VERSION HISTORY
1.0- My first try. (8/9/03)
1.3- A few typos that needed to be fixed and the TP mat information was added.
(9/24/03)
2.0- A massive overhaul has been done to this FAQ. I added in info on units
and I also added a new section on where to find all these wonderful
items.(2/20/04)
Future- One day I might put FINAL on my FAQ but work is never done. I will
always find things that need to be changed or added.
Introduction:
Well, this is my first FAQ and I wanted it to be on something that I like doing
which is stat maxing. I have played many RPG's and have a select few that I
love. Phantasy Star Online is one of those RPG's. I am making this FAQ
because I have read the other Stat Maxing FAQs and did not think they
helped that much. So, this guide is a comprhensive guide on the stats of all
characters and how to max them. All the math is done and I will even make some
suggestions on what I feel constitute as a well maxed character. Hope you like
it!!
Part I: Characters and Descriptions
There are 12 character classes. Each one has a job class and a species. I will
list them from Hunter to Force and in the same manner that they are listed

Part II: "Highest Stats" Awards
Before all this math etc. I thought that some people might just want to know
who has the best in each stat. Some people (like me) have to have a specific
stat no matter what game we play. This will show you who has what.
Highest HP: RAcast (2214 HP)
Highest ATP: HUcast (1639 ATP)
Highest DFP: RAcaseal (688 DFP)
Highest MST/TP: FOneweral (1750 MST)
Highest ATA: RAmar (249 ATA)
Highest EVP: RAmarl (900 EVP)
Part III: What You Use to Max Your Stats
There are certain items and equipment in this game that can raise your stats.
Some raise the overall stat and some raise the base. Here is a simple diagram
to understand where the base and max stats are listed in you start menu.
OVERALL(BASE)
As you can see base is the stat in the (). That is the stat that we want to
raise with this guide. The items that you will use are first and foremost
the materials which will from here on be called mats.
Mats come in differnt types for each stat. None of them can go past the user
limit of materials or help you go over the stats set limit.
HP Mat: Raises HP 2 points.
TP Mat: Raises TP 2 points. (Can only be obtained from the "Today's Rate"
Quest, appears in Challenge mode)
Power Mat: Raises ATP 2 points.
Defense Mat: Raises DFP 2 points.
Mind Mat: Raises MST 2 points.
Evade Mat: Raises EVP 2 points.
Luck Mat: Raises LCK 2 points.
The only stat that doesn't have a mat to go with it is ATA. Back in v1&2 they
had Hit Mats but since then they have vanished from PSO. So, that means that
the only way to really raise it up is with a MAG.
A MAG is a little pet that floats over your shoulder or back. You get them
starting at lv. 5. You can raise them all the way to 200. By raising one of
their stats you can not only lv them up but you can raise your base stats.
The stats are as follows:
IQ: Max is 200, tells how often your MAG will activate special ability.
SYNCHRO: Max is 120%, tells how fast your PB gauge fills.
DEF: Max is 200. 1 point on MAG equals 1 point DFP on character.
POW: Max is 195. 1 point on MAG equals 2 points ATP on character.
DEX: Max is 195. 2 points on MAG equals 1 point ATA on character.
MIND: Max is 195. 1 point on MAG equals 2 points MST on character.
Your MAG will start out with 5 in the DEF stat. So, then you have 195 more lvs
to decide what other stats you want to raise. In this guide I use mats and
your MAG to help build you into a maxed character. I do know that there are
items that raise the base stats that are neither mats or MAGs. They are units.
I will discuss them later on in the topic under: Other Items that can be used
in stat maxing.
Part IV: Where to Find Items to Max Your Stats
Now I bet some people are thinking. Wow! stat maxing sounds simple. I just need
to give them a certain amount of this and that. Well, it sounds easier then it
is. First, you need to find the items that allow you to raise your stats. This
can be a long and grueling process and that is why it is almost always easier
to max your 2nd, 3rd etc. character.
Mats can be found everywhere except Normal Forest. All you need to do is pick
them up. They are in a green container. The rarest mats to find are Luck mats,
the easiest (at least in my experience) are Defense Mats. TP mats are the only
exception to this. They can only be gotten from the "Today's Rate" Guild Quest
online. You also get to use them in Challenge mode but the effect is not
permenent when you recieve the TP mats in Challenge mode.
Part V: Max Stats & Base Max Stats
Now for the major part of this FAQ. The stats. First the stats and what they
are. Then a small explanation on why you should max them or even think about
doing so.
HP(Health Points):
These are basic in almost every RPG known. If this stat ever gets to 0 you
die.
TP(Technique Points):
This stat is for using techniques. It will slowly diminsh as you use spells or
the Spirit ability on Weapons. When it hits 0 you can't use techs or Spirit.
ATP(Attack Power):
This stat determines how much damage your weapon attacks will do. The higher
this stat the greater damage your attack will do.
DFP(Defense Power):
This stat determines damage that you are able to take from physical attacks.
The higher this stat gets the less damage you'll take. You will also stop
falling down from attacks after you get enough DFP.
MST(Mental Strength):
Mental Strength is what gives you TP (Technique Points) and makes your spells
do more damage. The higher this stat is the more TP you'll have and the
stronger your spells will be.
ATA(Attack Accuracy):
This stat determines if your physical attack will hit or not. If you have more
you have a better probability to hit the target with you weapon.
EVP(Evasion Power):
Evasion Power is used to evade attacks or dodge them. You block them with your
shield. This makes you take no damage. The higher the EVP the less likely that
you will be hit by a physical attack.
LCK(Luck):
Luck is used to tell critical hit ratio ONLY. You can tell when your attack
was critical because it makes a louder, sharper noise and does about double
damage from you normal attack.
Now why should you spend time maxing these stats. Well it's really quite
simple. If a stat is higher your character will do better. So, you are
basically just trying to make your character do the best he/she can.
Here is a list of the characters and their base stats at level 200 as well
their potetial max stats at 200. Another thing to say is about maxing HP and
TP. HP can be maxed despite what many guides say. It's max is simply using all
125 HP mats. TP is maxed by using enough mind mats to max MST without a
MAG or weapons and using all 125 TP mats. TP mats are only avliable to use
in the "Today's Rate" Quest. They appear in Challenge mode but you can't keep
the effects from Challenge mode. This means TP is a non maxable stat. So,
just work on getting it as high as you think you will want it by lv. 200.

