This FAQ is a transcribed game script of the quotes from the game EVO for the
SNES. Its purpose is to serve as a quick and easy reference to all of the
dialogue in the game using an easily searchable format.
This is NOT a FAQ to help answer gameplay questions. There are plenty of other
FAQs that do that really well. This FAQ will contain spoilers, obviously, so
be forewarned.
The main protagonist in this original platformer is of the silent variety,
so typically the speech in the game is of other creatures speaking to him.
During parts of the game where there are typos and grammar mistakes, I wrote
them down exactly for the most part. So although I may have made a few typos,
some of them are intentional.
I ask that people do not lift my guide or portions of my guide without asking
my permission or without giving me credit.
Now, without further ado, I present the story of EVO - The Search for Eden.

About 4.6 billion years ago, the "Sun" had nine smaller stars and named the
third one "Gaia."
The Sun: "My dear, Gaia! Please listen to me. From this time forward, every
1 billion years, you will have children called "Life". One of them will be
able to help you to build a new era. Each child must endure a difficult trial.
You might think it's too sever, but it is necessary. The trial is a test of
Nature: 'The survival of the fittest'. If he passes, I will allow him to be
your partner and to enter Eden.
*If you're defeated:
Gaia: Sorry! You've been defeated. I will revive you. Please keep this a
secret from my father, the Sun. Your EVO.P has been reduced slightly.

& 3.0 Chapter 1: The World before Land (500-450 Million B.C.) &

Gaia: Hi! My name is Gaia. I am the one who watches over all life, including
you. You will journey through many periods of time on this planet. A journey
of change. The journey will not be easy. Only the strong will survive. This is
a trial given by my father. I hope you can survive this trial and meet me in
Eden. This will be the end of your journey. Well the time has come. You may
go now. You are already a fish. It took 3 billion years for your body to
evolve. You must travel alone. Please be careful. Good luck!
Jellyfish: "What! We have another newcomer?" Welcome to the world, where the
rule is only the fittest shall survive. Look newcomer! You better listen to
the rules of this world. There are the three. One- "Fight for survival and
for food." Two- "Only move forward never back." The last is, "Evolve and
become strong." Well, this is a very dangerous world isn't it? Are you afraid
of it? The weak and flabby will be easy to defeat. What about you, newcomer?
Rumors circulate among the cucumbers. "The Angler's horn attracts enemies
because of it's great light!" "They say we can't return here if we cross the
third volcano in the sea. It is Gaia's plan to lead the fish to a new world."
"Hmm... A new world."
Something in your body speaks?!
Yellow crystal: How are you progressing? Don't worry I will help you evolve.
You may call me crystal. I will give you advice on how to evolve. Evolving
your jaws will increase your biting strength. Evolving your body will increase
your defensive power. Evolving your horns will increase your attack power.
Evolving your hands, feet and dorsal fin as well as your tail, will increase
your Hit Point level, agility and strength. Be careful, evolving one part of
your body may decrease another part.
"Hi there fish!" "Try eating a red crystal. You may evolve into a strange
creature."
Crystal Power causes mysterious Evolution. Mysterious Time Stream evolves you.
Crystal Power doesn't work yet. Return to former body. Mysterious Time Stream
evolves you.
There is a wall of bubbles.
The wall of bubbles has disappeared because of the explosion from the volcano.
The Seaweed whisper to one another.
Seaweed A: "Friends, the strolites are trying to create a new world using
oxygen. They are having trouble because the Kuraselaches keep interfering with
them."
The Strolites whisper to one another.
Strolite A: "If we could move along the bottom of the sea without sticking,
we would not have to be ruled by the Kuraselache."
Strolite B: "Shhh! Speak quietly or the leader in the cave will hear you!"
Huh? Who are you? Knowing this is the domain of the Kuraselache, King of the
Sea, why are you here? Are you not trying to help the Strolites build a new
world? The Sea is the only world! I will defeat anyone who helps the Strolites!
We are the Strolites. Outside the sea a world filled with oxygen is being
born. The entrance is here.
Okay, let's go. A "New World" awaits you.
Change of circumstance causes evolution.
Gaia: I am Gaia. The "Fish Age" lasted about 2 billion years. As it ended it
gave way to the beginning of a new world. One filled with oxygen. It is called
the "Land Age". The Strolites and plants have already begun living here to
prepare a better place for those who choose to follow. Here is a present for
survivng the Fish Age. It is the body of an Amphibian. You have lungs so that
you may breathe and you may also move about the ground freely. A new adventure
awaits your new body. So----. Great Power-. Please give this creature a new
body. Let us go to the Era when the creatures reached land. We shall use the
Time-Trans.

