FIREPOWER 2000
Complete walkthrough

Game by Sunsoft
Guide by Wolfgang Abenteuer ( [email protected] )

This game is fairly simplistic. You just drive or fly around in a jeep or
helicopter, respectively, and shoot up a bunch of machines with different
weapons. There are six levels in total, and each level has an ending boss.
To win the game you simply have to play through all six levels. Like I said,
simplistic, no?

USING THIS GUIDE:

This guide is fairly straightforward, much like the game it's about. I listed
the levels in chronological order so if you want to skip to a level just
scroll down to find it or use Ctrl + F to search for 'LEVEL 1', etc. If you're
stuck on a boss fight, you can either find it at the end of its respective
level or just Ctrl + F for 'BOSS 1', etc.

THE BASICS:

Jeep vs. Heli:

Player 1 gets the Jeep, and player 2 gets the Heli in a 2 player game. In a
single-player game, around which this guide is based, you will control the
Jeep, so the strategies listed will be a little different for the Heli player
in a two-player game. The Jeep is, of course, a land-based vehicle so it has
more obstacles than the Heli, which flies. The Jeep needs to watch out that it
doesn't crash into tanks, other jeeps, crates, bubbles, lava, or fall down
pits. The advantages, however, are that most aircraft are not a threat to it
unless they shoot some sort of ammunition. Many of the helicopters and jets
that appear in this game are essentially unarmed and will just fly past the
screen. For the Heli this means they must either be avoided or shot, but for
the Jeep they just fly harmlessly past. The main advanatage of the Jeep is
that it can rotate its turret to shoot diagonally, to the side, or even
straight down, while the Heli can only shoot straight forward. To rotate the
Jeep's turret, simply release the fire button and steer the Jeep in the
direction you want to shoot, and then resume firing. So long as the fire
button is held down, the Jeep will continue to shoot in that direction.

Main Weapons:

You start off the game with three weapons - Bullet, Plasma, and Flame, each on
level 1, and Bullet is selected. Throughout the levels you will find yellow
crates that contain powerups that can enhance the performance of these weapons
as well as give you new ones. Each time you die, you lose one level on each of
your main weapons until they are at zero, with the exception of Bullet, which
can never go below 1. The main weapons, which never run out of ammo and range
from levels 1 to 7 depending on how many powerups you've collected, are as
follows:

Bullet - The basic weapon, but a very useful one. It fires a bullet that looks
like some sort of rocket. The higher levels allow you to shoot more bullets
faster, and on level 5 and above it begins to shoot bullets a bit off to
either side as opposed to in a straight line, giving you some lateral
coverage.

Plasma - Basically an upgraded Bullet. Plasma shoots a stream of bluish-white
spheres. On level 4 this shoots three streams and on level 6 it shoots five
streams. This is the weapon with the most lateral coverage and is the best
choice for dealing with multiple low-health targets that come at you all at
once, which is a common occurrence.

Flame - Essentially a flamethrower. It has the least amount of range of
anything in the game, but is the most powerful. You won't be getting a whole
lot of use out of this, although early on when you don't have Laser it helps
against very durable foes. Higher levels of this weapon give longer range and
wider flame, but still not enough to cover a big range. Still, if you don't
mind getting up close and personal with your enemies, Flame will serve you
well.

Laser - THE premier weapon against the tougher enemies. This weapon shoots a
green laser beam that has almost no lateral coverage, but will obliterate
anything in its path, and is the only main weapon in the game that can pierce
through enemies, hitting things on the other side. Lower levels of this weapon
have too long of a pause between pulses to make it useful, but higher levels
make it almost a continuous stream of death. This is the weapon of choice for
most bosses and any lesser enemy that is durable.

Ionic - Possibly the most useless weapon in the game by my reckoning, and only
available in the last two levels to boot. This shoots out an orange-coloured
beam that, upon contact with an enemy, splits into two other beams that take
off laterally from the point of impact. On higher levels, those beams will
also split into two smaller beams and shoot off vertically. The problem is
this feature has very little use in the game. If you're facing a weak enemy
Plasma will serve you much better since it fires faster and covers more of the
screen, Laser or Flame is far better against tougher enemies because the
damage Ionic deals out is low, and it doesn't fire as fast as Plasma or
Bullet. Unless there's something I'm missing with this weapon, you're better
off with ANY of the other weapons, even Flame.

