01.)                    INTRODUCTION                                 G0100
===============================================================================

Welcome to 'The Great Waldo Search' for the SNES, a puzzle game released in
1993 by THQ. This is almost the same game as on the NES and Genesis consoles.

Suggestions, comments or errors - email me about it. Enjoy!

===============================================================================
02.)                    BASICS                                       G0200
===============================================================================

After inserting the gamepack and switching on the SNES, press START to begin
the game. Choose either Normal level, Expert level or Super Waldo Challenge.
Normal is for beginners, Expert has the objects better hidden away and Super
Waldo Challenge is for finding a specific Waldo out of a lot of them.

Controls:
`````````
Controller 1:
  START             -    Pause/Unpause
  SELECT + START    -    Reset
  A/B               -    Select items on screen.
  X/Y               -    Faster magnifying speed.
  D-Pad             -    Move the magnifying glass around.
Controller 2: (for parents to help out)
  A                 -    Move to screen with Waldo.
  B                 -    Turn off the timer.
Basics:
```````

One needs to find certain items on the screen to complete a level. These items
include:

Scrolls              -    Required to complete the level.

Waldo                -    Required to complete the level.

Clocks               -    Time and point bonus.

Point banners        -    Point bonus.

Woof (dog)           -    Bonus mini-game (see below).

After picking up the two main items, the icons at the bottom of the screen
will change. Waldo, for example, will smile after being found, and the scroll
unroll. Waldo will also start wearing a shoe in the last stage of the game.

Woof:
`````
When you have found Woof in a stage, the game is changed to a side-scrolling
magic carpet ride. In this mini-game one should try and collect as many of the
bones as you can by moving the carpet up and down as it flies along. You can
also move forwards and backwards as required. Each bone is worth 150 points.
When this mini-game is completed you are returned to the stage you were
playing, exactly as you left it.
Time:
````

Each stage is timed. You must complete it before the time runs out. By picking
up clocks the timer is extended. On Expert you can only freeze time for a
certain amount instead. After losing a life, the stage will have some extra
time to help you complete it this time around.

On Expert mode there are also some special clocks to freeze the timer for
finding a bonus item. In this case, whitebeard will show you a scroll with a
certain item that can be found on the current screen, e.g. "Man with three
legs". The time will freeze, and you may find this bonus item before it
restarts the main game. You cannot move around the stage as this is going on,
but you won't have to either.

Making wrong selections instead of clicking on icons (e.g. Waldo, clock)
results in time to be taken off from the clock. The time left after completing
the level adds to your total score, including left over clocks.

Score:
``````
Finding banners with points on them adds to the total score. Finding Waldo or
the scroll is worth 1,000 points each. The Woof mini-game can yield up to
3,750, meaning the each bone is worth collecting 150 points. The time and
clocks left at the end of a stage complete the scoring.
Tips:
`````

Find and collect clocks first, they make it much easier to search the rest of
the area.

Waldo, Woof and the scroll have set locations where they are hidden. If you
have previously played the game, try looking in the location it was found last
time before you do anything else. Of course if you see them on the way then the
situation has changed.

The Woof mini-game is very easy, gives you lots of points, doesn't take any
time away from the main game and also gives you a few seconds to search the
screen while the points are being added. If you aren't playing for points,
ignore Woof.

Similarly, the extra clocks on Expert mode also enable you to search the area
for other items, apart from the bonus point one.

Finally, don't randomly select items on screen, as they result in a time
penalty. Only click when you are sure the magnifying glass is pointing at
something important.

Versions:
`````````
The game was also released on the NES and Genesis. They should be nearly
identical and using this guide for them is most likely not a problem. I haven't
tested this fully yet though.
===============================================================================
03.)                    WHERE'S WALDO?                               G0300
===============================================================================
It seems that Waldo's good friend, the wizard Whitebeard has lost five magic
scrolls in the Realms of Enchantment. He asks Waldo if can locate the scrolls
for him before it's too late!
Well, our globetrotting hero can't resist a challenge, so he takes his trusty
canine companion Woof along on their new adventure! Now it's up to YOU to spot
Waldo and the missing scrolls as well as bonus points and much more! So keep a
sharp lookout for fun in this colorful fantasy for the whole family!
Normal and Expert modes feature four areas to play. You can pick them in any
order.
Land of the Gargantuas:
```````````````````````

A medieval setting, giants attacking a fortress of human knights, or
barbarians would be a more accurate description.

Water Monks vs. Fire Druids:
````````````````````````````
As the name suggests, a horde of Water Monks are battling praying Fire Druids,
each using their magic element to attack. Waldo sure likes to blend into the
red sea of Fire Druids.
Kingdom of the Carpet Flyers:
`````````````````````````````

An Arabian rooftop area with lots of people standing around, looking out of
windows or even flying around on their magic carpets.

The Enchanted Underground:
``````````````````````````
A bunch of guys are running scared from fire-spewing dragons. These are some
underground caves.
Super Waldo Challenge:
``````````````````````

After finishing a normal or expert stage the game will return to the selection
screen for another challenge. After all four stages have been completed, the
next one will be the Super Waldo Challenge.

In this mode one is asked to find the Waldo out of many Waldo's, that is
missing a shoe. When you have found this guy, select the red and white striped
sock. There is also a scroll required to finish the game and you don't get any
clocks to extend time but instead start out with more than in the previous
stages.

                                  Hooray!

            You have returned Wizard Whitebeard's five scrolls.