& 4.0 Chapter 2: Early Creatures of Land (300-230 Million B.C.) &

Gaia: The next stage is the age of Amphibians. Amphibians, Ikustega and
Insects which were the first to arrive have already lived on land. There
should be a lot of large plants growing there, but something is wrong.
Yellow crystal: "EVO tip." Welcome to the world of Amphibians! If you evolve
your tail, you will increase your jumping ability and your HP.
You hear someone whispering in the air above you.
Whisper A: "Captain! The Green Crystal has the power to change your body back
to the way it was before, doesn't it?"
Whisper B: "Ye-----s!"
Whisper A: "But Captain, isn't it wrong to operate the process in reverse?
This crystal must be bad for the Evolution process."
Whisper B: "Absolutely not!"
Whisper A: "I will not responsibility for anything that happens."
Whisper B: "-----It is still good for the future of this planet------"
Coelafish: "Um.... We are Coelafish. It is very difficult for us to evolve or
fight against other creatures. So, we stay as we are."
Get out stranger! This land is owned by the elder who takes care of plants.
Debustega: I congratulate you on passing through the protected land. But
this is the final area. I am the strongest of the Ikustega family. I am....
Debustega. Bu.. Bu.. Did you laugh at me? Do you think my body looks funny?
I know you are laughing at me. You make me very angry! I am going to defeat
you!
Elder of Ikustega: "You are great!"
Child of Ikustega: "You are strong!"
Elder of Ikustega: "Considering your great strength, I have something to ask
you. Could you do me a favor?"

plants. Suddenly, insects started to evolve extremely abnormally. These
insects ate all of the plant life leaving this place like a desert. They are
trying to eat any remaining plants around the area. They refused our proposal
to coexist. Now they are attacking our people. The father of this child went
to try and persuade them, but he has never returned."
Child of Ikustega: "---- Dad ----."
Elder of Ikustega: "Could you please help us?"
Child of Ikustega: "Save the plants!"
If you kill either Elder or Child Ikustega:
Gaia: "Ah.....h!" "What are you doing?"
Profasu (Ancestor of Cockroach): "Those pesky Amphibians are coming again!"
"Pant, pant..." I was supposed to try and persuade the King-Bee, but I have
been badly injured. Is there anyone who can tell the King-Bee how important
living in peace is? Sir ---, you look very strong. I have a favor to ask of
you. I am about to pass away soon. Please eat the food I have collected so
that you may become strong enough to defeat the King-Bee. If you can defeat
the King-Bee, it will enable the plants to recover and grow again. But....
I wish I would have met my son before I pass away. Sighhh... ....Farewell, my
son.
King-Bee: "Here comes another Amphibian." "You have evolved strangely. Did you
use the crystal's power?" "As I said before, the only way to satisfy our large
appetite is to devour all of the plant life we can find." "If you feel the way
we have chosen to live is wrong, maybe you should change it. You may only
change it one way though. By force!"
Ha...ha...ha... I am a dragonfly. You may call me Megausu. You got it! I didn't
agree with the way of the King-Bee either. I will give you some advice. You
have no strong enemies ahead. At this point you don't need to evolve. The
Sand-Eater in the next area is very strong. I suggest you run away.
Elder of Ikustega: "Recently the insects have become quiet."
Child of Ikustega: "I wish dad would return soon."
Edasaurus: "You can't get through here if your body is still the same." "It is
the Era of Reptiles. The Era of Plants and Insects has ended."
Megausu: You are a failure. You should have listened to our orders. Hail
Queen-Bee!
Queen-Bee: It was you, Amphibian, who defeated my husband the King-Bee. You
have destroyed the laws of our Insect society. I feel it was unfair that only
our society be destroyed! The Amphibians must be destroyed too. I shall destroy
you first for defeating my husband.
"Balance of Nature" which the giant insects destroyed will recover. The plants
that were totally destroyed will grow back again. The ground will become an
ideal place for all creatures again. Okay, here is your new body. It is the
body of a reptile. You can evolve into many different things with this body.
Great Power! Give this creature a new body!