Special Weapons:

There are four special weapons that can be released using the X button, but
unlike the main weapons their ammunition is finite. You can only get them by
collecting the powerups found inside the yellow crates.

(X) - This weapon, the most commonly found, shoots out three small missiles
straight forward in the direction you're facing. Not very useful, really.

(H) - This shoots out a bunch of homing missiles that seek enemies around you.
They don't really deal enough damage to make them worthwhile against larger
foes, but they're useful against a bunch of smaller, lower-health enemies.

(S) - This releases a jet of flame in a circular pattern that roasts anything
and everything around you. By far the most useful and damaging special weapon,
but much like the main weapon Flame, has limited range. Anything in its range,
however, will be reduced to dust.

(J) - Not really a weapon at all, this powerup only shows up after you've
killed the cover of the core, and is used to end the game. The icon will come
floating down and you use X to shoot it at the hole in the core.

Bubbles and Crates and Stars (oh my!):

There are three other powerup items in this game to watch out for. Bubbles are
glowing spheres on the ground that, when shot, release a small glowing bubble
that can either be collected to make the player invincible for a short period
of time or be shot to nuke the screen and kill all enemies on it. As a Jeep
player, be sure not to run into it before you release the actual bubble or you
will die. If you collect a bubble while you already have one around you it
will simply act as though you shot it and will nuke the screen.

Crates are yellow rectangular boxes on the ground that release powerup items
when destroyed. These powerups will either give you more power with one of
your main weapons or will give you ammo for a special weapon. Be sure to bust
up all the crates because you'll need as much firepower as you can get!

Stars are a small collectible item that will appear when you destroy certain
enemies througout the level, usually ones that are especially difficult or
durable. Collecting the Star gives you 200 points, and when you beat the boss
of the level you get an additional 1000 points for each Star you collected
during the level. You get an extra life at 50,000 points, 200,000 points, and
from then on you get another extra life every 200,000 points, so grab those
Stars!

WALKTHROUGH:

****LEVEL 1****

As soon as the plane drops you off, head to the right edge of the screen to
find a supply crate. Destroy it for three Bullet. Your first threat will be
a bunch of helicopters that don't actually shoot anything, so use your Bullet
to kill them, or just let them pass. Keep fighting past the tanks and
helicopters for a while. A good idea is to stay out of the middle of the
screen and instead stick to one side. A lot of the bigger threats will appear
in the middle. You'll soon come up against a missile battery in the middle of
the road. Shortly after you'll meet a formation of helicopters which will
situate in the middle and fire shots at you. You can destroy them all if you
wish, but it's easiest to just destroy the one in front (it looks different
from the others) and the rest will scatter. After that, head to the right side
of the screen to find a bubble. Stick to the right side of the screen and
you'll come up against another supply crate with two Flames and three (X)
weapons. Quickly switch to the Flame and destroy as much as you can of the
train that passes by. Each car you destroy will give you a Star, and Flame 3
really chews through it. Collect all the stars and head to the left side of
the screen, but beware of the flamethrower turrets that pop out of the ground
right after the train tracks. Shortly after the turrets you'll come across
a supply crate with three Plasma and three (X). Collect them all and head back
to the right side. After a few more missile batteries you'll see another
bubble. Keep going ahead and you'll come up against three more missile
batteries and a ditch behind them, along with another one of those annoying
helicopter sets.

Shortly after you cross the ditch, you'll come up against some more train
tracks which, of course, means another train. It won't show up until the
tracks are at the bottom of the screen, so use that time to destroy all the
flame turrets on the other side of it, then switch to Flame and point your
turret to the left. Once you're done barbecuing the train and collecting the
Stars, beware of the lone green helicopter that shows up in the middle of the
screen and try not to get too close to it. It shoots out spheres in eight
directions and these will kill you instantly. Either destroy it before it can
do this or stay away from it. Whichever you choose, you'll want to head to the
right side and get the bubble that's on the other side of the ditch (but
beware of another green helicopter which will appear). With the bubble around
you, head to the middle of the screen to find a supply crate. Now, you can
destroy the crate straight away, or if you feel you have enough firepower
(preferably Flame 3), you can wait for a while and watch as a big yellow
dropship comes from the top of the screen and picks it up. The dropship is
large, VERY durable, and has a decent amount of armament. Once it picks up the
crate it will fly back and forth across the screen, shooting out rockets,
large spheres, and small spheres. Eventually, if you don't destroy it, it will
fly off the bottom of the screen, along with the crate and its contents! The
benefit to allowing the dropship to appear and grab the crate is that not only
do you get a Star for destroying the dropship, but it also adds one extra
Plasma and one extra (H) to the crate, so if you feel you can destroy the ship
before it becomes a bother, allowing it to grab the crate can be beneficial.
The crate normally contains two Plasma and three (H) if you destroy it without
the dropship.