Part VI: How to Best Max Your Character
I have a ceratin philosophy when it comes to maxing a character. A lot of
people think if a Force has weak defense then it is best to make them have
higher defense. This strategy does not work that often. One is best reserved
to making your character better at what he/she is already good at. There by
making them stronger and over coming their weaknesses. So, my stat maxing is
not revloved around really making the character well balanced in stats so they
are somewhat good at everything, but rather to make them good at what they
were made to do. Hunters were ment to do tons of damage with attacks while
Forces support and cast spells that blow the enemies away and Rangers can
come in with a spread and mechs and own things while not taking too much
damage. So, here is what I believe to be the best stats with respects to my
beliefs in character development. I am hoping you understand what I put
down in the What You Use to Max Your Stats section. If you need to know
why the chart looks this way just refer to the section on What You Use to
Max Your Stats. This should explain my charts. Enjoy!
Hunter stat maxing tips:
Hunters tend to have the smallest gap between their base and max stats. On
Hunters you need LCK maxed, so they do critical hits often, as well as ATP
and ATA. This way you can attack and be killing everything in a 3-hit combo
or less. The leftover mats and stats on your MAG should go to DFP and then
MST or EVP. MST on hunters gets high enough for them to do what they were
ment to really do which is heal and give themselves support when they need
it. HUnewerals get the lv 20 techs so they can do decent damage with spells
too. Also, make sure you get a Redria so that you can find a God/Battle.

