This FAQ is for the Bomb Disposal Mode of the Missions Area of Metal Gear
Solid 2: Substance for Microsoft Xbox.

It is pretty much impossible to tell you in words how to attain the Top
Record for a lot of these missions. Instead, I've detailed exactly where
each bomb is located and given some details of the best way to get to them.
If you've cleared these areas and are only trying to get the Top Record, this
FAQ probably won't help you, but if you're just trying to get 100% for these
missions, this FAQ should give you exactly what you need.

You can, however, drop me an email and request a movie of a Top Record run
through a level. I have video captured a run through each level in which I
have attained the Top Record. So far, I have one for every Snake, Raiden,
Pliskin and Raiden (Ninja) level. So, as long as you have a high-speed
internet connection, I will get a movie to you to watch and study.

Where is Bomb Disposal Mode?

Bomb Disposal Mode can be found by choosing "Missions" from the main menu,
and then choosing a character followed by "Alternative Missions."

Can you explain the Bonus Points system?

Sure, here are the areas in which you can earn Bonus Points:

Time .............. Each second remaining on your timer is multiplied by
60 to determine this bonus.

Bullets ........... Each bullet remaining in your inventory is
multiplied by 50 to determine this bonus.

Sneaking Bonus .... If you are not seen by the enemy you receive 1500
points. You lose 500 points each time you are seen.

No-Kill Bonus ..... You receive a 2000 point bonus if you don't kill
any soldiers on the level. You get nothing if you
kill even one soldier.

Which of the Bonus Points areas is most important?

Actually, a good balance is the most important. You MUST attain the No-Kill
Bonus and full Sneaking Bonus in order to get the Top Record. Time and Bullets
are equally important, but you shouldn't sacrifice a lot of either to get a
little of the other.

In Pliskin's levels I don't have a tranquilizer weapon, how do I get no-kill?

Learn the guards' patterns and figure out a way to get around them. You
don't have to take them out in order to get to the bombs, you just have to
sneak by them and set up near the bomb to freeze it when there is a lull in
their activity near the bomb. It will take time to get it down perfectly.

Bomb 1: Stand on the crates in this area, face west and look up on the wall

Bomb 1: Go through the door just ahead and on your left. Go down one level.
As you start to go down the next set of stairs, stop and the bomb will be
directly in front of you, a little to the right.

Bomb 2: Go to the small room all the way on the west portion of the Engine
Room (opposite from where you start). Inside of this room, go to the end of
the northwest hall and stand at the door to the Deck. Face south and look
just to the right and down a little. The bomb is attached to the side of the
wall unit.

Bomb 1: From where you start go through the door to the west. In the
southwest portion of this area there is a small cart with a machine on top
of it. Crouch down to see the bomb attached to the bottom of the machine.

Bomb 2: From where you start go through the door to the east. Make your way
to the north end of this area and then up the stairs on the west side. Stop
when you get to the top of the stairs and look in the middle of the screen
to see the bomb on top of the crates on the lower level. If you crouch down
next to the crates in front of you, you will be able to spray coolant through
the opening in the platform's railing at the bomb.

Bomb 3: From where you start go through the door to the east. Make your way
to the northeast portion of this room and through the door on the top floor
here. Walk south in this room about 15 steps and you will find the bomb
along the west wall of this corridor.

Bomb 1: Go behind the bar of the room you start in and look behind the bottles
along the north wall at eye level.

Bomb 2: From where you start go up the stairs in the center south and then
through the unlocked door. Make your way to the east most part of this area
and go up the stairs as far as you can. Turn to come back down the stairs
and you will find the bomb directly in front of you.

Bomb 3: Go outside to the Aft Deck. Get to the west side of the deck on the
bottom floor and then go as far north as you can. Go to the outside edge of
the boat and when the camera changes angle you will be able to see the bomb
attached to the outside of the deck's wall above you.

Bomb 4: From where you start go up the stairs and through the door. Go up the
stairs in the west most section of this area. Start moving east through the
corridor and stop just before the doorway preceding the stairs. The bomb is
attached to the top of this doorway.

Bomb 5: From where you found Bomb 4, go up the stairs. Go to the room in the
northeast corner of this area and the bomb will be clearly visible on the
floor of this room.

