
Build a strong relationship (either casual or professional) relationship with
Yeardley. Don't bother with the inner circle, he won't be staying in it.
Max his drives and request an Art & Literature (his first like) essay from
him.
When he's finished writing it the "Essay from the Candidate" objective will be
complete earning an 8 point reward.
-----------------------
5.12.5 Line Up Director
-----------------------
Build up a professional relationship with Zack Trick. Get him to sign a
contract.
This completes the "Line Up Director" objective earning an 8 point reward.
--------------------
5.12.6 Get the Girls
--------------------
Unless you've broken up with one of your girlfriends, you should have four of
them already. If not acquire more until you have four, you need to have
started the fourth fame star to get the last one.
When you have four girlfriend and after signing Zack, the "Get the Girls"
objective will be complete earning an 8 point reward.
-------------------------
5.12.7 Cure for Cold Feet
-------------------------
Invite Yeardley and at least 4 women to the Mansion. Build up a professional
relationship with Yeardley until Jenny tells you that he trusts you.
Now start introducing him to women for romantic conversations. Build his
romantic relationship with four of them up to about 75%.
This completes the "Cure For Cold Feet" objectives earning an 8 point reward.
Yeardley essay is now available in the content sub screen. It should be a 5
bunny head essay if his drives were satisfied when you requested it.
---------------------
5.12.8 Sign Up O'Burg
---------------------
Invite Carmen Split to a party.
Build up a professional relationship with her and get her to sign a contract.
This completes the "Sign Up O'Burg" objective and earns an 8 point reward.
-------------------------
5.12.9 Sign Two Comedians
-------------------------
Invite two comedians two a party.
Build up professional relationships both of them and get them to sign
contracts.
This completes the "Sign Two Comedians" objective and earns an 8 point reward.
------------------------------
5.12.10 Buy Dresses from Nerman
------------------------------
At some point after you've completed "Get the Girls" you'll be asked to buy
dresses for them.
If you helped out Will Frates earlier, the price will be $300,000. If you
sent him away instead the price will be $400,000.
Say yes to complete the "Buy Dresses from Nerman" objective earning a 10 point
reward.
-----------------------
5.12.11 Reunite the Band
-----------------------
Invite the five members of O'Burg to a party: Logan Ettle, Chaz Ettle, Karen
Forester, Guy Steppe, and Traci Hewitt.
Logan has a very slight negative relationship both casually and
professionally. Its so slight you don't need to "Work it out", if fact you
don't get that option if you try.
Introduce Logan to each of the other four members twice, once professionally
and once casually. Let them talk until the relationship goes slightly
positive.
Once all eight relationships are in the green the "Reunite the Band" objective
will be complete, earning an 8 point reward.
----------------------------------
5.12.12 Create the Perfect Magazine
----------------------------------
In order to publish the perfect issue you need a 4.5 Bunny Heads quality
issue. The best you're likely to get for an article is 3 Bunny Heads, and the
best for a pictorial will be 3.5 Bunny Heads, use your best photographer and
journalist to get those when their drives are maxed. To get the 4.5 average
the other four components need to be five heads in quality.
Jo Jo's interview and Yeardley's essay should both have been 5 Bunny Heads.
If not you'll need to get the content elsewhere, make sure the participants
drives are maxed.
That leaves the cover and centerfolds, use you best photograph with the most
famous celebrity and playmate. Max their drives before the shoots.
Publish the 4.5 Bunny Head issue once you're gathered sufficient content.
This completes the "Create the Perfect Magazine" objective earning a 15 point
reward. This reward may include a bonus for publishing Jo Jo's interview and
Yeardley's essay.
Ken informs me that "Nina Keeper will write your biography and get 10 point
when you get a high relationship with her."
Nina only has four fame stars so its easy to overlook her at this point of the
game.
-----------------------------
5.12.14 Hold Anniversary Party
-----------------------------
While its not necessary, you should leave this objective to the last.
Save before throwing this party as the game will be over when the party ends,
if you want to continue publishing magazine in this save game.
Here you'll get to meet some of the important figures from throughout the game
again.
End the party to complete the "Hold Anniversary Party" Objective for a 7 point
reward.
The game tell you you've earned a 10000 point reward for finishing the final
mission, but there's no way to access these point.
Enjoy the inspirational speech by Hef and watch the credits. PS2 players can
go on to the bonus missions that I'll be unable to cover, please refer to the
guide by VampireHorde for assistance on the bonus missions.

