1. About this FAQ and the game

I made this FAQ because of how hard it was for me to learn all of the
little bits and pieces from this game on various websites. I do not really speak
Japanese well, but I do know quite a bit about this game.
Fire Emblem was a series released only in Japan by Intellegent Systems. It
was the first of the SLG (SimuLation Game) genre, and opened the way for games
like Shining Force and Langrisser. The series had 4 releases, and may have an
additional title released on the 64 soon. The first two were released on the
Famicom (NES) in Japan in the early nineties. The last two were released on the
Super Famicom (SNES) in the mid-nineties.
With this FAQ, I hope that more English speaking people will get to play
this game, and expierance it as I did.

2. Characters

What makes this game truely unique is how there are two seperate parts. In
the first half of the story, you play the role of Siguard, and his rather motley
crew of followers, who are thrown into a rather gruesome war in the land of
Grandbell. In the second half, you play as the child of Siguard, who has to
assemble his own team. If you were able to pair your ladies with the men of
their dreams, you were able to find their children in the second half.

2A. Characters from the first half

Siguard - Lord Knight - He is the leader of the first half. You start with him.
Noish - Social Knight/Paladin - Loyal underling of Siguard. You start with him.
He has red armor and blond hair.
Alec - Social Knight/Paladin - Another of Siguards underlings. You also start
with him. He has green hair and armor.
Ardan - Sword Armor/General - He starts as the castle guardian, and is probably
the only 'ugly' good guy in the whole game.
Cyuan - Duke Knight - A very good friend of Sigurds, married to his sister,
Ethrin. He shows up in the introductory chapter.
Etherin - Trubador - Sigurds sister. Shows up in the introductory chapter.
Finn - Lance Knight/Duke Knight - The child guardian of Cyuan and Etherin. He
would throw his life down for either of them, he is the kid with the blue hair
that shows up with Cyuan and Etherin.
Rex - Axe Knight/Great Knight - Blue haired axe knight that shows up in the
intorductory chapter with Azel
Azel - Mage/Mage Knight - He uses fire magic well, and allthough he didnt
inherit the ability to use Fala's great magic like his evil brother, Arvis, he
still is a useful part of the team.
Mideel - Archer Knight/Bow Knight - The sworn protector of Edin who gets wounded
in the first chapter. You get him when you conquer the lower castle in the
introductory chapter.
Edin - Priest/Hipriest - Jamuka frees her and her friend from capture in the 1st
chapter. Shes got huge blond hair.
Deu - Theif/Thief Fighter - Little boy theif, not really all that powerful, but
can steal. Very nice. Escapes with Edin.
Ayra - Sword Fighter/Forrest - Powerful sword fighter with the mighty Twilight
hit, that causes her to attack 4 extra times in a round, sometimes, if your
lucky, she will do it twice! Her and her brother Shanon are the only two who
have this ability. You (Hopefully) get her in chapter 1.
Jamuka - Bow Fighter/Sniper - Comes with powerful bow. To get him, simply have
the female he released chat with him.
Diadora - Shaman - A mysterious girl who comes out of the forrest. She and
Siguard instantly fall in love.
Hollin - Swords Fighter/Forrest - A free roaming swords fighter who fights in
the arena for money, and for fun. If you defeat him, he will join you in chapter
2.
Lachesis - Princess/Master Knight - Joins in chapter 2, if you have Siguard talk
to her. Her three guardian paladins can be a blessing or a curse, they will help
you out by harming the enemies, but they take away precious experiance points
from your characters. If you keep them all alive, I hear you get a special ring
that allows a ground character to move again after battle, just like they were
on a horse. Neeto, eh?
Levin - Bard/Sage - Inheritor of Holsety's mighty wind magic. He comes with the
dancer Sylivia in chapter 2.
Sylvia - Dancer - Allthough she isn't too powerful, she is one of the most
useful characters in this half of the game. With her dance command, you can have
characters move TWICE in one turn. Anyone who is standing in the four spaces
around her will turn blue again if she uses her dance command.
Beowulf - Free Knight/Forrest Knight - Part of the enemy, but was a good friend
of Lachesis' brother, and Siguard's friend, Eltosian. He will join, if is paid
the correct ammount. There is another way to get him to join...
Fury - Pegisis Knight/Falcon Knight - She is another enemy, but there is a
rather simple way to have her join. Her good friend Levin may beable to convince
her.
Bridget - Hunter/Sniper - Edin's long lost sister and inheritor of Ulir's mighty
bow. She looks somewhat like Edin and joins in the 3rd chapter.
Claude - Hipriest - Inheritor of Blagu's resurection staff... very useful. Joins
in chapter 3 with Tiltyu.
Tiltyu - Thunder Mage/Mage Fighter - Inheritor of Tordo's lightning magic. Too
bad she doesnt get her chance to use it... She looks young, but her Wrath skill
packs a mean whopper of a hit if you mess with her.

