If you’re looking for the answer to a specific question, and don’t want
to risk spoiling the rest of the game, look in the “Frequently Asked
Questions” section first to see it’s there.

For the purposes of this document, “north” = upper right, “east” = lower
right, “west” = upper left, and “south” = lower left.

In equipment lists, “L” means Lady can use it, “Y” means Yoshio can use
it, and “C” means Cocks can use it.

In spell lists, a 0 in the “level gained” column means they know the
spell when they first join the party.

If an item listed in the regular lists is listed as obtained in the
casino, that means it’s gotten from the Capri Catcher crane machine, not
by trading in coins.

----I. Game overview

--1. The story
There once was a very rich family who had a daughter named Lady. They
loved Lady very much, but she was something of a delinquent. Where Lady
went, destruction followed. In order to curb her destructive tendancies,
the family locked Lady up in a mansion, and left two servants- a cook
and a gardner- to watch her. However, one day Lady heard of a place
called Deathland Island, which was said to have a huge, ancient
treasure. Determined to find this treasure, Lady made her escape...

--2. The characters

A. Lady
The heroine of the game. A spike-heeled, leather-miniskirt-wearing,
whip-weilding bad-ass. She likes money and adventure and will do
whatever she has to to get them. She can use either whips or heeled
boots as weapons.

B. Yoshio
The estate’s gardner, assigned to keep Lady out of trouble. He’s a kind,
grandfatherly old man, who doesn’t let Lady get him riled. He casts
attack spells and can use either shovels or rods as weapons.

C. Cocks
Yeah, that’s really his name (It’s spelled that way in the instruction
booklet, even). I snicker every time I hear it, too. If the snickering
gets in the way, pretend it’s Cooks, as that’s probably what it was
supposed to be. Anyway, Cocks is the cook. There are rumors going around
about his... *ahem*... orientation, but nothing is known for sure. Cocks
cast healing and defense spells and can use knives or rods for weapons.

----V. Frequently asked questions

Q. Should I use a whip or boots?
A. Boots do more damage, but whips have longer range. Pick whichever one
you like best.

Q. Where is the Shining Ball (Hikaru Biidama) collector?
A. In the NE corner of Deathvegas. He appears after you get through
Deathvalley Mine.

Q. How do I swim underwater without losing all my LP?
A. If you can take a breath, you’ll gradually regain your LP. Look for
grates in the wall with air bubble coming out of them, and stand by them
to regain LP.

Q. How do I get past the bookshelves in Baron Castle?
A. You have to read to books in the right order. The order is 6, 4, 8,
1, 7, 5, 3, 2 (1 being the closest to the entrance, 8 being the farthest)

Q. How do I get past the room with the pipes in the sewer?
A. Use the extra pieces of pipe to make an unbroken pipleline from the
reservoir to the hole in the floor, then flip the switch to empty the reservoir.

Q. How do I get into the buildings in the Monster Village?
A. Go back to Deathvegas and get a “Monster’s X” from the safe in
Hebley’s office. Using it will turn you into a tomaton, allowing you to
get through the doors.

Q. How do I get the chest high up on the ledge in the Volcano?
A. Go back to the room with the big hole. Go to the western edge, where
the lava touches the edge of the hole. Drop down from there.

Q. The machine in Snow Valley froze me into a block of ice. How do I get out?
A. Push the lever to open the door to the next room, then run into the
large hammer to break the ice.

Q. How do I get into Ramus Tower?
A. Go to the Port town and get the Ramus statue from the museum. That
will open the door.

Q. How do I get past the elevators in Ramus Tower?
A. Put both elevators on the first floor, drop onto them from the
second, and dash across.

Q. How do I get up the cliff on Baron Rock?
A. Go to Rivertown and talk to Bob (in the basement of the warehouse),
then to Deathvegas and talk to Dodohei (in the building with the safe).
Dodohei will give you the Rocket Shoes, which you use to get up the cliff.

Q. There’s a spiral staircase in Baron Rock with boulders rolling down
it. Some of the steps are too high to climb. How do I get past?
A: Strike the boulders in front of the steps, and you can get past by
climbing the rubble onto the next step.

Q: How do I get past the room in Baron Rock with the rolling boulders
and blue plates?
A: Start the boulders rolling by pressing the switch, then wait by the
first plate. Wait until the first boulder hits the small wall and starts
rolling toward you, then jump on the plate and wait for the boulder to
pass over you. Then just follow it until it lands on the second plate
and opens the door.

Q: What do I do in the room in Angel Rock with the six dragon heads and
letters on the floor?
A: Put the six dragon head statues on the letters that spell out the
ancient name of King Baron. If you have the Ancient Book from the Port
Town, or the Ancient Map, they will show you what it is. Remember that
you’re showing the name to the Ganubis statue in the back, not to
yourself. The “bottom” of the letters is facing the statue, not the
door. Essentially, you have to read them upside-down. After placing the
six heads, put the Black Ball on the pedestal.

Q: Where is the Black Ball?
A: You can buy it at a store in Deathvegas after you get through Snow Valley.

Q: How do I get past the yellow door after the room with the tubes in
Baron Tower?
A: Jump into one of the empty tubes, and it will shrink you. Then go
through the small hole near the door.

----VI. Walkthrough

--1. Intro
Nothing to do here but watch...
Yoshio is trying to get Lady to study. Surprisingly, she’s cooperating.
Yoshio is suspicious and thinks she must have another plan to escape. He
searches the room, looking for a hidden bomb or other device. He doesn’t
find anything, so he goes on to the next subject- history. He pulls a
book about Deathland Island from the bookshelf and leaves Lady to read
it. Lady learns that Deathland Island is supposed to hide an enormous
treasure, so she decides to find it. However the book is written in an
ancient language that she can’t read. Nevertheless, she won’t let that
stand in her way. She breaks through the wall and runs for the door.
However, Yoshio and Cocks are waiting for her. Yoshio tries to use
fireballs to stop her, but she dodges them, and he ends up burning the
house down instead. With Yoshio and Cocks trapped in the wreckage of the
house, Lady makes her escape.

--2. Arrival on Deathland Island

You’ll start the game on the docks, with nothing but the clothes on your
back and a Medicine. At the end of the dock, you’ll find Barbo, who had
come to Deathland Island to hunt for treasure. He asks you if you’ve
come treasure-hunting, too. Answer yes. Now that he has competition,
Barbo decides to get a move on, and will get out of your way.
Talk to the people and you’ll find out this is a busy place. Many
people- scholars, treasure hunters, and everything in between- come to
Deathland Island looking for remnants of the past. One old man who will
tell you the story the Monster King, King Baron. King Baron ruled
Deathland Island a long time ago. He was a genius scientist who
experimented with m any things. He even used his fellow monsters as test
subjects. It’s said that one of his experiments led to an amazing
discovery. However, the old man won’t tell you what it is. He tells you
to go to the museum and ask the curator about the legend.

Go to the souvenir shop (far NE corner) and buy an Ancient Book. It will
tell you a little more of the story.

Check a pot in the Souvenir shop to find an Antidote.

--3. Getting a Visa

In order to go farther into the island, you’ll need a Visa. They don’t
let just *anyone* into Deathland Island. They want to make sure you can
handle the monsters first. Go through the door in the north end of town,
and talk to the woman behind the counter to get into the testing arena.

In order to get past the crevice (you can’t jump in this game), you’ll
need to dash. Dashing will let you run over small holes. Go far enough
back to give yourself a good running start and press the B button.
You’ll run right over the crevice. Go through the door in the northern
wall to the next room.

In the next room, you’ll encounter monsters for the first time. It’s
just Tomatons, though, so they’re not difficult. Don’t worry about the
treasure chest you’ll see on the other side of the fence. You’ll be able
to get to it later on. The exit is in the south-west.

Go inside the next door, and you’ll see a man carrying a block. To pick
up a block, stand next to it and push the A button. To put it down, push
the A button again. Put the block down next to the ledge and you’ll be
able to climb onto it and get to the stairs.

In the room below, you’ll see several doors, and square tiles on the
floor. The square tiles are switches to open the doors. If something is
on top of them, the door will stay open. To get through the doors, pick
up the a block and drop them on the switches. If you’re up for a
challenge, try to get the guy pacing in the second room to step on the
switch, using the blocks as steps.

The next room is a maze. If you step on the spikes, you’ll take damage,
so watch your step.

In the next room, you’ll need the block in the center and the crate in
the NE corner to get to the top of the ledge. Use the block to get to
the ledge with the crate. Pick up the crate and put it down next to the
one of the lower ledges near the wall. Don’t worry if you get too close
in put the crate on the ledge instead. You can pick it up again by
standing next to the ledge and pressing the A button. Then pick up the
block and put in down next to the crate. Now you have a makeshift stairway.

In the next room, you have to walk across the ledge without getting
knocked off by the bumpers. The bumpers don’t do any damage if they hit
you, but you will have to start over. Drop down the holf on the other
side of the room to get to the museum.

