Asked Questions" section first to see if it's there.

----I. Game Overview

---1. Story

Aruru is a kindergarten student who dreams of someday being a
great magician, like her mother. Most kids go to the Magic
Kindergarten, but only the best are able to be magicians.
Graduation time is coming up soon. Will she be able to graduate
from Magic Kindergarten and persue her dream?

---2. General Game Advice

A lot of the game can be done in any order, and it's just a matter
of whether or not Aruru's strong enough to fight the monsters in
the area. The walkthrough is just organized in the order the I did
it. I tried to go from easiest to hardest.

If you buy Puyo-dumplings, you'll heal automatically at the end of
each battle until they run out.

The Donpa-Unpa statues (statues of two dancers) can restore your
HP and MP.

If you're tired of fighting weak enemies, press the L or R button
when the puyos first appear. If you're strong enough compared to
the monster, the encounter will end automatically (and you'll
still get the Exp/money!) This comes in handy when you have to go
through the same place over and over *cough*HarpyMountain*cough*.

--A. About HP/MP/Exp

The game uses what the instruction book calls "fuzzy parameters".
Basically, it's a fancy way of saying there are no numbers. You
can't tell exactly how much HP or MP Aruru has left or how much
damage someone's attack did, but you can get an idea from how the
characters look. Aruru's picture at the bottom of the screen goes
from smiling and waving, to nervous-looking, to afraid, depending
on how much HP she has. The jewels at the side of the screen light
up as you gain Experience points. Once they're all filled, Aruru
gains a level.

--B. How to Fight

There are no weapons in Hanamaru. Aruru uses spells to fight. The
basic spells, Fire, Icestorm and Thunder do not use up any MP, so
don't be afraid to use them.

Hint: When a monster is about to unleash a powerful attack, they
skip a turn. If they do this, cast Bayoeen and you might avoid the
attack entirely.

--C. How to shop

To buy an item, walk up to the item on the counter until a bubble
with the price appears and press the B button. To sell things, do
the same with the "Sell" sign on the far left.

--D. Momonga Stations:

Momonga are giant flying-squirrel-like animals used for travel.
You can ride one from the towers, like the one near the school. It
costs 5 C, but if you get the Momonga Ticket in Old Village, you
can ride for free. In order to travel to a station, you must know
the name of the station. In other words, you must go to the
station on foot before you can ride there.

Stations:
Magic Kindergarten
Ruins Village
Forest of Darkness
Old Village
Wizard's Mountain

---2. The 7 orbs

In order to open the door in the back of the library, you need to
collect all 7 rainbow orbs. One of the old women in Magician's
village will give you hints on the location. You can also use the
Panotti's Flute, once you get it. If there is an orb in the same
screen when you play it (even though it may not be reachable from
where you are), the sound will echo.

Red orb: A chest on Lookout Mountain (need the Ribbit Boots)
Yellow orb: A chest in Dark Well
Green orb: A chest in Forest of Darkness
Aqua orb: Wizard's mountain, just west of Wolf Village (need the Toy Elephant)
Blue Orb: A chest in Devil Gate
Purple Orb: Light Garden (need the Toy Elephant)
White Orb: Buy all the souvenirs and give them to your mother. The next
morning, she'll find the orb in one of them.

Once you've found all seven, go to the library. The door will
open. Behind it are gold plates for the Fire, Ice Storm, Thunder

----VII. FAQ

Q: Where do I buy Puyo-dumplings?
A: Take the ferry from the Bazaar to Old Village. On the way,
you'll pass the Puyo-dumpling shop.

Q: Why can't I leave the library?
A: You must read all the plates and books, then talk to the
teacher.

Q: Why doesn't Carbunkle show up? Wasn't he supposed to?
A: You have to find him, first. After beating Sukiyapodes, go to
Lookout Mountain (near Grandma's house) and he'll be there.

Q: How do I get into the Elephant King tomb?
A: Stand on the cracks in the floor and use the Elephant King
Bracelet.

Q: Why won't the last warp in the Elephant King Tomb work?
A: The statue is broken. Find the Elephant Bust, somewhere in the
tomb, in order to fix it.

Q: Who is the imposter in Old Village?
A: It's Ham (bottom right).

Q: How do I get the Harpy to come down?
A: Play the Panotti's Flute.

