A Note to you all
-----------------------------
Please, feel free to email me secrets, tricks, tips and QUESTIONS*! I
need questions to make a FAQ section. Read the Disclaimer at the bottom
for more information.
*Please don't ask questions on how to backtrack out of a dungeon. In
some places, I tell you how, such as Mount Kress. But in most places
you should be able to find your way out. I mean, If you got in and got
what you needed, how hard is it to get out? I ask this because I
honestly did not take down notes. So I won't be able to help you in
that area, unless its in the walkthrough already.

Lots of thanks to
[email protected] (Steve Rusher): I will point out
the two times I used his information. Both times in Mu.
Thanks to Tragician (
[email protected]) for telling me about the
similarties between Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia! I have never
played Soul Blazer before. Terranigma is the third game. Thanks to
CheeseGOTAS who told me a few seconds later.
Oh, Thanks to Nathanael Neisen for sending Steve the information on
fighting the vampires with Freedan and how to get to the dark space so
you can change to Freedan.
Thanks to gamefaqs for posting this on the site. I worked so hard on
this and it is nice to see all my hard work on the site for other people
to see!

General Information
-----------------------------
Illusion of Gaia is a great action rpg which ranks up there with Secret
of Mana and Zelda. I liked this game very much and have beaten it
twice. I started playing it for the 3rd time today and thought that I
would make a walkthrough. I feel that this is a very under rated game
and anyone who is lucky enough to pick up this gem will enjoy it very
much! It is a very linear game, with its only one side quest:
Collecting 50 jewels. But you will find that this game has a deep
story, especially for an action rpg, which usually aren't known for
being strong in the story department.
-----------------------------
Companions
-----------------------------
In this section I will give just a basic explanation on some of the main
characters you will meet in the game. You can also find this in the
instruction booklet. But I did not copy it word for word, rather from
memory. Still, My explanation is a little different (and better).
Will - Will enjoys exploring with his father. He has some very unique
powers but has yet to grasp the importance of them. He is the main
character and will be the one that you explore and fight with.
Unfortunately he is the only playable character.
Kara - The Princess of Edward Castle. She is stubborn (and persistent)
and insists on doing whatever she pleases. She will cause Will and co.
a lot of problems.
Lance - Lances father, along with Will's father were lost in the Tower
of Babel. Will and Lance are both determined to find there fathers and
they work well together. He will prove to be an asset to Will in this
game.
Seth - Seth is introverted to say the least. Reticent and skinny, Seth
isn't your common jock. However, he is very intelligent. He hangs out
in the caves of South Cape all day, playing with his friends.
Lilly - Lilly is from Itory Village. She is very important to your
quest and also turns into a dandelion.
Erik - Erik is the young one in the group. And like any young kid, he
wants to tag along with the group. But he will cause some problems for
Will. He is the son of the richest man in town.
*************************************************

