|1. Introduction|
"""""""""""""""""
(This introduction is more about the faq and how I decided to do it, than
the game. For more introduction about the game(Dragon: Bruce Lee) check the
"Dragon?" section and "Getting started" section.)

Well, I saw the Bruce Lee movie "The big boss"(fists of fury) for a week
ago, and also "Game of Death" and hooked up my Bruce Lee game Dragon: The
Bruce Lee Story for the Genesis and decided to do a faq for it. Bruce was a
very good fighter(no tellin'!) and this game is about his life. I kinda
like his movies, he fights nice and is pretty cool. And I haven't seen many
faqs for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story out there, so I did this faq. Of
course it's a fighting game where you're Bruce. The game itself isn't that
pretty bad, but sure, there're better fighting games out there(i.e. tekken
tag tournament). But it's not that bad. In fact I like it more than the
classic fighting game "Street Fighter 2"(maybe because I played that game
to death). There is a trace of "artificial intelligence" in this game(if
you fight an opponent with the same moves all the time it won't work
because the enemy figures it out and does something else. Common in new
games like Tekken Tag Tournament, rare in old fighting games. You know,
there's always a tactic that can be used, but that doesn't totally work in
Dragon: The Bruce Lee story. Well done, Virgin!)

For everyone disturbed by my spelling/grammatical errors all I can say I'm
sorry. I know it's horrible. Please forgive me. I could have written the
faq in my own language, but then the whole world couldn't read it besides
my own country and I thought it would be better if as many people as
possible could get help instead of just a small part. Oh well. I'm working
on it, everyday I should get better on english, since I'm still going to
school...

You got a question(s)? Comments? You're a fan of Bruce Lee? Then go ahead
and mail me! I'll answer all mails I get, at least the ones within reason.

[email protected]  is the adress.

Maybe I'll make an updated version later, it depends if I think of
something new needs to be added or if I recognize I missed something, or if
I see that people actually play it. But don't expect it to be so soon, I
don't update my faqs so frequently(maybe I should). Well, until then, hang
on!

Now, "let's fight!!"

..........................................................................
|?: Dragon?                                                               |
..........................................................................
Everyone has heard about the fighter Bruce Lee. His stories have been more
a legend now than reality and 20 years after his death(yes, he passed away
in 1973, more than 27 years ago!) Virgin released a fighting game based on
the movie "Dragon: the Bruce Lee story" where the story's about Bruce's
life, with Bruce's son Brandon Lee as the star. Maybe the storyline is a
bit too strange(if you've seen the movie, you know what it's all about) but
the game itself is pretty good.

Of course Bruce is the hero in his own game, against a lot of baddies, some
you've seen from the movie, but a few others that you've never seen before,
that was not in the film. The game was made in 1993. Since the game is
based on the movie I might talk some about the movie also, not only the
game to explain a few things. If you feel for it, I suggest you watch the
film(Dragon: The Bruce Lee story) because then you'll recognize a lot of
places when you play the game and most things get more fun. Also, the movie
is worth seeing.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
|ABOUT BRUCE'S FIGHTING MODES|
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Bruce can fight in three different modes; "fighter", "normal" and
"nunchaku"-mode. Normal mode is just the one you start with, the original
state. Nothing special. But along the way, Bruce can obtain special power,
"shi". He gets this energy when he has beaten an enemy badly without being
hurt himself or if he takes a "shi mark"(only to be found in battle mode).
Anyway, if you have enough energy("shi"), you can use the other modes.
You'll see which mode you can use up on the lower blue energy. If you have
more than half, you can be "fighter". If the "shi" energy is almost full,
you can use "nunchaku". The text will be shown when you can use the
technique. But aware, if you use the technique too much, the energy will go
down and soon you can't use it, then you need to refill your "shi-energy".

To enter one of the modes, you need to press a special combination. To do
this, you need to have a control-pad with more buttons than the original
one, you need that one with grey buttons above the red ones. You know what
I'm talking about.(X, Z, and Y-button).

(If all of this "modes" and "shi" sounds weird, just play the game and
you'll see what I'm talking about after a couple of minutes).

(For more about these modes moves etc, check the control section).

,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Normal mode:
,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You don't have to do anything to be in normal mode, you have it from the
beginning(on the contrary to nunchaku and fighter). When you start a
fight(the first one, when you haven't gained any shi) your shi-energy meter
is empty and Bruce will be in normal mode. He moves in avarage speed, he
can strike all regular hits, etc. This mode is definitely the easiest one
to control. If I'm going to choose one of the modes(between nunchaku,
fighter and normal)I'd choose normal. In this mode you can do all strong
attacks like "groundbreaker", you can avoid attacks, block opponent's
attacks, etc. You cannot do the groundbreaker as a "fighter", and you
cannot block as a "nunchaku". This mode is the best one, that's what I
think. You also take damage better(in the others you get easily knocked).
But the two others can also be good in some situations(especially the
"nunchaku", I don't really appriciate the "fighter" mode, it's a bit
harass).

But you can test all modes, it's fun!

<><><><><><><>
Fighter mode:
<><><><><><><>
To become a "fighter", you need at least half of the shi-energy and then
press "mode-button"+ y-button. If you suceed, Bruce changes his way of
fighting and you're in "fighter" mode. You'll recognize that he's much
faster(almost double as quick as before) and he gets some special
kicks/punches abilities. But playing as a fighter may not be as good as it
looks. Bruce will be very difficult to control as he runs around. You get
some new moves/strikes, but you also lose some old ones as playing as a
fighter. For example, you cannot use the "groundbreaker" and the "slap
attack"(the two best attacks in the game) as a "fighter", then you have to
change back to "normal" mode first.

