I. Introduction
Welcome to the Player Rating FAQ, written by Rashidi. The purpose of
this FAQ is to update the ratings of the players in the game, to make
them as accurate as possible, as well as to represent what they
accomplished in the 2002-2003 season, and to educate others on the NBA.
Also, I must make something clear. I have since edited players after
posting them on the initial Player Rating FAQ topic. I have not posted
all the ratings changes on the topic, so though you may have used
changes from the topic, those changes may or may not be the same. I'd
suggest checking all the players to see if they match yours. I didn't
edit many players, so it shouldn't be a very big deal. Any further
editing adventures I have will be listed in the version updates
section.
***********************************************************************
II. How do the ratings work?
First of all, what do the ratings do?
Overall - The numerical gauge of the player's total abilities.
Close Shot - Two-point shooting accuracy (inside the paint).
Medium Shot - Two-point shooting accuracy (outside the paint).
3pt - Three-point shooting accuracy.
FT -Free Throw shooting accuracy.
Layup - Layup accuracy, frequency, and creativity.
Dunk - Dunk accuracy, frequency, and creativity
Handle - Crossover ability. Higher rating also means it is harder to
steal the ball while the player possesses it.
Pass - Ability to pass the ball from one player to the other without it
getting stolen. Higher rating also means more speed on the pass.
PostOff - Effectiveness of offensive post moves
PostDef - Effectiveness of defending a post player.
Block - Ability to block the opponent's shot.
Steal - Ability to steal the ball from the opponent.
RebOff - Ability to grab offensive rebounds
RebDef - Ability to grab defensive rebounds
Speed - How fast the player runs down the court
Stamina - The rate of which players grow tired.
Durability - The player's resistance to injury
DefAwr - A player's defensive intelligence (defensive ability)
OffAwr - A player's offensive intelligence (executing plays, handling
the ball)
***********************************************************************
III. How did I calculate the ratings?
A lot of it was common sense.
At this present time, I will not reveal this in its entirety. When the
FAQ is done (and plagiarism is no longer an issue) I will add this
section.
***********************************************************************
IV. The ratings
Ratings will be done in descending order, from highest overall, to
lowest overall. This should work best, because the top players are the
ones most of you will want to edit first. Doing it by team is bad,
because players change teams a lot, especially in the offseason.
If you want to find the ratings for specific players, Ctrl + F is your
friend. Seriously. If you ever complain about not being able to find
something in an FAQ, it means you are computer illiterate, because Ctrl
+ F is very easy. Press the Ctrl key. Hold it. Then press F. Then
enter the name of something you are searching for. Make sure you can
spell it correctly.
If I've asterisked (*) a player, it means they announced their
retirement. If you plan to use that player, I've adjusted his ratings.
If you plan to follow roster changes for next season, reduce him to 50
in all stats and release him.

Notes: Puts up an amazing 21/6/6. He does have a flaw though. He's
not a PG. He puts up way too many turnovers considering his assist
total is only 6. So why doesn't he make the switch? His best friend
Cuttino Mobley plays SG. If Francis switches, Mobley gets traded.
While putting friends first is an admirable quality, it's not going to
get him any rings. Should be very interesting to watch this year.
Jeff Van Gundy will probably want to utilize Yao a lot more, which
could result in Francis' scoring go down, but for the better. JVG is
also a Pat Riley defense freak, so I wonder what he'll think about the
Rockets, who were one of the worst defensive teams in basketball.
Could result in Mobley being dealt, and Francis moving over. Stay
tuned.

Notes: Where to start... One of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
The all-time leader in assists and steals. 1,000 assists in a season
has only been accomplished 9 times, 7 of them by him (the other 2 by
Kevin Porter and Isaiah Thomas). Led league in assists a record 9
times. Stockton winning the assist title was as much a given as MJ
winning the scoring title. His career FG% of .515 is the fourth
highest for a guard in NBA history. His 14.5 apg in a season is the
highest mark ever, and probably will not be eclipsed unless there is a
significant rules change. Same goes for his record 1,164 in a season.
Went to the playoffs in all 19 of his seasons. Even this year, he
still managed 7.7 assists (fifth in league) in only 27.7 minutes. If
you're wondering, that makes him first in assists per minute by a large
margin. Before becoming a full-time starter, his numbers were still
remarkable. Rookie year: 5.1 assists in 18 minutes. Second Year: 7.4
assists in 24 minutes. Third year: 8.2 assists in 23 minutes. Fourth
Year (finally as a starter): 13.8 assists in 35 minutes. Retired this
year with 19,711 points, 15,806 assists, and 3,265 steals, with career
averages of 13.1 ppg, 10.5 apg, and 2.2 spg

Notes: Don't be fooled by Bibby's low assist total. He shares the
court with Webber, Divac, and Christie (who all rank very high in
assists at their positions), and he has the sixth man of the year
backing him up. Back with the Grizzlies, Bibby was averaging 8+
assists per game. He was traded for Jason Williams. What did J-Will
do with the Kings? He only averaged 5 apg. What is J-Will doing now
that he's not with the Kings, who rob his assist total? He's averaging
8+, just like Bibby was. Derek Fisher put him on the map.