After the Plasma crate, the ground will change to desert. At this point, you'd
be wise to not stay at the bottom of the screen because some jeeps will come
up behind you and they will destroy you if you touch them. Head to the left
side of the screen. Soon you'll come across some black orbs moving slowly down
the screen. These are very durable, but are no threat to the Jeep, so destroy
them if you wish. Beware of the big green mounted turrets that will start
showing up. They spit out a lot of big spheres at you which can be destroyed
but are still dangerous. The turrets themselves can be destroyed as well, but
are durable. Hopefully you'll have Plasma 7 at this time which will quickly
destroy the spheres and make quick work of the turrets as well. Each turret
will release a Star when killed.

Shortly after that you'll meet up with some missile batteries which pop out of
the top of some pyramids. The missiles they shoot aren't homing, but they're
dangerous nonetheless. Destroy them for some Stars. Also beware of the train
tunnel you're about to come across, because the train moves quickly through
there and will destroy the Jeep if it is caught in the middle. Unlike the
trains earlier in this level, this one is completely destroyed when you shoot
it (although it's still durable) and only leaves one Star. Also be careful of
the helicopters that are on the helipads, because they'll shoot a homing
missile at you when they take off. After you pass the first train, head to the
right and pick up the bubble there. You'll want it as protection when you head
through the next section. You'll soon come up against some large laser battery
emplacements on either side of the screen, which shoot (you guessed it) lasers
at a fairly rapid tempo. Destroy these as quickly as possible so you don't
have to drive in between all them while they're all firing. Killing them will
also produce a Star.

After a few more trains, head to the right side of the screen to find more
sphere turrets, and eventually a supply crate containing three (S) and three
(X). After that you'll come up against a bunch of helipads with helis taking
off. Destroy them with Plasma 7 before they can do so. Another screen length
or so, you'll hear the music change and the screen will slow down. This means
boss fight time. Before you completely approach the boss, kill the missile
turrets in the middle of the screen.

***BOSS 1***

The big laser turret on the front of this boss is destructible, but I'd
advise not destroying it unless you're playing with the Heli. With the Jeep
the best strategy is to stay on either the left or right side of the screen
and point the turret at the door on the side you picked. When the door opens
up to let out the missile cars, lay into it with your most powerful weapon
(most likely Plasma 7). Be careful to avoid or destroy the missiles that the
cars shoot at you. When the boss flashes you'll know it's taking damage. When
he starts to shoot spheres out from the middle you'll know you're getting
close to victory. Note that if you destroyed the laser turrets in the middle
it will spit out helicopters at random intervals instead of shooting lasers
which is more dangerous and harder to avoid than the lasers are, which simply
shoot straight down. Once this boss goes down, it's on to level 2.

****LEVEL 2****

This is a jungle level, but the premise is the same. If you've died a lot up
to this point and don't have at least one good high-powered weapon (either
Plasma or Bullet), this first section will be a chore. You're going to meet
up with some very durable tanks and weapons platforms, as well as a lot of
helicopters. First off are the tank-like platforms that pop this spinning red
disc out the top, which whirls around the screen shooting spheres at you. They
can be destroyed, but they are difficult to hit since they're so small and
they move quickly, and besides that they're durable as well. They're best to
be avoided, but if you manage to kill one it'll cough up a Star. As well,
you'll meet some very large tanks that fire unguided rockets at you, but since
they can only aim in eight directions it's easy to get into their blind spots
and wail on them. They're also durable, but they're big and they don't move,
so they're much easier to destroy than the discs. They also pop out a Star
when destroyed. After you've fought through a couple of these, head to the
left side of the screen and you'll find a supply crate hidden in some bushes.
Inside is four Bullet and three (X).