()()()()()()()()
Nunchaku-mode:
()()()()()()()()
To enter "nunchaku"-mode, you need almost all of the shi-energy. Then press
"mode button"+ z-button. Bruce will then use nunchakus. The nunchakus are
the strongest attacks in the game. If you get the chance and can time it,
the opponents will be very very hurt. But when you play with nunchakus, you
can't kick or punch, not even block which makes you much more vulnerable.
Test it and see for yourself! I usually don't use the nunchakus, but I can
tell you that they are needed against the last boss(the phantom).

The best way to use the nunchakus is trying to make a combination among the
buttons. If you can combine the three different swings of them, it will go
quicker and whip around all the time instead of just one swing and then
waiting. This is quite difficult though so test it on a professional level.
And also it takes a lot of shi-energy. But check it out later!

For any moves of these modes, check the control section. Good luck!

===========================================================================
The best way to learn this game is to go to option mode and try "piece of
cake" level and then take 1p game because "Dragon" is pretty hard in the
beginning(for newcomers), before you've learned the controls. Then start
playing and explore all moves, hits, strikes, kicks, punches, etc.

After a while you'll learn some special tricks and good moves which will
make it much easier. You don't want to explore the moves yourself? Then
check out the control section, you got some good tips there.

>< >< >< >< >< >< ><
1player story mode:
>< >< >< >< >< >< ><
You play on your own against quite many baddies in the game. This is where
you can see the movie/scenario cinema sequences, it's most of the game
here. You play through the game.

...................
2player story mode:
...................
You play two players, in battle. First you battle the computer and then one
of you have to win against the other to go on.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
1 player battle:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You face the opponent alone, you versus the computer. The diffcultness
varys depending on which difficult mode you chose, and if you decided to
give one of the players handicap.

<><><><><><><><><>
2 player battle:
<><><><><><><><><>
You versus another player. Fight and you'll see who's the man!

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2 players versus computer:
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
You're two players against the computer. When you finished him, you have to
fight against each other, because one of you can only be the winner!

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
3 player battle:
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
You fight three friends against each other. This can be really fun if you
have a multiplayer(and three controls, of course), otherwise you can't play
it. Just imagine, three Bruce Lee's kicking at each other! Cool huh! (And
let's not talk about how it could be if two persons were against one!)

-------------
Option mode:
-------------
When you feel ready for some more action you can test another level, maybe
easy or normal. But you can't beat the whole game or face "the
phantom"(last boss) unless you play on tough or arcade mode.

For example, if you choose the "piece of cake", the game ends after you've
beaten Johnny Sun for the first time, in the George Wu gym(strange place
with old men in the background). If you choose "Easy", the game ends after
another battle, a little after that. If you choose "Normal", the game ends
after you've beaten Johnny Sun again, but this time within 60 seconds. And
if you choose "Arcade" or "tough" you can play through the whole
game(including facing the phantom).

You can also change the speed in the game. For example, you think the
fights are so slow and drag, then speed it up by going to the option menu
and select manic!. The battle and fighters will move much quicker. I
usually play on this, otherwise I think it goes too slow.

You can also shut off the movies/scenarios in the game if you want, it's
exactly as it should have been in the game, just without cinema-sequences.
So why would anyone want to play the game without the movies then? Well, it
goes much quicker to play through and if you've already seen the movie-
sections a thousand times and just want to play the game, this is an
alternative. (But of course, you can skip the movie sections by pressing
start as soon as they appear).

++++++++
Points:
++++++++
The points/score in this game has no function(at least not what I know),
it's just for fun to see how much you get. You get points when hitting an
opponent and when you finished a practice(score depends on how much you hit
the training stuff).

£££££££££££
Bonus game:
£££££££££££
In practice mode(the bonus level, the tree-stuff you know) you get 100
points for the highest pillar, 500 for the middle, and 1000 for the lowest.
So as you can figure, hitting the highest one isn't very good, try to
concentrate on the two lower ones if you want a high score.

Also, you get more "Shi" if you hit the same rolling platform, as it
becomes quicker. If it's slow, you won't gain so much. You get more "Shi"
depending how fast the platform is rolling. So take the chance of gaining
"shi" if you need to.

|||||||||||||||
Battle points:
|||||||||||||||
You get points each time you hit the opponent, the score varys depending on
which kind of hit it was. After the battle(if you won) you'll get some
extra points, like "Form" and "Shi". The "shi" score is the points you get
for how much "Shi" you had when you finished the battle. The "form" points
is how well you fought, if you varied your attacks, if you hit the opponent
many times, used a fair style(no kicking in the back, etc). Form is very
good to get because you gain a lot of score(much more than the "Shi"
brings).

You can also get a "Perfect Round". You get it if you beat the opponent
totally without you've been hit once by him. You cannot even block one of
his attacks, then you won't get a "Perfect Round". If you get this, you'll
be rewarded with 30000 points. But it's not so easy.

The high score list disappears when you turn off the Mega Drive 2, so the
scores are not there until next time you turn it on. (Too bad huh!) It's
only restored if you press the reset button, but when you turn the power
off, everything will be gone.

,,,,,,,
Lives:
,,,,,,,
About the lives is a little more strange. You always start with three lives
in scenario mode(story mode, in battle mode you fight in games, not lives).
When you lost your third life, you're dead. But you get another chance to
live again, if you beat the phantom(good luck :) If you beat him, you get
your three lives back again! Yay :)! (You're interested? Read more about it
at the enemy section, "the phantom after death").

As I said, you always have three lives and you get another chance to get
them back(when you fight the demon). But if you lose to the phantom, you're
dead and "game over" comes up. Oh man!

