I.     INTRODUCTION AND REVISION HISTORY

Top Gear sort of came out of the blue for racing fans.  Released in 1992 for
the Super Nintendo, people were caught off guard by this game.  Not only did
it has some indepth gaming, but it was fun!  You just didnt have to hold the
aceleration and win, you needed to put some strategy into it.  Are you going
to pass him on the outside or inside?  What happens if he trys to block you?

This was the game that got me into racing, so I felt it was my responsibility
to create the first FAQ on GameFAQs for it.  I also was a little bored too,
and I have been projectless (and plan on being projectless) for awhile, so I
decided to write this up.

II.     BEGINNING OPTIONS

When you begin the game, you start with this menu:

--------------------------
   1    P L A Y E R
S K I L L   P L A Y E R
     C O U N T R Y
   S P E E D   K P H
   P L A Y   G A M E
--------------------------

When you select one player, you have the choice of selection 1 or 2 players.
Once you decide that, hit A and you will move into a new screen.  Select your
name, and hit end.  You will come into a new screen, the Controller Screen, and
the game allows you to select from 4 different types of set ups.

Select skill player, and you have a choice of 3 settings.  Amateur,
Professional, and Championship.  Basically, its easy, medium, and hard.  I
suggest you do amateur first, and then move up as  you beat each difficulty.
Doing that will give you a good feel of the game as well as the tracks,
and it wont be as hard when you switch to a higher difficulty.

Select country, and you have a choice on what country you want to represent
when you race.  Heres a list: (I picked USA, by the way)

USA
South America
Japan
Germany
Scandindavia
France
Italy
UK

On the final selection, you can select what speed you want.  KPH or MPH.

III.    TRACKS

===============
=United States=
===============
Las Vegas - 0.85 km

Fairly simple.  There isnt a tough turn in the whole track, so blast away a
nitro per lap.  If you have more then 3 laps, save your nitros until the final
3.  You can easily make up missed ground that way.  Your biggest challenge
is dodging the slower cars.  They are a pain, especially when you are trying
to win or take the lead.

Las Angeles -

Another easy one.  The turns are a bit longer, but you shouldnt be afraid
to nitro on them.  Theres a long straight-a-way towards the end which is great
to catch 1st.  Again, your biggest challenge is the slower cars, and its even
worse with so many turns.  Get ready to be doging them on those long turns,
and its extremely tough when you have a nitro on.

New York - 2.46 km

This is a fast track.  For the most part, it has wide roads, perfect for
passing.  Theres one or two parts where it gets narrowed, and some nice
driving skills are required to pass cars.  Use your nitros on that huge
straight-a-way right before the finish line.  Nitro it all 3 times, and I
will gurantee you that you win, even if you run into a bunch of other
cars to slow you down.  Heh, gotta like Kemco for trying out that night
effect.  I believe its the first game that used lights like this.

San Francisco - 2.06 km

6 laps.  Watch out for the warning signs (I guess you could call them that)
as they slow you down big time if you hit them.  Other then that, its a
fairly easy track.  The 6 laps are sort of repetitive, since eventually it
will be you and the computer (or another friend) at the end.  Save nitros
until the last 2 laps.  If you are using the white car, you wont need to
pit.  The others will need to pit, but for a different time.  Check the
cars stats to find which one has the highest fuel consumption.

========
=Brazil=
========
Rio - 2.46 km

6 laps, lots of turns.  nuff said.  This isnt a fun race, and its real long.
Lots of patience is needed, and I doubt you will get 1st, since its nearly
impossible to go through the whole thing without messing upa turn, especially
with your nitros on.  My suggestion: go for 2nd.   I doubt you can do any
better, and its best that you are in 2nd, a couple of point behind instead
of 20th, after you tried to go throughout the whole race without pitting,
or something to that extent.  Long race though.

Machu Piccuh - 1.06 km

Another turnig race.  Basically, the track is all one turn.  There is almost
no straight-a-aways, but its fairly easy to win.  Although its full of turns, they
aren¹t very tough to take, and only a few times I had to brake to complete
one.  Nitros are dangerous though, because slower cars come quick, and you will
most likely nail them as you make your turn, or the turning signs after you
tried to move out of the way.  Pretty easy though.  Shouldn¹t have to much
trouble.

Chichen Izra -

Easiest one since the first two tracks.  Yawn.  You might need to pit, but
you should be using the white car, and if you are, you won¹t need to.  You
should end with plenty fuel left.  Save nitros until the last 2 laps, and
blow away the competition.  Easy 20 points.

Rain Forest - 2.63 km

Long track.  Lots of turns and those damn save the tree signs stick out.
WATCH OUT!  Other then that, just pay attention and you shouldn¹t have too
much trouble.  Fairly easy.