When you bust up this crate, don't be too eager to go collect all the stuff,
though, because a bunch of helicopters will come charging down from the top of
the screen. These things are pretty nasty since they are fairly durable, as
far as helicopters go, they move around the screen erratically, AND they fire
spheres at you. When enough of these get on the screen at once it can get kind
of hairy, but hopefully you can kill them before they become too much of a
threat. After you've weathered that storm, you'll come up against another
supply crate in the middle of the screen. Same deal as level 1, a dropship
will kidnap it if you allow it to. This crate contains four Flame
and three (S) (again, one extra of each if you allow the dropship to grab it
and then destroy it). Head to the right side of the screen to find a bubble.
Get it because it'll help you against the next threat you'll see.

You'll come up against some little cross-shaped machines playing leapfrog
across the screen (sounds hokey, but that's basically what they are). They're
easily destroyed and will leave a Star when they blow up. Beware of the planes
that come flying in groups of five diagonally towards the bottom of the
screen, however, because they come in fast and even with Plasma 7 they're hard
to take down quickly. To stay safe, remain at the bottom of the screen because
these planes will shoot out spheres towards the top of the screen when they're
around the middle of the screen. If you're at the bottom you're pretty much
safe. After these planes, return to the middle of the road to find another
bubble. After the bubble you'll meet a couple more of those nasty yellow
helicopters, but the bubble should keep you safe from them. Head to the right
and you'll come across a crate inside some bushes. Bust it up for three Laser
and four (H). Laser is a VERY powerful, long-ranged weapon, but doesn't have
good lateral range so it's not as useful against swarms of small things like
jets and helis. Best to stick to Plasma or Bullet for now.

Continue on through some normal enemies, watching out for the proximity mines
and the jeeps coming from the bottom of the screen. Soon you'll see a slow-
moving brown helicopter coming up on you from the bottom of the screen. This
thing drops off a bunch of small drone planes that are brutal for the
Heli, but aren't much of an issue for the Jeep. Destroy it (it's durable, so
use Flame if you have it on a high level) and receive a Star. Then head to the
middle of the screen to find a bubble. A little later down the road you'll see
a new enemy, although they're not really tough to deal with - swiveling
missile turrets. They can take a bit of punishment, but will pop out a Star.
Keep to the right of the screen after two turrets and you'll find a bubble.
Get that bubble, lay waste to all the planes flying around, and then stay to
the middle of the screen and before your current bubble even wears out you'll
find two MORE bubbles! You can collect one and destroy the other, but don't
destroy one before you've collected one or they'll both be gone. After the
bubble duo, head to the left of the screen to find another crate, with four
(H) and three (X). Just past that, you'll come up against a convoy of the
green helis you found in Level 1 that shot in 8 directions and they'll show
up, conveniently, after your bubble has worn off. Either avoid them or kill
them (Flame works best, if you're brave enough to get that close). Right after
them, the music will change, which means...

***BOSS 2***

This boss is like a giant version of those big green planes you met earlier
this level that sort of skim back and forth across the screen and fire
spheres at you. To destroy this boss you must destroy all three of his large
laser batteries. The catch is that they are normally covered up by a shield.
You must wait until it starts to fire these lasers before you can damage them.
When it's not firing its lasers, it will be shooting sets of three spheres
from its four small pods, starting with the left pod and working its way
right. The closer you get to defeating this boss, the more spheres it shoots.
When all three lasers are alive, each pod will only shoot one salvo of three
spheres. With one laser battery destroyed, each shoots two salvos, and finally
with two lasers destroyed, each pod will shoot THREE salvos. That can be
difficult to dodge, so hopefully it won't take you too long to kill the third
battery. Also its laser fires very quickly once the shield opens up, so do NOT
be positioned directly below it or you're toast. My preference for this battle
is Laser, but feel free to try others. I'd advise against Flame, however,
since you have to get really close to use it and you will likely die when the
pods shoot.

****LEVEL 3****

This level you're fighting in a canal, and you'll start off against a group
of those horrible yellow helis. If you choose to go down the middle of the
road you're at a good risk to get munched by those, but on either side of the
canal are some small missile batteries. Personally I feel the missiles are the
lesser of the two evils, but the choice is yours. Either way, once you come up
to a bridge, head to the right. A crate under the bridge there contains three
Plasma and four (S).

