(I) [Introduction]
- Story -
It starts out when a group of thieves known as the Akaneko-dan kidnap Ranma's
father Genma from the Tendo Dojo, and Ranma sets off with his friends to
rescue him, but many more adventures await them!
- Saving Progress -
The game pak's built-in battery holds as many as three saved game files. If
there are saved files, there will be the choice to start a New Game or Load
a File. To save a game file, enter the menu screen and choose the save
command. Choose a slot and press the A button to save.
- Characters -
+=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+
| Name | Description |
+=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+
| Ranma | The hero of the story, Ranma searches for his kidnapped father |
| | Genma. He also plans to obtain the Star Crystal before the |
| | Akaneko-dan can. Ranma suffers no penalties in Ranma-chan form. |
| | He is always the leader of the party. |
| | |
| Akane | Ranma's first fiancée. She goes with Ranma to search for Genma. |
| | She learns a variety of healing Techniques, but has below-average |
| | Attack and Defense. Finally, she is the only party member who has |
| | no cursed form. She will almost always be in the party, and is |
| | an obligatory party member near the end of the game. |
| | |
| Shampoo | Ranma's second fiancée, she works in the Nekohanten ramen |
| | restaurant with her grandmother Cologne. Her Defense and HP are |
| | low, but her Speed is High and she learns a nice variety of |
| | Techniques. Her cursed form is a cat, in which she suffers no |
| | penalties. She is a somewhat useful party member due to her |
| | healing abilities and extreme speed. |
| | |
| Ryouga | Ranma's main rival, he travels with Ranma in order to show Akane |
| | how manly he is. He is a very powerful character with lots of HP |
| | and high Power, but has below-average Speed and cannot use all |
| | but one of his Techniques while in cursed P-chan form. He will |
| | often be in the party. Superb party member. |
| | |
| Genma | Ranma's lazy father who is kidnapped at the beginning of the |
| | story. He has very high HP and Defense, but most of his |
| | Techniques are useless. In his cursed Panda form, he can use |
| | one additional Technique, but it is also useless. Overall, he's |
| | a below-average party member. |
| | |
| Mousse | Another rival of Ranma who lusts after Shampoo. He joins after |
| | being beaten by Ranma for the second time, and realizes he was |
| | brainwashed by the Akaneko-dan. Mousse has average stats except |
| | for his low speed, and he can equip almost any weapon. His |
| | stat-raising Techniques are invaluable later in the game, and he |
| | can use most of his Techniques even in his cursed duck form. He |
| | is a very worthy party member since he can boost other |
| | characters' abilities to make them more powerful. |

(III) [Fight]
- Basics -
-If a character drops to 0 HP, they will faint and can no longer fight. They
can be revived using certain items, and will be restored to 1 HP once the
battle is won. If all characters fall in battle, the game is over.
-Defending not only causes the character to take less damage until their
next turn, but regains a slight amount of Ki in their meter.
-Characters can use Techniques to perform more powerful attacks or special
defensive abilities. See (V) [Techniques] for more information.
-When a character gets a Level Up after battle, their HP and Ki will be
completely restored.
-During an attack, the screen may flash and the text box will say "Critical
Hit". This is entirely random, but doubles the damage of the attack.
Beware, since enemies can have critical hits as well.
-Pressing the X button starts a Rumble, which sucks all allies and enemies
into a dust cloud where random hits are continually dealt out until
one side is completely knocked out. Note that this cannot be done in Boss
Battles.
-When the Boss of a dungeon has been beaten and the party must walk back to
the entrance, the random encounters are taken away, so feel free to explore
for items missed.
- Controls -
See Section II (Controls) under 'Fight'.
- Fight Commands -
The commands for each character in battle are as follows:
-Attack-
Select an enemy to attack with the character's equipped weapon.
-Technique-
Displays the character's Techniques; those grayed out cannot be used due
to either their current form or insufficient amount of Ki.
-Item-
Displays the Item menu, in which that character can select an item
to use on an ally or enemy, depending on the item's effects. Use the
L and R buttons to quickly cycle through Item pages.
-Defend-
Forfeits that character's turn, but decreases the damage of physical
attacks done to them until next turn. This also increases their Ki by
a slight bit.
-Run-
Attempts to have the party flee from battle. This is not always successful,
and cannot be done in Event or Boss battles.
- Status Abnormalities -
Some Techniques can cause negative status to an enemy or ally. Here is a
list of status abnormalities:
+=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+
| (Status) |(Icon) | (Effect) |
+=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+
| Confusion | ?'s | Character performs random actions on their turns |
| Sleep | Z's | Character cannot perform actions until attacked |
| Paralysis | none | Character cannot perform actions until wears off |
| Poison | none | Character loses some HP after every turn |
+=-=-=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=+=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=+

(V) [Techniques]
- Techniques -
Every character has their own unique special abilities called Techniques,
which can either be offensive or defensive. These attacks can only be used in
battle and consume some of the character's Ki meter. Ki can be replenished by
using items or slowly by walking around the map.