Notes: J-Will, not to be confused with Jay-Will. One of the most
exciting players in the league. Has much improved since his Sacramento
showboating days. Still showboats, but no longer commits turnovers.
Had the second highest assist to turnover ratio in the league, only
behind Kevin Ollie (which means he had the highest ratio among starting
PGs). Was second in the NBA in assists per minute, only behind John
Stockton. Second in assists per game, only behind Jason Kidd. You've
gotta believe he'd be first if he got a couple more minutes per night
(only 31.7 mpg). Has three-point range, but that's it. If he can
develop a better offensive game, he's surpassed Mike Bibby in my book.

Notes: Became Dallas' leader in the playoffs. As much as the Mavs
needed a SF, he'll be missed. Sure, he came off the bench for two
years. But he's still as good as Gilbert Arenas. He's certainly a
much better passer. The only question is his durability. Back when he
was with LA, he was talking about retiring early because of his bad
knees. Being on the bench in Dallas helped prolong his career. He
shouldn't get that many minutes this year, even though he'll be
starting again. Probably around 30 minutes. You won't hear Speedy
Claxton complaining. NVE hates playing on bad teams as much as Latrell
Sprewell, so the ride won't be without bumps, and Golden State would
probably be wise to move him to a contender ASAP to take advantage of
his high value. Then again, if the Warriors played in the east, they'd
be in the playoffs. They have 2 decent centers, one of the better
rebounding PFs in the league, a star PG, a rising SG, another quality
SG off the bench, and the third pick from last year who should relish
Jamison's PT and NVE's run and gun style. But unless the Blazers
decide to dismantle (probably not this year), they don't have a shot in
the west.

Notes: Jay-Will's career is in jeopardy after a serious motorcycle
accident this summer. He carries with him the jinx of the number 2
pick, which dates back as far as Sam Bowie. Bowie was famously drafted
before MJ. Other #2 pick gaffes are Shawn Bradley before Penny, Darko
before Melo, Bibby before VC, Dirk, Jamison, and Pierce, Keith Van Horn
before Tracy McGrady, Marcus Camby before Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen,
Antoine Walker, Danny Ferry, taken ahead of Sean Elliott, Glen Rice,
Tim Hardaway, and Shawn Kemp, Steve Francis (forced a trade to Houston
for less talented players) before Baron Davis, Lamar Odom, Wally
Szczerbiak, Rip Hamilton, Andre Miller, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry, Ron
Artest, and the list probably goes on. Other #2 picks have not come
out unscathed: Len Bias (died in car accident after being drafted),
Alonzo Mourning (developed kidney disorder), Antonio McDyess (has had 3
knee surgeries in 2 years, also taken before KG). The last two #2
picks that ended up being the best player in their draft classes were 2
Oakland PGs, Jason Kidd (thanks in part to Grant Hill's injuries), and
Gary Payton. Anyway, getting back to Jay, the PG position often takes
more than one season for a young guy to learn, so this accident means
we may never see how good Jay Williams could have been. Oh, and he
changed his name to Jay from Jayson because Jayson Williams the former
Nets star shot his limo driver with a shotgun a month before the draft.
Rashidi doesn't miss a beat.

Notes: French. That gives him some points in my book, but he needs
more assists. Decent scoring PG, average distributor. Still, most PGs
struggle in their first year or two in the league, and Parker thus far
has not struggled as much in comparison (Gary Payton did not score in
double figures until his third season). He's going to need to improve,
because he gets abused by bigger PGs like Stephon Marbury. Got upset
that the Spurs wanted Kidd, which would have meant a bench role for
Parker. Poor baby.

Notes: Will probably retire due to injuries. Was traded to Atlanta
because his expiring contract provides cap relief. Only eighth player
in NBA history under six feet tall to be named an all-star. Rarely
turned the ball over, had amazing assist to turnover ratios. In his
last year, 01-02, he had 8.3 assists per game to go with 1.34 turnovers
per game.

Notes: Passes the ball very well, and gets lots of steals, but has no
J. Of course, neither did Jason Kidd in his first 2 years, so that's
somewhat promising. He has 1,195 assists in his first 2 years.
Getting a jumpshot will increase his court time, which would make it
interesting to see where his assist total would be in 10 years. Not
getting a jumpshot will probably relegate him to the bench one the
Pacers get someone who can hit one.