But there's another strange thing in this game too, about the lives. If you
have three/two or more lives than one and fight the phantom at the end of
the game(not when you're already dead), something crazy happens. If you
lose to the guy(I always do, kinda pisses me off) it's "game over", no
matter how many lives you have! Crazy, huh! I mean, against all other
enemies you get a second chance(or a third, depending how many lives you
have) right? But when you fight this one, you only get one. And if you
fail, you have to play through the game again... Well, that was about the
lives.

=()=()=()==()=()=()=()==()=()=()=
Items and stuff you should know:
=()=()=()==()=()=()=()==()=()=()=
"Shi" is the mystical art of Bruce Lee, his inner force. He gets it when he
gets the first hit in a battle(you hit the opponent before he hits you),
when you've beaten the enemy a lot without being hurt yourself, or if you
pick up "shi-marks"(only in battle mode), or he can gain some at the
practice.

The "shi-marks" are looking like the black and white chinese symbol(I think
it was Lao Zi, old chinese wise man thousands of years ago that was talking
about it), glowing and almost always up in the air. Jump up and take it as
quickly as you can before your opponent does. You can only take shi-marks
in battle mode.

The force will remain until you lost a battle, so if you beat the opponent,
you're energy is still at the same level as it was before. The shi might
also disappear, when you get hit many times by an opponent or all can be
disappeared if you loose totally(a life) against an opponent.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
|B: Controls                                                              |
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Well, in "Dragon: The Bruce Lee story" there are a few moves(about 36) to
learn and use, some are better than others. But an interesting thing is
that in this game ("Dragon") you can play in different modes, "fighter",
"normal" and "nunchaku"(hope I spelled that right). The differences are
explained in the "Dragon?" section. Check it out for more info. About the
different modes moves' are in this section. It comes directly after "normal
mode". I didn't list all moves here, just the regular and best moves, the
others are pretty useless and not really "moves", more a sort of
techniques. Oh well, I might list them in a next updating...

"NORMAL MODE"

+-+-+-+-+-+-+
Light punch:
+-+-+-+-+-+-+
The quicker but weaker punch is the grey button (Y). It is pretty useful,
especially when you're near the opponent. It's very fast and you can hit
the opponent many times without giving him the chance to strike back. A
personal favorite.

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
Strong punch:
\/\/\/\/\/\/\/
Similar to the light punch but stronger and slower. It's the grey
button(X). It is an ok punch but I prefer the light punch more. The strong
punch gives the opponent time to counterattack(but if succeeding, it
damages more).

"""""""""""""""
Groundbreaker:
"""""""""""""""
Slam dunk!! When an opponent is lying down on the floor, Bruce can jump up
and make a slam on his body, which is very painful. But remember, you can
only do it while the opponent is down. Go forward and jump up above him,
press in one direction to either left or right, then down. If you succeed,
the groundbreaker is a fact. This may seem hard to do the first time you
play the game but after a while it's pretty easy. This is a very handy(and
cowardly) attack which hurts a lot. Use it as often as you can.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
Roundhouse kick:
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
To do the roundhouse kick, press the black A-button twice and Bruce will
first kick and then do the round kick. The roundkick is strong and quite
good, but if the defending opponent blocks the risk that you get damaged is
pretty big because the move is slow. But if it succeeds, the opponent will
be quite hurt. Just watch out so he doesn't counterattack.

£££££££££££££££££££££££
Slap attack(cat-claw):
£££££££££££££££££££££££
Slap attack(I also call it the cat-claw attack, because it looks like a
cat-claw attack) is that one when you jump up and strike with the grey
button(X-or Y button). Bruce will jump and strike with his hand like a cat,
on the enemy. It's pretty strong and almost hits all the time, plus the
enemies will be knocked easily and then you can make a "groundbreaker" on
them(which is very painful). A real nice move, almost works at all enemies.
But watch out, most enemies learn that type of attack and then
counterattack it. So don't use it all the time, you got to vary your
techniques. But I want to say that this technique is the best in the whole
game, it works on almost every enemy and without it, the game would have
been a lot harder. You think I praise it too much? Well, play the game and
you'll see why.

||||||||||||||||
Hard low kick:
||||||||||||||||
Duck and press A-button. Bruce will kick with both his feet, in low
position. This is a very good move, most enemies will be damaged by this.
Surprising, no enemies seem to block this kick so it almost works all the
time. Also, it's a strong kick. Check it out!

================
Light low kick:
================
Duck and press B-button. This kick is really worthless. I never use it, and
if you try it you'll see why. It never hits(weird huh!) and if it does it's
not dangerous at all. Don't use it.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Jump-down kick:
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Jump up and press A-button/B-button and Bruce jumps with a kick towards the
opponent(not the groundbreaker). It may take a while to master this
technique. It's not a super-attack either, then I like the "slap attack"
better. So why is this attack not so handy then? Well, the opponents are
likely to block it easily and then counterattack since the attack is slow.
Watch out if you use this attack. Then it's better to use in "fighter"
mode 1

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Throw-technique:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In most fighting games, there is a way to throw opponents. Yes, you can do
that in "Dragon" too. Stand near the opponent, press Y-button(the grey
upper left button) meanwhile you press the moving button away from the
opponent. If you succeed, Bruce grabs the opponent and throws him away.
After this, you can follow up with a "groundbreaker" because the enemy will
lie down. (Ouch, that hurt!). Also, remember that you can counterthrow.
When an opponent is just about to throw you, you can counterthrow him
instead. Do exactly as before(press Y-button + in the other direction) and
Bruce comes out of the situation and grabs him instead. This may be a
little harder though, you have to be quick.

"FIGHER MODE"

@@@@@@@@@@@@
Speed kick:
@@@@@@@@@@@@
As you figured, you need to be in "fighter" mode to do this. Press the A-
button as quickly as you can. Keep pushing the button until it works. If
you succeed, Bruce lifts his foot and kicks very quickly in the air,
creating a cool attack. It's not so handy, but cool to look at. But if you
push your opponent into a corner and do this, it can be a good attack...