On the HUmars I didn't feel a real need to raise their MST. They only need it
for Resta etc. The HUmar is built with ATP, DFP, ATA, and LCK maxed. With those
stats and maybe a nice Force to cast Shifta & Deband you can really do some
damage.

I hated trying to max this class. So, I got her ATP, DFP and LCK maxed. Her ATA

WOW this guy has a ton of ATP. I couldn't even max it without dropping his ATA

You know Androids are really lucky they don't have MST to worry about. HUcaseal
has ATP, ATA and LCK maxed and then I built up her DFP some. I want to make
sure to say that this is how I would build these characters some people want
maxed DFP so you could take from the ATP. I wouldn't take from the other two
because you always need more ATA and LCK will prove to be invaluable when its
maxed. This droid also has the fastest attack speed in the game. She is a
speedy powerhouse. 'Nough said. Thanks to Wulfson for improved design.
(Max trap potential= 24 Damage, 22 Freeze, 22 Confuse)
Ranger stat maxing tips:
This class is similar to the Hunter in that you want ATP, ATA and LCK maxed.
This allows them to do the most damage they can. Then you can put the leftovers
into DFP, MST and EVP. This class has some really high stats. They are all
built strong and in my opinion Rangers get some of the best weapons in
the game i.e. Spread Needle, Yas 9000, Snow Queen. God/Battles makes this class
good too but the best ID seems to be either Purplenum or Greenill because they
find these good weapons that the Rangers can use.

You know Humans are really nice to try and max because they have 250 mats.
RAmar can get all but MST and EVP. He doesn't really need either because of
what they were supposed to do. They attack and heal themselves. I like RAmars
better then HUmars because RAmars get Shifta & Deband. Even though they're lv15
they still help. This guy also has the highest ATA in the game.

RAmarl gets the highest EVP in the game but her 798 EVP is plenty. You can max
all her stats but MST and EVP but MST gets fairly close because they have it
really high already. This is why Humans are so nice to max and are generally an
easier class to start the game with due to their balance. They are still good
though even if this is your 5th character. Best of all RAmarl's have lv20 techs.

I know some people will want a little more DFP but he will end up with 514 which
is enough to survive attacks. Added on to this is the highest HP in the game.
So, with his maxed ATP, ATA and LCK you can really do damage and not need to
worry about taking too much damage. Oh yeah and this Ranger has the highest ATP
of the Ranger class so he will be doing some nice damage with spreads.

This little Droid girl is a defesive powerhouse and doesn't need much more in
the DFP area but you can afford to give her some. If you want you can always
tag some of the mats onto her EVP. I maxed her ATP, ATA, LCK. She's a
defensive RAcast. She also gets better armors then RAcast (Love Heart, Safety
Heart).
(Max trap potential= 30 Damage, 20 Freeze, 24 Confuse)
Force stat maxing tips:
Forces first of all need the MST maxed. That should be the first stat you go
for above all else. It is what makes a Force a Force. Then you should work on
DFP because their ATP is useless (not the humans though but they can use more
mats). So, strive to get MST and then DFP then get what you want. Best ID here
in my opinion is almost a tie between Redria and Pinkal. I give the edge to
Pinkal because they were made as a Force ID in that they find high level techs
fairly often and you can get quite a few of the best Force weapons on this ID.

FOmar is almost exactly like FOmarl in terms of stat maxing. His ATP is
just much higher. So, to make up for this you just drop EVP and some LCK. He
will still be doing good damage and FOmar is the one true jack-of-all-trades
in this game which is why I call him the Red Mage.

My FOnewm has DFP and MST maxed and I gave him more ATA and ATP instead of
putting it onto EVP. I maxed this FOnewm's MST, DFP and EVP. All the little
small numbers on POW and Luck were just leftovers that I could do anything
with so I just filled it out. Those 3 stats are all you really need to
make him a nuking spell machine.

