"Every light casts a shadow. Yet within the depths of that shadow, there is
light.

Yin and Yang, good and evil, light and dark...The balance of those elements is
what keeps the world in harmony. And those who live as shinobi must not diturb
that balance..

Or so they say.

But evil can easily consume good, and good can fall to evil.

Our elders treat the principles of balance like a sacred commandment, but I
believe that balance was corrupted long ago. Now, it is little more than a
decorative, hollow concept; a flimsy shield against the obvious truth.

I have never seen evil turn to good. I have never seen 'light in the darkness.'
Not once in my entire life.

This story I weave is about our own fight to protect the good in the world.
About a lifelong struggle against the darkness, in the name of a better
tomorrow.

A world where everyone can always be happy and safe...That is our dream."

~Introduction~

Hello and welcome to my guide for Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus. For those of
you not familiar with the Senran Kagura series, it's about several groups of
shinobi in training and the dangers and adventures they face in their line of
duty. Although the series features an almost entirely female cast and focuses
heavily on fanservice, it has managed to win many people over through a
combination of it's surprisingly decent storyline and interesting characters
with a nice amount of depth outside of their large...assets.

This guide is meant to give you a general overview of the game and it's
features, as well as a run down on the characters and tips and tricks that you
may find useful for them. The missions in the game themselves are actually
rather straightforward with clear objectives and there is no real way to walk
you through them step by step since they mostly focus on beating up enemies as
they appear. Advice will be given at times but for the most part you'll have to
rely on your own skill and reflexes to succeed.

As another note, I'll be writing the guide in the order I cleared the stories.
You can pick which story you want to play at will (though Homura's Group must
be unlocked first) and even stop mid-way through one story and start another.
So don't feel as if you have to play the game in the same order I did.

At the time of writing this guide it is actually my third time playing through
the game, this time with the English version. Terms and names will be referred
to as they appear in the localized script to avoid causing any confusion.

Without further ado I hope you enjoy your trip into the world of Senran Kagura
and have as much fun as I did!

~General Questions~

Q: What is Senran Kagura?
A: Senran Kagura is a series of video games developed by Tamsoft and published
by Marvelous Entertainment, featuring a cast of female shinobi and the dangers
and trials they face in their line of duty. The first game, Senran Kagura:
Skirting Shadows, was released on the 3DS in Japan on September 22 2011. Since
then the popularity of the series has grown rapidly and it has been followed up
with several more titles and expanded into other media. For a while it was
uncertain if the series would ever leave Japan due to it's questionable content
and the issue of differing views in other countries, but thanks to the
wonderful people of XSEED the series finally made its debut overseas in 2013.

Q: How many games are in the series?
A: The first game, Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows, was released for the 3DS in
Japan on September 22, 2011. It was followed up by another game called Senran
Kagura Burst in 2012 which served as an expansion for the first game featuring
an expanded storyline and making the girls of the Hebijo Academy playable. The
series had its debut on the Playstation Vita on Feburary 2013 with Senran
Kagura Shinovi Versus, a sequel/side story taking place after Burst.

In 2014, the series recieved two more games. A Cooking/Rhythm game on
Playstation Vita known as Senran Kagura Dekamori, and a direct sequel to Burst
on 3DS known as Senran Kagura 2: Shinku. Another game known as Senran Kagura
Estival Versus is scheduled for release on Playstation Vita and Playstation 4
in 2015. It will be a follow-up to Shinovi Versus.

An Android/iOS card game known as Senran Kagura: NewWave was released on
Feburary 2013 which features an expanded cast of characters to the Senran
Kagura universe.

Burst, Shinovi Versus, and Dekamori have all been localized outside of Japan.

Q: What are the games like?
A: The Senran Kagura video games are best described as fast-paced action games
or beat em' ups with a high emphasis on maintaining a large combo count and
aerial combat. The frantic and fast-paced action combined with the signature
fanservice the series is known for has managed to win over many fans both in
and outside of Japan.

The story in the games progress in a visual novel esque manner in which the
viewpoints switch between the main characters between missions to really give
you a good look at what a character feels and is thinking at the time. This
style of story telling manages to add a surprising amount of depth and
backstory to the many characters in the series and makes the games stand out as
more than just another fanservice series.

Q: Do I need to play Burst to understand/enjoy Shinovi Versus?
A: Kind of. Although Shinovi Versus takes place after Burst, it isn't
considered part of the "main" storyline and is more of a side story. Not to say
that the game skimps on the story or character development at all because of
this or the events aren't considered canon.

Timeline wise, the games would go,
Burst - Shinku - Shinovi Versus

Shinku picks up directly after Burst ends while Shinovi Versus takes place six
months after the events of Burst.

But to answer the original question, while the game can be enjoyed without
having played Burst first, you still miss out on several things. References are
made to the events of Burst including several key plot points. You also miss
out on most of the character development from Burst as well as how the
friendships and rivalries started between the Hanzo girls and the Hebijo girls.
If possible it would be in your best interest to play Burst before playing this
just to get a full appreciation of the returning characters.

Q: Is the anime a good substitute for playing Burst?
A: I have not watched the anime myself so I can't say, but from what I've heard
it doesn't do an accurate job of retelling the story in Burst. I've also heard
that some characters in the anime aren't developed as well as they were in the
game, some backgrounds were changed, and a major even dies when they do not die
in the game. If you want to use the anime as a substitute that's on you, but be
aware that what happens in the anime may not follow the actual canon.

Q: How many playable characters are in the game?
A: There are four teams of girls with five members each for a total of 20. Two
more characters are available as DLC only, bringing the total of playable
characters to 22.

Q: Are there any males playable?
A: In this game and Burst, no. In Shinku, Murasame, the older brother of
Ikaruga, is playable through DLC, making him the first playable male in the
series.

Q: Who are the best characters in the game?
A: It's tough to say. Each of the characters have their own strengths and
weaknesses and there aren't any I would call especially bad. You'll be able to
make it through any mission with your favorite girl provided your skills are up
to par and they're leveled high enough.

Daidoji and Rin, the two DLC characters, do get a special mention though. Both
are incredibly strong stat wise compared to every other character and have
advantages that make them extremely broken against pretty much any enemy.
Daidoji is incredibly powerful and has armor on most of her moves, allowing her
to tank through damage without flinching and destroy enemies in only a few
hits. Rin is incredibly fast and her moves cover a wide range and deal multiple
hits rapidly, allowing her to clear out enemies and strip bosses with little
effort.

Q: Who is your favorite character?
A: Hikage, forever and always.

~Controls~

~Basic Controls

Square: Weak Attack. Press multiple times to combo.
Triangle: Strong Attack
Hold Triangle: Breach Art/Guardbreaker
Square while airborne: Weak aerial attack/Launcher
Triangle while airborne: Strong aerial/dive attack
Tap Circle: Short Dash. Can be used to cancel a combo and dodge. Causes some
characters to backstep.
Hold Circle: Long Dash
X: Jump. Double jump by pressing X again in mid-air.

Left analog: Move character
Right analog: Move camera
Up on D-Pad: Lock-on to nearest target. Can also be done by tapping an enemy on
the touch screen.
Down on D-Pad: Limit Break. Causes your character to release a burst of energy
and knock back enemies. Mainly used for escaping combos or when surrounded.
Consumes 10% of your current health and can not be done if health is too low.
Hold Up on D-Pad: Taunt. Extends time on combo hits.

R: Guard. Guard can be broken after enough hits.
L: Shinobi Transformation. Requires at least one bar of your Ninja Art gauge.

~Advanced Moves

Parry: Press R right before an enemy's attack lands to pull off a Parry and
temporarily stun them and also gain one bar of your Ninja Art gauge.

Aerial Rave: Certain attacks (usually combo enders and Breach Arts) will launch
an enemy away into the air and cause a green ring to appear. Pressing O after
this ring appears will cause your character to quickly pursue the enemy through
the air and allow you to continue your combo. The amount of times you can
perform an Aerial Rave in a row increases as you level up.

Aerial Clash: When performing an Aerial Rave against a Boss enemy, the two
characters will enter a mid-air clash for dominance. To win this clash you must
press the buttons rapidly while spinning the analog stick to increase the clash
gauge and overpower your enemy. If done right then the Boss will be blown back
allowing you to continue your combo. If failed you will be blown back instead.

Shinobi Transformation: Press L to activate and have at least one bar of Ninja
Art gauge. Changes your costume and boosts your stats as well as changes your
moveset and grants you access to Shinobi Arts. Also restores your life. Once
you transform you can not go back to your normal form until the mission ends.

Frantic Mode: While holding R, touch the middle of the screen with two fingers
and slide them outwards or press Triangle to activate Frantic Mode. Frantic
Mode causes your character to strip down to their underwear, greatly increasing
their speed and strength and allowing them to chain combos together
limitlessly. As a down side, however, your character's defense plummets
drastically in this mode causing them to lose health much more quickly.

Secret Art: Character must have transformed using L first or be in Frantic
Mode. Secret Arts are basically a character's super move meant to do huge
amounts of damage to enemies or the boss. They vary depending on the character
and cover different ranges, so learning which one is effective in which
situation is a must. Pressing L+Square does a level 1 Secret Art that consumes
one bar of your Ninja Art gauge. L+Triangle consumes 2 bars but generally does
more damage and covers a wider area. L+O is your character's ultimate move,
consumes 5 bars of your gauge, and can only be used when in critical health. A
character's ultimate Secret Art is learned through the story, generally during
Chapter 4.

Clothing Damage: As you take damage not only do you lose health, but your
clothes become damaged as well. After a certain amount of damage is dealt
(there is no gauge to signal this), your clothing will rip. There are three
different levels of clothing damage. Costume Break, Lingerie, and Naked. Your
clothing is also divided into a top and bottom piece.

Stripping a boss character of their clothing depends on what attacks are used.
Your L+Square Secret Art will damage their lower half while your L+Triangle
Secret Art will damage their top half. Your L+O Secret Art will damage both. To
strip a Boss fully you must first strip them down to their lingerie and then
deliver the final blow with a Secret Art.

Keep in mind that Clothing Damage is not the same as going into Frantic Mode
and does not affect your stats.

Flower of Balance: Under your character's progress screen their progress is
actually divided into three gauges. Flash, Yang, and Yin. Flash refers to their
standard, untransformed mode. Yang is their Shinobi Transformation mode. And
Yin is for Frantic Mode.  By fighting in these different states these gauges
level up and your character develops different skills. Note that you do not
have to focus on just one and all three can be maxed eventually. Keep in mind
that the state you directly play in during a mission is the one that will get
leveled up afterward. So for example if a mission starts and you immediately go
into Frantic Mode, only Yin will level up and not Flash or Yang.

Flash: Your character's default state. The most "balanced" form although you do
not have access to Secret Arts in this mode. By leveling Flash the window for
parrying becomes wider allowing you to do it more easily, and you also gain EXP
and money faster.

Yang: Your character's state after Shinobi Transformation. A more attack
oriented mode which gives you access to Secret Arts and also increases your
ability to combo. You attack and defense are also increased in this mode and by
leveling it up you learn skills such as gradually restoring your HP or being
able to guard for longer without it breaking.

Yin: Your character's state in Frantic Mode. In this form weak attacks can be
chained together infintely, allowing you to pull off endless combos. Your
character gets a huge boost in attack in this mode but their defense drops
drastically, making it risky against strong enemies. Leveling up this mode
gives you skills such as being able to restore your Ninja Art gauge by taunting.

