A Word Before We Get Down To The Real Talk:

Some people might wonder; "Has this or that character been in that or this
game?" Here, you can find your answers about Art of Fighting series'
characerts. I took the idea from Sean Goh (Psyke) and Orochi K (Kartel Kertra)
and tried to expand it to make everything clear and better.
Since I like the Art of Fighting series so much and it seems that nobody in
the site is giving a little time for it, I happily volunteered to do the work.
Why not? Most of my favorite characters are in the Art of Fighting series!
Anyway, I will mention almost everything, and about the "endings", I will
only mention when the character appears in an ending other than his or her
original ending... So, I will not put the oroginal ending, because most of you
know them.
Please note that when I say any game of the Card Clash series, only the
characters appear as cards, not themselves! So, do not think the characters
themselves appear in it. And if you have anything to add or any simple idea...
please share it with me as I willingly want to do many things.

"Nothing makes you smile than the sound of his old taunt, ORA ORA."
Ryo is the kind of character that you either like or hate. I know a lot of
people at the arcades that like Ryo and can hardly find anyone that actually
hates the character at heart. That being said, in the "net," there are actually
many people hate him for several reasons.
Ryo Sakazaki is the "only hero" that I actually use/like pretty much. He has
different appearances (as in looks) like in Wild Ambition, K.O.F., A.O.F. &
Buriki and his BGM in Art of Fighting 2 is one of the best BGMs in fighting
games history, in my opinion.

"The heartbeat of the Art of Fighting series."
People misunderstand Robert's place in the Art of Fighting series
sometimes. SNK gave Robert the spotlight in Art of Fighting 3 and that alone is
more than enough to say that both of the heroes are equal and nobody is being
forgotten (in the A.O.F. series at least).
While Robert did not get the BIG change in the second game, he was more than
great in the third game. He is the most stylish character with no questions
asked.

"The old man sentence doesn't apply to three men. Takuma is one of them."
Takuma was the only character that surprised me with the Tengu mask. Other
characters (outside SNK games I mean) that used the Tengu mask or Tengu itself
(D.O.A.2 boss) were not as cool as he was in the first game.
Then the Tengu mask became a joke to fool around in the K.O.F. series,
unfortunately. If you ever want to play against a serious and powerful
character in a Tengu mask, then Art of Fighting 1 is always there for you to
have fun with Mr. Karate.

The above sentence is only for the A.O.F. version (not K.O.F.). Past A.O.F.
games, SNK/Korean company (which I am happy to forget its name) started to
screw her bit by bit without noticing. Was it for the sake of change or not...
is beyond me!
Yuri is only second to her brother in appearing in many games.

"A fly, Geese remarks."
This character is the only fighter who appeared in many backgrounds. Nobody
comes close to him (well, Eiji is catching up, I guess). ^_^
Capcom made a big surprise when they chose him to be in Capcom Vs. SNK 2,
which was a bad choice to many SNK fanboys.
Actually, this character was the only one who did not make the cut in the
second game. He was a bit funny in the anime, though!

"A rose without thorns."
This rose gets loved by many easily. She is good in many ways. She had a big
jump in the second game which made her more good in many ways. It was really
hard to find a decent King user back in the old days.
The only thing that seems to be funny is her fans. Most of them claim that
they liked her since the first game, while any old timer can easily notice
they did not (they don't know anything). Most of the time they search for
the ROMs to access the game and get a little from here and there and then;
"HEY, I AM KING NO.1 FAN SINCE AOF1!"
There is no shame in liking a character too late. Who cares! ^_^

Jack is another character who got what he deserved in the second game. He was
a tank. He was so fat... but also so fast. In the hands of experts, he was
deadly. And playing against him back then was really fun.
This is one of the characters that you do not need others' opinions to
like/know him. You just have to use him yourself to like or dislike him.

Lee is the only underrated character in the series. The monkey guy was a
laughing stock for everyone. He was improved in the second game, but his first
appearance remains the best.
Cannot comment much here. Monkey, couldn't you cure anything other than
hemorrhoids?! Really!! ^_^

Mickey's taunt in the second game was the funniest. For all the good players,
they know well that this character can fool you by his looks... but when you go
against him, you are dead.
Mickey was a top tier in the second game with his infinite and filthy/cheap
strategies (Geese is excluded). ^_^ But he sure was one hell of a "fun to use"
character. This character is not getting what he deserves, just like Heavy D!

I still do not understand why my friends laugh whenever they see that quote
pops up!!!
Give his picture to anyone that never played the game and he will surely say;
"A Guile wannabe?" And that is just wrong. He plays way differently. After
the first game, he jumped far away from him in many ways, too.
John was one of the most played characters in the second game. He was like
Yagami. You see him everyday, but he was well-balanced, unlike Yagami.
John has one of the coolest Hidden Supers in the game. Eventhough his Hidden
Super Move, Atomic Smash, was blockable, the block damage (chip damage) and
effectiveness were more than useful to him. He did not get a chance after the
second game, unfortunately.