*This contains no spoilers what so ever!
-----------------------------
South Cape
-----------------------------
Will's adventure begins in his small hometown of South Cape. The game
starts in school. After a brief discussion, you are free to leave the
school. First, head to the roof top of the school to collect your first
red jewel. It is on the left side of the bell tower. Talk to the man
on the top left corner and jump off the school roof top. Go straight
and jump off the ledge. here you will meet Gem the Jeweler, who tells
you everything you need to know about the red jewels. You can send your
jewels to him by selecting them from your inventory. Head over to
Lance's house and go downstairs. In the blue jar at the top, you will
find red jewel number two. Now head to your house and talk to your
grandparents. They tell you to play for a while. So head south to the
cave. Its in the bottom right corner of town. There is a fisherman
outside the cave on the docks. Later he will catch a jar with the third
red jewel. So check back often. With three jewels, see the jeweler to
receive a herb. Make sure you save your herbs, they are very rare! Now
head to the cave. Talk to Seth and Lance and Erik comes in. Show them
your powers by moving the statue with L and R and picking the right card
(any card is right). Talk to them again and leave. When you exit the
cave, it will be dark. So head home. You are in for a surprise!
After, head upstairs and talk to your grandparents. Follow them
downstairs and watch the scene that unfolds. Than eat dinner. In the
morning, your grandparents, who are a bit bereaved, give you a letter
from King Edward. You are now free to leave town.
-----------------------------
Edward Castle
-----------------------------
Head to the right and talk to everyone as you make your way upstairs.
Behind one of the pillars is a hidden voice and jewel four. When you
reach the top floor, head left and try to get into Kara's room. She is
forbidden to leave the room and needs your help to escape. Now head
back down to the first floor and take a left. Go up the stairs and talk
with the king. No matter what you say to him, you are doomed!
-----------------------------
Prison
-----------------------------
Talk to everything in sight. The wall, the moss, the ball and chain,
the door, eventually you will get your daily rations and drift off to
sleep. You will have a dream and receive your first dark gem. Grab it
using L and R. than head to the door. Its Hamlet to the rescue!!! Get
the letter and the key. Select the key from the inventory and open the
door. Head to the right and save your game. Head to the left, than
head down.
-----------------------------
Edward Dungeon
-----------------------------
Monsters: King bat - 3, Canal worm - 5, Ribber - 3,
Brown king bat - 10, Skull chaser - 14, Skull chaser's head - 10
Your first dungeon! Enter the door and you will meet the first enemies
of the game! Game Tip: Push start to see the radar. It will tell you
how many enemies are in the room and show you the ones in range along
with where you are in comparison. Along with information on how many
chests and power ups there are. Three bats! Important Game Tip: Make
sure you kill off all the enemies in the room. Defeating every foe will
reward you with either a defense, hp or power up by one point. Also
make sure you collect all the dark gems that enemies drop! After
defeating the three bats you will get a heart (Hp power up). Go through
the door to the second room. Head to the bottom of the room, turn
right, and go up. Go up the stairs and across the bridge and down some
more stairs. Defeat the worm like creature and the blocks will
disappear allowing you to defeat the skeleton. Head down killing every
monster in sight. Keep heading south until you reach some stairs.
Cross the bridge and go down the second flight of stairs. If you defeat
every enemy in this room, you should get a str. power up. Defeat the
worm to open up a passage to the south to the third room. Enter and
head down and right to some stairs. Go up to defeat some enemies and
than go down to meet the first puzzle of the game. Use L and R to move
one statue up to open a pathway tween the stairs. Head down the stairs.
Watch out for the spiky ball things and make your way north. It
shouldn't be to hard. Go left to some stairs. Beat up the enemies on
the way while going left Head back right and jump off the ledge. Head
right and down. Hit the switch to move the spiky balls. Now you are
free to move to the left and get a treasure chest. But watch out for
the spiky ball that circles it! Head back to where you had landed after
jumping off the ledge. Go left and up. Defeat the final enemies in the
room to receive a defensive power up. Go up through the door to the
fourth room. Head north and up the stairs. Go up and right looking
for falling spears (Game Tip: You will see shadows just before the
spears land) along the way. Go slowly and continue up, than left. Head
up again than take a right. You should now see some stairs, so go up
them. This next part can be tough if your not 100% attentive. Head to
the left, go up and right avoiding the spiky balls. Right and up. Than
head right and down Go right and up again. You can't hit the switch
with your sword. So go up the stairs and head to the ledge on your
right. Jump! A door appears. Go in and open the chest for your fifth
jewel. Head out of the room and go up the stairs. Stay at the bottom
and decimate those annoying bats! The brown one is the one you should
look out for! He can take away 1 full HP! So watch out and use your
common sense to avoid the attacks! They aren't very smart. When
everything is destroyed, you will receive HP power up. Head north
through the door. Take a left. You should see a flower. Talk to it!
Play Lola's melody. You hear a strange voice which tells you to go to
the switch on the right wall. You are than told to hit the switch on
the count of three. So you will see "1" "2" "3" right below the switch.
When you see 3, hit the switch! A door in the middle of the room
appears. Head to the left than head through the door that just
appeared. Beat any enemy you can but don't worry if you can't get a
few....You will see a save point and learn about Freedan. Turn into
Freedan and head down and right. With his long sword he can reach the
switch. Go north than head left. Watch out for the spiky balls as you
move westward. Kill the brown skeleton than the head to open up a
passageway to the north. Head up, take a right and go down the stairs.
Head right to some more stairs. Watch out for the four spiky balls and
head to the stairs in the south. Take a left to get a red jewel. Head
right and up killing the brown skeleton the head. This open up a
passageway to the north. You also get a defense up if all the enemies
are gone! head north than left to a door. Head to the right side of
the barrels and look at the bottom one to receive another jewel! Go up
to meet Lilly! Go through the door. Congratulations! You have
finished the first of many dungeons! You should now have seven jewels
(don't worry if you have six).
-----------------------------
Edward Castle
-----------------------------
Head back to Kara's room and get her. Head to the basement and search
the barrel with no top to find some roast. Delectable! Exit the
castle.
-----------------------------
South Cape
-----------------------------
You will automatically return to Will's house. Follow Kara upstairs.
Lilly than comes to calm you down after Kara and Will get a bit
apprehensive. Phew! You now have time to talk to the towns people.
Before leaving, see Gem. He will give you a defense power up if you
have five gems. Do what ever else you need to do than see Lilly.
-----------------------------
Itory Village
-----------------------------
Play Lola's melody at the entrance for a nice surprise! Search the wood
pile to the left for red jewel 8. With eight jewels head back to South
Cape and talk to Gem for a power up. If you haven't gotten the jewel
from the fisherman he should have it by now. Head back to Itory
Village. Head to the right and up the stairs for another surprise and a
good laugh! Go to the north part of town and go to the save point to
learn a new skill! Psycho Dash! Wahoo! But only young Will can use
it, not Freedan. Run off the ramp and over the chasm. There is that
strange voice again! Say yes twice and head down the ladder. Head into
the cave and use the psycho dash to open the back wall. Head out of the
cave and run down the ramp to get back to the village. Talk to Lilly.
-----------------------------
The Moon Tribe
-----------------------------
Monsters: Scuttle bug - 6
Talk to the shadows for some BENEFICIAL information. Go into the cave
below the moon tribes plateau. You have 20 seconds to kill the enemies.
They are all along the northern wall. Hurry! It shouldn't be to tough.
Use your jump attack if you need to. Retrieve your prize! Talk to
Lilly who is right outside the cave! Next stop: Incan Ruins.
-----------------------------
Incan Ruins
-----------------------------
Monsters: Scuttle bug - 6, Mud pit - 8, Four way - 9, Whirligig - 6,
Slugger - 8, Splop - 6, Stone guard - 11, Stone lord - 11
There is a cave in the northeast corner leading to Larai Cliff. Head
Left and enter the door. Defeat the enemies for a def. power up. Head
left and get rid of the slugs than go up the stairs. Beat the rest of
the enemies and you will be rewarded with a HP power up. Go through the
door to get a diamond shaped block. Go back to the room with spikes.
Put the block in the engraved part of the ground left of the spikes.
This will cover the spikes and make a pathway leading to a door. Enter
this door and you will be outside. Go down the ladder and take a right.
Defeating all the enemies in this area makes a ladder. This is a
shortcut back to the entrance. Ignore that ladder and take the one to
the south. Enter the door. Take a right and go up the stairs. Use
psycho dash to break the statues. Head back out and take the ladder
back up. Take a left until you can't anymore. Now look for a gap
