v 0.30
Last updated: 11th July 2004

Introduction

Welcome to the world of Psychosis, a shooter on the TurboGraf'x 16. I
personally, am addicted to this game, and can't stop playing it. For those of
you with Nokia phones, it's a bit like that Space-Shooter game on it, although
in glorious colour, and more annoying sound effects. :)

A brief word about myself, I'm PIW, and I hope to make many more FAQs, as I
find them easier on the eye. Check out some of the rest of my work (although
I'm not very happy with any of my Smackdown! FAQs anymore). Anyway, happy
reading!

N.B All enemies herein are referred to merely as 'enemies', for two reasons.
One, I lost the manual and can't remember most of the names. Two, it should
save some confusion. I'll put in any special notes that are needed as and when
they occur. Also, it's helpful to read Cause 1, as it sets out the Guide
basics, which are helpful to know if you just want to look up a specific part.

Get help from a turtle

Shoot and kill the two enemies which try to kill a worm/caterpillar, right at
the start of 1st Cause, but don't kill the worm (/caterpillar) itself. At the
end of the boss of 1st Cause, you should see butterflies. Get to 4th Cause
without dying, and a giant turtle will act as your shield.

Guide

1st Cause

The first thing you'll notice is that you're in a ship. You'll be in this ship
for the whole game, so get used to it! You only have one form of attack,
although you can get pick-ups along the way, which help with defence. You have
3 lives (which roughly translates into 1 hit per life, although sometimes you
manage 2 hits per life) and 3 continues. When you lose 3 lives, you lose one
continue. All very simple. Oh, and when you lose a life, you go back to the
beginning of the Cause, unless you get to a certain point, in which case you
start at that point. But basically, dying makes you go back.

Right, so in Cause 1, you're introduced into the Game's system, which, as I've
said, is shoot enemies before they shoot you. First of all, there's complete
air, but a platform is on the bottom. Don't fly into it. There's an enemy on
the platform, and I'd highly recommend killing him, as he shoots multiple balls
of energy. I don't know the actual name for these, but I shall refer to them as
'balls of energy' throughout. Anyway, he shoots lots of them until you kill
him, it's best to dispatch of him straight away, and, indeed, all of those
enemies. Then some enemies come flying in from the right. Try to kill these
if possible, but each one only releases one energy-ball, and they're fairly
easy to dodge. Then you get some more, either kill or dodge these, but stay
fairly low. On the platform, a worm, chased by two enemies will appear from
the left, and another multiple-ball-shooter from the right. Try and kill
everything here, except the worm, as they can all cause lots of damage. Then
you'll get a wave of Bumble-Bee looking ships flying. They'll go in a circular
formation, so watch out for it. If you kill the blue one (also the last one)
he'll drop a power-up. It's random as to what you get, but it tends to be two
shields in front of your ship which move round if you go right and come back
to the front if you go left. These shields block both enemies and enemy shots,
so learn quickly how to manoeuvre them.

You'll now get another Bumble-Bee swarm of enemies, so again, be on the
watch-out, but there's another power-up to be had. Then you'll start to get
into some platforms, so make sure you dodge them. More enemies, and a little
slug which curls itself up and is followed by loads of similar things which
kill you. A purple rock juts out, which will also kill you, so be careful. To
kill the rings, avoid it, and shoot the orange/red one in the middle. After a
while it'll disappear anyway, but you've got to watch out for more purple
rocks, as well as enemies dotted about. After the first one leaves, you get
another ring, and the process begins again, although the second one is more
likely to trap you in itself, so watch out! After this, you get a sort of
respite, with about five seconds with only one or two enemies, then a
giant-apple-looking thing, which shoots out loads of bees. If you've killed
the enemy at the bottom of the screen with your shields, then good, because
it'll make your job a lot easier. Otherwise, go and kill him now, or if you
have no shields, be prepared to dodge his shots. Kill as many bee-enemies as
possible, especially the ones coming in a straight line, and shoot at the
apple-thing as well.

If you can't kill it, fly past it when the time comes, and you get to a sort-of
cloud area. The best policy here is to stay near the top of the screen: shoot
and avoid. Don't risk going down and getting killed by shots from
ground-enemies just for some kills. Instead, stay near the top and dodge
anything that comes your way. You'll get some more bee things, then your
screen will go purple. Don't adjust your TV! (or computer screen). You get
lots of flame things flying around, then the boss, a giant eye thing.

1st Cause Boss

First of all, he shoots fire curls at you, which will kill you (a shield would
be handy). He flies towards you as well, making it difficult to dodge him. If
you need space to breathe, and can't cope under pressure, fly under/over him
and go past him. When he comes back, do the same, and recommence shooting.
After a lot of shots, he's gone.