Bomb 1: From where you start, begin to go north through the hallway and enter
through the door on your right into the east area. Go down the small stairs to
the botton level. Go to the top of the large bloodstain on the floor, face
west and crouch down. You will see the bomb through the grating.

Bomb 2: Go to the BC connecting bridge. Go through the doorway, stop and turn
around. The bomb is attached to the wall above the doorway.

Bomb 3: Go to Strut C Dining Hall. Go into the west bathroom. Open the door
for the stall next to the urinals and stand in front of the toilet. Face
north and look up. The bomb will be attached to the wall and you will only
be able to see the bottom half of it.

Bomb 4: Go to the CD connecting bridge. Go through the doorway and start to
make your way across the upper part of the bridge. There will be a half wall
on your left as you start across the bridge. As soon as this half wall
stops and the railing starts, turn around and you will find the bomb on the
outside of the half wall.

Bomb 5: Go to the CD connecting bridge. Go down the first set of stairs and
stop at the bottom. There will be a large pipe on your left. The bomb is
attached to the bottom of the upper level, just above the large pipe.

Bomb 6: Go to Strut D Sediment Pool. Go to the bottom level and make your way
as far south and west as you can. Face south and go into first person view to
find the bomb just outside of the walkway.

Bomb 7: Go to Strut D Sediment Pool. Go to the bottom level and make your way
as far south and east as you can. Face the door here and go into first person
view. Look up and to the right and you will see the bomb attached to the
outside of the walkway above you.

Bomb 1: go to the northwest corner of this small room, face north and look up
to find the bomb just above the crates in front of you

Bomb 2: find the bomb stashed right in the middle of the crates in this area

Bomb 1: From where you start go to the northern wall of this small room and
find the bomb on top of the left most locker.

Bomb 2: From where you start go through the door on your left into the main
portion of the Engine Room. Go down 2 sets of stairs and then over the
walkway to the center portion of the room. Move west along this walk and then
go up the small set of stairs (only 4 steps). There will be a large set of
steps right in front of you. The bomb can be found by walking to the right
of these steps and then looking directly under them.

Bomb 1: From where you start go through the west door and into the torture
room. Go to the southeast corner of the room and find the bomb in the sink.

Bomb 2: From where you start go through the east door. Go up the stairs to
the upper level. There are 4 bridges connecting the east walk and the west
walk on the upper level. Get onto the southern middle bridge (where the C4
is showing on the radar) and stand a few steps east of the center. Crouch
down, go into first person view and look just left to find the bomb attached
to the outside of the upper walkway.

Bomb 3: From where Bomb 2 was, go to the northeast most corner of the room
and then through the door here. As soon as you enter, turn and face the door
you came in through. The bomb can be found directly above and left of this
door.

Bomb 1: From where you start, go through the door immediately south of you.
Continue through this hallway and go through the door into the small locker
room area. On the west wall of the locker room, open up the leftmost locker
to find the bomb attached to the inside top of the locker.

Bomb 2: From where you start go to the center stairs of this area. Do not
shoot either of the soldiers sitting on the stairs, as they area wearing the
bombs in this area. Instead, stand next to the stairs, just slightly behind
them and start to spray thier backs. After disarming the bombs, switch to
your gun and knock them out.

Bomb 3: Found with Bomb 2.

Bomb 4: From where you found Bomb 2 and 3 go through the unlocked door at the
top of the stairs. Make your way to the southeast corner of this area. Take
just a few steps north and you will see a dark corner on the left. Look into
this corner to find the bomb attached to the wall.

Bomb 5: From where you found Bomb 4, go up the stairs in the west portion of
this area. Go up the stairs in the center portion of the next area. Go through
the door into the west portion of the following area. In the northwest corner
of the small room you will find a cooking area. Go in this small area and face
south. Go into first person view and you will find the bomb attached to the
inside of a frying pan hanging at eye level.

Bomb 1: From where you start, begin to go north through the hallway and enter
through the door on your right into the east area. Go north to find a door
back into the hallway. Stand in front of this door and face west. Go into
first person view and look up to find the bomb attached to the ceiling.

Bomb 2: Go to the BC connecting bridge. Make your way across the bridge and
stop just before the doorway. The bomb is attached to the wall just to the
right of the doorway.

