Your level is increased for every step you take, how many things
you examine, how many people you talk to, and how many Hope Shards
you get.
Your level is equal to your SP. You need SP to equip skills that
you've purchased or unlocked that can help you in the Class Trials.
Running uses less steps than walking but it is faster. Try to navigate
manually rather than just using the map to instant travel as you want
to both level up and raise your pet faster (more on that in the Pet
section).
Welcome to Dangan Island!
Panic at the Heart-Throbbing School Trip!?
===============================================================================
When you have control, examine your surroundings (press the triangle button to
enter observation mode) and talk to the person in front of you.
Leave and run left past the bridge to the Central Island and enter the Ranch
- Usami Corral
Here you'll see Usami pull off some more neat tricks and meet two fellow
classmates, Hiyoko Saionji (Ultimate Traditional Dancer) and Akane Owari
(Ultimate Gymnast ). Talk to them and get your first hope shards from each of
them.
Leave and walk left to the next destination - the Hotel.
Press Triangle to open up the map to help you navigate around the Hotel Site.
By now you should have taken one hundred steps so a notification should pop
up in the lower left side of your HUD. Open up your e-Handbook and check on
your pet. This is Chibimi, your first pet. Read the Pet section of the guide
to learn more about raising pets. You can't do anything with her right now so
continue exploring while checking periodically to clean up after her with the
Square button.
Go forward and right to talk to Nekomaru Nidai (Ultimate Team Manager) and
get his hope shard. On the other side of the pool is (Ultimate Yakuza)
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu.
In the left corner outside the hotel is Mahiru Koizumi (Ultimate
Photographer). Grab both their hope shards and go inside the hotel.
You can't go into the Old Building yet.
In the lobby is Peko Pekoyama (Ultimate Swordswoman) and on the right is
Chiaki Nanami (Ultimate Gamer). Take the stairs up to the restaurant.
Inside is Teruteru Hanamura (Ultimate Cook) and Sonia Nevermind (Ultimate
Princess). Exit back to the map and walk left.
Entering the supermarket will automatically introduce you to Mikan Tsumiki
(Ultimate Nurse). Talk to Ibuki Mioda (Ultimate Musician) on the right.
Continue on outside and make your way to the airport.
Automatically, Kazuichi Soda (Ultimate Mechanic) will introduce himself,
he'll bring up the school trip guidelines in the e-Handbook in case you
didn't read through it. On his left is (Ultimate Breeder) Gundham Tanaka.
When you're done, cross the bridge and go to Central Island. Walk around to
the left, past the locked gate (of which there are four, numbered 2-5) and
head into Jabberwock Park.
In Jabberwock Park is, to those that played the first game, a familiar
figure, Byakyua Togami (Ultimate Affluent Progeny) looking... different.
Once you've collected Byakyua's Hope Shard a school bell should ring and
Nagito will direct you to look at a nearby screen. Usami will make an
announcement. Head back to the beach.
The other students will talk about what they've found and Byakuya will
mention the "truth" about the island. Talk to Byakuya again for some
exposition but before that talk to the others to get their reactions.
Talking to others before plot development is something you should get in
the habit of doing if you want to help increase your level faster. Byakuya
will mention the name of the island is Jabberwock Island and then Usami
will return. Watch the scene unfold and when the others leave you have time
to talk to three other students before the rest come back, but it isn't too
important. Watch the scene where the others come back.
Once you have control over Hajime again, open up your map and head to your
cottage. Watch a quick scene and then the first Monokuma Theater.
Listen to Monokuma's Morning Announcement and then his explanation about the
stuffed animals. We can now start collecting the Monokuma figurines as well
as access the vending machines, but we'll get to that later. First investigate
Hinata's room. Above the shower is the first figurine. You'll also get
Monocoins for every Hidden Monokuma you find. Note that Monokumas don't show
up in observation mode.
Head outside and you'll run into Kazuichi and Peko. Monokuma will show up and
explain that the gates are now being blocked by the guardians of Jabberwock
Island, Monobeasts.
Head on over to the restaurant.
Inside the lobby chat with Chiaki and then follow her up the stairs.