~Characters~

SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING

For the most part I will refrain from revealing too much about a character's
background or past in their description, especially with regards to the new
characters. However for the returning characters from Burst I will make
references to events that happened in that game though I'll try to avoid
mentioning any major plot twists. If you wish to avoid these then skip the
character descriptions and go right to their movesets.

~Movesets

Combos: Combos are done using a combination of the Square button for weak
attacks and the Triangle button for strong attacks. At Level 1 a character only
has access to a few basic combo strings, but as they level up they unlock
longer combos with different cancel points for launchers. To view what level a
character unlocks their next attack at, press Triangle while highlighting them
on the character select screen. A character will generally learn all of their
combo strings by level 20.

Launchers: Any move that has a glowing green ring around it means that it will
launch the enemy in the air and you can pursue them for an Aerial Rave.
Launchers are generally the finishing hit in a combo string, though a lot of
Breach Arts also launch enemies. As your character levels up and their combo
chain becomes longer, the final hit of the longer combo will replace the old
launcher. For example, if your character starts with a three hit string, the
third hit will be a launcher. However if they level up and their combo string
increases to 4 hits, then the third hit will no longer launch and the fourth
hit will become the new launcher instead.

Hold: Indicates that the move can be charged by holding the button down,
usually for a more powerful or longer reaching attack.

Mash: Indicates that you can increase the hits done by mashing the button
rapidly.

~Hanzo National Academy~

The heroines from the first game and the "main" characters of the series. Led
by the Second-Year student Asuka, granddaughter of the renowned shinobi Hanzo,
the group triumphed over their rivals from the Hebijo Academy and foiled their
plans in the first game. The two groups became friends in the aftermath of the
battle but were forced to part ways as they followed different paths. Since
then the girls have dedicated themselves to their training to become stronger
as peace returned. But the life of a shinobi is never an easy one, and with the
arrival of new foes they are once again thrown into another life and death
battle amongst shinobi.

~Asuka

Age: 16
Blood Type: A
Hobby: Training
Birthday: September 8
Favorite Food: Futomaki
Ninja Animal: Toad
Weapon: Dual Kodachi
Voice Actor: Hitomi Harada

The Leader of the Hanzo team and the "main character" of the series. She is a
Second-Year student of the Hanzo Academy and the granddaughter of the famous
shinobi Hanzo, whom the academy is named after. Her mother was also a shinobi,
though her father was a normal civilian who planned to become a lawyer before
meeting Asuka's mother and deciding to open a sushi shop instead. Because of
her prestigious heritage she is a hardworking and earnest young woman who is
always trying to improve her skills through training. She has a bright and
friendly personality that makes her hard to take seriously sometimes, but when
it's time for action she proves that her position as the leader is not
undeserved. After the events of Burst, she formed a strong friendship/rivalry
with Homura and has been training in anticipation of the day when they can have
a rematch.

Fighting Style: Favoring a pair of wakizashi (short swords), Asuka is a
balanced character with no real weaknesses. Her attacks are quick and her
combos deal multi hits, allowing you to rack up a high combo chain easily. She
does best in close range combat but has the tools to easily deal with just
about any situation that comes up. Overall she's your standard "main character"
type character due to how balanced she is.

Breach Art: Asuka jumps into the air before burrowing into the ground and
attacking the closest enemy. If locked onto an enemy Asuka will teleport to
them regardless of range, making it a good tool for approaching an enemy. Asuka
is invulnerable while underground giving the move little risk. Causes launch
which leads to Aerial Rave

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Dual Slash
Asuka sheathes her swords before unsheathing them quickly and rushing forward,
attacking anything in her path. The attack is fast and she travels a fair
distance, but its range is incredibly narrow and will only hit enemies directly
in front of her so it must be aimed carefully.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Hanzo Style Full Bloom
Asuka pulls off a series a quick attacks with both swords, attacking any enemy
in range before finishing with a downward slam, blowing them back. The range of
this attack is quite short so it's best used on a single enemy or densely
packed groups. Asuka can be controlled during the attack making it easier to
aim.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Toad Summon
Asuka summons a giant toad and hops on its back as it wildly attacks enemies
with its long tongue. The toad's tongue extends quite a distance in front of it
but will miss enemies too far to the side or behind it. Its direction can be
controlled during the attack making it easier to aim.

~Ikaruga

Age: 18
Blood Type: A
Hobby: Reading
Birthday: July 7
Favorite Food: Green Tea/Kaiseki
Ninja Animal: Phoenix
Weapon: Nodachi "Hien"
Voice Actor: Asami Imai

A Third-Year student of Hanzo Academy and the original leader of the team
before handing the title over to Asuka. Ikaruga was adopted into a noble ninja
family due to their actual son lacking talent as a shinobi. She proved to be an
excellent shinobi and inhereited the family's heirloom, the sword "Hien", as a
result, earning her the ire and hate of her adopted brother. A noble and proud
young woman, she has an air of calm confidence that makes her a comforting
presence for her friends. She often hides her sadness and true feelings under
her calm and collected demeanor, but it's clear she cares for her friends
deeply and their presence helps ease her own pains.

Fighting Style: With her Nodachi (long sword), Ikaruga specializes in
incredibly fast attacks that cover a wide range. She can quickly close the
distance between her and her enemies and deliver a devastating flurry of
attacks to clear the crowds that stand in her way. She suffers from a low
defense, however, and staggers from attacks easily, so being surrounded or
forced into a corner can prove to be fatal if you have no means to escape.

Breach Art: Ikaruga charges for a moment before unsheathing her sword quickly
causing a flurry of slashes to appear in a small area in front of her. The
longer the button is charged the more slashes she will do, ending with a final
slash that has projectile properties.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Hien Hosen: Mode One
Ikaruga unsheathes her blade quickly to perform a multi-hitting quickdraw
attack. It only hits directly in front of her and will miss enemies to the side
or behind her, so aim carefully. This attack is unblockable.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Oukaesen
Ikaruga slashes forward releasing a blue projectile in the shape of a phoenix.
The range the phoenix travels is large, capable of going from one end of a
stage to the other. However, if it collides with any obstacle or a wall it will
vanish. The phoenix has a wide hitbox but will miss enemies too far to the side
or behind it, so some aim is required.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Zekka Hoosen
Once again Ikaruga unsheathes her blade quickly causing multiple slashes in
large area around herself. Though it looks like she only aims for the front,
this attack is actually capable of hitting any enemy surrounding her and the
range is quite large, making it great for taking out groups or when surrounded.

~Katsuragi

Age: 17
Blood Type: B
Hobby: Sexual Harassment
Birthday: November 5
Favorite Food: Ramen
Ninja Animal: Dragon
Weapon: Nodachi Boots/Greaves
Voice Actor: Yu Kobayashi

A Third-Year Hanzo student. Along with Ikaruga, the two serve as the senior
members of the team. Both her parents were shinobi but after failing a mission
they chose to run away and go into hiding instead of taking their own lives.
They left Katsuragi behind so she wouldn't suffer the same disgrace they did,
an event that has deeply affected her and shaped her character. Since then she
has vowed to become a strong shinobi with the hopes that her success will
absolve her parent's of their failure and allow them to be a family again. Like
Ikaruga she hides her true feelings under an air of cheerfulness and
perversion. She enjoys groping her fellow shinobi and just about anyone else
and likes having fun. Despite her carefree attitude, she loves the thrill of
battle and is an incredibly skilled and powerful fighter. Among the team she
often acts as the big sister of the group.

Fighting Style: Katsuragi foregoes the use of a traditional weapon in favor of
using her martial arts skills and own ki to attack. With her special greaves
she delivers powerful kicks that quickly overwhelm even tough enemies and break
their guards easily. By holding down the button during combos, Katsuragi can
charge her next attack causing it to do 3 times as much damage as normal,
greatly increasing her damage output. Along with this her own endurance and
defense are quite high allowing her to slug it out with enemies with little
fear. However her speed leaves something to be desired and her attacks are
rather slow, so you have to aim and time them carefully for maximum reward.

Breach Art: Katsuragi gathers energy before charging forward quickly with a
straight kick. The charge time on this move is short and it travels quite a
fair distance and also causes an aerial launch, making it a great tool for
approaching enemies and bosses and starting combos. The direction Katsuragi
flies in can be changed while charging, but cannot be controlled once the
charge is complete.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Cross Panzer
Katsuragi surrounds her feet with wind before delivering a quick series of
strong kicks, ending with a powerful downwards strike. The kicks are
unblockable but their range is quite short and only hit what's in front of
Katsuragi. Best used on densely packed groups or bosses.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Tornado Spindle
Katsuragi spins rapidly in a break dance like movement causing a whirlwind to
form around her and attack all nearby enemies. Its range isn't as big as you'd
think, but still surrounds her entire body and is capable of hitting enemies in
the air as well, making it great to use when surrounded.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Dead Screw Dragon
Katsuragi uses her ki to form the shape of a dragon before charging forward
with a powerful drill kick. This attack does A LOT of damage if it hits, but
its range is incredibly narrow and will only hit enemies directly in front of
her. Like her Breach Art you cannot control the direction of the attack after
releasing it so careful aim is required.

~Yagyu

Age: 15
Blood Type: O
Hobby: Sleeping
Birthday: December 23
Favorite Food: Dried Squid
Ninja Animal: Squid
Weapon: Parasol
Voice Actor: Kaori Mizuhashi

A First-Year Hanzo student and one of the youngest members of the group.
Despite her young age she is an incredibly skilled shinobi and probably the
most ninja-like out of the entire team. She has a quiet and somber personality
due to losing her suddenly in a traffic accident and has shut herself off from
others as a result. After meeting Hibari, however, and being reminded of her
own sister, she becomes attached to the other girl and is highly protective of
her and her happiness. Gradually she began to open up to the other girls on the
team as well, though she still keeps her cool composure in most situations.

Fighting Style: Yagyu fights with a Japanese umbrella that hides deadly blades
within it to shred enemies to pieces. Her attacks are relatively quick and
cover a wide range but her power is quite weak meaning it takes her longer to
actually finish off enemies compared to others. On the plus side her attacks
hit multiple enemies at once and deal many hits making it easy for her to build
a high combo chain and fill her Ninja Art gauge quickly. Along with this some
of her moves can freeze enemies, allowing you them to approach them without
fear and start a combo.

Breach Art: Yagyu charges for a moment before unleashing a flurry of ink that
homes in on enemies like bullets. Not very strong but has a chance to freeze
enemies allowing you to close in and start a combo.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Sweeping Legs
Yagyu summons a giant squid that surrounds her and spins rapidly, striking
enemies with its tentacles. A good attack for any situation due to only costing
one bar of the Ninja Art gauge. Great when surrounded by enemies. Can freeze
enemies.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Ice Feet
Yagyu summons her giant squid again but this time it attacks by firing off
icicles in front of her. Has decent attack power and can freeze enemies, but
enemies need to be in front of Yagyu for it to connect fully.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Demon Slice
Yagyu summons her giant squid which attacks by sweeping its tentacles wildly in
front of her. Deals good damage and covers a good range in front of her, but
will miss enemies too far to the side or behind. Its direction can be
controlled during the attacks, however, so adjust the range as needed.