6. Free Form Overview
******************************************************************************
As an alternative to the mission mode you can choose to start a new game in
Free Form mode.
You have two choice for free form play: Starter Mansion and Holmby Hills.
The Starter Mansion scenario gives you $100,000 to begin with and completed
Main and Upper Mansion.
The Holmby Hills scenario gives you $300,000 to begin with but only give you a
one room house. You'll need to do some building before you can start on the
objectives here. Put down some walls to expand the mansion and purchase
necessary items like a bar, seating, stereo, bookcase and/or other profession
development items, and most importantly a staircase to create the upper
mansion. A bed, dresser, and a staff desk are essential for the upper
mansion.
============================
6.2 Input from your advisers
============================
Occasionally Jenny or Dick will interrupt asking you if you want to help
someone out, to which you should agree unless it will leave you critically
short on funds. Other interrupts will mention changes in the market, or a
current hot (or not) content provider. Other occurrences may include staff
training or major shifts in their demographic interests.
========================
6.3 Free Form Objectives
========================
Like in mission mode there are objectives to be met. The are less intricate
that the mission mode objective fall into a few categories: Publishing,
Circulation, Fame, and Relationships.
This table gives the rewards for filling up Hef's fames stars by throwing
parties, selling magazine, and going along with random events that boost your
fame. Every 2000 points of fame is the equivalent of one star.
Fame Reward
2000 Massage Table
4000 Regency Rug
6000 Round Bed
8000 Brass Bed
10000 50 Points
----------------------------
6.3.3 Circulation Objectives
----------------------------
Hit x Circulation
-------------------
This table gives the reward for selling a target number of copies of a single
issue. The rewards a giving only in the first month they are reached.
The next target 1,000,000, appears to either unattainable due to a glitch
where I'm unable to fill the highest demographic completely. See "6.4
Financial data and commentary on my free form attempt" for my comments on
this.
You'll need to max out every single demographic category to have any chance at
reaching 1 million. You'll also need to be at max fame.
I managed to max out all of the demographics by using staff I've had for about
40 months and a batch of girlfriends and a playmate for 15 months. They have
been invited to most of the parties since them to maximize their conversation
time to build up their demographic interests so they'll provide better
content.
After making an archival save, I get a centerfold from the playmate, and a
cover shoot and interview from two of the girlfriend. I try to target the
higher gap with and essay. If this goes well there's three or four
demographics that still have some potential left. I can eventual fill these
after requesting several articles and pictorials from my long term staff.
6.3.4.1 Romantic Objectives
---------------------------
Develop an Intimate Romance
---------------------------
Reward: 0 points (it's own reward)
Develop a strong romantic relationship with a woman.
Get a Girlfriend
----------------
Reward: 0 points (it's own reward)
Develop a strong romantic relationship with a woman and ask her to be your
girlfriend.
Get 4 Girlfriends
------------------
Reward: Obsession
Develop a strong romantic relationship with 4 women and ask them to be your
girlfriends. You'll need at least 6000 fames (three stars) to get the fourth
one to accept.
Get 10 Friends
--------------
Reward: Regency Sofa
Get 10 celebrities to join you inner circle. If you make one into your
girlfriend she no longer counts towards the total.
6.3.4.3 Professional Objectives
--------------------------------
Sign a Contract
---------------
Reward: Michaelangelo
Develop a strong professional relationship with someone and get them to sign a
contract.
=========================================================
6.4 Financial data and commentary on my free form attempt
=========================================================
I managed to fill up all five stars between issue 12 and 13
using the following prices and ad percentages, depending on your content
quality and demographic bonuses you may experience different results. I was
choosing my content to the three or four highest demographics.
The remain 1606 fame points would have be earned from parties and random
events. I held 8 or 9 successful parties and if ask to help in a random event
I said yes always.
The sales potential for a month increases with your fame, if you suffer a fame
decrease your sales potential will be much lower, be careful not to set your
prices and ad percentage to high to avoid this.
Continuing the Price and Ad percentage table from the Fame Objectives,
providing content for the highest three or four demographics:
At this point I realize the total sales potential wasn't increasing just
shifting between the demographics. So I've shifted my strategy to targeting a
single demographic exclusively for every issue, hoping max it out every time
and push up of the other downward. For this I choose sexuality, the three
previous playmates will be able to provide all of the content and they all
seem to have sexuality as one of there likes, providing sustainable source of
content.