Watch the scene play out and feel free talk to the other characters to get
some more dialogue. Talk to Byakuya when you're ready to move the meeting
along. When the meeting gets moved talk to Akane and Gundham who stayed behind
in the restaurant and Sonia and Mahiru in the lobby. Also Kazuichi who is back
at the hotel.
Note: If you have the Replica Sword (Present #104) in your inventory you'll
unlock a CG when you speak to Kazuichi.
Head to Central Island. Feel free to circle around to see the Guardians
blocking the gates. Head to Jabberwock Park when you're ready.
Check with everyone's thoughts before examing the ominous machine. When the
scene is over you'll find yourself back in Hajime's cottage along with a
helpful tutorial about Free Time.
Island Life: Daily Life (Free Time)
In DanganRonpa 2 each of the fifteen characters have six scenes that you can
view by spending time with them. It's not possible to view every character's
scene in one playthrough. Fortunately after completing the game once Island
Mode is unlocked allowing you to go back and collect any scenes you missed.
Viewing a character's scene nets you one Hope Shard. Hope Shards are used to
purchase skills to be used in the Class Trial. Viewing every scene for a
single character unlocks a special skill that can be also be used for the
Class Trial.
Note: Nagito is a special case when it comes to spending Free Time with him.
If you do not spend Free Time with him now you will not be able to gain any
more Hope Shards from him later on. You can, of course, spend time with him
in Island Mode after you've beaten the game to collect his Hope Shards.
You have Free Time to spend with two characters. All characters are available.
In any case, before spending Free Time with someone or going to bed let's
collect some Hidden Monokumas.
+===============================================================+
Hidden Monokumas
+===============================================================+
There are five Hidden Monokumas in every chapter - all with
the same outfit per chapter.

Chapter 1, in this case, has the Shell Bikini Monokuma. Some
Monokumas are in areas that are always open, others won't be
available until later in the chapter, and a select few are in
rooms you'll only have a limited amount of time to access and
if missed cannot be gotten until you beat and then replay the
chapter.
+===============================================================+
The first Monokuma you've already collected: above Hajime's shower.
The second Monokuma is located in the Supermarket in the back by the vending
machine.
The third Monokuma can be found at the airport on the right riding the
conveyor belt. You merely have to examine the belt to collect it instead of
selecting the Monobear when it comes around.
While you have some time, you may as well familiarize yourself with the
vending machines.
+===============================================================+
Vending Machines
+===============================================================+
There are two vending machines in this game. The first one,
if you'll remember, we saw at the Rocketpunch Market. Unlike
the vending machine in the last game, this one is not random.
It is stocked with a limited selection of gifts that you can
purchase with Monocoins. Monocoins can be gained by
collecting Hidden Monokumas, completing Class Trials, raising
a pet til it's fully grown, completing a stage for the
Magical Monomi mini-game, and completing a round of Island
Life - the extra mode you can unlock.

The second vending machine, the MonoMono Yachine, is located
at the beach. This one is exacatly like the first game's
capsule machine: the more coins you put in the lower the
chances of receiving a gift you already have - which is
indicated by the percentage on the top left of the screen.
+===============================================================+
After you've talked to two people or slept in your bed twice, Monokuma will
make an announcement. Head to Jabberwock Park.
We find Peko at the entrance. Head further in and watch the scene play out.
Feel free to get everyone's reaction to Kuzuryu then talk to him to get
things moving.
Settle back and enjoy the show. Press triangle for some canned laughter.
When the scene winds down Hinata will head back to his room and we'll be
treated to the second Monokuma Theater.
The next day, head outside the cottage and talk to Nagito. Afterwards hang
outside the restaurant and chat with Mikan, Hiyoko, and Mahiru. Inside the
Lobby is Ibuki and Chiaki.
Note: If you have the An An Aan (Present #105) in your inventory when you
speak to Mahiru, you'll unlock a CG.
Head up stairs and listen to Byakuya's plan.
We now have more Free Time to speak with two people if you're inclined.
Exceptions: Nagito, Fuyuhiko.
After Free Time, it's time to get ready for the party. Speak to Ibuki, Mikan,
and Peko hanging outside the Old Building.