Q: How do I read the gold plates?
A: Get the Magic Dictionary from the school principal, and you'll
be able to read them.

Q: How do I get into the small holes in the wall?
A: Get the Toy Elephant from the Bazaar and use it.

Q: How do I get flowers for the dragon in the Bazaar?
A: The fairy in the Light Garden says she'll give you a flower if
you bring her a Light Drop. Light Drops are made from Mandrake
leaves and Darkness Flowers. You can find Darkness Flowers in the
Dark Garden, near Wolf Village, after replacing the Darkness Orb.
A Mandrake can be found growing in the school garden. If you have
a Momomo wine when you pick it, it will give you one of its
leaves. Once you have both of these, take them to Penny, on the
second floor of the school and have her combine them to make a
Light Drop. Go back to the Light Garden and try to pick a flower.
This time, the fairy will give you a Bouquet in exchange for the
Light Drop.

Q: How do I get the Lightning Bug Egg back from Momomo?
A: He's already sold it. Go to the bazaar and check the souvenir
shop.

Q: Which path whould I pick in the final tower?
A: Any of them. They all lead to the same place, and there's no
treasure or secrets to be had.

----VIII. Walkthrough

---1. Intro

As the story opens, a letter arrives for Aruru. Aruru's mother
goes to wake her and gives her the letter. However, neither Aruru
nor her mother can read it. Mother suggests she show it to her
grandmother later, but first she has to go to school. Go north
from Aruru's house, through the village, to the school. She's
late, already! Miyo accuses her of oversleeping again, but Aruru
insists she didn't, and won't tell her why.

The teacher comes and announces that graduation time is near.
However, in order to graduate, the students must pass a test. A
Graduation Pass has been hidden somewhere. They must find it and
bring it to her. Class ends early because of the new assignment,
and everyone goes to the library to start their research. Read the
books for some game info, and read the silver plates on the wall
to learn some spells. You won't be able to read the gold plates,
yet.

Once you've read all the books and plates, talk to the teacher.
The school bell rings and class ends.

Aruru goes home and tells her mother what happened at school. Her
mother says that she should go show the strange letter to her
grandmother now. Go east from the house, over the bridge to
Grandma's house. Before talking to her, go farther east, through
the trees to a semi-hidden cave. There is a plate with the Jugem
spell there.

As you talk to her, Suketoudara Jr. and his band run by, saying
they're going to make trouble on the Forest of Light. Grandma says
that they're just local troublemakers and you shouldn't go near
them.

THey go inside and Aruru shows Grandma the letter. She says it
reads "When you've collected the 8 Secret Jewels, Heaven and Earth
shall grant you a wish on Wizard Mountain." There is also a map
drawn on it, but only 7 jewels are marked. Aruru figures that if
she can have any wish, maybe she can get the Graduation Pass. She
wants to start searching today, but Grandma says it's too late.
The next day, Aruru's mother wakes her and the search begins.

---1. Forest of Light and Frog Swamp

The first jewel is in the Forest of Light. Some of the villagers
say that strange things have been going on there. Rai's
gransfather wonders if maybe the spirit that protects the forest
has been angered. Talk to Chanana at school, and she says the
trouble started when Suketoudara Jr. switched the Light Orb and
Dark Orb.

Go north past the school to get to the Forest of Light. Despite
its name, it seems strangely dark. On the north side of the forest
is the Frog Swamp. When you get there, you see a one-footed
creature harassing the frogs. The frog king explains that the
creature is Sukiyapodes, who had been the guardian of the swamp.
Recently, he seems to have gone crazy. The frog king has one of
the Secret Jewels, and he agrees to give it to Aruru, if she helps
them. Sukiyapodes has gone north, but Aruru can't jump far enough
to get to the other side of the swamp. To remedy this, the frog
king gives her the Ribbit Boots. If you try to leave the swamp,
the frog king will take the boots back until you return.

When you have the Ribbit Boots, Aruru will jump automatically when
you get near a place where she can cross. Jump across the lily
pads until you are able to reach the other side of the swamp.
Sukiyapodes is there. Aruru tells him not to stomp on the frogs
with his big foot. It turns out he has something of a complex
about his foot, and he gets mad and attacks. Fortunately, he's not
too hard a boss.

