III.INTRODUCTION
This guide will assume the reader is familiar with the mechanics of Undertale.
During the story the captain of the Royal Guard serves as the boss of the
waterfall area. No matter the route the player takes Undyne will fight the
player after the last encounter with the Monster Kid.
However when the player is following the Genocide Route, having killed all
Monsters and Boss, leaving nothing left alive (this is when no monsters spawn
on encounters) Undyne intervenes to protect the Monster Kid from being slain.
Undyne's DETERMINATION brings her back from the brink of death and transforms
her into her powerful form, Undyne the Undying.
While Undyne the Undying shares many properties and characteristics with her
normal form in battle, she is much harder. Possessing an incredible amount of
HP, defense, and offense Undyne is the first true challenge of the Genocide
Route, second only to Sans.

IV. PREPARATION
Equip the armor and weapon of your choice. While a high defense and offense
are great for shortening the battle one cannot overlook the extra
invulnerability offered by the Torn Notebook and Cloudy Glasses as this will
enable you more time to recover after taking a hit. In the end Undying is only
beatable if you can avoid attacks, taking a little longer to do so may help
some players out.
For healing items, Crab Apples all the way, fill the inventory with them. You
can get them from Gerson right before the fight too. You can use items such
as the Cinnamon Bunny, Abandoned Quiche, Astronaut Food, or Snowman Piece too
if you have them as they heal more then Crab Apple. However from the save right
before Undyne the shop of Gerson is the only one you can access. It is
recommend the Butterscotch Pie is put in a box for the fight against Sans as
it cannot be replaced once used.

V. BATTLE MECHANICS
As with her normal battle Undyne will periodically put the player's SOUL in
green mode, forcing the player to stay stationary and block projectiles with
a shield from above, below, the left, and the right.
While in green SOUL mode, Undyne uses two types of spear attacks (looking like
arrow).
Type 1 - Blue spear arrows. The fly at the player's SOUL, and except for wave 6
(see below) they turn red when they are next to strike the player.
Type 2-- Yellow spear arrows. These approach the player's SOUL but as they get
close they flip around to the other side. So a yellow spear arrow coming from
the top of the screen has to be blocked from the bottom.
Periodically, and for the end of the fight, the player is returned to their
normal red SOUL mode allowing free movement. During these phases Undyne will
throw normal shaped spears at the player that have to be dodged to avoided
damage.
To end the battle against Undyne the Undying one has to defeat all 23,000 of
her HP.

