Freaky Flyers

Special thanks to CBurt (Your guide helped me, but I must take it
a step further) and the cast and crew of Freaky Flyers
(what a cool game).

Descriptions are, as I understand, copyrighted. Please do not use
this guide without my permission. As Traci Torpedoes says,
"It will only make me hate you more"

This is a guide to the PlayStation2 version. I understand that
the extra characters in the XBox and Gamecube versions are
somewhat different.

1. INTRODUCTION:

Welcome to my Freaky Flyers guide. I have 100% of the tracks, and
86% of the characters. If you're looking for what each button does
or what each pickup does, then read your instruction manuel.
This is just tricks, hints, and characters.

*********
UPDATE INFO:
No sooner had I sent this FAQ in, that I discovered how to get three
out of the four characters I had left to find. It now reads 97%
of the characters unlocked.
**********

First off, normal races have six sub-goals you have to complete.
Well, you don't HAVE to, but it helps sometimes, and you unlock a
new character if you do all six and then get in first place.
Three subgoals get you additional powerup slots and the other three
open up helpful boost highways and give you the ever-powerful
Freaky Bomb pickup. For boost highways, get to the first gate and
then take your hand off of steering and the gates will
automatically zoom you to the next one.

Changing the subject a bit, if you write "Zenbu" as the name of your
file, it automatically unlock everything. However, "Cheating will
only make me hate you more". I wrote Zenbu to see what was
left to find, and then deleated it to go find it on my real game.
As anyone who read the instructions can tell you, you need to play
Adventure Mode to unlock the 30+ people. So let's get on with it then.

*****************

2. AVAILABLE ADVENTURE MODE CHARACTERS:

There are 14 adventure mode characters, but only 5 are unlocked
at the start:

Traci Torpedoes: The product of a hideous experiment by the
German Airforce called "Operation Female Bombshell", she has 100
identical sisters who, according to Gutentaag, all work in the
"entertainment industry". That little joke and Traci's..err...assets
probably helped get the game a T rating.

Mick Bungadoo: An Australian resteraunt owner, his chain of roadkill
resteraunts ("You run 'em down, we'll throw 'em on the barbie") are
hoping for a wider distribution. (The secret is in the sauce)

Pauli Atchi: Chicago's biggest crime boss, though he'll say he's a
small businessman. He poses as a sanitation engineer and is letting
his mama run the business while he races.

Johnny Turbine: The normal big handsome moron. A self-described True
Blue American Hero (actually, more like a fleshy-colored
american hero). He has Hollywood goals and a huge crush on Traci
along with Sheik Abdul.

Myrna Bookbottom: A british librarian who's very polite and timid,
but when angered turns into Margaret Basher, a very violent lady.
Both personalities have crushes on a different Marcel Moreso brother.

********************

3. BIGFOOT MOUNTAIN:

The first track in adventure mode and the easiest to navigate,
it takes you through a Canadian forest.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Andre LaToilette: A big stinky French-Canadian who spent his
childhood enslaving squirrels. He wants a brother, and eventually
finds out that Johnny Turbine is his long-lost twin (though they look
almost nothing alike). To get him, shoot down a snowman in front of
the high house when you first start the race. He can be played in
Adventure Mode.

Atomic Andre: Andre LaToilette dressed as his character in the
movie "The Atomic Twins go to Mars and Rescue a Girl". To get him,
you must place in first and complete all six subgoals.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Acorns: Collect about 20-something acorns floating
around the track to bring you another powerup slot.

2. Shoot the Targets: Targets will be hanging off trees and you must
shoot at least 8 of them to open up another powerup slot.

3. Shoot Down the Trees: There are trees that are almost chewed
through. Shoot them to knock them down to unlock the Red boost highway
located behind the house where you unlock Andre. If a racer is
under a falling tree, it's instant death so shoot down trees on top
of other racers when you can and avoid them yourself.