~Hibari

Age: 15
Blood Type: B
Hobby: Video Games
Birthday: Feburary 18
Favorite Food: Sweets
Ninja Animal: Bunny
Weapon: Ninpo
Voice Actor: Yuka Iguchi

Another First-Year student of Hanzo along with Yagyu. Hibari comes from a long
line of skilled shinobi but has always felt like her own abilities aren't up to
par. This has caused her to self-esteem issues though she hides them well
behind her cheerful and childish demeanot. Though her overall skills are ranked
the weakest out of the group, she is an expert of espionage and excels in it.
While she causes trouble sometimes due to her inexperience she is beloved by
her friends for her earnest and innocent nature.

Fighting Style: Like Katsuragi, Hibari does not rely on a particular weapon and
fights using a combination of martial arts and Ninpo instead. However her
combat abilities are far from matching the older girl's and most of her moves
are clumsy and awkward. Combine this with the fact that her damage isn't very
high and she can be a difficult character to get a handle on. Once mastered,
however, she becomes a force to be reckoned with once you take advantage of her
clumsy attacks and ability to paralyze enemies.

Breach Art: Hibari pulls out her bunny, Ninto, and charges for a bit before
releasing a blast of electricity in front of her. Can hit multiple enemies and
can cause paralysis making it useful for stunning groups or a boss and then
starting a combo.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Ninto Vroom
An enlarged Ninto appears and Hibari hops on his back before riding forward at
a high speed. Doesn't do much damage and only hits in front of her so it must
be aimed carefully. Like most of her moves it has a high chance of causing
paralysis.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Butt Go Boom
Hibari jumps into the air before turning giant and coming down butt first,
crushing any enemies caught by her enlarged rump. Does good damage and covers a
decent range and is also unblockable, making it a great attack for clearing out
groups. It also has a chance to stun enemies allowing you to follow up with a
combo.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Crazy Rabbit
Hibari summons Ninto who attacks by summoning lightning bolts in a an area
around her. The range actually isn't that great so make sure enemies are close
before using it. As usual it has a chance to paralyze enemies caught by it.

~Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy~

A new group formed after the original Hebijo Academy was destroyed during the
events of Burst. Hebijo Academy was known for its ruthless shinobi that served
as assassins and spies and had a dark reputation for raising evil shinobi. Six
months after its destruction it was reformed with Miyabi and other Elite
shinobi who seek to restore the Academy's honor and rebuild its glory. To do
this they aim to track down the Academy's former Elites and punish them for the
failure and betrayal six months ago.

~Miyabi

Age: 20
Blood Type: B
Hobby: Taking baths
Birthday: August 15
Favorite Food: Oyako Donburi
Ninja Animal: Crow and Serpent
Weapon: Seven-Pronged Sword
Voice Actor: Hiromi Hirata

A Third-Year former student of Hebijo and the leader of her group. A powerful
shinobi who became a leader during her first year, she unfortunately was
involved in a terrible accident that caused her to lose her memories and
abilities. She was hospitalized for 3 years but after a certain event her
memories and abilities come back to her. Since then she has vowed to restore
the name of Hebijo to its former glory and has gathered several other Elites
who support her cause and help her with her mission.

Fighting Style: Miyabi is a powerful front line fighter who does not shy away
from direct combat or charging into the heart of enemy groups. With her high
attack power, decent defense, and impressive endurance, she can withstand
attacks without flinching and leave a trail of carnage in her wake. All of her
stats are above average and she doesn't have any real weaknesses making her a
great character for any mission.

Breach Art: Miyabi charges dark energy in her left hand before charging forward
and delivering an uppercut which launches the target into the air. Will home in
on the nearest locked on target but the homing is loose so it must still be
aimed somewhat.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Delightful Inferno
Miyabi unleashes a flurry of attacks with her sword before delivering a final
strong strike to blow enemies away. Like most other rush type Ninja Arts like
this its range is short and is better used against single enemies rather than
groups. Breaks guards and can causes the burn effect on enemies.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Purgatorio of Good and Evil
Miyabi holds her hand up before summoning forth multiple dark snakes that
circle her and attack anything in range. Does decent damage and covers a wide
range making it good for clearing out groups, but it is blockable. The range
this Art covers is quite large and also has the effect of drawing enemies in,
making it incredibly difficult to escape if she activates it at point blank
range.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Paradiso of the Abyss
Six wings sprout from Miyabi's back and she takes to the air before releasing
blast after blast of dark energy down on the field. Does impressive damage but
must be used with care as it will not hit enemies directly under her, though
she can change directions during the attack. Despite the heavy damage, the
attack is blockable so be careful when using it.

~Imu

Age: 21
Blood Type: AB
Hobby: Studying
Birthday: June 9
Favorite Food: Inari Sushi
Ninja Animal: Fox
Weapon: Staff
Voice Actor: Chiwa Saito

A Third-Year student of Hebijo and Miyabi's best friend. Like Miyabi she was in
an accident that resulted in her being hospitalized for a year. After
recovering she retired from the life of a shinobi to support Miyabi's recovery.
When Miyabi regained her memories and made it her mission to ressurect the
Hebijo Academy, Imu of course backed up her decision and dedicated herself to
helping her friend reach her goal. She is the older sister of Murasaki though
their relationship is somewhat strained due to a certain event.

Fighting Style: Imu has the fastest dash in the entire game, allowing her to
move across the battlefield quickly. Other than that, however, her overall
stats are on the weaker side and she isn't very powerful. She makes up for this
by having many attacks that hit multiple times and allow her to build up a high
combo chain and fill the Ninja Art gauge quickly. Some of her attacks can also
cause paralysis, giving her a good oppurtunity to strike.

Breach Art: Using her staff, Imu spring into the air before coming down with a
fierce dive kick in front of her covered in electricity. Its range is narrow
but it launches enemies and can cause paralysis. Upon reaching Level 3 you can
add an additonal hit to the uncharged version of this attack by pressing
Triangle again.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Dead Fox
Imu dashes forward from different directions multiple times to cover a good
area around her. An unblockable attack that covers a good range making it ideal
for clearing out enemies. Does not cause paralysis.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Rolling Thunder
Imu charges her staff with electricity before throwing it forward. Covers a
wide range in front of her and can paralyze enemies, but will miss if they're
too far to the side or behind Imu.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Thunder Fox
Imu releases several fox spirits from her staff which then charge around the
area attacking anything in range. High attack power and good range but doesn't
cause paralysis and leaves Imu open afterward. Best used to finish off a boss.

~Murasaki

Age: 16
Blood Type: A
Hobby: Playing with her stuffed doll
Birthday: October 26
Favorite Food: Riceballs
Ninja Animal: Bear
Weapon: Giant shurikens
Voice Actor: Sayuri Yahagi

A Second-Year of Hebijo though she has yet to attend a single class due to her
introverted nature. She spends most of her time locked in her room with her
stuffed animal "Bebe-tan" and does not like being around others. She scares
easily and is bad at talking to people, giving her a gloomy and depressing
aura. Despite her shyness she harbors a great and terrible power which caused a
rift between her and her older sister Imu in the past. She is coaxed into
joining the new Hebijo formed by Miyabi by Imu. Has the largest breasts in the
series.

Fighting Style: Murasaki has average stats and decent attack power even though
her defense isn't that great. Because she has little long-range moves she does
best in close range combat even with her low defense, but despite this she does
a good job of mowing down enemies with her giant shurikens. Her attacks are a
bit slow, but She has several moves that are good for getting enemies off of
her when things get tough and taking advantage of them in the right moment is
key to being effective.

Breach Art: Murasaki gathers energy before releasing it in a dark aura that
forms an orb around her and blows enemies back. The attack doesn't activate
until the button is released so you can hold it and allow enemies to get close
before releasing it. This moves makes her immune to damage for a short time
after activating it so it is useful when surrounded and you need a breather.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Stay Away
Murasaki shouts her despair which becomes an orb of dark energy which she fires
in front of her. Like other projectile Arts it will vanish if it hits an
obstacles, but it's unblockable and travels a long distance.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Just Let Me Die
Murasaki pleads for the enemy to leave her alone resulting in her dark energy
exploding outwards in a massive orb around her. This is similar to her Breach
Art but on a much larger scale. Able to hit enemies all around her and is
unblockable.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Someone Help Me
Giving in to her despair and gloom, Murasaki's dark energy forms a pair of
massive claws which brutally mangle anything that gets close. Covers a wide
range and Murasaki can move while the arms go wild, but her walk speed is slow
and she won't get very far. Best used up close to a boss or group.

~Ryobi

Age: 15
Blood Type: O
Hobby: Sharpshooting
Birthday: January 19
Favorite Food: Lollipops
Ninja Animal: Deer
Weapon: Musket
Voice Actor: Yoko Hikasa

A First-Year Hebijo student. She and her sister were members of Gessen before
transferring. A huge sadist who enjoys taunting and utterly destroying her
enemies. She is completely flat chested normally, but when she pulls off her
Shinobi Transformation she "levels up" in the chest area by quite a bit. She
and her sister lost someone important to them in the past and may have ulterior
motives for transferring to Hebijo...

Fighting Style: Ryobi's weapon of choice is a musket. While she can fight from
a distance, the axe-head on the musket's stock allows her to hold her own in
close combat if it comes down to it. Her defense is good but her health and
endurance are rather low so you'll have to decide when it's best to close in or
safely keep your distance.

Breach Art: Ryobi fires a scattershot of bullets from her musket that sends
enemies flying. Good range and launches enemies a certain distance in front of
her so can be used to start an Aerial Rave from a safe distance. The shots can
richochet off walls as well.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Eight Minuet
Ryobi summons four large bombs which surround her before exploding, dealing
damage to any enemy in range. While it can hit enemies all around her, the
range is deceptively short and the attack can also be blocked. Best used in the
middle of a group.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Ricochet Prelude
Ryobi calls forth large bombs before shooting them from a safe distance causing
them to explode and deal damage in a large area in front of her. Safe since it
can be used from a distance and deals good damage, but like her first Art it
can also be blocked so pay attention when using it.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Minuet Missile
Ryobi summons a firing platform and proceeds to unload a barrage of missiles on
anything in her path. The missiles will home in on a target if locked on to
them making it great for dealing damage against a single enemy or boss. She can
also move during this to cover a wider range or take out an enemy group. The
missiles are unblockable.

~Ryona

Age: 15
Blood Type: O
Hobby: Shopping
Birthday: January 19
Favorite Food: Fish sausage
Ninja Animal: Pig
Weapon: Quad-handguns
Voice Actor: MAKO

A First-Year Hebijo student and the older twin sister of Ryobi. The two
transferred from Gessen to the new Hebijo for unknown reasons. The opposite of
her sister, Ryona is an extreme mashochist and seeks to have people "punish"
her both physically and mentally. She also has a habit of showing off her large
breasts to people. Despite her carefree demeanor and masochistic tendencies,
she has moments of deep thought and comes off as the more symphathetic of the
two sisters. She and her sister lost someone important to them when they were
younger and may have ulterior motives for joining Hebijo...

Fighting Style: Ryona's stats are fairly balanced to the point that she doesn't
really stand out in any specific field. In battle she glides around gracefully
like a figure skater while gleefully shooting her enemies with her four
handguns. Though her stats are only average, her attacks cover a wide range and
can freeze enemies, so she's not to be underestimated.

Breach Art: Ryona spins around like a ballerina while firing her guns in all
directions. She can be controlled during this and it's quite fast but is better

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Skater's Waltz
Ryona unleashes a series of vicious kicks. Has a short range and doesn't do
that well against groups, but it's unblockable, has decent power, and can
freeze enemies making it useful against strong targets and bosses.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Beautiful Blue Gunslinger
Ryona jumps into the air before firing several bullets downwards which then
bloom into massive ice pillars to freeze enemies. This does good damage, is
unblockable, and can freeze enemies, but it has a long recovery afterward
making it hard to follow up after and leaves Ryona open if she's surrounded.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Rebellion Concerto
Ryona jumps into the air before aiming her guns and spinning wildly while
shooting. Covers a good range but can be blocked. On the plus side you can
control Ryona during the attacks to chase down enemies.

