 FAQ covers Super Famicom Game "Princess Maker : Legend of Another World"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 I've had a pretty extensive collection of Princess Maker webpages over the
years.  I suddenly had the realization of "Hey, why not write a FAQ of sorts?"
I've been visiting Gamefaqs.com for years, and there aren't ANY for the other
Princess Maker games.  So... I'm going to write a collection of FAQS, all of
which have to do with the Princess Maker series.  Hopefully they'll be useful
to someone.  I almost thought someone would have come out with at least the
other games faqs by now.  Oh well!  I'll try to be as helpful as possible.
If statments from this FAQ seem awfully familiar, you probably have been to my
Princess Maker Nexus Webpage at some point in your child raising careers.
It's easier just to quote what I've already written instead of starting fresh
and new. Anywhos... do you want to see pictures and stuff from the games?
Check out the above said webpage, and please let me know if you enjoy this FAQ
or want to let me know about something at my email address of
[email protected].
----------------------------------
1) Introduction                  |
----------------------------------
Princess Maker is a game series created by Gainax.  You may know of Gainax
through their animated features before their video game creations.  They are
the popular folks behind Neon Genesis Evanglion, Gunbuster, Nadia: Secret of
Blue Water, Otaku No Video, and a great deal of others I cannot recall.  It
originally started back in 1991 with a simple game titled "Princess Maker".
It was pushed off as a "Childcare Simulation Game" and was released for the
IBM PC.  Eventually it had spawned into a rather extensive series of games,
including a Princess Maker 2 and 3, plus a Playstation game called
Princess Maker: Go! Go! Go! Princess, a Princess Maker Puzzle game, a Quiz
game called "Princess Maker Q", and even a Princess Maker 4 in the works.
Princess Maker: Legend of Another World was the third game created for the
series.
This FAQ is composed of information gathered from the Super Famicom version.
Remember, this game was only published in Japanese.  I'm working from a
Japanese version of the game.  While it may seem hard to navigate through
such a game as Princess Maker with absolutely no knowledge of Japanese,
I have translated the basic statistics, the job names and schooling.
There are even some options I may neglect to mention.  There are so
many menus in this type of game - I apologize if you get lost along the
way (especially those who aren't able to read Japanese one bit).
-----------------------------------
2) Options                        |
-----------------------------------
When you start the game, you are given several options and your decisions now
will affect how your daughter will live for the entire time.  I will explain
what the options are, in order that they appear.
Starting the game.
When you start the game there is absolutely no story to this one, it just
goes straight into asking the simple questions that are your main choices.
Your Surname:
Daughter's Name:
Daughter's Birthdate: Month, Day
Your Age:
Your Birthdate: Month, Day
Daughter's Bloodtype:  Bloodtype
The controls are REALLY simple for this.  Start to start the game. A
button to initialize/execute anything, and B button to exit out of
the menu.  If you accidently go into a menu you don't want, press B and
you will exit it.  That simple.  You move the cursor around with your
control pad.  The only four buttons used are A, B, Start, and your
controller/D-pad.
a) Your Surname
This is the name you choose for you and your daughters last name.  You can
have a very menacing name like "Scarbleeder" and it wouldn't matter in her
future.  People may comment something loverly like "Look, it's the
daughter of Scarbleeder!"
b) Daughter's Name
This really doesn't mean much.  It would just be the name that people refer to
you as.  Usually in interaction with your daughter.  Let's say we chose the
name "Idiot".  The townspeople would go "Oh look!  It's Idiot!".  Although
there is no special cheat to get the default name,  her default name (as
listed in the manual, and confirmed by Nine Lives Website) is "Melody".
c) Your Daughter's Birthdate
This is where your choices actually matter.  Your daughters birthday is what
determines things like her immediate interests, though they aren't known to you
immediately.  Your daughters birthday is in the year 690.
d) Your Age
This holds no meaning.  You can choose any age you want.  You as the
father could be 18 or 85, or whatever.
e) Your Birthdate
This is almost important, in the aspect of if your daughter loves you very
much, she will certainly give you gifts and bake you a cake!  Oh, you're
such a lucky fellow.  My suggestion would be to choose a compatible
sign with whatever your daughters sign is.
g) Daughter's Bloodtype
This has a very tiny bit to do with in gameplay.  There are
four blood types available.  Bloodtype is actually very important in
japanese culture, and will determine a little bit more of your daughters
personality and starting skills.  Here is an explaination of the bloodtype
meanings.  Either way.. here is what I have found in researching
about the four blood types.
