I. INTRODUCTION
...................

I'm Mike, better known as LostInGeneral, and I wrote the original
edition of this FAQ five years ago. I can't believe how long it's
been and I thought it might be best just to let this die, but I
figured I might as well make this piece of junk into something
worth looking at.
It's still there, under my same name (it was the first time I ever
used the nickname) but I can't get into that damn account anymore,
so there it sits, a testament to my failure.
In the original edition, I had no idea what the hell I was doing
and I came out with something atrocious. The names were all made
up, because I couldn't read any Japanese; my main goal for this
update was to translate the important parts of the game so it's
actually accurate and people who don't speak the language (myself
partially included) can understand what's going on.
Aside from that, I've cleaned it up a touch and added bits of
info that weren't there before or removed unnecessary portions,
but mostly, this final edition is just a translate job.
If you had to suffer through the previous two versions (and I
can't see why you would be reading this if you did; this game can
not take five years to complete, and I challenge you to try) I
sincerely apologize for the crap I created.
Now, without further ado, the FAQ.

IIb. SECRET CHARACTERS
...................

For all the trouble I went through to find them,
the secret characters probably weren't worth it.
But here is a list of them (there are four)
and their locations. Secret Characters are
worth a spoiler alert, so, there you have it.

THE THIEF: Yabin
You can get Yabin in the second dungeon (the Valley Cave) once
you are inside the actual dungeon, go to the second room. Go to the
lower-left corner, then go up into the small square area, then
up to the northern wall and walk into it. You will be
in a room, and the thief will be behind a wall.
A bit of dialogue commences. Yabin tells you that he(?) is a thief
from Grandol, who came to the Dark Road looking for the
Gem Fragment for the goddess Zama. After he's done with his
introduction he notices you happen to be a Hero of Light and that
you have a Gem Fragment, so he decides to join up with you. He's
steadfast in this; he explicitly states he'll do it whether you
let him or not. Stubborn bastard. Then the wall disappears
and Yabin runs away. Don't worry - you can select
him/her/it (what the hell is that thing, anyway?) at the Rulvesos.

THE BARD: Poron
After you have beaten the third dungeon (the Cursed Forest)
talk to the Bard in Moon Village. He'll tell you he's a traveller
that has forgotten everything but how to play his harp. Tragic.
Unfortunate he's not already in your party, or he could write you
a touching song, perhaps one accompanied by a lute or a lyre or some
other generic medieval instrument starting with "l"...
That's enough of that. Go to Rulvesos, to the upper-left corner,
into the little house. Talk to the old man. Evidently you asked him
about his research and he tells you he needs a specific book to finish.
This book is in the castle library, a whopping thirty yards away from him.
This means, of course, you have to fetch the thing for him, because his legs
are only good for walking on the spot. Which he does. With gusto.
Go to the castle, and enter the door on the right-hand side (the library).
Examine the third bookshelf from the left in the top row, and return to the old
man. If you were wondering, the book you got was [Miracle Drug! The Panacea]
and it's pretty much what you'd expect. It talks about herbs, etc.
Bring it back to the old man and he'll tell you he was missing the Jama (or
something along thos lines; I'm assuming it's some kind of herb) and he's going
to start on a new experiment.
He will then give you the panacea he was working on. Go back to Moon Village
and talk to the bard to give it to him. He tells you he can remember
everything now; he introduces himself as Poron, a man sent from the heavens.
He thinks that the Demon Rain is what caused him to lose his memory,
and he's very grateful for your help. So, to show his gratitude, he
wants to help you out. He runs off the the Hero Room, and congratulations.
You've got the Bard.

THE DRAGON: Kodol
After you visit Sapphire the first time, go back. Several times. Sapphire, it
seems, has many tidbits of information. On the first return trip, she tells you
about the Miracle Gem and how it has the power to make the Crystal
Bean sprout up to heaven. Wow. She also says there are fifteen of them, one
for each Demon, and they're needed to seal the Fifteen Demons away. With the
Gem Fragments your power will increase, please perservere, etc. Then she kicks
you out, I guess.
The second trip, she tells you a little about how the Miracle Gem shattered.
Then she gives you a Gem Fragment, so that's basically a free level for you.
On the third (and final) trip, a dragon will be sitting beside the fairy.
Talk to her, and she asks you to take her dragon with you. Since Groll is gone
she no longer needs him to protect her. It seems the Dragon - who she introduces
as Kodol - is the child of the Heavenly Dragon, and is certain to become
very powerful later on. Gnarly. Now you're done. Easy enough.

THE ROBOT: Bi-Bo
After you have cleared the Morgana Desert Sanctuary, go through it again all
the way to where Watashi was. The robot will be beside it. A pre-recorded
message plays, telling you the robot's name is Bi-Bo and Watashi wanted it
to accompany you.
The robot starts up, and joins you. It heads to the Hero Room.

III. STORY
...................

With a substantial amount of assistance I translated the whole damn intro.
 Sit tight:

When the Demon Rain falls,
The ground will turn to dirt,
And the sea will lose its shine.
- Legend, from the Grandol Royal Library -

There once was a peaceful realm,
known as Grandol...

There was a time when demons had taken Grandol,
and the world was on the edge of destruction.
But with the power of the Miracle Gem, peace was restored.

Afterwards, the powerful Miracle Gem was shattered and sealed
away, since the peace of Grandol had been obtained.

Then, on a certain day, one hundred years later...

