Intro

My first FAQs, and I believe it shows it. But presentation aside, I hope it
will at least serve it's purpose.

While I admit this game could be better, I actually enjoyed it. If nothing
else, it's worth a play-through just to hear more classic lines from Jack
Sparrow (there's plenty) voiced by the only person who could do him justice,
Johnny Depp.

But enough of that...this guide is meant to help find the map pieces hidden
throughout the cleverly titled levels of the game. There's one in each, adding
up to 24. Every four in a row you collect unlocks production slideshows
(concept art, storyboards, motion capture, etc) which can be viewed by choosing
Unlockable Content in the "map screen". I'd have preferred movie clips or
cheats...but ah well. It is also intended to help find the two sword upgrades
in the game. Yes, there are only two, and neither of them really make much
difference, as the enemies take increasingly more damage to defeat, anyway.

*NOTES*
It is important that you not only uncover the map pieces, but actually collect
them. I found several times that in my haste, I'd accidentally leave a piece
floating in its place after uncovering it, and have to repeat the level. Also,
you must complete the level and save your game after finding a map piece for it
to register, even if you have already completed that level. And finally...there
are no plot spoilers within this guide. There are mild level spoilers as
needed, but that is all.

----------
Map Pieces
----------

Panama
------

P01 - The Trouble With Treasure

Hands down the easiest map piece in the game. As the level progresses, you'll
see enemy soldiers standing around a treasure chest with the map floating in
front of them. Just grab the piece after regaining control of your characters.

Port Royal
----------

P02 - The Hero Of Port Royal

After the first couple groups of enemies, you will come to an area with a fence
blocking your path to the left (which gets blown up soon enough so you may
continue on) and a well to the right. Approach the well and press circle when
prompted to play the "mini-game" and turn the crank. You will bring up a
British soldier, and he will give you the map piece.

P03 - Freeing Fort Charles

After helping the villagers escape through the gates and hopping over the wall,
you will see a large area with a fire in the center up ahead. On the left wall
of this area, you should see a small alcove with various barrels and boxes
inside, and just to the right of this a cracked wall. Use one of the flammable
barrels strewn around the area on this cracked wall. The map piece is in the
treasure chest that's revealed.

P04 - Royal Damsel, Jack's Distress

After escaping Elizabeth's bedroom, head to the right. You should see a
bookshelf on the wall. Press circle when prompted and complete what the game's
manual calls a mini-game to reveal a chest. The map piece is inside.

Spanish Main
------------

P05 - The Bigger The Boat...

Once given the objective to cut the life boats loose, head up the stairs to the
right of the level. At the top of the stairs furthest from the camera is a
flammable barrel. Pick it up and take it to the tall, seemingly invincible box
next to the stairs closest to the camera on the left side of the level. Use the
barrel to destroy the box and collect your map piece.

P06 - Silver Mine, Cloudy Lining

On the second level of the mines (after freeing the two miners and having them
raise you on the platform) you will find another mine cart. There are three
switches, and each must be triggered once in order to have the cart go in the
correct direction. Once you have brought the cart to the pile of debris at the
very end (to the left of the actual exit of the area), use Jack's grog bombs or
flame sword to destroy the cart and blow up the debris. The map piece is in the
treasure chest in the area you just opened.

Tortuga
-------

P07 - Old Friends And Old Fiends

After defeating the executioner, head down the path opened up. At the fork in
the road, go left. You should see a covered well in the center of a small area
at the end of this path. On the right side of the path (just before the well
area) is a semi-hidden flammable barrel. Use it to blow the covering off of the
well and collect your map piece.

P08 - Trial By Tavern

Probably the least obvious of all the map pieces. In the first area of the
level, there are tables with six unlit candles on top of them. Use Jack's grog
bombs to light each candle. The map piece will appear in the center of the
area.

Formosa
-------

P09 - Formosa Fling

When you make it to the point where you have to defeat Madame Tang, you should
see merchant booths lining the area. These can be destroyed. One of them
contains the map piece.

P10 - Temple Terror

Proceed through the level until you enter a room with a bridge in the center,
and breakable objects lining the wall. Destroy every object that you can
(including the dishes hanging on the wall), and the map piece will appear in
the center of the bridge.

Escaping Tortuga
----------------

P11 - Stop Blowing Holes In My Ship

After breaking through the window and landing on the dock-type area, you should
see a flammable barrel to your right. First take care of the enemies on the
platforms blocking your path, and then carry the flammable barrel to the tall,
seemingly invincible box against the wall (past where the platforms were). Use
it to destroy the box and claim your map piece.

P12 - Sizing Up Trouble

This one was a bit of a thinker. Fight Pequeno normally until he begins
climbing the walls during his final attack pattern. This prompts flammable
barrels to begin appearing around the area. You will have to knock him off of
the wall with a barrel three times. Upon the third time, he drops the map
piece.

