0.1: Author Info
--------------------------------

Who am I? Nobody special, really.  Just a guy with a love for Human
Entertainment who found out about this game by accident.

--------------------------------
1.1: The Game Itself
--------------------------------

S.O.S. was developed by the now-defunct Human Entertainment,
creators of the infamous 'Clock Tower' series.  The game’s basic premise
is simple: you play as one of three passengers, or a crew member, who
finds themselves on the Lady Crithania, a luxury cruise liner.  In a bad
storm, the ship capsizes, and you must find your friends and family, as
well as any other survivors, and escape.  You have one hour, and the
timer is not visible except for if you get knocked out and lose 5 minutes.

--------------------------------
1.2:  Controls
--------------------------------

Directional pad: Move
Directional pad left/right + B: Long Jump
Directional pad up/down + B: Tall Jump
B: Tall Jump
D-Pad while in air: Move during jump
A: No use?
Y: Perform Action
X: Talk
L/R: Call for followers

--------------------------------
1.3: Survivors
--------------------------------

The survivors are, to be blunt, stupid.  They have a nasty tendency to get
stuck and are physically unable to make some jumps the player can.
They can only ‘hear you’ from a room away.  This, however, leads to a
trick; pass through a room they are stuck in and call from the next and
they tend to somehow make their way through.  NOTE: Some survivors
vanish and others appear after 33 minutes pass (you get an image of an
explosion and the ship starting to sink).

--------------------------------
1.4: The Boiler Room
--------------------------------

The final ‘challenge’ in your little odyssey, the boiler room can not be
left upon entering.  However, time running out here will not have an
effect unless you fall when less than 5 minutes are left.  There is a major
danger here: a pit the AI can not cross but is needed to pass to proceed.
There is only one solution here: upon reaching the area past the pit,
climb to the boiler with the ladder on its side (or the exit platform above)
and allow yourself to be hit by the fire.  The survivors will appear near
you and can make it the rest of the way upon being talked to.

Note that in the room immediately prior to the boiler room, you must
perform a series of jumps up the side girders by jumping vertically,
moving to the right in the air, climbing up, and repeating.  Upon
reaching the boiler room, you do not need to have the passengers at the
door; they must merely be in the room.

In the room prior to that, attempting to leave with three or more
characters results in the chief engineer, Ussar, attempting to stop you.

Capris: Talk to them until Ussar says Capris should check the boiler
room alone.  Wait at the ‘answer’ query until he questions your silence,
then answer.

Redwin: Keep talking until he says it’s a waste of time to talk to Ussar,
then talk to Henry.  Henry will join and Ussar will leave alone.

Jeffery: Just keep talking, and Ussar will leave without Henry.  Speak to
Henry and he will join.

Luke:  This seems a bit confusing.  I find waiting before responding and
repeatedly trying to talk to Henry works here.

--------------------------------
2.0: Ending Information
--------------------------------

The endings to the game are based on if you rescued your ‘required’
characters and what other characters you rescued.  Other factors may
affect it.

There are 4 still pictures shown after the ending cutscene, accompanied
by text saying the ship was lost, and goes on to list the survivors.  The
four pictures are:

Dawn: The ‘best’ picture, the side of the hull is seen sloping into the
water.  No other ships are around, and the sun is rising over the horizon.

Day: The same as dawn, except the sky is blue, indicating the daytime.

Night: The third-best picture, it is the middle of the night, and the hull is
sloped across the bottom of the screen.  It has a crack in it and is red.

Sunk: Night again, but the ship is sticking out of the water and rescue
ships steam around it.  There is no visible crack.  This is considered the
‘worst.’

ENDING FORMAT:

Title- Just a quote from the ending.
Requirements: Who you need to have with you to acquire it.
Picture: One of the pictures described above.
Description: A description of the ending.
Branches: Any branches caused by characters.
Rank: Just my own little rank.  S is best, then A, B, C, etc. etc.

--------------------------------
2.1: Endings for Capris Wisher
--------------------------------

“Leave me alone.”
Requirements: Bring Amy and at least 25 points of passengers.
Picture: Dawn
Description: Capris realizes that there is no crack in the hull, and asks
several people to check the rest of the area.  He talks to Amy, but a
sudden explosion rocks the area and she falls from the girder.  Capris
grabs her hand, but she angrily tells him to let go, claiming that he left
her in her cabin on purpose.  Capris pulls her up anyways, and she
comes to her senses.  From the other end of the room, someone shouts
that there’s a hole in the hull and that they can get out.  The group
cheers.

After the usual picture/survivors report, it fades to Capris’ ‘voice.’  He
talks about his memories of the ship, and how his relationship with Amy
has strengthened.  An old sepia photo of Amy playing with a dog
appears, and Capris notes that at least he has her smile.