Suddenly, an enormous cloud took over the Grandol sky,
and the Demon Rain started to fall.

The wicked power of the Demon Rain
changed the nature of Grandol.
And when the Demon Rain stopped,
a castle appeared atop the clouds...

At this point, in the aftermath of the Demon Rain,
the Demon Holes started showing up.
Monsters began to appear from these.

The Demon Rain seeped deep underground,
where long ago the fragments of the Miracle Gem
were sealed with fifteen demons.

They reawakened. In the large Rulvesos Castle,
the voice of a goddess reached King Rulvesos...

"King Rulvesos, demons are taking over
everything, even to Heaven itself.
But there is hope; items called the Crystal
Beans can be used to our advantage.
They can call the Heroes of Light,
to save Grandol!!"

When the goddess' voice faded,
a light shot down from the Heavens to Rulvesos castle,
to a room known as the "Hero Room".

Here, weapons appeared around a Crystal Bean,
delivered by the goddess...

And the Heroes of Light appeared,
to aid King Rulvesos.

Now, with the power of the Crystal,
the Heroes of Light have come down
from the Heavens.
They set out...

IV. ITEMS
...................

I'll make this brief (which is pretty easy to do, seeing as there are so
few items). You'll find that none of these are in very short supply, and
even the rarest items show up at least three times in a game.

MAGIC SEED - Gives you an extra continue.
LITTLE HEART - Restores 7 health.
BIG HEART - Restores 33 health.
MAGIC SHOE - Temporarily boosts your speed.
CAPE OF INVULNERABILITY - Makes you temporarily invulnerable.
MIRROR OF REFLECTION - Makes your shots bounce.
GEM FRAGMENT - Increase your level by one. Color = stat.
BLACK MAGIC SKULLS - Lets you use a black magic attack once you have enough.
How many you need depends on your intelligence.
WHITE MAGIC VIALS - You carry around and use them to heal you when needed.
How much you are healed, again, depends on your intelligence.

I'm not sure, but I think heart quality rises as you gain levels.
It could just be stamina that affects it, but whatever.

...................

V. CONROLS
...................

This game would be hard to play without controls. Observe:

A - Confirm, talk
B - Fire weapon
Y - Short-range spin attack (if it hits, you lose health)
X - Return to map (villages and castles only)
L - Use White Magic Vial
R - Use Black Magic Skull(s)
START - Pause, Character Menu.
SELECT - N/A

VI. WALKTHROUGH
...................

-----------------------------------------------------------------
RULVESOS CASTLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

After choosing a character, you will find yourself in the throne
room of Rulvesos Castle. That's the name. I didn't make it up, this
time. It's still a wickedly dumb name, though.
The king has a lot of junk to say, and it's a bit redundant. In short,
he says he's glad you were brought down from the heavens, and that he
really wants you to protect Grandol from Demons. Which you probably
already knew, since that's basically your only purpose for existing.
He tells you the first of the Fifteen Demons can be found in the nearby
Volcano Cave, so that's our destination.
If you want, you can go around the town and the castle collecting
items. When you are done, push X and go on to the world map.
Move the control pad left or right, it doesn't make much of a difference -
your only options right now are the castle, or the Volcano Cave.
Choose the Volcano Cave, obviously.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE VOLCANO CAVE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I paraphrased the name a little. It's more like Fire-blowing Mountain Cavern,
but that somehow loses its effect in translation.
Anyway, soon as you get in, you'll see generators in front of you
so shoot them a few times to get rid of them the monsters they created,
then continue on.
You will see more generators (expect a lot of them throughout the game,
prob'ly somewhere in the hundreds) so destroy them. An obvious note:
DO NOT STEP IN THE DAMN LAVA.
It saps your health ridiculously quickly, Just go on (pretty straight forward)
then go down the set of stairs.
Go down, make a right, then back up and follow through the
zig-zag to the next set of stairs. Go down them and you should be in
a hallway-like area, with generators spewing little... ash-guys. Take
them out, then go down the stairs at the end of the hall.

O-----------------------------------O
VOLCANO CAVE BOSS : SALAMANDER
O-----------------------------------O

He talks a good game, but he's not too tough.
...actually, it's more like the other way around. All he says is that
the Fifteen Demons will destroy anything that gets in their way, and
that your efforts are useless. Mmm... generic.
Seriously, though, this boss can be annoying. As most bosses in Crystal
Beans.  Be wary of the ram statues on either side of the room - they shoot
fire which takes off about 5 health each hit. Again, be careful not to
step in the lava. Just make sure the salamander doesn't touch you,
and fire shots at him at every chance. Pretty soon, POOF! Away he goes.
Wait until the color of your desired stat appears on
the Gem Fragment, then grab it. I recommend you get the seed, then just leave,
and you're back in the Rulvesos throne room.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
DARK ROAD
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The king spews some more useless common knowledge at you when you
return, telling you that the color of the Gem Fragments match the
stats they level. Then he tells you his brother, the king of Peridot,
wants to meet you, and asks you if you want to go. Answer yes (it's on the left,
and it's the default).

You should have a new area available to you; this is Dark Road, and you're going
here next. Smash through all the holes in front of you (these are the generators
until you get into the cave) then go down the stairs. Go down the next flight
of stairs and you are in a large room. Smash the harpy  generators quick -
they can be a fairly large annoyance. Break the crumbling rocks - it shouldn't
take more than a few hits - then move on. Destroy the harpy generators, (you can
get the thief now if desired, see the Secret Characters section) then head
upwards and go up the next set of stairs.
You can get the heart here if you need it, then go up the next set of stairs.
You should now be back above ground; take out the generators, then prepare for
another boss battle in the cave door.

