Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the SMS game known as
The Ottifants. This is a decent platformer game, in which your main goal is to
collect the business papers of your father ... but you'll meet many trials on
the way.

..

That's all I have to say on this game. Enjoy.

--------
Controls
--------

The controls are the default ones. They can be changed in the Options menu.

- D-Pad: Move around (Left/Right); duck (Down); ground-pound (Down in mid-air)

- 1 Button: Jump.

- 2 Button: Projectile attack. You can also hold to pick up some items, and
press again to drop. The projectile attack can be used in
conjunction with Up/Down to make it slightly higher or lower.

- Pause/Start: Pause and unpause game.

--------
Settings
--------

As you begin the game, you will receive a few different options for which
language to play in. Choose one quickly, as the game will soon advance by
itself, using whatever langauge you're hovering over (Deutsch/Dutch is the
default). Language will not affect anything except level names and other
text, which is rare - it won't interfere with the gameplay.

- Deutsch : Dutch
- English : English
- Français: French
- Italiano: Italian
- Español : Spanish

At the main menu, then, you'll have three more options: "Start" (begin a new
game), "Password" (restart a game via a password), and "Options". We'll cover
the options here:

- Lives: How many lives you begin with. You can start with 3, 5, 7, or 9.
- Tune : Just a sound test deal to listen to one of nine tracks.
- SFX  : Just a sound test deal to listen to one of sixteen sound effects.
- Joypad: Is the "1" or "2" button you're jumping button? ("1" by default.)
- Level : The game's difficulty. Can be training, easy, normal, or hard.
- Sound : Do you want to play music, sound effects, both, or neither?

-------------------
Level 1 - The House
-------------------

~ Password: [None] ~

Go off the ledge you're on and defeat the nearby enemy. Go right and up the
incline to find a bubble enemy past the popsicles (pick those up). Defeat said
enemy and go left to pick up the yellowish items. Go back uphill and to the
right, over the ledge. Beware the circling spiky enemy, though.

On the ground, go right to find a springboard. Use it properly to reach the
upper level. There, you'll notice you are on four colored hemispheres. Go to
the right and onto the next set - the bridge between them will crack and kill
you. It may interest you to get the nearby yellow things while you're at it.

On the other side, go downhill. Defeat the nearby enemy and go up the ledges
here. You'll collect a few more yellow things and popsicles, and fight a few
enemies, on the way. At the top, go right and along the path, past more
enemies and pickups.

You'll soon reach a dip in the path where an enemy is. Past it is an object
that lets you proceed, so touch it.

There are some ledges here. Go right to the double-block ledge and defeat the
enemy on it. Go along the linear ledge path to the right or left - it won't
matter - to reach a springboard and a popsicle. (You'll also find yellow
pickups along both paths.)

Use the springboard to go up and left. Ascend the ledges here and dodge or
defeat the enemies as you go. Once you cannot go up any further, head across
the ledges and right to the springboard. Collect the nearby yellow thing,
then use the springboard to hit the teleporter for the next area.

Hit the ground and defeat the nearby enemy, then head right. Jump across the
staircase-like ledges, collecting yellow pickups on the way. At the top, defeat
the enemy past the pillar and continue into the next portion of the area.

Defeat the enemy on the ground and the plane on the upper ledge here, then go
around and collect the yellow pickups. In the lower-left corner is a useful
checkpoint. Touch it and ride the nearby platform to the higher ledge and go
right.

Here, you'll find a vertical passage of two columns of ledges. Go along to the
lower-left ledge to find another pickup, then ascend to the top-right ledge.
Jump and attack the nearby enemy, then, from the top-right ledge, jump to the
right while holding the jump button. You should reach the ledge there.

Hit the ground and head right. Defeat the enemy, grab the popsicle, and start
climbing those ledges. At the top ledge, you'll find another springboard. There
is no particular need to use it unless you want to try and grab the yellow
pickup, but beware the enemy circling it.