Bomb 3: Go to Strut C Dining Hall. Go into the east bathroom. As soon as you
enter the bathroom walk up to the short wall in front of you and stop. Face
east, go into first person view and look up to find the bomb attached to the
wall (you will only be able to see part of it).

Bomb 4: Go to the CD connecting bridge. Go down the stairs to the lower level.
As you start to go across the lower portion of the bridge you should see the
bomb attached to the outside of the railing. Stop a few feet short of it to
spray it, as the floor panels right next to it are rigged to fall out from
under you.

Bomb 5: Go to Strut D Sediment Pool. Go to the northernmost part of the upper
level. Go up the small stairs to the north door. Turn as if to go back down
the stairs, go into first person view and look up to find the bomb attached
to the ceiling.

Bomb 1: From where you start, go south and then down the small set of stairs.
Take a few steps south and switch to the Coolant. Look up and to the left
and you will see the bomb attached to the wall.

Bomb 2: In the small room with the table, the bomb will be attached to the
right-hand side of the soda machine.

Bomb 1: From where you start, head north to the small locker room. Jump up on
the crates. Face east and switch to the Coolant. You will see the bomb on
top of the wall unit.

Bomb 2: Go into the main portion of the Engine Room and go to the center area
platforms. Go up the stairs to the second level and go all the way north. As
you start to go west over the connection platform, switch to the Coolant and
you will see the bomb right in front of you.

Bomb 1: Go west through the door. Continue and stop on the right side of the
torture machine. Switch to the Coolant and look up to see the bomb attached
to the bottom of the light.

Bomb 2: Go east through the door to Jejunum (the large corridor). Go to the
north end of the bottom floor and then up the stairs on the west side. Head
south to the last crossing bridge and go to the other side. As soon as you
get to the other side, stop, face south and switch to the Coolant. You'll
see the bomb on the floor.

Bomb 3: Go to the northmost end of Jejunum on the top floor and go through
the door to Ascending Colon. You will see a Ration on the floor to the north.
The bomb is on the floor just past the Ration.

Bomb 1: Go south through the door to Deck-A, crew's quarters. Go to the locker
room in the south portion of this area. Watch out for the puddle right in
front of you, as it will cause you to leave footprints. You can hug the north
wall to avoid it. Enter the locker room through the east door and go straight
north to the wall. Face west and equip the Coolant. You will see the bomb
attached to the side of the locker in front of you.

Bomb 2:

Bomb 1: Located in Strut B Transformer Room where you start. Go to the lockers
at the north end of the strut. The bomb is located inside of the center
locker, but you cannot open the door by hand. Instead, you must shoot the door
at the hinges to knock it off. Be sure to either kill or knock out the guards
or the shooting will alert them.

Bomb 2: Located on the BC connecting bridge. As soon as you go through the
first doorway out to the bridge, turn and face west. Switch to the Coolant
and look up and left to spot the bomb on the wall.

Bomb 3: Located in Strut C Dining Hall. Go north through the hallway past the
bathrooms and enter through the first door on your left. There will be two
tables side by side (running north/south) and one table north of them (running
east/west). Go to the left side of the north table and get down on the floor.
Switch to the Coolant and look to the right to find the bomb sitting on top
of the seats.

Bomb 4: Located on the CD connecting bridge. Go out onto the bridge and down
the first set of stairs. Go to the other end of this walkway and stop just
before the stairs. Switch to the Coolant and you will see the bomb through
stairs.

Bomb 5: Located in Strut D Sediment Pool. The bomb is attached to the bottom
of the stairs platform in the north end of the strut. You can either drop down
from the top level and catch the railing on the lower level to freeze the
bomb from beneath or you can go across the strut by way of the center walkways
and then come back to the north stairs from the right side. If you try to go
to the north stairs from where you start you will set off the bomb.

Bomb 1: From where you start, go south and then down the small set of stairs.
Get on top of the first set of crates here and face north. The bomb is inside
of the vent right in front of you.

Bomb 2: From where you start go north and then west through the door into the
power room. After entering the room continue to walk west and stop a few feet
before you reach the wall. The bomb is inside of the vent right in front of
you.

Bomb 1: From where you start go through the door on your left into the main
room. Go down to the bottom level and go across the small set of stairs to the
center area. Take a few steps south, stop and face east. The bomb is right in
front of you attached to the side of a crate.