The Old Building is actually a 3D enviornment, so take a moment to explore
after speaking to Byakuya. When you first enter take the first door on your
right, inside is the Office. In the bottom left corner in the open cabinet
is the fourth Hidden Monokuma.
Talk to Nekomaru and Sonia hanging out in the Hallway and speak to TeruTeru
in the kitchen.
Head inside get the party started. Mingle with everyone and then examine the
enviornment. When you're finished examining everything Byakuya will step
inside. Afterwards Teruteru will come in and you'll head off to inspect the
kitchen.
If you speak to Byakuya he will reveal a bit more about his past. When he's
finished, examine the items on the counter. When you've confiscated anything
dangerous you can head back to the party. Once the duties are divided up
the party will go underway.
After the interruption head outside and check up on Chiaki. Inside chat with
everyone and then look under the table to find Byakuya.

/Deadly Life (Investigation)\
===============================================================================
With Byakuya found a scene will play out. Once Monokuma hands you the Monokuma
File #1 you'll have control of Hajime again. Let's begin the investigation.
You've already obtained your first Truth Bullet. These will be needed for the
Class Trial ahead. Truth Bullets are obtained by finding clues throughout the
investigation.
Begin by examining the table Byakuya was found under. Examine Byakuya and
your Monokuma File Truth Bullet will be updated. Next examine the goggles
lying next to him for another Truth Bullet. Examine the knife for a third
Truth Bullet, then the blood for a fourth. Finally examine the glowing tape.
With that finished let's work our way from right to left. Check the air
conditioner for a Truth Bullet then talk to Mikan to grab her Truth Bullet.
Speak with Nagito for a clue on who to speak to next. Then Mahiru to get her
to find out where everyone was standing before and after the blackout. Then
talk to Gundham for another Truth Bullet. Finally examine the duralumin case
on the left for another Truth Bullet. When you're done Nagito will ask you to
help him question the other students.
Ibuki is the nearest directly to your right, speak to her to get her testimony
in the form of an Truth Bullet. Sonia is on your left, get a Truth Bullet from
her about the fire door. Teruteru is in the kitchen, he'll give you one Truth
Bullet from his account and then another when you examine the dishes on the
counter. Grab the third Truth Bullet by examining the clipboard with the
kitchen inventory.
Investigate the storage room and examine the cloth in the basket and the
ironing boards on the left for Truth Bullets. Leave, then attempt to open the
bathroom door and then enter the office.
Examine the breaker at the top of the right wall and the air conditioner for
two more Bullets. Speak to Peko and Kazuichi for his testimony and for her to
leave. Finish up by examining the other duralumin case and then head for
Byakuya's cottage.
But first grab Chiaki's testimony for another Truth Bullet then speak with
Fuyuhiko by the pool. Then head inside cottage. The only suspicious thing here
is the note on the desk. Grab it for another Truth Bullet BUT DO NOT LEAVE YET.
The fifth Hidden Monokuma is above Byakuya's bed, if you miss it, you'll have
to repeat the entire chapter to grab it. Take it and then head out.
If you want, you can head to the beach and chat with Akane and even the
Supermarket to speak to Hiyoko. Chiomi is also by the pool but doesn't provide
anything useful. Speaking with any of them isn't necessary though.
Head inside the lodge and see what Nekomaru is laughing about. Get his
testimony and head back to the crime scene. Speak to Mahiru to see her map of
everyone's positions. Talk to Mikan again for her Examination Report. With
this you should have gathered all the Truth Bullets.
When you've gathered all the Truth Bullets the bell will ring signaling that
the investigation is over. It's time to move on to the Class Trial.
Head to Jabberwock Island and find the mountain with Monokuma's face on it.
Talk with everyone if you feel like it and then when you're ready examine the
mountain. Head inside into the elevator and watch the last scene before the
trial begins.
Before you get the Class Trial proper you have time to prepare. This is the
preparation phase. Here you can set skills, look at the e-Handbook to to look
at your Truth Bullets and purchase skills, change the difficulty setting, or
proceed to the trial.
First open up the e-Handbook and then the Report Card. Select Usami. Here you
can purchase skills with Hope Fragments. There are two types of skills: Ones we
can purchase and ones we can obtain after completing all of a character's Free
Time events. The latter are generally more useful and can make trials easier.