26 2 20 1191 764 (Humor and sexuality maxed, both decline)
27 2 15 959 702 (sexuality maxed, declines)
However it quickly became apparent that the sexuality market was still moving
downward. However with the demographic saturated I was able to focus the
article and pictorial on other demographics. With both price and ad set to
minimum I was able to set to minimum I was able to hit 875K (As $2 and 15% met
the 850 objective I went with that for the additional money). If it had been
the peak demographic at the time instead of midrange I expect I could of hit
900+
28 2 15 1163 852
I'll revert to my original strategy until sexuality seems to be on the rise
again.
At this point the staffs strengthening demographic interests are keeping me
about 800K be month. (Is probably safe to push the price and ad percent higher
to increase profits, as long as you sell about 550K or more issues your
shouldn't loose fame)
An opportunity presented itself in month 36. I got outstanding
pictorials and articles which came close to maxing several demographics.
A decent centerfold, cover, and a mediocre interview left my with significant
gaps in only two demographics. After a bit of talking, and training the
intelligence of my chosen essayist who was only strong in one of the two
categories I requested an essay in the remaining demographic that he was
weaker in. The demographic he was strong it came along for the ride
[after a lot of cheap, save and reload]. With price and ad content at a
minimum I broke the elusive 900K barrier. (I might have made 950 if the
tech demographic hadn't taken a mid month tumble.)
36 1 10 704 903
I've decided to replace all of my girlfriends with a fresh batch and add a
permanent Playmate to the staff to build up their demographic interests, they
will be invited to most parties to increase the time they are able to talk.
While I wait I'll bump up the price and ad content for more revenue.
37 3 20 1636 839
38 3 20 1627 834
39 3 20 1596 818
40 3 20 1698 871 (I could have hit 916K at $1 and 10%)
41 3 20 1670 856
42 3 20 1676 859
[As an experiment, I tested an issue with content from the girlfriends, at $1
and 10% it had a 960K, a substantial improvement over my previous best.]
43 3 20 1622 832
44 3 20 1641 841
[A spike in a demographic prompted another test with the girlfriends, 975K
this time, so close and yet so far.]
[985K testing the girlfriends content after 14 months of training, all of the
demographics looked maxed to me, although one visibly decrease going from $1
to $2 so there may have be some remaining potential there.]
51 3 20 1711 877 [Best nonlongterm girlfriend result, 925K
potential, in spite of a demographic dip.]
Testing the girlfriends again at this point gets me to 990K, only one
demographic has a visible change going for $1 to $2 at 10%, the other eight
still haven't appeared to have decreased to $3 and 20%.
52 3 20 1683 863
53 3 20 1680 861
I check a girlfriend content issue again, 992K this time, this time its the
10% to 15% transition that results in a noticeable decrease in the demographic
bars.
54 3 20 1623 832
55 3 20 1654 848
Another check of the girlfriend content, 992K again this time at $1 and 10%
992,465 to be exact. This time the bars still appear to be saturated at $3 and
20%, so I try publishing at those setting as an experiment, still 992,465.
I've obviously saturated all of the demographics and have still fallen short
of
the 1 million mark.
So with content with girlfriend and a playmate who've been around for 19
months and staff that have been around for at least 43, I've been able to
completely saturate the entire market.
There is little value in continuing with the financial details at this point.
POSSIBLE GLITCH
---------------
I've noticed that I have a thicker than normal border at the top of my
highest demographic when its saturated. Testing my last mission mode save an
saturated the highest demographic does not show the save behavior. I
conclude that I'm prevented from reaching 1 million due to a glitch.

7. Character Types and Editing
******************************************************************************
===================
7.1 Character Types
===================
The icons by the Celebrities name indicate their area of employment:
Tennis: Sport Figure

the game. Notable exceptions are several plot critical characters as well as
the big name celebrities.
There are three subscreens the character editor, the Feature Editor, the
Wardrobe Editor, and the Name Editor.
The Feature Editor changes the appearance of a character. Female characters
have 2 body types, 25 skin colors, 4 face types, 5 breast sizes, and 20 hair
styles to choose from. Male characters have 2 body types, 25 skin colors, 4
face types, 8 beard types, and 15 hair styles to choose from. The hair styles

red, green, and blue levels to any 27 different levels each.
The Wardrobe Editor allows you to change a characters clothes. I cover this
in more detail in the next section.
The Name Editor allows you to change a character name. The name can be up to
17 characters long. You're unable to use numbers in the name, but do have
several accented characters to choose from as well a few other special
characters.