Bomb 2: Go to the western portion of the main room, on the bottom level. Go to
the southwest corner of this platform and face south. The bomb is attached to
the wall right in front of you.

Bomb 1: From where you start, go west through the door. The bomb is located on
the bottom of the torture device in the center of the room.

Bomb 2: Go east into Jejunum (the large corridor). Go up the stairs in the
southeast area of the bottom floor. Go west across the southmost connecting
bridge on the upper level and head north. Go past the next connecting bridge
and then east across the very next connecting bridge. Walk a little bit south
until you see the missing floor boards (stop just short of these or you will
set off the bomb). Switch to the Coolant and look up to find the bomb attached
to the nose of the Metal Gear Ray in front of you.

Bomb 3: From where you found Bomb 2 head to the northwest stairs and head
down. Stop about halfway down the second group of stairs and switch to the
Coolant. Look down and right and you will see the bomb attached to the outside
of the bottom level half-wall.

Bomb 1: From where you start, go to the stairs in the center of this area and
go up to the landing. Face east and switch to the Coolant. Look up and a
little left to see the bomb attached just below the ceiling panels.

Bomb 2: From where you found Bomb 1, go up the stairs and through the door
into Deck-B, crew's quarters. Go south through the hallway. Just before you
reach the southwest corner of this area stop (you'll set off the bomb if you
go into the corner). Equip the Coolant and look up and a little right. You
should be able to see just a corner of the bomb sticking out. It's attached
to the small panel located between the wall and ceiling. You can also get to
this spot by going clockwise through this area. It takes a lot longer, but you
will have a clear view of where the bomb is that way.

Bomb 3: From where you found Bomb 2, go to the stairwell in the west area. Go
through the door and outside to the Aft Deck. Go south and down the stairs to
the bottom level. Continue south and you will go past a small platform. Go up
the stairs to get on top of this platform and get on top of the crates here.
Face west and switch to the Coolant. Look up and you will see the bomb
attached to the flag pole.

Bomb 4: From where you found Bomb 3, go back up to the second level and
through the door leading back into Deck-B, crew's quarters. Go up the stairs
right in front of you. Head to the east end of this hallway and you will see
a group of crates up against the east wall. The bomb is attached to the east
wall just behind these crates.

Bomb 5: From where you found Bomb 4: go up the stairs in the center of this
hallway to Deck-D, crew's quarters. Go through the door to the west area of
this deck into the dining area. In the northwest corner is a kitchen area.
Enter this area through the short swinging doors and stop. Face west and
equip the Coolant. Crouch down and look a little up and right. You'll see
the bomb attached to the bottom of the stove vent.

Bomb 1: Located in Strut B Transformer room, where you start. Start to head
north through this area and go through the first door on your right. Head
north and through the door leading back out into the hallway. Start to go
south back through the hallway towards where you started, but stay on the
right side of the hallway and only take one or two steps into the hallway.
The cameras will spot you if you go too far into the hallway. Switch to the
Coolant and look down and right to spot the bomb nestled between the pipes
along the wall.

Bomb 2: Located on BC connecting bridge. In the center of the bridge is a
broken connection to the Shell 1 core. Go to the end of the broken section and
equip the Coolant. Look down and slightly right to see the bomb attached to
the very edge of the broken bridge.

Bomb 3: Located in Strut C Dining Hall. Go north through the hallway past the
bathrooms. Go past the first doorway into the dining area and then go through
the second door. Stop once inside the doorway and face west. The bomb is not
visible, but it's located inside the cardboard box sitting on top of the
counter. You can just spray the box to disarm the bomb.

Bomb 4: Located on the CD connecting bridge. Head down to the bottom level of
the bridge. There are two sets of panels here that will drop out from
underneath you as you walk over them. After dropping the northern set of
panels, get just south of the opening. Equip the Coolant, crouch down and look
through the opening to see the bomb attached to the bottom of the bridge.

Bomb 5: Located in Strut D Sediment Pool. After entering this area, go north
and down the small set of stairs. Hang over the railing, drop down and catch
the bottom level railing. Pull yourself back up onto the bottom level and head
north, stopping just before you reach the staircase. You will find the bomb
attached to the bottom of the stairs.