After you beat him, he runs off. The frog king comes and gives
Aruru the jewel, as promised, saying that Sukiyapodes should calm
down soon. He wonders why he suddenly went crazy. A little while
ago, he saw Suketoudara Jr. and his friends. Perhaps they did
something to Sukiyapodes' Light Orb. He lets you keep the Ribbit
Boots as a memento of your meeting.

Go to Sukiyapodes' house, on the east side of the forest. You'll
be able to enter now. Sukiyapodes is fast asleep, but someone
calls out as you enter. At first, Aruru can't tell where the voice
is coming from, but eventually realizes it's coming from an orb on
Sukiyapodes' shelf. It's the Dark Orb. It asks Aruru to take it
back to the Forest of Darkness, where it belongs. Pick it up.

Once you have the Dark Orb, go back to the village. One of the
kids says she saw a strange, yellow creature on Lookout Mountain.
Go check it out. The creature is a vaguely rabbit-like thing with
a jewel in its forehead. Its name is Carbunkle. Carbunkle decides
he likes Aruru, so he will be her friend.

---2. NorthSouth Tunnel and Ruins village

Now that you can jump, you can go through the NorthSouth Tunnel.
On the way through, be sure to read the silver plate on the wall
to power-up your Fire spell. Don't worry about the yellow door for
now.

At the other end of the tunnel is a garden. If you try to pick a
flower, the fairies stop you. They claim the flowers are all
theirs, but will let you have one if you bring them a Light Drop.

Past the garden is Death Valley. Go over the bridges and through
the cave. Inside the cave is a plate containing the Hedon spell,
so don't miss it.

On the other side of the cave is Ruins Village. The village gets
its name from the neary ruins, said to be the tomb of the Elephant
King. Examine the statue of dancers and it will restore all your
HP and MP. The village has been beset by earthquakes recently, and
the townspeople are convinced it's because the Elephant King is
angry about them using the royal tomb as a tourist attraction. Go
to the far NE corner to find a cave behind the trees. There is a
plate with the Healing spell inside.

Go south to get to the ruins. As you arrive, Aruru is nearly mowed
down by Suketoudara Jr. They'd gone to the ruins, hoping to find
something valuable, but the search turned up nothing. Follow them
back to the village and look around some more. You'll find them
trying to mug one of the villagers, Kenichi, brother of Aruru's
friend, Lin. Aruru threatens to call the rest of the village, and
the gang leaves. Aruru and Lin get Kenichi into bed. Lin says that
Suketoudara Jr. took something from Kenichi's collection of
jewels, the Elephant King Bracelet, and asks Aruru to get it back
for them. Suketoudara Jr should be at his own house by now.

As it happens, his house is just north of Grandma's. Ride the
Momonga back to the Magic Kindergarten and go west to Suketoudara
Jr's house. He still has the bracelet. He complains that he hasn't
been able to sell it, and was thinking of just throwing it in the
river. Still, he's too mad to just give it to you, so he sics his
henchman, Minizombie on Aruru. Once you beat him, (he's easy, even
with Suketoudara throwing bombs at you), Suketoudara threatens to
get even on your mother and runs off, dropping the bracelet. Pick
the bracelet up. You can use it by pressing the Y button.

Go back to Aruru's house. The gang is there. They leave when Aruru
starts bugging them. Mom is okay, and just figured they were
Aruru's friends. She tells Aruru to go to bed, since it's late.

---1. Elephant King's Tomb

The next morning, go back to Ruins Village and talk to Kenichi. He
says that as thanks for beating Suketoudara Jr, he'll let you
borrow the bracelet until you graduate.

Go south from the village to the Elephant King ruins. Just as
Suketoudara complained about, there's not much here. However, the
floor in one of the rooms seems to be crumbling. Stand on the
cracks and use the Elephant King Bracelet. You'll fall through the
floor into the inner part of the tomb. The shiny things under the
elephant statues are teleporters. One of them leads to the tomb
exit, if you want to leave.

In order to get through the next room, you have to avoid the water
spewed by the elephant statues. To do this, go through the third
passage from the left. In the next room, go through the center
teleporter to get to a plate containing the spell Diacute, then
take the right one. You won't be able to open the blue door, yet,
so just ignore it for now.

When you get to the blue room, take the far left passage to avoid
getting hit by the water. Then take the center teleporter to the
next part of the tomb.