School". The five Elites of this school are the adopted granddaughters of an
infamous shinobi known as Kurokage, who made it his mission to eliminate all
evil from the world. In order to carry out their adopted guardian and mentor's
lifelong dream the girls of this group vowed to be the light that destroys the
darkness and will go to extreme lengths to eliminate any evil before them.

Blood Type: A
Hobby: Calligraphy</pre><pre id="faqspan-2">
Birthday: December 3
Favorite Food: Shaved Ice with Red Bean flavoring

with the other Elites of Gessen aim to carry on their mentor's dream and
eliminate all evil in the world. She wishes to challenge Asuka as their
grandfather's were rivals. Fitting with her name, she has a cool and gentle
personality but is absoluetely ruthless when it comes to dealing with those she
considers evil.

Fighting Style: Yumi fights using her ice powers combined with a fan that
creates a chilling yet graceful fighting style. Her defense is really her only
notable stat but it's offset by her low health, endurance, and attack power.
She makes up for this by having attacks that cover a decent range that can
freeze enemies as well.

Breach Art: Yumi charges up before releasing several orbs of ice in fan
formation in front of her. Not very powerful but covers a wide range in front

also freeze enemies.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Black Ice
Yumi gathers multiple icicles at the tip of her fan to form one large spear of
ice which she then fires in front of her. Like most projectile Ninja Arts it
must be aimed carefully and only hits in front of her and will dissapate if it
encouters a wall or other obstacle.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Ice Pillar Fan
Yumi pulls out another fan before spinning rapidly causing a freezing wind of
frost and ice to cover a large area. This attack does not freeze enemies but is
unblockable and covers a good area making it ideal for clearing out groups.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: White Widow
Yumi summons a giant spider of ice which proceeds to summon a massive whirlwind
of ice and snow around her. She is immobile during this but the whirlwind can
suck in enemies if they get too close, hits all around her, and has decent
range.

~Shiki

Age: 15
Blood Type: AB
Hobby: Midnight walks
Birthday: March 25
Favorite Food: Tomato juice
Ninja Animal: Bat
Weapon: Double-sided scythe
Voice Actor: Ayano Yamamoto

A First-Year Gessen student. She's quite fashionable and speaks like a gal
girl, adding to her seductive appearance. Despite her manner of speech and
looks which make her seem like an airhead, she's actually quite smart and
studies a lot, causing her team members to count on her for advice and help.
She hates to be judged by her appearance and is quite insightful on a lot of
matters, but like her teammates she has little tolerance for anyone considered
evil. She is quite popular and has a lot of normal friends who do not know of
her status as a shinobi.

Fighting Style: Shiki has a flashy fighting style that involves twirling and
throwing her double-sided scythe around rapidly. This gives her impressive
range and let's her rack up combos easily. As an added bonus her attacks also
have a chance of poisoning enemies, and with the amount of hits she does it's
almost a guarantee in any conflict. She has above average attack power and
endurance but is offset by her somewhat lacking health and defense.

Breach Art: Shiki changes into a red mist before homing in on an enemy and
knocking them into the air. Like Asuka's Breach Art if you are locked on to an
enemy when you use this you will home in on them no matter the range, making it
great for approaching an enemy and starting a combo. Shiki is also invincible
while in her mist form.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Shiki Soku ZX
Shiki sits upon a throne of bats before charging forward and dealing damage to
any enemy in front of her. Like other charge type Ninja Arts this only hits
directly in front of her and can't be controlled once movement as started, so
you must aim carefully. Causes poison.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Ku Soku ZIX
Shiki summons a legion of bats from her hat which then attack anything in a
certain range in front of her. The range on this is quite far allowing it to be
used from a distnce and has a vaccum effect and will pull in enemies if they
get too close.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Sho Gyom ZEX
Shiki sheds her clothing and summons her legion of bats who conceal her assets
before calling forth a black whirlwind that shreds anything in range. Like
other whirlwind type Ninja Arts she is immobile during this but it covers a
large range and deals good damage.

~Yozakura

Age: 16
Blood Type: O
Hobby: Cleaning
Birthday: March 25
Favorite Food: April 5
Ninja Animal: Wild Boar
Weapon: Giant Gauntlets
Voice Actor: Kaori Ishihara

A Second-Year Gessen student. She's a serious person who doesn't really
understand jokes and be somewhat of a stick in the mud. When she loses her
temper, however, she becomes hotheaded and her country accent comes out. She
comes from a large family, being the oldest of 12 brothers and sisters. Both
her parents were shinobi but died in the line of duty. She was seperated from
her brothers and sisters but taken in by Kurokage, joining him under the
condition that she be reunited with her family one day.

Fighting Style: BIG O! SHOWTIME! In contrast to Katsuragi who favor kicks,
Yozakura is all about her fists and wields a pair of large gauntlets to match.
Like Katsuragi, holding down the button during attacks allows you to charge
them up which results in Yozakura releasing a small explosion in front of her,
adding to her already high damage. She has high health and endurance allowing
her to tank through many attacks even though her defense is only average. Her
speed is on the slower side as well and her attacks require careful timing and
aim to make the best use of their charged properties.

Breach Art: Yozakura charges her gauntlets before striking the ground several
times and releasing three shockwaves followed by a final shockwave that knocks
enemies away. Covers a wide range around her and stuns enemies that are caught
in the shockwave. Can be followed up with an Aerial Rave.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: 1,000 Palm Fists of Paradise
Yozakura gathers energy in front of her before projecting it as a large orb
which damages enemies in front of her. Has a short range and only covers the
area directly in front of her, but has high damage and is unblockable.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: 10,000 Palm Fists of Paradise
Yozakura gathers energy like in her first Ninja Art but this time she actually
shoots it forward like a projectile. Like other projectile Ninja Arts the orb
will fade if it runs into any obstacles during its flight.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Namu Amida
Yozakura gathers her energy before forming two large fists made out of her ki
and swinging them wildly. The furious fists cover a good range in front of her
but are also capable of pulling in enemies from the side if they get too close.
Her direction can also be changed during the move making it difficult to escape.

~Murakumo

Age: 17
Blood Type: B
Hobby: Drawing Manga
Birthday: October 8
Favorite Food: Rice Cakes
Ninja Animal: Wolf
Weapon: Spear and giant cleaver
Voice Actor: Hisako Kanemoto

A Third-Year Gessen student. She wears a fearsome mask which combined with her
silent demeanor and the weapons she carries makes her an imposing figure.
However, once her mask comes off she is incredibly shy and will go to great
lengths to hide her face even if it means covering it with a bag. She hides her
true gentle self behind the mask she always wears which seems to give her
courage and confidence.

Fighting Style: Despite her fearsome mask and imposing weapons, Murakumo
actually isn't as strong as you might think. Her attack power is only average
at best and her health, endurance, and defense aren't very impressive either.
She makes up for it by being surprisingly nimble and her attacks also cover a
decent range and are quite quick. She's best at whittling down an enemy's
strength with hit and run tactics before coming back for the kill.

Breach Art: Murakumo charges for a bit before rushing forward with her spear.
Launches on hit. Moves pretty fast and covers a good distance but has a narrow
hitbox.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Kotaro
Murakumo summons a wolf which then attacks an area in front of by rapidly doing
dashes in a zig-zag pattern. Good for taking out groups and goes a long
distance but only covers the area in front of Murakumo.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Kagero
Murakumo summons two wolves this time who quickly dash around in a whirlwind of
fangs and claws. Works like other whirlwind type Ninja Arts, covering a good
range and can draw enemies, but be warned that it can be blocked.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Daigoro
Murakumo summons a giant wolf before hopping on its back and riding it around
while swinging her weapons and decapitating anything in reach. The wolf can be
steered during the duration of the attack making it easy to chase down targets
and cover distances.

~Minori

Age: 15
Blood Type: AB
Hobby: Taking naps
Birthday: Feburary 14
Favorite Food: Strawberry shortcakes
Ninja Animal: Hamster
Weapon: Magic bucket and frying pan
Voice Actor: Hiromi Igarashi

A First-Year Gessen student. Despite her busty appearance and shapely figure,
she is quite immature for age and acts like a child. Along with dressing like
she's still in elementary school, Minori is very innocent and loves to play
games and pulls pranks on her fellow shinobi, especially Murakumo. Yozakura has
taken to training her, though she tends to get on the nerves of the older girl
at times.

Fighting Style: Minori can be compared to Hibari in that they both have an
unconventional fighting style full of awkward movements that can be difficult
to get a handle on at first. Her stats are unimpressive but there's a secret to
her fighting style that can greatly increase her effectiveness. By pressing
triangle, Minori will store a sweet in her bucket. The longer the sweet stays
in the bucket and the more hits you rack up during that time will cause her
Sweets Stock to increase, giving her a boost to all of her stats. With a Level
3 Sweet Stock Minori becomes a force to be reckoned with as her attack power
and other stats double! Making use of her Snack Charge and Sweets Stocks are
key to playing her to maximum effectiveness.

Breach Art: By pressing triangle, Minori will store a sweet in her bucket. This
is known as Snack Charge and is the key to increasing effectiveness in battle.
Once a sweet is stored, as time passes and you land hits her Sweets Stock will
increase and grant a bonus to her overall stats. The level of charge can be
seen by what color her bucket is glowing. A rainbow glow indicates it is at the
maximum level. By pressing triangle again after Sweets Stocks have charged,
Minori will release a powerful attack that deals high damage.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Bam-Bam Pancakes
Minori uses her frying pan to flip a stack of pancakes into the air...only to
have them turn giant and come crashing down on any enemies caught under them.
Covers a decent range, is unblockable, and raises her Sweets Stock by one level
on a successful hit.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Minori's Snack Party
Minori summons cookies, candies, and other assorted giant sweets to dance
around her and crush any enemy that gets close. Again covers a decent range, is
unblockable, and raises her Sweets Stock if it hits correctly.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Strawberry Rainbow Slide
Minori throws all of her sweets into her bucket which result in it spititng out
a giant wheel made of cake and strawberries. Minori then hops inside and runs
around like a hamster, crushing anything unfortunate enough to be in her path.
Can be controlled to propel yourself into enemy groups. While it doesn't raise
the Sweet Stocks directly, it causes multiple hits that will end up raising it
a level or two anyway.

~Homura's Crimson Squad~

The other returning group from the 3DS games. Homura's Squad were former Elites
of Hebijo, but following the events of Burst, the group went rogue and have
been in hiding ever since. At one point they fought fiercely with the girls of
Hanzo and were their rivals, but during the events of Burst the two groups
learned to understand each other and parted ways on much better terms.
Considered fugitives in the shinobi world for their desertation and betrayal,
they now live in the shadows and make a meager living doing what they can to
get by. Certain events have caused them to come out of hiding, however, and
they show up at a crucial time to help out their once rivals from Hanzo.