=======
=Japan=
=======
Tokyo - 1.52 miles

Lots of turns, and 7 laps.  The turns are on narrow roads, and the straight-
a-ways are huge in width.  Its very easy to pass, but its also easy to screw
up too.  The pit stop entrance is in a crappy place, and its really easy
to accidently go in the pits early.  Again, save nitros, and stay in contention
for most of the race.  If you are in 5th or lower on the 6th lap, you are in
pretty good shape, and a nitro or two will get you in first.

Hiroshima - 1.56 miles

Extremely easy.  5 laps of just about all straight-a-aways, and the only
tough part is the dip just before the end of the lap.  It isnt a normal
tip however, its one of the hardest turns in the same.  Just remember to
brake if you get too close to the kemco signs.  Also, save your nitros,
you never know when you will need them.

Yokohama - 1.40 miles

This is a very quick race.  Pay attention or you will find yourself in the
high ranks though as the end.  Nitro the last 2 laps like crazy.  Be careful.
One mistake can lead to a 2nd or 3rd place finish at the end.  Other then that,
just race like normal.  Not too tough, but you need to be careful on what
rank you finish on.  I believe 4th and higher wont let you go to the next
race, and redoing all the races in the country is a pain in the ass.

Kyoto - 1.71 miles

7 laps.  Fairly long race, which seems to keep going and going.  Watch out
on the turn to the pit stop.  Its almost as hard as the turn in Hiroshima,
so watch out.  You will most likely nail the pit signs a couple of times.
This is by far the toughest race Ive done, only getting a 5th place, but
I h ad a huge lead in the standings so I still passed. =) yay!

=========
=Germany=
=========
Munich - 1.52 miles

7 laps.  This one is tough because you are forced to pit, at least once.  Pit
early no matter what.  Do it with 3 or 4 laps left, because if you wait until
you need it, you won¹t have enough laps to catch up.  Believe me, it just
happened to me.  Other then that, its an easy course.  Heads up on that long
left turn.  It just keeps going and going.  Theres a lot of left turn,
right turn, then left turn in this.  Not a lot of straight track.

Cologne - 1.64 miles

3 laps.  Lots of turns.  Watch out.  Use your nitros on that last part to get
by 1st.  This one is tough, I ran into the signs at least 5 times per lap, so
I really dont have any tips.  Brake a lot and I think you should be fine, and
get a top 3 position.

Black Forest - 1.60 miles

You are going to need to pit.  Do it early, so you dont have to make up a lot
of time in a couple of laps.  This is a really easy course, so you shouldnt
have too much trouble.  Also, the pit stop is very easy to miss.  Its right
on a hill, and even when you are looking for it, it goes by fast.  Try to
brake when it says pits on your screen.  You wouldnt want to miss it, and
run out of gas. =)

Frankfurt - 1.32 miles

8 laps.  Yawn.  Easy as heck.  The left turn before the pit stop is the
hardest one of the track.  Just brake like a madman and take it as ugly
as you want.  Its better then nailing the sign, and then the light poles.
Pit early, and save nitros for the last 2 laps.  Easy victory.

==============
=Scandindavia=
==============
Stockholm - 2.22 km

The first half of the track is turns.  You either are turning left or right
and they are pretty sharp.  Make sure you brake enough.  Dont worry about
not making up ground on that section of the track.  Once you reach the
straight-a-way, nitro across and make up lost ground.  Easy win.

Copenhagen - 2.46 km

Fairly easy.  3 laps, so watch out.  Race finishes quick.  Theres only one
tough turn, and its a long left with a quick right, which is tough to hit,
even with braking.  That might slow you up, but nitro after it and you should
make up any missed ground.  That is probably your toughest competition you
have, since it can decide 1st and 2nd.

Helsinki - 2.22 km

Extremely easy.  The square turns are a lot easier then they look.  Save your
nitros until the last lap, and blow everyone away.  Theres nothing hard about
this so I dont have much to say.  =)

Oslo - 2.34 km

Wow.  3 laps of non-stop action.  Easier then the last, I can¹t comment much
on this one.  What was Kemco thinking, putting all the easy courses in one
country.  Yawn.  At least they arent 6 laps.  Nitro on the staight-a-ways,
on the final lap.  Easy win. =)  Easy country. =)

========
=France=
========
Paris - 2.51 km

Yikes.  Lots of turns, which are pretty tough.  Try to take them without
braking, or you will get so far behind that you will have to nitro on turns,
and that isnt a good combination.  Reasonably tough, but its not necessary to
have a 1st place finish.

Nice - 2.05

7 laps.  Pit in with 3 to go and just drive consistantly to the top 5, and nitro
yourself into the lead.  Not too difficult, but the pit stop does come awfully
quick, so make sure you are paying attention.  There is no real hard turn,
so make sure you are always in the lead and you shouldnt have too much trouble.
Its a normal long race.  Nothing too hard, just need to pay attention.