In the green room, the lucky passage is second from the left. Take
the right teleporter to get to a room with a switch. Flip the
switch to open the door you passed before. Go back through the
blue section to get there. Behind the door is a chest containing
the Elephant Bust.

Go back through the tomb and take the center teleporter in the
green section. The final warp is broken, but if you have the
Elephant Bust, you can fix it. Replace the statue's head and the
warp will work again.

Take the last warp. The hall leads to a room full of broken
statues. The Elephant King is there, and just as the residents of
Ruins Village imagined, he's angry at the destruction of his
statues. He attacks, blaming Aruru for it. Once you beat him,
debris falls from the ceiling. Among them is the second Secret
Jewel.  Once you leave the room, he slams the door on you,
demanding that you never return.

When you return to the village, the earthquakes seem to have
stopped. At the docks, there is now a ferry that can take you down
the river to the Wolf Village or to Grandma's house.

---4. Wolf Village and Dark Well

The Wolf Village is populated by werewolves. Their main industry
is Darkness Flowers, but they haven't been growing, lately. They
usually grow in the Forest of Darkness, but the place has been so
bright lately that they can't grow. Someone put the Light Orb
where the Darkness Orb was supposed to be, and now everything's
out of whack.

Before you leave the village, find the plate with the Ice Storm
level 2.

If you haven't already gotten the Darkness Orb from Sukiyapodes'
house in the Forest of Light, go get it now.

East of the village is the Forest of Darkness, and it seems
awfully bright. To the east of the forest, before you reach the
maze, is the Dark Well. Just after you enter, you're stopped by a
voice coming from the water. She introduces herself as Undine.
Aruru asks about the Secret Jewel. Undine says that if it's here,
it's probably been swallowed by the giant catfish that lives in
the tunnels underneath. First, she'll have to get the catfish out
of the water. Undine suggests throwing some sea cucumbers into the
water. The catfish will poke its head out of the water when it
comes to eat it. However, sea cucmbers only grows underwater.
Undine tells Aruru to open her mouth and gives her a pill that
lets her breathe underwater. She also warns that a lot of the sea
cucmbers are rotten, and the catfish will only want fresh ones.

Go through the cave and into the water. Don't worry about the
small hole in the wall, yet. You'll be able to get through that,
later. As you get deeper, you'll start to see sea cucmbers growing
on the walls. Pick them. If it's rotten, Aruru will just throw it
away. There is also a chest containing the Yellow Orb, an item
needed for a side quest.

Once you've found the fresh cucumber (there's only 1), go back to
the top level. Aruru throws the cucumber in. A wave comes and
pushes her back, but the Undine catches her. The catfish is
waiting at the surface of the water now. Go inside its mouth.

The Secret Jewel is just sitting there on the floor. Go pick it
up. When you do, Aruru is surrounded by tiny spiders, and a larger
queen one. The jewel was a fake, a trap set by the were-spider.
She has the real one. Fight her off. This is probably the first
boss that's actually hard enough to survive more than two rounds,
so be warned. Once she's beaten, the spiders drag her away, and
you get the real third Jewel.

---5. Rain Forest and Old Village

Exit the well and go south, deeper into the forest. From here, the
forest becomes a maze. Go straight south from the starting point
to get to the Dark Garden. As you heard before, the flowers
haven't bloomed, yet, due to the bright light.

Take the SE tunnel to get to the clearing where the Darkness Orb
goes. In one of the tunnels is a plate with the level 2 Diacute
spell. Elf-like creatures called Panotti live in the clearing.
Eith all the light, they've decided to have a party, and they all
dance. They think it's rude of Aruru not to dance when everyone
else is, so she joins in and dances until she passes out.

When she wakes up, the Panottis have left a present for her. Since
she was nice enough to come to their final party, they left her
one of their flutes. They say that with it, she can play with the
Harpies in Death Valley.

The Light Orb is on the pedestal in the middle of the clearing.
Take it off and put the Darkness Orb there in its place. The Orb
thanks her and goes to sleep.

Take the Light Orb back to Sukiyapodes' house in the Forest of
Light. Put the Light Orb on the shelf where you originally found
the Darkness Orb. When you do, Sukiyapodes wakes up. He says
someone ambushed him, knocked him out and stole the Light Orb.
After that, he doesn't remember anything. When he see you've
brought it back for him, he gives you a hammer. With it, you can
activate switches that have rusted.