"""""""""""""
Speed fists:
"""""""""""""
You need to be in "fighter mode". Press the X-button as many times as you
can and Bruce punches very quickly. Also not a very handy attack but could
be used if the enemy in knocked.

----------------------
Quick jump-down kick:
----------------------
Gotta be in "fighter" mode. Do exactly as for the normal jump-down
kick(jump up and press A/B-button). Bruce will kick down against the enemy
real quick in a cool move. A quite handy attack, but not the best one. But
it's pretty difficult to use, since "fighter" mode is so hard to control.
But check it out. Just watch out so the enemy doesn't counterattack...

"NUNCHAKU-MODE"

;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Strong whip:
;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Just enter the nunchaku-mode(much shi-energy and mode button+z) and press
B-button. Bruce uses the nunchaku against the enemies. It's real strong but
be careful, if you miss the opponent he might strike back because the move
is really slow and it takes almost a second until you can use the nunchaku
again. And also, you cannot block in this mode. So be careful. The nunchaku
swings around your body, hitting everything around.

---------------
Weaker attack:
---------------
Enter nunchaku-mode and simply press A-button. Bruce makes an almost
ridiculous move with the nunchaku, but aware, it's dangerous. It maybe
don't seem to be something, but it's strong. If you keep hitting the
opponent like this, he'll pull down quickly. But don't use it too much,
then you get paralyzed after a while, and you cannot move. As always, vary
your attacks and that won't happen.

......................
"Shi"-energy draining:
......................
You can get "Shi"-energy by using the nunchakus. Swing it by pressing the
X-and Y-button between your hands and the Shi-energy will increase slowly.
You can of course use this as an attack, but the others are better. But use
this one to drain some energy.

@@@@@@@@@@@@
Neck-throw:
@@@@@@@@@@@@
Bruce can use his nunchaku to choke his opponent. Walk INTO the
opponent(walk forward until you touch him) and then press Y-button(the grey
one up to the left) and Bruce grabs the opponent's head and swing around. A
quite handy attack, but difficult to do since the opponent is likely to not
let you get that near... ( More interested in this move?!? Check the
phantom section, where I tell a little more about it).

I bet there are more techniques to master than those I've written here, but
these are the major and best attacks. I might update the document with more
later on.....

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
This section is dedicated to major tips throughout the game. Of course all
of them doesn't work always throughout the game, but they work fine
overall. Remember that they might work different on different opponents,
but they should help.

Some major tips throughout the game:

Special strikes/hits

There's a very handy punch in this game. It works perfectly against almost
every single enemy, except the phantom and the two cooks, because the
phantom slices you when you try to reach him and the two cooks duck away
from it. The punch I'm talking about is that one when you jump up and
strike with the grey button(X-or Y button). Bruce will jump and strike with
his hand like a cat, on the enemy.

Why is this so handy then?!? Well, it's pretty strong and almost hits all
the time, plus the enemies will be knocked easily and then you can make a
"groundbreaker" on them(which is very painful). Test this move a few times
and you'll see why it's so great. Check it out!

Another great hit is the rolling kick(the one where you make a leap). This
technique works great when fighting two opponents. You can do it by
pressing forward and B-button, meanwhile you flip. If you succeeded, Bruce
leaps over the screen, hits the opponent with his feet. It's handy because
it's hard to block, but the best part is that Bruce is hard to hit while he
does this. Works great, check it out.

Gaining Points

Try to vary your attacks; the "form" score will increase then. Try to fight
with honor. No "groundbreakers". Don't use strong attacks so much, the more
you hit the opponent, the more points you'll get.

Weopons/techniques

Well, as you know there are three techniques. In normal mode, Bruce can
take more damage before he is wiped off. And he can create deadly attacks.
Use this technique most. The "fighter" mode is quick but you're very
vulnerable. As you cannot block or defend yourself in any other way(except
jumping away from the opponent), this mode is a bit risky. It doesn't work
as good as normal mode. Don't use it too much. But one advantage with it is
that it's so quickly. If you choose to play at normal speed at the option,
then this technique can be handy. You know, the opponent will be slow, but
you're in fighter mode so you're quick. The nunchaku can be used anytime,
but don't use it against two opponents(it's hard to beat both with it, and
remember you cannot block in nunchaku mode, + you can't take so much
damage). Use the nunchaku against one enemy, and remember to vary the
attacks with it, otherwise you'll be cramped up and cannot use it anymore.
You can also swing the nunchakus between your hands with X+Y-button to get
your "shi"-energy up again.

Defense

Don't jump around so much, only if you want to use the "slap attack",
because otherwise the opponent might just smack you down. It's hard to
defend yourself when jumping. Just jump when you know it's good.

Bend down and block. It's safer than standing up because most hits can
break through a standing defence, like low kicks, low punches, etc.
But try not to block so much, use the flip instead. It's much safer when
you master it because it avoids most attacks great.

<<<<<<<<<<<<
The sea man
>>>>>>>>>>>>
In the movie, Bruce wants to dance with a girl at a party, but a sea man
grabs her instead. Bruce gets pissed and a fight starts. The background is
full of people dancing around.

In this game, the sea man is pretty strong but has a weak defense. His
major attacks are strong kicks, uppercuts, and after a while(when he knows
he'll be defeated) he turns into a coward and uses a weopon(chain).
Watch out for the chain, it hurts!

But if you just don't fool around too much, this guy won't be a problem.
Use strong techniques like the "slap attack"(jump, Y-X-button),
"Groundbreaker"(opponent lies down, jump over him and press forward+down),
and the "strong low kick"(bend down, press B-button). He'll be defeated
easily if you just concentrate and do your best. For all newcomers keep
trying if you lose, you'll win pretty soon, you just need to figure the
controls. Don't go too near him because then he uses his uppercuts(hurts)
and his weopon. Stay in distance, jump forward and hit him. Use the low
strong kick a lot.