Talk to the man behind the desk and he’ll give you a Visa. Walk around
and take a look at the exhibits- a giant Tomaton fossil, an old Magic
Water, an antique Power Charge, a Ramus Statue. You’ll also find Barbo
(who’s decided he’s now your rival), waiting to watch the film. Talk to
the old man behind the desk near the screen and take a seat in the front
row, and the film will begin.

The film talks about King Baron. King Baron ruled the monsters of
Deathland Island, and used them as guinea pigs for his experiments. Not
even the monsters dared to oppose him, so the experiments continued on.
Eventually, he developed a machine that turned ordinary monsters into
giants, which fed on weaker monsters. No one quite knows how, but King
Baron was defeated and the machine vanished. An archaeologist named
Sajik had gone to try to find the machine, but hasn’t been heard from since.

After the movide ends, a ladder falls from the ceiling, allowing you to
climb back to the testing arena.

--4. Rivertown

Now that you have a Visa, you can leave the Port. Give the Visa to the
man by the exit, and he’ll open the gate for you. Buy some Medicine and
Antidotes at the item shop and save your game at the church before you leave.

In the second area after leaving Port Town, you’ll find a path through
the trees in the SE corner, leading to an exit. This leads to an area of
the testing arena, where you’ll be able to get the treasure chest you
saw earlier (it’s 50 Y). The man standing by it gives you a hint about
fighting- holding down the A button lets you build up power and do
special moves.
There’s another path with some hidden steps just north of the exit. It
leads to the ledge containing a treasure chest. The chest has a Spring.
In the NW corner of the area is a cave containing a Antidote and a Life
Fountain (step on the blue heart-shaped tile and all your LP will be restored).

Rivertown is the largest city on Deathland Island. There are a lot of
people to talk to and places to shop. Many of the people have come to
see Baron Castle, which is just north of Rivertown. Baron Castle is said
to be full of traps and strange machines, so most won’t go near it. Most
of those who go there end up dead, as evidenced by the quickly-growing
cemetary on the SW corner of town. A man in the pub tells you of a
person he’s heard of who collects Shining Balls. If you give this
collector Shining Balls, he’ll give you good stuff in exchange. The man
doesn’t tell you where the collector is, though.

You’ll also find a man named Bob (in a house on the west side of town),
who sells information about Deathland Island. If you pay him 50 Y, he’ll
tell you about a lake in the northern part of the island that supposedly
holds a great treasure. No one knows what the treasure is, though. To
get to the lake, you’ll have to get through Baron Castle. Bob will also
give you a China Pad, because he thinks you’re cute, and he doesn’t want
such a cutey to get hurt in Baron Castle.

In the center of town is a warehouse run by Meg, the wife of Sajik, the
missing Archaeologist. You can store excess items and money there. Don’t
worry about the blocked stairs just yet. You’ll be able to get through later.

There is a treasure chest with 70 Y near the eastern wall.

--5. Baron Castle

Go north from Rivertown to find Baron Castle. Be sure you have some
Antidotes before you go, because the Rotten Tomatons you’ll run into can
poison you.

Upon arriving in town, you run into your self-proclaimed rival, Barbo.
He accuses you of following him, the gloats about being ahead of you.

There are even more treasure hunters here than in Rivertown. However,
most of them seem more like tourists then treasure hunters. There are
rumors that someone saw giant monsters in the castle, and it seems to
have scared everyone off.
In the NW corner, there’s a photographer taking pictures for sounvenirs.
Talk to the photographer and stand behind the fake adventurer picture,
and he’ll take your picture, too.
In the SW corner, there’s a hot spring. Go for a swim! It’ll restore all
your LP.
A ticket to the castle will cost you 50 Y, but you can enter as many
times as you want once you have one.

Once you enter the castle, give your ticket to the man behind the desk.
As a special bonus, he lets you ride the trolley through the castle. As
you go, take note of any traps or other strange things you see so you
can investigate them later. First, you ride by corridors with fire
traps, then the “guest quarters” (jail cells). The old man claims
they’re a lot of fun. Yeaaaaah, sure. Voices crying for help, strange
noises from under the floor, loads of fun! But at least there’s the
massive winecellar to take the edge off it :).

After getting off the trolley, talk to the old man again, and he’ll open
the door.

In the first room, you’ll find walls lined with bookshelves. Lady isn’t
too keen on reading, so she can’t make heads or tails out of most of them.

After going up the stairs, you’ll come to a garden. Explore the hedge
maze to find a Medicine. Climb down the ladder near to entrance to get
under the hedges. Feel the way around the maze until the get to a
dead-end. The Bebibaron is waiting there. Defeat him, and the path will
open. You’ll also get a pair of Hedge Clippers. Go to where the
Bebibaron was standing and use the Hedge Clippers. Make your way through
the hedge (don’t forget to get the Spring from the treasure chest). Near
the end, you’ll see the Bebibaron again. He’ll run away. Use where he
goes as a clue to finding the right path to the door.

Once inside, you’ll find a chest containing 20 Y, and a blue book that
you can use to save the game. In the center of the room is a statue of
Babibaron, with a hole where one of the eyes should be.

In the next room, you’ll find three doors. The red and blue ones are
locked. The green one is the only one you can go through.

On the other side of the green door is the library. It’s a maze of
bookshelves. One of the shelves has a gap in it. The shelf has the
picture-books the monsters like to read (The Bebibarons aren’t much
better at reading than Lady :)), but volume 4 is missing. Go through the
maze to find the book, and put it back where it belongs. The bookshelves
will move, and you’ll be able to get through.

Behind the bookshelves is a chest containing a Medicine, and a very
confused Bebibaron. He’s trying to remember a story about a character
named Bebikichi, but he can only remember the first couple of lines. The
shelves to the west have eight picture books, each with a line marked.
If you read off the marked lines in the right order, he’ll open the
passage for you. If you can read Japanese, the lines the Bebibaron
remembers will tell the first line, and give you a clue to the second.
The order to read them is: 6, 4, 8, 1, 7, 5, 3, 2 (1 being the closest
to the entrance, 8 being the farthest). In case you were wondering, the
passage says “There once was a Bebibaron named Bebikichi. Bebikichi
wasn’t too smart, and often hurt people, thinking they were rocks in his
cave. Everyone be careful of him.”
The passage leads to a spiralling hallway. Near the top is another
bookshelf with a gap. There’s a switch in the gap. Press it and a ladder
will appear. Climb the ladder to get the blue key. Use it to unlock the
blue door.

Behind the blue door is the hallway with fireballs that you saw from the
trolley. If the fireballs hit you, they’ll do damage. You’ll Barbo
hiding from the fireballs. He’s pyrophobic, poor guy. His legs are
shaking so much he can’t move. There’s a red button near the exit that
stops the fireballs. If you go check on Barbo after pressing it, he’ll
say that his legs are so tired from shaking that he still can’t move.
Some rival! There’s a chest containing a Medicine at the western end of
the room.

Go down the stairs and you’ll find the dungeon. Talk to the prisoners
through the bars. One of them will give you a Medicine. USE IT! In one
of the cells, you’ll find a chest containing the Red Key, but the cell
door will shut as soon as you get it. Talk to the Bebibaron by the door,
and he’ll give you a chance to escape. If you can survive the ordeal,
you’ll be set free.

For the first test, you have to choose between three chairs. Pick the
wrong one and you’ll get shocked. The farth north one is the safe one.
For the second, you have to dodge fireballs. They’ll do 1 point of
damage if they hit you. However, they won’t kill you. If you only have 1
LP left, they won’t do any damage at all.
After finished the second test, go talk to the Bebibaron again. He’ll
give your Medicine back and open the door to the third test.
For the third test, you stand in a room where random tiles get red-hot.
Avoid the tiles, and you’ll pass.
For the fourth test, you have to carry a heavy block around a course
three times. The Bebibaron will lt you through after you pass him the
third time.
For the fifth test, walking timebombs will drop from above. You have to
throw 5 of them past the yellow line on the floor before they explode.
After finishing the fifth test, talk to the first Bebibaron again and
he’ll let you out of the dungeon. Now go back to the red door and use
the red key.

The winecellar is behind the red door. You’ll find some water in one of
the barrels. Drink all the water you can, and the barrel will get light
enough to move. However, it appears there was a little more than water
in that barrel, as you won’t be able to move too well until you get out
of the room.

In the next room, walk on top of the wire cage until you get to the
elevator. Use the elevator to get down.

Now you find yourself in the garden again. Talk to the old man through
the first hole in the fence and you can buy Medicine and Antidote. The
man in the second hole in the fence will save your game. Go down the
stairs near the second and follow the hedge to the door.

Next you come to the a waterway. You’ll see some treasure chests in the
next room. You’ll need to use the block in the NE corner to get to them.
Be careful, though. There are invisible holes in the floor. If you step
in one, you’ll fall into a room infested with zombies. Don’t worry,
they’re harmless.