between the rocks and jump! You should now be in a new part of the
ruins. Enter the door. Take a right and proceed to the north. Take a
left and head down the stairs. Keep going south and take a left. Now
go north. Beating all the enemies gets you a str. power up. Go through
the door. Don't go down the ramp yet! Take the stairs and beat all the
enemies. Don't fret if you can't beat the one statue to the upper left.
You will be able to kill him later. Take the other set of stairs to the
south. Exit the door. Beat all the enemies in this area to create
another ladder. Enter the room with four golden statues and four gold
plates. Twirl your flute to move the statues on to the plate. But
don't get to close to them, or they will awake and attack you! Put
three statues on the tiles, than have Will stand on the fourth one. In
the next room, watch out for the blocks that fall when you step on the
gold tiles. Stepping on some of the gold tiles makes a bridge of blocks
over the pit of spikes. Head to the save point and change into Freedan.
Go up the stairs to the left. Beating the enemies gets you a def. power
up. Exit the newly created door and Freedan will listen to a new
melody. Back track all the way back to the room you were in with Will
with the statue he couldn't reach. You should now be able to reach the
statue with Freedan. Now go down the ramp. Defeat the final enemies in
this room for a HP power up. Go down the stairs and exit to the south.
Head right. Beat all the enemies and run down the ramp. To the far
left is a chest with a herb. Take the stairs to the right. Head left,
than down, than all the way to the right. Hit the switch and kill the
four statues for a defensive power up. Exit at the door to the south.
Killing all the enemies leads to a ladder and the final enemy on the
outside of the ruins. Beat him to get a str. power up. Go back down
the ladder and enter the door. Go up the stairs and take a right. Than
head north and down the stairs. Hit the switch and defeat the four
statues. Don't go up the stairs yet, take a left a beat the four
slimes. Now go up the stairs and down the ramp. Go south down the
stairs and beat the enemies to receive a Hp power up. Exit at the door
to the north. Take a left, than go down to kill four monsters.
Backtrack and take a south turn to a save point. Change back to Will
and save your progress. Go up the stairs to get a red jewel. Beat all
the enemies to get a str. power up. Now exit the way you came. Head
down the stairs and go south along ways to some stairs leading down.
Have Will play the Wind Melody that Freedan learned earlier. Stand on
the glowing block for a while. A door opens to the south. Enter. Go
down the first ladder you see and put Inca Statue A in the slot. Go up
the ladder and head left, going down the second ladder and doing the
same for Inca Statue B. Head up to the save point and change to
Freedan. Save your progress! Trust me!!! Save! Head left and step on
the gray square....
*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP
Castoth is no walk in the park. In fact, he is a grotesque beast with
some nasty attacks! He is fairly difficult for a first boss. Your main
target is his hands. Defeat those and hit his head, when his eyes widen
that is your cue! Damage him and watch out for his head beams and
shots! The safest refuge from his onslaught is the back ledge. Attack
this repugnant beast with no reprieve and don't be afraid to use a herb
or two! He should be dead in two to three turns. Exit to the north.
Congrats! You beat the first of six guardians! Head north and drop
down the pit.
-----------------------------
Incan Gold Ship
-----------------------------
This is aesthetic to say the least! A very beautiful ship! Ignore
everyone on the deck for now and take the stairs leading down to the
insides of the ship. Talk to everyone on this floor and head down to
the second level. Get the mystic statue! One down, five to go! Head
up and go to the deck to speak to the crew. Head up the ladder to the
look out. The ship finally sets sail! Head back inside to take a nap!
When you awake, you might not like what you see. Head out to the deck
and talk to Seth for red jewel 10. Go back inside and talk to the
queen. As you try to leave, Lance stops you. Head back out to the
deck.
-----------------------------
Stranded on a raft
-----------------------------
Here is what I did on each day.
Day 1 - Will and Kara are stranded. Talk to Kara twice. Eat some roast
(that you got from Edward Castle).
Day 2 - Talk to Kara. Slash a fish with your sword. Stand to the right
of Kara and face the west.
Day 4 - Talk to Kara twice. A jar drifts towards the raft. Walk up to
it and press A. Talk to Kara two more times.
Day 7 - Talk to Kara. Keep eating fish until your HP is fully restored.
Invigorating! Talk to Kara and catch a fish for her.
Day 12 - Follow the story
Day 18 - Talk to Kara. Look out for the sharks! Talk to Kara again
Stand next to Kara and wait.
Day 21 - Talk to Kara.
-----------------------------
Diamond Coast
-----------------------------
Finally saved! When Will awakens, go outside and search the jar to the
right for jewel 11. Go back inside and talk to Kara. Leave the house
and talk to Kara again.
-----------------------------
Freeja
-----------------------------
Head northwest to the house with the man in pink in the window. Just to
the right is a HP power up and a herb. The house next to his has a dark
space. Haven't seen one of those in a while, eh? Head back to the
entrance of town. Take a right. There are some stones between two
houses where you can jump. Head to the right and head up. Talk to the
weirdo in pink for red jewel 12. Head back to the north part of town.
Go as far right as possible before you are stopped by a moron who simply
tells you to go home. Enter the house nearby. Go to the roof and jump
off the right ledge! Nyah! Make fun of him but don't talk to him.
Take the dead end alley and go up the ladder. Talk to the run away
laborer. Leave and go to the north part of town. See the two slave
traders in pink? Talk to them and turn the poor sap in for a red jewel.
Finally, head to the entrance of the hotel and talk to Kara. On the
second floor of the hotel in the room to the far left, there is a green
jar with red jewel 14. Make sure to cash in your jewels with Gem! Go
to the labor camp again and once again, jump off the right ledge. Head
to the right and into the cave. Say yes to the man in pink and hear the
sad tales. Agree to help the kid on the far right. His friend is being
held in the house on the corner of a back street. Remember the house
with the man in pink who always slammed the door when you came close?
Well barge in, turns out he is just a low life coward! Exit Freeja and
head to the Diamond Mine.
-----------------------------
Diamond Mine
-----------------------------
Monsters: Flayzer - 10, Grundit - 5, Eye stalker - 5
Like always, Make sure you take out every enemy. There are no items, so
head north, take a right, than go south a little way and right just a
bit. Than go north for a while and take a left beating the final
monsters in the room for an HP power up. Enter the door to the north.
Go right and observe the elevator entrance. Than go north a few steps
than head left to speak with a slave. Help him and continue north.
Take a left than go north than right. Maneuvering through the small
wall maze. Go down and you will see a treasure chest. It contains a
herb. Continue south than take a left and finally go north to some
stairs which lead to a cross shaped platform. Make sure you hit the
switches on the east, west, north and south sides also taking care of
the enemies. Your reward is a str. up. Head down the stairs in the
middle of the platform. Take a right and go down the stairs. Take a
left, go south for a while, than take a right. Head north and take a
left to some stairs. DO NOT head down the second set of stairs just
yet! Defeat all the enemies for a def. power up and an entrance to a
dark space. Change to Freedan and save your progress. Just to the left
of this dark space is a wall that can break with Will's psycho dash.
When you see Will's hair blowing, you know your in the right place!
Meet the slave and get jewels 15, 16 and 17! Now you are free to head
down those stairs. Head down some more stairs and take a left.
Maneuver your way through the fences while heading north. Go up the
stairs and down the ramp. Go north to another ramp. Run down and
notice that you are blocked by a fence. Also notice the enemy to the
north on the ledge. You can't do anything about those right now so head
right and proceed down the stairs. Defeat the four enemies in the next
room and a passage to the north will be opened. Continue north
defeating all the monsters. Finally, you'll get an HP power up. Keep
heading north and you will see a dark space. Ignore it and use a psycho
dash on the northern wall to open a path to a second dark space. In
here, Freedan learns a new skill. Back track to the room with the one
final enemy and the ramp that made Will run into the fence. With
Freedan's dark friar you can now beat the final enemy, get a def. power
up and destroy the barrier between the two ramps. Now run down the ramp
and up the one to the right. Go up the stairs to get the elevator key.
Go all the way back to the elevator. Make sure you change back to Will
on your way back. Make your way south and cross the bridge to the left.
Get on the little platform and look at the awesome graphics as it takes
you to the other side. Go south and go down the stairs to the right.
Maneuver your way through the fence maze (not really a maze since there
are no dead ends). Get the key from the slave. Defeating all the
enemies in this room gets you a HP power up. Go back to the previous
room and take the left stairs. In the bottom right corner next to a
corpse you will see something shinning. Its the mine key! Defeat all
the enemies in this room for a str. power up. Go back to the previous
room and use the two mine keys on the middle stairs. Head south and
free the three slaves. Learn the memory melody. You can now exit the
mine.