Go north through the Frog Swamp. Now that you have the hammer, you
can get through the closed gate. Use it to open the gate. Go
through the Rain Forest.

At the other end of the Rain Forest if Old Village. It is
inhabited by monsters. The village elder tells you that strange
things are happening. Things have been disappearing, like the
vegetables he left on his table not 30 minutes ago. There also
seems to be too many people around, but he can't tell which one
isn't one of the real villagers. He asks Aruru to look around for
him. He'll give her a Secret Jewel if she finds out who the
imposter is.

Go talk to everyone. Aruru asks them where they were a half hour
ago:

NW house:
Ham: I was cleaning house. No one saw me, but I didn't take the
vegetables.
Marara: I was working in the garden. I was so busy, I didn't
notice if anyone saw me.

SW house:
Rig: I was in the village square, praying at the Puyo statue. I
didn't see anyone.
Dal: I was asleep in my bed. I don't know if anyone saw me.
Kril: I was talking with the village elder. Dal was asleep, so he
was the only witness.

SE house:
Hazu: I was just hanging out in my house. I was alone.

Elder's house:
Deha: I was taking a walk. I saw Rig and Marara, but they didn't
notice me.

Once you think you've figured out who the imposter is, talk to the
elder again. He'll call everyone. Talk to the one you think is the
imposter. If you're right, he'll reveal himself.

The imposter is really Skelton D, one of Suketoudara Jr's group.
He got bored and decided to make some trouble for the fun of it.

After you beat him, the elder gives you the Secret Jewel, as
promised. Talk to the other villagers to get a Turtle Heart,
Momonga Ticket, Kyakuryoku Herb, Mentama Herb, Nouten Herb and
Dragon Meat.

---6. Harpy Mountain

The Panottis said that you could play with the Harpies if you had
their flute. Try it out. Go to Death Valley, by the closed door.
As you pass, a harpy attacks and steals your stuff, including the
Secret Jewels.

Follow the Harpy through the door and go through the cave to Harpy
Mountain. Harpy mountain is a maze. With each level, there's a
chance the door you pick could warp you back to the beginning.

To get to the top: Take the far left, far right and 2nd from left
passages.

At the top of the mountain, you can see the shadows of the harpy
overhead, but they're too high to here Aruru calling. Play the
Panotti Flute and she'll come down. She's jealous that you
(apparently) think that flute is prettier than her song (and it
is- she's off-key!)

After you beat her, the harpy flies away, still holding the
jewels. She says she'll give them back if Aruru says she has a
pretty voice, but Aruru refuses, calling her off-key. She doesn't
give up, however. Humor her and compliment her singing. She won't
quite believe you mean it, but she gives the jewels back, anyway,
along with another Secret Jewel and some cookies.

---7. Satan-sama's Mansion and Dark Maze

Go back to the Forest of Darkness. This time, when you go to the
forest maze, take the northernmost passage first. Head south to
get to Satan-sama's mansion. Along the way, you'll find a chest
with the Green Orb and a plate with the level 2 Thunder spell.

In the basement of the mansion is what looks like a dungeon. The
only prisoner there is a boy name Devil-kun. He says he was put
there because he played too many tricks on Satan-sama. Aruru
offers to help him get out, but he insists he doesn't need any help.

In the rooms are plaques. Satan-sama seems to be a bit of a
narcissist, as they're all about him. You'll need them, since only
someone who knows about Satan-sama can meet him.

The facts:
His hair "shines like an emerald".
His eyes are red.
He's 100014 years old.
He's the most beautiful in the world.
He likes curry rice.
Carbunkle was his pet, and he loves him more than anything.
When Carbunkle is gone, he's too sad to even eat any curry rice.
Carbunkle used to live in the Ryla ruins with him.
His fanclub is looking for members.

At the farthest room, the fanclub president stops you and says
that only members of Satan-sama's fanclub are allowed in the
mansion. Aruru protests that there was no one at the door. The
president says they don't have enough people to assign guards
everywhere. If she wants to stay, Aruru will have to answer
questions. You should know the answers from the plaques on the
wall. Get them all right, and she'll let you join the fanclub.