In the last room, you’ll find five treasure chests. The four on the
sides contain a Charging Gum, a Medicine, 80 Y and an Antidote. You can
get these without a block. The get the fifth, you’ll have to knock the
loose brick down from the wall next to it. Dash at wall and ram it a few
times and the brick will fall. You’ll find Baron’s Eye in the chest.

After you get Baron’s Eye, a passage will open to your left. It leads
back to the first room, with the Bebibaron statue. Put the Baron’s Eye
back in the Bebibaron statue, and you’ll get lifted to the second floor.
If you want to get back to the first floor, there’s a passage in the
bookshelf to the west.

There are two paths the choose from.
The first door leads to a hall where you have to dodge rolling boulders.
Go down the stairs in the second room to find a chest containing a
Chickle Gum. The floor in the second room is invisible. Use the rocks by
the door to test the floor before walking on it (if you put the rock
down and it doesn’t fall, you can walk there).
The second door leads to a series of rooms where you fight a series of
Bebibarons (Bebisuke, Bebihei and Bebita).
Both doors eventually lead to the same room. and you can do both if you want.

After climbing the stairs, you find yourself in Jumbo Bebibaron’s
(a.k.a. J.B.) throne room. This must be the giant monster you heard
about. A squad of Bebibarons is making their report. They’ve come from
the mine in Deathvalley, where they seem to have found something. If you
step on carpet in front of them, a trap door will open, and you’ll fall
into the dungeon, where you’ll face the first boss monster of the game,
J.B.’s Pet.

To beat J.B.’s Pet, attack it from the side. If you try to attack from
the same place twice, it’ll hit with a charge attack. Hit it once, them
move to the other side and attack from there, etc, etc. If you’re at
least level 7, it’s not a hard boss.

After beating J.B.’s pet, go to the corner of the room to find a Shining
Ball. Then go through the door to the garage. There are several large
cans of... whatever... stored here. Get on the trolley and it’ll take
you past the J.B.’s throne room. You hear the guards talking about how
things are so much more fun since J.B. appeared. Soon they’ll be able to
eat human meat every day. However, that would mean reawakening some
ancient machine, and they’re not sure they’ll be able to do it without
humans getting in the way.

After getting off the trolley, go to the other side of the room and get
the Leather Suit from the chest, before following Bebibarons.

Jump down the hole and go through the door, and you’re outside again.
There’s a city of sorts here, populated by people captured by the
Bebibarons. The people here are used as slave lobar in the mine in
Deathvalley, where J.B. is apparently searching for some ancient relic.
The old man at the item shop tells you the only way the go north is
through the sewers, and gives you the Sewer Key. Another man tells you
what was in the huge cans- people! BEBIGREEN IS MADE FROM PEOPLE!
(sorry...) Bebibarons eat people, so J.B. went and canned some. Ick.
On the other side of the fence, you’ll find Barbo again. He begs you for
a Medicine. Give him one. He promises to return to the favor, and leaves.
Check a chest at the inn for a Shining Ball.

--6. Sewer

The first rooms in the sewer are pretty straightforward. The first
puzzle you come to is in a room with pipes all across the ground.
There’s a switch in the southern part of the room that turns the water
on. You need to use the extra pipe pieces to fill in the holes so that
the water can get from the reservoir in the south to the hole in the NE
corner. There are 4 movable pieces of pipe- a straight north/south
piece, a south/west corner, a south/east corner and north/west corner.
The first three are sitting in the SE corner. The fourth is in the NW
corner. Put the south/west corner in the first opening after the switch.
Follow the pipeline, and put the north/south piece in the next opening,
and the south/east corner in the next one. You don’t need the north/west
one. There may be several solutions to this, but this is the one I
found. After laying all the pipe pieces, press the switch. The water
will flow into the hole, and the gate to the reservoir will open.
Before you go, get the Lady Watch out of the chest behind the reservoir.

Jump into the water and swim through the sewer. The green slime floating
in the water, and the spikes sticking out of the walls will do damage if
you touch them. Next you’ll come to a room will several large
whirlpools. If you get caught in a whirlpool, it’ll take you back to the
waterfall a few rooms back, so try to stay near the wall.

After the whirlpool room, you’ll fall down a large waterfall and land in
a rooom with a wall of spikes. Go through the door to the south. You’ll
find Sajik’s Letter in the hall. The letter tells how Sajik found a
giant Tomaton fossil in the Deathvalley mine. After bringing it back, he
returned to Deathvalley to see if there were any more, and wonders if
they have anything to do with King Baron. At the other end of the hall
is a passage to the town outside Baron Castle.

Leave Baron and go back to Rivertown. Give Sajik’s letter to Meg. She’s
overjoyed to know that her husband is still alive and gives you a China
Hat in gratitude.

Now go back to Baron Castle’s sewer, to the room with the moving spikes.
Dodge the spikes by going the hole between the second and third block,
and go through the door to the east. It leads to the sewer control room.
Gustav, the sewer operator, will sound an alarm when he sees you. Defeat
Gustav and stop the alarm. The gate  to the east will open. Climb the
ladder and get the Medicine from the chest on the ledge.

You’ll come to a room with a tower in the middle of a pool of water.
Check behind the tower for a chest containing a Chocolate Bar.

Go into the tower and jump into the water. While swimming underwater,
you’ll gradually lose LP until you can take a breath. Look for grates
along the wall with air bubbles coming from them. There you can breathe,
and restore your LP.
In the first underwater room, you see a man holding up a large piece of
pipe. It’s easier to lift things underwater, so you can lift heavier
objects, like the pipe.

You’ll eventually come to a room with turtles swimming in a circle. To
get to the door, use the turtles as stepping stones to get from one
ledge to the next. If you fall off, you’ll have to start over, and
you’ll probably take damage from you spiked balls on the ground below.
There are no grates here, so you’ll need to be fast.

Next, you’ll come to a room with several grates by small ledges. Restore
your LP at one of the grates, then jump down. There’s a door at the NE
corner which you can get to if you jump off the right ledges. You won’t
miss anything if you don’t make it there, though. It’s just a shortcut.

At the end of the sewer, you’ll fight the Big Octopus. It attacks with
its tentacle, and shoots gas that will blind you if it hits you. It’s
movement pattern is similar to J.B.’s Pet, but it’s tentacle attack have
longer range. Try to be at least at level 18 before you face it.

After defeating the Big Octopus, move the pipes at the far end of the
room out of the way to find a door.

--7. Deathvalley

When you come out of the sewer, you’ll be in Deathvalley. A little
farther south, you’ll find the village of Deathvegas. The people there
are miners, and they’re loyal to J.B. Most of people are convicts, and
they’re there because it beats being in jail. The village has plenty of
wine and food and bunny-girls, so as far as anyone is concerned, it’s
paradise. There’s even a casino, but it’s not open, yet.
However, if you go in the bar, you’ll see the “bunny-girl” is just a
mannequin named Lill. Oddly enough, she still has fans. The miners all
kiss Lill for good luck. Go figure. At least she’s not a blow-up doll...
The guy in charge is called Hebley, and his office is on the west end of
town. He assumes you’re a new recruit, and gives you a ticket for the
cable car leading to the mine.
Check a barrel in Hebley’s office for a Live Again.
A chest in the inn has the #19.

Go through the exit to the east to get to the cable car station. Talk to
the men blocking the entrance and they’ll let you in. There’s also a
passage through the trees on the far west side, if you want to get in
without talking to them. There’s an item store where you stock up on
supplies and buy a Pennant as a souvenir. When you’re finished stocking
up, go inside the larger building and give the Cable Car Ticket to the
monster standing by the cable car. Get inside the cable car and ride it
into the mountains. Follow the mountain path to the mine.

When you get to the mine, you’ll see a maze of train tracks. Upon
entering the mine, you meet J.B. He still remembers you from before, and
doesn’t want to you getting in his way. He has one of his henchmen throw
you in a cell.

In the cell, you find.... Yoshio! He’s trying to dig his way out with
his garden shovel. Talk to him and he’ll scold you for running away. He
used up most of his magic putting out the fire at the house, so he was
quickly captured when he came to find Lady. Cocks is somewhere in the
mine, too. Yoshio joins the party.

Check the wall where Yoshio was digging, and you’ll find he very nearly
dug through. Just a little push is all it needs. Dash at the wall a few
times to break through. As you walk behind the wall, you’ll hear two of
J.B.’s henchmen talking. J.B. has been very happy lately. Apparently,
he’s found the thing he needed to awaken some ancient machine. The
henchmen don’t know much about the machine (except that they can’t eat
it), but they hear that they can use it to grow large like J.B.

In the next room, you see Cocks being put into a train car and sent into
the mine. Keep going along the wooden walkway and you’ll find a room
with a save book, and stairs leading down to where you saw Cocks. In the
SE corner if the room is a Life Fountain. The sign on the wall has
directions for driving the train cars. Press the B button to brake, but
don’t hold it down too long or the brakes will overheat and you won’t be
able to use them for a while. Use the directional button to change direction.