O-----------------------------------O
DARK ROAD BOSS : TITO DOJI
O-----------------------------------O

Tito Doji starts off by saying he's disgusted you would try
to take his precious Gem Fragment. Lovely.
This boss can be easy or hard, depending on how you fight it.
I don't have much of a strategy, but I'll give it my best shot
anyway. Keep moving, for one. Don't let him touch you. If he
does, you're probably doomed, seeing as he'll go over top of
you and drain your health, pretty quickly. But don't run so
much you can't shoot him; remember, he's not very fast, you can stop
for a few seconds to fire shots.
Even keep moving when he's teleporting - sometimes he will get
faster after a teleport, so you have to be careful. Just hit
him alot and don't get hit too much yourself, and pretty soon
he's gone. Grab your Gem Fragment and leave.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
RABIS VILLAGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Good to get away from the dungeons for a little bit, I guess.
You can get some Black Skulls from various houses, and when
you're ready to leave, just go to the first house across the bridge,
and talk to the man inside. He tells you that he's heard of a
magical treasure in Moon Village, so, naturally, that's where you
have to go next. But there's a forest in the way. Instead of going
around it, you have to go inside, for some reason. Fifteen Demons,
my ass. Push X, and go to there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE SUPERNATURAL FOREST
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The name here could also be translated to "the fascinating forest"
or "the weird forest", but I'll stick with this one.
This place doesn't have any real generators above ground, just
below. The moving trees spit fireballs, be careful of that. When
you start, go left, then keep going down. When you can no longer
go down, turn left and then go down the first set of stairs you see.
Kill the skeletons and their generators, then move up to the flame-
spitting spiders. It's all a matter of timing - of course, if you
don't want that, you can just destroy them. Once you're past
head up the stairs on the left.

O-----------------------------------O
SUPERNATURAL FOREST BOSS : ADOBAIS
O-----------------------------------O

I'm not 100% positive that's his name. If it's not, then he doesn't
have one. I'm basing it entirely on what a girl in Moon Village says,
which could be interpreted in a totally different way.
His intro has him saying that everything in the forest is part of him,
and that even though you're a hero, there's no chance for you.
Really, though, this guy can be the easiest boss in the game if you fight
it right. Here's how: Run to the very top of the room on the right side. Go
very close to him but not too close (when he sways to the right, about
the very tip of his supposed "elbow") Just fire
shots at him. He can't touch you if you are positioned right, and neither
can his leaves. Just keep this up until he dies. Grab the Gem Fragment, then
head out. I recommend you go to the right once you are
above ground again to grab the magic seed. Head out the door and welcome
back to the world map.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
MOON VILLAGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Once you are on the world map again, you will find you actually have
two new areas available. But don't bother going to the skull place just yet;
it will be too dark and you leave automatically. But no fear! Just head
to the new town that is open (you can get the Bard now, again, see Secret
Characters) There are items in every town; you can get the ones here, if you
like, then go into the house that has a wooden railing and several flowers
in front of it. Go talk to the old man. Presumably, he's some kind of...
village elder, or something. I don't know. He says that since you're going
to kill Minotauros (that's the next Demon you're up against, FYI) then it's
time he gave away the Moonlight Lamp, which is the village's precious
treasure. A'ight. Now you can go into the fourth dungeon.
Press X and go to the skull place. This is the Labyrinth of Darkness, where
Minotauros chills.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
LABYRINTH OF DARKNESS
-----------------------------------------------------------------

This dungeon isn't too bad, but it has some irratating parts to it.
The wizards in here are amongst those - they shoot these little
stars. Monsters that shoot from a distance aren't exactly on my favorites
list; good thing is, there aren't many of these monsters in the game. Also,
there are these purple flames that come out of generators occasionally that
do about 34 damage per hit and have a lot of hit points. These are actually
in all dungeons (or at least, most of them).
From the start, go up until you see a little square. This is a teleporter,
and you'll see a lot of them here. Go along the path. The flames aren't too bad;
I'd suggest you go right up to the area before the flame so you don't
get hit, then wait unil the second it stops moving and run to the next
safe area. Just walk along; you will come across two teleporters. Choose
the one on the left; the one on the right will take you back to about
right before the flames.
From here, just follow the path destroying any generators
and monsters you come across, if necessary. Walk into the teleporter.
When you see the fork, choose the lower one and go into the teleporter. Just
go on and you will be at another flame hallway
This one isn't too much different from the first - just use the same strategy
as before and you should be okay. Go into the teleporter.
Choose either way in this room - it doesn't matter, they both end up in the
same place, anyways. Just go on until you reach the teleporter, and walk in.
There are two teleporters here; take the bottom one. They
both lead to the same place, but the lower one saves a lot of time (and health,
for that matter) Take the teleporter up in the corner and then prepare
for a boss battle in the next teleporter.