If you have the fighter mode, you can use it. But I bet you don't have the
nunchaku mode(you haven't fought enough battles to increase it).

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_
|Main strategy:| Use the slap attack, stand far away from him, use the low
strong kick.

EASY

++++++++++++++
The two cooks
++++++++++++++
In the movie, Bruce and another girl(April) start talking(they look pretty
interested in each other, don't you think ?  ;) . Then a jealous cook comes
up and threats Bruce to death. A fight takes place, in the movie Bruce
fights 4 cooks, luckily you just fight two...

The two cooks could be pretty dangerous. There main attacks are butching
with their knives, kicking and actually headbanging. Watch out for the
knives, they hurt.

When you start the battle, you fight one cook, dressed in a blue suit and
an apron. He carries a sharp knife.

In the beginning, you can use the slap attack(jump, Y-X-button) a few times
but after a while the cook learns to avoid your tactic and counterattacks
it. Then you got to change strategy. A very good attack is to use the low
strong kicks when you're near him(it almost always works). If you get close
to him, a good combination is two quick light punches, then a strong one,
and then bend down and wipe him off with a strong low kick. When he is
knocked, get him down on the floor and use a groundbreaker.

After a while, the other cook appears, dressed in a green suit. Now you
have to fight two guys at the same time! But don't worry, you'll make it.
Try to concentrate on the blue one as he is short of energy, cause if you
can damage him enough, he'll pass out and be defeated. If you kill him, you
can concentrate on the other one after that, and you don't have to fight
two cooks, just one. So try to get him.

You can use the flip-attack which is very handy here(flip and press B-A-
button so Bruce flips himself away with his feet first). It's good because
it always hits something, you know what I mean? The two cooks get hit by
it, no doubt.

As always, try to not stand in the middle, because then the opponents just
kick you from one side to the other, and you'll never get out, losing a lot
of energy.

Don't use the fighter mode, and if you can use the nunchaku-mode(I doubt
that) you can use it.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
|Main strategy:| Kill one, head for the other, use low strong kicks, and
use the flip attack.

NORMAL

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Challenging black man
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
Meanwhile Bruce's working out on a gym,a guy comes up to him and commands
him to get off an equipment. A fight starts.(Well, I've been told to get
off equipments at my gym also, but that never started a fight.Oh well. ^_^)

This guy is a bit tougher than the others. He's much stronger, and above
all, he blocks your attacks successfully. You have to use different kind of
attacks.

As you can see, the slap attack works fine in the beginning, but then he
starts to block it. Then you got to do something else. How about getting
near him(use the flip) and then punch him quickly with a few light punches,
then a strong one, and a low strong kick(hard to block) and then finish him
off with a groundbreaker? This will do for a while, especially if you used
the slap attack in the beginning.

If you still get trouble, another tactic is to block his moves and then
counterattack.

Don't use the fighter mode(he'll just block all your attacks and knock you
down), but if you have the nunchaku, use it.

||||||||||||||
|Main tactic:| Use the slap-attack in the beginning, then head for quick
light punches and the groundbreaker. You might want to test blocking.

NORMAL

<><><><><><>
Johnny Sun
<><><><><><>
In the film, Bruce Lee starts a "training Dojo", a place where anyone can
learn martial arts. Many chinese fighters thought this ruins the secret
chinese fighting arts, learning them to others than asian people, and this
pisses them off. A guy called "Johnny Sun" challenges you. If Bruce loses,
he stops the training. If he wins, he continues. In the movie, Bruce
wins(but Johnny comes back).

Johnny fights quite aggressively. As you notice, he almost never blocks,
only goes for attack. So if you want to beat him, hit back quickly. He is
quite fast though, so watch out. His main attacks is his jump kick, and
fists. The best way to defeat him is to use the air. Yes I know, in the
beginning Johnny just does his jump kick and you'll get thrown to the
ground, all the time. You think I try to trick you? No, the problem is that
you do it too late. If you jump up in the right time(meanwhile he does) and
then strike with the slap attack(jump +Y/X-button), he'll be hit. You
better learn this strategy because when you know how to use it, Johnny
stands no chance. When you master the technique, hit him once and Johnny
will fall back, but turn into a rage and jump up again. Then you can hit
him again with this attack, because he is lower than you and then his kick
attack can't hit you, and everything will repeat. Keep hitting him like
this until he's knocked off. Then use a groundbreaker. Repeat this attack
until he gives. You can also use the low strong kick, it works pretty good
but if you learn how to jump and hit Johnny(before he does) with that fist-
claw attack, you'll win.

Don't use the fighter mode, you can use the nunchaku if you feel for it,
but be a bit careful.

< > < > < > < >
|Main Tactic:| Use the cat-claw attack(slap attack) against him, several
times until he gives, and then use groundbreaker. You can also use the
strong low kick.

EASY

::::::::::::::
The two babes
::::::::::::::
This sequence is out of the movie. Suddenly Bruce is attacked by a girl
carrying a staff. Whoops, fight!

These girls may look pretty but they are real fighters! Don't underestimate
them, actually I think they are the hardest enemies in the game(except the
phantom). So be careful!

First you fight one of the enemies. The other one appears later. Their
major attacks will be their low strong kicks, slide attacks, and the cane
attack. Watch out for their slide attacks and their low strong kicks, they
hurt! And for gods sake, don't stand in the middle if they are two! They'll
kick you from one side to the other, between each other and you'll lose
lots of energy and you cannot get out of there before you are knocked.
Watch out for this because you can lose the whole battle because of this.
And of course Bruce will jump up when he is knocked, and then he might has
the habit of jumping up in the middle again. So keep away from the middle,
fight them both from one side of the screen.