~Homura

Age: 16
Blood Type: B
Hobby: Fighting
Birthday: January 3
Favorite Food: Japanese food
Ninja Animal: Japanese Rat Snake
Weapon: Six Swords
Voice Actor: Eri Kitamura

A former Second-Year Elite from Hebijo and the leader of her team. A certain
event from her past was what caused her to become an evil shinobi in the first
place, but after coming to Hebijo she began to form a friendship with the other
Elites and gradually learned to trust people again. She cares fo rher friends
deeply but is absoluetely merciless when it comes to confronting her enemies,
showing her great skill as an Elite shinobi. Her rival is Asuka from Hanzo. Has
a rather bad sense of humor even though she tries hard to open up more and make
her friends laugh.

Fighting Style: PUT YA GUNS ON! Like a certain warlord from a different series,
Homura fights with six katanas which she holds between her fingers like claws.
Homura is a fierce fighter with high attack power and is above average in most
stats. Her attacks can also burn enemies, causing dmaage over time. However her
defense is quite low meaning she can lose her health fast if you aren't
careful. Her Crimson Mode is a powerful ability that can quickly turn the tides
of any battle.

Breach Art: Homura charges before spinning forward with all her blades in a
whirlwind of death. Goes a LONG distance and also launches enemies on hit,
making a great tool for getting out of a crowd or closing in on a group.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Charge
Homura slashes multiple times with her blades in a random pattern, covering a
wide area. This attack isn't unblockable but covers a good range making it a
good tool for normal enemy groups.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Crimson
Homura unleashes her true power and activates her Crimson Mode, greatly
increasing her attack power. While in this mode Homura's moveset changes and
she is invulnerable to harm. As a downside her movement speed slows to a crawl
(though she can still dash), and she can't rip enemy clothing. However the
invinciblity combined with the increased attack power makes this a great tool
for taking on any enemy no matter how tough they are. The mode lasts for about
10 seconds or so before she reverts to normal, but that's usually more than
enough time to take care of anything that stands in your way.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Lotus
Homura goes into Crimson Mode before summoning all her swords to whirl around
her in a tornado of steal. Covers a good range, is unblockable, has high attack
power, and burns enemies. You can also steer the direction of the attack to
pick up any stragglers or enemies trying to escape. An extremely powerful Ninja
Art that is well worth the gauge needed to use it.

~Haruka

Age: 18
Blood Type: AB
Hobby: Doll making
Birthday: July 20
Favorite Food: Sweetened kombu
Ninja Animal: Japanese Keelback
Weapon: Chemicals, puppet
Voice Actor: Megumi Toyoguchi

A former Third-Year Elite from Hebijo. She is the most senior member of the
Elites and the first to be recruited. An elegant queen type character with a
large sadistic streak, she gives off a both charming and terrifying aura. She
likes nothing more than teasing others and seeing them in discomfort making her
a dangerous person to lower your guard around. However she cares a lot of those
she considers her "underlings" and serves a mother like role to the rest of the
team, especially Mirai. Her rival is Hibari from Hanzo.

Fighting Style: Haruka can both be an incredibly powerful and tricky character
to use. She fights using a combination of chemicals that cause negative status
effects and her custom-buildt puppet to pummel enemies and ruin their day. Her
stats are mostly slighty above average except for her low defense, but her
moves pack quite a wallop and can cause negative status effects.

Breach Art: Haruka's puppet releases a blast in front of it causing a status
effect. The status effect caused depends on what mode Haruka is in. Flash =
Paralysis, Yang = Burn, Yin = Poison. Can hit multiple enemies and a status
effect is pretty much guaranteed making it a handy tool against bosses.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: DeathxKiss
Haruka blows a kiss sending out five hearts that track down enemies and deal
damage and a negative status effect on hit. The hearts spread out the further
they travel and can hit multiple enemies, but from the right distance all five
hearts can hit one enemy and smack them with multiple status effects. Using
this against bosses correctly can hit them with up to 5 different status
effects at once!

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Heart Vibration
Haruka's puppet goes on a rampage, pounding the ground ruthlessly with
unblockable attacks. Covers a good distance and the puppet can be controlled
during this so you can steer it into groups from a safe distance. Good for
clearing out crowds.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: The World is Mine
Haruka summons several orbs of energy which spread out around a wide area and
deal heavy damage. This attack covers a good range, deals nice damage, and is
handy for taking out groups. If locked on to a target the orbs can also pull
them in.

~Hikage

Age: 17
Blood Type: O
Hobby: None
Birthday: September 9
Favorite Food: None
Ninja Animal: Cobra
Weapon: Knives
Voice Actor: Ryoko Shiraishi

A former Third-Year Elite from Hebijo. Although a powerful fighter and the
second member to join the Elites, she lacks a lot of motivation due to not
having any emotions. Hikage says she was born without emotions and claims not
to understand them, making her hard to read. However after meeting the other
Elites and Katsuragi, she starts to show more of an interest in them and can
verbally voice the things she finds interesting or is fond of even if her
expression remains blank. Despite claiming not to understand emotions she is
surprisingly considerate of the feelings of those she considers her friends and
will try to cheer them up if something is bothering them. Her rival is
Katsuragi from Hanzo.

Fighting Style: Speed is Hikage's entire game. Her attack power is only average
and aside from her speed her other stats are quite low, but she makes up for it
with the sheer quickness of her moves and fast, multi-hitting attacks allowing
her to build gauge easily. She can't take many hits due to her low health and
defense, but she can quickly dart between enemy groups and slice them to shreds
before retreating to safety. Like Homura she has a special mode she can go in,
greatly increasing her capabilities and allowing her to cause more carnage.

Breach Art: Hikage throws several knives forward. The longer you charge it the
more knives she throws. They fan out as they travel making them capable of
hitting multiple enemies but their damage is quite low. Only really useful
against turtle enemies.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Shanking
Hikage whips out her knives and goes on a frenzy slashing anything in her path.
The range on this attack is kind of small but she can be controlled during it
allowing you to cover a better area. It also breaks guard and can poison
enemies.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Splatter
Hikage unleashes a burst of energy around her to damage and knockback enemies
before going into a beastlike mode to destroy her enemies. This puts Hikage
into an unofficial "Frantic" mode, allowing her to chain her attacks
infinitely. Like Homura's Crimson Mode, she is completely invulnerable to
damage while this mode lasts making it good for escaping a bad situation if
you're low on health. The initial burst of energy damages enemies and can even
rip clothes. Activate it in the middle of a group or near a boss and then
continue to hunt them down ruthlessly while the mode is active.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Pure Bliss
Hikage pulls out her knives again and goes berserk, slashing from multiple
angles faster than the eye can follow. This move can be aimed, is unblockable,
and covers a good distance, making it a great crowd clearing attack and it can
absoluetely devastate a boss caught in it.

~Yomi

Age: 16
Blood Type: B
Hobby: Sewing
Birthday: Feburary 10
Favorite Food: Bean Sprouts
Ninja Animal: Burrowing Ratsnake
Weapon: Broadsword, various firearms and explosives
Voice Actor: Ai Kayano

A former Second-Year Elite from Hebijo. She comes from a poor backgorund and
lived in the slums where everyday was a struggle. Because of this she harbors
hatred for people who are rich and privileged like Ikaruga, but the two girls
eventually reconcile their differences and become friends. Her favorite food is
beansprouts because of her cheap they are and can often be found munching on
them or trying to tell others of their greatness. She actually does not seem to
care for money itself as long as she has enough to get by. Though she has a
pleasant appearance and demeanor she also harbors an aggressive side that comes
out when she's angry and during battle. Her rival is Ikaruga from Hanzo.

Fighting Style: Yomi is a heavy hitter who makes up for her low speed with her
huge attack power and range. Her stats are overall above average allowing her
to fight right in the enemy's face without flinching. She can cover her slow
movement speed by dashing making her only weakness even more minor. Her moves
can also be held to charge their attack power as well.

Breach Art: Yomi uses the crossbow on her arm to fire off a series of shuriken.
The longer it is charged the more shuriken are fired. Spreads out as they
travel and travel a large distance so it's good for attacking enemy groups from
afar.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Sigmund
Yomi enlarged her sword before bringing it straight down in front of her for a
powerful strike. Has decent range and can actually hit beside and behind her if
enemies are close enough. Deals high damage.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Niflheim
Yomi goes Rambo, unleashing her weapons and spraying bullets, shurikens, and
explosives in all directions. The projectiles themselves do good damage but
they're spread out over a wide area so having most of them hit one target is a
difficult task. Good for groups but Sigmund is better for single enemies. The
projectiles are unblockable.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Ragnarok
Yomi spins around wildly with her sword out causing a hurrican to surround.
Covers a good range and hits all around her like other whirlwind Ninja Arts.
Yomi is stationary during this, however, so make sure you use it in a group or
close to the boss.

~Mirai

Age: 15
Blood Type: A
Hobby: Browsing the Internet
Birthday: December 28
Favorite Food: Stew
Ninja Animal: Pit Viper
Weapon: Various firearms
Voice Actor: Saori Goto

A former First-Year of Hebijo. She was bullied when she was younger which
caused her to distrust people, but after becoming a student of Hebijo she
became friends with the other Elites. As the youngest member of the team she is
also the most childish and prone to throwing tantrums when things don't work
out. She is also self-concious about her flat chest and envies those that have
large breasts. She hates being ignored and not taken seriously which caused her
to develop a fixation on Yagyu because she thinks the other girl doesn't take
her seriously. She's really into technology and can often be found browsing the
internet or playing games. Her rival is Yagyu from Hanzo.

Fighting Style: Mirai is a unique character. Unlike most of the girls who rely
on physical combat and weapons, Mirai instead uses her gun-umbrella and other
firearms to deal damage from a distance. Her defense is great but her attack
power isn't very high. Her health and endurance are low as well, but her moves
allow her to keep a good distance from her enemies without putting herself in
danger. Instead of a normal dash she has a backstep to put distance between
herself and any enemy that gets close. Her backstep has several frames of
invincibilty and is a strong tool when used right.

Breach Art: Mirai charges forward with her umbrella before releasing a blast

enemies.

L+Square: Secret Ninja Art 1: Valkyrie
Mirai pulls out a massive machinegun from under her skirt and fires off six
large blasts that travel in a straight line in front of her. The shots travel a
good distance and are unblockable but don't go through enemies or obstacles.
Not very good for crowds but can deal good damage on a single enemy.

L+Triangle: Secret Ninja Art 2: Wolfsschanze
Mirai reveals multiple guns from underneath her skirt before flying forward as
they all shoot wildly. Hits all around her and she can be controlled during the
attack making it good for groups.

L+O: Ultimate Ninja Art: Landkreuzer
Mirai summons several large guns and they all unload at once in front of her
for high damage. She is immobile during this but her direction can be changed
allowing her to focus the shots on different targets. If used from the right
range it can shred through a boss's life with ease. Unblockable.

~Mission Guide~

"Every light casts a shadow.
Yet within the depths of shadow, there is light.

They are opposite sides of the same coin.
Neither one can survive without the other.
But they can also never work together.

Therefore, they are doomed to fight a neverending battle.
And from that endless battle comes the principle of balance.

Still they fight through the ages with their very souls.
Whirling like dancers in the fires of passion.

Sometimes, light wins.
Sometimes, shadow wins.
Yin and yang together in conflict.

As it is in the shinobi schools...

From ages past to modern times,
these schools train each generation of shinobi.
It is said that there are several shinobi schools in Japan,
but no one truly knows how many.

This dueling tradition has been passed down for generations among shinobi
schools.

A battle for the honor, and the life, of each shinobi student's school. It
began in the Warring States, and now, in the Heisei period, it still rages.

The Shinobi Battle Royale draws shinobi students of all kinds from across Japan.

Who stands to gain,
and who will lose everything?

