~~HISTORY~~
Shang Tsung's past is shrouded in mystery; his exact origins are unknown
and never specified. According to several sources he was originally a
human from Earthrealm. Shang Tsung had been cursed by the Gods to not only
kill his enemies but steal their soul. This is the only way he can prevent
his dark fate of aging rapidly and to die premautrely. None the less, There
is a good side effect for this to Shang Tsung. He is able to access all of
the memories and knowledge from the souls he takes. This has greatly
benefited him over the years.
Shang Tsung quickly became the Grand Champion of the Mortal Kombat tournament
when he first entered overcoming all competitiion. How long he kept this title
is unclear, however, it is known that he losses his title by the legendary
Shaolin warrior monk, The Great Kung Lao.
Many years later, Shang Tusng returned appearing much older. After the
"mysterious" death of one of hte Grandmasters of the tournamnet. He brought
along with him his best student, the Shokan Prince Goro. He was ordered by
Shao Khan, ruler of Outworld to start a winning streak in the tournament to
unbalance the Furies and weaken the dimensional gates between the realms which
would allow him to conquer Earthrealm.
After a great but doomed fight, the Great Kung Lao was defeated and killed by
Goro. Shang Tsung then consumed his soul and begam Outworld's domination of the
Mortal Kombat tournament.
Sometime later, Shang Tsung made contact with the sorcerer, Quan Chi. He had
learned of Quan Chi's quest for Shinnok's amulet, whose location is only known
by Shaolin Monks. In exchange for Quan Chi's and Shinnok's aid for completeing
a task for Shao Khan, he gave Quan Chi the location to the map but did not tell
him that no socercer can enter the temple.
Over the next 500 years, Goro remained undefeated and the tournament stayed in
the hands of Shang Tsung, who eventually became the only Grandmaster. The
tournament then began to be held on his private island, located between
Outworld and Earthrealm.
Near the end of this time period, Shang Tsung learned of the warrior swordsman
Kenshi. Shang Tsung disguised himself as an old man named Song to exploit
Kenshi's pride. He praised Kenshi and told him he needs a sword worthy of
his skill. He then led Kenshi to it's location, in an underground laybrinth
Shang Tsung told Kenshi the sword was under a stone casing which Kenshi opened
up. The souls of Kenshi's warrior king ancestors were released and Shang Tsung
took them. Kenshi was blinded because of this incident.
During the tenth and final Mortal Kombat tournament, which would allow Shao
Khan to invade Earthrealm, Liu Kang, a Shaolin Monk, defeated Goro breaking the
streak. Liu Kang then challenged Shang Tsung to bring honor back to the once
sacred tournament Shang Tsung was then dragged in front of Shao Khan and begged
for his life. He then told Shao Khan that if they challanged Earthrealm they
would have to accept for forfiet, Shao Khan accepted this plan. He then
restored Shang Tsung's youth to him. Also, this tournament was used as
a diversion for he could continue with his plan to ressurect his former
queen, Sindel.
During the tournament Shang Tsung lost to Liu Kang even with his youth restored
to him. After his defeat, Shang Tsung finished the process of resurrected Sindel
with the aid of his cult of Shadow Priests but it was tainted and now evil.
This was also thanks to the help of Quan Chi and Shinnok.
when she was revived Shao Khan could reach across the realms to reclaim her. He
forcefully merged the two realms. Shang Tsung was then the leader of one of Shao
Khan's extermination squads which were made to hunt down Raiden and other
warriors of Earthrealm. Despite his new found power, Shang Tsung lost to Liu
Kang again. Upon Shao Khan's defeat, Shang Tsung fled into Outworld.
Several years later, Shang Tsung found Quan Chi in the courtyard of his
palace fighting Scorpion. When Quan Chi won, he gave Shang Tsung an
offer. It was to help him revive the lost and ancient army of the long
forgotton Dragon King using his ability to transplant souls. In exchange
he would open up a soulnado to the heavens which would give him an
endless supply of souls. Shang Tsung accepted this offer, thus forming
the Deadly Alliance. In order for this plan to work they had to
take out two of the realm's most powerful warrriors, Liu Kang and Shao Khan.
Shang Tsung and Quan Chi first talked to Shoa Khan and gained his loyalty but
then they attacked him and killed him (or so they thought, it was later found
out that they killed a mear clone). After killing him Kano became one of their
allies. They then left for the Wu Shi Acadmy through an ancient portal. Shang
Tsung then disguised himslef as Kung Lao and attacked Liu Kang from
behind. Although Liu Kang was winning, Quan Chi came up from behind which
gave Shang Tsung the opportunity to kill him by breaking his neak and taking
his soul.
This Deadly Alliance was, however, a fragile one. Shang Tsung did not completely
trust Quan Chi and when they returned to Outworld he gave the Oni Drahmin and
Moloch an offer. After he performed his part of the plan they would be able to
do withQuan Chi as they wish.
The Deadly Alliance then commanded Kano's troops to force a small Outworld
villageto create the palace where the Soulnado would be made. Shortly after
Raiden and many warriors of Earthrealm who he gathered attacked the alliance.
They were all defeated until it was just Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, and Raiden.
They won although their victory didn't last long. They quickly turned on each
other and fought. Quan Chi was victorious but right after he win he was
confronted by a new and more powerful foe, the reborn Dragon King, Onaga.
All three of them fought Onaga with all their fight but failed at defeating
him. Raiden then used a last ditch effort to win, he collected all of his
remaining power and blew himself up. The whole palace was destroyed by Onaga
remained alive. Shang Tsung was killed which released all the souls he had
captured over the years.
Even though he was killed, he returned during the events known as Armagedden.
Most likely he was revived by Shao Khan for he could be punished for
attempting to kill him. Taven during his quest sees Onaga, Quan Chi, and Shao
Khan talking about how they must prevent the forces of good from obtaining the
power Blaze posessess.
