[I - The Introduction]

Welcome to Sandsplash's Tenchi Muyo strategy guide! This game is not
only an RPG but also relies on strategy. There's more than one way to
win each battle, but I'll make them very easy for you. I will assume
you know what the commands are and what everything on the screen is
because you have the instruction manual, don't you? Well, if you don't
that's too bad because that's not part of strategy, now is it.

Like all Role-Playing Games, Tenchi Muyo requires that a character
participates in order to gain some experience. Unlike most RPGs,
though, the kills and experience is not evenly distributed among the
fighters. You get experience based on how many kills you get each. If a
member of your party dies, there is no way to revive him, her or it,
but after a battle, all characters are restored to full health.

A few things that are pretty simple to learn for moves are that the
first number places the range of the attack and the second places the
power cost of the attack. You can have up to 8 levels of power,
receiving two each turn. A yellow number indicates an attack. A green
number indicates a skill that enhances a statistic of one or all of
your characters within the field or heals hit points. A curved arrow
indicates an attack that can move through obstacles. A straight arrow
to the right indicates an attack that cannot move through obstacles. A
down arrow indicates an attack that places the range in front of your
character in a rectangle. 'All' indicates that the move will effect the
characters within the square.

At level three, Morph is learned by most characters. Along with
Morph comes a powered up attack and an automatic level up. The boosted
stats disappear after the battle or if you revert to your normal self.
The new technique can only be used with all eight power bubbles full.
More techniques are learned at levels five, seven and eight. So, when
do the effects of Morph wear off? When you're out of power bubbles!
The characters that do not learn Morph are Yukinojou and Shitsumi.

If there is incorrect statistics I stated, please tell me. If there
are incorrect translations, don't tell me because they're not my
mistakes.

Note: Writing this document, I started a game out by raising all my
characters' levels to eight during the first platform to list down
each of the moves and get a pretty good outline of the story. I
restarted the game and played normally to see if my FAQ was good. The
first time I played the game, I had no idea about Morphing, so this
game is just easier when you have to fight the game's bosses. I did not
include techniques on how to defeat each field of play but just how to
defeat the major battles. If there are undescribed battles that are
difficult for you, just mail me and I'd be glad to include it in my
next update, which would be soon after receiving your mail.

Note: Before mailing me saying that I forgot those barrel things, I did
not forget them. I just excluded them for now. Since they are not such
important parts of the game (just about as important as Yukinojoe),
I'll add them on later.

[II - The Characters]

Since I cannot read Japanese, I had to find a ROM and a translating
patch to get the names after beating the game the first time around. It
took me a couple days to finish it, and it should take you even shorter
with my help! The moves that can only be used in Morph are placed in
brackets.

Tenchi - Tenchi is the main character of the game. He carries a sword
and has a pretty decent walking range. His attacks carry up to a max of
three spaces. Most of his attacks are at a range of one, but are very
powerful.

Aeka - Aeka is Sasami's sister. She and Ryoko consistently show an
apprehension toward each other and engage in fights over Tenchi.

Ryoko - Ryoko is a tough girl. She apparently likes Tenchi and is rude.
She gets kidnapped until the end battles of the game. In my opinion,
she's the best starter overall since she can fly over and land on some
obstacles.

Mihoshi - I assume that she's a patrol officer. She uses a gun to
attack and besides that, she's pretty weak. Her range is usually at
three.

|   7   | [Bingo Launcher]
|   8   | [Brave Pal]

Ryo Oh Ki - A cat or rabbit or something. This creature has the largest
moving range. She is one of the best characters to use on the second
and third platforms of the game.

| Stat |  L1  |  L2  |  L3  |  L4  |  L5  |  L6  |  L7  |  L8  |

|   7   | [Bouncing Kitty]
|   8   | [Ryo-Oh-Ki]

Sasami - Sasami is left out from the first platform of the game because
Shitsumi kidnapped her. She starts out at level four if you decide to
rescue her from the Prison. If you rescue her at the Control Room, she
starts at level three. I placed her stats starting at level four since
it's the best way to play the game.

Katsuhito - Tenchi's grandfather. He does pretty much judo or karate
stuff. A great character to use, but no range whatsoever.

scientist. Whe went to school with Kusumi.

Yukinojoe - Yukinojoe is a small robot with long range attacks, but the
shortest moving range you can get. Only two other characters get this
same one-space range.

Shitsumi - One of Kusumi's minions, her defeat at the hands of Ryoko
renders her useless to Kusumi and she joins the good guys near the end
of the game with at a measly level one.

[III - The Walkthrough]

The game starts out with everyone at home. Sasami and Ryo Oh Ki
leave. Four monsters come in. To fight them, have everyone move forward
and attack whatever monster is in front of him or her except for Aeka.
Let Aeka attack Tenchi's monster, too. The strongest characters you
have right now are Aeka and Tenchi, so after killing that one monster,
have Aeka kill another monster. She should level up. The rest of the
battle is pretty straight forward.

After the battle, you'll discover that Shitsumi kidnapped Sasami.
She will challenge you to a fight with more monsters, but if you manage
to attack her, she'll leave. Now you'll find yourself on the map. Go to
the Carrot Field first. Here, save Ryo Oh Ki. This isn't the time for
you to attempt to raise your characters' level evenly since you're
still collecting others into your party. Use Tenchi and Aeka where the
other two are having trouble. Ryo Oh Ki will now join your party. Next,
head to Mihoshi's Shuttle.

