~~ II. BASIC TIPS ~~
Higgins has gotten a little more agile in his transition to the SNES and can
perform new moves:
Super Jump: Down Arrow + B
Low Throw: Down Arrow + A
High Throw: Up Arrow + A (Only works with Boomerang)
Duck: Down Arrow
A) Be aware that fruit is hidden all throughout the island! Throw your axe or
boomerang to discover it and gain points as well as restore your health!
B) Search all of the limbs in the vertical Dark Forest level. Some limbs are
loaded with fruit!
C) The guys with balloons are easiest to nail using High Throw with a
Boomerang. This can be performed while walking.
D) Everytime you hear an electronic ring-like sound, know that you've
stumbled upon a hidden fruit by tossing your weapon. Sometimes, however, it
won't be visible because you're standing on top of it. Simply move aside and
toss.
E) Extra lives are earned every 50,000 points. To ensure that you get
maximize extra lives and have the highest chance of beating the game:
Collect all weapons and fruit, even if you don't need them.
Actively search for hidden fruit.
Kill all creatures.
F) Hidden in some levels are bonus stars. When collected, these starts
transport their owner to a bonus stage, where extra lives may be earned.
G) Take your time in levels, if possible. They will be much easier to
complete this way, and you can't afford to lose a lot of lives, as I'm sure
you know.
H) If you find yourself getting frustrated, take a short break. I know I
always perform better at difficult games after taking a quick breather.
~~ III. BOSSES ~~
O0000000O BOSS 1: ANGRY STATUE O0000000O
Difficulty Level: ** out of *****
When the music changes and you find yourself in a blue-tiled room, you know
Angry Statue is near. Proceed to the right until the lights cut on. First,
Angry Statue will spit out ghosts who begin to travel harmlessly around the
room. Second, it will spit out ground fire. Prepare to perform a Super Jump
as soon as the fire hits the ground. Utilizing this you can easilly win the
fight as long as you toss axes at the statue's head at the peak of your Super
Jumps. Do this quickly and the statue will be nothing more than a pile of
rocks before you know it.

O0000000O BOSS 2: CLAM O0000000O
Difficulty Level: * out of *****
The boss music will kick in on stage 4 of the 2nd area. In this water area
are many spiked hazards; avoid them. Swim up and out of the way of the first
ones until you arrive in Clam's lair. Clam will lash out at you with his
pearly tentacle. It will also toss small sea creatures upwards at you, so be
careful. The prime way to beat clam is to simply swim up and out of the way
of his projectiles -- hitting them if necessary -- and continue to unload
maximum power axes at Clam. You can injure clam by hitting his tentacle as
well as his face. This battle shouldn't be terribly difficult.

O0000000O BOSS 3: DRAGON O0000000O
Difficulty Level: *** out of *****
Once you stop falling, you might think you're about to fight some high-tech,
mechanical boss, but then dragon's skin lights up and his head starts to
move. Your goal is to follow this head around and hit it, but some things
will try to prevent you from doing this. First of all, the dragon is
constantly moving, and if you don't move with it, you're going to fall into
the lava. However, if you follow dragon too closely, you're also going to
burn because of the lava caves dumping hot lava onto you.
The safest gameplan to go into this fight with is this:
Pursue Dragon closely at the start but whack him like there's no tommorow
with your boomerang. Once he rises a level, jump up quickly but wait for the
lava to fall before proceeding. Do the same with the next lava fall. Now,
start whacking him like crazy as he loops back around and rises another
level, but don't take too long. Leap up the next level and hang out on the
edge until the lava falls. Dragon will start to speed up if you haven't
killed him yet.
When he does, quickly follow him, ignoring all lava falls, and take him out.
He is actually easier when moving fast than he is when moving slow because
it's easy to run past the lava caves.

O0000000O BOSS 4: SKELETON WARRIOR O0000000O
Difficulty Level: ** out of *****
Though Skeleton Warrior is incredibly tall compared to the good master, he's
not very quick nor is he very bright. In fact, this boss battle will be much
easier than your last with Dragon. Start the fight by approaching Skeleton
Warrior. When he starts to lower his sword, do a Super Jump and hit him once
in the head with a Tomahawk. Skeleton Warrior will crumble then stand up
again. At the edge of the screen, the boss will prepare to jump and then leap
at you; take this opportunity to get on the other side of him so you won't
get trapped.
Now, repeat the pattern before and hit Skeleton Warrior in the head again.
After doing this three times you win. Pretty easy, huh?

O0000000O BOSS 5: BLACK MAGICIAN O0000000O
Difficulty Level: *** out of *****
Black Magician can be tough, until you learn his pattern, that is.
Afterwards, he's a pushover. When you first approach him, he will mostly be
composed of shadows. They begin to fade as you approach. Walk up semi-close
to him but not real close and start hitting him with your weapon. He will
spit out 3 balls that can turn you to stone in a single hit. You can dodge
them if you're standing in the right spot. He'll start to run around
franticly now, so be prepared to either jump or Super Jump over him and
continue your assault. Eventually he will either run off-screen or just stop
in the middle of the screen and start to change his pattern.
This indicates that he is about to start jumping, and also that he is about
to die. Keep hitting him until he gets close and then take a few steps away
from him. If you do this right, he should jump right over and land on the
other side of you where he will bounce up and down. Take this opportunity to
finish him off.

O0000000O BOSS 6: FAT DRAGON O0000000O
Difficulty Level: ***** out of *****
Fat Dragon is easily the greatest challenge you will face in this game. He is
one of those bosses that can only be defeated by themselves. Weapons will not
harm him. You must make him destroy enough tile when he lands for him to fall
in. This is easier said than done and will definitely take a lot of trial and
error. However, I can try to help out.
What you want to do is run to the left side as soon as Fat Dragon begins to
descend. Wait there for a while(you'll need to practice to get the timing
down) and move out of the way right before Fat Dragon jumps. If done
correctly, you will not get hit and he will damage a significant amount of
tiles. Now, move just a little to the right of Fat Dragon and repeat, but run
back to the left this time instead of to the right.
Move out of the way before Fat Dragon jumps again and you will probably see a
bunch of tiles turn red under him. This means they will break next hit. You
should run to the far right side of the screen and lure Fat Dragon into
jumping there. Quickly move and jump to the left to the far side of the
screen this time and lure Fat Dragon to jump there. This could possibly be
the point he dies at if you executed this strategy flawlessly. But there is a
possibility that you didn't, and you can still win. Just run to the right,
lure him there, then run to the farthest left tile left and make him jump.
Bingo; you win!

Ending: Just like most Adventure Island endings, Higgins and his girlfriend are
back on the beach cuddling. It's never explained how Higgins changed her back,
but I guess she did automatically once the magician was killed. A funny thing I
noticed is that someone in the credits is credited with "story by:", as if the
story was a great feat. Ah well, I wish I had a job like that.
