BAREBONES  F A Q  Ver 1.0 (June 3rd, 2002)

Dear reader, welcome to the Barebones FAQ for the Gundam Simulator, F91.  All
the information contained herein were derived from my two runs through the game
and from the game manual.

 F A Q
=========

What is F91 about?

"In this game you act as the pilot of a protoype Gundam, the F90 variants and
subsequently the F91.  It is a hybrid strategy/simulation game, where movement
of your Mobile Suit (MS) take place on a 2D map, and when you encounter an
enemy, it shifts to a anime/radar view where you engage them in real time
simulator combat."

Explanation of Gundam control system:
=====================================
In the game, there will be 3 stages in each level.
Stage 1 - Story Stage.
Stage 2 - Movement Stage.
Stage 3 - Combat Stage.

Story Stage: Commands to use
----------------------------
Description: A series of slides to show the setting for the next mission you
will be embarking on.  Not too interesting if you cannot read Japanese.

X Button: Skips the story and jumps directly to the next Movement Stage.

Movement Stage: Commands to use
-------------------------------
Description: Here you will see a map of the current scenario.

SPACESHIP: The spaceship is your HQ.  You need to protect it from the enemy.
If it is *destroyed*, you *lose the scenario*.  This game takes place in real
time, so if an enemy is in contact with your spaceship, you must quickly return
to it to destroy the enemy before it is destroyed.  When you move the BLUE
COLOURED ROBOT onto the spaceship, you get to select a new Gundam to use.

BLUE COLOURED ROBOT: That represents you.  Pretty eh?

BROWN COLOURED ROBOTS: They represent your comrades.  They are controlled by
the computer.

GREEN COLOURED ROBOTS: The Enemy. 'nuff said.

D-PAD: Moves the cursor around the screen.

A Button: Selects the that the cursor is on.  If it is on a robot, then it
displays the number of units, their type, unit number and damage levels.
(Useful when you are deciding which enemy unit to engage next.) If you select
the BLUE COLOURED ROBOT, you can move him around.  If he touches a GREEN
COLOURED ROBOT, then you will enter real-time combat, please see the
description in Stage 3.

B Button: Cancels.

Movement Stage: Commands to use
-------------------------------
Description: When your BLUE COLOURED ROBOT touches a GREEN COLOURED ROBOT, they
fight.  In the centre of your display is the radar.  The arc represents the
area that you can target.  There are 3 ranges: Close, Medium and Far.  This is
important because certain weapons are more useful at certain ranges (e.g. Head
mounted machine guns - Close range; Beam Saber - Close Range; Beam Rifle -
Medium Range; VSBR - Far range)

In short, you need to manoeuvre those blinking dots into the arc then hit the A
Button.  Then you get to select the weapon you would like to use.

Power (RED) Bar: The red bar on the left side of the screen represents the fuel
you have left in the Gundam.  Run out of fuel and it's game over.  Fuel will
continuously deplete in real time.  Replenish by returning to the spaceship and
selecting another Gundam.

Armour (GREEN) Bar: The green bar on the right side of the screen represents
the armour on your Gundam.  If an enemy MS attacks you successfully, it will
deplete.  Run out and its game over.  Replenish by returning to the spaceship
and selecting another Gundam.

The other information on-screen is pretty much superfluous.
An interesting thing to remember when starting out is that the F90 A type can
move 2 squares per turn, whereas the D type can only move one.  That is because
the A type was designed for air warfare, whereas the D type was geared towards
ground-pounding.

D-Pad
UP/DOWN: Steers your Mobile Suit(MS) towards/away from the enemy MS.
LEFT/RIGHT: Steers your MS left/right.

L/R Buttons: Rotates the torso of your MS to the left/right.

A Button: Attack!

START Button: Pause/Unpause.

Hint! You must use every single type of Gundam available in every mission
because in the next mission you will be rewarded with a new weapon for the
Gundam that is used.  I didn't realise this the first time I played through
F91, and it was only when viewing the credits that I realised that I was
missing a lot of weaponary for the F90 D type.  So remember!  Return to the
spaceship and use every single Gundam within each scenario.  The F91 will make
its appearance when the time is right.

Enjoy yourself.
Thanks

APPENDIX

How many stages are there in F91?

> Frankly I forgot.  I have a savegame in the last level in my cart, but the
Super Famicom's packed away now.  Actually the game isn't really long nor
difficult, so if you persevere and you should have it beat in a night or two.

Cheat codes please!

> Don't know any.  Don't need any either.  It's quite an easy game to play.

I don't know Japanese and I don't know about Gundam, would I find F91 fun?

> Probably not.  Most of the fun is in moping up the Zaku IIs, Doms et al.
Plus the joy of using the variants of F90 and of course the elusive F91.  If
you don't know Japanese, then you probably won't follow the story.  If you
don't know Gundam, the you probably have no idea what the whole shebang's
about.