When the fight starts, there is one enemy. Jump up and strike her with the
cat-claw attack until she's knocked. Then do a groundbreaker. At this time,
the other one appears. The boss will now be harder(more difficult to fight
2 than 1). Now you got to use the cat-claw attack as much as you can, wipe
them off and use the groundbreaker. Try to stay in the air as much as
possible, they won't take you down. Don't stand on the ground so much,
because then they just kick you. The two/three major attacks you should use
is the groundbreaker, the cat-claw attack, and the low strong kick(bend
down, press the B-button). These attacks are the best you can use. If the
opponents get near, use the low strong kick so you can get them away(+they
lose energy). If you get a chance to use the groundbreaker, they lose a lot
of energy. And of course the cat claw attack knocks them off.

Try to concentrate on one enemy(probably the one with less energy), because
if you get one dead the battle will be easier.

If you use these attacks, you'll make it after some practise. Don't use
fighter or nunchaku-mode, it will just confuse and complicate things.

_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
|Main attacks:| USE THE CAT-CLAW ATTACK! And the low-strong kicks,
+groundbreaker.

HARD

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Black dude again
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It comes a dude to Bruce's Kwoon and is really pissed because Bruce's
stealing his pupils. He challenges Bruce, and of course there is a fight.

It's the same guy as before(but dressed in a white suit, not blue), just a
little stronger. And it's about the same tactics to use. He uses strong
kicks, and blocks a lot of your attacks. Try to use the cat claw attack, as
long as it goes, then use fast punches. Finish him off if you have the
chance, because this guy can really fight back if you let him be(he got
very strong attacks).

If you can, use the nunchaku(I assume you know how to use it), quite handy
against this guy, don't use the fighter mode.

" " " " " " " "
|Main attacks:| Quick, fast punches, cat claw attack.

NORMAL

|||||||||||||||||||||||
Johnny Sun(60 seconds)
|||||||||||||||||||||||
Bruce says he can defeat any man within 60 secs, and guess who challenges!
The same crazy guy steps up and the fight starts.

He's exactly as before(dressed in pants, no t-shirt), the same moves, the
same weaknesses. As you can see, he plays aggressively. The only way you
could lose to him is that that the clock ticks down, and when it's down to
0, you're dead. So don't let that happen. Sounds hard? Nah, not really. If
you just keep concentrated you'll make it. Don't get nervous about the
time, you'll make it.

Use the cat-claw attack against him(as I learned you in the previous Johnny
section) and you'll win. For more information, read the previous Johnny
section.

Don't use the fighter or nunchaku mode, you don't have time for it.

. . . . . . .
|Main attacks:| Use the cat claw attack, and use it quickly so the time
doesn't run out.

EASY

***************
Muay thai dude
***************
This guy is in the movie, and Bruce fights him.

You fight him in the "Big Boss set", where a lot of ice is.

He's quite big, tall and pretty strong, dressed in a green suit. But if you
just fight on, you'll beat him badly. Use the cat-claw attack if you can,
then that doesn't work, use quick and fast punches, then duck and hit him
with a strong low kick. Then use a groundbreaker. The dude will be defeated
pretty soon and flee.

Bruce follows his tracks and pretty soon there comes several ice blocks
against you. No matter how many you crash there will come new. Instead, you
have to go forward if something is about to happen. The best way to
approach to the left is to jump and make the jump kick(Jump and press A/B-
button in direction you want to) and Bruce jumps over the ice blocks easily
and the whole sequence will be over. It's much easier to use the jump
attack than smashing all ice blocks that come.

When you're there, you see that it was the guy that threw the ice blocks.
Fight him again, use light quick punches until he gives. He is pretty easy.

Don't use the fighter mode, you might test the nunchaku.

)( ) ( ) ( ) ( )(
|Main strategy:| Use quick fast punches.

Outside movie challenger:
.........................
A guy comes and challenges Bruce, this is not in the movie. This is the
last enemy before the phantom, so be sure to have enough "Shi" to use as
nunchaku-mode when the battle is finished, you need the nunchaku against
the demon.

He's dressed in a green suit, wearing a claw at his hand.(He reminds me
about the evil guy in "Enter the Dragon", maybe it's supposed to be him? I
mean, he looks the same and also he has that dreadful claw on the left
hand...) This dude is also pretty easy. Use the cat-claw attack, then get
him with low strong kicks, etc. Do as you want, he'll lose.

Don't use the fighter or the nunchaku-mode, you need it on the phantom.

|Main tactics:| Use the cat-claw, and low strong kicks. I bet you beat that
guy pretty easily.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@
The phantom
@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Now, we're deep into it! "What's happening?!? The phantom!!!!!!"
We have to fight this baddy! Ok, I got some theories and stuff here, so if
anyone just wants to fight the boss, head down a bit. But for anyone that
fought the demon before and wants to know everything about it, read on.

Please, anyone that knows anything about this phantom, mail me!! I would be
very grateful if you do, because I tried many many hours to beat this
guy(about 5-6 h), but I haven't. Now I'm pretty sure you can't beat him
because I've tested every kind of technique. But if anyone out there has
beaten him(you, feel proud) mail and tell me, please! I would be very glad.
My mail adress is [email protected]

I've searched the net a lot but I've never found anything about this
phantom. So if you know anything, please!

(Read on for more info, about the demon)

Here are my experiences from the phantom:

I am pretty sure he is invicible, that you cannot beat him. So why do I
think so then? Well, there are a few things that lead to that, for example:
if you enter the boss with three or two lives, and lose against him, it's
game over immediately. You don't even get a second chance, no matter how
many lives you have. This is pretty weird, right? It was almost like it was
meant to be game over then, right?