A - People of this blood type are honest, introverted, nervous, loyal,
perfectionistic, orderly, detail-oriented, industrious, idealistic,
soft-spoken and careful.
Positive: Orderly, Law-Abiding, Fastidious, Soft-Spoken and Fashionable.
Negative: Picky, Selfish, Secretive, Pessimistic, Inflexable, and Reckless
when drunk.
When your daughter has an A bloodtype, her stress will be +2 at the end
of every month.
B - People of this blood type are outgoing, optimistic, adventurous,
flexible, passionate, creative, unconventional and have excellent
concentration.
Positive: Independant, Flexable, Candid, Sensitive, Passionate, and Persuasive.
Negative: Unpredictable, Indiscreet, Lazy, Impatient, and Overbearing.
When your daughter has a B bloodtype, her stress will be -2 at the end
of every month.
AB - People of this blood type are proud, diplomatic, discriminating, natural
leaders, great organizers, rational and imaginative.
Positive: Rational, Calculating, Honest, Diplomatic, Organized, and Strong.
Negative: Unforgiving, Playboy, Easily Offended, Too conservative, Nitpicker,
and hard to know.
When your daughter has an AB bloodtype, her stress will not be affected.
O - People of this blood type are over-worker, insecure, emotional, powerful
leaders, goal-oriented, enthusiastic, optimistic and good at business.
Positive: Healthy, Idealistic, Goal-Oriented, Clear-sighted, Athletic, and
Sexy.
Negative: Status-seeking, Jealous, Greedy, Unrealiable, Obsessive Lover, and
Can't shut up.
When your daughter has an O bloodtype, her stress will not be affected.
This information was taken from a variety of webpages about bloodtyping.
Mainly about Sailor Moon.  Too many pages with the same information to give
proper credit.  It is very vital in your childs personality traits and
starting stats.
h)  The Menu Screen
This is when the game starts.  Legend of Another World does not have
much of a backstory as to why you have this daughter.  However, you
do have a butler named RAFAIERU, or as I will translate him (and others
also have), Raphael.  He introduces himself and his duties.  A very
simple introduction.
The Main Screen and their options.
Your daughter will be standing in the center (Much like previous Princess
Maker games) and you will have a few status boxes to explain what's going
on.
It should look like this:
----------          ------------------------
|(year)  |          |      First Name      |
|(month) |          |       Last Name      |
        Middle     |    Bust/Waist/Hip    |
Below the box on the right, there will be a box to select the different
options for what to to do with your daughter.  It's in Icons, but I'll
explain what every Icon does in this overexagerated ascii art version
of it.
Castle Button:
Your Daughters popularity is rated on how well she gets along with all
the folks here at the castle.  It depends all upon your daughters
statistics.  You have a choice to speak to these people:
Palace Guard - Get up to 40 with him, then he says you need to move on.
Royal Guard - Up to 90.  You would need sensitivity and refinement
to speak to this man.
General - Up to 120.  He likes refinement and sensitivity as well.
Having some combat skills doesn't hurt either, and neither does
charisma.
Minister of State - Up to 240.  This man likes an intelligent and
refined woman.
Queen - Up to 400.  She likes a refined woman with almost a full
decorum bar, and temperment.
King - The end of the popularity race.  He loves a woman with
fighting skills/combat skills.
Jester - You need conversation skills to talk to the Jester.  Your
social rep goes down, but your sensitivity goes up.
And only in January, Young Officer.  You need no special skills to
speak to this young man.  You choose the first option when it gives
that too you, that would confirm that you will agree to meet with
him next January.
Equip. Button:
This is how you dress your child, or give her weapons and armor.
You can also use items you'd purchased through this screen.
Save/Exit Button:
The choices here are...
Schedule: You're able to set your daughters' schedule for the month.
You are given the options of:
School
Job
Adventure
Vacation
 - Free Time (Yes, you can give her spare money to lower her stress more)
 - Vacation (Vacation you pay for)
Check under the School and Jobs section for more information on what
is available under those options.  Adventuring is rather complex and
also has it's own section.  Please view those under their own
sections.
II)  Father / Daughter Interaction
Speaking to your daughter is pretty simple.  There are a few options here
that you need to pay attention to.
Speaking to your Daughter  - General chat.  Find her interests this way!
From this screen you have several options.
  -How she is doing?
  -Her Studies?
  -Other Topics
  -Cancel (goes back to the other screen)
Pocket Money - Lowers her stress.  It's generally a random small amount.
Preach - Somewhat like scolding or being strict on your daughter.