This girl is hard to max. I just maxed her MST because that is what she needs
most to do her spells, and her DFP because she needs to be able to survive
being hit with the lowest HP total in the game. The leftovers were put onto
her EVP becasue she does have the 2nd highest EVP in the game so I figure get
her closer to that and try to help her defensively.
Part VII: Other Items That Can Be Used in Stat Maxing
There are other items besides mats and MAGs that can be used in stat maxing. I
however do not like to use them. I like to have my unit spots open for items
like Cure/Shock or Resist/Blizzard for Falz. If you do want to max all stats
with using units I will provide how much each unit lets you rasie the stat.
Here:
Digger/HP: Raises Max HP by 10.
General/HP: Raises Max HP by 20.

Let it be known that I do not advocate trying to get and keep your stats
high with units. I consider it almost a waste because I know that a
bad status effect can make all those high stats mean nothing so you
are better off putting cure units and Resist units to block elements
and let us not forget about the wonderful God/Battle that makes you
attack faster. I'm not saying that stat raising units are useless. I
used them when building up my character and other characters. They
allow you to equip that weapon or use that tech disk a little sooner.
That to me is the purpose of the stat raising units. But you may use
them as you see fit. That is the beauty of this game. You can make
your character how you want them to be.
Part VIII: Questions and Troubleshooting
Q: I'm having a hard time trying to build your perfect stats, any tips?
A: My stats are just suggestions. It is a lot harder to do this on your first
character then your second or third. But if you really want to max it on your
first try then you should really concentrate on your MAG. This is something
you can do as long as you have money. Get your ATA up first to hit stuff and
then ATP etc. Forces only really need MST and techs so concentrate on looking
for those. If any friends you know found some mats they don't need ask for them
and hope they are nice.
Q: I love MAGs and want to get a fourth evolution Rati for my Ranger, any help?
A: I must say that I don't know MAGs that well. If you really like MAGs then
build them. This game was designed so that you are in control. I play this game
to make my characters Gods not to get all the MAGs.
Q: I think I messed up on my RAmar and gave him 1 to many Power Mats help?!!!
A: My advice is that if you want to follow my FAQ that closely then write on a
piece of paper and keep tally marks till you get to the number. If you did mess
up you can always just change the MAG design. These things aren't set in stone.
Q: I don't like having no DFP on my RAcast. Your FAQ sucks!
A: These are suggestions. I have made that very clear to everyone. If you
don't like the way I do something then change it. I have provided info so that
you can do what you want to their stats.
Q: I found another way to put fewer units on my character and still max stats!?
A: Good Job. If you do find a better way then by all means tell me. I will
make the changes and give you full credit. My e-mail and AIM are at the bottom
should you want to contact me.
Part XI: Thanks etc.
Well, this FAQ is over and I have people and sites etc. that I want to thank.
First, I would like to thank GameFAQs. I love this site and it truly brings
gamers together. I want to thank www.pso-world.com for the stat info on base
and max stats as well as the class info in general. I'll thank the calculator
on my computer for helping me do the math. I want to thank Sonic Team and
Sega for bringing this holy grail of a game to us, the public. I also want to
thank the posters who informed me about how you could get TP mats through
the "Today's Rate" quest. I haven't been online in a while so that was a
big help. Lastly, I want to thank the players: Kodak, Seymour, Ashendark,
Tigereye, and WILL. You guys made the game worth playing, without you guys
I would never have gotten Rift to 200. I hope all goes well in all games you
guys play. Thanks!
If anyone has an extreme desire to meet me online I no longer have an HL but
I plan to get one again once Kodak is in his 190's. Or when I'm bored of the
outside world. My character is:
Rift FOnewm Lv.200 Pinkal
I have other characters I'm working on and I will post them when they reach
200. Besides Rift is how everyone knows me.
Good Hunting!