O---------------------------------------O
LABYRINTH OF DARKNESS BOSS : MINOTAUROS
O---------------------------------------O

So apparently Minotauros has been terrorizing Rabis Village, and
he figures that since you're there, you came to stop him. So, he decides
to change his priority to killing you. Flattering.
Alright then, let's get this over with.
As with all bosses, avoid being touched and shoot him at every chance.
Be careful when he hits the ground. The first time, it will release those
metal balls from the corners. It will freeze you any other time.
minotaur but, unfortunately, his balls keep swinging (yes, a balls joke. I'm
hilarious). They can run over you while you are unable to move (unfair, I know)
just avoid being hit by them when you CAN move.
Remember, just keep shooting Minotauros, and if you have any white vials, you
should use them when necessary. Once Minotauros is dead, grab the Gem Fragment
in whatever color and leave.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
RABIS VILLAGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

When you go to the world map, you will see you do not have the next area
opened. Just return to Rabis Village. In here, go to the house across
the bridge again, and, again, talk to the man in the red. I have no idea
why you have to do this again. He doesn't even recognize that you saved his
village from constant terror at the hands of a giant demon; he just asks
if you found the treasure in Moonlight Village. Somehow, though, this
qualifies as a way to access the next area, which is fortunately your
destination. Woohoo. Let's go, shall we?

-----------------------------------------------------------------
PERIDOT CASTLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Finally. Three Demons, an androgynous thief and an absent-minded bard
later you've arrived at Peridot, which, if you remember, is your original
reason for leaving Rulvesos after killing Salamander. When
you get in here, go straight up and talk to the king. He says that his
brother told him about all the terrible goings-on in Rulvesos. Then he
talks about a temple curated by a fairy named Sapphire in his
country, but when the goddess' seal on the Fifteen Demons was broken
by the Dark God, Groll - one of the Fifteen Demons, obviously - was
reawakened, and he decided to take up residence in the tunnel passing
under Fairy Lake, which is unfortunately the only way to the temple.
Since he's a threat to the shrine and Sapphire, it's very serious,
it seems. And naturally, he wants you to save him. So say "yes", because
otherwise all you can do is bum around Peridot and hang out with the
people who only know how to phrase one sentence (damn you, Peridot
educational system).
You can also get some items if you desire (there is a massive treasure trove
in the upper-left corner in the town, just walk in to where the door
should be). Then return to the world map and go to yer new area.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
DEMON SEAL
-----------------------------------------------------------------

For some reason they sealed most of the Fifteen Demons where it would
be most inconvenient to have them reappear. Groll is no exception.
Head down the stairs, and when you are presented with
an option for the stairs, choose the right-hand one. The left
one only contains a white vial, and way too many dangers for just
one. Every time you see a spiked log, walk close enough for it to
move, then quickly duck out of the way somewhere. From the beginning,
go left, then up, avoid the log, left a bit, up again (avoid the log again)
Keep going up, and choose either side of the X-Shaped room to go - they're
virtually identical. Go up and then left to the stairs (it's worth
it, there are three little hearts and a magic seed up there) Then go back down
once you have collected what is inside. Go right, then just continue on until
you reach some stairs. Go up them (weird, there are blobs like in the volcano
in this room) Then just walk across the room and go down the other stairs. Keep
going up from here, until you reach a hallway with two sets of stairs. Go on
the left one first; there is another magic seed in that room. Then leave to go
to the other set, and prepare for another boss battle.

O-----------------------------O
DEMON SEAL BOSS : GROLL
O-----------------------------O

Groll's an odd one, alright. Seems he went after Sapphire, but she flew
away before he could catch her. And then he gave up. Groll is officially
the laziest of the Fifteen Demons. I have no idea why they were so
concerned.
Despite that, though, this fight can be very tough. I don't have much of a
strategy for him; just try to stay relatively far away from him, and
avoid those circles he spits out. As usual, use White Vials
when necessary, and  if you can, when there are a lot of those circles,
use a Black Magic attack and it will likely destroy them all. When he
dies, grab your hard-earned Gem Fragment and get out of there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
DEMON SEAL
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately for you, you're not quite out yet, but you will be soon.
First, head to the lower-right corner and break the statue. Then, go
to the upper-right corner and break the statue there. Then go to the
upper-left corner and break the statue there. That only leaves the
bottom-left corner, so smash the statue there and walk up the stairs
in the top of the room. But unfortunately, you're still not out. Be
wary until you get out; walk slowly, because then you'll be able to
see spikes that pop out of the floor in advance. Just follow that
advice, and you'll be out in no time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
SAPPHIRE'S TEMPLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Go in and talk to the fairy (you can get the Dragon now, see Secret
Characters). That's all. That's it. Just talk to her. You can go to
the next section now if you don't give a damn about the story; otherwise
read on.
She'll thank you for killing Groll, and then tells you that you
have to go Papette Village at once. Turns out that everything in
Papette Village is connected to nature, and that near the village
is the World Tree, a giant tree that heals people. She says that
when the Fifteen Demons were unsealed one of them attached themselves
to the tree, and is poisoning it. If the World Tree withers, nature
falls apart, and there's nothing Sapphire can do about it. Not that
she really does anything, anyway. Then she gives you a little "Go,
Heroes of Light! Go and save the World Tree!". First, go back to the
temple, hear what she has to say, and go back again, and talk to her
one more time (repeat it once more if you want the Dragon). She'll give
you another Gem Fragment for free. That's an extra level for you; you
can't lose. If you want to know what she says I outlined it in the
Secret Characters section. Now, feel free to go to Papette.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
PAPETTE VILLAGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Oh, you better believe it's all natural. In Papatte, everybody is
made of trees, I guess. Or they are trees. Or something. As usual you
can get some items. When you are ready to leave, go to the first
house on the right (from the entrance) and talk to the guy
inside. He says Mucadelon of the Fifteen Demons (that's right, your
next opponent) is exhausting nature, and that the soul of the World
Tree is fading. Scary. There are a few others you can talk to as well
to achieve the same ends; it doesn't really matter.
Leave, you are able to go on.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE WORLD TREE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Time to save nature, like Captain Planet, only with less homosexuality.
Let's get on with this.
When you enter, don't bother going down either of the stairs you
see here. Just go on. When you get to the fork, go either side,
they both end up in the same place. To be frank, the trail is
pretty straight forward from here. When you see a set of large stairs,
prepare for a boss battle.