-Cancel- - Takes you out of this screen and back to the main screen.
-----------------------------------
3) Jobs                           |
-----------------------------------
The jobs do good or bad stuff to your daughter as well.  First off, when your
daughter is 10 it gives you initially 5 jobs for her to work.  Unfortunately,
EVERYTHING accumulates stress.  More so in the work environment than in a
schooling one.  The higher end the job, the more stressful.  It also all
determines on how good she is at it, etc, and how much it pays.  If it's a
really high paying job, there may be a lot of stress involved.  As most people
also discover, she only gets paid if she does GOOD that day.  She won't get
paid that day if she sucks.
Another note, if she works the job a LOT, she does accumulate raises over a
long period of time and can aquire bonuses at the end of the week if she
does REALLY well.  It could be a raise of 1 gold to more, depending on the
start pay of the job initially.  If you work her at somewhere too often,
she may even take up working there as her profession!  All the pay listed
here is starting pay.  You can work on getting her raises on your own.
After working EVERY single job for her entire existance (no school, just doing
the job twice a month and one vacation each month for her entire lifetime), I
was able to discover that you can get at least two to three raises in her
lifetime.  They're only one or two gold though.  So instead of 4G per day, you
may work up to getting 6G per day!  Oh Joy!
a) Housework - 0G per day
What is needed to successfully do this job:
Physical Strength: 8
+ Cleaning and Washing, Cooking, Temperment and Stress
- Sensitivity
b) Church - 1G per day
What is needed to successfully do this job:
Physical Strength: 10, Faith: 10
+ Morals, Faith, and Stress
- Sin
c) Tailor - 4G per day
What is needed to successfully do this job:
Conversation: 10, Sensitivity: 20
+ Sensativity, Conversation, Temperment and Stress
- Combat Technique
d) Farm - 10G per day
What is needed to successfully do this job:
Physical Strength: 35
+ Physical Strength, Muscle Strength and Stress
- Refinement
e) Restaraunt - 8G per day
What is needed to successfully do this job:
Cooking: 50
+ Cooking, Sensativity, and Stress
- Combat Technique
When she turns 11, she'll have a choice of 1 more job.
f) Salon - 20G per day
What is needed to successfully do this job:
The Arts: 45
+ Conversation and Sensitivity
- Muscle Strength
At age 12, she now has the option of another job.
g) Government Forge / Blacksmith shop (weapons) - 18G per day
5) The Festival                   |
-----------------------------------
The Harvest Festival!  It comes once a year, in October.  Your daughter has
options available for her.  Your daughter doesn't need participate,
however that would just mean she's doing nothing for the entire month
of October if she decides to rest.  So, without further delay the contests
are... in order that you they are listed in...
-Combat Contest-
If you win, you get:
You have to go through several matches to get through the combat
grid to face down with the final person.  Every match gives you 200G
for each one you win!  Huzzah!  When you get to the end of the course
you get the final prize of...
3000G
Sword of Extreme Treasure (Worth 3000G)
Do *NOT* sell this item!  It is will get you in trouble.
-Art Contest- Requirements; Needs a painting.
If you win, you get:
4000G
Pure and Graceful Picture Frame (Worth 2100G)
The Arts + 30, Sensitivity +50
-Miss Contest- Requirements; Needs a dress.
If you win, you get:
3000G
Best of White Rose  (Worth 2500G)
Charm +20, Refinement +20
-Cooking Contest-
If you win, you get:
3000G
Egg of the Best Gold Crow, or in Pm2 it was referred to as the
"Bird of Paradise Egg".  If you eat it, she will get 50 points of Physical
Strength.  If you don't eat it, a month later a bird will hatch and your
daugther will receive 100 points of Sensitivity.
-----------------------------------
6) Adventure                      |
-----------------------------------
Going from top to bottom, the available adventure options are as follows:
a) Eastern Forest
b) Western Desert
c) Southern Lake
d) Northern Glacier
Raphael will seem concerned if you send your daughter into the
wilderness without equipment.
When adventuring, it will state these four options to you:
Equipment
Rest
Seek/Look for
Return/Go back
When you encounter an enemy, you'll generally have the options of:
Speak
Fight
Hide
Sometimes these options don't work, and you'll have to go to
another menu.  Make a guess from that menu.  Most likely you'll
have to end up fighting if you couldn't get past that menu.  There
are too many alternate versions here.  Everything from the fact
that speaking didn't work and you have to fight, or you have to
make a choice between hiding more or speaking or just right
out fighting.  Hard to say.  I didn't adventure much.  I suggest
having good armor and a fairly well versed child in the fighting
arts before venturing forth into the wilderness.