4. Return Bigfoot to His Family: Instead of going through the
waterfront town, go into a small ice cave and pick up the Bigfoot.
You'll see his family at a campfire near the finish line, so drop him
off there and follow the Green boost highway you just opened up to
the finish line.

5. Destroy the Long Jam: After picking up Bigfoot and coming back to
the track, you'll see a dam. Shoot it and destroy it to unlock the
Blue boost highway in the next clearing.

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and shoot
down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

*****************

4. COYOTE CANYON:

A bit more difficult, but easy once you know where everything is.
This one is set in the southwest.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Cactus Rose: A mexican bandita who robs from the rich and gives to
the poor...members of her gang. To get her, swoop down to the
western town at the beginning of the race and shoot her down
from the gallows. She can be played in Adventure Mode.

La Diabla Chiquita: Before becoming a bandit, Cactus Rose was a
Mexican wrestler. To get her, you must place in first and complete
all six subgoals.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Horseshoes: Collect 20-something of the horseshoes
floating around to open up another powerup slot.

2. Shoot the Mailbags: at least 8 of the mailbags on the side of the
railroad to open up another powerup slot.

3. Save the Sheriff: In the beginning western town, you'll see three
villains shooting at a sheriff in a horse pen. Shoot those three down
to open up the Red boost highway, which is located in the canyon
behind the town (read, at the end of each lap)

4. Save the Damsel: A Damsel in Distress is hopping away from the
train. Swoop her up at any point in the lap and drop her in the
western town to open up the Green boost highway located near the mines.

5. Stampede the Cows: Once you get to the Hatfield/McCoy fueding
houses, go to your left and you'll find a herd of cows and a bucking
red bull (it'll give you wings: Angel wings if you get too close).
Shoot the bull and it'll cause the cows to stampeded to the nearby
Indian (err...Native American) reservation where you can use the
newly-opened Blue boost highway.

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and shoot
down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

*******************

5. BANDITO ATTACK!:

You must protect the fort from the bloodthirsty Banditos! These
little gremlins are small, but annoying. Slwoly circle the fort and
shoot down all the Bandtitos, and then go for any of their hideouts.
I suggest going for the ones you can see first and then go for the
hidden ones. Always be around the fort when the resuppliers arrive
so you can shoot down any Banditos before they kill a resupplier.
The resuppliers restore the fort's health, while shooting the chicken
restores your own health.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Atomic Johnny: Johnny Turbine dressed as his character in the movie
"The Atomic Twins go to Mars and Rescue a Girl". To get him, find a
cave near the railroad track and locate the "New Character" pickup.
That is, it looks like a regular pickup except there's an "FF" shield
where the question mark would normally be.

Stewardess Traci: Traci Torpedoes in her stewerdess outfit. To get
her, you must score at least 50000 points on this. To do this, you
must not only destroy all of the hidouts, but also all the gattling
guns. You must also make sure you finish within three and a half
minutes with at or around 100% of your fort's health and all three of
your own lives remaining. I do not suggest attempting this until you
are comfortible with the level and where everything is.

*******************

6. THUGSVILLE:

This is supposed to be Chicago. I recently visited Chicago for a
school function (in fact, I bought this game with the leftover cash)
and it looks nothing like this.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Margaret Basher: The Mr. Hyde to Myrna Bookbottom's Dr. Jekyll. I
like her sunglasses a lot. To get her, look under the bridge and
shoot a box with the british flag on it. She can be played in
Adventure Mode, though her cutscenes are the same as Myrna's.

Sanitation Pauli: Okay, I have no idea what's so special about this.
This is Pauli Atchi in lesiure gear instead of a suit. To get him,
you must place in first and complete all six subgoals.

Wally Gremlin: A gargoyle-like critter with an adorable Gizmo voice.
To get him, find a "New Character" pickup by following the railroad
to the right.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Moneybags: Collect 20-something of the Moneybags
floating around to get a new powerup slot.