O-----------------------------O
WORLD TREE BOSS : MUCADELON
O-----------------------------O

There's the bastard who's been eating away at nature. Mucadelon
has an eating problem and an annoying laugh, much like your
favorite uncle. And, much like what may be your least favorite
uncle, he likes to trap you and rape you. Anyways, Mucadelon is
upset you interrupted his meal, but that's only briefly. Seems
he also enjoys eating heroes. Fair enough.
Let's take this clown out.
Let me start by saying that this is one helluvan annoying boss.
Just don't step where he steps, hit his head only, and watch
out for when he regroups that he doesn't hit you. Once he is dead,
the water will become clean again. Nature is restored. Praise
the Heroes of Light and what not.
The World Tree has some stuff to say to you before you go, however.
And there's a lot to be said. It's mostly stuff you've heard before,
about Miracle Gems and the Fifteen Demons. At the end of his speech
he directs you to the Sanctuary in Morgana Desert, which of course is
where you have to go next. Grab yo' Gem Fragment and hightail
it outta here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
MORGANA DESERT SANCTUARY
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Don't expect this to be as short as the World Tree. This place
is pretty long. Head in and choose the stairs that are in the
lower-left corner. Follow the path and ignore the first downwards
leading stairs, instead, head up the left path and go down those
stairs. Go to the next set of stairs in this room. The next room can
be quite annoying. Go in and stand on the upper-side of the block
nearest to the door. Go on a down-left angle and shoot the ram's head
until it is destroyed. Then you can go down. Go to the block nearest
to the flame but watch out for the spikes. When they are up, run down,
then when they are sideways, run towards the door. Go down to the stairs
and get ready for a boss battle.

O-------------------------------------------------O
DESERT SANCTUARY BOSS 1: GOMI OF THE DESERT
O-------------------------------------------------O

Not much can be said for Gomi's personality. Like most of the Fifteen
Demons, he thinks you don't have a chance against him even though you
totalled all his buddies. He also rambles. It's my favorite boss speech in the
game, because it's so stupid:

So this is the hero! Many of the Fifteen Demons
have met their end by you, but that is not important,
or perhaps it is, but that is neither here nor there.
     Meet Gomi, of the Desert!

Let's rawk.
He can be pretty annoying. For the first part, just keep shooting
him and the worms. Then, once he burrows, take out any remaining
worms, and when the mini-blobs start appearing, shoot them - they
take one hit each. Kill enough mini-blobs and the big blob will reapper.
Shoot him until he dies, just don't make yourself repeat the process -
kill him quick. Grab your Gem Fragment and leave. Head up to the teleporter,
and you're out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
MORGANA DESERT SANCTUARY PART 2
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, you're still here. And if you decide to leave, you have to
go through the first dungeon again (but not the boss, thankfully)
I wouldn't recommend taking the outer stairs, seeing as all that's
down there is a Cape of Invulnerability and it's really not worth
the trouble. But if you desire, you can. Whether you
chose to do it or not, go down the inner set of stairs. Be careful of
the blobs in here; they can be as hard to kill as the purple flames.
Follow the stairs down. When you get to the room with the spikeballs,
wait until they crash together then run to the next safe area. When
you are through, choose the path on the right. If a spikeball comes at
you, you should either dodge it or shoot it (I had a fighter when I
played through this walkthrough with fairly high attack, it took me
one shot to take out the spike balls but for weaker people I am not sure)
Also, be careful of the purple bugs at the bottom who shoot this disc things.
Go to the stairs leading down and be ready for another boss battle.

O-------------------------------------------------O
DESERT SANCTUARY BOSS 2 : EAGLEK
O-------------------------------------------------O

This thing's speech is fragmented, so I can't translate it too well.
It seems to  be talking about some kind of "system error", but
beyond that I have no idea. It's name is from the end of this dungeon;
it could be something else, but I'll stick with this since it makes
the most sense to me.
This boss can be amongst the annoying ones, but definetly not as
much so as Gomi of the Desert. Be careful not to be hit by the lava balls,
and shoot it as much as you can while the metal shield is off. When it
is on, make sure you don't hit it seeing as your shot has a good chance
of bouncing back at you. Point of interest: you can hurt it while its shell
is up if you use a spin attack. Just don't overdo it. Soon enough, you will
break the metal shell on it, and everything goes insane.
The head will bounce around the room constantly
spewing fireballs and everything is maaaddd. You're a lucky person if you
get out of that alive. Anyway, once it is dead, grab the Gem Fragment
and get out of there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
MORGANA DESERT SANCTUARY PART 3
-----------------------------------------------------------------

