Hello. Thank you for reading my FAQ. This FAQ is not meant to be a
walkthrough. It is mostly a list of all of the fusable demons in Megami
Tensei 2. I have also included some general tips to make the game easier
for first time players. While this FAQ is intended for the Kyuuyaku Megami
Tensei version of Megami Tensei 2 for the Super Nintendo, it can also be
used for the original version of the game on the Nintendo. Of course,
certain fusion combinations and events such as four secret Deity demons will
not work on the original version of the game. This FAQ is meant to
supplement Last Cetra's Megami Tensei 2 FAQ. I highly recommend reading both
FAQs in order to get the most enjoyment out of the game. If you notice any
errors please don't hesitate to email me.

A00. GENERAL TIPS
Healing HP: Have you partner and demons do most of your healing in the game.
Avoid using Jewels. Save them for when you are either low on MP or if you
need to heal during boss battles. If you need more Jewels, fight Fairy and
Jirae demons.
Restoring MP: Use your incenses on your partner whenever you find them in
treasure chests because they can restore your partner's MP to the max. You
can also stock up on Somas. See the Gem Stones explanation in the next
section for more details.
Agreeing with the Witch: When you fight the witch in Tokyo Tower, you have
the option of disgareeing with her. In the original Famicom version of the
game, if you disagreed with her she would fight you and you'd have no way of
winning. However, in the Super Famicom remake, you can disagree with her.
Your male partner will stay on your team and the witch will disappear
forever. In order to get the Water Seal in Shibuya, you need to have a
female partner or else the old man will not give you the key item. Hence,
you are forced to agree with the witch in order to continue with the game.
Bistro Angry: When you arrive at Angry Village, there will be a shop where
you can buy food. These food items are not consumable. They are actually
key items. The two that you need to buy are: Exotic Dinner and Gorgeous Set.
Buy the Exotic Dinner first and give it to Mora so you can proceed to the
next dungeon on the west coast. Buy the Gorgeous Set once you are finished
with that dungeon and give it to the Fly Man in Fly Village for another key
item. The other food combos serve no purpose.
Hero should have high Vitality and Intelligence: When it comes to boosting
the hero's stats, most people will focus on Strength and Vitality. That's
perfectly fine. Try to get both Strength and Vitality relatively high but
Intelligence should be really high too despite the fact that the hero cannot
cast spells. Intelligence will boost your success rate in demon recruitment,
it will reduce the amount of damage you take from spells, and it will
increase the amount of recoverable HP you receive from healing spells. But
there is also another added benefit: the strongest weapon and armor in the
game are the Lucifer Sword and Armor and they cannot be equipped by the hero
unless he has 30 Vitality and 25 Intelligence. During your playthrough, it
is very possible to have your hero with high Vitality, Strength, and
Intelligence. Your Speed and Luck will be around the mid-range and that is
more than sufficient.
Boost Luck: Do not skimp on boosting your Luck stat for both characters. It
will help you with getting more enemy drops. Since you can't buy melee
weapons, you will have to rely on finding them either in treasure chests or
through enemy drops. Weapons found in treasure chests are few and far
between, so I suggest boosting your luck stat so you can get as many enemy
drops as possible. If you don't need the weapon, then sell it for money.
Expensive Equipment: You'll notice that the equipment is very expensive in
this game. Do not grind to ridiculous levels just to get yourself the best
equipment in each town. The game will become too easy. Sell any of equipment
that you've obtained through enemy drops that you aren't currently using. If
you still can't afford everything, buy the some key pieces of equipment such
as the armor and arm gear first. Upgrade your remaining equipment once you
arrive at the next shop.
Guns Become Weak: Guns are useful at the beginning of the game because they
tend to be stronger than your melee weapons. Once you enter Hell, you will
start to get the more powerful melee weapons from enemy drops for both
yourself and your partner. You can stop buying guns at that point and focus
on buying armor if you wish.
Examine Item: Use this feature in order to examine your equipment before
equiping it. No equipment sold in stores is cursed but some enemy drops are
cursed such as the Death Blade. If you see a full circle next to your piece
of equipment, sell it.
Recruiting Demons: If you are talking to a demon and it asks you for an
item, always refuse. Give it money instead if you must. If you are at
sufficient levels and your intelligence and luck stats are good, bully the
demons into joining your team by choosing Persuade and then Intimidate. They
run away far less frequently and you don't lose anything if they flee. You
should be able to withstand their attacks if they get upset.
MAG Delpetion: Your MAG gets depleted if you have a demon in your active
party and if you are in a 3D dungeon. If you are wandering the overworld
with demons in your party, your MAG will not deplete. There are two great
spots where you can farm your MAG up to 9999. The overworld in Crazy Village
has Spartoi mobs that you can encounter and they give you a decent amount of
MAG. The Dream Kiss mobs in the Sleepy Village world give even more MAG but
they can be difficult to defeat if you are at low levels because they can put
you to sleep and paralyze you.
