- Completed FAQ/Walkthrough and uploaded to GameFAQs database.

2. Introduction to ---/------------------------------------------------------
Gunboat --------------\ You've probably never heard of this game ... --------
-----------------------\-----------------------------------------------------
This introduction is taken in its entirely from the official Gunboat
instruction manual!
---
They're still out there, from the jungles of Vietnam to the waterways of
South America. Only your Navy River Patrol Boat (PBR) has the agility and
firepower to free our P.O.W.s from renegade Viet Cong. Battle the forces of
the Colombian drug cartel. And root out the fanatic rebel army of a deposed
Panamanian dictator. First you'll train as a sharpshooting machine gunner, a
deadly artillery expert, and a crackerjack navigator able to steer through
the twists and turns of riverine warfare. Then get your orders, choose your
arsenal, and shove off for combat. You think it's hot in the jungle? Just
wait!
-----------------------/-----------------------------------------------------
3. Controls ----------/------------------------------------------------------
----------------------\ What do all the buttons do?! ------------------------

There are four modes. One is REPORT FOR DUTY, which gets its own section.
The other three are: GUNNERY PRACTICE, GRENADE PRACTICE, or PILOT PRACTICE.
****************
GUNNERY PRACTICE

shown here:

****************
GRENADE PRACTICE
****************
You're the Midship (centre) Gunner launching M129 grenades at enemy targets.
Use the direction key (Up, Down, Left, or Right) to aim and press Button II
to fire. This may be similar to GUNNERY PRACTICE, but the skill required is
greatly different.
**************
PILOT PRACTICE
**************
You're at the helm practicing your navigation skills as you maneuver down a
twisting river course. Use the direction key as shown in the Controls
section to control your PBR. When you Throttle Forward or Back, the RPM

-----------------------/-----------------------------------------------------
6. What's on Screen --/------------------------------------------------------
----------------------\ You have to know what everything is, correct? -------
-----------------------\-----------------------------------------------------
I am having difficulty drawing this out, so here is the best description I
can do. Apologies!
MESSAGE AREA: At the very top of the screen, where there are words. This
sends you information on target IDs, damage inflicted, damage received, and
casualties.
DIRECTION INDICATOR: Near the middle of the screen, there are dots, and a
small triangle/arrow. When going forward, the boat travels left or right in
the same direction as the red dial. In reverse, the boat travels in the
opposite direction of the dial.
FORWARD/REVERSE ARROWS: To the left of the direction indicator. The ywllow
arrows. An arrow will light up in the direction you are heading.
CLOCK: Bottom left. Displays the time of day during your mission.
RPM Gauges: The two "RPM" circles. These measure power output to both
engines. Maximum speed (full throttle) is indicated by the neels in the far
right position. Straight up is half-throttle, and far-left is slowest.
COMPASS: Bottom right. This charts your course. North is 0 degrees, east is
90 degrees, south is 180 degrees, and west is 270 degrees.
-----------------------/-----------------------------------------------------
7. Combat Operations -/------------------------------------------------------
----------------------\ How to engage warfare! Interesting stuff, sort of. -
-----------------------\-----------------------------------------------------
****************************
Choosing Your Battle Station
****************************
You will begin each mission under fire in the Pilot's Station. To go from
the Pilot's Station to one of the Gunnery Stations, set TurboSwitch I as
shown below to select a station and press Button I.
Use this same procedure to move from one Gunnery Station to another. To go
from a Gunnery Station back to the Pilot's Station, press Button I without
moving the TurboSwitch.
********************
Maneuvering Your PBR
********************
You control the boat from the Pilot's Station. Use the direction key just as
you do in PILOT PRACTICE. Watch the gauges for direction and speed.
When you spot a possible target, centre it in front of the boat to mke sure
it's an enemy. A target ID will appear in the Message Area.
*******************************
Firing from the Pilot's Station
*******************************
You can order your Bow Gunner to shoot without going to his battle station.
Set TurboSwitch II for the type of fire you want, then press Button II to
open fire. He is not as accurate as he would be if you were using the
Gunnery Station.
*****************************
Firing from a Gunnery Station
*****************************
Move to the station with the clearest shot at a target and best weapon to
destroy it. Then aim, select your type of fire, and shoot just as you would
in GUNNERY PRACTICE.
*******************
Completing a Mision
*******************
At the end of a mission, you will return to the bridge of your LST. The
Admiral will evaluate your performance and give you a summary of your career.
You will then go back to the main menu. Now fire up for your next mission!
-----------------------/-----------------------------------------------------

10. Gunnery Positions /------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------\-----------------------------------------------------
The three Gunnery Positions are: Bow Gunner, Midship Gunner, and Stern

**********
Bow Gunner

The front gun turret officers the best view on the PBR. It's the only
station equipped with two machine guns and it rotates 270 degrees so you can
fire on just about anything.
**************
Midship Gunner
**************
Your choice of a grenade launcher or machine gun rotates 270 degrees to cover
the sides and rear of the boat.
************
Stern Gunner
************
You're located in back, low and close to the water, and rotate 270 degrees to
cover the sides and rear of the boat. You can choose a machine gun or mortar
launcher.

11. Tips from the ----/------------------------------------------------------
Manual ---------------\ NEC has some pretty neat tips for you, my friend! ---
-----------------------\-----------------------------------------------------
Here are the tips!
Full-Throttle is the way to go if you're trying to get somewhere or get out
of trouble fast. Otherwise, this makes a lot of noise and makes you easy to
spot. Go slow, half throttle or less, to sneak up on a target.
When you approach a target head-on, only your Bow Gunner will have clear aim.
Try to angle in to give the other guys a shot!
It's easier to shoot when the boat is stopped or moving slowly.
Firing in shorts bursts gives you time between bursts to see if you're
hitting the target.
It's important to look at the map often to keep track of your direction.
It's easy to get lost when going to a target.
