-Updates-

May/02/2003 Now there IS a one... and it's a biggie.  Major rewrites, fixed
errors I could find (Only spelling and grammar related)  Added offsets for
Character Statistics.

May/03/2003 Not much of an update as such... I just messed up before
uploading and didn't properly format my guide, which would cause a slight
delay.  Sorry about that.

-Introduction-

When I first started playing Tactics Ogre, I really enjoyed it, and thought
that there was almost nothing that could make it better.  I mean, my team was
fairly powerful, had good equipment, and was diverse enough to deal with almost
any challenge the game had thrown at me with ease.  Then I reached chapter 4,
and suddenly, the game was annihilating me.  It was a matter of save game, try
to move to next location, and if there was a random battle, reset, and try
again.  So I went to the 100 floor dungeon (Hell's Gate) to try and get some
better stuff.  And then I found pain.  Truthfully, it is a major pain to try and
get almost anything from that dungeon, so I have been putting together this
guide.  I don't really care what you decide to do to your team with this, but,
have fun trashing the enemies!

-Save State Hacking Mini Explanation-

As unlikely as it seems, there are probably people who still don't know about
the procedure of hacking a save state.  So here is a small explanation.  A save
state file for ZSNES is written in a number format called hexadecimal.  By using
a program called a "Hex Editor", you can change the data within the save state,
and have the potential to do things with your game that were otherwise
impossible.  Many people seem to prefer using a Hex Editor called Hex Workshop,
but I like to use one called XVI32 (see if you can get the joke on that one).
Hex Workshop has more features than XVI32, but XVI32 is freeware, therefore,
there is no trial period, you may use it as long as you like, unhindered by
features only for a "full version".  Get this Hex Editor at
http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm  (Though I have
found that some of those features that Hex Workshop has, and XVI32 doesn't, are
very helpful)

-What Is Required-

1) ZSNES
2) Hex Editor
3) Brain
4) Tactics Ogre ROM (do not ask where to obtain this, I do not know, and it IS
illegal to possess ROMs, whether you have the original cartridge or not)

-(2)=Offsets=(2)-

As of this update, this guide may well be complete.  I don't know...  But
further input is welcome if there are more offsets found that have not been
covered.  On another note, for items, they are listed in much the same fashion
as in the game, so the only definite offset start is for the helmets, and after
that, the offset locations are determined by the number of item slots that are
filled.  On yet another note, I have tested the SnapShot Dragon magic, and have
found that the game can store only 3 different SnapShot swords, and after that
it is no data (wasted magic, and character) so choose the swords wisely.  As for
the final note, magic has yet another limitation on it, as there is an offset
that has to be modified in order to add spells to your file.

-Character Class and Type Modifiers-

Character Offsets, starting from the top left (presumeably Denim) and going to
the right.  Character Type is who the character is, and are they generic, or
special.  Class is self-explanatory.

Character 01 Type  BEBF
Character 01 Class BEC0
Character 02 Type  BEC1
Character 02 Class BEC2
Character 03 Type  BEC3
Character 03 Class BEC4
Character 04 Type  BEC5
Character 04 Class BEC6
Character 05 Type  BEC7
Character 05 Class BEC8

The next line down, is characters 6 - 10, and this continues until you reach
30 characters.

Character 06 Type  BEC9
Character 06 Class BECA
Character 07 Type  BECB
Character 07 Class BECC
Character 08 Type  BECD
Character 08 Class BECE
Character 09 Type  BECF
Character 09 Class BED0
Character 10 Type  BED1
Character 10 Class BED2

Argh, I could say it just continues onward in ones from here, but I guess I have
to be friendly...  Row 3 (count 2 down from the top)

Character 11 Type  BED3
Character 11 Class BED4
Character 12 Type  BED5
Character 12 Class BED6
Character 13 Type  BED7
Character 13 Class BED8
Character 14 Type  BED9
Character 14 Class BEDA
Character 15 Type  BEDB
Character 15 Class BEDC

Now to Row 4

Character 16 Type  BEDD
Character 16 Class BEDE
Character 17 Type  BEDF
Character 17 Class BEE0
Character 18 Type  BEE1
Character 18 Class BEE2
Character 19 Type  BEE3
Character 19 Class BEE4
Character 20 Type  BEE5
Character 20 Class BEE6

..Row 5

Character 21 Type  BEE7
Character 21 Class BEE8
Character 22 Type  BEE9
Character 22 Class BEEA
Character 23 Type  BEEB
Character 23 Class BEEC
Character 24 Type  BEED
Character 24 Class BEEE
Character 25 Type  BEEF [where's the beef? right here! :)]
Character 25 Class BEF0

And, last, but not least, Row 6

Character 26 Type  BEF1
Character 26 Class BEF2
Character 27 Type  BEF3
Character 27 Class BEF4
Character 28 Type  BEF5
Character 28 Class BEF6
Character 29 Type  BEF7
Character 29 Class BEF8
Character 30 Type  BEF9
Character 30 Class BEFA

* As a little note about these offsets, the game seems a little odd about how
it is writing characters into the save state, so if there is 00 for your 2
offsets you want to edit, try doing a search for the person's type and class.