Witness the trials of these devoted students, who push themselves beyond all
limits to become shinobi, growing stronger every day...

And to prove that for this moment...they are alive."

SPOILER WARNING

This guide is meant to cover the main missions of each school's story mode. I
won't be doing a play by play retelling of the entire plot as it's something
best experienced on your own, but I will be giving brief descriptions about the
mission that cover the general story at the time. I try to keep spoilers to a
minimum and not refer to major plot twists specifically, but they will come up
at times, especially during the mission descriptions in the later chapters.
Read at your own risk.

~Mission Rankings

Your rank at the end of a mission is decided by your combo count, damage taken,
and time it took to complete. Of these, time and combo count are the biggest
deciding factors. However a high enough combo count will count more than
anything even if you take a lot of damage or spend a lot of time on the mission.

~Rewards

Clearing certain missions rewards you with new items and clothing for the
dressing room. You will get these items regardless of rank so don't worry about
missing any. Note that even after you unlock something it must be brought from
the store before it can actually be used. There are a few exceptions to this,
but the majority of the items must be bought from the store first. Once an item
is purchased it can be used by every character, even ones from different
schools.

~Character

Your first time playing a mission you must use the character required by the
story. After clearing a mission once, however, you can go back and play it
again with any character you want. Characters have their own individual
rankings for missions.

~Shinobi Girl's Heart

These are extra missions outside of the main missions that can be played at any
time by selecting them from the mission select screen. Each story consists of 5
missions for the chosen girl, and after completing them all you'll unlock a new
piece of artwork and a new color for the character's default Shinobi outfit.
These missions for the most part are silly side stories that have no impact on
the main story and are mostly for humor and some extra character development.
They can also be used to level up if you're having difficulty with the main
story, though these missions don't have a Hard Mode option.

No More Vengeance

Character: Imu

Goal: Defeat the boss!

Details: I've been so jealous of you, Murasaki...Please forgive me... - Imu

Time Limit: None
Difficulty: 5 Star (Normal), 10 Star (Hard)

Description: Ryobi and Ryona reunite to prepare to finally take down Miyabi.
Before they can, however, they are confronted by a berserk Imu. It seems she
has finally awakened the latent power inside of her and can now make use of the
Root of Calamity like her sister. Near crazy with grief and rage, the reborn
Imu faces down the sisters to make them pay for their betrayal.

Advice: I generally don't give advice because most of the missions are pretty
simple, but this one deserves special mention. Here you'll be fighting both
Ryobi and Ryona at the same time. This mission can be difficult even on normal
due to having to deal with two boss characters. Along with that, Imu's defense
and health aren't exactly that great and the two can easily shave down her
health quickly if you're not careful. You'll want to take out Ryona first
because she can freeze you which can prove fatal in a battle like this. Make
use of Imu's quick dash for hit and run tactics to whittle Ryona down and don't
be afraid to abuse your Ninja Arts to stack on the damage. Imu's second Ninja
Art works especially well if you can manage to get both with it. If possible
try not to let them both Shinobi Transform at the same time or else you'll be
dealing with them using their Ninja Arts as well. Once one of the sisters fall
it becomes an average battle against a single boss after that, so use your
standard tactics from there. On another note, Imu is surrounded by a purple
aura in this battle signifying her having awakened her Root of Calamity power,
but it doesn't actually grant you any boosts during combat.

Rewards: None

~5-04
What Shinobi Need

Calamity proves to be too much to handle and drives her berserk. Miyabi arrives
on the scene to find her friend blindly attacking anyone who approaches,
including herself. Suzune shows up to tell Miyabi to fall back, warning her
that Imu's power is on the level of a Yoma. But Miyabi refuses to back down.
Recalling how Imu saved her and supported her back then, she promises to bring
her friend back to her senses and be the one that saves Imu this time! Suzune
asks if Miyabi realizes now what it is a shinobi needs to truly be strong, and
Miyabi says she does as she prepares to save her friend from the power
consuming her...

a loss for words for a moment. Unable to come up with a decent response, the

Kurokage became a renegade because of his mission, Hanzo was praised and became
famous as a good shinobi. Before they parted ways Hanzo told Kurokage that
everyone has a bit of evil in them, and wanting to eliminate all evil is
perhaps evil in itself. Back then Kurokage didn't understand what he meant, but
after taking in Yumi and the others he began to see what his old friend was
talking about. Too late did he realize that his grudge and hatred was being
transfered to his beloved granddaughters who were on the way to heading down
the same path he did. With no other options he pleads for the only person he
can count on to help them and show them the right path...Hanzo. Back in the
present, Yumi and the Gessen girls have tracked down Homura's squad who have
been hiding in a cave after becoming renegades. Though they aren't an official
school anymore, Yumi can't forgive the fact that they were once evil and
therefore need to be eliminated. Mirai volunteers to fight Shiki and is
surprised to find that the girl is apparently an avid reader. Once more Shiki
brings up not judging people by their looks but still manages to get on Mirai's
nerves due to her way of speaking. The two prepare to fight, though Shiki says

on.

shinobi and the two of them must still do battle. If Ikaruga wishes to request
something of her than she must defeat her in battle first. Ikaruga resolves
herself to do just that, and Murakumo approvingly comments that she draws her

says that she won't lose this time, not after training with Homura. Yumi tells
her that at one point that would have bothered her, but through her other
battles she has come to realize something. Good or evil, shinobi are still
shinobi. At one time she couldn't even begin to understand good and evil being
friends, but now...She's starting to see things differently. Asuka asks if the
concept is something she can accept, but Yumi says she doesn't know yet. For
better or for worse, their next fight will decide things, and maybe allow Yumi
to come to terms with her feelings regarding light and darkness.

Note: This is a two part battle. After defeating Asuka the first time you'll be
thrown into another fight with her immediately. Your stats from the first fight
carry over to the second fight, including the mode you were in when you

brother, Murasame. At one point Murasame was meant to wield the sword Ikaruga
carries and become the heir to the family, but when it became clear his skills
as a shinobi were lacking, his parents adopted Ikaruga and raised her as the
successor instead. Since then he has been filled with resentment and hate
towards his younger sister for stealing his dream and it looks like he's come
to get his revenge...or so it seems. After a heartfelt speech Ikaruga realizes
that her brother came to cheer her on and not resent her anymore. The
revelation is enough to make her forget any doubts she has about herself and
she becomes determined to graduate not only for herself, but to carry on her
brother's dream in his steed. She and the others are interrupted, however, by
the arrival of the girls from the Gessen Academy and their intent to start a

Details: I want the power to protect everyone too... - Hibari

Time Limit: None

Difficulty: 1 Star (Normal), 6 Star (Hard)

Description: Kiriya takes some time to explain the Shinobi Battle Royale in
more detail. Not only will the losers have their school burned down, but they
can also never train to be shinobi again ever. Understandably this sets the
girls on edge but once the challenge has been issues there's no denying it.
Hibari is feeling nervous and doesn't think she has gotten strong enough to be
a help to everyone...which in turn leads to her unknowingly activating a Secret
Ninja Art that causes everyone to attack each other. The only way to dispel it
is by defeating them, so Hibari has no choice but to fight her friends and snap
them back to normal.

Advice: You'll be fighting the other girls in pairs. First Ikaruga and
Katsuragi and then Asuka and Yagyu. Try to lure them away from each other so
you can take on one at a time and not get double-teamed and overwhelmed. It's
best to focus on one so both don't end up transforming at the same time if you
can't kill them fast enough.

themselves to not give up. But a new force stands in their way. The new Elites
from the rebuilt Hebijo Academy issue a challenge for another Shinobi Battle
Royale, giving the girls no time to rest. Imu is eager to fight Katsuragi to
show her that just because she beat a weakling doesn't mean she's strong.

~3-04
Vs. New Hebijo

Character: Asuka

Goal: Defeat the boss!

Details: The new Hebijo...I wish we didn't have to hurt each other. - Asuka

Time Limit: None

Difficulty: 4 Star (Normal), 9 Star (Hard)

Description: Miyabi confronts Asuka, but instead of a one-on-one duel Ryobi and
Ryona are tired of waiting around and want to join in too. Asuka is curious
about the strange personalities of the twins, but Miyabi says it doesn't
matter. They're enemies and that's all she needs to know. Asuka argues that
before you can fight someone you must understand them, but Miyabi disagree.
What reason is there to understand someone before you kill them? Asuka doesn't
agree with that way of thinking but has no choice but to fight as the three
girls close in.

Advice: In this battle you will be fighting three bosses at once. Miyabi,
Ryobi, and Ryona. This can be a very difficult fight especially on Hard Mode.
Miyabi hits hard and fast, Ryobi can blast away at you from a distance with her
quick attacks, and Ryona can freeze you. If they all gang up on you it can lead
to a quick defeat. Try to draw one of them away from the others and take care
of them quickly. Miyabi and Ryona will most likely try to rush you down first
while Ryobi tends to keep her distance. Asuka's Full Bloom Ninja Art is good
for laying the hurt on the girls, especially if you can catch more than one at
once. As usual try not to let all three transform at the same time as you don't
want to deal with their Ninja Arts on top of everything else. This is a tough
battle and there's no shame in using hit and run tactics instead of trying to
face all three head on. My advice is to take out Miyabi first since she deals
the most damage, and then Ryona to avoid having to deal with being frozen.
After that Ryobi goes down pretty easily alone.

The Ultimate Secret

Character: Ikaruga

Goal: Defeat the boss!

Details: Time for a whole new lesson. - Kiriya

Time Limit: 5 Minutes

Difficulty: 4 Star (Normal), 9 Star (Hard)

Description: The Hanzo girls need to prepare for their rematch against Gessen,
but as they are now Kiriya isn't sure if they're up for it. To remedy this he
asks Homura and her group to help train the girls. We also learn a bit more
about Kiriya's past and the one thing he regrets the most. However, to make
sure something like that never happens again is the reason why he's asking
Homura's group for help. If the Hanzo girls are going to stand a chance against
Gessen, they must first unlock their true potential and master the Ultimate
Hidden Ninja Arts. But to do so requires a battle against an opposing force. In
other words, light vs. dark. Yin vs. Yang. Since the Hanzo girls are good
shinobi and Homura's group are technically still evil shinobi, the reason
Kiriya asked them for help becomes clear. First up is Ikaruga against Yomi.

Rewards: Ikaruga's Ultimate Ninja Art Unlocked.

~4-02
Keep it Simple

Character: Katsuragi

Goal: Defeat the boss!

Details: I can't lose this...No matter what... - Katsuragi

Time Limit: None

Difficulty: 4 Star (Normal), 9 Star (Hard)

Description: Next is Katsuragi's traing with Hikage. Katsuragi can't even
manage to land a single hit on the former Hebijo Elite and doesn't understand
what's wrong. Hikage tells her that she's thinking too much and just needs go
with the flow like she always does. But with her parent's fate in her hands and
having to face an opponent that won't quit unless she kills her, the Hanzo girl
doesn't know what to do. Hikage says the answer is simple; Just get strong
enough to beat Yozakura without killing her, then she can save her parents,
spare Yozakura's life, and everyone will be happy. Katsuragi asks if it's
really that simple, but soon realizes the truth in Hikage's words. If she can
master her Ultimate Ninja Art then there just might be a way to what Hikage is
saying. With this new resolve she's ready to fight and back to her normal self.
Hikage tells her to never change, because when she's around her she can almost
feel what it's like to have fun.