After the crate a brown jet will show up at the bottom of the screen (Heli
beware) and will shoot out two missiles, which explode into spheres. Kill it
before it does this if you can. It will leave a Star when destroyed. After two
of these, you'll come up against an unusual-looking jet that almost looks like
an insect. When you 'kill' it it will break apart and fly around the screen.
'Kill' it again to destroy it for good and it'll leave you a Star. Shortly
after, you'll see a bubble on the left, so get it. After this you'll see
another bug-plane, and then another brown jet. Kill them in the normal
fashion. You'll come up to a bridge with a tank roaming across it and some
MORE of those annoying yellow choppers. Once you pass them, you'll see a crate
in the middle of the road which means, of course, dropship time! This crate
contains 5 Laser and 2 (H) (so a whopping SIX Laser if you kill the dropship).
Continue ahead and you'll spot a bubble under a bridge on the left, and
another in the open on the right. Once your bubble starts to wear out you'll
find yourself in a section with water in it, and a boat hull which your Jeep
will automatically 'leap' into when you get close.

The boat handles similarly to the Jeep and its turret can swivel all the same
but you can no longer jump with it, so be warned. Naturally, since you're on
water, the threats against you will be boats instead of tanks, but otherwise
it's the same as you've been doing. Continue to fight through the submarines
that show up (the big grey ones leave Stars) and watch out for the little
square panels that will pop up from underwater. These shoot out some strange
weapon that circles it and is hard to avoid if you're too close. Destroy these
quickly or avoid them altogether. They will leave a Star when killed, however.
Keep to the middle to avoid the shore batteries and you'll eventually come
across a bubble. A bit later some shore batteries will show up on some piers
outstretched into the water. These should be destroyed as they cannot be
completely avoided like their land-based counterparts. After a few of these,
it's boss fight time.

***BOSS 3***

This boss is a sphere underneath the water which doesn't move, but has four of
those square panels I talked about earlier along with him. The boss will pop
up out of the water briefly, which is the only time he is vulnerable, and shoot
out a ring of indestructible spheres which slowly expands to cover the entire
screen. When he first does this there will be a small opening in the ring and
you MUST get through this opening before the spheres expand or you're dead.
Once the spheres are launched the boss will resubmerge. When the spheres have
cleared the screen, the four square panels will emerge, shoot their weapon
(which is the same I mentioned earlier) and then rotate counter-clockwise
around the boss. These panels can be killed, although they are MUCH more
hearty than the ones you faced earlier, but doing so is not required to
beat this boss. If you have Laser on a high level, that will be your best
friend for this fight, as if you position yourself well you can hit two of the
square panels at once. After you hit the boss enough he will go down, just be
sure to make it in the small opening between the spheres when he shoots them.

****LEVEL 4****

This level is on a runway, so you can expect to see a lot of planes, both on
and off the ground. Start this level out by going immediately right and you'll
see a bubble. Get the bubble and keep on the right side of the screen.
Destroying the big planes that are driving diagonally down the runway will
net you a Star. After a couple of these planes you'll see a crate which
contains four Flame and four (X). Shortly after this you'll see a small jet
on a launch pad. This is your new ride, so don't be shy...hop in!

After takeoff you'll be screaming through the sky in the green jet, and note
that you can no longer turn your turret, so you can only fire straight ahead.
If you're used to flying the Heli, this shouldn't be an issue. Just keep it in
mind when you're fighting. You'll come upon some orbs that will put their
shields up immediately. Just pound away at the shields and they'll drop. High-
level Laser is a godsend here. After three of these spheres a dropship, with
crate in hand, will appear. Nuke this dropship to receive six Plasma and seven
(X). After grabbing all the Plasma, quickly switch to it and prepare for an
onslaught of jets. Remember that you're no longer in the Jeep, so these jets
can crash into you and destroy you, so either kill them or avoid them. Plasma
is ideal for dealing with these things. After a few rounds of jets, another
sphere will appear, so either switch back to Laser and take it out or just
leave it on Plasma. Shortly after dealing with the sphere, you'll come up
against some more jets and then an absolute torrent of SR-71s. These don't all
need to be destroyed, but there are a LOT of them, so at the very least stick
to one side of the screen so you don't have to deal with them all. You can
always sweep back and forth across the screen with Plasma and try to take them
all out, but it's kind of risky. Fun, though.