Get into the car and you’ll start down the tracks. You’ll eventually get
stuck in a loop. To get past the loops, you need to steer the car to the
yellow jump ramps. Hitting a barricade will make you change direction.
Hitting a rock will break the car.

When you get to the next room, you’ll hit a rock. There’s a Chocolate
Bar near some logs by the west wall. To get over the walls in this room,
get in the train car and jump over them. After jumping over the first
wall, you’ll find a Stone Shield by the west wall. Lady can’t use it, so
give it to Yoshio.

In the next room, look for the Cobra Scoop among the shovels hanging on
the wall. It’s near the SW corner, and looks slightly different from the
others. It raises Yoshio’s attack by 24 (compared to the 2 that his
garden scoop has), so don’t miss it.

Next, you’ll ride the car again. It’ll take you the maze of tracks
outside. After losing the car, walk along the tracks to find a doorway
in the north wall. Get into the train car. Turn south the get out the
the room. Once on the big loop, you’ll need to the west, then quickly
turn north. Turn south after passing waterfall, then south again before
hitting the jump ramp. Turn north to get inside the waterfall. If you
make a mistake, you’ll end up back in the big loop.

Once inside the waterfall, you’ll lose the car. You’ll find another on
top of some stairs to the west. It’ll take you to a room with two cars
to choose from. The car facing west will take you back to the room you
just left. Ride the north car until it hits a rock, then look for a door
to the south to find another car. Keep riding the cars until you get
outside. After riding the first car outside (you’ll pass a treasure
chest. Keep an eye on which tracks you ride on, so you’ll know how to
get back to it.), walk along the tracks. You’ll find a man who tells you
about the monsters temple beneath the mine, and how the monsters are
gathering there. There is a Magic Water in the cave behind him. To get
the treasure chest you passed before, drop onto the tracks below, and
walk into the cave. It contains a Shining Ball.

The car in the cave with the Magic Water will take you to an underground
village. One of the men in the village will tell you about the monster
village he saw. The doors on the houses will only let monsters in.
Humans couldn’t get in at all. In the item store, you’ll find Barbo,
disguised as a miner. After you gave him the medicine, he came to find
you. He’ll give you a Renoboots as a thankyou. When you’re done in the
village, take the exit to the west.

After riding the car, you’ll find a cage with a hole in the bars.
There’s a chest containing a Charging Gum behind it. Climb the hidden
ladder west of the bars and make your way to the exit to the north.

Ride the car to the monster temple. At the end of a long flight of
stairs, you’ll find a crowd on zombies, with J.B. and Cocks standing on
a platform. J.B. announces that the time for their rebirth has come.
They will make themselves grow large and powerful, so that no human can
stop them. To celebrate this achievement, he’s arranged a show. He
orders Cocks to open the box standing in front of them. Cocks hesitates,
so J.B. knocks him out. J.B.’s henchman, Mogukichi blasts the box open,
revealing a stone tablet. J.B. reads the tablet, and leaves, saying
there’s something he has to do. Mogukichi leaves through the trap door
in the floor, closing ot after him.

When this is over, make our way through the crowd of monsters and onto
the platform. Talk to Cocks and he’ll join the party. The tablet is
written in ancient characters that Lady can’t read, but Yoshio can...
sort of. The tablet reads: “...and so the machine is sealed... when it
must move again, give my servant Ganubis the white ball and show my
name... Thus will the machine be brought to life...... But if you give
it the black ball, the machine will never awaken again...”

Go down the long flight of stairs to find a room filled with cans. A man
called Dodohei jumps out at you. He heard the monsters talking and
realized they’ve all been tricked. The monsters plan to put all the
people in the village in these cans, and are building a secret base
somewhere near the mine. There’s a save book in the corner of the room.

In the room, you’ll come to a special train car. It steers and brakes
like the regular cars, but it can also shoot fireballs. Push the A
button to shoot.

Now you have to fight Mogukichi. To beat Mogukichi, shoot fireballs at
his train car as you ride around the track. Use the brake to avoid his fireballs.

After beating Mogukichi, ride the train car out of the mine, then to the
next mountain. When you get off, there will be an earthquake. The next
train car isn’t running right now, so you’ll have to take the exit south.

--7. Monster village

You’ve arrived in Monster Village. In the town square is a giant gold
statue of J.B., proclaiming him King Baron’s successor. To the south of
the statue, there’s a blue monster with his foot stuck in the lava. Talk
to him and get a Spring. You won’t be able to get into any of the
buildings, so use the Spring to go back to Deathvegas. You can get as
many Springs as you want from the monster.

When you get to Deathvegas, you’ll see a Tomaton there. The Tomaton
turns out to be one of the miners. They found an item called a
“Monster’s X” in Hebley’s office that turns people into monsters. Hebley
was a monster himself, and had used the Monster’s X to disguise himself
as a human.

Go to Hebley’s office. Barbo and Dodohei are there. They want to help
defeat J.B. and avenge their friends who were turned into canned monster
food. They’ve gotten all the usable weapons from the mine and put them
in the weapon store (the “Gallery 2” store that didn’t have anything to
sell before going to the mine). The inventory changes over time, so come
back often to check it out. Search the safe to get a Monster’s X. You
can get as many of them as you need.

Go to the bar and talk to people there. Someone’s stolen the bunny girl!
Not to worry, though. He can’t get far carrying that giant thing. The
thief is hiding in the NE corner of town, behind the shop. Go there and
get Lill back. The thief turns out to be the Shining Ball collector. As
an apology, he offers to trade you stuff for the Shining Balls you’ve
collected. His inventory changes over time. See the list above for what
he has. Give Lill to the guy at the bar and he’ll give you a Power Charge.

The Casino is open now. Buy Coins at the desk near the door. Use the
coins to play games, and trade the coins you win for prizes.
The games:
Slot Machine: Put coins in and spin the wheel. If the right pattern
comes up, you’ll win. It’s all a matter of luck.
Capri Catcher: A crane game. Move the crane to try and pick up a prize.
Use the Y button to move the crane north and the A button to move it
west. Once you finish moving in a direction, you can’t move that way
anymore. The prizes change occasionally. You can sometimes find good
equipment here, so keep trying!

Buy a spring and use it to get back to the Monster village. Use the
Monster’s X and you’ll all turn into Tomatons. Now you can get into the
houses. You’ll find out the volcano nearby has just erupted. The mayor
of the village, Gemuko, was trapped in the mountain when it happened.
J.B. had come to the village looking for some kind of ball. Some miners
in Snow Valley had found a ball, but the train car leading there is
blocked by the lava.

Go into the house in the SW corner and talk to the monsters at the
table. They’ll assume you want to try to rescue Gemuko, and they’ll let
you through. The Fire by the door tells you that you’ll need to repair
the volcano control machine to stop the eruption. It must have lost some
of its bolts, so if you put the bolts back, it’ll be fixed. Go through
the exit to the south. Near the door, you’ll find the body of a monster
trapped by the lava. Search it to find a Monster’s X. You can get as
many as you need from here. A little farther down, there’s a chest
containing a Body Coat.

--8. Volcano

You’ll automatically turn back into humans upon entering the Volcano.

In the Volcano, many of the rooms will be filled with lava. You can walk
on the lava, but you’ll take damage. You’ll also start seeing trapped
treasure chests that release monsters when opened.

In a room with a large hole, there is a chest. It’s trapped, but it has
a Shining Ball. Go to the eastern end of the hole, where the lava
touches the edge. You can drop down from there. You’ll land on a ledge
with a chest. The chest contains a Shining Ball. After getting it, go
down the stairs to the south.

Below, you’ll see another flight of stairs surrounded by lava. Before
going there, go across the bridge the find a room with a Life Fountain
and a save book.

The room below has a river of lava with a platform floating around it.
Ride the platform to the different parts of the room. You’ll find a
Golden Clothes and 620 Y. To get the chest in the center, go down the
ladder in the southern part of the room. The chest has 10000 Y. To get
to the next room, walk through the lava in the north sode of the room
the the door. Don’t forget to use the Life Fountain there. If you want
to get back to the room you just left, get the block from the NE corner,
and use it to get up the stairs.

The next room has a wall of fire. It’ll do damage if you touch it. Go
left from the entrance to find a chest containing a Chocolate Bar. At
the northern end of the room, there’s a small passage through the fire
wall. Be very careful going through it, as the fire does a lot of damage.

The next room has a trapped chest with a Shining Ball. To get up the
steps, you need to climb up the slope to the side, and get on the steps
by climbing over what’s left of the banister.

You can get to the Life Fountain in the next room, but be sure to take
the block with you so you can get back up.

The next room has a Shining Ball behind a pool of lava. Go back to the
life fountain and heal up after getting it.