Here, Mihoshi will head off to get her gun, but it's not there. A
few monsters will surround her and you will head into a long battle.
You can leave Ryo Oh Ki out if you want because she won't be able to do
much. I suggest you leave her in because she'll draw attention away
from the other characters. Also, you can let her finish off a weakened
monster while you let your other characters go ahead. After the battle,
Mihoshi will be saved. Head to Hot Springs to save Katsuhito.

This battle shouldn't be hard. Just keep your strongest characters
attacking the water monsters while the weaker ones stay out of their
range and fight the easier ones. After saving Katsuhito, go back to
Mihoshi's Shuttle. Here Mihoshi will fetch Yukinojoe, but be cornered
by monsters again. Fight them off. Now, you can start training. I
suggest that you get your favorite characters up to level four before
entering the River then Funaho to the Main Gates or through the Woods,
Cliffs then Bridge to the Back Gates. Going through where the Main
Gates presents an easy fight since there's more area to be on land. If
you go either way, you'll run into a few monsters. After the battle,
you'll be inside the ship.

Inside the ship you must rescue Sasami from Shitsumi. You can do
this one of two ways. The first way is to reach the Prison and win the
battle. The second way is to have Ryoko pick a duel with Shitsumi.
Either way is fine, but I took the Prison so I could pump Sasami up.
The Control Room, where Shitsumi is, is the top-left room. After
getting Sasami from the Prison (which I highly recommend), go to the
Container, which is the top-right corner, to get Washu. She will join
your party at level four, like Sasami. Head to the Control Room to
fight Shitsumi one-on-one with Ryoko. By the time I fought Shitsumi,
Ryoko was already at level seven so it took me only two hits to finish
her off. It's not too hard to level Ryoko up, so raise her level to
eight since this will be the last time you use her before she gets
kidnapped. After beating Shitsumi, you'll find Kusumi for the first
time. She'll be in a relatively small tank-like mechanism.

There are two ways to beat this boss. First, pick three of your
strongest warriors, especially Aeka. Have Aeka be the last person in
your party. Have your strongest characters get rid of the claws while
Aeka and the other character attack the main body. That might take a
while, so you can use my cheap tactic, which I'm sure you would've
thought of by now. Notice how Kusumi can't move? use it to your
advantage. Put your strongest character and Aeka in your party. You can
put other characters, but it's not necessary. Leave Aeka in the rear
half of the screen so she is out of range of being attacked. Now take
your other character and have him, her or it stay in the rear half of
the screen until he, she or it has eight power bubbles full to Morph.
The only exception to this is with Katsuhito. All you need is to get
three power bubbles full and use Kiaijin. This fills all your power
bubbles. Next, have your attacker step into range and use his, her or
its strongest attack. If you get hit, back out of attacking range and
have Aeka heal you. Repeat this. This can be used whenever you face
Kusumi. After, Shitsumi will join you, but she is only at level one.
She gets much stronger as her levels progress, though. To raise
Shitsumi's levels, have a stronger character lower an enemy's HP and
have Shitsumi finish it off. Do this to get levels on any weak
character. Now you will be riding in the ship.

Here, you will split up into two parties. I suggest that you have a
party of Tenchi, Washu, Shitsumi and Aeka and a party of Katsuhito,
Mihoshi, Sasami and Yukinojoe. My reason for placing Shitsumi where she
is is because while raising her levels, the others will be giving free
hits to the enemies, so you need one of the best all around people in
the party. Katsuhito remains in the party of higher levels so you can
get through quicker. The battles are pretty easy except if the keep
coming. To solve that problem, try to trap all the monsters in one
area. There are about three rounds of monsters. After, you will land on
the third and last platform. This place is pretty straight forward.
There are only two places to train. After training, go to the
Laboratory to fight a slightly tweaked Kusumi. Use the same tactics as
before.

Next, you must fight three Ryokos and the real Ryoko. Be careful,
though. If you attack the real Ryoko, the one in pink, she will die and
you will also. Like most other enemies, the clones can multiply so make
the job quick. After winning, you get Ryoko back. The next battle will
be a fairly simple one. Next, you will fight golden Ryo Oh Ki clones.
What next? More monsters! After that batch, you'll find everything all
quiet. Why? Guess who!

That's right, kids! Kusumi's back and she has a brand new toy, too!
Despite its size, defeat it like you always defeat Kusumi. Or you can
do something else. Remember Shitsumi? If she's at level eight, you can
win with just a few attacks! All for you to spell out 'THE END' for
Kusumi.

Or not. After, she's still alive. She Morphs to raise her power. Not
even Washu the genius scientist can beat her now! But wait, there's
more! Golden Shitsumi! What to do. What to do. Let's try backing to the
rear half of the screen until the Golden Shitsumi come for you! Then,
hit them with your best attacks! You might even be able to throw in a
Morph or two. After getting rid of the Golden Shitsumi, let the real
Shitsumi go ahead and attack Kusumi with her strongest attacks. It'll
only take around five hits to finish her off.

Now that you've beaten the game, Shitsumi walks over to the fallen
Kusumi and begins to attack her. After a short time of thinking, the
party leaves the two alone and take the ship home. Roll the credits!

[V - Next Update]

This section includes information I would like to know. These are
if Shitsuki's name is Shitsuki (or is it Mizuki?) and what those power
bubbles are. I assume they're Kiai, but I'm not sure.

Next Update: Information on those barrel-thingies will be added, though
not inducted into my FAQ since I don't use them, just like Yukinojoe.
