Dhaos's Castle (AC. 4202) Mini-Walkthrough
----------------------------------------------

I: Getting There

This part of the game follows the part concerning the Valhalla Plains and the
battles with Pegasus. The castle itself is not hard, but the random enemies
are really nasty. Most people suggest having your characters at level 50 or
higher, though you might be fine if you're lower, depending on your mad
skillz. (I was at level 37 when I beat it in the fourth play through the
game.) Stock up on Holy Bottles though.

Also, you might want Jet Boots. Not for the castle itself, but to make the
trips across the Valhalla Plains go three times faster. Go to where you fought
Ishrantu (Ishlant, if you prefer) and continue right. Then go north to the castle.

If you want to level up first, and the Ymir Forest isn't cutting it for you,
you can wander about just inside the door to the castle. After a few battles,
go back to Midgard's inn.

-------------------------

II: Monsters/Items/Etc

Draygen - They aren't too bad. Arche likes using Fire Storm on them, because
they are water-element. They drop ?Weapons. Long Swords, I believe.

Dullahan - They shoot at you.

Iron Man - Golem-type guys. They're faster than they look, but they're weak to
lightning.

Druid - They can heal the other enemies and cast Barrier. They can be nasty
with their staves if you're close enough. They absorb most elements. They drop
?Weapons, which are Moon Falux. (It's better than the Mecha-Halberd I think,
but it heals some of the enemies in this dungeon.)

Charons - Very annoying. They cast Thunder Blade and are healed by most (all?)
elements. And they often come in groups of five.

Evil Lord - Only mini-bosses. They drop Rune Bottles. Weak against Indignation.

Dhaos - He's got voice-acting. :o

Items: Apple Gummy (4x), Orange Gummy (3x), Life Bottle (2x),
Rune Bottle (3x), Sage, Lavender(2x), Halberd, Mecha-Halberd, Rune Rod,
Magical Broom, Mental Ring, Mystical Rune, Aqua Mantle, Flame Mantle,
Hourglass, Elixir, White Mist, Armlet, Dragon Steak (4x), and Charm Bottle.

Treasures: Magic Mirror, Gold Key

Spells: Fire Storm, Distortion

-------------------------

III: Stuff you need

A Body Amulet (Paraly Check) might be nice, because the vine enemies paralyze
you. They can be bought in Alvanista. Heck, bring several.

Make sure you've got the Mecha-Halberd for Cless. The Thunder Clap, Slayer
Sword, and Moon Falux all have disadvantages. You can find a Mecha-Halberd
early in the dungeon, but some enemies are healed by elemental weapons.

Apple Gummies, Orange Gummies, Lemon Gummies, and HOLY BOTTLES.

-------------------------

IV: Item Detour

Feel free to skip this part. When you first go in, there are stairs in front
of you. Ascend these and enter the door to the left of the mirror. The
state/pillar in front of you can be inspected for a Mystical Rune.

Go into the door in the middle of the westward stairs and follow the path for
an Aqua Mant and Flame Mant. When you get to the room with many pillars, exit
to the southeast to get back to the castle entrance. (The other door in the
room with many pillars leads back to the westward staircase.

-------------------------

V: Main Part 1

Go to the path on the right side of you. Inspect the plant for a Sage and a
Lavender. The door is locked (one-way), so go right. You'll come to a switch
that you've got no choice but to step on. Cross it, and it'll open one door
and close one that is out of sight. Go in the newly opened door for the Fire
Storm spell for Arche.

The door to proceed was closed/locked when you crossed the switch. Inspect
both weapon racks for a Halberd and a Mecha-Halberd. (Equip the Mecha-Halberd
if you don't already have one.) Then go south. You'll come through the door
next to the plant from which you got the Sage and Lavender. Go right tread
over the switch again to close the Fire Storm door and open the other.

Go up the flight of stairs and through the first door above you. Step on the
switches as the sign says. (Up, down, right, left, down, up.) Go out, go to
the door on your left, and continue up.

You can't get stuff from the plants here. Just go right, watch Cless get
freaked out by the wacky mirror, read the sign if you want, and continue up
the stairs. The next room has two such mirrors; make a note of all three and
continue forward.

The left door leads to a Orange Gummy and a Life Bottle. The right door leads
to two Apple Gummies and a Rune Rod. The middle door continues forth. In the
next part, the left path leads to Apple and Orange Gummies and a Life Bottle.
Continue to the right.

-------------------------

VI: Four Switches

When you get to the dining room (note that that there are no enemies in this
room), go to the far end and read the sign by the door. (If you can't find a
sign to read, look for a small mauve-colored table and read that instead. :)
Arche says that the sign tells you to step on the four switches on one side
at the same time as those on the other side. That opens the door. It sounds
so easy, but Arche's a booger about it.

You can start walking before the timer ends. Go stand directly below the first
switch. As soon as Arche gets to hers, walk straight up to push your first and
second ones. If you're walking (not using Jet Boots), you'll get both switches
at the same time as her. She takes an odd path prior to the third switch.
Before the forth, she almost gets to it, jumps back to #3, and then goes to
hit it....