2. Shoot the Trashcans: Trashcans with eyes litter the area. Shoot at
least 8 of them to open up another powerup slot.

3. Stop the Bank Heist: At the bank, not far from where you start,
there are five getaway cars. Shoot them all to unlock the Red boost
highway on the other side of the building.

4. Save the Slums: The projects are on fire and you must shoot the
three fire hydrants to unlock the Blue boost highway near the bridge.

5. Save the Police Chief: Someone gave the Police Chief cement shoes
and left him at the edge of the bridge. Pick him up and return him to
the Police station to unlock the Green boost highway in your
line of fire.

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and
shoot down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

********************

7. CAVE OF BLUNDERS:

Being a fan of Aladdin, I really like this name. This one is easy to
get used to, but it helps if you won the last races. Little tip: It
doesn't matter where in the sandstorm you enter. It'll spit you out
in the exact same place.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Shiek Abdul: An oil billionaire, depending on today's price of oil.
He is so whipped that his global company, "His & Harem Inc", is
really controlled by his harem. A harem, by the way, that he wants to
add Traci Torpedoes to. To get him, swoop down in the city and shoot
down his executioner. He can be played in Adventure Mode.

Chicken Hut Shiek: Shiek Abdul in a chicken outfit hocking his
reseraunt, Humpy's Chicken Hut, that he was forced to open after
being downsized (read: after his harem kicked him out). To get him,
you must place in first and complete all six subgoals.

Harem Dogfighter: One would think this was part of the Shiek's harem,
but the berger is different in color and style. To get her, go into
the right opening of the castle and use the hallway to get back to
the center, picking up a "New Character" pickup on the way.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Scarabs: Collect 20-something of the golden scarabs
floating around to open up a new pickup slot.

2. Shoot the Thieves: Shoot down at least 8 of the infamous
40 thieves to open up a new pickup slot.

3. Save the Princess: In the room with the pendulums, pick the
Princess up from the tower and return her to the harem room (the left
opening of the castle) to unlock the Green boost highway on that side.
Also, going through that room will restore part of your health.

4. Defeat the Genie: The genie is not hard to miss. Shoot his lamp to
unlock the Blue boost highway. On the lap after you defeat the Genie,
do a dive in the same room until you see the gate in a hole in the
tower.

5. Defeat the Gladiators: What a Roman colesieum is doing in Arabia
is beyond me. Shoot all three weak gladiators to unlock the Red boost
highway which starts out one of the colesium "doors".

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and
shoot down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

*******************

8. INTESTINAL TRACK:

Actually, this takes place in the bloodstream. Professor Gutentaag has
shrunken your racer and you must find your way through the vein and
out of the nose. All the while, you must pick up the blue oxygen
cells to live. If your oxygen runs out, your health steadily
decreases until you find more or die. In addition, invincible white
blood cells will crash into your racer, so you have to dodge them. If
a long brown structure suddenly juts out of the wall, shoot the head
of it quickly or else it will emit a damaging green gas. There is an
alternate path you can take about halfway through the course. If you
take it, you'll get out faster, but you'll miss out on the much needed
health pickup, so I'd advise against going that way.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Chef Mick: Mick Bungadoo in a chef hat and apron. To get him, find a
"New Character" pickup somewhere among the colesterol fields.

Monkey Pie: A monkey in a top hat riding a pie. I don't know, I don't
wanna know. To get him, you must place a score of at least 50000. That
means you must get out of there in a timely fashion without one
scratch or one life lost. While this should be your goal anyway, don't
get mad if you can't finish like that the first time. Just get on with
the Adventure Mode and take this one on again when you're ready. The
health pickup mentioned earlier will help immensely for this goal.