Now Satan-sama himself wants to talk to Aruru. He's surprised that
a little kid would come all this way herself, and is impressed. He
invites her to a party. The dracocentaurs in the fanclub put on a
show with some Carbunkle-like puyopuyos. Aruru seems to think it's
interesting. When she leaves, he gives her a Secret Jewel as a
memento.

When Aruru leaves the mansion, Devil-kun bumps into her. Sure
enough, he's gotten out of his cell.

Go east through the forest of Darkness until you get to a clearing
with a Donpa-Unpa statue. The trees there lead to the Dark Maze.
You won't be able to see very far there. One of the monsters here,
the one that looks like a cross between a sheep and a radish, will
try to bribe you with a Momomo wine to let him go. There is a
small hole in the wall on the first floor. Make note of that for
later.

There are 9 stairs leading to level 1 and 3 leading to level 2. At
the bottom of the cave, you'll find a chest. Open it, and another
of Suketoudara's bunch, Nasgrave, is waiting inside. Beat him and
you'll get the Deep Forest Ribbon.

---8. Moon Maze

Leave the Forest of Darkness. Lin will be waiting for you near the
entrance to Wolf Village. She says that everyone in the Magic
Kindergarten has been turned to stone!

Go to the school. One of the custodians, a giant snail meets you
at the gate, pretty much repeating with Lin said. He wasn't
affected because he was taking a nap in one of the storerooms. He
says he heard a loud noise coming from the principal's office.

Go east through the school to the office. Everyone else you find
is now stone, but the principal seems to be fine. Aruru tries to
tell her about what happened, but she insists nothing is wrong and
that Aruru is imagining things. She sends Aruru into the Moon
Maze, saying she needs to practice. After she disappears, the
principal(?) comments that this body is nice and easy to control.
In the maze, Aruru wonders why she is acting so differently.

Step on the magic circles to go to different parts of the maze.
Keep track of what colors the rooms are and what's on the walls so
you don't get lost.

There is a plate that read "In this maze, there is 1 plate that
lies." near the beginning. Keep this in mind.

There are chests containing a Magic Crystal, Dragon Meat,
Fukushinzuke and Mentama Herb.

Keep taking the farthest teleporters, and you'll get to a light
blue room with stars on the walls. The smaller rooms here all have
plates in them with game advice (such as "take a 10-minute break
for every hour you play" :) Is that the lying plate?).

As you go through the maze, you'll go through rooms marked with
moons, stars, than suns. In one of the large sun rooms, you'll see
a plate that warns you not to go through the bottom left
transporter, as it leads to the beginning of the maze. This is the
lying plate. The teleporter actually leads to the end of the maze,
where the "principal" is waiting.

Once you beat him, Devil-kun appears. He had possessed the
principal, and is mad that Aruru ruined his game.

---9. Devil's Gate and the Dragon Temple

The next morning, Aruru wakes up in her bed. Her mother says that
the principal brought her here. She also says that the principal
had something he wanted to give her, but didn't say what. As Aruru
gets out of bed, there is a loud noise. Mother goes to see what
happened and says that the NorthSouth cave has crumbled. Aruru
decides to go check it out.

First, go talk to the principal. He gives you a Magic Dictionary.
With this you can read the gold plates.

Go to the NorthSouth cave. The guard there says that Suketoudara's
group blew up the Devil's Gate, and monsters have poured into the
cave. Go south through the cave, to the gate. On the way, check
the yellow door you saw before. Now that you have the Deep Forest
Ribbon, you can reach the switch to open it. Inside is a gold
plate containing the level 3 Thunder spell.

You find the gate open. Go through. In the cave is a plate
containing the Diacute spell, a gold plate containing Ice Storm,
and a plate containing Healing.

The bottom level is filled with steam. A tunnel from the main
cavern leads to the Bazaar, and a chest containing the Blue Orb.
The ferryman at the bazaar can take you to Ruins Village. One of
the things you can buy at the Bazaar is the Toy Elephant, which
will let you get into the small holes you've seen in some places.

Go east along the cave until you reach the Dragon Temple. In one
room of the temple of a plate containing Healing. The merchant,
Momomo, is also in the temple, looking for Lightning Bug eggs.
Aruru says she's also looking for shiny things. He says that the
dragon who owns the temple has a Secret Jewel. In order to get to
him, you'll have to knock down the wall. He'll do it for you if
you bring him a Lightning Bug egg.