When I saw him in his rookie year, he could hardly dribble the ball.
Just let him play SG already, please. Yes, he's borderline when it
comes to most starting SGs. But do we see the Blazers trying to
convert Derek Anderson to a PG? If you don't want him starting at SG,
then let him come off the bench

Notes: By far the most underrated player in the video game. Even
coming off a bad season, I don't see how Sega thought it fit to rate
him lower than Brent Price. Then again, they saw fit to make Allan
Houston a terrible shooter too, so maybe they're just trying to keep
the Knicks from being too good, since vets do have high overalls. But
60 overall for Eisley is just ridiculous, considering they gave a 70 to
Frank Williams. Did they forget he was Stockton's backup during the
finals run, or that Eisley's three-point accuracy, assist to turnover
ratio, and assists per minute have consistently ranked among the top
10-15 in the league when he's not benched in favor of Mark Jackson?
Eisley hadn't missed a game since 95-96 either, until his third string
assignment.

Notes: Highlight of his career came when the Garden chanted his name...
Charlie, Charlie... Won the Heisman Award in college, but was considered
by most too small to play football. I'd have to agree, since he's been
plagued by knee trouble, and football is much more physical. His
football physicality shows when he's drawing charges from the
opposition. During his career he was the best QB in NY every year, at
least until Chad Pennington. That's a knock on Kerry Collins and Vinny
Testaverde, if you weren't aware.

Notes: Did well in summer leagues. Supposedly a good defender, which
would impact the Knicks if they decide to trade Charlie Ward to a
contender. Didn't show it last year... John Stocton and Mark Jackson
toyed with him after Don Cheaney boasted that "he wasn't worried about
Frank being able to handle the slower veterans". He had one good game
where he hit 3 three pointers and had 11 points, which kept his ppg
from being below 1.0 this year (subtract those 11, and he had 17 points
in 21 games). His FG% was .273, beating out the likes of Tshkilvili
and Wagner for the title of worst shooting rookie. In all fairness, he
DID miss training camp with an injury, but he has waive written all
over him, especially when Milos Vujanic decides to rear his head in NY.

Notes: Kobe always gets compared to MJ. Now let's be fair. MJ cheated
on his wife while they were married, but he was never dumb enough to
get caught. This is the prevailing reason why Kobe, no matter what he
does in the rest of his career, will always be one level below MJ.
Kobe got caught with his hand in the cookie jar, MJ never did. As for
his playing accomplishments, he was the youngest player to ever play in
an all-star game, he set the NBA record this year for threes in a game
with 12, and became the youngest player to get 10,000 points in NBA
history. Which puts him on a normal pace if he sees jail time.

Notes: Acquired instant fame by winning the Slam Dunk contest in his
rookie year, imitating Dr J's dunk from the foul line. White man can
jump. Could be a decent scorer if he wanted to. Averaged 5 apg even
when Gary Payton was still in Seattle. Coincidently, the last time the
Clippers made the playoffs, he was on the team. For some strange
reason, Pat Riley traded the still effective Issac Austin for Barry.
Barry wasn't even added to the playoff roster, and Miami, missing it's
depth at center, lost in the playoffs as usual. Easily the best of
Rick Barry's 3 sons.

person more clutch at the end of games was MJ, and like MJ, saved his

Notes: First in the NBA in Steals per Turnover. Kittles runs on the
break superbly, which makes him a great teammate for Jason Kidd. Shot
466 and .467 in 2 seasons with Kidd. With Marbury, his FG% hovered
around 43%. Was a three-point threat earlier in his career, but
doesn't take nearly as many anymore. Strange, considering he's really
the only one on the team who is good from that range. So the legend
goes, the Nets initially intended to draft Kobe, but Kobe threatened
the Nets that he would pull a Steve Francis (refuse to sign a contract)
if they drafted him, so they took the safe route and drafted Kittles
instead. The Hornets called Kobe's bluff and were able to get Divac
out of LA, which the Lakers didn't mind since they needed to salary
dump to beat Orlando's offer to Shaq.

you realize how much Jerry West put into the Laker dynasty. George got
a good contract from Mitch Kupchak, but has only shot over 40% once in
his career. Every year, the Lakers have gotten a little worse since
Mitch took over. He should consider himself lucky that Shaq and Kobe
attracted Karl and Gary, because he sure wouldn't have been able to
done that on his own... his job was extended about 3 years because of it.