& 5.0 Chapter 3: Age of Dinosaurs (200-65 Million B.C.) &

Gaia: By the way...
King Bee: "Did you say you were larger because of the Crystal? I never made a
Crystal that would make bodies larger."
Gaia: Something strange... The next time period is a place where all creatures
compete for power. These creatures are called "Dinosaurs", because of their
strength.
Yellow crystal: "EVO trip" You can evolve in various ways in this Era. If you
choose two legs, you will be able to jump higher. If you choose to have four
legs, you will have stronger defense. If you choose four legs, your ability to
jump will be limited so be careful when choosing.
You hear whispering coming from somewhere.
Whisper A: "How many reptiles have challenged Mt. Brave?"
Whisper B: "Only a reptile with true bravery may be eligible to build a new
age."
Whisper A: "I believe Mt. Brave is a good target to overcome. This will help us
choose the Chosen One."
Whisper B: "I feel an ominous hunch..."
Ribit...ribit, ribit! We are the slimy amphibians. What's wrong with slime?
Huh. Ribit, ribit.
We are the ones who watch over the plants. Recently reptiles have eaten so many
plants, we have become worried.
Hey! You! Don't get involved with the crystal. It causes creatures to evolve in
strange ways. We don't depend on it. We evolve in the right way, with steady
effort. Look at my excellent head butt.
My child is missing so I am very angry! Please go away or I will become angry
with you as well!
Prime frog A: "You do not like slime?"
Prime frog B: "What an insolent Syrocosaurus child!"
Syrocosaurus child: "Stop it! I don't like it!"
Prime frog A: "Ahh! Reptiles are coming. Run!"
Syrocosaurus child: "Help me!"
Mother of Prime frog: Ribit, ribit... "Is it you who scared my children? Well,
you must not know... We are the Prime frog family. Even reptiles fear us. I
will teach you a lesson. Attack, my children! Attack!"
Syrocosaurus child: "The Reptile helped me when I was in trouble." "I forgot to
thank him for his help."
Syrocosaurus father: "Well if you meet the reptile, tell him about the legend."
One day a dinosaur climbed to the top of Mt. Brave. At the top he was given a
chance to become a new creature. If he took the chance he would give up most of
his capabilties. He decided, after much hesitation, to make the change. He was
admired by all for the courage he had shown by changing into a new body. This
body had capabilities which no other creature had. He changed his name to
"Ptenodon" and left for a new world. (Would you like to hear it again?)

"Hey there reptile!" Here is the entrance to the sky world. Try to jump into
it without hesitating. But if something goes wrong in there remember it was
your choice!
Celebration for your bravery! You evolve "Birds".
Pronesaurus: "Hah! What a stupid creature. It has been a long time since we
have seen a daredevil. Let us howl to inform the other Pronesaurus that a
stupid creature is approaching." Ooofff....
Omasaurus: "Oh! What a creature to come here!" "Tyrasaurus will be upset unless
we defeat it. Let's go."
Ha ha ha... I guess I will have to believe you are actually here. We are the
Tyrasaurus. In this world we are the strongest creature to receiver power from
the crystal. Defeating you will be as easy as lifting a baby. But, you seem to
have promise. Well, will you join us in ruling the world?