-Character Statistics-

Ugh... the Character Statistics.  Bane of my existance.  I was looking for these
for quite a while, and now I have them.  Possibly ALL of them (including
loyalty).  Statistics are listed in the save state in the same manner as in the
game itself, which means Current HP, then Max HP, then Current MP, and so on,
down through Strength, Vitality, and the rest.  All statistics (Except Luck, and
the unknown stat) take up 2 offsets, and as is usual for these, if you wanted
to input 800 strength for a character, you would locate the proper first offset,
and enter 20, then in the next offset, you input 3.  This is 320, or hexadecimal
for 800.  I still do not know WHY the data is inputted like that, but that is
how it is done.  You COULD input it as 03 20 instead of 20 03 but I don't know
if it would actually work like that...  Though if it did... :P  Also, Move does
not appear to have an offset, as it is determined by the class itself, not by
any character stat or piece of equipment.

-Item Offsets-

Item Offsets, for those who were not paying attention earlier (for shame), the
way item offsets are listed, is they start from your first helmet, and continue
from there, to second helmet, third, and so on.  But, in the event there is no
first, second, or third, or whatever helmet, it is the first weapon.  And this
continues up until you have run out of items.  And, to note for the SECOND time
(it is important) the game can store up to 3 SnapShot swords, no more.

First Item             C78C
Quantity of First Item C858

-Magic Offsets-

Magic Offsets work about the same as the item offsets, except for one thing.
There is an added offset that is the amount of magic you have, so if you are at
the start, and add 30 spells, without changing that offset, you will not be able
to use those spells.  The first spell is the first wind spell you have, but in
the event you don't have a wind spell, it is the first fire (and so on) spell
you have.

First Spell             C926
Quantity of First Spell C95E
Quantity of Spells      C996

For the classes with the *'s, they are only to be set as classes, and not type.
If you set these classes as the character's type, they are extremely glitchy,
and just do generally bad things.

-Other Notes-

When you are adding in these items, and magic, if there is nothing there, feel
free to use the overwrite setting while typing.  But, if there are items already
there, figure out what you are putting in, and where to put it so you don't
cause any glitches in the save state, and use the insert setting.  After
inserting, just erase as many 00 offsets after the items, as the amount you
added.  Also, if you add magic, and you can't use it in the game, MAKE SURE YOU
EDITED THE MAGIC QUANTITY OFFSET TO THE APPROPRIATE AMOUNT.

-Credits, Thanks, and Shameless Plugs-

This time 'round...  I'm very sorry for keeping anyone who has been following
this waiting.  I did look a little bit for the stat offsets on my own, just not
very hard.  And so, 10 months later, I FINALLY update this guide.  Now, onto the
thanks.  I would like to thank CJayC for giving me somewhere to find help for
my games for the past 3 years, I would also like to thank all the numerous
people out there who make faqs for games, as without them, I would have been
lost on many a game.  Next up, I thank the GameShark Code Creators Club, for
providing many of the identifier digits that I used here,  and I would like to
thank Chris Gonzalez for the rest of the identifier digits I listed.  His
Tactics Ogre site is still great... it's just moved ^^
(http://luct.tacticsogre.com/)  And for no other reason than they keep me going
when I'm down, Fred Gallagher/Piro and MegaTokyo (http://www.megatokyo.com) Ian
J. and MacHall (http://www.machall.com) Young Wang/MerleKitty and Nekobox
(http://www.nekobox.org) Vaz and UnderPower
(http://underpower.non-essential.com) and all of the anime studios out there
(whether I have watched any of their series or not).  I still thank Unholy
Titan2287, as without his PAR codes, I couldn't, or possibly wouldn't have
started on this guide, and I add in the mysterious soul at [email protected]
who kicked me in the rear by giving me the offsets for Current and Max HP
(don't flood his inbox, but thank him for this!).  I also would like to thank
Quest for making this game, and many other great Ogre Battle games.  Whew, I
thanked a lot of people (laughs).

If you have any questions, or comments, mail me at [email protected], hate
mail, requests for the ROM, and anything porn related should be redirected to
your recycle bin, but complaints regarding the guide are acceptable provided
they are tastefully done, and intelligently written.  Even better though, if
you would like to speak with me on IRC, go to irc.gameclans.net, and the channel
is #seod.  I am usually under the nick [SEOD]--|Ysarro|.  I can also be found
hanging around on irc.aniverse.com in #Akira, under the nick Ysarro.  Feel free
to idle, chat, have a good time, just don't upset the ops :).