The former skills are mostly repeats from the first game but there are new
skills to help with the new sections of the trial.
If you spent time with with people during Free Time you should have 19 Hope
Fragments which is enough to purchase a good number of skills.
In the Skill Select each skill takes up a certain amount of SP. Your total SP
is determined by your level. Therefore if you want to be able to use more
skills, increase your level. By now you should be around level twenty, or so.
As for what skills to choose, since you're following the guide I would suggest
anything that gives you more time to make the correct choice or recover your
Influence Gauge (Health) to cover any mistakes, or anything to make your shots
more powerful. So, Extraordinary Focus for the Focus Gauge, Fine Sword for the
Rebuttal Showdown, and Charisma to make up for any mistakes during the trickier
parts of the trials.
Note: if you have trouble getting the hang of any aspect of the Class Trial you
can redo the Class Trial from the Main Menu.
Begin the trial when you're ready.

Watch the events of the morning after the Class Trial. A new area has opened
up for exploration. But first speak to Mahiru before making your way out. If
you have the An An Aan (Present #105) in your inventory when you speak to
Mahiru, you'll unlock a CG.
Now head to Central Island and see that Gate 2 is now open.
On the new island we'll be exploring clock-wise, so head right into the
Ruins. Speak to Chiaki who will push you away to explore other areas.
Keep moving right to find the Library. Examine the statues and books for some
information and then speak to Sonia and Peko to learn more about Jabberwock
Island. Afterwards look right and above the camera to find the first Hidden
Monokuma of the chapter. Four more to go.
Leave and keep heading right to the next building - The Pharamcy. Inside speak
to Mikan and examine the shelves of medicine. On the right side of the
building, search the sign that says 'Detergent' for a second Hidden Monokuma.
Three more.
Keep heading right to find the Diner. Inside Fuyuhiko will be eating. Chat
with him and then explore the parking outside. Examine the tunnel to make your
way to Chandler Beach.
Chandler Beach is a 3D enviornment so walk around the house to find Ibuki at
the beach and another scene. Afterwards move towards the left most of the
beach near the water to find a third Monokuma. After collecting that, move to
the beach house on the right.
Examine the refrigerator, locked shower room, bench, and trashcan. Then speak
to Kazuichi. Chiaki will come by and ask you to meet with everyone at the
ruins.
At the ruins speak to everyone for their reactions and then Chiaki to move
the scene along. Examine the door to get some more plot. After everything is
done, Hajime will go back to his cottage and we'll be treated to another
Monokuma Theatre.
After the morning announcement head outside and speak to Gundham, Nekomaru,
Ibuki, and Sonia before making your way to the restaurant. Inside chat with
Akane, Chiaki, and Mahiru then head upstairs.
After the scene you'll have some Free Time. You can spend time with two
character's except for Nagito and Fuyuhiko.
After Free Time is over, once again make your way to Jabberwock Park while
taking the time to speak with Mikan and Kazuichi.
At the island, get everyone's reactions and the examine the arcade cabinet
for your next motive. Hajime will head back to his cottage and we'll see
another Monokuma Theatre.
Once again make your way to the restaurant, stopping by to chat with
Fuyuhiko, Peko, and Gundham outside, and Chiaki and Mikan inside. Watch the
scene then go outside and speak to Hiyoko and Mahiru by the pool. Next go
inside the Old Building, past Monomi, and head inside where Nagito is.
After that scene you'll have another Free Time. Choose two people who you
want to spend time with, with exception to Nagito and Kazuichi.
Afterwards you'll be free to stroll around at night. You can talk to the
others by finding them on the map but the only thing you need to do is
make your way to the Park.
Begin playing Twilight Syndrome Murder Case.
The game is simple. Move with the Directional Pad, press X to interact, and
hold Circle to run.
You are in control of Girl A. Move right and go into room 1-A. Talk to Girl B
then Girl D. When in control of Girl E walk left and enter room 1-B.
After completing the game Hajime will return to his cottage and we'll see
another Monokuma Theatre.
By now you should have the routine down of heading to restaurant and speaking
with anyone on the way there and inside. When you're in the restaurant proper
a scene will play out.