The next room is filled with acid. You can walk in the acid, just like
in the lava, but you don’t want to. It does 20+ points of damage per
step. You can use the blocks to get over the acid and onto the ledges
near the wall. However, once you put a block in the acid pool, it will
decay after a few seconds. First go through the door in the SW corner.
You’ll find a chest with a Helmet. Then go back to the acid room and
jump through the hole in the floor in the SW corner (closest to the
door) and get the treasure chest there. It’s trapped, but it contains a
Shining Ball. Go up the ladder and jump through the same hole. This
time, go through the door to the west.

To get through the wall of fire here, you’ll need to put the fire out.
Use the blocks and crate in the NE corner to climb onto the machinery
nearby and walk along the pipes to get the lever. Put one block on the
floor near the bottom of the machine, one block near the next ledge, and
the crate and last block on top of the dials in the far north (you don’t
need a block to climb onto the dials). Pull the lever and water will
flow from the pipes, putting the fire out.

There’s a giant Tomaton in the next room. Before you talk to it, walk
around the lava to find the Fireproof Clothes. The giant Tomaton is
Gemuko, the mayor of the Monster village. The heat from the lava has
pretty much cooked him, and he’s dying. He had been a fossil, like the
one you saw in the Port town’s museum, but J.B. has brought him back to
life using some evil power. J.B. intended to use King Baron’s machine to
make all monsters giant like Gemuko. However, even though the giant
monsters made by the machine are stronger, their bodies are much more
fragile, and age faster. Thinking you’re a monster, Gemuko warns you not
to be fooled by J.B., and turns back into a fossil.

Go down the stairs to the south, and get the Bronze Gloves out of the chest.

The machine that controls the volcano in the next room. It’s missing
some parts, so it no longer works. Both it, and the door and glowing
red-hot. Pick up the bolts in the south end of the room and put them in
the holes in the machine. With the machine fixed, you can go through the
door to the north. On the way out, you’ll find a Spring.

Go back to the Monster village and tell them about Gemuko. Now that the
eruption has stopped, the train cars are working, and you can get to
Snow Valley.

Before going to Snow Valley, go back to Deathvegas and check the item
stores and casino for new items.

--9. Snow Valley

Ride the train car from Monster village to Snow Valley. After getting
off the car, you’ll come to an area with ice-covered tracks. First go
north to get a Magic Water, then go east.

In the next room, you’ll find another car. The ice cars work just like
the train cars, but you can’t change direction. At the end of the track,
the car will drop into a hole and you’ll end up in an icy room. When you
try to move on the icy floor, you slide. You can’t change direction
while sliding, and you don’t stop  until you hit something. Slide into
the hole near the southern wall. Use the ice walls and the pink crystals
on the floor to stop yourself. If you need help, slide in this pattern:
south, east, north, east, south, east, north, west.

To get through the next room, use this pattern: east, north, west,
north, east, south, east, north, east, south, west, north, east, north,
east, north. You should be at the stairs.

There are two ways to go in the next room. First, go to the door to the
west to get an Ice Knife. Then go up the ladder to the east.

Turn right at the sign and you’ll end up at a small monastery. The monk
is practicing his punches against a block of ice. He invites you to try.
You can break it with a couple of whacks. After breaking the ice, go in
the hot spring to the north. It will restore all your LP. There’s a
temple inside the cave where you can save your game.

Ride the ice cart into the next hole. The floor here isn’t icy, so you
can walk normally. A few rooms in, you’ll find a room with a floor made
of transparent ice. You can see Bebibarons walking around under it. Walk
onto the ice and open the treasure chest. No, it’s not the key to the
next door. It’s a trap! Two of the Bebibarons fight you. The rest
(including Bebio, who you saw in the Monster village) run away after you
beat the first two. Go through the door near the ice and go down the
stairs and get the Ice Key from the chest. Use it to unlock the ice door.

Go up the ladder to get outside. Before getting on the ice cart, go
south to find a Shining Ball. Ride the cart until it falls into a hole.
There are several ladders here, but most of them are blocked by ice. The
first unblocked one you come to leads to a chest containing a Magicandy.
The ladder at the end of the path leads both up and down. Going up leads
to a dead end. Climb down and follow the path. You’ll come to a ladder
(one that was blocked by ice on the level before). Climb it to find a
Chocolate Bar.

After the ladder, you’ll see a maze of ice blocks. Some of the blocks
can be broken, like the one at the monastery. There are two paths
through. A path on the eastern end leads to a chest containing a Shining
Ball. A path of the Western end leads to a ladder to the next room.

Follow the ladders out of the cave, and jump into the next hole. On the
ladder leading out, you’ll see a door halfway up on the wall. To get to
it, you’ll have to drop down from above. At the top of the ladder is a
save book and a hot spring. Restore your LP in the hot spring, save your
game, then drop down to the door.

The door will shut behind you as soon as you enter. At the northern end
of the room is a large block of ice with a crack. Dash into the ice a
few times, the it will crumble. Jump into the hole it made, and swim to
the NW corner of the pool. You can get out again by riding the air
bubbles coming from the floor.

Follow the path outside and into the next cave. There you’ll find poor
cowardly Bebio. He’ll promise to tell you anything you want to know if
you spare him. He says that J.B. found a white ball in this mountain
(from right next to where Bebio is standing, in fact), and was very
happy about it. If you remember what the stone tablet said, this is the
white ball that activates King Baron’s machine.

Farther into the mountain, you’ll find a large machine, and some ice
blocks that seem to have people in them. When you try to examine the
block in the center of the room, you’ll fall onto a convery belt, taking
you the machine. The machine makes an ice block out of you! Yukibou, a
white Bebibaron comes to feed you to the machine and make a frozen
monster dinner out of you.

Yukibou is a tricky boss. The only way you have to fight is to tip the
ice block and hit Yukibou with it. Use the A button to tip the block.
You can’t use techniques or spells. Yoshio and Cocks can’t do anything
at all. Lady can still use items, though, so make sure you have all the
Medicine you can hold.

After defeating Yukibou, you still have to get out of the ice block. You
can move around normally, even though you’re frozen. If you take a look
at the machine, you’ll see it’s J.B.’s canning machine. But it’s been so
overused that it’s completely worn out, and can’t be repaired. There’s a
lever to the side of the machine. Dash into it the flip the lever. This
will open the door.

In the next room, you’ll slide across the floor like in the icy caves.
Slide into the large hammer in the western part of the room. Use the
frozen people to stop yourself. Move in this pattern: west, south, west,
south, east, north, east, south, west. the hammer will break the ice
block. Pick up the ice block in the center and break it with the hammer,
too. The person inside is none other than Sajik, the lost archaelogist!
After finding the giant fossil in Deathvalley, he went back to find
more. Deep inside the mountain, he found a giant tomb, covered with
writings about King Baron. When he opened the tomb, he found a huge,
purple-eyed... something. After that, he doesn’t remember anything else.
He tells you to come visit him in his house in Rivertown, then runs off
to see his wife, Meg (making a Sajik-shaped hole in the ice wall).

Go through the Sajik-shaped hole. To get to the ladder in the next room,
you have to slide down the far left path. The others will take you right
by it and you’ll have to go back to the beginning.

CLimb down the side of the mountain until you get to a cave. there’s an
inn and a church inside. There’s also a Shining Ball hidden in one of
the barrels.

Outside you’ll find an ice cart. You can use it like a sled to get down
the mountain. Use the directional buttons to steer. If you run into too
many things, the sled will break. The white lines on the ground will
make the sled jump.

Next, you’ll find another ice cart. Ride it down the track until it hits
a tree and breaks.

You’ll eventually come to a cave. There’s not much to find here, but
you’ll run into Rotten Diamonds, which give you 2550 experience points
per encounter, if you kill them before they run away. Nice!

-- 11. Ramus Tower

After leaving the cave, go east and walk along the narrow ledge to get
to the next area. You’ll have to climb up the wall using the handholds
near the northern end of the ledge (they’re hard to see).

At the end of the path, you’ll find an ornate statue. This is the
entrance to Ramus Tower. You won’t be able to get in, yet. To the west
is a small port, with an inn/church run by an elderly couple. The old
man tells you that many people used to come here in order to go the
Baron Rock and get King Baron’s machine. However, now the winds are so
strong that no one can get there any more. Check the chest of drawers
for a Spring.

Go back to Deathvegas and check the item stores. They’ve found something
interesting this time- the Black Ball. Yes, for a measly 100 Y you can
save the entire world from destruction.

Go to Rivertown. Check the stores and you’ll find them all empty. The
miners all fled here and told everyone about the giant monsters, and how
they lured people to Deathland Island with the promise of treasure in
order to turn them into cans. After that, everyone cleared out. There’s
now a treasure chest containing a Holy Staff behind the armor store.
Talk to the man in the bar who originally told you about the Shining
Ball collector and he’ll sell you a Shining Ball for 100 Y.

Go to Meg and Sajik’s house. Bob Jr. is running the warehouse. The
barrels blocking the stairs are now gone, so you can go downstairs.
Sajik, Meg, Bob and Grandfather Bob are there. Grandfather Bob will sell
you some nice equipment. Be sure to check his inventory from time to
time, as it does change.