Neil's House

Talk to Neil. Look at the telescope, camera, airplane wings and oxygen
tank next to the wings. Talk to Neil again and say yes.
-----------------------------
Nazca Plains
-----------------------------
Talk to everyone. Wander and touch every corner. The spirit is in the
bottom left corner. Meet everyone who are now gathered to the north.
Answer 'Left Foot' when Neil asks you a question. Follow everyone to
the left foot. Stand across from Lance.

Monsters: Nitropede - 12, Dinapede - 12, Red cyber - 16,
Blue cyber - 16, Slasher - ??
Go west and than north to a dark space. Start with the upper right
area. Head south and watch out for the worms after you defeat them,
they explode! Continue south and take a right and head north. Go up
the stairs, right and down some more stairs. Head right and up some
stairs to a red jewel. Head south beating all the enemies and jump off
the side to flip to the other side. Go north and take a right at the
end. Go down than right. Watch out for the fireballs, you can't kill
them. Continue south. Go left still heeding the fireballs. Once out
of the way take a right at the first intersection. Go south and jump
off the ledge for a herb. Beat the robot. Back track to the
intersection and head south. Take a left to beat the two final to
receive a str. power up. Continue right and jump off the ledge. Defeat
the guardian sword than use the flute to move the guardian himself.
Crystal ball number one! Now head out of this area and back to the main
room.
Going clockwise, enter the next area. Go south. Beat the robot than go
down the ladder. Shimmy across the narrow ledge to the ladder to the
right. Defeat the robots and go south. Defeat the guardians sword and
move him out of the way with your flute. Now run down the ramp. Go
down the stairs to the left and north. Defeat the guardians sword and
move him with tour flute to reveal a secret passage to a dark space.
Change into Freedan and record your progress. Continue north defeating
all the enemies. Jump off the ledge and head right. Use Freedan's long
reach to destroy the red robot in the middle. Jump off the ledge to the
right. Defeat all the enemies to get a str. power up and also a passage
to the south opens up. Jump off the ledge you come to. Head right than
north defeating all the enemies. Avoid the fireball and redeem crystal
ball number two. Defeat the final three monsters to the left for a HP
power up. Leave this area...
Enter the third area and head south and take a left. Defeat the enemies
and a pathway to the north opens. Beat the two worms and jump off the
ledge. Hit the switch and head left for a red jewel. Now hit the
switch again and jump off the ledge. Head towards the left path and
defeat the three blue robots. Head south and take care of the worm to
open up a pathway to the east. Go right and defeat the three blue
robots to get a def. power up. Head north and jump off the nearby ledge
just right of the save point. Use Freedan's dark friar to hit the
switch from a distance and return to the other side. Enter the dark
space and turn into Will and save! Head back to the ramp and run down
it up to another ramp with two statues. Use psycho dash to get rid of
the helpless statues. First, jump off the ledge. You still need to get
rid of some foes on the other side. Head north than right, south than
left. Kill the guardians sword and use your flute to move the guardian
over the switch, this is vital! Once the enemies are all gone, you get
a str. power up. Head back to the other side. Get rid of the statues
again. Go up the stairs and run down the ramp. With the nice running
start you get access to crystal ball number three! One more to go, so
exit this area.
Enter the final part. Head left than south. Climb the stairs and go
down the ramp. Head left than north all the while kicking some monster
butt. Don't even think about going down the ramp yet. Instead, go off
the ledge. Now go off the ramp but put on the breaks before you go off
a second one or you will be sent back to the start of this area. Go
south and off the ledge. Go right and south, than left. Than south
defeating the three enemies. Now jump off the ledge you just passed.
Defeat the three worms and the guardians sword to the south and return
to the other side. Go right than north. See the guardian? Defeat the
sword and move him onto the switch. Go south and defeat the lone enemy.
Now go north past the guardian on the switch and take the first left you
see. Continue left, than north, than right, than north. Defeat the
final enemy for a dark space to transform into Will. Save again. Go
south of the guardian where you beat the 'lone enemy'. Jump off the
ledge in this area. Head north and defeat the three final enemies to
get a HP power up. Go down the ramp and take the bottom jump to the
crystal. The top jump leads to an elusive herb. Exit this area.
Now you are back in the main area. You should notice four little holes
(two on each side) in the center of the main room. Place all four
crystals to create a pathway to a nice little surprise. But save before
meeting with your surprise. Keep with Freedan and watch out for the
disintegrating bridge and move with haste.
*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP
Compared to Castoth, Viper is much easier! But he is still repulsive!
Dodge the feathers and hit him when he swoops in. He is easy to dodge
so don't take to long on the defense. Spend most of your time on the
offense and pummel this sorry excuse for a bird taking a few hits along
the way. Try to avoid using herbs. One may be necessary but its
possible to beat him using none. This fight takes about thirty seconds
and is real fast paced so hopefully your not the strategic type.