2B. Characters from the Second Half (assuming everyone has kids)

Celis - Young Lord/Lord Knight - The leader of the second half, and only child
of Siguard and Diadora. He escaped in the first half with Oifaye and Shanon in
the 5th chapter.
Lackhe - Sword Fighter/Forrest - Son of Ayra, has the blood of Odo in him, but
unfortunatly, cannot use Odo's sword.
Sukasha - Sword Fighter/Forrest - Lackhe's brother. The both of them join Celis
from the start, they are his good friends.
Rana - Priest/Hipriest - Edin's daughter. Childhood friend of Celis. She starts
with the other three in chapter 6.
Oifaye - Paladin - Once was Siguard's advisor, and now is back to help Siguard's
son. He is the powerful knight that joins you in chapter 6.
Delmood - Free Knight/Forest Knight - He accompanies Oifaye, and is the son of
Lachesis. I think he looks like Hollin in some ways, but thats just me.
Lester - Archer Knight/Bow Knight - Comes with the other two knights in chapter
6. He's pretty good if you put him with a Hero's bow. Rana's Brother.
Yuria - Shaman/Sage - Looks kinda like Diadora. Inheritor of the Narga's Light
spell, though I cant remember if she gets to use it or not. She joins after you
conquer the upper right hand castle in chapter 6.
Yohan - Axe Knight/Great Knight - Joins if he talks to Lackhe (or her
replacment). I usually choose him. He is the one who comes with a whole bunch of
knights.
Yohavialier - ??? (never gotten him) ??? - I think he joins just as Yohan does,
but you have to choose so I always take the knight. He comes with a whole bunch
of barbarians (those axe guys on the ground) near the castle that Arthur and Fae
join you at.
Arthur - Wind Mage/Mage Fighter - Joins after the capture of the upper right
hand castle in chapter 6. He starts weak, but gets pretty powerful. Son of
Tiltyu.
Fae - Pegasis Knight/Falcon Knight - Joins with Arthur. Daughter of Fury.
Leif - Prince/Master Knight - Son of Ethrin and Cyaun. Starts at his castle in
chapter 7.
Nana - Trubador/Paladin - Daughter of Lachesis and sister to Delmood. Joins with
Leif and Finn.
Finn - Lance Knight/Duke Knight - Depending on what he was when he died/left the
first half is what he will show up as in the second half. He is now the sworn
protector of Etherin and Cyuan's kids, Leif and Althena.
Patty - Theif/Thief Fighter - She was really powerful for me. She is Bridget's
daughter. She inherit's her Father's items though. Joins in chapter 7, at the
begining.
Shanon - Sword Fighter - Joins with Patty. Inheritor of Odo, he is one of the
most POWERFUL characters in the game. Is little brother to Ayra.
Ares - Social Knight/Paladin - He is the inheritor of Hezul, and is pretty damn
powerful. You get him after taking the castle on the bottom of the map on
chapter 7. He is the key to getting Lynn.
Lynn - Dancer - Daughter of Sylvia, bring Ares to the castle that he comes from
after youve conquered it to get her.
Tinny - Thunder Mage/Mage Fighter - Daughter of Tiltyu and sister of Arhtur. I
heard she actually gets to use the all powerful Tordo magic. She comes as an
enemy, and I bet who know who has to talk to her to get her. Appears on chapter
8.
Faval - Bow Fighter/Sniper - He comes on chapter 8 and is the son of Bridget. He
will have all of her stuff (Though I never got Bridget her Icheval bow, I
believe he gets it from the start if his mother had it when she died)
Sety - Sage - POWERFUL! Fury's son. Even if Fury and Levin didn't get together,
or if you didn't put Fury with anyone (In which case youd get Hawk, not Sety)
his Light magic is powerful. However, if you got Levin's Holsety magic with
him...
Coupl - Priest/HiPriest - Adopted son of Hannibal, he was the son of Sylvia.
Starts on level 1 though... he will join only if you can get Celis to the far
left castle before killing Hannibal.
Hannibal - General - Have Coupl talk to him (There is a stradegy to get him,
which I will explain later)
Althena - Dragon Knight/Dragon Rider - She inherits Gei-Borg, Cyuan's mighty
Earth Spear.

2C. Geneology

I've only listed the good guys. I may at some time later list who gets the
genes, but not the weapons at a later time, but for now...

Siguard - Celis - Baldo
Cyuan - Althena - Gei-Borg
Levin - His Son* - Holsety
Claude - His Son* - Blagu
Bridget - Faval - Icheval's bow
Tinny - Tordo
Shanon - Odo
Ares - Hezul

I dont think I forgot any, but I could have.

* = It's only passed on if you pair them with one of the 6 women.

3. Love

What is Love, you ask? Well... I'll explain in this section.

3A. Love Explained

When two of your character's from the first half fall in love, the following
happens:
They are able to give each other gold.
When standing next to each other in battle, they are given the chance for the
'Love Effect' (which is just about the same as the sibling effect) which will
make a character's LAST hit in that battle ultra-powerful.
The mother will have children, so instead of getting really crappy units on the
second half, you get units that inherited their parent's weapons, items and
stats.