Cursed Glacier
--------------

P13 - Viking Landing

In the area where you fight the viking king, there is a tall, seemingly
invincible box. There is also a flammable barrel just before this area. Use it
to destroy the box and claim your map piece.

P14 - From Frozen To Freedom

Proceed through the level until you come across a mammoth frozen in the wall,
along with a map piece. Use either Jack's grog bombs or his flame sword attack
on this area to obtain the map piece.

Isla De Muerta
--------------

P15 - The Damsel And The Dead

After destroying the cannons with the boulder, return to the main path. You
should see an alcove to your left, and a flammable barrel up ahead. Grab the
flammable barrel and use it on the tall, seemingly invincible box in the
alcove. Claim your map piece.

Nassau
------

P16 - Sacked Without A Shot

Upon entering the dock area, a cut scene plays in which the bad guys fire
cannons at you, blocking your path back to the beginning of the level. In doing
this, they also reveal the map piece. Proceed through the level until you find
another well-villager mini-game. You should find a flammable barrel in this
area. Use the barrel on the fence to the right of this area to open up a path
back to the beginning of the level. Return to the docks to claim your map
piece.

P17 - Where There's Fire, There's Blacksmoke

Another tricky one. As you proceed through the level, be on the lookout for
buoys floating in the water just to the side of the pier. There are five in
all. Lock on and use Jack's grog bombs on each to make the map piece appear in
the center of the path just before you board the ship to fight Blacksmoke.

The Black Pearl
---------------

P18 - Prisoners Of The Pearl

As soon as the level starts, you should notice a treasure chest inside the
locked cell to your right. Proceed through the level until you finally unlock
the cell and begin your second fight with Mallot. Enter the cell and open the
chest to claim the map piece.

P19 - Broadsides

After boarding the Black Pearl, use the lever to your right to drop the
flammable barrels. Carry one of the barrels up the steps furthest from the
camera, and use it to destroy the tall, seemingly invincible box you find at
the top. The map piece is inside.

Rum Island
----------

P20 - Sand, Sky, Rum, And Gold

Proceed through the level until you see an alcove containing a treasure chest
on your left, blocked by vines. Cut through the vines and open the chest to
find the map piece.

Return To Isla De Muerta
------------------------

P21 - Dauntless Derring-Do

After the level starts, run to the left, down the stairs furthest from the
camera. Just ahead you should see a British soldier hanging off of the "plank".
Run out onto the plank and press circle when prompted. Play the mini-game to
save the soldier and the map piece will appear.

P22 - Pirates Cursed And Even Worse

Head up the cliff at the start of the level and notice the chest to the left
blocked by two large rocks. After using the cannon to clear the path up ahead,
grab one of the flammable barrels and run back to the chest. Use the barrel to
destroy the two large rocks and open the chest to reveal the map piece.

P23 - The Last Shot

Proceed through the level until you use a boulder to create a path that leads
back to the start of the level. You will notice that to the left of the large
fire there is now a small area open with a treasure chest inside. Open the
chest to claim the map piece.

Farewell To Panama
------------------

P24 - Escaping The Truth

After defeating the Chaves Brothers and opening the door to the fort, you
should see a flammable barrel up ahead to your right. Grab it and quickly run
all the way across the pier (ignore the right turn) to find a small alcove on
the other side of the fort which holds a tall, seemingly invincible box. Use
the barrel to destroy the box and claim the final map piece.

Congratulations! You now have all 24 map pieces, and access to six rather
unrewarding slideshows. But hey, at least you have that sense of
accomplishment...right?

--------------
Sword Upgrades
--------------

Formosa
-------

SU1 - Temple Terror

In the second area of the level where enemies jump through the paper walls,
look along the left wall. The second paper panel will disappear once the enemy
has jumped through, revealing the chest with the sword upgrade.

Rum Island
----------

SU2 - Sand, Sky, Rum, And Gold

When you get to the area where the man-eating plants appear, head to the right
a bit to find a small alcove blocked by vines. Cut through the vines and open
the treasure chest to find the second and final sword upgrade.

And there you go. Neither upgrades do much, and they don't look very
spectacular, either. They seem like the same sword to me, save for the
different "enchantments" put on the blade.

*CONSTRUCTIVE* criticism welcomed. Please do not e-mail or instant message me
asking for detailed tips or strategies on the game. It was a rental, and I'm
not spending five bucks again just to test a theory. Please also refrain from
asking about the controls for the PC version. I played the PS2 version, and I
am not a PC gamer in the first place.

CJayC - for hosting GameFAQs.com, one of my homes away from home.

Disney - for creating the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise. They are oddly
left out of the credits for this game...though Buena Vista is not.
Maybe they didn't want to be attached to a game where you "kill"
        people.

spawn_of_satan18 - for correcting me on the number of bouys in the
                  Blacksmoke level.

nickheap - for correcting me on how to obtain the Viking Landing map piece.