Fuse When You Have the Chance: Demons do not level up in this game. The only
way to make them stronger is to fuse them into something new. If you cannot
fuse your demon into something stronger, don't be afraid to abandon that
demon. The maximum amount of slots you have for your demons is 10 and there
is no compendium available either.
Big HP Demons: You might think that demons that have a lot of HP would be
very useful in this game. Unfortunately, they are not. Demons that have over
700 HP tend to have low intelligence and that means that they take massive
damage from spells. Sword Knight for example is possibly one of the worst
high level demons to use on the final boss due to the fact that he can take
300 damage from some spells.
Magical Demons: Demons that have weak attacks and high magic are not useful
in this game because most demons do not have much MP to work with. Magic is
not useful on most bosses. All of the Vile and Tyrant demons have lots of
resistances and no weaknesses. The bosses that do have a weakness are
usually weak to Ice. Spells may be useful for taking out the more powerful
mobs such as the Hydra but offensive magic use should be avoided in most
situations.
Evil Demons: These demons cannot be recruited nor can they be fused. It's
unfortunate considering there are some powerful Evil Demons such as Tiamat
and Girimehkala in the game.
Strong Femme Demons: These are all Evil demons and they cannot be recruited
or fused. They are very difficult to defeat because they reflect all Sword
attacks and resist Gun. Gun attacks only do 0.25X damage. Spells will do
normal damage to them but I highly recommend just running away because these
demons tend to have quite a bit of HP. The Strong Femme demons include:
Femme Volvo, Femme Tamamo-no-Mae, Femme Rangda, and Ghost Girimehkala.
Fairy Demons: I don't recommend using these demons in your active party.
Their HP is too low and their other stats are pitiful too. Only use them
to make Elementals. There are much stronger demons that have healing spells.
Kishin Demons: These are amazing and I recommend keeping one in stock at all
times and doing rank up fusion with Undine as soon as you can. Unlike the
Yoma and Genma demons, they are physical powerhouses and while their lack
of magic defense is quite poor, they make up for it with their higher HP and
multiple attacks. The ulitmate Kishin demon, Kali, is worth keeping on your
team until you finish the game.
Divine Demons: These demons are odd. Firstly, they all have Samarecarm but
the problem is that you need to be overleveled to fuse most of them. The
only ones that I have found useful for their respective levels have been
Gabriel and Michael. You can fuse them at decent levels either by using
Brahma as an ingredient or by triple fusing Elementals.
Avatar Naga: He is an event only demon but do not fuse him into just
anything. Your best option is to fuse him into a level 39 Brahma. Brahma can
then be fused into various Divine demons including Michael or even upgraded
to Odin. The only other way to fuse Brahma is through rank down fusion so
you will at least need to be at level 51 for Odin to do this if you choose
not to use Naga as an ingredient.
Genma Kikurihime: She is the only fusable demon that has Diarahan. Her HP is
at 304 so she will be able to survive most attacks. I recommend fusing her
right away because this way you will conserve Jewels and also due to the
fact that your partner will not learn Diarahan until she is over level 60.
As your demons break the 500 HP threshold, you will need to be using Jewels
and Diarahan more often. She also has Samarecarm which will revive you to
full HP. She is the best healing demon after Baal and Leto.
Trastart and Traesto Demons: Lv 31 Genma Damballah is the only demon that
knows Trastart. This spell will teleport you to the last terminal that you
used provided you are in the overworld. Lv 33 Holy Pabilsag is the only
demon that knows Traesto which has the same effect as Emergency Exit. That
is, you get teleported out of a 3D dungeon. Your partner will learn these
spells later in the game. If you find yourself needing to use these spells
earlier, then fuse these demons. You don't have to use them in your active
party. Spend some yen to summon them when you need them.
--------------------
B00. GEM STONES
Gem stones are fairly important in the game. They are traded for rare items
in Rag's Shop. The first time you encounter the shop will be on the 2nd
floor of Shibuya. You can obtain gem stones in two ways: by finding them in
treasure chests or by farming them from specific rooms. There are easily
accessible rooms where you can find all three gem stones. You can find the
Amethyst in a small room on the first floor of Shibuya. The Emerald can be
found in the bright area next to where you fought the Basilisk in Ginza B2F.