[Part I] - Furinkan High School
Ranma wakes up in the Tendo Dojo to the calls of Akane. She walks in and pours
a bucket on him, changing him to his cursed girl form, then leaves. Leave the

return to the world map near a cave.
Head slightly southwest from the cave to reach a town. Enter and the party
will be questioned by a pair of guards. After a botched Special Attack, the
guards will take the party to see the elder of Chestnut Village. He tells that
the neighbouring villages of Peach and Persimmon have already been taken over
by the Akaneko-dan. He also mentions that the Peach Gem is located in the
White Tree Shrine which can only be entered by using the Token of Hajutsu,
which the elder then gives to the party. Suddenly, two Akaneko-dan spies drop
from the ceiling and flee.
Leave Chestnut Village and follow the path west, then south accross two
bridges to reach Persimmon Village. Enter the bottom-left house and talk to
the chief to learn of a Akaneko-dan hideout in the area. A soldier will enter
the house and say that some of the Akaneko-dan have arrived. Everyone will go
outside and meet with Akira and his brother, who reveal the Akaneko-dan's
plot to turn the village into a giant cabaret. They both see Ranma and run
away, then their sister Rasetsume appears. She kidnaps the chief's daughter

Village wants to speak to them. Leave the city and trek back east along the
path back to Persimmon. Talk to the chief and he will prepare a boat to the
continent where the other two treasures are kept. Leave the town and talk to

Midway through the trip, the boat will be bombed by someone named Shujaku on a
flying duck. Everyone but Akane will be turned into their cursed forms, so
keep them this way and talk to the woman guarding the bridge to Tree Village.
She lets the party enter, and a geyser splashes them returning them to their
normal forms. Ranma and Mousse are tossed in prison, until Ryouga busts down
the wall and inquires where Akane is. He rejoins the group, and the party can
walk through the hole and around the wall to outside the cell. Use the Bucket
on all three characters and talk to the guard. Open all the treasure chests on
the way outside. Leave Tree Village and head southwest into a small forest to
find Woods village.
In the center of Woods village, Shampoo and Akane are tied up. Mousse rushes
toward them but gets hit by a Pineapple Bomb thrown by Kouchou and shoots
away. He demands the Peach Gem and Sakura Sword for their return, and Ranma
hands them over. Then Suzaku appears and distracts Kouchou long enough for
Ranma to untie Shampoo and Akane. Then they attack Kouchou.

(X) [Secrets]
- Akane's Ultimate Technique -
At Level 99, Akane learns the Moeru Kobushi, an extremely powerful punch
that requires no Ki to use.
- Free Okonomiyaki -
In the first city before entering Furinkan High School, the party can enter
Ukyou's Okonomiyaki Restaurant and talk to her for a free Vegetable
Okonomiyaki anytime. Exit the restaurant and re-enter to receive another,
and so on.
- Ki Meter Charge -
An easy way to charge each character's Ki meters is to walk around, then use
Ranma's 'Tekizen Daigyakusou' Technique to automatically run away from any
enemy encounters (this uses up very little of Ranma's Ki meter). Continue
doing this until each every character's Ki meter is full.
- Transformation Dialog -
Special dialog will occur between certains characters when one transforms
while the other in in the party, but only appear the first time it happens.
Try these situations:
-Ranma and Shampoo, while Shampoo uses the Bucket
-Akane and Ryouga, while Ryouga uses the Bucket
-Akane and Ryouga, while Ryouga uses the Kettle

(XI) [FAQ]
- Why does all the text make no sense?
Because it's in Japanese. Ranma ½ Akaneko-dan Teki Hihou is a Japanese Super
Famicom game.
- Can I play this game on my American Super Nintendo system?
No, and yes. The cartridge will work in an American console, but there are
two plastic tabs inside the cartridge slot that prevent imported game from
fitting in properly. They can be easily removed with a pair of pliers, but
doing so voids the console's warrenty (which probably expired years ago
anyway). In any case, do so at your own risk.

-Rumiko Takahashi, for creating the wonderful Ranma ½ universe.
-Toho & Shogakukan, for making this game.
-Damius, for putting up with my constant Ranma-related ramblings.
-CJayC, for his devotion to GameFAQs.
-Eric Marks, for telling me about Akane's Moeru Kobushi technique. Thanks a
bunch, Eric!
-Michael Wilson, for telling me exactly what Genma's Mouko Takabisha (and
giving me an idea of the Jigoku No Yurokago's effect) technique does.
Sankyuu!