After dealing with those hordes of jets, you'll begin to approach another jet,
this time a very large one. It will flare up its afterburner, which is your
cue to NOT BE BEHIND IT. The afterburner will fry you if you are underneath it
when it goes off, so when it flares, just move over to one side. You will not
crash into this jet, however, so don't hesitate to go around and above the
afterburner when you get a chance. As you start to overtake the plane, you'll
notice some side panels will begin to detach and attack you. Destroy these for
Stars, but they're durable so bring some good firepower (Laser is always the
best choice for these situations). Soon you'll reach a giant propeller in the
middle of the jet. Do NOT touch this propeller or you will be killed. Continue
on past two more propellers and some more side panels, until finally you'll
hear the familiar sound of boss music.

***BOSS 4***

This boss fight begins when you reach the front of this odd-shaped jet/copter.
It will spit out a bunch of small aircraft out the front which will fly right
at you. These aren't too durable, though, so Plasma should get the job done.
Just be warned that the big craft floats around back and forth and its
propeller is still very lethal, so don't touch it or you go boom. Once all the
small aircraft are gone, the boss will pull forward a bit, allowing you to
sneak in below and hammer on its propeller. Laser is your best friend here.
When the propeller starts to draw near again, head off to one side and more
aircraft will come out the front. Repeat these two steps until the propeller
is 'destroyed' and it flies off of the rest of the aircraft.

Once separated, it will sprout a couple of wings and two very large gatling-
type guns and fly erratically about the screen. Avoid direct contact with it
and don't get hit by any of its many homing missiles. Laser is the best for
actually destroying the craft, but when you do get below it you'll have to
spend a lot of time avoiding all the missiles it shoots so you won't really
get any licks in at the boss himself. I suggest using Plasma since it can
cover a good portion of the screen and usually deal with any missiles that are
coming down as well as hurting the boss. After flying around for a while, the
boss will fly down to the bottom-left corner of the screen and start to launch
a heavy barrage of large spheres while flying diagonally up-right. This
effectively covers the whole screen in those spheres, however they are
destructable and not durable. Just stay in the bottom-right corner and spray
Plasma at him and you should be fine. He will then go back to launching
missiles. His second trick is slowly floating up the middle of the screen and
launching a barrage of small spheres (which CANNOT be destroyed) in a spiral
pattern. These can be avoided with a little care, however, and now's a good
time to get below the boss and Laser him. He'll then go back to launching
missiles, and repeating these steps. Just keep it up and he'll eventually go
down.

****LEVEL 5****

A lava level awaits you here. As soon as this level begins, head to the left
and bust open the crate to find a new weapon - Ionic. It contains three Ionic
and one (X). With these in hand, head all the way to the right to find another
crate with three more Ionic. Keep heading up the level and watch out for a
bubble in the middle. Get it and continue through the level, killing off the
rotating sentry turrets and collecting the Stars they leave you. You'll soon
come up across a river of lava which will kill you if you drive into it, so
either cross the small land bridge or jump over it. On the other side of the
second river, in addition to a bunch of enemies, you'll see another crate,
which contains two Ionic and one (X). Continue forward across another lava
river, avoiding the molten rocks that are shooting from the volcano, and yet
another crate, with two Ionic and one (S) will appear. Follow the river up and
to the left to find another crate with two Ionic and an (X). A bubble is on
the other side of the river from this, but it's probably too late to get it at
this point, so you would likely have had to forgo one of the Ionic crates to
get it. Shortly after this is ANOTHER crate, this one with two Ionic and one
(H) (gee, do you think the game wants you to have Ionic in this level?).

Keep travelling up and stick to the right side of the screen as best you can.
You'll come up to a bubble just below a grate-platform over some lava. Grab
the bubble and hop on the platform. Shoot the missile batteries on either side
of the platform and continue upwards. When you cross that river of lava, keep
to the middle of the screen and you'll come up to another lava river with a
grate platform, and there's a supply crate on the left side of the screen with
two Plasma and two (yep) Ionic. After hopping on this platform and sailing
across you'll meet up with a bridge made of the same grating as your platform.
Jump off onto it and the music will change to the boss music.