Talk to Sajik. He and Bob have figured out that the monster he say
inside the tomb must have been J.B., not King Baron. J.B. was searching
for King Baron’s machine, and must have gone to the tomb to find a clue.
But where is King Baron’s machine? Sajik shows you an old map he found.
There’s a small island called Baron Rock near Deathland. No one has ever
gone there and come back alive. On Deathland Island near Baron Rock is a
tower that an ancient King supposedly had built to study Baron Rock. Bob
recognizes the mark by the tower as a statue he saw once (the one near
Snow Valley).

Go to the Port town. It’s even emptier than Rivertown. Go through the
testing arena to the museum (you can use the ladder to the west of the
entrance as a short cut instead of going through the whole course
again). The museum hasn’t had any visitors in a long time. The curator
is planning to leave, too, as soon as he finishes cleaning. He tells you
you can take a souvenir if you want. Take the Ramus statue.

Take the Ramus statue to Ramus Tower. Use it in front of the door and it
will open.

Inside the tower, you’ll see blue balls of fire. Talk to them and they
will tell you the story of the tower. The first one tells you that 200
years ago, King Ramus built this tower to try and get King Baron’s
machine. Go up the stairs on the western end of the room. You’ll be able
to get the treasure chest in the middle later.

Upstairs, you’ll find another blue fireball. This one tells you that the
wind coming from the sea made Baron Rock impossible to reach by boat, so
King Ramus decided to find a way to reach it by air. The blue flames are
all that’s left of the scientists King Ramus locked inside the tower in
order to find a way to do it.

In the next room, climb up the ladder to find 3000 Y, then go through
the west door.

The next room has a second floor. There a door hidden under the second
floor. Behind it is a chest containing a Shining Ball.

A few rooms later, you’ll find another blue flame. This one says that
King Ramus tried everything from mechanical wings to black magic to fly,
but nothing worked.

Go up two flights of stairs. Dash across the narrow part of the hole to
get across. Just south of there, there’s a break in the tiles. Drop down
from there to get a Chickle Gum. Go back upstairs and go through the
door to the east.

When you get outside, you’ll see a large hole in the corner of the
tower. Drop down in. Move to the edge as you fall. If you fall in the
middle, the spring will throw you back up. The chest there contains the
Old Rug. To get back up, use the block to climb onto the spring.

Go up the stairs and through the door and you’ll come to a village
populated by blue flames. There an inn, a item store and a church.

After going up the stairs, you’ll find a ladder leading back to the
village. It leads to the inside of the inn. Check the pots for a Shining Ball.

A few rooms later, you’ll see another blue flame. This one tells you
that there are 14 floors in the tower, and King Ramus is still waiting
on the top floor to go to Baron Rock.

You’ll come to a room with two elevators. You can either ride inside the
elevators and walk on top of them. The elevators move one floor
automatically whenever you enter. To get to the life fountain, make sure
one (either one) of the elevators at at the bottom floor, then drop onto
it from the second or third floor. To get to the door of the platform to
the west, put both elevators on the first floor, and dash across.

In the next room, you see the fifth blue flame. This one says that there
are still many people still in the tower. Surely one of them knows how
to fly.

Climb the ladder near the blue flame. There’s a chest with a Shining
Ball on the ledge.

In the next room, make a starway out of the blocks and crates. You’ll
need to put one of the blocks on top of one of the crates to make the
last step high enough. You can ignore the pink dolls.

When you get to the top floor of the tower, get the Saint Water out of
the chest. The blue stuff will do damage when you step on it, so be careful.

Go down the stairs (either one) and go through the door to the north.
You’ll fight three Ninja Knights. The last one will leave a hole in the
wall. Go through the hole. The room has TWO Shining Balls (one of the
chests is trapped) and a button on the wall. Push the button and go up
the stairs to the last room.

At the very top of the tower, you’ll find a green flame. This is King
Ramus himself. He’s been waiting 200 years for someone who knows how to
fly to come. He begs you to take him to Baron Rock. Use the Old Rug. The
rug is actually a magic carpet that some travelling merchants brought to
the tower. It had been able to fly, but wore out a long time ago. Not to
be discouraged, King Ramus decides that he will become the rug’s new
soul, and make it able to fly again. King Ramus merges with the magic
carpet, repairing it. Climb the ladder to the roof and get on the magic
carpet. After flying around the island and buzzing some hapless
passers-by in Rivertown, Ramus flies to Baron Rock and lets you off. He
can’t get too close because of the strong wind, so you end up at the
bottom of a cliff. Now that his dream has been fulfilled, Ramus and his
servants in the tower can rest in peace.  The carpet disappears.

12. Baron Rock

The cliff has several outcroppings, and vents spewing gas.
Unfortunately, none of it is within your reach. Yoshio suggests going
back and asking the villagers what to do.

Go back to Rivertown and talk to Bob. He’ll tell you about gas-powered
shoes used by the miners in Deathvegas. Dodohei should know about them.
Talk to Sajik. He’s jealous that you got the Baron Rock, but he’s afraid
to go himself, since he doesn’t want to end up an icecube again. He’ll
give you the old map.

Go the Deathvegas and talk to Dodohei. He’ll give you the Rocket Shoes
(make sure Lady has space in her inventory. He’ll only give them to
her.). Equip the Rocket Shoes like a weapon (make sure to equip your
usual weapon again when you’re done with the shoes). To use them, stand
in a gas vent to build up a store of gas. Then press the A button to
levitate. You don’t need to be standing in a gas vent to levitate, as
long as you’ve built up enough gas first. When the shoes are full,
they’ll levitate for a total of about 20 seconds. The yellow bar by
Lady’s name in the status screen shows how much gas is left.

Use the Rocket Shoes to float onto higher ledges and scross to the
floating platforms. In the second cliff area, there’s a chest containing
a Shining Ball. You’ll have to unequip the Rocket Shoes to be able to
open the chest.

When you get to the room with the save book, take off the Rocket Shoes
and re-equip your regular weapon.

After walking around the cliffs, you’ll come to a fortress. The first
room has a long staircase with statues along the side. Rotten Diamonds
appear here, so do some leveling-up while you’re here.

The next room has guns firing arrows. Go through the arrows to find a
chest with a Shining Ball. Now take a look at the arrows stuck in the
wall. They’ve formed a sort of staircase that you can walk up.

The next room has a treasure chest and two doors, one of which is
locked. The chest contains the Ganubis Key. It unlocks the locked door.
The unlocked one leads to a room full of spikes. Unless Yoshio knows the
Gomugutsu spell, don’t try to walk on them.

The room behind the locked door is a catwalk over a long drop. Be
careful where you step, or the floor will collapse under you. An
interesting thing here is that you can win battles here by knocking your
opponent off the catwalk instead of killing them. You don’t get as many
experience points for it, though. Yoshio and Cocks can fall off during a
battle, too. If they do, they’re out for the rest of the battle. When
you get near the end of the path, the last part of the floor will fall,
revealing a door.

The next room has a door on the other side of the spikes. Again, don’t
try to walk on them unless Yoshio knows Gomugutsu. There’s also a
treasure chest up on a ledge. You can’t get to it now, but you’ll be
able to get it later.

The next room has a long flight of stair with a small hole in the
middle. Near the top of the stairs is a button. Stand on the button and
a boulder will fall. To open the door, you have to get the boulder into
the hole. If it hits you, it will change course (it won’t do damage).
Guide the boulder into the hole using yourself as a bumper. If you miss,
just press the switch again for another boulder.

The next room has a small wire leading across the room. First, go down
the ladder in the NW corner to find a chest with a Shining Ball. The go
back up and walk across the wire to the other side. Drop off the ledge
near the wire and you should land by the door.

In the next room, you’ll see a long hall with a boulder at one end.
Press the switch in the middle of the hall to release the boulder. Hide
in one of the niches in the wall to keep from blocking it. When it hits
the eastern wall, it’ll knock it down.

Go through the hole the boulder made, and you’ll be at the treasure
chest you couldn’t get to before. It has the Iron Shoes. Equip the Iron
Shoes and you can walk on the spikes.

Now that you can walk on the spikes, go see what’s behind them. Some
floors will be flashing, and you won’t be able to walk on them. At the
moment, there will only be one room you can get to.

At the other side of the spikes is a room with a pink ceiling. A sign on
the wall says that the flashing floor is the “Ganubis Road”, and those
without the proper mark can’t pass.

Go north, and you’ll find three statues, with the middle one taller than
the other two. Hit the middle one, and a hole with open in the floor
behind you.

Go down the hole and follow the path south. You’ll come to a room with
boulders rolling around the side. Hit the boulders, and they’ll crumble.
Some steps will be too high for you the climb. To get past these, hit
the boulders in front of the steps, and climb up the rubble. Don’t wait
too long, though, as the rubble will disappear after a few seconds.