Another thing is that when I fight the demon and I've hit him so much as
his energy is out totally(he has no energy left, I promise) and I keep
hitting him he won't die!!! I know his energy was gone and I hit him
several times but he didn't die. Can he be defeated or not? Is there a
special technique that should be used or what? Once I succeeded a neck-tie
on the phantom(when he had about half the energy left) and then it looked
real strange, not like the usual times Bruce chokes an opponent. It looked
like the phantom was going to die but he got loose and threw me down in the
ground again. Now I'm wondering if that should be used against the boss,
like if he should be out of energy and then I should use it like a
"finish-him-off" move?

One more thing is that I think most enemies is quite easy in this game(even
on tough) so I beat them easily(sorry if you think I'm boasting, but it is
like this) but when I come to the phantom, everything's just over. And this
seems really weird to me...

I don't know. But for now, I see myself as I've beaten the game, because it
looks like you're supposed to be defeated there.

It looks like the boss can't be beaten, but on the other hand, a game
without an ending looks strange! Don't you think? I don't think the ending
"game over" is the last that happens when you beat a game. So I still
figure about this......

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
TACTICS
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
These are my tactics against the demon:

First, I want to tell you this is very very hard and might be all
worthless. As you know, I don't even know if he can be beaten(I don't think
so). You might be wasting your time doing this, because you maybe already
found the end when you came to the phantom, if he is "undefeatable".
I warn you, this can be very annoying and I wouldn't be surprised if you
get pissed off along the way.

But if you want to try, here's a tactic I used to "almost" kill him(as long
as you can, probably):

(If you can't beat him, no matter how much you tried and used my tactic,
it's not my fault if you wasted time on this, because I warned you, right?
I reserve myself against anything like this, I warned you know, and if you
fail against the demon, it's not my fault)

|tactic|

As soon as you fight the demon, immediately change from normal mode to
nunchaku-mode(mode button+z-button). Without the nunchaku, you're dead. Now
comes the hard part, let the phantom approach near you, and when he is just
about to hit you with his sword, jump over him to the other side(near him)
and hit him with your nunchaku. This is very hard to master, and it takes a
lot of patience. And you must also concentrate and hide your feelings(if
you're nervous, it will never work). When you learned this tactic, do it
over and over again, hit him with your nunchaku until he has nothing
left(hard to do).

Then here comes what I think is the only way to defeat him(but I've never
done it). As you can see he doesn't die no matter how much you hit him with
the nunchaku when his energy is out. I think you have to finish him off in
some kind of way. Test to use the neck-tie on him. To do this, you must run
into him and press the X-button. If you succeed, Bruce jumps up and chokes
the phantom. But I never succeeded to do this, when the phantom had no
energy left(I just did it once, when he had about half the energy left).
Maybe he'll die this way, I don't know. Good luck, you'll need it. If you
win, please tell me.

IMPOSSIBLE?

Yakuza's review for Dragon: The Bruce Lee story!!!

The game was made 1993, by the Great Britannian company(England) company
Virgin. The game is based on the legendary fighter Bruce Lee's life,
according to the movie with the same name. Of course you're Bruce Lee,
fighting baddies out there. For anyone that likes fighting games and
looking for old ones to cheap prices, this might be an alternative.

I really recommend if buying(and even if you don't buy the game) you should
watch the movie; Dragon: the Bruce Lee story because it's definitely worth
seeing and a kind of culture in martial arts...

Here are the catagories, and the scores. Enjoy!

*Story:*
(Intro sequence in Dragon)

-Hong Kong 1961-
(Bruce's father)"Bruce!" "The demon..." "He knows who you are". "These
mirrors will protect you." "You will die in Hong Kong. I've seen it in a
dream." I've thought a lot of this for a very long time." "You must leave."
"You were born in a San Fransisco hospital". "They have to let you in!" "I
saved it for you, for a day like this." "Tell me you will make a big noise
in America so I can here it over here!"

The storyline follows the movie as much as possible(except that you fight a
few more enemies). Following to the chinese knowledges, we all have inner
demons to fight. "Anger", "hate", "fear" are some of them, and all of these
have to be vanquished, otherwise they root inside and finally possess the
body. Since Bruce was a child, the demon has been after him. His
grandfather was a great martial arts student, but he couldn't defeat his
inner fears, and that's why the demon was brought over to the next
generation. Bruce's father didn't believe the story first but at his later
years, he recognized the situation. But he was too old to fight it, and
then it was brought over to the next child; Bruce. And Bruce's father knows
the demon is after him. When Bruce was a child, his father dressed him in a
girl's clothes, changed his name to an american, everything to avoid the
demon. But now he knows...Bruce thinks his father is just superstitious but
later on, he will know the truth...

Anyway, Bruce's father tells him to leave Hong Kong and gives him a lot of
money. So then the journey starts and Bruce travels all the way over the
sea to america. But at the end, the demon finds him and a showdown of life
and death starts, and only one can be the survivor! Will Bruce overcome his
inner fears and vanquish the demon, or is it too strong? Well, see the
movie and play the game now, I don't want to ruin the end...

The story won't effect the game so much for people just interested in the
fighting scenes, but for the people interested in chinese traditions and
customs it can be fine. But overall, the story is not so important. But I
think it's kinda good though.

(What's interesting is that nobody, or maybe I should say the public
does'nt really know how Bruce died. Some say that he took an overdose, some
people say he was assassinated, others tell stories about that he practiced
so hard that he died, and then there is also this legend about the "inner
demon".)

