Epyon Guide
Aim of this guide.
For you to learn how to use Epyon. I've seen to many shoddy Epyon users.
Newbies who do nothing but tap A all the time or X. Newbies who spam me with
his super and then end up yelling and getting mad at me when they lose. Epyon
is just about the most underrated and overrated character in GWED, both at
the same time.
Legal Stuff
-Give me credit, as this is written from over 3 years of experience.
-Don't mess around with the contents.
-Post it anywhere, don't need to email me.
-In accordance with some rule in some other part and article of the United
States laws or something if you mess around I have the right to sue you. Though
I doubt I will. =)
Introduction
No one came here to read about me so I'll make this brief. I'm bored. So I'm
writing this. 'nuff said.
Epyon
I will list everything I know or everything I know that comes to mind about
Epyon on here.
Attacks: (attacks are based upon the default controller settings for the SNES
controls)
A- he does a kind of uppercut like attack hitting for a max of two times with
his Beam Generator. Careful with this. As in all uppercutting attacks (aka
the Dragon Punch and such) you will have a long recovery time falling back
to the ground.
downA- He bends down and thrusts his saber forward. It knocks the opponent
up. Fast recovery, safe to use. Good damage.
B- flicks his whip forward. Weak but fast.
downB- bends down and flicks his whip over in an arc. Hits anti air but doesn't
hit directly above him. Use with caution if you plan to use it to counter
air attacks.
X- does a backflip kicking attack. Strong and knocks opponent to the ground.
Useful but slow recovery time. Hit's a full field around him. From diagnolly
down in front. All the way to diagnolly up behind him. Half circle. Needless
to say it does not hit directly below him.
downX- He kicks out with his feet. Slow but fast enough for a normal person
to not see it coming. Knocks them off their feet.
Y- He punches them. As tonberry pointed out, it looks like a handshake. =)
Slow but an effective combo starter.
downY- same, only it hits down now also.
Air attacks:
A- he does his uppercut slash attack in the air. It hits 5 areas. To hard
to name them off. But here goes. Down and a little bit forward. Forward and
a little bit down. Forward. Forward and a little bit up. Up and a little bit
forward. If you connect it at forward and a little bit down it will follow
up into two hits. This works if you connect it at forward or forward and a
little bit up also. If not then you'll just do a single hit and end up falling
back down. If it hits twice you can follow it into a qcf special. Very damaging
also.
B- launches his whip forward angling it down. Great for those enemy who likes
to stand up while you're in the air. Hunker low and go in at them. It gives
a lot of stun and when you land next to them you can almost buffer any attack
in.
X- does his spin in the air. This will hit it's full rotation. Check above
for the full rotation of attack.
Y- Looks like his downX on the ground. To bad it's not half as damaging. This
is best used if your opponent is crouching when you're in the air. If it hits
a low blow you can buffer it. If not you'll end up being thrown by a wary
opponent instead. Can be chained into a qcf if you hit it high, but you'll
have to judge that and be fast enough to compensate.
The basic physics:
Combo starters: Y and B. Both are fast. B has longer range, but face it, at
long range you won't be able to combo so it's the short range that counts.
Both can be chained easily and combos well.
Combo Finishers: X. Only X. As it sweeps them onto the ground and hurts. Sure
A hurts, but A just makes both opponent fall down. The only way A will work
as a finisher is if you add Epyon's qcf into it. That will be explained later.
Specials: Specials have two modes. Strong and weak. Strong means you have
100 energy points to use and after the motion you hit a Strong attack. A or
X respectively. Weak is if you hit B or Y. If you do not have 100 energy points
hitting the Strong button will result in a weak special nontheless.
qcb- quarter circle back: down, downback, back
qcf- quarter circle forward: down, downforward, forward
qcf qcf- the above twice, duh.
qcf: Epyon charges and flies in whatever direction you choose when he's
charging. Can be done in the air. However I've yet to see it hit as an air
attack. So don't think you're going to go doing that here. It can be chained
into any of the attacks. Y, A, B. Yes even X if you do the strong version.
Now to explain how it works. Weak version. He charges. When he charges press
the direction you want him to go in and he will then go flying into that
direction. While he charges all vulcans will not hit him but energy shots
will still hit. When he flies at them energy shots will be destroyed but
vulcans will hit. Please note Sandrock, Heavyarms, and Deathscythe's
projectile specials will hit whether he is charging or flying in. The strong
version. After your first flying sweep he will stay in the air and charge
AGAIN. You will then have the chance to select a new direction for him to
go off in.
qcb: Epyon does a lunge forward. No damage in itself. However. It can be linked
in with any of his attacks. In the middle of his lunge you can hit any of
the attack buttons and he will do their air attack respectively. Strong
version: He jumps a lot further and after he lands you are easily able to
buffer any attack you want whether the special hits or not. Quite useful
against human players as our reaction times aren't to fast. So you do it and
leap over them then quickly tap X and you'll knock the opponent clear off
their feet. Practice.
qcf qcf: His super. Most easily the most spammable attack in a lot of fighting
games. You can just do it over and over. However this is boring. And I might
add his super is worthless if you don't know how to use it. You'll just end
up making yourself look like a fool if you do it. If the opponent air blocks
you'll only be able to do it once and dish out minor damage.
My personal rant: Would newbies please stop using Epyon because of his super!
It's not all that great, it makes us know you're a complete newbie and worst
of all makes people laugh at you. Don't use it unless you know how to. Hell
I know how to and I never even use it. Unless in times of lag or on purpose
against newbies who keeps spamming it on me to show them how a real super
would work. Time it so they try to counter. Then use it's starting frames
to skip past their attacks and chain them in for a 10+ super combo that'll
send them crying to their mommies. Great a number of newbies have cussed and
dissed me for raising this on them after they do it on me 30 some times in
10 straight losing fights.