>>No!

Don't you want to reconsider?
>>W-wait...
>>I've made my decision.
If yes again:
Well, well! Hahaha...
You have decided to become a follower of the Tyrasaurus. We shall take a look
at your future. No one will go against you anymore. You can continue to eat
them all. Thousands of years have passed... and then...
What is that? Something is falling. Please help! This is the way the Dinosaurs,
once prosperous, were annihalated.
Now we can only see them as fossils. Of course you would be a fossil and
exhibited in a museum.

What you turn against Tyrasaurus?! You are unwise! Ha ha ha... so now you must
pay your debt!
Watch out! The river of asteroids is breaking apart! It is about to fall to the
ground! A great number of rocks are dropping! Hurry up! Hurry, get out of here!
You barely escaped! However, at that time the world of Dinosaurs was.....
Gaia: What has happened? The dust caused from the asteroids created a very
dense cloud blocking out all of the sun light. The temperature in the land was
dropping. Many of the Dinosaurs could not bear the cold weather and passed
away. This is a sad incident referred the "Extinction of the Dinosaurs". It
will be talked about for generations to come.

The dinosaurs beneath us don't think about anything. They don't understand
creatures with intelligence will rule the land, not creatures with strength.

An asteroid field is approaching. If it hits, the world beneath would be
severly damaged! It will be alright.

& 6.0 Chapter 4: Ice Age (65-36 Million B.C.) &

Gaia: From now on, a new life form called "Mammal" will be born. You have a
chance to become one.
Yellow crystal: "EVO tip" Evolution is slowing down in this age. Reptiles
change very little and they will have few enemies. You must be careful!
Evolution is slow among the Mammals. You will struggle against strong enemies.
Someday you may evolve into a creature known as a "Human Being."
We are very happy living without fear of our enemies, although we have weak
bodies. Syrocosaurus family over there has something to tell you.
I was told by Gaia to give you the power to become a Mammal. I was also ordered
to check if you deserve to become a Mammal. In order to make you a Mammal, we
have to use some of our "Spirit Power" called "Hope" from our people who have
been defeated. I must judge you. Congratulations! You deserve to become a
Mammal. You will not be able to return to the form you are in now if you decide
to become a Mammal. How will you choose?

West Continent." "They are defeating the Mammals trying to evolve." "I am so
scared!"
Oh! I have been discovered! We survive with much difficulty, leave us alone!
There is a door of ice. It is too heavy to move.
Tyrasaurus: "Oh! The Yeti are coming!" What! Oh, my mistake. I feel better now.
Balrium: "Even though we escaped the Yeti, it is too hot for us Mammals to
survive here in the desert."
Mammoth: "We are the three brothers of the Mammoth. Even the Yeti is afraid of
us. What are you? Whaaaat? Well, you are a part of the Yeti family aren't you?
Yeah, you should be! Hey, brothers! The enemy is here!" Pahooom....
Mammoth Gal: "Oh my! I thought the Yeti had attacked us but it wasn't true. The
Mammoth brothers had been proud because the Yeti had not come yet. The Mammoth
brothers said it would be very easy to defeat the Yeti if only they had the
crystal. By the way, you are very strong. I will tell you a secret. There is a
mountain in the Southwest and you can find the Ice Pole spirit there. It was
said if you close the Ice Pole, you couldn't come back to this world. Please be
careful."
Ha...ha...ha... Here comes the slave.

Bird-King: Come on you vulgar creature! I am Bird-King, boss of the Bird-man.
I am the leader of a great tribe that has continued to evolve, though we lost
many people by the falling asteroids. Listen to me! This is an age of
intelligence. Creatures beneath us still stick to changing their bodies for
strength, but they will remain stupid. We had a sage who came from the
Universe. Using the crystal he gave us, we will rule the world the way the
dinosaurs couldn't! Finally we will start a journey to the Universe! Would you

universe with the father of the Bird-man. You reached the nearest planet, the
Moon, and you will create the Bird-man civilization. But you will return here
sometimes.

and drew figures of you in the desert. Such drawings remain throughout for
thousands of years.