Branches: A bit more dialogue occurs if you rescue Sgt. John Rattler, I
think.
Rank: S

“I didn’t leave you behind…”
Requirements: Escape with passengers, but have Amy die en route.
Picture: Day
Description: One of the passengers talks to Capris, who looks up as the
others hurry to the rescue boats.  He mutters that he didn’t abandon
Amy, and the same passenger comes up and says they thought that
wasn’t the case.  Capris leaves, musing that at least he’s alive.
Branches: Sgt. Rattler again? Not sure.
Rank: A

“I’ll go back.”
Requirements: Escape without Amy, but with passengers.
Picture: Night
Description: Capris muses for a moment, then tells a passenger he’s
going back.  The passenger tries to get him to stop, but he goes back to
Amy’s cabin, now vertical.  The ship shakes, and he tells her it’s the end
of the line…
Branches: Rattler supplies extra dialogue.
Rank: B

“Were there any other survivors?”
Requirements: Leave the ship alone.
Picture: Night
Description: Capris reaches the exit, evidently tired.  Two of the rescue
crew appear and ask him if there were any more survivors.  Capris is
silent, and they say it’s too late anyways.  They leave.
Branches: None.
Rank: C

“How long can we stay here?”
Requirements: Leave with Amy, but less than 25 points of passengers.
Picture: Sunk
Description: Capris realizes there is no breach in the hull.  He goes to
check, but there is no way out.  He muses on how long they can wait
here, and returns to find the group passed out.  He talks to Amy,
reassuring her.  It all goes black…
Rank: D
--------------------------------
2.2: Endings for Redwin Gardner
--------------------------------

“You weren’t going to leave us behind, were you?”
Requirements: Exit with Harry, Jack, Stella, and at least 25 points of
passengers.
Picture: Dawn
Description: Stella and Jack stand by Redwin, who is yelling that he did
it as the others leave.  Stella tells him Harry went back for his mother,
and Redwin, now angry, goes to get Harry.  He finds Harry passed out
outside the boiler room, and tells him his mother is gone.  It cuts back to
Stella, Jack, and the rescue crew, who say they have to leave now.
Stella tells them to wait, and Redwin and Harry climb up.  The group
leaves the ship.

After the usual picture/report, it fades to Redwin’s ‘voice.’  He muses on
how the children are the future and how even he did what was needed.
He wishes everyone happiness, and a sepia photo of him, Harry, Stella,
and Jack fades in.
Branches: None.
Rank: S

“We can’t wait any longer.”
Requirements: Leave with Harry, Stella, and Jack, but less than 25
points of passengers.
Picture: Day
Description: The same as in his best ending, but he takes too long in
returning with Harry, and the rescue party takes Stella and Jack and
leaves.
Branches: None.
Rank: A

“Is the rescue party coming yet?”
Requirements: Leave, but lack Harry, Stella, or Jack.
Picture: Sunk
Description: Redwin climbs onto the girder, but realizes there is no way
out.  He grabs some rebar and bangs on the hull, but there is no
response…
Branches: None.
Rank: D, though technically it would be a B.

--------------------------------
2.3: Endings for Jeffery Howell
--------------------------------

“We’ve reached the exit.”
Requirements: Leave with Adela and at least 25 points of passengers.
Picture: Dawn
Description: Adela and Jeffery sit down and talk for a bit, and a
passenger tells them they have to climb up to the boat.  Jeffery stands up
and offers to take Adela’s hand.

After the report, it fades to Jeffery’s ‘voice.’  He seems to be talking to
Adela about how the world is becoming a darker place.  He suggest they
celebrate their happy memories, and a sepia picture of them fades in.

Branches: None
Rank: S

“You’re not attempting to go back, are you?”
Requirements: Leave with Adela, but less than 25 points of passengers.
Picture: Day
Description: Jeffery and Adela talk, and Jeffery decides to go back to
find more passengers.  Adela tries to dissuade him, but he goes back
anyways.  There is a rumbling and it fades to black.  Adela cries out
“Jeffery? Jeffery!!”
Branches: None
Rank: A

“Everyone!”
Requirements: Leave with passengers, but have Adela die en route.
Picture: Night
Description: Jeffery realizes that they are trapped under the hull, and
suggests they wait for the rescue party.  He hears Adela’s voice telling
him to help the people, and he has a quick talk with the voice.  He yells
for everyone to hit the hull with rebar.  It fades to black, and voices are
heard responding to the tapping, ending with “Survivors! We found
survivors!”
Branches: Kelly Nelson, I think, adds a bit of dialogue at the start.
Rank: B

”Adela! Adela!”
Requirements: Leave with passengers, but without Adela.
Picture: Night
Description: The rescue party arrives and asks Jeffery if there were any
other survivors.  He replies there are, including his wife.  He tries to go
back down, but the crew forcibly drags him away as he yells for Adela.
Branches: None.
Rank: C

“Isn’t it ironic that nobody except a silly old man survived!”
Requirements: Leave alone.
Picture: Sunk
Description: Jeffery has reached the exit and stares up at the stars.  He
sighs as he realizes what he has done, lies back, and stops fighting…
Branches: None.
Rank: D

--------------------------------
Endings for Luke Heinz
--------------------------------

“We did what we had to.”
Requirements: Leave with Captain Townsend and at least 25 points of
passengers.
Picture: Dawn
Description: Luke tells the passengers to come up, and they leave.  He
remarks on the situation to the captain, who tells him he did fantastic.
The captain then says he won’t be able to live with the shame, and draws
a pistol.  Luke begins to talk, but the captain cuts him off, talking about
how it was a waste of time.  He puts the pistol to his head, but Luke
punches the gun out of his hand and knocks him over.  He tells the
captain that he has to go on to tell people what happened.

After the report, he talks about the SS Lawrence on a voyage to honor
the souls of the dead.  A sepia photo of a ship fades in, with a bouquet of
flowers on the water.
Rank: S

“I will not allow you to take any more glory for yourself.”
Requirements: Leave with the captain, but less than 25 points of
passengers.
Picture: Day

Description: Luke talks to the crew, who decide it isn’t too late, and they
go back in.
Rank: B

“How stupid!”
Requirements: Leave with passengers, but without Captain Townsend.
Description: Luke realizes they are trapped, and tells everyone to hit the
hull.  It does not work, and the screen goes black…
