Updated 24Nov03: I somehow managed to forget a "Usefulness" entry for the Foot
Soldier, so I added that in there.

2) About Unlockable Playable Monsters
---
"Choose at your own risk - playable monsters are for fun only and may not be
able to complete certain levels. Each one also has a different control scheme,
can you master them all?" - Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer
That is the purpose of this guide; to tell you how to play as every single
unlockable monster hidden inside Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer.
The Unlockable Monsters are definatly unique. Each has its own control scheme,
and different ways to use them. All but two are unlocked by grabbing three
Collectable Cards, which are only dropped very rarely by that enemy type.
None of the Monsters can gain levels, pick up or use special weapons, nor can
any of them jump, or look in a direction other than they're moving. This
means, if you're attacking something, you absolutely MUST be positioned right
in front of it, otherwise your attack will miss and you'll have to wait to
recover from the attack before you can try again. Also, when any of them use a
glyph, there's no special animation showing them taking on the effects.

3) Unlockable Monster Control Schemes
---
Zombie
Description: "Shamblers, Rots, Undead, there's all kinds of different names
for these disgusting things, but they're basically the same. They may be slow
and stupid but they can take an incredible amount of damage and just keep
coming." - Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer
How to Unlock: Collect three "Zombie" Collectable Cards
Stats
Strength: 3
Speed: 1
Stamina: 3
Usefulness: 2/5
Not too useful. His lunging attacks are nice, and his kick comes in handy
occassionally. But, his lack of speed and inability to take a hit make playing
as the Rot very hard.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Lunging attack
Right Trigger: Heavy left-handed swipe
A Button: Action
B Button: Left kick
X Button: Lunging attack
Y Button: Nothing
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
Vampire
Description: "The self-proclaimed 'top of the food chain', Vampires are the
only creature that are built to hunt and kill humans. Their speed and
resilience make Vampires the ultimate predator." - Hunter: The Reckoning -
Redeemer
How to Unlock: Collect three "Vampire" Collectable Cards
Stats
Strength: 2
Speed: 3
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 4/5
Very useful. Quick, nice attacks, and even a ranged attack (even if it is kind
of weak, it still hits a large area.) Only slight downfall is her low
strength, but that can easily be made up for by using hit-and-run tactics. And
believe me, this lady can run.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Heavy, swinging left-handed swipe followed by a heavy right-left
swipe
Right Trigger: Pulls out a submachine gun, fires left to right and back, twice
A Button: Action
B Button: Lunging left thrust kick, followed by high left axe kick
X Button: Forward-jumping double bicycle kick
Y Button: Forward roll, upward swinging double axe handle
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
Foot Soldier
Description: "The lowest tier of the toxin-formed creatures, these
Footsoldiers are stronger and faster than any Rot you've encountered. Their
real strength comes from their savage intelligence." - Hunter: The Reckoning -
Redeemer
How to Unlock: Collect three "Foot Soldier" Collectable Cards
Stats
Strength: 3
Speed: 2
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 3/5
Far more useful than the Zombies or lycans. They're slow, but sturdy, even
though its big, heavy swipes might not be all that they could be. If not for
the fact that they gave the Foot Soldier a semi-long range weapon, he'd have
gotten a 2/5. But, that shotgun comes in quite handy-dandy. It's not the
quickest, it's not the prettiest, but it sure knows how to turn some stuff
into teeny little bits.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Stepping-forward heavy left swipe
Right Trigger: Stepping-forward heavy right swipe
A Button: Action
B Button: Pulls out a pump-action shotgun and fires (only the first time. The
shotgun stays out after the first use and can be fired with the B Button).
X Button: Stepping headbutt
Y Button: Nothing
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
Blade Beast
Description: "This twisted creature's speed and devastating blades are
terrifying to encounter and is unforviging in its attacks. Anything caught in
the swath of their attacks falls like wheat, be they friend or enemy. They
don't care." - Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer
How to Unlock: Collect three "Blade Beast" Collectable Cards
Stats
Strength: 4
Speed: 3
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 4/5
Very useful. His Left Trigger attack can be used evasively, and his X Button
attack can be used to cut a nice swath through the enemy. The Right Trigger
attack also has some very nice range. All-in-all, the Blade Beast can
definatly bring it.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Backflip swipe
Right Trigger: Throws right blade forward, returns momentarialy
A Button: Action
B Button: Nothing
X Button: Spinning tornado attack, moves forward a great deal unless path is
blocked
Y Button: Nothing
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
Security
Description: "Teamwork is a hunter's main advantage. When monsters team up it
sends chills up your spine. Easily the most frigntening enemy yet encountered,
Genefex security move in formation and support each other." - Hunter: The
Reckoning - Redeemer
How to Unlock: Collect three "Security" Collectable Cards
Stats
Strength: 3
Speed: 2
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 3/5
Somewhat useful. Being the only Unlockable Monster to have an Edge at its
disposal helps, and its luckily not a totally worthless Edge, either.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Walks backward slowly, fires three rounds
Right Trigger: Walks forward slowly, fires three rounds
A Button: Action
B Button: Uses "Rally" Edge (unknown level)
X Button: Fires three rounds
Y Button: Crouches, fires one heavy round
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
Throwback
Description: "The Throwback is the tank of the toxin-formed. This hulking
beast bounces bullets off it's leathery hide and is powerful enough to
withstand all but the most leathal blows." - Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer
How to Unlock: Collect three "Throwback" Collectable Cards
Stats
Strength: 5
Speed: 2
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 5/5
The Throwback is easily the coolest unlockable character. The game isn't lying
when they say he's a tank. He's strong, can take a hit, and has moves that can
clear room with some quickness. He might be slow, but being able to crush just
about everything with one hit DEFINATLY makes up for it. The only bad thing
about the Throwback is that a few of his moves have a long recovery time, so
he may be left open to attack if one of his big moves miss.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Charging tackle, ends with spinning right-left slash
Right Trigger: Charge-up heavy right slash, takes one step-forward
A Button: Action
B Button: Quick, forward-charging double slash
X Button: Low left slash
Y Button: Large concussive double axe handle to ground. Causes shockwave which
knocks just about everything down
White Button: Heavy overhand left slash
Black Button: Low right slash
Vincent
Description: No in-game description.
How to Unlock: Reach level 99 with any Hunter's Ranged skill.
Stats
Strength: 5
Speed: 3
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 2/5
Not very useful. Why does a lycan need a big knife? And, even still, how would
a lycan with a knife be so useless? Granted, he can take anything out with
ease, and can take a hit very well, but the fact that he only has two attacks -
neither with very good range or scope - really hurts. I'd much rather play as
the Throwback.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Right downward slash
Right Trigger: Left downward slash
A Button: Action
B Button: Nothing
X Button: Nothing
Y Button: Nothing
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
Were-Wolf
Description: No in-game description.
How to Unlock: Reach level 99 with any Hunter's Conviction skill.
Stats
Strength: 5
Speed: 3
Stamina: 5
Usefulness: 2/5
Not very useful. Why does a lycan need two big knifes? And, even still, how
would a lycan with two big knifes be so useless? Just like Vincent, the Were-
Wolf can take anything out with relative ease, and can take a hit very well,
but the fact that he only has three attacks - none with very good range or
scope - really hurts. The lunging bite (Left Trigger) has horrible recovery
time, as well.
Control Scheme
Left Thumbstick: Move
Right Thumbstick: Nothing
Left Trigger: Lunging bite
Right Trigger: Low right slash, high right downward slash
A Button: Action
B Button: Nothing
X Button: Left slash-right slash combo
Y Button: Nothing
White Button: Nothing
Black Button: Nothing