Hit A. Wait until Epyon just begins to fall back down and do the strong version

forwarddown you will charge again, the opponent will land on your charge field,
then go upforward to finish them off. I dub it a double hit A into double

None, his super hits for a lot anyways. No need for other hits to combo. =)

FAQ(frequently asked questions)
Q: Did you memorize all of those combos and can smack them all into my face
within a second?
A: Yes I know them all by heart. Perhaps not their names, as that was for
decoration but I can execute all of them efficiently and easelessly if the
lag allows me to.
Q: Are you that nutcrack on zBattle.net who sits for hours in his own GWED
game waiting for anyone to join?
A: Yep sounds like me. ^_^
Q: Aren't you that dude who wrote the zBattle.net guide also?
A: Yah that was me. =P
Q: Can I send you some of my questions?
A: Please do. This is my only guide and I plan on increasing it into anything
over the years or decades... whatever the time may suffice it to be.
Q: Eh something's wrong, your <insert combo or chain> doesn't work. Can I
email you about it?
A: Yeah do so. However please double check. I will be sure to give you credit.
As for the combos. Check your timing. Because... I'm quite sure all those
combos are executable.
Q: I'm having a problem with <insert combo here>. How do you do it?
A: First off email me with the combo name. I will record it into a zmv and
send it back to you. However if I cannot execute it then I have made a serious
error. Hey I'm only human ya know. =P
Some advanced I guess you could say strategies...
Air-Attack recoil.
Epyon's aerial Y, B, and X attacks are a bit strange. If you give yourself
enough falling distance and wait for their attack animation to finish you
can entrust yourself witn a qcf special. For example. Boost up once and do
his X attack. On your way down it will finish animating and he's free. Quickly
do his qcf before he lands on the ground. Works wonders if your opponent likes
to counter a lot.
Air qcf.
His B and Y can be linked into qcf easily if you manage to stomp on your
opponent with them. You jump in from above and use a dropping Y or B. If they
hit quickly do qcf and you will use it buffering right into them without ever
touching the ground.
Ground bashing.
When your opponent falls on the ground take advantage of Epyon's B and A combos.
Then at the end of your ground combo quickly do a qcb + weak + B attack. It
will send you flying right next up to your opponent. Newbies will be blocking
down or not block at all and you can link it with another X or combo sending
them right back down to the ground where they just got up from. Advanced
players will boost out or block it accordingly so don't bother with it against
them. Just attack and then back off normally.
Infinite pains.
Epyon's infinite hit combo. This can be easily done with Deathscythe's
infinite also. Learn it really really really well. So you can execute it on
a whim. Within a blink of an eye you can get his infinite hit combo to start
off. Well. In the frequency of the gameplay you've got to hit them with B
or downB sometimes, unless you really are just button mashing. ^_^ The momen
it hits move into your infinite hit combo starting off according to how far
you are away and bam. It's a victory for you. Have I ever done this? Nope.
His infinite requires extreme timing. I'd say someone with a reaction time
of around 0.05 seconds to execute it well enough.
Conclusion:
There. Now you know how to play as Epyon. You know what he can and cannot
do. This however won't ensure your victory. Only luck and lag will detemine
that. ^_^
Thanks list:
-QuestionM: The main man. One of my best dueling partners in Gundam Wing ED
for the past 2 or so years. Never complained, never uttered a single excuse
if he ever lost (which was rarely) and his skills are just so commendable
I think he may actually be a robot with computer like reflexes.
0_o
-KISS_Rules: a friend of mine. Sure he looks at err... how shall we say sinful
materials from time to time but nonetheless he was an awesome challenge in
GWED. His comboing skills were topnotch.
-game_tip: another good fighting partner. I learned a lot about fighting in
lag from fighting against him.
-W012345: Also close friend. You should see his artwork. =) I took some of
my Wing techniques from him. Thanks man. hehe....
-ZeroHiei: Thanks to him I will never again fight in a super lag game. hehe.
I learned it's not worth the keyboard smashing and eyes staring in amazement
at the strange vision the screen projects to you.
-zSNES team. For a great emulator.
-SNES9x team. For another great emulator.
-Bandai(Yes I know, BANDAI!!). For this awesome game which have managed to
sap away a good portion of my teenage years. ^_^
-my keyboard. For not breaking under even my most relentless button mashing
and combo tryouts. Though now my main keys are getting somewhat clickety.
Soon I will have to put this old boy to rest and buy a new one. *sigh*
-Japan. For making the greatest games known to mankind. Though I'm trying
to find who to blame for not sending Gundam Wing ED over to the United States...
Was it you!? OR YOU! OR YOUR! *stabs with spork*