Bordeaux - 2.22 km

WATCH OUT FOR THE WINE SIGNS!!  They stick out, and they can completely stop
you, causing the whole race for you.  Be careful, and having a top 5 finish
is nothing to be mad with.  Along as you are  in the top 3 in the standings,
you can still make the points up on a later race.  This has to be one of the
hardest racest, so you may lose a couple of times.  Its all about luck, so
dont get too frustrated.  Its a pain in the ass, but the rest arent too hard.

Monaco - 1.79 miles

Nothing like the previous race, but pretty tough.  For the most part, you will
be taking some dreadful turns.  Add the fact that they are on narrow roads
and you have yourself in a situation.  Try not to worry about it, and nitro
through the long straight-a-way on the 2nd half of the track.  You might
need to make up some ground, after your performace in Bordeaux. =)  A
third place finish on amateur will win it for you.

=======
=Italy=
=======
Pisa - 1.79 miles

Wow.  Doesnt get much easier then this.  Its a nice relief though, after the
crap you took in France.  Nitro each time you hit that last leg of the track,
and you should have a relaxing and easy win.  Nothing much to say, but some
of the turns are awfully long, but you shouldnt need to brake on any of them.

Rome - 1.64 miles

Lots of laps, 7, but its so dang easy, you could do it with one hand tied behind
your back.  Just drive along until the final lap, and nitro to victory.  Make
sure you do pit, at about the 3 lap half way mark.  Other then that, you dont
have to worry about anything.  Just dont drive into other cars ahead of you,
because that can cause a lost of position if done too many times.

Sicily - 1.67 miles

Yawn.  Again, not much.  3 laps that you can only compare to the first few
tracks.  There isnt a real hard turn, and theres a huge straight-a-way to nitro
across.  Just make sure you do the little things right, and bam!  Victory, and
an easy 20 points.  On the final lap, when day changes into night, it kind of
gets hard to get used to the night, but it shouldnt affect you much.

Florence - 1.60 miles

Wow.  Hmmm, some of these tracks shouldve gone to France.  So easy.  Theres
nothing hard about this track.  Do everything Ive told you throughout the
FAQ.  The easiest win in the game, besides the first track.  The change from
dark to light is a pain, but nothing that should make this track any harder
then it is.  UK, here I come!

================
=United Kingdom=
================
London - 1.64 miles

8 laps of racing fun.  5 straight easy tracks...hmmm...interesting.  Anyway,
you will have ot pit at least once, and if you have a gas hungry car, like the
red one, you are in for a treat.  Course is fairly easy, nothing to worry about.
The straight-a-ways are wide, and the turns are narrow, so keep note of that.
You wont even need to nitro to have a pretty good lead.  Anyway, off to the
next track.  Maybe it might be a little challenging...

Sheffield - 1.44 miles

Wow. 6 straight.  The toughest turn on the race is that last turn before the
straight-a-way into the finish.  Brake hard, and nitro as soon as you get out
to reach the first place car, since he will most likely pass you on that turn.
Other then that, another easy one.  Not much to say..

Loch Ness - 1.64 miles

Quick race, and is rather tough.  I doubt you wont get 1st, but you shouldnt
reach first until the last lap, because its really hard to pull off nitros.
Theres not really a tough turn, but most require some braking, which makes
pulling nitros off hard.  Still, you should have 40 pts already, so a top
5 finish shouldnt hurt you.

Stonehenge - 1.56 miles

Wow.  Top Gear finishes off with a bang...not.  One of the easiest courses
in the game.  Theres not even a turn thats longer then 2 seconds.  Amazing,
considering all the crap you had to go through in France.  Anyway, you know
the drill.  Nitro on the straight-a-ways and watch out for cars ahead of you.
Just about as easy as the first race in Las Vegas.

V.      FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What car is best?
A: The white car.  High traction, low fuel consumption.  Who cares about speed?

Q: Whats the toughest country?
A: France, definately.

Q: Hardest track?
A: Bordeaux

Q: When should I use my nitros?
A: Depends on how many laps.  On a 3 lap race, use one on lap 2, and use the
  others on the final lap.  On a 6 - 8 lap course, save them for the last 2
  laps, again.  If you are pretty far from first place, you might want to use
  2 of them on the 2nd to last lap, and one on the final lap.  Thats a
  judgement call.

Q: Any tips on pitting?
A: Press up to get fuel faster.  And pit with plently of laps to catch the lead
  again.  Dont pit on the 2nd to the last lap... you might not have enough
  time to catch up to 1st.

Q: Im playing 1-player, and the computer on the bottom screen always catches up
  to me.  Is there a handicap?
A: Im pretty sure there is.  If you are in 1st, and hes in 20th, he will be
  caught up by the end of the lap.  I dont think you have a handicap on him
  however.  He stays around where you are most of the time.