Next, you’ll come to a room with a life fountain and a save book. Check
behind the steps for a Shining Ball.

Go through the hall past the statues and climb the ladder. You’ll end up
in the room with the pink ceiling. The door will close behind you as
soon as you enter. J.B. will come to gloat. When you don’t answer him,
he’ll bang on the pink glass to see if you can hear. Before he goes, he
tells you that the equipment to activate King Baron’s machine is in the
last room in this fortress.

Check where J.B. banged on the glass, and you’ll see a crack. Dash into
the crack a few times to break out of the cell. Go down the stair in the
NE corner.

In the room below, there is a chest containing a Versacci Scoop, and
another containing the Ganubis Emblem. With this, you can walk on the
Ganubis Road. Check one of the pots to find 24000 Y.

Follow the Ganubis Road and you’ll eventually get to a room partially
filled with water. Enter the water from the bottom of the stairs and
swim to the door.

To get out of the water at the other end of the pool, you have to go up
the stairs behind the wall. You won’t be able to swim through or walk on
the rocks.

The next room has two boulders and two blue plates. One plate lowers the
small wall near the entrance. The other opens the door. To get to the
next room, you have to make a boulder drop on the plate that opens the
door. To start the boulders rolling, step on the switch near the west
wall. These boulders only change direction when they hit a wall. If they
hit you, they’ll just stop until you get out of the way. To get through,
start the boulders, then wait by the first plate. Don’t step on it, yet.
Wait until the first boulder hits the small wall and starts rolling
toward you. Then jump on the plate and wait for the boulder to pass over
you. If you’re standing on the plate, it will roll over you instead of
falling on the plate. Then just follow it until it lands on the second
plate and opens the door. Be careful not to step on the first plate too
soon. If the small wall goes down before the boulder hits it, the
boulder will not make it to the second plate.

13. Angel Rock

After a few more relatively uneventful rooms and a flight of stairs,
you’ll end up outside the fortress. There is a blue flame there. It’s
the priest from Ramus Tower, who decided to follow you and help you out
to repay you for freeing them from the tower. He’ll save your game.
Don’t be afraid to go back to town to stock up. A Spring or Yoshio’s Zap
spell can bring you back here.

Once you enter the fortress, check behind the steps for a Shining Ball.
There is a sign by the door, but half of it is missing. The other half
is the stone tablet you found in Deathvalley. Put the tablet in it’s
place, and the whole message is revealed. It’s written in ancient
script, but Yoshio can read it. It says: “To the successor who one day
shall come: The giant monsters have overrun this place. It is my, the
great BARON’s destiny to by devoured by the monsters I myself created.
So, I have decided to seal the machine... when it must move again, give
my servant Ganubis the white ball and show my name... Thus will the
machine be brought to life...... But if you give it the black ball, the
machine will never awaken again...” After you read the tablet, the door
will open.

The room inside has a pedestal, six dragon head statues and several
buttons on the floor. This room is what the stone tablet was talking
about. If you don’t have the Black Ball, go back to Deathvegas and get
it. Put the six dragon head statues on the letters that spell out the
ancient name of King Baron. If you have the Ancient Book from the Port
Town, or the Ancient Map, they will show you what it is. Remember that
you’re showing the name to the ball, not to yourself. The “bottom” of
the letters is facing the ball, not the door. Essentially, you have to
read them upside-down. After placing all the heads, put the Black Ball
on the pedestal. If nothing happens (Ganubis complains at you) when you
try to put the ball on the pedestal, you don’t have the heads on the
right letters.

After you put the ball on the pedestal, Ganubis will recognize you as
King Baron’s successor, since you have shown him his name, and the light
of the White Ball, and will reactivate Baron’s machine.

.. Huh, wait a minute... Did he say WHITE Ball?

The machine activates and the “Black” ball turns white! J.B. shows up.
He couldn’t figure out the puzzle in this room, so he decided to let you
do it for him. He painted the White Ball black, and threw the real Black
Ball away. J.B. disappears.

--14. King Baron’s Mansion

Go through the door where J.B. was and you’ll come to King Baron’s
mansion. When you enter, King Baron’s voice echoes from the dragon
statue, telling you that only someone even smarter than him will be able
to get through all the traps in the mansion (So how’d J.B. do it?).

Make your way through the stairs and twisty banisters. In the next room,
there’s a weapon shop. The stuff there is powerful, but it’s cursed.

In the next room is an old man behind a table. Before you talk to him,
go to the mail slot near the stairs and leave your money there. The mail
slot acts like Meg’s warehouse. Talk to the old man and he’ll ask if he
can test you to see if you’re worthy to be Baron’s Successor. Answer
yes. Then he’ll ask you if you think King Baron is the greatest man in
the world. Answer yes. Then he’ll ask you to give him all your money.
Answer yes (he’ll really take it!). Then he’ll ask if you angry at him
for taking your money. Answer no. Then he’ll ask if you think you can
defeat him in battle. Answer yes. He’ll turn into a Bebibaron and attack
you. If you answer incorrectly to any of his questions, you’ll get hit
by a fireball from the gargoyle head on the wall.

The next room has six levers on the wall. You need to pull the right
levers. If you pull the wrong one, you’ll have to start over. Pull the
first one on the left, then the second, then the fifth, then the third.
Then go outside the room and pull the lever near the door. If you pull
the fourth or sixth levers, you’ll get hit by a fireball.

Next, go to the room with the purple floor. The clock and candlesticks
will come to life and attack you.

After defeating them, go to the locked room at the end of the hall. A
Bebibaron is waiting there. He’ll ask you to play hide-and-seek and run
into the room. Go through the maze of bookshelves and around the outside
wall to find the Bebibaron. Talk to him and he’ll give you a Black Key.
If you talk to him again, he’ll say you’re cute and ask if you want to
go steady :).

Go up the stairs and use the Black Key to open the door.

The next room has several invisible blocks. You can tell where they are
by the shadows on the floor, but you can’t tell how high they are. The
treasure chest is on top of a stack of invisible blocks blocks. To get
to it, pick up the block that seems to be right next to it, and put it
next to the normal block by the south wall. Climb onto the normal block,
then up the invisible stairway to get to the chest. The chest contains
the Invisible Key. Use the Invisible Key to unlock the invisible door in
the north wall.

A few rooms later, you’ll come to a room with a rope hanging from the
ceiling. Climb up the rope and the curtains will open, revealing several
paintings. They’re more than just paintings, though. Climb the rope in
the candelabra painting in the NE corner, and a man will appear in the
chair painting next to it. Talk to him and he’ll pull you into the
painting. Walk NE to the window painting, then west to the painting of a
chest. Open the chest to find Baron’s Paintbrush. Once you get the
brush, you’ll be knocked out of the painting. Use the paintbrush on the
large landscape on the west wall, and it will become a path. Walk on the
path to the monster painting, and go through it like a door.

After a few more rooms, you’ll come to a room with holes in the floor
and several dragon head statues. You can walk on the gray stone, but not
on the wood floor. Jump through one of the holes, and you’ll find the
Fire Boots. Some of the holes can be walked on. To get to the other
side, use the dragon heads to test whether the floor is safe to walk on.
If you put them down and they don’t fall, it’s safe.

You’ll soon come to a hallway with a monster painting at one end. Follow
the hallway to the south. You’ll pass some closed doors and a painting
covered with cobwebs, then come back through the monster painting. After
going through it once, you can use the painting like a regular door.

Go south again, and you’ll see a door that wasn’t there before. Inside,
you’ll see a mountain of gold. Open the chests and you’ll find 4000
Shining Balls, 500,000,000 Y and a “T-back of destruction”. ...Or will
you? Check your inventory, and you’ll see nothing’s changed. Hmmmm,
something’s strange here. One of the dragon statues on the north wall
seems to be flashing. Dash into it a few times, and it will crack open.
Two other chests will be revealed. One contains the Baron’s
Handkerchief. The other is still buried by the fake gold, and can’t be
opened yet.

Go back to the painting covered in cobwebs. Use the Baron’s Handkerchief
to clean it and reveal another monster painting. Go through and you’ll
find the projector used to create the fake gold and treasure chests.
Turn it off with the switch on the wall and go through the door that
opens. Now you can get to the other chest. It contains the Monolith Key.
There’s also a life fountain where the other gold pile was.

Use the Monolith key to open the giant stone door in the northern part
of the hall. Go past the hall of windows and you’ll find the priest from
Ramus Tower waiting for you again. He’ll save your game.

The windows in the next hall are shuttered. A Wing Dragon will crash
through one and attack you. If you’re at least level 24, this is not a
hard monster to beat.