***BOSS 5***

This boss is so unbelievably easy, especially compared to the boss of Level 4,
it's almost an insult to the other bosses to call this one a boss. This boss
is basically just a giant flamethrower in the middle of the screen, which will
swivel back and forth spewing out fire. This fire does reach the edge of the
screen, so you can't out-distance it, but it fires in very predictable areas
and with the Jeep being able to swivel its turret you can just sit on the left
or right side of the screen and wail on it with Laser, Bullet, Plasma, or even
Ionic from the far corner of the screen and you won't even have to dodge the
flames but once in a while. When the turret points at you, simply go to the
far edge of the screen you're on (right or left), and then up as close to the
lava river as you can. Once the turret starts moving back the other way,
continue with the attack. As I said, this boss isn't a challenge at all.

****LEVEL 6****

This level starts out as a pain simply because you will be faced with some of
those green helicopters. There are also missile batteries on either side of
you. Hopefully you have a high level Laser because it will serve you well
here. If not, be prepared to do a lot of dodging. The missile batteries will
leave you Stars, and you'll also come up with some machines that will spit out
discs similar to those encountered in Level 2, although these machines spit
out more of them and they don't shoot, so they are no threat to your Jeep.
They also don't leave you Stars like the red ones in Level 2 did, but they
aren't really worth killing anyway. The SR-71s that appear are more of a
distraction than anything else, so unless you're flying the Heli, just ignore
them and concentrate on the green copters. After you pass the first part of
this stage you will see some small flamethrower turrets which, although easily
destroyed, will leave you Stars. Stick to the middle of the screen and you'll
come across a bubble.

Run amok while in the bubble, and eventually come across another bubble. This
one should just be used to destroy everything, otherwise it'll go to waste.
Stick to the middle of the screen and you'll come upon a crate containing
three Plasma and two Ionic, followed by another with three Laser and two
Ionic. At this point, missile jeeps will be coming up behind you, so be on
guard. This is where things can get pretty nasty. The platforms get tighter
and the threats get more prolific. Aside from the jeeps coming up behind you
there are also flamethrowers to the sides, and then more green copters ahead.
This is where a bit of prevention goes a long way. Make sure you kill the
copters before they get too close to you and are too hard to dodge. After two
such helis, you'll end up driving down a narrow platform with two flamethrower
turrets on either side. A bubble taunts you at the other end of the platform,
but be patient and try not to destroy it before you get there.

After the bubble you'll come across a small grated bridge, and BE CAREFUL
HERE. You can fall off the sides of the bridge to your death, so don't mess
around until you're safely across. After crossing you'll come across a crate
with five Bullet and three (H). Past the crate you'll meet a section where you
cannot cross a bridge but instead must jump from platform to platform. Make
sure you land on solid ground. After this peril, another skinny pathway with
flamethrower turrets on either side awaits, and the end of which is a crate
housing two Flame and two Laser. After this you must make a leap of faith to
get across to the next platform. Blast the three tanks on the other side and
get ready to face the final boss. The boss music has been playing the whole
level so there was no way to know when the boss would show up, presumably to
build your anticipation. Aren't you excited?!

***BOSS 6***

This boss isn't really a boss per se, but rather a collection of a bunch of
random enemies all in a nice, tight space. You'll face the big black orbs that
you first saw earlier this level (that break into the smaller black orbs when
destroyed), as well as the regular green helicopers, the missile jeeps coming
up from behind you and, of course, those irritating green helicopters (the
ones that shoot in eight directions). What you'll need to do here is
relenetlessly hammer on the core - that big block in the middle of the room -
until it blows up, all the while killing and/or avoiding all the other
nuisances coming at you. After a lot of punishment, and I mean a LOT of
punishment, the core will explode, but the battle isn't over quite yet. You
need to keep fending off the enemies coming at you until an icon appears at
the top of the screen and begins floating downwards towards you. Don't jump
out over the hole to grab it or you'll die, either go around the hole or just
let it float down to you. Once you have it, a new special weapon will appear
in your arsenal, marked by the letter 'J'. Once you have this, simply use your
special weapons button ( X ) to fire the weapon into the hole, and voilá!
Game, set, and match! Sit back and enjoy the 'ending'.
