I already FAQed SNKs first game Ozma Wars so why not FAQ Capcom's first game as
well which is Vulgus. This came out in 1984 and it also marked the debut of a
famous item we know as the Yashichi but it was an enemy in this game.
Here's another fun fact. Most of you may have known about the so called rivalry
of SNK and Capcom but did you know that SNK actually published this game in the
USA? It's amazing how they teamed up years earlier than the their alliance in
21st century.

You use the joystick to move in any direction of course. There are 2 buttons.
One of them is your fire button which you do continously and one is a limited
supply of bombs that are really missiles that go through small enemies and rack
up bonus points.
Yashichi - a red circle with a ninja star. It is commonly seen in various games
made by Capcom to give the player a major boost but in Vulgus, it is your enemy
so don't bpther trying to "collect" it.
Vulgus - this was really the only enemy that had a true name in the game. The
Yashichi was not named till further games came out. The Vulgus is the boss of
the game. It looks like a rock with miniture rocks surrounding it as if flies
around the screen. Defeating this is more or less considered beating the game
as the background layout starts over again.
Minienemies - All they will do is fly around and occasionally fire bullets or
try to ram into you
Mega Enemies - They take many shots to destroy but one cannon will destroy them
instantly.
You have no continues in this game and only one hit can destroy you. Avoid some
combat as much as possible if you want to get far.
On the other hand, if you just playing for points then try to shoot any enemy
in sight without getting killed.
When you see a formation, refrain from using a canon to kill the last of the
formation. all you will get is points for using the cannon. What you want to do
is get close but avoid being hit by the bullets and fire as fast as you can.
The background shifts from land to outer space throughout the game. On land,
you face the opposition full force. In space, you will fight only a series of
formations with an accompanying megaenemy one at a time. Use this time to rack
up serious points. There are times where you will also be fighting over some
icy land.
The layouts look like this to see how you are progressing. Dirt, space, jungle,
space, ice, space, defeat the Vulgus and begin again.
The black squares appear in the later part of the game. Shoot them while they
are spinning because they are hard to kill when they become a square and there
is a risk of crashing into them.
Don't worry bout trying to beat the game. There is no ending. The game is just
going to increase in difficulty till all lives are lost. But you can prolong
that with enough points to earn an extra life. However, the end point can be
considered beating the Vulgus.
To defeat the Vulgus (A volcanic rock), shoot at it while avoiding the rocks
it shoots at you and watch out as the rocks shoot bullets at you too.