It's more likely to give it to you if you're a split-second early than if
you're a split-second late. It's frustrating until you get the hang of it,
but just keep trying. Everyone else can made it, so you can too. :)

(If you're using an emulator and get frustrated enough to cheat... mess with
your emulator settings to slow the frame rate down.)

-------------------------

VII: Find the Magic Mirror

After the dining room... leading down gets some treasures, but I don't
remember what. Same for the two (up and down) rooms to the side of the next
part.

In the next room, you'll find that the switch won't keep the door open unless
you stay standing on it, so go upstairs and push the Demitel statue into the
hole. Go back downstairs and leave the statue on the switch. The next room has
no statue, so you'll have to leave a person. I recommend Klarth.

Enter the next area and go left when you're in the hallway. Continue in that
direction until you get to stairs. Go up them and enter the northernmost door.
Fight the dude for the Magic Mirror. (A Treasure item.) Backtrack, pick up
your character, and backtrack some more. (Specifically, to the very first time
you saw one of those freaky mirrors. Yes, that far... :[)

-------------------------

VIII: Use the Magic Mirror

Actually, stop one room prior, where there is a weird mirror on either side.
For each mirror, examine it, and you will get into a battle. Technically, you
can skip these two.... But, in my opinion, it's worth it.

The battles are all against Evil Lord, who's the mini-boss, and his two lizard
lackeys. (One of the lackeys shows up behind you.) Use Luna, Indignation, Fire
Storm, and Ray for best results. You may want to switch Cless's weapon to the
Moon Falux, but switch it back afterwards. After you beat the mini-boss,
you'll be teleported.

The mirror on the left teleports you to a room with a Lavender, 10000 Gald, an
Hourglass, an Elixir, and a White Mist.

The mirror on the right leads to a book of spells that teaches Arche
Distortion. It's an instant-death spell. A weak one. It doesn't work on
bosses or mini-bosses, and it rarely works on random enemies. Make sure you
turn it off her AI before you're next battle, so she only uses it on the rare
occasions that you want her to.

Now for the next mirror. Go down to the place where Cless first got freaked
out, and fight the Evil Lord.

You'll be teleported to a whole area, not just a little room. Go south and
continue until you find a room with a sign telling you to flip the last code
horizontally. (Put in up, down, left, right, down, up.)

Go out: Yay! The Gold Key! (A Treasure item.)

Go back to the mirror and go west for an Armlet, a Rune Bottle, and a Magical
Broom. Each statue/pillar has a switch on it. Push them both and get a
Treasure box with a Mental Ring. :)

Go back to the Mirror and teleport.

-------------------------

IX: Main Part 2

Now go aaallllll the way back to the room after the Demitel statue. It's
important that you leave Arche.

When you're in the hallway, you can go west to the table, then go south. Open
the locked door for Dragon Steak. It's a food item. If the food isn't worth the
journey's 1-3 random battles, just go to the locked door to the right. It
unlocks with the Gold Key.

You'll find yourself on the other side of the room that had had the Demitel
statue. When you approach the hole, your group will yell at Arche. She flies
through the hole and joins you. :) Get the box too; I think it was a Charm
Bottle.

Go back to the hallway and continue left until you reach the stairs. Go up
and go through the downward door to your right. Then go again to the door on
the right and be in a room with a save point. (If you're playing on a cart,
feel free to start singing "Hallelujah~!") You need four people to open the
door, but you should have them now. So go through.

There's an Evil Lord blocking your path. Kill him like you did the others.

-------------------------

X: Dhaos

After that last Evil Lord, Dhaos is just up ahead. You've got to fight him
now. If you use a cart, go back to the save spot before the Evil Lord first.
Unless you prefer range to the extra 60 slice power, you may want to switch
Cless's weapon to the Moon Falux. I did not.

I'm not very good at strategies, but I beat him easily this way on
level 35-37.

Set your group up so that the battle is like:

A
M K                        C   E  E  D

So Mint is in the back and Cless is far away from everyone. Set Arche and
Klarth to auto-cast, but try to control them manually if possible. (Luna is
best for Klarth, and as you should know if you remember the game's intro,
Indignation is Arche's best spell.) Aim them at Dhaos only, not the Evil
Lords, because Dhaos gets nasty if the Evil Lords die.

All is not lost if the Evil Lords die first though (which is good, as they
probably will). Just try to get Dhaos knocked down a bit before they do. Once
they die, make sure Klarth and Arche are on Call/Cast many Spirits/Spells and
let them do their own thing. Cless's job is more to keep Dhaos busy, but
damage is a nice bonus. I liked using Fury Slash (Shinkuuhazen). Watch out for
Dhaos's Tetra Attack, because it'll knock you -clear- across the battle field
and stop Mint/Klarth's spells.

It's not a really easy battle, but it's not hard either. You'll get two Rune
Bottles, a Jade/Emerald Ring, and probably a few level-ups.

What's that Dhaos yells at you? "So... sonna... sonna bakana!" I haven't been
able to get anything sensible from trying to translate.

Anyway, the level is over, and you don't have to walk out yourself.