It's pretty straight forward, when you get to the area with
three teleporters choose the one on the left. Then go converse
with the brain in the tube.
From what I can gather here, the brain is a computer named Watashi,
and it speaks about in the third person (If you consider yourself a
Japanese speaker, please do not try to correct me here. Either his
name is Watashi, or he's somehow saying the word "watashi" in a
weird way, which doesn't make sense).
He tells you Morgana has a very large defense system, and that one
hundred years ago,  right before the Fifteen Demons arrived, it sunk
into the sand to avoid potential crisis. But one month later, the human
that created it left (or possibly died) leaving just the machines he
designed, such as Watashi and Eaglek. Then the Demon Rain came, they
waited. He says since Eaglek was destroyed (yeop) and they were
connected, Watashi will fail immediately, and that he is the last
of his kind. He says he has data regarding one of the Fifteen
Demons sealed in the Kolto plateau,  and that you should you
should go to Poe village for more information.
Then Watashi dies. Helpful. Aren't you glad you went through all that dungeon
exploring for this?
After the speech you'll automatically be warped out, and a new village
will be available to you. This is Poe Village. Go there.
Or, if you want, you can put that on hold to get the Robot...see the Secret
Characters section for more on that.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
POE VILLAGE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Go straight up after entering, into the little house, and talk to the
man inside. So much for "more infmoration"; all he tells you is that
in the Waterfall Cave on the Kolto Plateau, one of the Fifteen Demons
was sealed but it's been released. Of course, you knew that already.
Ignore the magic seed for now; you can't get it until later. Just
leave.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
KOLTO PLATEAU WATERFALL CAVE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Rockin' music, here.
Just sort of follow through the path, it's mostly straightforward.
The fire-breathing spiders are easily destroyed, just shoot them and
walk casually through where the flames formerly were. Eventually,
you'll come to a little hallway going upwards; this leads to the
next of the Fifteen Demons.

O-----------------------------------O
WATERFALL CAVE BOSS : NI-ZUHEG
O-----------------------------------O

Ni-Zuheg is the large dragon who occupies the Kolto Plateau Waterfall Cave
which provides water to Poe Village. I guess he might be causing problems
in the water supply, I don't know. Maybe I should have asked around.
He accuses you of taking the Gem Fragments from the Demons, and killing
his companions. Then he says he's going to show you his gratitude, which
of course means try to kill you. Backwards-ass Japanese.
Now, this boss isn't really that hard. whenever he spits a big fireball,
make sure to stay on an angle from it. If he starts shooting the
three-at-a-time, stay on his side. You can only hit him from the front.
Kill him, grab your Gem Fragment, and you're OUTTA HERE! Make sure to grab
the Magic Seed on your way out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
KOLTO PLATEAU WATERFALL CAVE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, you still have a bit to go. Ignore the first waterfall on
your way out (the little one) and go down the large one. Then
get off and head into the next room. In this room, stick to
one side of the hallway and move forward only when all the spikes
are in the middle and the one ahead of you is moving away from your
location. Then move on and you are on the world map again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
PORT MARIN
-----------------------------------------------------------------

What's the point of having only one port in the entire world? That would
mean the ships here can't go anywhere but back to Port Marin. I guess
you could go to Moon Village but there's no docks there... if you wanted
to row a boat all the way across the world then that's pretty much your only
option.
So you can do what you want here though there's not much to be done.
When you want to move on, talk to the man in green (somewhere in
the northern area of the village). He tells you a man - the inventor
of the "gasmask" - was travelling in the vicinity of Garnet Castle
and hasn't returned, so he wants you to go find him, and asks if
you'll agree to help. Answer 'Yes' to this question.
You should have a castle available now, but unfortunately, it isn't
a friendly one...

-----------------------------------------------------------------
GARNET CASTLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

According to the priest in Port Marin, Garnet Castle was built on
the remains of the Vampire Palace, where one of the Fifteen Demons -
aptly named "Vampire" - made his home before he was sealed.
Enough backstory, let's do this. When you get in, take the stairs in
the bottom-left corner. Then, go up the hallway and turn right. Go up to
the upper-right corner and take the stairs there. Go down the hall, turn
right and go into the upper-middle room. Up those stairs, there is a boss
battle.

O-----------------------------------O
 GARNET CASTLE BOSS : GATEKEEPER
O-----------------------------------O

He's got no name, other than "Gatekeeper". He says if you want
to get to Vampire in the Vampire Palace, you'll have to go through
him first.
But this guy is really easy. When he has the red things on his head, you
can't hit his eye from the sides (they are his weakspot, only place
you can hit him) just keep shooting his eye and when he throws the
red things just don't get hit by them. When he's dead, get your gem
and leave.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
VAMPIRE PALACE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

In here, the generators are the mirrors so destroy the ones
that aren't broken. In the first room, don't bother going up
into either of the top rooms, just head up the stairs. When you
go up the stairs watch out for the spikes and go up the little
hallway, and get out of the hallway on an upper-left angle so
the fire doesn't hit you. Go through, remember, watch for the
fire and the weird spike pattern in the second hallway, then go
up the stairs. Don't bother going up into the top room unless
you need a heart. Get ready for a boss battle in the next room.