Unfortunately, unlike the previous games, you really have no choice
as to where your daughter goes.  You are given an "RPG" like screen
where you can see the forest/desert/lake/glacier, and your enemies
will appear full screen in that when you encounter them.  The combat
system is rather random and difficult to pull off.  I can guess that
the better your daughter is a magic or combat, the higher number
cards she will randomly choose.  It's done in a card game like system.
With this type of system, it costs MP points to cast any magic.
MP is based on your intelligence!  Your HP is based on your Physical
Strength skill.  So take a few classes in science and magic to get
halfway decent at wielding magic for MP, and work at the farm or the
blacksmith to work on your physical strength.  To be honest, most of
your daughters enemies (that I've encountered) really have no magic
skillz.
Sword Card: Can be from 0 ~ 9
Magic Card: Can be from 0 ~ 9
MP Recovery: Can recover from 10 ~ 50 Magical Points
HP Recovery: Can recover from 10 ~ 100 Health/Hit Points
Spirit Meeting:  You can play two cards together with this card.
Terror: I think this card makes it so the enemy cannot play a
card, and you can play one other card.
In the end, it really comes down to if the enemy actually plays
a higher number card against you or not.  Some cards can null
the oncoming (or outgoing) attack, such as an MP card or an HP card.
Some strategy can be used here, but not so much.  When traveling
around in the areas beating up random enemies, you also may stumble
randomly across treasure chests, etc.
-----------------------------------
7) People and Rivals              |
-----------------------------------
a) Others
There is a Chinese Orc that visits your daughter, much like in Princess Maker
2 who attempts to sell his products to you, of course, for a price.  These
items are very useful and will provide a boost of stats if your daughter
is low on something she needs (Especially to topple over those other girls
in the festivals).  You cannot buy these items anywhere else.  Buy things
and experiment!  These are the guesses as to what I could translate.
Good luck on finding out what they do.  Most things are obvious.  The
Thin Body Tea is a weight decreaser, the Breast pill ups the bust size,
and the necklace of the goddess most likely is mirrored to the item
from Princess Maker 2 which has a goddess/fairy visit your daughter every
birthday to bless her with sensitivity, charisma, and refinement - this
is only a guess.  It may not do that in this version.  Test out and see
what happens :)
The Orcs Item List:
Thin Body Tea  550G
Weight -2 KG   1 Valid Occurance
Tree House 1000G
Bountiful Breast Pill 1200G
Bust +2 Cm, 1 Valid occurance
Neckless of the Goddess 1500G
Charm + 20, Refinement +20
Armor of ARIAN 2500G
Defense +30, Combat Technique +10
Dress of Bewitching Charm
3000G
Charm + 60  Morals - 20
Ring of the Flower Bride 5000G
b) Your rivals
Housework/Cooking Rival:  Riri Moraso
You can guess her name probably could be romanized as "Lily Morris" or
something pretty like that.  She has glasses.  Once she is determined
as your daughters rival, you daughter will feel obligated to participate in
the Cooking Contest every Harvest Festival-Time.
Dancing/Popularity Rival: Rokusaanu Oojie
Romanized, her name would probably be "Roxanne O'Jay" or O'Shea.
She is the dancer/popularity type of rival.  If she is determined to be
your daughters rival, she would feel obligated to particpate in the
Miss Contest every Harvest Festival.
Fighter Rival: Maruda Miraazu
No clue what her name would be romanized.  Probably "Maruda Miraz".
Works part time in the Armory shop.  Gaining this rival would make your
daughter feel obligated to do the Combat Contest every Harvest Festival.
Magical Rival: Marii Oburiso
Romanized most likely as "Marie Obrizo" or something close.
She is the magical rival.  Your daughter would feel obligated to
participate in the Combat Contest every Harvest Festival should she
gain this rival.
-----------------------------------
8) Going around town              |
-----------------------------------
When you go into any shop or area, you normally are given a choice
of either "Buy" or "Exit".  You click on the item you want, and
then you confirm the purchase again.  You can usually exit out of
this with the b button, or you can go to the exit option.  The
only exception to this would be the pawn shop which has "Buy",
"Sell", and "Exit" options.
9) The other games               |
-----------------------------------
I actually will do FAQS for these as well, but it will be a long and gradual
process.  The only reason this one was so easy, was mainly because I already
hadmost of this information catalogued somewhere.  Here is a list of the
currently available Princess Maker Games.