Seaside Palace

Monsters: Skuddle - 12, Slipper - 8
Head east to a dark space. Head to the room on the far right for a red
jewel. HINT: Talk to everyone as you make your way down to the bottom.
Head left and take the stairway to the left. To the right is another
red jewel. Go back down and take the stairway to the right. Take a
right and skip the first doorway. Skip the second one for now and enter
the to the far right to meet up with Lilly. Now enter the second
stairway. Head left and take the only stairs. Head left and enter the
only door. Head right and go down the stairs. You will meet your first
enemies of the palace. But you don't get any power ups here, so feel
free to ignore them. Skip the first door and enter the stairway on the
left side. Search the middle coffin, than the one on the far right for
a purification stone. Directions to key: Leave room. Go left and take
the stairs leading up. Go right and take stairs leading up. Go left and
take stairs leading up. Go right and take stairs leading up. Take a
second right and take stairs leading up. Take a left to some stairs
leading down. Take a left and climb the stairs to the man. Talk to him
and get the key. Go back to the dark space, use it, and use the key to
the left of the dark space.

Mu
-----------------------------
Monsters: Skuddle - 12, Slipper - 8, Cyclops - 25, Flasher - 22
Note: I will be asking you to do a lot of back tracking, so make sure
you know what you are doing. I will give directions to the important
areas.
Welcome to Mu! Exit to the left. Start off by going right beating all
the slimes in your path. Than take the narrow path to the south
surrounded by water on two sides. Defeat the rock guardian to the left
to create a passage to the right. Go right taking note of the small
hole in the wall to the south. Than go north. Exit the screen to the
right. Continue right and go south to a treasure chest. Its empty!
The nerve....Go north to find more enemies and a flashing ring. Go
south, beat the two guardians and move the flashing ring with your
flute. By defeating the gray blobs to the south you'll create a pathway
allowing you to move further south. Go left and meet up with two more
rock guardians. Stay vigilant and defeat them. Continue left and exit
the screen to the south. As you head right on this screen heed the
spikes. I died for the first time in this game because of them! Ignore
the small chamber for now and continue right. Move the flashing ring
south with your flute. Head left and defeat the blobs. Than backtrack
and take the other path leading south to defeat two rock guardians.
Head left and defeat all the blobs. Take the first path to the north to
defeat the rock guardian and the disappearing enemy. Than head back and
take the second path leading north to a treasure chest...Which is
empty...(the nerve of enix sometimes). Exit the screen to the left.
Here you will find two stone heads set at 90 degrees. Follow the line
of their gaze and stand on that spot and push A to find the statue of
hope (Located about 12 steps from the bottom statue)! Head back to the
small chamber I told you to ignore earlier. Set the statue and the
water level lowers. Head right from the house of hope and go down the
first ramp you see. Defeat the four blobs. Go back up. Go past the
part with the spikes and exit that area. Backtrack until you see the
first incline. Go down it and go left than south beating the guardian
on the way. More spikes are ahead! Time your run and you should be
fine. Before using the dark space defeat the three blobs to the north.
Enter it and remember its location! Change to Freedan and save! Run
back across the spikes and go north than right, and finally south. Take
a left and look out for the fireball thing. Exit the screen to the
south. Continue south, take a right and defeat the enemies and take the
path to the south. Use the flashing circle and bounce off of it,
quickly push the control pad up twice to make Freedan run up the ramp.
Defeat the guardian and go down the ramp to the left. Exit the screen
to the left. Head left and defeat the slime in the middle. Now you can
slay the other four. Exit the screen to the south. Continue south and
hit the switch to the left. Run quickly north than right than south to
cross the spikes! Exit the screen to the right. As you head right,
take note of the small opening in the wall. Head south from here. Exit
the screen to the left. Continue left than head north avoiding the
traps. Exit the screen to the north. Use the dark space to learn
psycho slide. Now you can slide through the small openings! Head back
to the small opening I told you to take note of earlier. Slide under it
and head right, south, left, south and right. Move the flashing circle
so you can get up the ramp. Head left, north and right. Than south.
Defeat the four rock guardians and head left. Vanquish all the gray
blobs to reveal a statue. Continue south. Go left keeping an eye
peeled for spikes. Subdue the annoying rock guardian to reveal a second
statue. Beating all the enemies in this area gets you a str. up. Just
to the left of the spikes and next to the rock on the right is where the
statue of hope is.
*****Here is a picture of what I am talking about. Thanks to Steve who
I mentioned in my credits for this wonderful picture!