Score story: 8.2/10

|Challenge:|
I own Dragon: the Bruce Lee story. I've been playing it for at least 10-15
hours and I know almost every move and technique in the game. I've been
playing it to the end at least 7 times, but I've never beaten it. I'm
telling you this so you know that I didn't play the game just for a few
minutes and then make a review for it. It can seem strange why I'm not
putting a score on the challenge catagory, but if you read on, you'll see
why. This might be one of the hardest games all time, or not so hard. So
what am I talking about? Well, in Dragon: The B.L.S. there's a very hard
boss in the end(the phantom) which I've never beaten. I'm pretty sure he
can't be beaten, but I'm not 100% because I haven't heard anything about
him from anyone else. Anyway, this phantom seems impossible, and then I
think the game is hard to beat. But the other enemies you'll face are quite
much easier. You can choose among many diffculties, "Piece of cake",
"Easy", "Normal", "Tough", and "Arcade". The game is pretty hard to beat in
the beginning cause it's difficult to master all techniques, but when you
find a strategy you can use it against most enemies.

Score challenge: ¤/10 (Don't know for 100% if it can be beaten)

=Graphic:=
Being a SNES/Mega drive game, this isn't very bad. Of course you get much
better graphics for a PS2 game. For Genesis, this isn't bad, but not so
great either. The backgrounds are quite nice, the only things I'm
complaining about is the characters and some of the moves. The characters
could look a little better(except Bruce, he was well done) and the moves
could have been a little more smooth. But otherwise it's nice.

Score graphic: 7.5/10

*Control:*
Perhaps the most important catagory for a fighting (beat 'em up) game.
Dragon has a nice and fitting control, you control Bruce as you want. You
have lots of combinations to use, here are a few: strong/light kicks,
strong/light punches, throws, fatalities, roundkicks, chokes, flying kicks,
etc. etc. But the best thing with Dragon  is that you have different
"modes" to play as. If Bruce fights well and hits his opponent many times
without being hit himself, or if he gets the first hit in a battle, or if
he picks up an item, he gains "shi". Shi is Bruce's own mysterious inner
force that gives him extra power which can be used for different modes. You
have three modes to choose among; "normal", "fighter" and "nunchaku". All
these modes make the game more varying and in each mode you can create
different and deadly attacks, for example Bruce is much quicker in
"fighter" mode, he can punch and kick much quicker. In "nunchaku-mode" he
can use nunchakus, a very powerful weopon. All this is well done in the
control and everything works real fine. The only thing I'm going to
complain about the controls is the blocking. It's quite hard to block an
opponent. But oh well, the attacks and the other controls make up for it.
Well done, Virgin, a fighting game with better controls is hard to find!

Score control: 8.7/10

¤Music/Sound:¤
(Music/sound is hard to describe, I just wanted to say that :).
If not so good, very fitting. It succeeds to capture the mystic chinese
motion music which fits very good to a fighting game like this. The sound
is better than the music, if that can be compared. The attacks and
punching/kicking sounds are great, with a lot of realistic noises.
¤You can actually hear the bones getting crushed when Bruce does his
"groundbreaker"¤(special attack, it hurts, trust me). The sound is very
good, music is decent.

Score Music/Sound: 8.6/10

~Gameplay:~
Maybe the best catagory Dragon has to offer. When you think you played
Dragon to the end, you recognize that there are more to investigate. Thanks
to the fenomenal "fighting modes"(fighter, nunchaku, normal) the game gets
more interesting when you can fight with nunchakus, and powered up speed.
And then you also get more techniques to master. In fact there are up to 36
moves to find!(Even if all of them are not so important, you might only use
about 8-10 to beat the game). But it's not only the modes that increase the
gameplay score. Dragon got Scenario mode(where you play as Bruce through
his life, following the storyline from the movie, +some extra sequences),
battle mode(where you can play against a computer, against another player)
but the most amusing part of the game is that you actually can play 3
players against each other! Yeah you heard me, I've never heard about any
other fighting game where you can fight 3 persons against each other, (not
even in days like this with Tekken Tag Tournament, Soul Calibur, Power
Stone, Marvel VS Capcom 2, Street fighter alpha 3, etc.) This is very fun,
imagine you and your buddies fighting against each other, three persons!
There will be a lot of fights, I tell ya.

But remember, a fighting game can't hold forever(they intend to be the
catagory of games that end first, that's at least what I think), but Dragon
holds a long while, especially to be a fighting game. A disadvantage in the
gameplay might be that you can only play as Bruce, no other characters.
That's why Street fighter 2 gets a little better, it's more varying. But
Bruce makes up for it by better control/fighting scenes.
After you discovered everything in Dragon, it might intend to not be so fun
anymore, at least not for the lonely player. Then you got to invite some
friends, and fight against each other. Then it holds a little while more,
but after that, you probably played it to the end.

Score gameplay: 9.1/10

=Replay value:=
Well, thanks to the phantom at the end(that possibly can't be defeated)
most of you will play through the game again just to get a second chance
again. Myself, I played to him at least 7 times before I gave up. That will
keep you replaying the game, if nothing else. But otherwise, Dragon is a
game you can replay a few times. Thanks to the many moves, 2P mode fighting
+ the 3P mode, and the practice scenarios, you may keep playing it more
than other games. Dragon holds for a while, at least 10-15 hours, and the
replay value is quite high.

Replay score: 8.5/10

+Summary:+
Buy it for 8-14 U.S. dollars(or less), you won't regret it. But the best
way to enjoy Dragon: The B.L.S. is to be a fan of beat 'em up and Bruce
Lee. If you're a peaceful person, don't get this one. I recommend you to
watch the movie, before you play the game also, it gives you some more
inspiration and stuff. Dragon is a nice fighting game, with lots of moves
and cool attacks, but the graphics and music could have been a little
better(Notice: I'm not saying it's bad, just that the control is better).
Of course I think T.T.T.(tekken tag tournament)is better, but hey...1993,
it's 7 years.

Overall score: 8.4/10