Notes: Rashidi's claim to fame: Odom went to HS 10 blocks from my
house. How did I come to know about Lamar Odom? Back in the day, we
were talking about what NBA players we'd met. My friend who was in
ninth grade at the time, and went to Christ the King HS, said "Lamar
Odom is NBA". Makes me wonder what it's like, knowing that you're a
lock for the NBA at the age of 15... An athletics director I know says
Odom is the most talented player he's ever seen, but he was also the
stupidest kid he'd ever seen, going as far as to say "he was stupid as
a brick". For what it's worth, that director was also as dumb as a
brick, because he absolutely 100% swore to me that Nick Van Exel had
been traded to the Celtics that day, and he was pissed because that
meant Boston wouldn't need Omar Cook (also of Christ the King lore).
Rashidi Insider Info at it's finest. Oh, and Odom will probably be the
point forward, at power forward for Miami this year. Yeah.

Notes: Did Detroit give up on White early, or did White give up playing
basketball early? Wasn't he supposed to go earlier than ninth in the
draft? MJ loved the kid, he was considering trading the first pick
(Kwame) for someone good so he could move down and draft White. Now,
he's a mess. What do we know about White? On the worst team in
basketball, he managed these numbers as a starter in 19 games. 10.9
ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.9 apg with a .399 FG% in 27.5 mpg. He certainly isn't
a Ricky Davis stat padder. I also assume he changed his position to SG
now, which is kind of perplexing. He's 6'9 and 230 pounds. Shouldn't
he be playing SF? And with these kinds of advantages, why is he not
being successful at posting up smaller guards? He's the biggest guard
in the entire NBA, and he can't even shoot 40% as a starter? For what
it's worth, he was also third in the NBA in Turnovers per minute.

Notes: The 2 time reigning MVP won his second ring in four seasons, and
you can't stick an asterisk next to this one. Has torn up the league
since his arrival. Just look at his recognitions. He's the first
player since, fittingly, David Robinson, to be on an all-nba team and a
defensive team in each of his first 6 seasons (Robinson had 7), and
he's the first player in history to be named to the NBA First team in
his first 6 seasons (the closest is Larry Bird, who made the first team
in each of his first 4 seasons). Among the tops in the league in
points, rebounds, and blocks each year. But you know what I like most
about him? His assist totals. Look at his points, rebounds, assists,
blocks, and FG% totals per round of the playoffs this season. First
Round - 18.7 ppg, 16.0 rpg, 5.2 apg, 3.5 bpg. 521 fg%. Second Round -
28.0 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.3 bpg, 529 fg%. Conference Finals -
28.0 ppg, 16.7 rpg, 5.8 apg, 3.0 bpg, 569 fg%. NBA Finals - 24.7 ppg,
15.4 rpg, 5.3 apg, 5.3 bpg, 495 fg%. Absolutely insane. In case you
are wondering, Duncan's assist totals exceeded Tony Parker's assist
totals in each round of the playoffs. Definitely the heir to Shaq's
kingdom, and unlike Shaq, he didn't jump ship and screw over his former
team.

Notes: Was sixth in the NBA in ppg in 97-98, yet did not make the all-
star team. Should have made the team more than once, that's what
happens when you play in dead cities like Vancouver and Atlanta. He
has career averages of 20.7 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.9 apg, but only one all-
star game. Would be puzzling, but the records of the teams that he
plays for are abysmal, which leaves questions about how much better he
really makes a team.

Notes: Rookie of the year this year. Has had the most success of any
rookie coming out of high school. Shouldn't have won RoY, because I
feel he got it over Yao based on his team making the playoffs. The
difference between the Rockets and Suns was not Amare and Yao. It was
Shawn Marion being a lot better than Cuttino Mobley.

Notes: Has more nicknames than Sean Combs. The most dominant player in
the NBA, when all is said and done he'll probably go down as one of the
top 5 centers of all-time. The other 4 are Wilt, Russell, Jabbar, and
Hakeem. Was the first player to be named Player of the Week in his
first week in the league. Broke two backboards dunking during his
rookie year. You can download the videos off Kazaa or another P2P
download service. Was selected as one of the 50 greatest players of
all time, but prematurely IMO. The selections were made in 1996. Shaq
had only played 4 seasons. What if he had gotten a serious injury
afterwards? Then you've got a player who would end up not being the
best of all-time. What if Shaq had pulled a Vince Carter? VC was the
next MJ... then he got injured. What about Kobe and T-Mac? Right NOW
they're scoring 30 ppg, but who knows how long that will last? Does
either deserve to make such a prestigious list? In retrospect,
everything worked out, but I still think a 4 year vet should have been
made to wait for the top 100 list,

man, but not durable to play a full season as a starter. The one
season he didn't have injury problems was his first season in NY where
he came off the bench the whole year, and keep in mind that was the 50
game lockout year. He has never played more than 63 games in a season,
which means he misses at least 19 games per year. In his best season,
he averaged 12/12 with 2.2 bpg and a 525 fg% in only 34 mpg.

