So anyway, hello and welcome to this guide for SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI II.
The subject will be, of course, the sword fusion system in this game.
It's not something that's discussed much, because a. the game doesn't
tell you about it and b. if you look at the section on it in Re-Miel's
faq, it can seem pretty complex at first glance. You wouldn't even know
about sword fusion unless you had a sword in your inventory that can be
used in a fusion; the options wouldn't even be there. Once you do have
such a sword in hand though, options to fuse 1 sword with a demon, 2
swords, or 2 swords with a demon will show up in the Jakyo Manor.
Now what can be so interesting about sword fusion? The best swords are,
in the normal game, gotten through this system. Once you've played enough
of this game, you'll realize a couple of things. One is that physical
attacks are your primary source of damage. Two is that eventually your humans
will outdamage your demons by quite a bit. Sword fusion lets you accentuate
this characteristic of fighting in Shin Megami Tensei II.

Faq/Walkthrough by Re-Miel - more or less everything else is taken from or
derived from this.
Re-Miel's faq contains the fusion tables which I used to come up with, and
eventually test, the fusions listed in this file. It contains all of the
sword fusion equations.
So if Re-Miel's faq does all that, then what's the point of mine?
The way sword fusion is listed in Re-Miel's faq can be rather imposing,
especially if you're reading it over for the first time. Let's say that
you've looked over Darian's item list and saw all these awesome swords that
you wanted to get. Then you hop over to Re-Miel's and look up the sword
fusion section. If you want to go from nothing to final product, it can be
rather confusing. Maybe you'll figure out a way, maybe you won't. If you
can, fantastic. If you can't, then this faq is for you.
What I will try to do with this faq is to list each notable sword that can
be made, then for each sword, list a way or two to make that sword from
the basic sword fusion ingredients. You will notice a LOT of copy and
pasting by me. The purpose of this design is so that you can hop down to any
sword in particular, and within that section should be all the information
that you need to make that sword.
By no means do I suggest that my routes are the best. They're supposed to
serve as examples. If after reading this, you can come up with faster,
simpler routes (be it for sword or demon fusion), then that's great. You've
improved as a player of Shin Megami Tensei II.

The three swords in this section will be seen over and over again
through this file. They are the base swords that you, for the most
part, must start from.
Renki-no-ken (Refined-Spirit Sword in Re-Miel's FAQ)

Renki-no-ken drops from Tenshi Principality and Youki Turdak. I think
that you can first encounter them sometime while gathering Masakado's
parts.
Fuujin-ken drops from Youma Hanuman. I don't remember how far into the
Abyss you have to be to first encounter him.
Raijin-ken drops from Youki Yaksha. Again, I don't remember how far into
the Abyss you'll have to go to first encounter him.
And since they're normally gotten as drops, I'll refer to them as
'sword drops' later in this guide.
I will be composing this file under the assumption that the above three
swords will be gotten as drops, thus placing the prospective player far
enough into the game to have encountered wild Hanuman and Yaksha so that
they can bronze-box summon them.
!!! HOWEVER, it IS possible to convert a
Renki-no-ken into a Fuujin-ken or a Raijin-ken. So theoretically, you can
make some swords right after having the Devil Analyze info on Principality
and/or Turdak to bronze-box summon with. Or just farm them via regular
random encounters.
Anyway, to convert a Renki-no-ken into one of the other two swords...
Renki-no-ken x Reichou Sparna = Kogitsune-maru
Kogitsune-maru x Reichou Phoenix = Raijin-ken OR...
Kogitsune-maru x (any Youjuu) = Fuujin-ken
Here are a few ways to make a Sparna:
Seijuu Unicorn x Youchou Benu (Chaos can't recruit Benu)
Seijuu Unicorn = Yousei Jack Frost x Majuu Cait Sith
Youchou Benu x Kijo Hag (Neutral only can recruit both Youchou and Kijo)
Datenshi Ukobach x Majuu Cait Sith x Datenshi Gagison (Law can't
recruit Datenshi)
Here are a few ways to make a Phoenix:
Seijuu Unicorn x Youchou Ocypete (Chaos can't recruit Youchou)
Seijuu Unicorn = Yousei Jack Frost x Majuu Cait Sith
Youchou Ocypete x Kijo Hag (Neutral only can recruit both)
Datenshi Gagison x Majuu Nekomata x Datenshi Eligor (Law can't
recruit Datenshi)
Making a Youjuu for the sake of having a Youjuu for converting a sword is
pretty easy.
For the Lawful players, try (any Majuu) x (any Demonoid)
Neutral and Chaotic players have the above option as well as the
option of (any Majuu) x (any Youki)
!!! Again, I will be making this file from the perspective that you'll be
getting the Fuujin-ken and Raijin-ken as drops. But you always have the
option to convert Renki-no-ken into one of the other two swords. If you
decide to do so, then more power to you earlier in the game.