you slid through earlier and slide through it again. Backtrack and go
left than north to a ramp. Take it to the second house of hope. Place
the second statue. Exit and take the ramp to the south. A red jewel!
Travel back to the dark space where you learned psycho slide. Take the
ramp to the south. Defeat all the enemies for a HP power up. Slide
through the opening to the west of the dark space. Exit to the right.
Beat all the enemies in this area for a def. power up. Head north and
exit this screen. Continue north and take a right. Take a north

north to a ramp, defeat the guardian at the top. Defeating all the
enemies in this area gets you a HP power up. Now open the chest for
Rama stone 2. Head back to the dark space and save if you need to. You
should change to Freedan. But you can't do it at this dark space!
You'll have to head back all the way to the first one (its worth it).
*****I would like to take the time to thank Steve once again for letting
me use this information that Nathanael Neisen sent him. Here are some
directions to getting to that dark space near the boss room:
Head left, then down to the next screen. Go past the fire chains, and
to the next screen. Keep going, IGNORE THE HOLE IN THE FLOOR, and head
around and left to the next screen. Hit the switch, go past the spikes,
and up to the next screen. Head right to the next screen. Go right, up
the ramp, down the blue ramp, up, left, and up to the next screen. Keep
going until you see the brown ramp. Don't go up it. Instead, head
left, down, past the spikes, and in to the Dark Space to transform into
Freedan! Now just backtrack to the boss room, save along the way, and
enjoy!
Go down the ramp one more time and head south. Than right, defeating
all the enemies in this area gets you a def. power up. Exit the screen
to the right. Continue right and go north. Place the Rama statues.
Talk to Rama, than everyone, than Rama. Enter the door to the north.
*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP each
Two Vampires!!! Going through all that trouble to change into Freedan
was worth it. He does more damage which is quintessential in such a
tough battle. Avoid the combination attack at all costs! It takes one
third your HP away (you'll know it when you see it, Its a huge ball
thats quite easy to avoid). Concentrate on one at a time. Stay near
the intersections so you can dodge the attacks. Hide around the corners
and fire friar shots when possible. Try to avoid using herbs. I used
one and I probably didn't have to. But don't feel bad if you use only
one. No more than one though. Cutting either wire at the end of the
fight is fine. Than try exiting to the south.

Talk to Lance and suggest a necklace when he asks. Talk to everyone in
this room than climb the ladder. Head left and climb down the ladder.
Use the stairs to the far right. Enter the first door you see to the

continue left and enter the other door. Head left and enter a room with
a dark space. The room to the far right is Ishtar's Studio. Say yes to
the woman and enter.
Monsters: Ramskull - 10, Draco - 10, Steel Bones - 20, Dive Bat - 10
Kill all the enemies as you head right. Go down the stairs at the end
of the room. As you head left in the next room, destroy all the
enemies. Take the stairs at the end of the room. Head right, defeating
all the monsters in this area gets you a str. power up. Go down the
stairs at the end of the room. Beat all the enemies in this area. Take
the stairs at the far right. Beat the three enemies here and take the
stairs back up. Head left and take the next stairs you see. Beat the
enemies and take the stairs to the right You get a str. power up! Now
go back to the previous room and take the stairs up. Go left and take
the first stairs you see. Take the stairs to the right. Beat all the
enemies for a HP power up. Go back up both stairs. Go back to the room
that was dark. Go down the stairs to the right. Pass the first statue
you see. About four steps from the flame that appears after the statue
is a part of the wall you can break with Will's psycho dash. Enter the
newly created door and go right, defeat all the monsters to receive a
def. power up. Use your psycho slide to slide through the hole left of
the door to pick up a red jewel! Now enter the door to the right. Your
in the wind tunnel, so run! Use your psycho slide to take care of the
two enemies and get a HP power up. Enter the door and head right.
Defeat the plethora of enemies for a def. power up. Use your psycho
slide to slide through the small passage. Head right to the second to
last statue. About four steps over is a part of the wall that can be
destroyed with psycho dash. Hint: Listen for the waterfall. Head right
and enter the first door...Than the second door to get a red jewel in
the jar to the left...Than the third door. Took to Ishtar and enter the
door to the north. There are eight doors split into four sections in
this room. Proceed from left to right until you get to the eighth. The
first door in each section, you just observe the room. The second door
in each section, while they may seem similar, actually have a small
difference. I'll tell you what you need to look for in each puzzle:
1 - Point to the blue jar in the top right corner
2 - Point to the blue jar to the left of Will.
3 - Point to the chest, make sure you get the herb and red jewel out of
the chests.
4 - Point to Will's hair.
Return to Ishtar's room and open the chest for some magic dust.
Sprinkle it on the picture of Kara. Talk to Neil when you are ready.

night :)! Well, follow your friend.

the middle stairs leading up. Go right and up some more stairs. Go
left and enter the middle door. Defeat the two snakes and the fireball.
Go back down and enter the door to the far left. Take some more stairs
leading up. Go right until you see a shinny object. Pick it up! Take
the second to last door from the left, hit the switch. Go left and up
the stairs. Now go left and take the last set of stairs you see leading
up. Go left and up some more stairs. Go right and defeat the final
enemy for a HP power up and watch out for some spears. try to exit to
the right....Continue right and take the stairs going down. Open the
chest for a herb and head right beating all the enemies. Go back up the
stairs and continue right going down all the ramps that are lined up
like a staircase. Go down the stairs, go left. Defeat all the enemies,
hit the switch and exit to the right. Go down all three sets of stairs
and defeat the enemies than jump down the pit. Defeat the two archers

to the left. Exit the screen to the left. Use psycho spin but stop at
the first door you see. Enter, go left and go down the stairs. Kill
all the enemies to the right. Head left, hit the two switches and run
before the spear traps you. Continue left beating all the enemies for a
HP power up. Use the dark space and change into Freedan. Back track to

dark space and change to Will. Head up the stairs. Go left and go up
the stairs. Use Will's psycho slide to get over the ramp. Jump off the
two ledges.
*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP
Hit the Sand Fanger when he comes out of the ground than get out of the
way! When he dives back down you can't hit him and he can hurt you by
taking four HP. When he pops his head out of the ground to spit out
eggs, thats your cue to trounce him with all you've got. Sometimes he
sends little baddies out, but with no more than five HP each, they are
taken care of rather abruptly. This is an overall easy battle. DO NOT
use any herbs! Mystic Statue number four! Climb the ladder to the
right. Head right and down the stairs. Head left. Talk to Lilly than
Lance. After, exit to the right.