Ah you are a traitor! The crystal will teach you a lesson.
Bird-People: "Good gracious! The castle is coming apart because the power of
the crystal is gone. Everybody better leave!"
Yeti: Destroy the creatures. Destroy them! That's my destiny. Hahaha... "Ah,
who are you? How did you get in? I've got it. The big explosion from the sky
broke the ice entrance. That was a big one! I am Sir Yeti. I rule the Ice World
using the power of the crystal. I become angry with weak Mammals who try to
become strong. You seem to be different. Have you evolved yet?
>>Is something wrong.

Well, you have a big mouth! Join the rest!

You are a liar! You must pay!" Ha ha ha...
Yeti: "I can't believe it! Why me? What has happened to the power of the
crystal? Junior....!"
Yeti Junior: "What! Daddy...!"
Yeti: "I couldn't believe there existed such a strong creature in this world.
This was my mistake."
Yeti Junior: "Daddy, be strong!"
Yeti Mother: "My dear! Where are you? I am afraid... I can't forgive you for

Gaia: I am Gaia. It has been painful but you must see the real world. Even if
you had not defeated the Yeti, I believe they would be beaten by a stronger
power. Let us move forward. This is the only way you can go.

Gaia: I am Gaia. The Ice Age has come to an end, A new age full of life, has
begun. I believe Mammals will be prosperous from now on. Although the Dinosaurs
are extinct, the rule: "the survival of the fittest" remains. By the way... I
think you already noticed that someone delivered an evil tool, a Crystal, to
this planet. I wonder why and who? Anyway there is something wrong with
evolution of life on this planet. The Crystal... I have a bad feeling. Come,
you are close to Eden now.
There are creatures who can hold things in their front legs called "Tools". Be
careful with them because they can cause much damage.
Hidden Segosaurus: Wah! "Here comes another enemy!" "Don't attack us please! We
like to live in peace." "Please leave us alone!"

"Really? Thank you!" "I will tell you a secret for your kindness." In the cave
at the Southern continent, there are strange creatures no one has ever seen
before. They evolved with the face of a cat and the body of a rabbit.

Hey! I saw it! I saw a silver shining object like a bird flying. I've never
seen such a bird!
We are the Amphibians who monitor the plant life. We are pleased to see the
plant life increasing. We will continue to monitor the plant life as long as

used in the experiment!"
Whisper B: "I am afraid some of the creatures learned of the power of the
crystals."
Whisper A: "What!? Only beings from our tribe can understand the secret of the
crystals. I wonder... Are there other creatures like us."
If you bite the flying saucer:
Wah! Forgive us we were wrong! We regret our action, and we will never
interfere again. Forgive us!

We live peacefully nowadays, but we made many mistakes and almost destroyed our
planet."
Whisper B: "I was afraid you would evolve in the same way and make the same
mistakes we did. That is the reason we delivered the Crystal. However, I was
meddling and I apologize."
Whisper A: "We should be able to see our planet soon."
Then you will be welcome to their planet, Mars. After staying for awhile, you
may come back to Earth safely.

Are you surprised? This is a special elevator. If you choose the direction, it
will take you there automatically. This is a very convenient device. The
creature living in the East taught me how to make this.
Yeti: "Who did it? I wonder who came into our sanctuary without permission. No
one can damage the Yeti burial ground. Oh, I can hear, the sad voices of our
ancestor." "Daddy!" "Mommy!" "Finally the time has come. We should revenge our
Yeti humiliation. I will not waste my time. Our humiliation will end!"
Gaia: I am Gaia. Please do me a favor. The crystal turned the Rogons into
violent creatures. They have been attacking the whales. Please defeat the
Rogons and save the whales.
We are Rogons. We have evolved from fish. We heard some creatures from land
took over our domain, so we are going to attack them. By the way, you look
like...
You are the one who helped the whales. We are protected by the power of the
crystal. We Rogons can only rule the sea. We can not allow whales to stay. Once
they evolved themselves to become creatures of land, now they have returned to
the sea to oppose our rule. The sea is our new territory. Well, I have a point
do I not?