You now have an extra Free Time, however you can only spend time with one
person as you have to see Kazuichi later in the afternoon. Also, several
characters are unavailable at this time: Nagito, Fuyuhikio, Kazuichi, Peko,
Ibuki, Mahiru, Mikan, and Hiyoko.
After Free Time is over, Hajime will automatically make his way to the
Rocketpunch Supermarket. After agreeing to Kazuichi's plan, head over to the
Diner on the second island while speaking with Gundham on the way over.
Insidevchat with Kazuichi for a bit until Fuyuhiko shows up, followed by
Mikan and Ibuki.
Head back inside the Diner and watch Hiyoko run past the window. Then Chiaki,
Akane, Peko, and Sonia will show up. Follow Kazuichi and immediately
afterward an announcement will be made. Attempt to go inside the beach house
only to find the blocked. Head around to the other side and use the other
entrance. Enter to find Mahiru.

/Deadly Life (Investigation)\
==============================================================================
When you have control, start off by examining the body. Your MonoKuma File #2
Truth Bullet will update itself. The only person here who will give us a Truth
Buller is Chiaki, but speak to the others anyway. Examine the trashcan and the
refrigerator in the back for a Truth Bullet. Examine the mask by Mahiru for
another Truth Bullet and Sonia will disappear for a little while. Examine the
bat behind Kazuichi for one more Truth Bullet. Now examine the halfway-opened
closet in the back.
Inside is a walk-in closet. Examine the shelves and the yellow Gummy Bear on
the floor for a Truth Bullet. BEFORE LEAVING MAKE SURE TO GRAB THE HIDDEN
MONOKUMA ABOVE AND TO THE LEFT OF THE MONITOR.
Exit the Closet and examine the Shower Room door.
After getting the Truth Bullet step inside and speak to Akane. The only thing
here worth examining is the window. Examine it for another Truth Bullet.
If you've examined everything of worth in the Beach House your Metal Bat
Truth Bullet will be updated.
Speak to Chiaki again and then Hajime will automatically go to Jabberwock Park
and speak with Nagito. Then speak to Chiaki again for the secret code. Enter
it into the arcade cabinet's title screen.
As Girl A move right and head up to the second floor. Enter the Music Room,
go right and examine the girl on the floor. Examine the broken window and get
the Broken Fish Tank, Killer's Escape Route, and Stolen School Swimsuit Truth
Bullet.
After completing the game you'll obtain the Ending Prize Truth Bullet and
speak to Nagito again. Now head for the Airport and speak to Nagito one more
time. Now speak to Ibuki, Mikan, and Hiyoko. After speaking to Nagito again,
follow Chiaki to Mahiru's cottage. Inside GRAB THE MONOKUMA BEHIND THE TV
and then examine the ophotgraphs on the right and then the envelope to the
left of Chiaki for four Truth Bullets and an update to the Ending Prize
Truth Bullet.
Outside talk to Nagito again and follow him to the Beach House. You can
speak to Gundham by the Diner and Nekomaru at the library if you desire.
Speak to Nagito outside the Beach House and then again inside for the Gummy
Bag Truth Bullet and an upate to the Footprints Truth Bullet. Speak to
Kazuichi, Peko, (and Akane in the shower room) again if you want, but speak
to Sonia for insights into the mask and Mikan for two more Truth Bullets.
When you have all the Truth Bullets the bell will ring and all of you will
be gathered at Monokuma Rock. Speak to others and examine the mountain to
enter the trial room.

/Daily Life\
===========================================================================
As usual, head to the restaurant. Speak to Sonia by the pool and Chiaki
inside and head upstairs.
Examine the new THING at the left side of the restaurant. After those few
scenes, you can now explore the new island, so head to Central Island and
talk to Nidai while you head to Gate 3.

Island Mode [380]
=========================================================================
Island Mode is unlocked after completing the game once. You will have
also unlocked the novel "IF".
Island Mode is essentially an extended Free Time event with a simple
collect and build minigame attached to it, much like the School Mode in
the first game. The game entails selecting which characters clean and
which ones collect materials. You then take the materials and attempt to
make the item(s) that Usami wants you to make. You have fifty in-game
days to complete the tasks, though there is no penalty for not completing
any of the tasks.