*******************

9. DANGER ISLAND:

A nice little island paradise. Shoot the simply adorable Voodoo
Macy's Day Parade Balloon versions of the characters to do damage to
that particular character. I think the Pilot X doll damages any
non-Adventure-Mode racer.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Island Jack: A short little rasta mon. Very easy-going and likeable.
The chief had to stuff him in a sack to get into the race, though. To
get him, shoot the yellow snake near the monkey temple. He can be
played in Adventure Mode.

Lt. Island Jack: Jack in his army uniform. Another one of those
sack-stuffing recrutments. To get him, you must place in first and
complete all six subgoals.

Andrew B. Pirate: He looks like Yosemite Sam, but his voice is
very...shall we say...efemminite? To get him, fly above the jungle
and look for a small lagoon to your right. It's very secluded, and
close to one of the waterfalls (I forget which), but it has a
"New Character" pickup.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Banannas: Collect 20-something of the banannas
floating around to open a new pickup slot.

2. Shoot the Tiki Masks: The masks have bullseyes on them like the
other "shoot these" goals, so you can't see the faces. Shoot down at
least 8 to open up a new pickup slot.

3. Shoot the Crimson Pirate Ship: Shoot down the pirate ship with the
red sails to unlock the Red boost highway on the shore.

4. Return the Monkey Gem: Pick up the gem at the pygmy village
(under the voodoo dolls) and returtn it to the statue of the ape in
the jungle to unlock the Green boot highway through the temple.

5. Defeat the Sea Hag Sisters: After the voodoo dolls, there are
three Sea Hags. Shoot down all three to unlock the Blue boost highway
through the volcano.

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and
shoot down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

**********************

10. MONSTER ISLE:

A Tokyo themed track is pretty easy to win straight, but gets harder
when trying to complete the subgoals.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Sammy Wasabi: A small super-genius from Japan, he builds planes so
complicated that only he can fly them. He is a mean little prankster,
though. To get him, save him from the ninjas at the temple. He can be
played in Adventure Mode.

Sambot 5000: The robot version of Sammy Wasabi resembles Metalhead
from TMNT. To get him, To get him, you must place in first and
complete all six subgoals.

Chester Moneymaker: A Hollywood executive complete with sunglasses
and ponytail. To get him, search behind the buildings on the left
side of the city for a "New Character" pickup.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Fish: Collect 20-something of the fish floating
around to open a new powerup slot.

2. Shoot the Fireworks: Shooting the little presents will not only
damage other racers in thier path, but shooting at least 8 will open
a new powerup slot.

3. Shoot Down the Rubber-Suited Monsters: Actually, these monsters
are very realistic except for the gigantic zipper. There are three: a
Godzilla-like one romaing the city streets, a Mantis-like one in the
ancient village, and a Ghedrah-like one over the crator. Shoot down
all three to unlock the Red boost highway on the left side of the city.

4. Collect the Freakymon: This is very difficult to do and still stay
in the lead. There are five Frakymon: A slug in the city, a frog/bird
in the ancient village, a catlike one on one of the mountian paths, a
Pikachu ripoff behind the finish line, and one on fire in the crator.
Catch 'em all to unlock the Blue boost highway in the bamboo forest
to the left of the temple.

5. Return Robo-Guy's Batteries: On a building on a ledge right outside
the ancient village are some batteries. Return them to the robot on
the ledge above the city to unlock the Green boost highway, which is
located on an alternate path to the left of the ancient village
(the starting gate is somewhere before that).