According to a book in the library, Lightning Bugs mainly live in
the Dragon Tomb. The entrance is deeper in the cave. However, the
tomb is sealed, and no one is allowed to enter with the Dragon
Clan's permission, or else they risk the ire of Leviathan, the
dragon king. Elsewhere in the cave is a silver plate containing
the spell Levia.

Go back through the cave to the Bazaar. There is a dragon there.
His name is Kupukupu. Aruru tells him she wants to go to the
Dragon Tomb. He refuses at first, but Aruru suggests they do a
trade. Adults do it all the time, after all. She asks what he'd
want in exchange for helping her get inside the tomb. He says he
wants some flowers, really fancy, flashy ones.

The best place to get flowers is a garden. The fairy in the Light
Garden said she'll give you a flower if you bring her a Light
Drop. According to a book in the school library, Light Drops are
made from Mandrake leaves and Darkness Flowers. You can find
Darkness Flowers in the Dark Garden, near Wolf Village, after
replacing the Darkness Orb. A Mandrake can be found growing in the
school garden. The teacher warns you to have a Momomo Wine if you
decide to pick the Mandrake root. The Mandrake turned out to be an
animal, rather then a plant. Smelling the Momomo wine puts it in a
good mood, and it will give you one of its leaves. Once you have
both of these, take them to Penny, on the second floor of the
school and have her combine them to make a Light Drop. Go back to
the Light Garden and try to pick a flower. This time, the fairy
will give you a Bouquet in exchange for the Light Drop.

Bring the Bouquet to Kupukupu. Aruru gives him the flowers and he
goes to talk to the statues guarding the gate to the tomb. Go back
to the gate, and you'll find it open.

Suketoudara and Skelton T are inside. They've come to steal the
Lightning Bug eggs, too! Skelton T attacks (after taking a tea
break). Once you beat him, the punks leave and Aruru gets the
Lightning Bug Egg.

Go back to the Dragon Temple and give the egg to Momomo. He is
excited. Aruru asks what he's going to do with it. He says he's
going to sell it at the bazaar. He goes and breaks down the wall
in the upper room. Go through the hole he made to get to the
dragon.

Leviathan comes, but attacks. He is angry that you stole the
Lightning Bug Egg, and demands its return. Since you don't have
it, any more, the fight continues.

Once you win, Aruru asks about the Secret Jewel. Leviathan says he
hs one, but will only give it to you after you've returned the
Lightning Bug Egg to the tomb. Aruru agrees, since it seems she
did something she shouldn't have.

Momomo is gone. However, he did say he was going to sell the Egg
at the bazaar. Perhaps he is there. Go back to the bazaar and
check the souvenir shop. He's already sold the egg, and the shop
has it for sale for 4000 C. Buy it and take it back to the tomb.
Kupukupu is there. He says Leviathan got angry at him and made him
stand guard here. Aruru apologizes and puts the egg back on the
pedestal.

Go back to see Leviathan. He gives you the 7th Secret Jewel.

---10. Wizard's Mountain

Take a look at your map. Before, there were only 7 jewels marked.
Now, a new one has appeared- at your house. Go talk to your
mother. She says a letter arrived for you from Suketoudara Jr. He
challenges Aruru to a fight in the courtyard of the Magic School
the next day, and says he has something she wants. Aruru goes to
bed.

The next morning, go to the school. Suketoudara Jr and Aruru's
friends are all waiting. He's mad because she overslept and made
him wait. He attacks, and shows that he has the last of the Secret
Jewels. If Aruru wants it, she'll have to beat him.

Once she does, Suketoudara gives her the jewel and promises to go
straight from now on. He goes back to his house.

Now, all you have to do is take the jewels to Wizard's Mountain.
The mountain can be reached by going across the river from Wolf
Village.

A ways up the mountain, there is a Momonga station.

At the top of the mountain is the Sky Fairy. Normally, she'd be
the one who would grant Aruru's wish if she brought the eight
Secret Jewels, but now she has a problem. Her counterpart, the
Earth Fairy, is missing. The other said she was going to a garden
on the surface world and hasn't come back. The fairy asks you to
find her.