VI. BATTLE WAVES
The directions given in patterns are the direction the player must block.
Yellow spear attacks are written in (parentheses) and must be block in the
mentioned direction though they will seem to come from the other side of the
screen first.
Wave 1
Undyne starts off easy with three attacks from above. Then she rapidly throws
attacks going counter clockwise and then clockwise. Its a simple attack the
player can use to get use to or reuse to Undyne's style of combat.
Pattern: Up Up Up Right Down Left Up Left Down Right Down Left Up
Wave 2
This attack is a rapid onslaught from the left and right only. The attacks will
vary between one and two direction at a time, designed to get the player into a
rhythm then punish them for it. Do not rely on consistency in the attack count.
Pattern: Left Right Left Left Right Right Left Right Right Left Right Left
Right Left
Wave 3
This wave has no predefined pattern. Instead it will feature a large number of
attacks moving very slowly. Usually in some optical illusion like pattern to
throw the player off. Rely on which direction the red arrow is on solely. It
can be very difficult to guess the next direction.
Wave 4
Undyne has returned you to red SOUL mode, allowing you to move around. But
she'll make up for letting you move with a furious assault of spears from every
direction. Keep track of where they are and move around to dodge. Remember the
spears will travel across the whole bullet board so you can't just move away
from them.
Author's Personal Tip: I have found a stop/go pattern of movement the most
effective at dodging spears as it causes several to aim for the same spot.
Wave 5
Undyne shrinks the bullet board to minuscule size, 3 SOULs wide and maybe 4 or
5 SOULs tall. You'll want to stay on the top side as spears will fly up from
the bottom on the left, right, or center. Each spear pokes out the bottom of
the bullet board slowly then rushes up and off screen. Only one is thrown at a
time so use their slow emergence as your cue for where to move.
Wave 6
Back in green SOUL mode its time to shield again. This is a powerful deception
attack. The normal red spear indicator is off, as there can be more then one at
once, and the red frequently moves slowly while blue spears assault you from all
directions quickly. There is no set pattern to this attack, though the first
spear will usually come from the left or right to stay onscreen longer.
Wave 7
This is a very rapid series of attacks. The moment you finish with one
direction you'll need to move your shield. It alternates between several from
the top and then a lone spear from the left or right. The number from the top
changes at one point to throw you off.
Pattern: Up Up Up Up Left Up Up Up Up Up Right Up Up Up Left Up Up Up Right Up
Up Up
Wave 8
This wave Undyne brings out yellow spears. Its a simple alternating pattern
between left and up, then the yellow spears seem to follow the same pattern but
remember its reversed so it becomes alternating right and down
Pattern: Left Up Left Up Left Up Left Up (Right) (Down) (Right) (Down) (Right)
(Down)
Wave 9
Undyne has returned you to red SOUL mode and given you quite the expansive
bullet board to move around on. But this is one of her harder waves to avoid.
Groups of six spears surround you, then close in while spinning clockwise or
counterclockwise. You have to move between the spears as they spin before they
close in too much. The good news is the spears don't travel the length of the
bullet board as once all six meet in the middle of their circle they dissapear.
But halfway through one circle's lifespan the next will form so keep moving.
Wave 10
Same as the last wave.
Wave 11
Green SOUL mode again. Undyne will use four yellow, four normal, and then four
yellow spears again. Each group runs in a circular pattern, the first two groups
run counter clockwise and the final runs clockwise. Also the second group
starts with the same direction as the first and the third starts with a
continuation of the second's pattern.
Pattern: (Left) (Down) (Right) (Up) Up Left Down Right (Up) (Right) (Left)
(Down)
Wave 12
This wave consists of four groups of four. Each group is left then right. Then
up or down, varying. The fourth looks to be the opposite of the third but its a
yellow spear so its actually the same.
Pattern: Left Right Up (Up) Left Down Right Down (Down) Left Right Up (Up) Left
Right Down (Down)
Wave 13
Alternating between normal and yellow spears Undyne does a pretty simple
pattern. Every normal spear will be followed by a yellow that has to be blocked
in the opposite direction of the normal before it.
Pattern: Left (Right) Down (Up) Right (Left) Up (Down) Left (Right) Down (Up)
Right (Left)
Wave 14
The last green SOUL mode wave. That's right, this is it. This is pretty much a
repeat of wave 3, but there are a lot more spears to block. Again pay attention
to which direction the red spear is from and you can block all of them, the
last three don't even make it to you.
Wave 15
This looks like a repeat of wave 9 but instead the spears don't spin, they
instead linger a moment and then rush at you. They also fire in much more rapid
succession. The spears against fade out quickly after intersecting, but move
about one spear length beyond the meeting point. The angles will vary rapidly
so you'll need to think quick on which direction will let you escape danger and
doesn't box you against the wall of the bullet board.
Author's Personal Tip: Again I find a stop and go strategy works best. Dodge,
pause, dodge, pause, and so on.
Wave 16
This is now a repeat of waves 9 and 10. But the spears move a bit faster,
making it harder to dodge. Same strategy though.
Wave 17
This is a repeat of wave 4, but again Undyne is picking up the pace of her
attacks. There are more spears and they fly at you faster. Keep moving and
dodging.
Wave 18
A repeat of wave 5 again, no real changes.
From this point on Undyne will go back to wave 15 and repeat the pattern until
she, or you, dye. If its you, prepare to do this all over again. If its her,
congratulations you've beaten the second hardest boss in the game.