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and
shoot down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

********************

11. TORPEDO RUN:

I love the song to this one so very very much. Okay, so Gutentaag is
at it again. This time, you must protect your aircraft carrier from
enemy ships. Pick up a torpedo and do either an Immelman or a
Loop-The-Loop to fire the thing (refer to the stunts section of your
manuel). I suggest using the Immelman because it automatically turns
you around. Stay close to the carrier and defeat the three support
ships and the submarine. Submarines fire torpedoes, but if you fly
into it with yours, it'll be safe. Just be precise. Anyway, after
those are destroyed just keep picking up torpedoes and shooting them
towards the gap between the rocks where the enemy ships come from.
If your aim is good, then you'll take down a few of the ships before
they reach the carrier. Repeat this process until another sub attacks.
After that sub, things get muckey. Keep trying to shoot the torpedoes
and do it quickly because the final ships shoot the hell out of the
carrier and there are no resuppliers this time. If flying monkeys
attack, don't go after them. Just shoot whichever ones are in your
way as you head for the ships. Supports and subs take about two hits
each, and the two capitol ships take a lot more. Just like at the fort,
shooting the chicken will restore your health

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Professor Gutentaag: The wild-haired genius and cuckoo clock mogul
from Swizerland, he flies his custom robot Sven 209. Sven is a nice
guy, but Gutentaag is nasty. He has allied with Pilot X to win the
race. To get him, shoot down his yellow submarine behind the rocks to
the left of the carrier. He can be played in Adventure Mode.

Monkey & Sven: A monkey in a lab coat riding Sven 209. To get him,
you must score at least 50000 points. That means that aside from
sinking the ships, you must also destroy all the gun turrets on the
ships. You must complete this task with all three of your lives and
within five minutes or so. I do not suggest attempting this until you
are comfortible with the level and where everything is.

*************************

12. BOMBSBURG:

War-Torn Germany. Looks like something from WWII. This is a difficult
race, but you can handle it once you know the layout.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Marcels Moreso: Three words: Siamese Twin Mimes. That's all you need
to know. To get them, find them inside one of the damaged buildings
and try shooting them. They can be played in Adventure mode.

Marcel Clowns: The Marcel Moreso brothers dressed up as clowns.
To get them, you must place in first and complete all six subgoals.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Medals: Collect 20-Something of the medals floating
around to open a new powerup slot.

2. Shoot the Ammo Cans: Shoot at least 8 of the metal boxes with the
targets to open a new powerup slot.

3. Save the French POWs: I bet you think that means Prisoners of War,
but no! It means Poodles of War! Shoot down the two lookout towers
near the Poodle Pen to unlock the Blue boost highway.

4. Deliver the Secret Documents: After the Poodles of War, stay low
to the ground and go through the green debris. In one of them to the
right, is some secret spy documents. Go as you would normally go and
deliver them to a spy poodle standing in the middle of the track
after a speed boost. This unlocks the Green boost highway located in
a clearing before the dropoff point.

5. Open the Passage: In the first machene place, shoot the three
switches to open a secret passage and the Red boost highway. I suggest
doing this after returning the documents, as the passage bypasses the
dropoff point.

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and
shoot down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

**********************

13. GRAVE DANGER:

It's interesting that this turned out to be the 13th chapter as it's
the most frustrating race in the game if you don't know what you're
doing. I remember spending hours on this one race, each racer
seemingly faster than me, and then me only winning a few seconds
before I had to turn the stupid game off and go to bed or else! It's
#@$%&* midnight! Oh...sorry. Anyway, once I found the boost highways,
however, it was a snap. This is obviously a Transylvanian-themed race
with many twists and turns.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Baron Von Slaughter: A poorly-assembled Frankenstien monster with
Arnold Swarzenegger's voice. To get him, find his grave on the left
side of the graveyeard and shoot it down. He can be played in
Adventure Mode.

Human Baron: If Baron Von Slaughter was human, he's look like this.
To get him, you must place in first and complete all six subgoals.

Olga Von Slaughter: The Baron's wife. A Bride-of-Frankenstien ripoff.
To get her, Follow the Blue boost highway to the left of the moat and
go through the cave where you'll find a "New Character" pickup.