Advice: In this stage there are three large boulders you must break to advance
and trigger Hikage's appearance as the boss. However, enemies will continue to
spawn endlessly until you break the boulders. This makes this a great stage to
level on as you can keep killing enemies forever. It's also a good stage to get
the 7000 hit trophy on as well. Once you clear the stage once, you can come
back to it with another character to take advantage of the leveling trick
again, so keep that in mind. When you're done killing enemies and leveling up,
break the three boulders to advance.

Rewards: Katsuragi's Ultimate Ninja Art Unlocked.

Details: It's always because of my eyes...Why me? - Hibari

Time Limit: None

Difficulty: 4 Star (Normal), 9 Star (Hard)

Description: Hibari is happy to see Haruka still doing well, but her happiness
gives way to sadness quickly as she realizes what's bothering her. We learn
more about Hibari's past and her special power known as Kagan which manifests
in her eyes. She comes from a long line of shinobi but never wanted to be one
herself. But when the Kagan manifested in her eyes and marked her as the
family's heir, she had no choice. Since then she's always been suspicious of
why everyone is so nice to her, thinking that maybe she's unknowingly
controlling them with her Kagan. Haruka is quick to chase away her worries.
After all, the Kagan isn't powerful enough to control so many people at once

~Enemies~

~Normal Enemies

Rookie Shinobi: Your basic fodder enemies. They appear in large groups and
carry kunai, shuriken, and wakizashi. Despite the large numbers they appear in
they usually aren't much of a threat and can be easily cleared out with normal
attacks and basic moves. Their only attacks are a regular attack and a jumping
slash, both of which are easy to see coming and dodge or block. On Hard Mode
they can take away a decent chunk of life if you aren't careful, especially if
you're in Frantic mode, but for the most part you can carve through them before
they have a chance to do anything. They often accompany bosses and stronger
enemies.

Intermediate Shinobi: Shinobi that carry bows and arrows to attack from a
distance. Like Rookie Shinobi, they tend to appear in large groups and
alongside other enemy types. Also like Rookie Shinobi, they aren't much of a
threat in normal situations and fall easily, but their ability to attack from a
distance while you're distracted with other enemies can be annoying. It's
usually best to take them out first if they spawn alongside other enemies. On
Hard Mode their arrows can be surprisingly deadly, especially if you get hit by
multiple shots at once that can easily knock off over half your health if you
aren't leveled high enough. Their attacks include a basic shot with their bow
and a scattershot that can hit multiple times.

Advance/Wolf Shinobi: Tall Shinobi that wear wolf masks and carry a katana. One
of the stronger enemy types for their ability to take several hits without
flinching and their attack which can also deal decent damage and cause
paralysis. They don't spawn in large groups, generally only about 1-3 showing
up at a time, but they tend to be more aggressive than fodder type enemies and
will relentlessly pursue you. On Hard Mode they are not to be underestimated
due to their strong strikes and ability to paralyze you. It's best to take them
out as quickly as possible over other enemies that may spawn with them.

Turtle Shinobi: As their name implies, Turtle Shinobi wear tough shells on
their body which protect them from attacks. While guarding they are completely
immune to damage and their guard must be broken with an appropriate attack
first. They spawn in small groups most of the time and often alongside other
enemy type. An annoying enemy type because most of the time they tend to just
sit there blocking, forcing you to go out of your way to engage them. If
possible, use a Ninja Art that breaks guards and attacks a decent area to try
and mop them up as quickly as possible. They also carry with them large
bazookas which they use to attack and can cause burn damage if they hit you. On
Hard Mode these attacks do quite a big chunk of damage, so be careful not to
ignore them and get hit by surprise.

Weasel Shinobi: Shinobi with sharp claws that wear a weasel mask. They appear
in large groups by springing forth from the ground before circling your
character quickly. They will circle around you for a few seconds before quickly
charging forward to attack you with their claws. Their attacks have a chance to
freeze you and they tend to synchronize their assault as well, attacking you
one after another or all at once. They can be annoying to hit because of their
constant movement, but you can easily escape their encirclement by simply
jumping out of it or luring them near a wall. Be careful facing these enemies
on Hard Mode. If they all attack at once they can deal huge damage and freeze
you in the process, which can spell a quick defeat. If possible use a Ninja Art
that surrounds you or covers a wide range so you can try to take them all out
at once. Their initial appearance when they spring from the ground can also
harm you if you're too close or an top of them, so be wary of that as well.

Rat Shinobi: Rarely spawning enemies with red hair and goggles. They carry
boxes on their backs and upon being defeated drop a useful item such as an
attack booster or invincibility buff. While they tend to run away and not
engage you directly in combat, they can throw bombs at you if they're in range,
so be careful if they spawn in the midst of dealing with other enemies. It's
usually worth it to chase them down and defeat them to get the item they drop,
especially in Hard Mode.

Falcon Shinobi: Shinobi dressed as birds that appear by divekicking from the
sky. Like Weasel Shinobi, their initial appearance can harm you, so be careful
when they spawn. Falcon Shinobi are dangerous foes who hit hard and fast and
can also poison you with their attacks. Combine that with their tendency to
spawn alongside lesser shinobi and you can be in a bad situation if you aren't
careful. Thankfully, despite their aggressiveness, they don't take much to
finish off. Try and defeat them quickly before they can poison you and shave
off too much health. On Hard Mode you'll want to be really careful of their
initial spawn as it is possible for them to kill you before you have a chance
to do anything if your level is too low.

Bear/Panda Shinobi: Large, fat shinobi that pack a powerful punch and have high
defense. Like the Wolf Shinobi, these enemies are a good deal stronger than
normal fodder types and can be quite dangerous even though they spawn in small
numbers. They have high defense and don't stagger easily from normal moves, so
the best way to deal with them is to launch them into the air quickly and kill
them with a series of Aerial Raves. They have three ways of attacking you. From
far away they will curl themselves into a ball before rolling at you at a
decent speed and trying to crush you. They only go a certain distance before
stopping and they also can't change their direction once they start rolling, so
this attack is pretty easy to dodge if you see it coming. Just be careful if
one of them are offscreen as you don't want to get hit in the back by this. At
close range they will either spread their arms out and try to hit you with a
spinning attack, or charge up for a moment before jumping into the air and
trying to bellyflop you. All of their attacks can take off a big chunk of
health, especially on Hard Mode, but they're easy to see coming and to dodge.
They should be your first priority if they spawn in an enemy group or alongside
a boss, as you don't want one to catch you by surprise and take off a good part
of your health. It's never a bad idea to bust out a Ninja Art to quickly take
them down, especially on Hard Mode.

Training Robots: Found mostly in training mode though they appear in some
normal missions as well. Training Robots are wooden dolls meant to be sparring
partners to help brush up your skills. As their name implies they're mostly
just for knocking around in training mode, and even when they appear as actual
enemies in missions they aren't much of a threat at all. Their only attack is a
slow wind-up punch that you should never feasibly get hit by.

~Bosses

At the end of most missions you'll find yourself facing off against a boss,
though some missions start with you fighting the boss right off the bat. Bosses
are other playable characters from the game and as such they have access to the
same moves and techniques you would have when actually controlling them. They
can Burst out of combos, Shinobi Transform to restore their health, and can use
Ninja Arts. Unlike you, however, their Ninja Art gauge is infinite, meaning
they can use Ninja Arts as much as they want as often as they want, making them
a bit more dangerous.

Boss fights are generally one-on-one duels, though in later stages normal
enemies tend to spawn with the boss to make things more challenging. In some
rare cases you may fight multiple bosses at the same time, though this only
happens in a few story missions.

To be honest, pretty much every boss in the game can be beaten just by rushing
them down and spamming Ninja Arts before they have a chance to do anything or
transform. On Hard Mode, however, facing them head on can be a bit riskier and
you're a bit more likely to die if they manage to get a lucky strike in. For
the sake of the guide I'll give a brief rundown and some tips on each character
for anyone that may be having trouble.

~Asuka

Asuka can be a tough opponent to fight depending on who you're using. Her
attacks are quick and she tends to come at you constantly, giving you little
breathing room. If that's not enough the AI loves to abuse her Breach Art from
a distance, allowing her to instantly home in on you no matter where you are
and launch you in the air for an Aerial Rave if you don't block or parry it.
Always try to keep her in your sights at all times to avoid getting caught by
her Breach Art off guard. Thankfully her defense and endurance aren't that
great so she's not that hard to take down once you get going. All of her Ninja
Arts can easily be avoided on reaction and generally shouldn't be a problem,
but you should still take care not to get caught off guard by the speed and
distance of Dual Slash.

~Ikaruga

Like other quick attackers, Ikaruga can be difficult to approach and get a
combo going due to the speed of her strikes as well as her range. Getting past
her long reach can be a challenge if the character you're using has short range
attacks, so it's best to keep your distance and wait for an opening or parry
one of her rapid strikes to stun her. Once you get in on her, however, she is
very easy to stagger and get a combo started due to her low endurance and
defense. Do not underestimate her speed though as she can easily close the
distance to you and pick up on her lightning quick strikes in an instant. The
AI generally doesn't tend to use her Ninja Arts that much but Hien Hosen: Mode
One can be dangerous due to its unblockable nature. Be ready to dash away to
safety at a moment's notice.

~Katsuragi

With her high endurance, attack, defense, and health, Katsuragi can be an
intimidating foe to face. She can tank through a lot of attacks without
flinching and lay the hurt on you with her heavy kicks that smash through a
weaker character's defenses easily. You'll have to take advantage of her slow
speed to find an opening to get a Breach Art or Launcher in so you can get a
combo started. Never underestimate the power and reach of her Ninja Arts,
especially Tornado Spindle which is capable of drawing you in and shaving your
health down in an instant.

~Yagyu

Yagyu employs rapid, long reaching attacks that can chip away at your health
quickly even though she doesn't do much damage. For the most part, however, the
AI just loves to stay in the air and spam her aerial attack over and over,
throwing balls of ink at you. This is more of an annoyance than anything as
you'll have to wait for her to reach the ground before you can get a real combo
started. Once she does, however, her high defense is offset by her low health
and endurance allowing you to stagger and combo her quite easily. Be warned
that her attacks are capable of freezing you. If frozen be sure to burst by
pressing down on the D-pad ASAP before she can start a combo. From close range
watch out for her Sweeping Legs Ninja Art as it covers a wide range.

~Hibari

While Hibari can be an effective character in human controlled hands, the AI
doesn't really know how to handle her to her full potential. For the most part
she'll spend a lot of time in the air doing her butt poound over and over but
this is quite easy to avoid or parry. Once she comes down to earth her awkward
and clumsy attacks are easy to avoid and because of their slowness can be
parried easily as well. None of her stats are particularly impressive, but
you'll want to watch out for her Breach Art which is capable of paralyzing you.
Paralysis can not be escaped by bursting, so it can put you in a bad spot if
she follows up with a combo or Ninja Art.

~Yumi

The most dangerous thing about fighting Yumi is her ability to freeze you from
a distance, in the air, and up close. Like Yagyu the AI likes to spend a good
time in the air with her using her aerial attack, so you'll have to chase her
down or wait for her to come back to the ground. Once she does her high defense
allows her to survive a bit longer than others but she doesn't have the
endurance and health to back it up. As long as you can avoid being frozen you
don't have much to worry about. Be wary of Ice Pillar Fan up close. It covers a
huge range and is unblockable, so if she activates it try and jump and air dash
away as quickly as possible.