the line? Enter the door just to the right. Exit and cut ahead of the
two people with green hair. Wait for about two or three minutes. Once
you get in, your HP augments by a point and you can increase the potency
of your dark friar! Exit this place and head right. Take a turn south
than left at the alley. At the end of the alley there is a red jewel.
Go back to Watermia and talk to Lance for another red jewel. Go back to
Euro. Remember where you got that red jewel in the alley? Go back to
the alley. Head in the house just to the right of the location and
Erasquez will mark Mt.Kress on your map! Head to the upper right
corner. There should be a man who tells you no outsiders are aloud.
Just below him there is a gap between two buildings. Follow the path
left and up to a ladder. Enter the door and move the statue. Search
the barrel on the bottom right corner. You are free to exit town.

left and up the stairs. Jump off the platform. Go left and north.
Notice the enemy that just keeps spinning. Head back to where you
entered this room and go right, than north than right. Defeat all the
monsters and exit at the northeast. Use Freedans dark friar to get hard
to reach enemies. Defeat them all for a def. power up. Continue north
to a dark space. Remember the enemy that was spinning? Earthquake his
sorry butt and take the path to the north that he has been blocking.
Defeating all the enemies in this area gets you a HP power up. Head up
the stairs for a red jewel. Head south. Take the right path that is
leading south. Defeat the two enemies for a str. power up. Continue
right and exit to the north. Check out the skeleton in the top left
corner for a hint! Jump off the ledge to the left and right to defeat
the two enemies. Head north and back inside. Once inside, go north a
little bit, left, north, right, south, right, north past the stairs,
right, south, left, south, right, south, left, south. Defeat all the
enemies for a str. power up. Head down the stairs and take the ones to
the right. Defeat the enemy for a def. power up. Look for a shinny
object on the ground and equip it. With the crystal glasses you can
head back to the stairs you skipped just a little while earlier. Make
sure to equip them. Go up those stairs and head right, south and drop
down the pit to a dark space. Change to Will. Head back up. Take a
left this time and go south, left, north, left, south. Use psycho slide
to advance. Head right and jump down the pit for a red jewel. Head
back up and retrace your steps but go south after using psycho slide.
Go right than north, right, south, right up stairs. Take a left, south,
right, the second path to the south, left. Defeating all the enemies
gets you a HP power up. Than go north up the stairs for a red jewel.

game and Neil's house is Gem. Now go right of the snake panic game.

right above them? Just above him is a red jewel, make sure you touch
the bushes. To the left of your house is a save point. Use it if you
need to. You are now free to leave Dao.

*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP
Use Freedan's Friar shot! Jump off the ledge when she expands outwards.
Keep in a constant motion of attack, jump and dodge and keep that
mentality throughout the fight. You shouldn't need any herbs! But she
causes earthquake which you should heed. It causes stones to fall from
the ceiling, but can be easily dodged by jumping off the ledge. Move
back and forth from left to right and evade her energy balls. When she
turns into the ring of spirits, hit the one that isn't flashing. When
they chase you, wait until the last second and jump off the ledge before
they hit you. Use good judgment to avoid them on the ground. The
teleporters are very handy to avoiding them! After you will get Mystic
Statue five!

Tower of Babel

Search the alter where your flute was found for red jewel number 50!
Try walking into the door to the right. Pick up, equip and use the
crystal ring to get past the beams. Face all the guardians again. Use
the same strategy as before. It should be much easier with beefed up
stats and a power house like Shadow. I beat Viper and Sand Fanger
without getting hit once. I almost beat Castoth perfectly but he took 8
HP away at the end. The vampires gave me more than I bargained for so I
had to use a herb mid way through the fight with the mummy. Limit
yourself to one herb! If you escape the vampire fight with more than 20
HP, you may not even need to use a herb! After all five guardians are
conquered, head to the top. Save at the last dark space! You have one
of two options, one which will be explained in the next section. Make
your way to the rooftop of this gargantuan tower!
*****************Boss Fight - 20 HP
Very simple! Use shadow and hit the it many times and avoid the
fireballs that fall. You will be done before you know it!
*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP
When his mouth opens, beat him mercilessly! Melt when he shoots a light
beam. Kill the blue bubbles off as quick as possible! If you saved
your herbs like I said, this will be easy! I had eight when I faced him
and used two or three.
-----------------------------
Secret Dungeon and Boss
-----------------------------
If you have 50 red jewels and are at the last dark space. Talk to the
spirit to the left of the dark space and return to Dao. Talk to Gem and
you are transported to a secret dungeon! There are a few platforms to
jump off of and a few times that you will need to use psycho slide. But
all and all, this is a straight foward dungeon. Anyways, Battle your
way through the monster packed mansion and meet up with Solid Arm!
***Thanks to Tragician (
[email protected]) for some more
information on Solid Arm. It turns out he is the first boss in Soul
Blazer. I have never played that game :).
*****************Boss Fight - 40 HP
Solid Arm is very very arduous! Don't use the middle belt, it moves you
into his sweeping arm and you will most likely die. Instead, lure him
to one side by standing under the belt and blocking his fireballs with
your flute. Run up the belt and hit him and move out! He has two main
attacks, a fireball which either A. Moves at a 45 degree angle and
changes direction about halfway or B. Three that move down than head
towards you when they reach the bottom platform. He also hits you with
his arms if you get to close, all the while hitting you with a barrage
of fireballs. If you are caught sleeping, he will beat you down with
rapid fire shooting. He attacks quickly and with precision. This
battle may end in a matter of seconds! So prepare yourself and try to
limit yourself to five or six herbs.