O-----------------------------------O
VAMPIRE CASTLE BOSS: VAMPIRE
O-----------------------------------O

Vampire starts off by laughing at your intentions to defeat him again.
He says "the Higher Father" just freed them (this would be the Dark God,
obviously). He says if you want to meet him so badly, you can: in the
Netherworld. High-larious.
If you were interested, this guy was a boss in Dungeon Explorer II.
I probably won't be able to devise a very good strategy, but I'll do my best.
You can't hit him while he is spinning; only when he is either letting
out bats or walking. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GO NEAR THE GODDAMN PIANO. He
will be able to trap you and you'll just die behind there. After you've
hit him enough, he will transform into a bat. You can hit him any
time at this stage; when he dies, grab your gem and get out of there.
Also, I present to you an alternate strategy provided by Cube:
He says that you can take a character with high HP (he used the Dragon),
giving him a lot of attack and at least three stamina. When you reach the
Vampire you should let him trap you in the corner. Then, you should hold down
Y. Obviously he'll take a lot of health from you, and he says that you should
have a lot of White Potions handy, just in case. He also states it works for
both forms. I have personally never tried this but I have reviewed it
and it does seem like it would work well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
GARNET CASTLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Return to the castle after Vampire is dead, then go to the upper-middle room
and go down the left set of stairs. On the left cell, there will
be an array of items and a Magic Seed, and on the right, a guy
for you to release. This is the inventor of the gasmask the guy
in green told you about back in Port Marin; if you recall, that's the original
reason you were sent to Garnet Castle.
He's grateful you freed him, and is willing to part with his gas mask
so you can continue on. Lovely. Let's do so, shall we?

-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE THOUSAND MARSHES
-----------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: Before you go here, make sure to release the imprisoned guy
from Garnet Castle. If you don't, the Forest of Shadows is poisoned
and you die very quickly. Not that it isn't a blast.
If there is one thing I hate about the Thousand Marshes,
it's the fact that it has undestroyable Purple Flame generators.
But this place is pretty easy to go through; very short. My only
recommendation would be to move quickly. At the end, prepare for
a boss battle.

O-----------------------------------O
THOUSAND MARSHES BOSS 1: TADA
O-----------------------------------O

Not much to be said. He tells you he showed up after the poison
gasses rolled in, and his name is Tada. He says you showing up
to oppose the "way of the Demons" pleases him.
I suppose he's decently tough, just because of the falling rocks.
Just keep hitting him, and use whites when neccesary. You know the
routine once he's dead.

O-----------------------------------O
THOUSAND MARSHES BOSS 2 : ROCKY
O-----------------------------------O

He says that with the power of the Miracle Gem, and the teachings
of Barbas, he's grown powerful, etc.
Just keep moving when the green orbs stop moving and keep hitting the little
blue orb between his torso and the spinning spike.
Back in the Marshes, there's only one thing I want you to know: those
little blue elephant guys can drop some pretty good power-ups, so if
you want some, find them here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
JILCO ROAD
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Don't let the name fool you. It's a town. Not a road.
In this town, talk to the man in green walking around the beach in
about the lower-left corner. The man says nothing interesting; he mentions
your next opponent, Daimon. Then you will have the next area to go to.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
COAST OF RAPID CURRENTS
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Yes. Well, the name was actually quite a bit longer, but it would have
sounded stupid to call it "The Coastal Lowering Road of Rapid Currents
Region".
When you get in, just head down the hall with the rock-spitting rams.
In the next room, push the rock on the bottom across the hall - it will
go slow due to the current but it is better than the route with the rams.
Go up through the corrider with the wind current - it may be a good idea
to destroy the ram heads. In the next room choose the stairs that go up
first; it has a large heart and a magic seed. When you are ready for a boss
battle, go into the down stairs.

O-------------------------------------------O
COAST OF RAPID CURRENTS BOSS : BRAKEPONSHON
O-------------------------------------------O

May not be his name. I inferred it from elsewhere. Again, if
this is not his name, he doesn't have one.
He doesn't have much to say that's really relevant. He taunts
you like everybody else in a generic fashion. Oh well.
Not too hard. Just keep the fire coming to block his shooting
eyes and when his tongue comes out, you should shoot it - but
remember to concentrate your fire on its main eye. Keep it up
and it will die. Now just get out of there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
OPAL TOWN
-----------------------------------------------------------------

How wonderful...in preperation for your visit, look at the items
they've laid out! Ooooh...magic seed. Anyways, when you're
ready for the SECOND LAST level, go talk to the man in green with
spiky hair by the well. This man, as usual, has no real insight for
you. But then, what do you expect? Now the next area should be open,
but before you leave, talk to the man in the upper-right house. This
guy's holding out on a gem fragment. He speaks with you briefly about
your defeat of Brakeponshon and gives it to you, so there's another
level. Now, head back to the world map.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
DAIMON TEMPLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Excited? It's the second last level! Go in and make sure that
you step on the platform to go over the spikes. When you get
to the three platforms, choose either the left or middle one
(the right one doesn't go the full length) When you get to
the circle, go to the bottom and go down. When you get to the
three platforms with the tentacles on the side, take the middle
one both times. (despite the fact the middle one doesn't go the
whole length on the second one) then get ready for a boss battle.

O-------------------------------------------O
DAIMON TEMPLE BOSS : UNDINE
O-------------------------------------------O

He's surprisingly boring for an enormous crab. I guess personality's
not really a requisite here.
In all honesty, he's pretty easy. Just shoot him when his pincers
are open. Otherwise, stay at the bottom, out of his way. Soon he'll
be dead. Grab your gem and leave.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
DAIMON PALACE PART TWO
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Well, what did you expect? The second last level can't be THAT short.
choose the middle path, and go in a zig-zag pattern between the flames.
Then turn right and go up into the teleporter. Follow the path and
go up into the room with all the blocks. Go up and into the teleporter.
Go right, then up, then down the first available hall. Go down the place
with the two flames (wait until they are gone then make a run for it) then
go into the teleporter. Go up in this room and prepare for a boss battle.