When two of your character's from the second half fall in love, the following
happens:
The love effect and the ability to give gold.
The ending will be changed slightly (or so I hear)

It's recomended that you have all of your character's fall in love, esspecially
those who are inheritors.

3B. How to make characters fall in love

Quite simple, just have them talk (which I shall explain later) and have them
execute actions, like fighting, next to each other. This makes Edin, Lachesis
and (esspecially) Sylvia the easiest to have fall in love in the first half.
Make sure you have the one who you wish to be their lover stand by them as they
heal or dance...

3C. Pairing advice

There are many methods to pairing, and what I've done so far is just use class
to pair my characters. Other things you want to look at are skills,
items/weapons, inheritance, and even stats. Finn and Deu are possibly the
hardest to pair, they both are just little kids at the time, and Finn is so cold
hearted (so I hear)...

3D. My pairings and why

Siguard and Diadora - Automatic pairing.
Cyuan and Etherin - Another automatic pairing. Cyuan's equipment is passed on to
Althena, and Etherin's is passed onto Leif.
Ayra and Hollin - In chapter 3, you have the chance to get a Hero Sword (Very
nice, usually it will do 4 hits in one round unless fighting against a spear)
for Ayra from either Rex or Hollin, I choose Hollin because of the fact both
Ayra's children are Sword Fighters.
Lachesis and Beowulf - Beowulf has the attack again skill, which will allow him
to make one fight two rounds (even the enemy gets to attack again) which is very
useful, esspecially when you HAVE to have someone dead. Not to mention his class
is the same as Delmood's.
Edin and Jamuka - I put these two together because I knew Edin's son was a Bow
Knight, and I wanted the father to have a bow as well. Mideel is 'supposed' to
be with Edin, but I didn't know Mideel was a guy until it was too late (I
thought he was a girl until he died on me)
Fury and Levin - Considering Tiltyu and Levin, which would get Holsety on
chapter 6 (which would be nice) i decided against it. Levin's spell should only
really go to another Sage.
Bridget and Noish - This is another odd couple, seeing as how Patty gets her
father's equipment, not Bridget's. I chose Noish only because of how powerful he
got for me (incredable stats). And this way Paty gets some nice sword equpiment.
Tiltyu and Azel - Azel was the only other mage, so I thought what the hell...
Sylvia and Claude - Sylvia equals dancer, Lynn equals dancer. Claude = hipriest,
Coupl = (hi)priest...

There are usually only a few worthy characters for each woman, but I think you
can pair any woman with any man.

4. Hints and Tips

This section is all about the little things I picked up on my way, little
stradegies on how to play the game.

4A. Talking

Talking is a must. I used to just line everyone up and try to have people talk
to each other (i.e. I'd move one character infront of everyone and if the 'talk'
command came up, I'd have them talk.) This was a very painstaking and wasteful
thing to do. If you go onto the character screen (hit X over one of your
character's) and then hit down, you will see the personal data. The first three
columns are Leader (or Leadership, which is a set of stars instead of a name)
Lover and who the person wants to talk to. Checking this will help you know who
wants to talk to who.

Some Enemies can be chatted with and convinced to join (Or bought). There is a
specific music that these character's have in battle^, and if you hear it, you
will know that you can get that character to join.

^if you got this from me directly (i.e. your not reading this on GameFaqs) you
should have gotten a music file that demonstrates this music.

4B. The Character List

Its put into 6 sections, though I only used the first and forth. It's very
useful to select the LV sorting tab from the first character list section, this
way you know which characters need the most working on... The 4th section is
also handy because the far right column is the 'Who this character wants to talk
to' column. Much easier than checking everyone's personal sheet by hand.

4C. Useful Stradegies

Getting Ayra - Bring two (or three, if you think its nessisary) characters down
by the castle that Ayra guards right outside of her range (hit the A button when
the selecter is over her to see how far she can walk, make sure you leave all of
your character's outside of her orange range). Have the other two character's
kill one of the guards around the castle, then have Siguard come in and capture
it. The next round Ayra will say something and probably attack one of your
characters, be careful, she can be deadly... The next round, simply have Siguard
talk to her, and she will join.

Getting Coupl and Hannibal - This one isnt as tough as youd think. Simply have
Patty (or whoever you gave her sleeping sword to) put Hannibal to sleep as soon
as you can. Then, kill all of his army off before he wakes up. Then bring
someone down to stand infront of his castle (DONT conquer it or you will kill
Hannibal) and then have Celis work his way down to the next castle. Once its
captured, you will get Coupl (or his replacment). Hannibal should be standing
right next to whoever you put infront of his castle, skipping his turn. Simply
bring Coupl up to talk to him and he will join!

Conquering Castles and Talking - Everytime you conquer a new castle, check the
4/6 character list and see if anyone wants to talk to anyone else. It's also a
good idea to check everytime someone new joins your team.

This FAQ was done by The Lost One, and there are a numerous number of sites that
I found this information on. I wish I could list them all, but I cannot. I would
just like to thank anyone who did help me with this game.