Boss List

1. Castoth - Found in the Incan Ruins
2. Viper - Found in the Sky Garden
3. Jack and Silvana (Vampires) - Found in Mu
4. Sand Fanger - Found in Great Wall
5. Mummy Queen - Found in Pyramid
6. Solid Arm - A secret boss, collect 50 red jewels
7. Comet - The Stars above the Tower of Babel
8. Dark Gaia - Fight after Comet, last boss
-----------------------------
Boss strategy with HP amounts
-----------------------------
Castoth - 40 HP
Viper - 40 HP
Compared to Castoth, Viper is much easier! But he is still repulsive!
Dodge the feathers and hit him when he swoops in. He is easy to dodge
so don't take to long on the defense. Spend most of your time on the
offense and pummel this sorry excuse for a bird taking a few hits along
the way. Try to avoid using herbs. One may be necessary but its
possible to beat him using none. This fight takes about thirty seconds
and is real fast paced so hopefully your not the strategic type.
Jack and Silvana - 40 HP each
Two Vampires!!!
Sand Fanger - 40 HP
Mummy Queen - 40 HP
Comet - 20 HP
Very simple! Use shadow and hit the it many times and avoid the
fireballs that fall. You will be done before you know it!
Dark Gaia - 40 HP
When his mouth opens, beat him mercilessly! Melt when he shoots a light
beam. Kill the blue bubbles off as quick as possible! If you saved
your herbs like I said, this will be easy! I had eight when I faced him
and used two or three.

Tips
-----------------------------
These are some Tips that will really help you in the game.
1. Search every jar, vase, barrel, ect. you never know what you'll find!
2. Explore every last inch of the dungeon your in.
3. Defeat all the enemies on the screen to increase stats and open up
passages and secret doors.
4. Talk to everyone, not only that, but talk to people more than once,
you never know what else they may say.
5. Switch Characters to tackle tough obstacles. Remember, Freedan has
real long reach with his sword and Shadow has aura!
6. Save! Use dark spaces when ever you can, you never know whats around
the corner! I will personally tell you to save at key points, heed my
warning!
7. DO NOT use your herbs after being hit by regular enemies, save them
for boss fights.
8. Get all the red jewels you can, for help, check my red jewel location
section.
9. Use L and R to defend, It really helps and its amazing how many
people neglect this.
10. If enemies are decimating you, learn the attack pattern and plan
from afar. Remember, brains are better than brawn.
11. Don't walk into a new area and expect to just pummel an enemy. This
usually gets you killed quickly. Sometimes, moving slower and using
strategy is the best way to go.
12. You can beat the Sand Fanger and Viper in a matter of seconds,
literally, but take your time with the other guardians, trying to defeat
them quickly usually gets you defeated.
13. Don't give up, If your beaten, remember that you have dark gems to
back you up!

Common problems
-----------------------------
These are just a few of the prolific amounts of problems that people
will have. If its not here, do not worry, email me and I will add it!
The fisherman in South Cape isn't catching the red jewel!!!
--This is common, but don't fret! Usually, it appears after you return
from Edward Castle. Be patient!
**Edward Prison/Dungeon**
What the heck am I supposed to do locked up in prison?
--Talk to everything in sight! The wall, the moss, the ball and chain,
the door, eventually you will get your daily rations and drift off to
sleep. When you awake, head to the door, its Hamlet to the rescue!!!
Those statue heads are in the way!
--Use your telekinetic powers to move one block up.
I hit the floor switch and nothing happened!
--Jump on it from above
I can't hit the switch with Will's flute
--Head to the pier that is to the left. Head into the Dark space to
gain a new power! Use Freedan's long sword!
**Itory Village**
What do I do in the stupid cave?
--Use psycho dash to open the back wall.
**Incan Ruins**
Those stupid statues are blocking my way to the treasure and I can't use
Will's telekinetic powers!
--Psycho dash all the statues.
What do I do in the room with the four gold plates and the four gold
statues?
--Use Will's telekinetic power's to move the statues on to the plate.
But don't get to close to them, or they will awake and attack you! Put
three statues on the tiles, than have Will stand on the fourth one.
What do I do after I blow the wind melody, all I see is a flashing
tile!!!
--Stand on it for while
**Diamond Mine**
There is an enemy I can't defeat with Will in the second room.
--Head right and proceed down the stairs. Go north and you will see a
dark space. Use psycho dash to break through into the second chamber!
Now you can change into Freedan!
I can't find the mine key in the left room!
--In the bottom right corner next to a corpse you will see something
shinning. Its the mine key!
**The Sky Garden**
I am stuck and have no where to go!
--If you are stuck, there is a second side! If Will steps off the edge,
he flips to the other side!
I am trying to get crystal number two, but I can't get to the dark
space!!
--Use Freedan to hit the switch on the backside from a distance so you
don't get trapped.
In the third crystal area, there is a switch, but how do I get to it?
Spin your flute to move the statue in the blocked off area onto the
floor switch.
**Mu**
Those darn flashing rings are in my way!
--Use these to bounce off of and run up hills. You can also hit then
out of the way or use Will's flute to pull the towards you.
Whats up with those two statues?
--They are set at 90 degrees, follow the line of their gaze and stand on
that spot to get the statue.
**Angel Village**
How do I get to Ishtar?
--The flames bend towards the exit.
I think I'm at a dead end.
--Look for the wind to blow Will's hair. Also, listen for the
waterfall, than you will know where to use psycho dash.
**Mount Kress**
What do I do about those broken vines?
--Use the magic mushroom drops.

say Land Stalker is good, but I've only played a few minutes of it. If
you can import, check out Tresure Hunter G, Seiken Denestu 3 and Tales

*I know I haven't played it, but it would only make sense to mention it
since it was antecedent of Illusion of Gaia.

Why did I write this faq?
-----------------------------
I really can't put it finger on it. Call it boredom, or maybe just for
attention, or maybe to get my name out into the gaming community. I
choose this game because it was fairly easy, short and linear. In other
words, I probably covered everything this game has to offer. There are
other games I could have done, but I wanted to do my first faq on
something easy. I must say, I pretty much went on instinct and wasn't
even sure I wanted to do this after the first day. It is a lot of hard
work, but addicting once you see all the work you have done. I will
always improve on this faq and I like the way its heading! I think I
will do my second faq on Secret of Mana, but give me some time to
stretch and crack some of my bones...Ahhhhhh!