~Shiki

Shiki can be a tricky and dangerous character to fight. She has above average
attack power and endurance making her sturdy in close range combat even though
her health and defense aren't that great. Not only can she deal good damage to
you with her long reaching attacks, but they also have a chance to cause
poison, and since a lot of her attacks are multi-hitting it's almost guaranteed
if she catches you in a combo. Her Breach Art is like Asuka's in that she can
home in on you from anywhere on the stage, making it dangerous to take your
eyes off of her for even a moment. Both her Ninja Arts may only attack in front
of her, but they're both quite fast and Ku Soku ZIX covers a large distance and
can draw you in if you accidentally stray too close. Her normal attacks have a
bit of a gap between them, so look for an opening then try and smack her with a
Launcher to get a combo started. Parrying is a risk due to her damage and
ability to poison you but yields great reward if you can pull it off.

~Murakumo

With her speedy attacks that cover a good range, Murakumo is similar to
Ikaruga. But also like Ikaruga her low health and endurance means she falls
quite easily once you get your assault going. Watch out for her diving attack
in the air. The AI likes to use it a lot and it will launch you on hit allowing
her to follow up with an air combo. Her Ninja Arts cover a good range and
travel a long distance but can be blocked or easily avoided by jumping and air
dashing away.

~Yozakura

Yozakura is all about hitting hard while ignoring your attack in return. Her
health, attack, defense, and endurance are all good so facing her close up can
be risky. Take advantage of her poor range and slow speed to attack from a
distance or to find an opening to use your Launcher. Since her attacks are
pretty slow you can parry them rather easily, just be prepared to take a heavy
beating if you mess up. Her 1000 Palm Fists of Paradise is unblockable and does
high damage, but you can avoid it simply be dashing to the side or behind her.

~Minori

Like Hibari, Minori can be a very useful and effective character in human
hands, but the AI simply doesn't know how to abuse her moveset to its maximum
potential. As such she's really not much of a threat. Because the AI isn't
likely to make use of her Snack Charge to boost her stats, they remain average
and she falls pretty quickly under any assault. The only thing you need to
watch out for is her Snack Party Ninja Art as it's unblockable, covers a good
range, and can even hit you if you're in the air.

~Miyabi

Miyabi is a powerful fighter that can be a troublesome opponent. Her attack,
health, defense, and endurance are all quite high and her speed isn't anything
to scoff at either. Along with this her moves can cause the burn status, only
adding to her already dangerous damage output. Characters with low health and
defense will find themselves in critical condition if they let their guard down
for even a moment. Miyabi is ruthless up close and can chase you down with her
Breach Art for a quick and powerful Launcher and then follow up with an air
combo. If she catches you in a combo you'll want to burst immediately to
minimize damage as much as possible before looking for a chance to
counterattack. Ranged attacks are your best option for dealing with her, but if
your character lacks those you'll have to brave the fire and fight her face to
face. As always parrying is a good chance to make an opening, but you'll have
to be good with your timing. Do not be ashamed to retreat and abuse hit and run
tactics with your Ninja Art to whittle down her health. Of her own Ninja Arts,
Purgatorio of Good and Evil is especially dangerous as it covers a huge range,
does high damage, and can pull you in. It's hard to escape if she activates it
from point blank, but it can be blocked if you're not in the middle of
attacking. If you see her activate and don't think you can block, try to jump
and air dash away before it catches you.

~Imu

Imu's speed is her greatest strength. Her other stats are quite low, but she
can get to you quickly and start an assault with her lightning fast and rapid
hitting attacks that can be hard to defend against. Along with this she can
also paralyze you, and since you can't burst while paralyzed this can be fatal
if you're low on health or have low defense. Thankfully her own endurance and
defense aren't that great and her health is quite low, so if you can get your
assault started before she can start hers, you'll be at an advantage and she'll
go down quite fast. You want to watch out for her Dead Fox Ninja Art. It's
fast, unblockable, covers a good range, and can paralyze you. Avoid it by
jumping into the air dashing away as best you can.

~Murasaki

The gloomy Hebijo girl has good health and endurance and can pack a
surprisingly heavy punch. Her attacks are quite slow though and easy to defend
or parry. Just be careful of their reach and range, as they tend to cover a
wide area and can even hit you if your beside or behind her.  Watch out for her
Breach Art as well. She can use it to tank hits before sending you flying and
following up with a combo. Her Just Let Me Die Ninja Art is dangerous as it
causes a large orb of unblockable energy to surround her completely, so if you
see her activate it be sure to dash to safety.

~Ryobi

The sadistic sister can be an annoying opponent due to her ability to attack
you from a range and catch you off guard with her quick hitting assaults. Her
Breach Art causes her to fire a scattershot of bullets that can launch you into
the air even from a range if you get caught in the blast, but even if it misses
the bullets will richochet around the stage and still do damage if they hit.
Thankfully she's not too powerful and her health and endurance are quite low
even though her defense is decent. She'll fall to any series of hard hitting
attacks without much trouble. Both of her Ninja Arts can be blocked or easil
dodged so they don't present much a threat.

~Ryona

The masochistic sister can prove to be a tougher match than twin. Although her
stats are all fairly balanced, she has the ability to freeze you with her
rapid, multi-hitting attacks. Her Breach Art which causes her to spin around
wildly while shooting her guns and moving quickly can make her difficult to hit
as well. Despite this, she's not meant to slug it out in prolonged combat and
is easy to overpower. As long as you can avoid being frozen the fight against
her isn't too tough to handle. Watch out for her Ninja Arts. Both of them are
unblockable and can freeze you, though they're rather easy to dodge.

~Homura

With six swords in hand, Homura can quickly carve through anything her path,
including you. Homura's only really low stat is her defense, but her high
endurance and attack allows her to fight up close and dish ruthlessly dish out
the pain with her six swords. Her attacks are decently fast and cover a good
range and also carry the chance to burn you, so be careful. Her low defense
means she can fall fast, however, so it's mostly a matter of beating her down
before she can get started. Watch out for her Charge Ninja Art. It can be
blocked but comes out fast and covers a huge range, so if it catches you off
guard prepare to take some hefty damage. In the rare case that she activates
her Crimson Mode keep your distance until it wears off as she is invincible to
harm while it lasts.

~Hikage

Hikage's speedy attacks and quick dash can make her hard to deal with, and her
rapid assault combined with her ability to poison you can spell trouble once
she closes in. Her health, defense, and endurance are pretty low though, so
once you actually catch her the battle goes smoothly from there. Her Shanking
Ninja Art is fast and unblockable even though the range isn't that impressive,
but it can cause poison as well so it goes without saying that it should be
avoided. Like with Homura, if she manages to activate her Frenzy Mode try to
run away until it runs out since she's invincible while it lasts. Though this
is a more difficult attack as she's nowhere near as slow as Homura is and can
easily chase you down. Try to stick to the air as her ground attacks are
incredibly fast in Frenzy Mode and cover a wide area.

~Yomi

As you would expect from someone wielding such a huge sword, Yomi's attack
power is very high. Not only that, but her health, defense, and endurance are
good too, while her speed is average. Up close her sword attacks cover a huge
range with their large swings and she can tank through a lot of your attacks
and send you flying in return. She also has options for attacking you from afar
with her arm mounter shuriken shooter, making her a dangerous opponent even
from far away. On Hard Mode she can easily wipe you out with only a few
attacks, so you must always be on your toes when fighting her. Your best bet is
to pelt her with Ninja Arts instead of trying to get a full combo going, as
she'll mostly break out of it and turn the pain on you instead. Her swings are
rather slow, so if you're feeling brave you can go for a parry as well. Both
her Ninja Arts can be dangerous. Sigmund is unblockable and deals high damage
and is capable of hitting beside and behind her if you're too close. Niflheim
causes her to spin around while shooting unblockable projectiles which pack
quite a punch and cover a large area, so take to the air to avoid them.

~Haruka

Mistress Haruka is as dangerous to fight as she is seductive. While her defense
may be low her other stats are nothing to scoff at and she does surprisingly
well in close combat. Her puppet makes it difficult to get close enough to her
to start a combo and will easily shut down a lot of your frontal approaches
with no problem. Try to use an attack that allows you to rush at her quickly
and send her flying to follow up with an air combo. By far the most dangerous
thing about Haruka is her ability to cause numerous status effects on you with
her attacks. In the worst case scenario, you can find yourself hit with up to 3
or 4 status effects at once which will quickly put you at a disadvantage.
DeathxKiss should be avoided at all cost, which can be difficult at close range
due to its quick speed and ability to home in on you. There is no shame in
playing it safe against Haruka, especially on Hard Mode. Keep your distance and
throw Ninja Arts at her if you're having trouble finding an opening. Getting
cocky and trying to engage her in a straight battle can quickly spell your doom.

~Mirai

The trigger happy Mirai can be an annoying opponent to deal with. All of her
stats are low aside from her defense, but her ability to rapidly gun you down
from a safe distance can prove to be an issue to some characters. Mirai's AI
tends to be incredibly aggressive and will fire at you relentlessly and make
you feel like you're playing a bullet hell. She's also usually smart enough to
keep her distance too, making you have to come to her while avoiding the
endless stream of bullets she keep coming at you. Once you close the distance
between you and her her close combat skills are nothing to write home about and
she falls quickly despite her high defense. Make use of air dashes to avoid her
bullets and close in quickly. Both of her Ninja Arts are unblockable and can
catch you off guard if you're not careful. Valkyrie especially can be an
annoyance as she likes to bust it out while you're busy dealing with the mooks
that spawn alongside her and its reach allows her to hit you even from across
the stage.

~Tips and Tricks~

~Shinobi Transformation

Activating Shinobi Transformation not only boosts your stats and gives you
access to your Ninja Arts, but it also restores your health to full. This is
one of the first things you'll learn but never forget it. Sometimes it's best
to hold off on transforming until you really need to.

~Remember to Burst!

Pressing down on the D-pad causes you to Burst for 10% of your life to blow
enemies back and get out of a combo. This will be your main tool for escaping
boss combos so remember it!

~Ninja Arts

Ninja Arts not only do large damage or can take out enemy groups, but they are
also useful for another reason. During a Ninja Art your character is invincible
for the entire duration of the attack's animation. When used right this can
allow you to avoid enemy attacks if you don't think you can dodge or get away
in time. If a boss activates their Ninja Art and you're too close to escape,
activate your own Ninja Art right away. You may not damage them, but you'll
escape taking heavy damage yourself.

~Dodge Dodge Dodge!

Your character is invincible for a brief moment while pressing O to do a quick
dodge. Not only does this let you cancel combos to dodge an attack, but it's
also good for moving between enemies to keep a combo going.

~Learn to Burst Bait!

When fighting bosses, they will almost always pull off a Shinobi Transformation
once they get down to 50% health or below. They will always burst if they're in
the middle of a combo or attack at the time as well. By anticipating this you
can prepare a Ninja Art or Breach Art to catch them right as they get done
bursting and never give them a chance to transform and regain their health.

~Keep your combo going

You gain experience not only by killing enemies, but simply by hitting them as
well. Every hit you land on an enemy gives you EXP, even if they're already
dead. So it's important to keep your combo count high to maximize the amount of
experience you get and level faster. The best place to do this is Katsuragi's
mission in Chapter 4 of Hanzo's story. As long as you don't break the three
boulders to trigger the boss' appearance, enemies will spawn endlessly.
Activate Frantic, sweep them to a corner, and just mash away while listening to
music or watching TV. You'll hit level 50 in no time. This is also good for
getting the trophy for a 7000 hit combo.