Notes: Deservedly the #1 pick, proving that 1 in every billion Chinese
people could play in the NBA. On that note, I'm willing to bet that
only 1 in every billion Chinese people is 7'6. Undeservedly an all-
star, which goes to show how flawed the Internet voting system is.
Cross the most populated country in the world with the world's most
accessible ballot... it wouldn't surprise me if Yao started over Shaq
each year for the next 5 years, regardless of what Yao does on the
court. He could bomb and put up 8/5 and still get elected.
Undeservedly the rookie of the year runnerup, behind Amare Stoudemire.
It's not so much that Yao was markedly better, but the voting wasn't
even that close. What did Amare do that was markedly more effective
than Yao? Phoenix made the playoffs, that's it. You can attribute
that to Shawn Marion being a helluva a lot better as a second option
than Cuttino Mobley. At the very least, they should have been co-
winners. Deserved more touches in the Houston offense. Sorry Stevie,
we know how much you hated passing to Hakeem Olajuwon, but when your
center is hitting a high percentage on the inside, maybe you should
think about getting it down there more. Deserves Jeff Van Gundy. Jeff
Van Gundy deserves Yao.

V. Created Players
Upon request, I'll rate certain players. Rookies, or former NBA
players. If you have a request, e-mail me. But keep in mind that I
don't watch college basketball, so accurately making a CAP for a rookie
may take some time.
On the concept of "Players adjusted to a certain year", this is there
because often players want to cap players from, you guessed it, a
certain year. A popular request seems to be the Chicago Bulls. As
most of us know, Jordan in the game is not the same player as the
Jordan who won 6 titles. In fact, Jordan was a different player during
his first 3 titles than he was in his last 3.
Other players suffer setbacks in their career, and aren't the same.
Larry Johnson for instance, was a bonafide superstar when he came into
the league, and then back injuries killed his career. Some people will
want Charlotte LJ, some will want NY LJ.
Shawn Kemp and Vin Baker are players in the league that also used to be
good, but aren't very good right now. These are all just examples of
what can appear in that section. Of course, Rashidi doesn't have all
the time in the world (though it's sometimes hard to tell), so he'll
get to these when he can. As said, e-mail me with suggestions.
Oh, and lastly, I don't care about CAP appearances. I don't make them
so don't bother asking me how to make Lebron's face and such. A player
will still play the same, no matter what his hair looks like.
Players on my list to CAP
Point Guards: Milos Vujanic, Derek Harper, Mark Price, Scott Skiles, BJ
Armstrong, Carlos Arroyo
Shooting Guards: Isiah Rider, Bobby Phills, Malik Sealy, Harold Miner
Small Forwards: Detlef Schrempf, Charles Smith
Power Forwards: Brian Scalabrine
Centers: Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Expected Role: Probably a raw reserve, similar to Kwame Brown. Even if
he has played a little European pro, he's still 18. They had to change
the draft rules so he could be drafted - he was only 17 at the time of
the normal deadline, which means he is probably the youngest basketball
player in the league, ever. The Pistons signed Elden Campbell, and
combined with Wallace, Robinson, Williamson, Okur, and Rebraca, this
should ensure Milicic gets limited minutes.

Notes: If you don't know who Drazen Petrovic is, he's only the best
European player to ever play in the NBA (pre-Dirk). His career was cut
short by a tragic auto accident after only his fourth NBA season. In
the 92-93 season for the Nets (who recently retired his jersey), he
scored 22.3 ppg, had a .518 FG% (.449 3PT%) and shot 87% from the line.
The Croatian team led by Petrovic (who averaged 25 ppg), Toni Kukoc,
and Dino Radja placed second in the Barcelona Olympics, behind the
famous Dream Team. In fact, they were the only team that was able to
get a lead against the Dream Team after 10 minutes into the game. For
more information (although quite a bit biased, they go as far as
calling him better than Michael Jordan, and seemingly hold a grudge
against Derrick Coleman and Kenny Anderson, kinda low class for a
memorial page), visit drazenpetrovic.com.