That's right. I am very pleased with your progress.
We shall look into your future. The Whales and Rogons were invincible in the
sea. There was no one to go against them.
Rogon: "Eat! Eat! Eat them all! We have the strongest power. The strongest one
will control this planet."
Rogons conquered all the sea. Even the strongest sharks and whales with great
intelligence obeyed him. Thousands of years have passed...
Rogon: "What is that! I can't believe such a large fish is here." Something is
falling.
Fisherman: "What is this fish? It has a very strange shape."
Captain: "I don't care. We will grind it down to fish cake."

After you lose a leader, you will get lonely and start to wander.

continue ruling the sea by using the power of the crystal. I am very relieved.
I wonder if you are the chosen one. Can you save this world created by the
crystal? We will blow the cloud over the mountain in Eden away using our will
power. Go back to the land. I will give you a new body so that you can fight on
land again."
Please listen to my story. A long time ago, our ancestors built a castle that
reached far into the sky. They had tried to reach the universe but were
removed by some strange force. That is why we don't have wings.
Bee Queen: How great the one living in the North is. He made us big again and
we are very grateful. We can't let you pass here because we are showing our
respect for him.
Tyrasaurus: We were nearly to the point of extinction, but the one living in
the North saved us. He made us into a very important ancestor.
It is cold, very cold. Who are you? I've never seen you before. I am Cro-Maine.
I am the guardian of this cave which leads to Eden. Once I belonged to the
Monkey-Human tribe but they didn't like me because I had less hair and was
smarter than the rest. When I was alone, one being in the cave treated me very
well. He ordered me not to let anyone pass here so I can't let you in.
Why did you come in? We are the Dino-People. We escaped extinction and evolved.
We are the only ones who use the crystal. It is too dangerous to keep this
crystal. We must seal off the crystal immediately. Until then no one may enter
Eden. Go home. If you don't go home you will regreat staying here!
Dino-People: "Good gracious! The pot containing the crystal has exploded!"
Bolbox: You are the one trying to obtain entrance into Eden with help from
Gaia. I am Bolbox, the strongest creature in this world. I have evolved into
a caveman by eating the crystals the Dino-People have collected. I will go to
Eden. I am the most suitable partner for Gaia, together we will rule the
future. I've got some bad news for you. You will not make it to Eden. This is
the end of your journey.

Gaia: I am Gaia. Thank you for defeating Bolbox. We would not have had any
future in the land of Eden if they would have come here. Let us go to Eden.
Finally we are close to the end of Evolution.
Gaia: I am Gaia. Finally you have reached Eden. You have passed a severe test
of nature. You have completed the trial: "Survival of the fittest". Our future
is before us. We can control our destiny. Let's continue our journey.
Whisper A: "After all our attempts we were not successful."
Whisper B: "That is correct. It was our pride and I am very sorry we intervened
in the evolution of this planet."
Whisper A: "I think it is okay now. They can become even better creatures now
than we ever expected!"
Whisper B: "You are right. We should advise them only if they have a real
problem. We should watch over them with a kindness."
Whisper A: "It shall be done. We will do this until our culture has developed
on Mars."
The Sun: "You have been chosen by Gaia and have completed the trial. From now
on please be a good partner to Gaia and create a wonderful planet. I would like
to give you something called "Intelligence". You can create a "Civilization",
and help the world prosper by using your "Intelligence". Please be careful and
use it wisely. If you use it improperly you will have a much harder trial than
the one you just experienced. If you choose wisely, you will create a wonderful
world. We will give you the land of Eden and accept you into our family, the
Sun family. Go to Eden with Gaia."
Listen everybody! We will begin a new age.