Princess Maker -  This game came out in 1991.  Your daughters default name is
Maria Rindobagu.  The plot is that there was a huge war with the demons of the
underworld, and the child is an orphan of that war.  You decide to raise her
to be your own daughter.
Versions Available: IBM/PC Japanese, Chinese, and I've *heard* of a Saturn
Version by Microcabin, but I have not found it myself so I cannot confirm
that version.  A gaming website had it for purchase, and when I called to
order it they had already been sold out.  Whether or not it was the real
original Princess Maker or if it had been Princess Maker 2 (or even 3!) I
will never know.
Princess Maker 2 - Made available around 1994/1995.  The second game in the
Princess Maker series.  This time your daughter is named Olive Oyl.  The
plot is similar to the first one, except this time you have a God giving
you the daughter to raise from ages 10-18.
Versions Available: IBM/PC Japanese, Chinese, and an English Beta version.
This one was actually released for the Japanese Sega Saturn by Microcabin,
the disc featured different images, complete voice acting for all the
characters, plus a bonus 'Drama' track which had Olive whining for a
good 6 minutes about why her father works her so much.  There is a FAQ
currently available for this game.
Princess Maker: Legend of Another World -  The FAQ you're looking at.
This game was released around the same time as Princess Maker 2.  It was
only released for the Super Famicom system.  It plays almost exactly
like Princess Maker 2.  The only major difference would be the combat
and adventuring system is drastically different.  The default name for your
daughter is Melody.  It really is not thought of as part of the series
of games, since it is a stand alone product.  I imagine it was just Gainax
trying to make the Princess Maker series available on many platforms.
Maybe someday I should ask them.
Version: Super Famicom (Japanese Super Nintendo)
Princess Maker 3: Faery Tales Come True - Technically the 3rd game.
The japanese title is "Yume Miru Yousei", but also is listed as Faery
Tales Come True (Spelled 'faery').  This  is the most current child
simulation game.  This game was a collaberation of Gainax, and the
japanese game Company of "Nine Lives".  This is a much more involved game,
featuring options such as a choice of the fathers profession, and your
daughters disposition is much more drastic.   Your daughters default name
is "Lisa Anderson".
Versions Available: Originally released for Japanese Playstation.  There is an
odd rap with repeatative words as a 'Bonus' track.  The PSX version was missing
a few features that were included in the PC and Saturn versions.
It was then released for IBM/PC and Mac:  Japanese, Chinese and Korean versions.
There is also a Japanese Sega Saturn version available.  This includes the same
sort of bonus along PM2's Saturn Game.  It has a drama track.  Lisa is a
much happier child than Olive.  THere is a FAQ currently available for this
game.
Princess Maker Pocket Daisakusen - Loosely translated as "Big Strategy", or
I've heard it translated as Mission in a little pocket (??).  This game was
an attempt at a puzzle game.  This game was produced by Nine Lives, it gives
you the option of playing either Maria, Lisa, or Olive in an effort to play
through scenerios to become a Princess through the art of the puzzle game.
It has a very pretty opening theme, and a plethora of voice acting.
Versions: Only available for Japanese Playstation
Princess Maker: Go! Go! Princess -  You know, I'm not even sure what this is.
It looks like an RPG of sorts, featuring all FOUR daughters (Yes, that includes
the previously forgotten Legend of Another World girl).  I've only seen
screenshots, but I'm picking up a copy soon!  Wish me luck.  Also produced by
those wonderful people at Nine Lives.  I've also got sort of a "Mario Party"
feel to the game, but I have no idea since I don't own it.
Versions: Only available for Japanese Playstation
Princess Maker Q -  Another Princess Maker game produced by Nine Lives, this
appears to be a quiz game asking questions about the other PM games!  There
isn't much else that I know of it, but I'm working on gathering a working
version.
Versions: IBM/PC and Mac.  Japanese and Chinese versions.
Princess Maker 4 - Originally it may have been slated for the Sega
Dreamcast, but now Princess Maker 4 is heading to PCs and Macintoshs
very shortly.  From what I understand, your daughter is "Karen" who was
the host of Princess Maker Q.  It looks like a mixture of modern day
Tokyo with a Princess Maker setting.  Must play this before I can
completely judge. ^_^;
Verions: As far as we know, Windows 95 (Japanese only).
Princess Maker Collection -  Princess Maker 2 and 3 put on the Sega Dreamcast
and bundled as a "Collection".  Distributed by a company called GeneX.  This
is currently available.  It states to be "Powered by Windows CE" on the box.
Versions: Sega Dreamcast only.  FAQ Is currently available.