Notes: Utah sharpshooter that was the third cog (along with Malone and
Stockton) in Utah's two consecutive NBA Finals appearances. His career
FT% of .879 is ninth in NBA history. Also made 67 straight free
throws, sixth longest streak in NBA history. Only the 18th player in
NBA history to reach 14,000 points (finished career with 15,000+) and
5,000 assists. Something to keep in mind is the majority of those
other players are likely PGs.
Let me do some research and see if I can find the others that reached
that milestone before him.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38k/5k) Nate Archibald (16k/6k), Larry Bird
(21k/5k), Dave Bing (18k/5k), Bob Cousy (17k/7k), Clyde Drexler
(22k/6k), Walt Frazier (15k/5k), John Havlicek (26k/6k), Magic Johnson
(17k/10k), Michael Jordan (32k/5k), Oscar Robertson (26k/9k), John
Stockton (19k/15k), Isaiah Thomas (19k/9k), Jerry West (25k/6k), Lenny
Wilkens (17k/7k). That's 15 players, ALL of whom are on the NBA's
greatest 50 players list. The other two are Derek Harper (16k/6k) and
Reggie Theus (19k/6k).
Karl Malone (36k/5k) also achieved the milestone this year, while
Scottie Pippen (18k/6k) got it the same year as Hornacek. Gary Payton
(18k/7k), Terry Porter (15k/7k), Tim Hardaway (15k/7k), Rod Strickland
(14k/7k) have all gotten there since then. Jason Kidd (9k/6k) will
probably make it in 3 years, while Mark Jackson (12k/10k) will probably
fall short (he would need 3 years).
I am in absolute shock and awe at Hornacek's elite company. I've
certainly got a newfound respect for him now, and hopefully you do too.

VII. Depth Charts
Here I'll list the depth charts of the NBA teams, so you have a good
idea of where to put them in your "Team Lineups" screen. You may not
realize that where a player is placed on the bench affects the rating
of the team. Bobby Jackson in the top bench slot affects the team's
rating more positively than he would if he were at the bottom of the
bench, or on the IR. Also, I am going to be placing players regardless
of position. Some players have incorrect positions in the game, and
unfortunately, you can't edit position. For instance, Latrell Sprewell
is technically a SF, and Wally Szczerbiak is technically a SG, but this
season Spree will be a SG, and Wally will be a SF. I will also include
players that are not in the game, to make it as realistic as possible.