Go to the Dark Garden, near Wolf Village. As you enter, you hear
an Earth Fairy call for help. She's been captured by an owlbear.
Fight it off, and the fairy is able to return to the mountain.

Go back to the top of Wizard's Mountain and talk to the fairies.
The two merge into the Wizard and she makes a door appears. She
tells you to go inside and make a wish in front of the treasure
chest there. Aruru wishes for her heart's desire, a Graduation
Pass. Sure enough, one appears inside the chest.

Once outside, the fairies seem a little taken aback that she'd
wish for something so small (especially since you can only this
once. What'll she do when she wants to graduate high school?). The
Earth Fairy says that Aruru is just like the principal said. Aruru
is surprised that they know the principal. The Earth Fairy starts
to say something about the Graduation Pass and the letter the kids
all received, but the Sky Fairy stops her.

Go back to the school and talk to the principal. He starts to
congradulate Aruru, but before she can finish, Devil-kun busts
through the ceiling, looking for a rematch. He and Aruru argue for
a bit, then they fight. Once you beat him, he flies off, once
again promising revenge. The principal tells Aruru to go home and
get some rest because the Graduation Test is tomorrow.

---11. Graduation Test

The next morning, go to the school. The gate on the east side is
now open and the teacher is waiting there. As usual, she's late
and everyone is waiting on her. The principal explains the test.
Inside the tower are three magic orbs. Collect them all, and you
can graduate. Easy, right? Her friends cheer her on and she enters
the tower.

There is a store on the first floor that has all available healing
items.

The switches in the room behind the store control the walkway in
the first room. Press the switches so that all four colors are
lit. The colors above the switches indicate which colors it
toggles. Look at the hole in the ground behind you to see your progress.

The sign in the left room says to bring 2 magic orbs. You don't
have them yet, so neither of the switchese there move. You'll have
to come back here later. Go to the center room and flip the switch
there. You'll hear a loud noise from above.

Then go to the right room and up the stairs until you get to
another set of switches with shapes on them. The sign says to
press the one that is not like the others, and gives you a hint:
corners. Press the circle switch. You'll hear another loud noise.

The next puzzle has the kanji for "tree", "metal", "earth" and
"sun" (or "thursday", "friday", "saturday", "sunday"), and the
clue is "daytime sky". Press the "sun" switch, on the far right.

In the next puzzle, the clue is "handwriting". The correct switch
is the one with the "8".

In the next puzzle, the hint is "opening". The correct is switch
is the one with the "B".

On the next floor is the first two of the three orbs. Now that you
have two, go back to the first floor. The switches in the left
room determine which passage you enter.

Activating the left switch leads you to a 3D maze. Different
colors of wall indicate different levels. Pick this one only if
you really, really need to level-up or are feeling masochistic.
Activating the right switch leads you to a number maze (easiest to
keep a map of). Activating both leads you to a color maze. On the
first room, stay on one color or the door will close. On the
second, only walk on alternating colors (grey, dark green). On the
third, a pattern of three (light green, red, grey). On the fourth,
another pattern of three (dark green, grey, red).

All the mazes lead to the same place. Behind the giant Carbunkle
gate is the third orb. However, it's guarded. At first, Aruru
thinks it's just a statue, but it's actually a magician, here to
make sure only those who are worthy complete the Graduation Test.

But, Devil-kun interferes again, charging in for another rematch.
The magician by the orb argues with him for horning in, but Devil
decides that he'll just use the magician's power to defeat Aruru.
The magician tries to protest (he doesn't swing that way, you
see), but Devil-kun just wants his power, nothing else. The two
merge and he attacks. Once you beat him, Satan-sama comes. He had
followed Devil-kun here to bring him back to the mansion, and is
surprised that a human managed to beat him. He takes Devil-kun
back, saying he looks forward to seeing Aruru grow up to be a fine
magician.

Outside, Aruru's friends are waiting. They congratulate her and
decide to throw a party. Suddenly, Suketoudara Jr shows up. But
he's not here to fight, this time. He's done some thinking, and
wants to be one of Aruru's henchmen. Aruru isn't too sure about
the idea, but he cries and guilts her into accepting.

And the credits roll... (and I could absolutely SWEAR I've heard
this exact same song used in another SFC game... anyone know which
one?)

And finally, we get to see Aruru's graduation picture.

Congratulations! You have finished Hanamaru!