There is however a reward, one that you'll need if you want to collect
every character's ending as well as the trophies that come along with
doing so. Tickets will be handed out for each completed task which you can
use to visit different sections of the island with other characters as
opposed to spending time with them and filling in their report cards.
The Island Mode also has a New Game+ Mode that carries over each
character's stats in the minigame. Their stats affect the efficiency of
their cleaning and collecting. You will most likely have to complete
Island Mode four times to get everyone's ending. I recommend spending
the first playthrough filling out everyone's Report Cards and attempting
to make the two items that permanently increase a character's stats.
When you have tickets you'll use them to spend time with others. However,
in order to increase their affection you'll have to take them to places
they'll enjoy and select prompts that they'll agree with. After spending
enough time with them you'll see each of their "Shot Through the Heart"
events which acts identically as a Nonstop Debate except with one person.
There is also an ending prompt but you can simply select any answer until
you get the right one.
Below is a list of each character's best locations to raise their level,
the best dialogue option, the answer to their "Shot Through the Heart"
event, and the answer to their ending prompt.

Magical Miracle Girl Monomi is a minigame where you take control of Monomi
/Usami and defeat the Monobeasts - the guardians of Jabberwock Island, and
waves of random monsters. You do so by drawing rainbows around them and can
stun them by jumping on their heads. It's not very complicated.
You'll occasionally collect items and equipment from the enemies you beat,
and as the stages grow harder the dropped equipment gets better.
The equipment have stats but frankly the game isn't very difficult. Like
Island Mode it's just a matter of persistence.
There are six bosses and three difficulty settings. Specific items only drop
on specific stages or difficulties. Each boss has a small gimmick.
If your having any trouble with a boss remember that you have Usami Mode to
get you out of trouble.
Boss #1
It has three attacks: A charge attack, long range beam, and a circle attack
if you get too close. All are indicated by it turning red and are simple
enough to dodge. Jump on it and circle attack as quick as possible. You
will have time to circle around it when it does its circle attack.
Boss #2
Throws projectiles and spins in a circle that can be avoided by jumping
over. When it stands its weak point changes from its center to its rear.
If you have trouble finding its weak point, look at its shadow.
Boss #3
Has a tornado attack that will deal a good amount of damage if it
connects. Shoots fire at short range and swoops down in circles forcing
you to jump over. Don't bother chasing after it when it's airborne, draw
circles nearby and wait for the boss to run into them.
Boss #4
Has a ranged boomerang attack that will circle around the stage. This
one retreats more than the others, often getting its back at the edge
of the stage leaving you unable to circle attack it. Either lure it
out or jump on its head if it ever gets in that position. Otherwise
the fight is simple enough.
Boss #5
It spins as it chases you and and smacks the ground in an Area of Effect
attack that will you stun you if it hits. Use the time between its AOE
ground attacks to circle attack it. Or go into Usami mode and circle it
until it's dead.
Boss #6
Has an Area of Effect star attack and a chase attack. If it's in its chase
attack, you can lead it while using the circle attack. The easiest strategy
to take down the boss is to use Usami Mode and circle attack it as much as
possible in the beginning.
Below is a list of every item you can collect in the mode as well as their
location.

Virtual Pets are managed through the e-Handbook. There are six total pets
that you can create, and they all evolve from a specific pattern and require
specific amounts of Hope and Despair.
Pets grow through the amounts of steps you take and will fill their rooms
with droppings every hundred steps or so, so you'll have to micromanage them.
The four evolutionary step are: Eggs, which hatch in about 100 steps;
Chibimi, who will evolve in about 1000 steps and poop roughly every 100
steps; Cocoons, which will evolve around 100 steps; and the final evolution
which will leave and lay another egg in a few thousands steps.
In order to raise a pet's Hope level you have to give them gifts. The
specific gift does not matter so feel free to give them any excess gifts
or purchase Mineral Waters from the Vending Machine. Raising the Despair
level is easy enough, simply don't clean up after them. However, it is
important not to let the Despair level max out as the pets will die.
An important note: Giving pets gifts will lower their Despair levels.
Therefore it is best to give pets gifts to raise their Hope levels first
and then raise their Despair levels to get the specific evolution you want.