SUBGOALS:

1. Collect the Skulls: Collect 20-something of the skulls floating
around to open a new powerup slot.

2. Shoot the Scarecrows: Shoot down at least 8 of the scarecrows to
open a new powerup slot.

3. Push the Swamp Beast Over the Moat: Okay, instead of going through
the Sleepy Hollow covered bridge, go to the right into the swamp.
You'll see the swamp beasts back. Shoot that, and keep shooting the
beast until he falls off into the castle moat, unlocking the Blue
boost highway. Now, you could use the blue boosts that go into the
castle, but I prefer to use the ones in the moat that lead underneeth.
It also gets you a better shot at the next subgoal...

4. Defeat the Spider Queen: This big mama is in the courtyard and
takes over two full rounds of machene gun ammo to beat. This is why
it's imperitive to have either rockets, or a homing missile you can
fire right next to her to kill her quickly and keep your place.
Beating her unlocks the Green boost highway. Go through the library,
and use the green boosts in the secret passage.

5. Defeat the Necromancer and his Skeleton Army: This is pretty
straightforward. Four Giant Skeletons roam the graveyeard. Shoot them
all down to lower the Necromancer's shield. Then shoot down the
Necromancer over the portal to unlock the Red boost highway that you
can use in the village.

6. Shoot the Fellow Racers: As always, become a flying ace and
shoot down enough racers to open the fourth powerup slot.

***********************

14. X:

Here it is. Pilot X used his disguise and challenged you to a battle
in OUTER SPACE! But he's not using his regular saucer racer, he's
riding a giant robot. No biggie. There are three attacks:

1. Pilot X summons two flying saucers and then holds a glowing yellow
ball which he throws to reveal a laser mine field. Shoot down the
saucers and go through the circular holes in the grid. Using the
sharp turn (holding L1 while flying in any direction) really helps
here.

2. Then, Pilot X holds a red ball which he throws. The ball becomes
several attack drones that shoot at you. If you destroy entire waves
of them without them charging you, then you get a rocket. They do
slightly more damage to Pilot X than an entire machene gun clip.
There are three formations of drones. The first type has two vertical
lines of three drones each. The second has several drones circling
one in the middle. The third has several variations of just random
flight. I suggest blasting away all the drones in the first two
formations and avoiding the drones in the third. The rockets I save
for when Pilot X is in the red area.

3. When he recieves enough damage, Pilot X spazzes and charges you.
If you get caught in the charge, it means instant death. The best way
to avoid this attack is to try and stay high and then when you see
him freak, quickly climb all the way up until it says "too high". If
it works, he will charge right under you causing no damage. Descend a
little bit until Pilot X crashes through the planet ring some ways
ahead.

Effectively dodge these attacks and shoot at Pilot X whenever you get
a shot, and he should go within ten minutes or less.

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS:

Pilot X: The self-proclaimed finest aviator in the galaxy, the
sinister-looking Pilot X has the voice of a whiny teenager who yells
all the time. He's a master of disguise, but is (comically, I may add)
too sure of his own abilities. To get him, simply win this mini-game.

******************

15. ODDS & ENDS:

So you've won adventure mode. You've unlocked the first jukebox, as
well as several characters. But wait! To unlock all of the hilarious
cutscenes, you must beat adventure mode with all the players available
there. Win Adventure Mode a second time to open the second jukebox.

ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS:

Bigfoot: This is Bigfoot riding Andre's log plane. I thought he had
something to do with Bigfoot Mt., but I've combed that entire area
and could find not a single "New Character" pickup. Hmm...Also, the
other characters that used to be in this section I found by getting a
perfect score on the mini games in adventure mode. Is it possible I
need a 50000 from "X"? Gosh, I hope not.

FINAL WORD FROM PILOT X:

"AHA! As usual, I have outsmarted YET ANOTHER OPPONANT! You can NEVER
defeat me: PILOT X! If sales are good, I'LL BE BACK! And if they're
not, I'LL COME BACK ANYWAY! JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE! I'll be back, you
puny evolved monkey! DO YOU HEAR ME?! I'll be baaaaaaaaaaa*gets hit
by an asteroid*"