Lastly, the Aquamarine can be found on the third floor of Shinjuku. Below
are the items you can trade for each gem:
Emerald:
Core Shield - Take no damage from damage floors until New Moon
Sacred Bell - Revives dead demon or character with full HP
Soma - Restores HP and MP to max and cures poison
Aquamarine:
Petrinon - Cures petrification
Emergency Exit - Warps to dungeon's entrance
Thunderbolt - Lightning strikes the party causing damage
Amethyst:
Muscle Drink - Temporarily increase HP in battle
Exorcism Herb - Repels low level demons until New Moon
Canned Demon - Use it to enter in a battle with a demon
With your Emeralds, you should focus on obtaining at least 3 Core Shields
because you will definitely need them for the Zaratan dungeon. A few
dungeons after it also have damage floors. Grab a Sacred Bell or two but
focus on obtaining Somas from that point on. With the Aquamarine, you should
mostly get Emergency Exits until your partner learns Traesto. Get a Petrinon
or two but don't get too many of them because stone status is very uncommon
in the game. With the Amethyst, only get Exorcism Herbs. The rest of the
items are not worth getting.
--------------------
C00. JACK FROST JR SECRET
There is a secret Jack Frost that can be encountered. If you complete the
Jack Frost Jr quest, you will receive 3 very powerful demons and an Easter
egg if you chose to get the chaos ending. Please note that you cannot get
these rewards if you didn't start your MT2 game from your MT1 completed save
or if you have already used your Heidrun. The Heidrun is obtained after you
get the Member's Card from the child in the bomb shelter where you started
the game. You must have at least visited Rag's Shop twice in MT1 in order
for the child to give you the Member's Card. Take the card to Rag's Shop on
the second floor of Shibuya in order to get the Heidrun.
In order to encounter Jack Frost Jr, all you need to do is go into a small
room that has an empty treasure chest inside it. For the sake of
convenience, I suggest going into the Underground Shelter in Haneda. The
treasure chest is in the center of the room. Enter the room with the opened
treasure chest and leave the room. Now, press the DOWN button on your
controller 31 times. Give yourself enough time to completely turn around. If
you did it correctly, you should be facing the small room. Go inside. Even if
you encounter an enemy, Jack Frost Jr will still appear afterward. Answer
"Yes" to Jack Frost's question.
Teleport to Dream Island and walk around the overworld until you encounter
Pyro Jack in battle. Talk to him and he'll give you a special message
regarding Jack Frost Jr. Teleport back to Haneda and do the same trick to
encounter Jack Frost Jr once again and say "Yes" to his question.
Since you already have the Heidrun, you will need one more special item, the
Fallen Angel's Wing. It can be obtained by beating the Code Breaker game on
the first floor of Bael's Castle. You must get the code right on the first
try in order to win it. If you aren't cheating, this can be very difficult.
If you want to beat it fairly, I suggest buying 99 Metal Cards for 19,800
yen from the item shop in Ginza and always guessing the same number. The
item shop in Ginza has it's own building in the southern part of town. Metal
Cards are also dropped by Highway Star, Metal, and Punk. They can be found
in the Shiba Overworld.
Once you have the Fallen Angel's Wing, go into any Jakyou Manor and Jack
Frost Jr's father will appear and give you the option of adding Qing Long,
Bai Long, and Kali to your team.
If you get the chaos ending, visit the nurse in the shelter and Jack Frost
Jr's mother will appear and introduce you to four secret Deities. Answer
"No" and each deity will introduce themselves and give you a vague hint on
how to find them.

D00. FUSION RULES
Here are some basic fusion rules. Note that sometimes these rules aren't
always followed due to various factors such as a demon having a very low or
high level, too many demons having levels that are very close to each other
(Yoma clan), or special fusions.
Divine Fusion:
Deity + Kishin
Holy + Genma + Deity
Avatar:
Kishin + Genma + Holy
Deity + Kishin + Holy
Deity Fusion:
Avatar + Kishin + Genma
--------------------
E00. RANK UP RULES
Here is a list of which Elementals a clan needs in order to rank up. Element
Vepar and Element Lakhe cannot rank up any clan and Fairy, Element, Divine,
and Diety cannot be ranked up.
Element (None)
Holy (Gnome)
Genma (Sylph)
Kishin (Undine)
Divine (None)
Avatar (Salamander)
Deity (None)
--------------------
F00. DEMON FUSIONS
With some exceptions, I try not to list fusions recipes that require
ingredient demons that have higher levels than the resultant demon because
by then, the resultant demon may be too weak to use. If a high level fusion
is the only combination available, then it will be listed. Please be aware
that sometimes it may be easier to recruit the demon rather than fusing it.
Take advantage of this when you have the chance. Rank up fusions may also be
easier to do than your typical two demon fusion. To avoid giving yourself
more work, try to avoid two demon fusions that require Element, Kishin,
Holy, or Genma clan demons. Also avoid fusions that require a Deity or
Avatar ingredient unless it is the only option available. If a demon
ingredient is recruitable without any restrictions, it will have an (R) next
to it. If it can be recruited under limited restrictions, it will have an
(L) next to it. The demons that can only be obtained through one time events
will have an (E) next to them. Look at what options you have available to
yourself and use your own judgement.