IX. Questions and Answers
If you have any questions, I'll post it here (if it's a good question).
-----
Question: Do you have the appearances of Lebron and other guys?
Answer: Like I said, I don't make appearances. I'm sure there are
websites you can find via a search engine that provide appearances that
should suit your tastes.
-----
Question: Why do you have to make the rapist, Kobe Bryant a perfect
99? I mean the Lakers didn't even make it to the conference
finals with him and Shaq.
Answer: Actually, he is higher. He is 101, but the highest the roster
screen will say is 99. If you start a game, and check his rating (with
normal biorhythm) he'll be 101. However, this is not my fault. If you
give McGrady IDENTICAL ratings to Kobe, Kobe will STILL have a higher
overall. I don't know why this is, though I speculate there may be
some unchangeable hidden ratings (Clutch, for instance). Overall is not
important at all, the ratings are, and Kobe is nearly identical to
McGrady (in fact I'd prefer McGrady in the game).
-----
Question: Why don't you acknowledge Tom Gugliotta's greatness?
Answer: Christian Laettner > Tom Gugliotta.
-----
Question: Rashidi, what is your favorite NBA team?
Answer: I live in the NY area, so it is easiest for me to follow the
Knicks and Nets. The Knicks are my favorite team, but Jason Kidd has
been my favorite player since he entered the league. The last two
years year I have definitely preferred NJ.
-----
Question: Rashidi, which team do you like the least?
Answer: Probably Seattle. It's not that I don't like them, it's just
that NY hears very little newsworthy about them. I haven't even seen a
Seattle game in the last 2 years. I have never seen Lewis, Radminovic,
or Drobnjak play before, outside of a Sports Center highlight reel. Oh
wait, I think I saw Lewis once when the Knicks played Ewing and the
Sonics, but other than that, nothing. Sorry Seattle fans, Rashidi
hasn't been able to see your games on TNT.
-----
Question: Rashidi, who is your favorite player?
Answer: Well, I already said Jason Kidd, but I'll list my top 5 to
humor you.
1. Jason Kidd
2. Allan Houston
3. Dirk Nowitzki
4. Steve Nash
5. Wally Szczerbiak
-----
Question: Why is Darius Miles' 3pt rating only 52?
Answer: Darius, you need to go back to high school and learn some basic
math. You are 4 for 52 on three pointers in your career. You were 1
for 19 in your rookie year, 3 for 19 in your second year, and 0 for 14
last year. Those numbers would make John Starks proud. When you are
shooting three's at less than 8% accuracy, most people would stop
jacking them up. I hope you don't wonder why your FG% keeps dropping.
Stick to your rim rattling dunks, and pray extra hard. Pray that King
James (aka Darius Miles WITH talent) passes the ball to you enough to
remind the excitement-deprived Cleveland fans of what Shawn Kemp was
"supposed" to be for them, or else you will be waived ala Harold Miner.
-----
Question: Rashidi, what are your predictions for the award winners of
the 2003-2004 season?
Answer:
Most Valuable Player - Tim Duncan
Rookie Of The Year - Carmelo Anthony
Coach Of The Year - Jeff Van Gundy (the Rockets are the sleeper team
this year)
Defensive Player Of The Year - Ben Wallace
Sixth Man Of The Year - I'd give it to Michael Redd, but I don't think
he'll keep up the shooting barrage percentage wise. Pat Garrity.
Most Improved Player - Curry
All-NBA Team: Jason Kidd, Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan,
Shaquile O'Neal (Kobe won't put up 30 ppg with the improved Laker
lineup).
All-NBA 2nd Team: Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Shawn Marion, Chris
Webber, Dirk Nowitzki (but only if Dirk qualifies at C this year, which
I think he will).
All-NBA 3rd Team: Stephon Marbury, Paul Pierce, Jamal Mashburn,
Jermaine O'Neal, Yao Ming (although he makes it as a forward, there is
no way Jermaine O'Neal isn't at center before the end of the year. You
think Rick Carlsie is going to live and die with Scot Pollard as his
defensive cornerstone?)
All-Defensive Team: Jason Kidd, Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, Ben Wallace,
Tim Duncan (Doug Christie gets snubbed again, as voters have an urge to
not completely diss Kobe)
All-Defensive 2nd Team: Gary Payton, Doug Christie, Bruce Bowen, Kevin
Garnett, Nene Hilario
All-Rookie Team - TJ Ford, Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony,
Chris Kaman
All-Rookie 2nd Team - Kirk Hinrich, Marcus Banks, Jarvis Hayes, Michael
Sweetney, Chris Bosh (Lampe will make it at C if he gets played there,
I don't think he'll see enough court time at SF to be able to beat out
Hayes there.)
East All-Star starters: Jason Kidd, Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter,
Jermaine O'Neal, Ben Wallace (I assume Carter will be a SF on the
ballot AGAIN, even though he starts at SG).
East All-Star bench: Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker, Allen Iverson,
Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jamal Mashburn, Baron Davis, and either Allan
Houston, Kurt Thomas, or Antonio McDyess (leaning against Houston
because the east needs a big man to replace Brad Miller, which means
Thomas or McDyess depends on how healthy McDyess is to start the year).
West Starters: Stephon Marbury, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan,
Yao Ming (again because of the Chinese internet vote)
West Bench: Shaquille O'Neal, Steve Francis, Chris Webber, Dirk
Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, Ray Allen, Steve Nash
All-Star MVP - Where is the game being held? I guess Stephon Marbury is
due, dunno how many All-Star MVPs repeat, and most of the west front
court players have won it, as as Kobe.
1 800 CALL ATT Shootout- Peja Stojakovic
Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk - Desmond Mason cannot be in it, so stick
with Jason Richardson.
989 Sports Skills Challenge - Jason Kidd repeats
Got milk? Rookie Challenge
Rookies
C Chris Kaman, Chris Bosh
PF Michael Sweetney, Darko Milicic, Maciej Lampe
SF Carmelo Anthony, Jarvis Hayes
SG Dwayne Wade, Mickeal Pietrus
PG Lebron James (10 to 1 he starts the game at PG regardless of his
position during the season, that gets Carmelo in staritng lineup too),
TJ Ford, Kirk Hinrich
Whoever wins MVP will probably win RoY the way the media votes for
these things. So maybe Lebron will win after all.
Sophmores
C Nene Hilario, Mehmet Okur, Dan Gadzuric (Yao can't play if he makes
All-Star team, otherwise its an easy win for Sophmores)
PF Amare Stoudemire, Nicholoz Tskitishvili
SF Caron Butler, Mike Dunleavy
SG Gordon Giricek, Casey Jacobsen
PG Marko Jaric, Dajuan Wagner, Dan Dickau
Then again, looking at the Sophmore front court, Amare will probably
dominate whoever guards him, so look for him to get MVP, and for the
Sophs to win the game. If Yao isn't an all-star, he is eligible to
play, which makes this a very lopsided affair in the Sophmore's favor.