"The first character in fighting games that couldn't jump."
Yes, Big cannot jump in the first game. Nobody knows if it is because of the
lazy programming, or because Big was too cool for that which I seriously doubt.
^_^
Aside of Ryo, Robert, Geese, Yuri, King, Kasumi and Takuma, Mr. Big
was/is/will always be a welcome character to any game. Not because he is a pimp
(crap), but because he is stylish and his fighting style is unique.
Although he seems to always be behind Geese (A.O.F. 2 & K.O.F'96), he still
can handle himself pretty well. They improved him a lot in K.O.F'96 with the
frames and animations and not to mention the ways to use him.
I think he will be welcomed the most by the old timers or those who played
K.O.F'96 well from the day it got released. Big, Geese and Krauser together are
just too classic. Having them again isn't a bad idea. Even if two of the three.

This character is like Jack when using him, but as for his personality...
there is nothing much to say. Back then, if you turtle or block a lot against
Temjin, you are just asking for a painful throw. Temjin has many and he can
throw a punch to force you to defend it and then connect it with any throw
(glitch). In one word, painful.
I do not look at his background when I use him, I only use him to have fun.

Eiji is having a hard time appearing in the backgrounds just like Todoh.
He had his chance in K.O.F'95 and then he is gone for good. Seriously, there
is nothing wrong with him and I find him cool and fun to use in A.O.F. 2 and
K.O.F'95! Still, why he is always left behind is beyond me.
Edit:
SNK Playmore breaks the bonds and lets Eiji fans have fun again using him in
KOF XI. Finally! Now keep on improving him to make him as cool as Hanzo... or
even cooler. Eiji has the right tools to be cool!

"After finding Robert, I am out."
That is his problem. His existance is meaningless. That goes to most of the
third game's cast as well. Cole is the guy who replaced Temjin and Jack.
The difference is that he cannot connect a throw after a defended punch or
kick like Jack and Temjin used to do.
I used him for a long time, but I still find Temjin and Jack better than him.

Kasumi was loved by SNK. She was improved in some K.O.F. games, but her
animation/frames were not as good as in A.O.F. 3!
Anyway, she seems to be the only one from the new characters (in A.O.F. 3)
who made the cut in different SNK games. A nice choice I must say.

Roddy was forgotten just like the rest of the cast. His fighting style is
okay overall, but his personality is weak. I liked his outfit personally.
Nobody bothered to use him back then. It was all about Ryo/Robert/Jin/Kasumi.

Now this character is a bit strange. She is good in many ways, I do not
understand why they left her behind. Was Whip that good?!
Lenny has what you need when you fight Ryo or Robert. She is cheap like hell.
She can be used perfectly in the hands of experts.
You would be really surprised by how effective she is when you watch a match
between two experts. But well, most of the guys here (net) know nothing about
the game. And many did not like the game, because it was too slow for them.

That is what he was called back then. So funny. ^_^
Although I find Eiji way cooler than him, this guy is just great when you
use him. He is the right choice for mind games.
Many people liked to use him back then. Some were good and some were bad. I
understand why he did not appear in any other game, but I find him an okay
character overall.

You will be surprised, but aside of Ryo, this character was my favorite. I
used her all the time. I like her fighting style very much because it is tricky.
I really do not care why she was left behind, but I must say that this
character is fun to use. Her 100% combo was stylish and HARD to do.

Ahem. No matter how you look at it, this boss is retarded compared to Geese,
Mr. Karate and Mr. Big. I was so disappointed when I saw him first, but this
is coming from someone who actually put a lot of time into the A.O.F. series.
I would not be so if I did not play the two first games.
He would have been cool if he was fighting without the drug. The drug itself
made him look limited. Without it, he is nothing. As it clearly appears in
his ending.
Anyway, even himself as a character is boring since he is overpowered. You
cannot throw him and his combos are EASY and DEADLY at the same time.
Actually his whole game is not that complicated as say... Robert. You just
need to focus on your distance and opponent's movement.
Any way, he is okay, but not that great!

I still know some guys that "hate" the old Geese appearance and "love" the
young one. Funny. You should of have seen their faces when they saw him in
K.O.F.: Neowave. Those are the guys that do not care about the personality, but
the in-game character himself. My most respect to them, really...
Anyway, I was more than happy to see my all time favorite character in
another game. Nice to see the Deadly Rave, too. His BGM (Geese Ni Katakori)
is the third best remix of his original BGM (Fatal Fury Special on Neo Geo
CD being first then K.O.F'96 on Neo Geo being second)
I will not talk too much to not sound like a fanboy. Anyway, Geese was a
welcome character in the series.

Funny how people bash on the series and complain; "A skillful player does
not play the AOF series for it is only for scrubs and kids!" They do not know
that back in the old days, Many EXPERTS played AOF 2, not because the game was
good or bad... but because people back then just had the "I want to play for
fun and competing with my friends" in them.
If experts should only play the serious games, then for sure I do not want to
be part of it. Sometimes you have to relax and try the fun games and have a lot
of fun against your friends. The best way is to play what you can and have fun.