The next room has a chair and a large mirror. However, you have no
reflection in it. Sit in the chair, and you’ll hear King Baron’s voice.
He’ll tell you to look in the mirror and into yourselves. The hatred,
anger and jealousy there is your real enemy. To succeed, you must be
able to defeat yourselves. A reflection of you appears in the mirror and
walks to the edge. Get out of the chair and fight them. The mirror-image
versions of you are about as strong as you are. This isn’t a hard fight,
either, as long as you can keep track of which ones are real and which
ones are fake. After you defeat them, you can walk through the mirror.
If you return to this room later in the game, you’ll find the Glass
Shoes by the mirror. These cast “Charge” (free healing spells!) so be
sure to come back for them.

The path behind the mirror will take you outside the mansion. Below is a
path back to Angel Rock. There is a chest with a Spring there.

-- 15. Baron Tower

Go down the stairs and to the north to get to Baron Tower.

Climb up the steps at the west end, then up the ladder at the east end.
Go the the west end and climb the ladder there to get to the next area.

CLimb onto the ledge at the east end, and drop onto the lower ledge.
Walk across the lower ledge to get to the next ladder.

The next ledge has two ladders. The first leads to a dead-end.

Keep climbing until you get to a staircase. The staircase actually
doesn’t lead anywhere. Climb the ladder to the left of it, the drop down
to the west and climb the ladder there.

When you get to the next ledge, drop down the hole, walk east, and climb again.

The next ledge you get to has 4 ladders. Climb the far left one, and
you’ll find a chest containing a Magic Water. There is also a large pane
of glass. It looks like it will break if you hit if with enough force,
but there’s not enough room to dash at it. Climb up the third ladder
from the left, and you’ll find another pane of glass with enough room to
dash. Break the glass and enter the tower.

Inside, you’ll find several monsters in cages. The Gold Tomaton is the
Tomaton King, Pomme de Loa II. They were all captured by J.B. to use as
guinea pigs for King Baron’s machine, without any regard to whether they
can actually survive there. Some have already been made giants, but
they’ve been drugged. Check the white bottle in the NE corner for a
Monster’s X. In the NW corner is a mail slot.

Near the mail slot is an empty cage that seems all ready to go. The sign
says it’s reserved for a Tomaton. Use the Monster’s X to turn into a
Tomaton and enter the cage. If you turn into a gold or green Tomaton,
get another Monster’s X and try again. The machine will only work for a
red Tomaton.

The machine will suck you in and drop you in a tunnel. Walk to the end
of the tunnel. Be careful to avoid the arrows. They’ll do 10 points of
damage if they hit you. At the end of the tunnel, you’ll end up in a
cage. Dash into the south side to break out. The exit is in the SW corner.

You’ll come to a room with several conveyor belts. Step on them and
you’ll be taken to the end of the belt. Ride them through the door to
the west, then go back through to get the Shining Ball from the chest
you passed.

In the next room, go up the smaller stairs and dash across the gap in
the path the get to the door in the south wall. Be careful not the fall
on the spikes.

In the next room, ride the conveyor belts to get to the door. You’ll
have to start near the north wall and go around, staying close by the wall.

In the next room, you need to go south the to end of the ledge, then
drop down. If you drop down anywhere else, you won’t be able to reach
the ladder to the next room.

In the room with all the pipes, go to the far SE corner and jump through
the hole. The ladder don’t lead anywhere, for now.

You’ll land underwater. The current from the grate in the SE corner will
shoot you high above the floor. You should be able to float onto one of
the turtles. Ride the turtle to the ladder on the west wall. Don’t waste
too much time here. You take damage as long as you can’t breathe.

Climb up the ladder and down the next. Ride the elevator down to the
next room.

In the next room, the plate in front of the door will open the door when
you step on it.

Now you come to a room with several strange glass tubes. The tube
nearest to the door has a life foutain inside it. Climb up the ladder
and drop into it to get to the life fountain.

Several of the tubes have monsters in them. Most are unable to move, but
the last one tells you to be careful of J.B. He hates everything alive-
human, monster or whatever. He’ll save your game for you.

Go through the door to the south. The door there won’t open, but there’s
a small hole near it. The hole is too small for you to get through, but...

Jump into the tube next to the one with the priest. It will shrink you!
Now you can get through the small hole.

Go through the hole and see Inov, the monster by the bed. He’ll try to
jump on you, but you dodge by hiding in a hole in the floor. The monster
decides to take a nap. Now the question is how to get back to your real
size. You’ll see a part of the sheets hanging down from the bed. Climb
up it onto the bed.

Yes, that square thing on the bed is supposed to be the monster’s body.
Just trust me here. Go behind his arm and into his pants pocket (ew...).
Fight your way through the fleas and pocket lint. Go through a hole in
the pocket (covered with lint).

Yes, you really are inside the monster’s pants now. Try not to think
about it. Watch out for the hair, though. It’ll do damage every now and
then. The exit is to the east.

Walk around his foot and check his other pocket. Man, this guy has a lot
of pocket lint. This pocket has a piece of really old cheese in it. In
the eastern side of the pocket, there’s a piece of cheese with a crack.
Dash at it to get it out of the way.

When you come out of the pocket, you’re on the monster’s belt. Be
careful not to fall off, or you’ll have to go through the pockets again.
Jump off near the north side and go into his clothes again. Climb up the
fur to get to another hair maze.

When you get out of the maze, you have to fight... a snot bubble! When
you defeat it, you’ll get Inov’s Key. Now get off Inov and out of the
flea-infested bed as fast as you can.

Go back to the room with the tubes, and jump into the other empty tube.
Use Inov’s Key to unlock the door to it. It will turn you back to normal size.

Go to Inov’s room again, and you’ll find Inov sleeping in the hallway in
front of the door. Fortunately, he left the door open. Now that you’re
normal size again, you’re heavy enough to activate the pressure plate
that opens the door out of Inov’s room.

In the next room after the elevator, you’ll find a chest containing the
Athena Suit.

Soon you’ll come to the elevator shaft. There are five vents in the
floor. They work the same way as the underwater one you came across a
while back. Use the SW one to get to the platform with the ladder. Climb
up the ladders until you get as high as you can go. Get to the NE corner
of the room by dashing across the gap. Climb the last ladder and go
through the big door.

Walk across the bridge. On the other side, you’ll meet J.B. He’ll break
the bridge and you’ll fall to the bottom of the cliff.

16. Gates of Hell

You should be at least level 30 at this point. If you’re not, go level up.

At the bottom you’ll find a pool of lava with platforms floating around
above it. The priest from Ramus Tower is waiting in the NW corner by a
Life Fountain.

You’ll need to use the Rocket Shoes to get across the pool. Fill them up
with gas at the vent by the south side of the pool. Start on the small
ledge just north of the vent and levitate across to the platforms when
they get in range.

Refill the shoes and use them to climb the cliff, just like you did at
Baron Rock. Not all the platforms are where you might think they are,
though (dang 3/4 view!). You have to switch direction mid-stream to get
to some. When you get to the mansion, take off the Rockt Shoes and
re-equip your usual weapon.

Once inside the mansion, you’ll meet J.B. again. He threatens to feed
you to the machine, and the battle begins.
There’s no particular trick to beating J.B. Fire spells work very nicely
(especially if you have something like the Fire Scoop, where you can
cast them for free).

After you beat him, J.B. tells you his story. One day, many thousands of
years ago, he was walking in the forest on Deathland Island. At this
point, he was still just an ordinary, average-sized Bebibaron. King
Baron captured him to use in an experiment. He wanted to see how the
machine would affect something intelligent like a Bebibaron. He put J.B.
in his machine, turning him into a giant. Afterwards, he kept J.B. as a
servant and used him to capture more monsters for his experiments. The
effects of the machine has made J.B.’s body unstable, which he
demonstrates by changing into a dragon-like monster. You’ll have to
fight him again, but first heal up at the Life Fountain in the corner
and save your game at the save book J.B. drops.

This time, J.B. is harder to beat. His claw attacks can do about 70-80
points of damage, and the fireballs he shoots do about the same. Don’t
try to attack from the front, or you’ll get caught in a claw attack.

After beating J.B., heal and save you game again. Then examine the
machine. The floor cracks and you hear King Baron’s voice coming from
inside it. The machine overflows with green goo...

First, you have to defeat the slime head. Attack the flower-like thing
on the end of the arm of slime. This shouldn’t take long.
Then comes the Dragon Head. It’s similar to the slime head, but it can
paralyze you if you’re not careful.
And last, King Baron himself. There’s not much strategy here, either.
Make sure Yoshio’s and Cock’s orders are set so they’re allowed to cast
spells (you’ll need ‘em), and start whacking.

After you defeat King Baron, the machine explodes. You all go back to
town, where Sajik tells you they’ve decided to turn the island’s ruins
into an amusement park. They’ve also decided to rename the after Lady.
Now, instead of Deathland Island, it’s Jajauma Land. Jajauma means “nag”
or “noisy girl”, so it’s a bit of a back-handed compliment :). Lady and
company are treated to a fireworks display, and the credits roll. At the
end of the credits, you’ll get to see the picture the photographer at
Baron Castle took of you (with a lipstick mark from Lady herself).

Congradulations! You have finished Lady Stalker!