O-------------------------------------------O
DAIMON PALACE BOSS TWO : GILL
O-------------------------------------------O

I guess he's like a protector of the Dark God. I kinda want to play as him.
Unfortunately, it's impossible.
As usual, don't let him touch you and repeatedly turn around to shoot
him. Keep it up and be patient; he has a lot of stamina. When he's dead,
grab your gem.

O-------------------------------------------O
DAIMON PALACE BOSS THREE : DAIMON
O-------------------------------------------O

Well. So much for your victory. Gill was just the icing on this grotesque
cake.
I don't really know what to say. He's tough - that's for sure.
Just aim at that blue crystal on his forehead,
watch out for the blue blobs and his hands. You can destroy
his hands or not; it's up to you, but if you do, he moves faster and
later regenerates them anyway. Eventually he dies, so grab your gem
and you're on your way to the last level.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
BRADSTONE CASTLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

With all the gem fragments you collected from the Fifteen Demons (weren't there
like, twenty of them? At least. You ended up with sixteen fragments, apparently,
but there were more than that) spread around the world, the Crystal Bean
is given the power to  sprout, and creates what could be called, I guess,
a crystal beanstalk. Watch the little  cutscene thing, and the Crystal
Bean creates a passage to the last level, called Bradstone Castle. SO
FRIGHTENING. Go on and when you get to the exploding jellyfish thingies,
try to avoid their line of fire. When you get to the teleporters just
keep walking forward then go into the small one. In this room, prepare
for a boss battle.

O-------------------------------------------O
BRADSTONE CASTLE BOSS : GANDAR
O-------------------------------------------O

Gandar's pretty impressed you beat the Fifteen Demons, but he's also not
a very interesting character.
He's also not too hard; just constantly shoot at him and eventually
his legs will disappear. He can be annoying; try to stay on an
angle and don't let him touch you. He'll die, grab your final gem
you will ever get and get out of there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
BRADSTONE CASTLE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wait until the right leg moves and makes the teleporter;
then run into the teleporter;and that's it.

O---------------------------------------------O
BRADSTONE CASTLE BOSS TWO : DARK GOD FORM ONE
O---------------------------------------------O

He's got nothing to say to you. Really. After all this, after every
boss has had some kind of speech to give you, no matter how insignificant,
the Dark God himself just jumps right into the ass-kicking.
Just stay on an angle from him (recommended, on the
right) and lob attacks on his forehead. Eventually, he will die, but
not in the sense that he is gone...

O-----------------------------------------------O
BRADSTONE CASTLE BOSS THREE : DARK GOD FORM TWO
O-----------------------------------------------O

Brrr....I hate this boss even more than the vampire. The things he
shoots are almost unavoidable, as is his yellow bubbly-thing. Just try
to stay alive and just do the same strategy as in his first form.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
THE END
-----------------------------------------------------------------

When I get around to translating this completely, I'll put up a transcript.
In summary, you beat all the fifteen demons, you cut down the Dark God. The
four godesses are very pleased with your work. And they should be. The
Dark God was annoying to fight. Really.

As you fall back to Grandol, light is restored to the land and all is well
again. So, King Rulvesos congratulates you and there's a party in your honor.

The heroes - all of them, even if you didn't unlock them all - march out of
Grandol and the credits roll.

VII. OBLIGATORY FAQ
...................

Q. Why are there two identical FAQs here under basically the same name?

A. I wrote both of them. They are both mine. This one is an update of
the other one; I can no longer access that account.

Q. How do I get (x) secret character?

A. See the secret characters section.

Q. Why don't you translate the whole game?

A. I tried. I can't seem to change the in-game text. If some ROM hacker
with experience there could help me, drop me a line.

Q. Why bother updating it?

A. Accuracy of information is crucial to me.

Q. Can you put up descriptions of the black/white abilities of each character?

A. No; they're all basically the same.

Q. Can I use this FAQ for (whatever reason)?

A. Ask me first.

Not many credits, just

LOST IN GENERAL ([email protected])
I wrote this thing. But I also played the game through
and I needed help to beat it and discover all the secrets.

SUPERFLASH
He helped me beat the game and find all the secret characters.
I don't know.

CUBE
He informed me of the alternate Vampire Strategy. He also told
me about an error (see the Shadow Forests) in which what I thought
was only an extra thing was actually necessary to progress.

X. Version History
...................

Version 0.1 - May, 2003
Birth of this FAQ/Walkthrough. Everything in here from start to
finish was built.

Version 0.2 - October, 2003
Not much of an update. An alternate vampire strategy, added this
history, and fixed an error.

Version 1.0 - May, 2008
Five years later I added the translations and fixed up meandering
garbage I wrote before. It's all better now. Stop e-mailing me at
my old e-mail, please.

================================================================

XI. FAREWELL
...................

Yeah. Well, that's that. It's done. I guess technically it took five years
to finish it in its entirety. And you know what? I'm satisfied with
it now. The translation is genuine, and people will not only go through
the game, they will understand it as well. And there's something vaguely
refreshing about that.

I may come back to add a more complete translation; I kind of got lazy at the
end and rushed it, plus I lost my translating partner. So maybe later
this year I'll come back and add more detailed information on everything,
even trivial things. Eventually.

I've got some other guides in the works that I've left unfinished, so keep
an eye out if you're some kind of weird fan of my work. Until then.