X. FAQ Version updates
Version 2.0 (10/3/03): Brought back the Players adjusted by year
section. Added Allan Houston and Ricky Davis to the section, as well
as the future Lebron James. Edited Jay Williams, Troy Hudson, Terrell
Brandon, Earl Boykins, Rod Strickland, Ricky Davis, Tamar Slay, Fred
Hoiberg, Brandon Armstrong, Lavor Postell, Jeff Trepagnier, Pau Gasol,
Kenyon Martin, Anthony Mason, Zach Randolph, Carlos Boozer, Kirk
Hinrich, TJ Ford, Zoran Planinic, Maciej Lampe, and Luke Walton. Added
Jeryl Sasser, Felipe Lopez and Kedrick Brown. Updated more rosters and
depth charts. I'm just fine tuning everything until the new basketball
games come out.
Version 1.9 (9/28/03): Edited Baron Davis, Steve Francis, David Wesley,
Lucious Harris, Amare Stoudemire, Kurt Thomas, Alonzo Mourning, Brad
Miller, Vlade Divac, and Yao Ming. Added more to the Roster Updates
section, and Player's Notes sections. I was bored.
Version 1.8 (9/24/03): Edited Charlie Ward and Lebron James. Added
more to the Player's Notes sections. This is likely the final update.
I would like to continue doing this for the next basketball sim that
comes out. I have not decided if I am doing this for Live or ESPN. I
may do it for both games; it depends on the gameplay, and the ease in
editing player ratings to reflect ability. Live comes out before ESPN,
so we'll see what happens then.
Version 1.7 (9/12/03): Edited Andre Miller, Steve Nash, Gilbert Arenas,
Nick Van Exel, Chauncey Billups, Jay Williams, Eric Snow, Earl Boykins,
Howard Eisley, Allan Houston, Shaquille O'Neal, Dikembe Mutombo, Marcus
Camby, Raef LaFrentz, and Michael Olowokandi. Added more to the players
Notes sections.
Version 1.6 (8/31/03): Edited Gary Payton, Gilbert Arenas, Tracy
McGrady, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, Bonzi Wells, Jason Terry, Richard
Hamilton, Reggie Miller, Michael Redd, Anfernee Hardaway, Emanuel
Ginobilli, Michael Dickerson, Devean George, Lamar Odom, Matt Harpring,
and Hidayet Turkoglu. Added a lot more data to the players sections.
Doing the players sections has allowed me to make a second glance at
certain players I've completed a long time ago, which is why so many
players have been edited. The players are more even more precise,
which is what this FAQ was aiming for. Don't worry, I've still got my
eye on the Rookies.
Version 1.5 (8/30/03): Edited Allan Houston, Lee Nailon, Marcus Camby,
and Tony Battie. Edited the Kirk Hinrich, Michael Sweetney, Slavko
Vranes, and Kyle Korver CAPs. Added more Players, Rosters, and Depth
Charts. Added more data to the players sections, turning them into
mini-bios. I've got to get around to adding the rest of the rookies,
so hopefully I can get to work on that. I didn't get much of a chance
to, as I was 100% busy the first half of the week, and then had a virus
scare the second half of the week. Everything's back on track though,
it's just a matter of time...
Version 1.4 (8/23/03): Added the Depth Charts section. Added Donald
Royal. Edited Desmond Mason, Rasho Nesterovic. This is the smallest
update so far, as I've been busy lately.
Version 1.3 (8/16/03): Edited Craig Claxton, Howard Eisley, Rasho
Nesterovic, Troy Murphy, and Amare Stoudemire. Created Alexsander
Pavlovic, Luke Walton, and Kyle Korver. Added to the Questions and
Answers section, and the Roster Updates section.
Version 1.2 (8/9/03): Hopefully this version gets posted with no
problems. For some reason, GameFAQs kept the link to 1.0 up but had it
listed as 1.1. Notable additions to the CAPs if you're a Bulls fan:
Lonny Baxter, Luc Longley, and Bill Wennington.
Version 1.1 (8/5/03): Added a new section: Created Teams. Added a
bunch of players. Edited Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, Allan Houston,
Cuttino Mobley, Stephen Jackson, Steve Smith, and Lee Nailon. Edited
the Lebron James and Joe Dumars CAPs. Added a lot to the 2003 Rookie
CAP section. Created a few other players as well.
Version 1.0 (7/25/03): Well, it's up. I still need to add a lot of
players. Keep the suggestions coming.

XIV. Closing
This is my first time using the 2k series. Prior to this, I'd been
with the EA Sports brand, which dates back to NBA Showdown (92-93,
prior to the Live series).
I have not decided if I will do this FAQ next year, or if I will do it
for the 2k series (now known as "ESPN Basketball").
One of the initial problems I had with this FAQ is I'd never done
anything like this, and had to figure out ways to do it on the fly.
Assuming I do this again next year, things will go much faster, since
I'll already have experience on what to do and not do.
Once this is completed, I'll be very satisfied that I was FINALLY able
to finish one of my many long-term projects.
Until next time,
Rashidi