You can also go into the Hef Screen and use edit to change Hef's clothing
without needing to go back to the dresser in the upper mansion. Hef's
features and name can't be changed.
Hef can change into a limited set of outfit by activating a dresser:
Formal Wear
Swimwear
Lounge Wear
Sports
Casual Wear
If you edit Hef from the Hef Screen you'll discover some addition clothing
items. You also don't need to go all the way to the upper mansion if you
want to change back into what you were wearing after a dip in the pool or
working out on some exercise equipments.

9.3 Mansion Activities (Interacting with Items)
======================
Many of the items that can be purchased can be interacted will by Hef and
other characters.
Getting Drunk (The Bar)
-----------------------
Save before doing this. Get a drink four times from a bar. Hef will be
stumbling about.
Asking someone to use a bar will greatly improve there entertainment drive.
To many drinks will get them drunk as well which will likely cause a negative
impact to relationships if they converse which anyone.
Sitting Down (Chairs and Sofas)
-------------------------------
While Hef can sit in any of the various chairs and sofas, there is no benefit
to doing so. However, asking another person use on of these will fill their
leisure drives in a few seconds.
The sofas and some of the chairs may come into play in a photo shoot.
Zen and the Art of Playboy (or Meditating at the Indoor Waterfall)
------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Paul informs me doesn't appear in the PS2 version.
The indoor waterfall is the most expensive item you can buy for the mansion at
$1 Million. It's worth every penny of that. Telling someone to use this
boosts all six of their drives, and their mood as well. The is also a small
increase to intelligence and charm. All it take to get someone whose hit rock
bottom on their mood and drives back up to full is four sessions at the indoor
waterfall.
A great conversation piece for parties!
Watching TV
-----------
The various Televisions sets available offer a choice of three channels: a
sports channel, a news channel, and the Playboy channel. The ones with Xboxs
also have a play console options. Using the TV boosts the leisure drive.
Dancing
-------
People are able to Dance at the various stereos and on the clubhouse dance
floor. The entertainment and professional development driving are satisfied
and a small increase to physique is enjoyed.
Being a DJ
----------
You can take on the role of DJ when using the DJ station at the clubhouse.
Asking others to do so increases the Entertainment, Professional Development,
and Charm.
Food (Cooking and Eating)
----
Eating food at the food carts and backyard grill satisfies the entertainment
drive. If you tell someone to use the grill when there's no food available
they will cook some, boosting their professional drives and intelligence.
Admiring Art
------------
The various paintings can be viewed to boost the professional development
drive and increase intelligence.
Games (Single Player)
-----
The various video games, pinball machines, and the slot machine all boost the
entertainment drives. Some special games may give other bonuses.
Racer XXX
---------
A person sits down to play this game so they get the added benefit of a boost
to leisure as well as the entertainment drive.
Games (Two Player)
------------------
Entertain and the casual drive are raised by most of the two player games:
Billiards, Cards, Foosball, and Airhockey.
Some other two player games have other effects.
Playing Backgammon
------------------
Playing Backgammon raises the professional drive and the casual drive.
Intelligence is also increased.
Ultra Dance Extreme
-------------------
For one or two people this clubhouse game boosts entertainment and
professional development, and increases physique and intelligence.
Working Out
-----------
The professional development drive and physique are raise by using the various
piece of exercise equipment: Jump Rope, Treadmill, Weight Set, and Trampoline.
The trampoline also boost the entertainment drive.
The Weight Set seems to provide the greatest benefit to physique, get you're
models to using it as much as possible (or until physique is maxed).
Soaking in the hot tub
----------------------
A relaxing soak in the hot tub boosts the leisure drive.
The swimming pool
-----------------
The pool basket by the pool can be used to inflate a pool float that raised
the leisure drive.
The diving board can be using to dive into the deep end but provides no
benefits.
(The grotto area comes with a couple of couches and a hot tub)
Changing Clothes
----------------
People will randomly pick an outfit from a dresser in the Upper Mansion. No
other benefits are received.
Bird Watching/Feeding
---------------------
Watching or feeding the flamingo, parrot, and peacock in the pool area boosts
the entertainment drive.
Baths and Showers
-----------------
Using the Baths and Showers raises the leisure drive.
Bookshelves and Bookcases
-------------------------
You can read a book or examine a Playboy publication at the various
bookshelves
available. These boost the profession development drive and increase
intelligence.
Musical Instruments
-------------------
The pipe organ and baby grand piano are available to be played. Both raise
Leisure and Professional Development. A small increase to charm may be had as
well.