And one last tip before on with the show...
Seirei fusion. If you have a demon that's just too low level or high
level for a particular fusion, but the one above or below it in the same
family would work, seirei fusion can help you in your quest to get swords
as early as possible.
Tenshi x Tenshi is an easy way to make a Sylph (3rd highest seirei)
Kijo x Kijo makes Undine (2nd highest seirei) production easy
Ryuu-ou x Ryuu-ou should also produce Undine
One example application of this is turning a Tenshi Angel (lv 21)
into a Tenshi Power (lv 36) with a quick Angel x Undine. It can help
if you haven't found wild Power for your Devil Analyze yet.
I won't get into it much, but if you think about it, there's a lot of
potential in Seirei fusion. As long as Aleph has the level, you can use
Seirei to climb up families and make higher demons before you're 'normally'
capable of (normally being just directly recruiting from random encounters
or bronze-box summons).

I have the feeling that you can produce good swords earlier than expected
if you combine the concepts of Renki-no-ken conversion and Seirei fusion.
Whether my feeling is right or not...well, that's up to you, the reader.

Now there are a couple of swords that can be made through sword fusion
that I didn't go into, because they're either terrible and/or more easily
obtainable as drops.
Kuchinawa's Sword
Attack = 140 Hit% = 38 # of Attacks = 0-1
STR +2, SPD +1

Kuchinawa's Sword is pretty bad and can be gotten as a drop anyway.
Ryuu-ou Raja Naga should be able to drop this.
The Youtou Nihil isn't that horrible, but it's cursed. But anyway, it
can be gotten as a drop from Jaki Cyclops. In my experience, they're not
even particularly rare. I've gotten a bunch just walking through tunnels
in the Abyss.

There are a few more weapons that I'd like to point out. They aren't available
through fusion, so they don't really fit the scope of the faq. But they're
weapons, so I still kinda want to mention them. And here we go:
Majou-sen
Attack = 108 Hit% = 40 # of Attacks = All Enemies, Inflicts FREEZE
STR +1, SPD +1, LCK +1
Gender: FEMALE
Alignment: NEUTRAL
This drops from Ryuu-ou Oto-Hime. Yea, it's not particularly strong and the
hit% bonus is kinda meh. Ignore that. That's not why this is a very helpful
weapon. Notice that it hits all and it inflicts Freeze. As long as the demon
is not immune to ice, there is a very high chance of Freeze landing. So as
long as Hiroko has enough speed to go before the enemies, you can freeze-lock
the enemy party for the fight. Auto-battle anybody?
Gleipnir
Attack = 120 Hit% = 70 # of Attacks = All enemies, Inflicts BIND
SPD +3
Gender: FEMALE
Alignment: LAW, NEUTRAL, CHAOS
This supposedly drops from Chirei Titan. I haven't gotten one myself, but
it should work with the same principle as Majou-sen.
Fergus' Sword
Attack = 130 Hit% = 32 # of Attacks = 4-6, Inflicts CLOSE
STR +1, STM +2
Gender: MALE, FEMALE
Alignment: LAW, NEUTRAL, CHAOS
This drops from Datenshi Baphomet. It's a decent sword to use against bosses,
given the # of attacks it has. I've had fun silencing a few bosses. I remember
that it worked on Master Therion, but I don't remember who else that it worked
on.
Gae Bolga
Attack = 155 Hit% = 33 # of Attacks = All enemies
STR +2, LCK +1
Gender: FEMALE
Alignment: LAW, NEUTRAL, CHAOS
This supposedly drops from Yousei Cu Chulainn. If you want a hit-all for
Hiroko that has more oomph but without the status ailment, go for it.

Guess I'll talk a bit about Kongokai. It's the secret dungeon that can only
be accessed after you've beaten the game (on a separate file).
Black Murasame63's faq should have more info on the general how and what it
is. I'll talk a bit about what can be dropped there, from the demons that
I've seen there. Unfortunately, I don't have the stats to get into the
neutral dungeon, so I've only seen the demons in the main area of Kongokai.
Amatsukami Amaterasu can drop Megido Fire
Amatsukami Tsukuyomi can drop Ame-no-Nuboko
Amatsukami Takemikazuchi can drop Yatsuka-no-ken