You'll find a set of ledges here. Feel free to explore them and look around
for the various pickups and enemies. Afterwards, at ground level, head right
and uphill. Take note of the nearby yellow things on some of the nearby ledges.
At the top, grab the obligatory paper and go right. Be VERY careful of the
spike pits here and the airplane. Quickly defeat the aforementioned plane and
continue right, into the teleporter.

This will take you to the level boss. It's rather simple. Just jump onto the
mid-air ledges and vacuum up (hold "2") the block. Stay up here and, when the
boss is about to pass below, press "2" again to drop the block on its head.
You can also take the rather suicidal route of going right to the boss and
releasing the brick when you're "within" it. Either way, repeat as needed and
you'll continue to the next level when you win.

----------------------
Level 2 - The Basement
----------------------

~ Password: JYSF ~

Collect the nearby pickups, then hit the ground to the left. You should see
some kind of raised blue switch beneath the platform to the left. Ground-pound
it (jump above it and press Down on the D-Pad) to make a platform appear. Get
on it.

DO NOT MOVE WHILE THE PLATFORM IS IN MOTION. Unless you're suicidal or
something like that.

When you land, head right. You'll soon reach a springboard. Use it to reach the
platform that is moving vertically above it, then ride said platform into the
next room where you'll find a number of pickups. Return, now, to the
springboard and head right. Beware the droppings of the pipes as you progress
to the checkpoint.

Continue right until you can no more - you should be near a switch. For now,
let the switch be. Ascend onto the nearby platforms and kill the two enemies,
then take the nearby pickups. Return to the switch and ground-pound it to open
up a path at the lowest part of this room.

Use it and quickly dodge out of the way of the nearby enemy before slaying it.
Go right and pick up the pickups, then head left. Past the leaky pipe, you'll
find a spike pit too wide to cross.

However, hold down the 2 Button to vacuum and attract the nearby platform. Hold
down the button still as you continue onto the platform, then let go when you
get back on to be able to progress to the other side.

Go left and defeat the enemy, and also grab the nearby papers. Continue up the
ledges, grabbing nearby pickups and defeating nearby enemies on the way. From
the top-left ledge, head left. Hey, isn't that a teleportation device that we
oughta use?

On the other side, carefully, carefully cross the spike pits. The game has an
odd tendency to forget inertia here, so don't let go too early. It seems that
lower-power jumps (i.e. quick taps) work better. At the other side, you'll find
a springboard. Jump around on it as usual and, generally around the third or
fourth jump, also hold Left on the D-Pad. While, yes, you may not make it to
the next springboard, continue holding, lest you hit some dangerous spikes!

When you reach the next springboard, use it to go up and left to the ledge.
Explore the six ledges nearby for a scant few pickups and a few enemies. The
top-central ledge has a springboard, so use it. You'll find another set of
spike pits. As before, carefully cross, preferably with low-power jumps.

Head right and uphill, then use the springboard here to head up and left.
Defeat the nearby enemy and continue left to the checkpoint. Jump onto the
blue pipe in the background and cross to the next one, grabbing the yellow
pickup on the way. Repeat this and also grab the paper as you hit the moving
platform.

Ride this platform to the next one, then quickly cross it to the next ledge to
the right - this second platform rams into some spikes, so be QUICK. Go right,
past the spike pits. Defeat the enemy and continue further to the teleporter.

In this third area, go right to the hill, defeating some enemies on the way.
At the top, you'll notice a switch. Ignore it for now and go downhill some.
Defeat the enemy you soon see, then reascend the hill, trigger the switch, and
ride the mobile platform.

As you ride, be sure to jump or you'll end up hitting a spike pit as you land.
When you land safely, head left and defeat some enemies as you turn upward.
Trigger the switch here. Afterwards, return to where you landed from the moving
platform. Go right and you should be able to see two vertical red shafts with
blue platforms in them. You'll want to alternatingly step on them, causing each
to rise for some arbitrary reason, so you can reach the checkpoint.

Continue right. Remember that switch you triggered earlier? That removed a red
barrier below the brick that will soon break. Jump over the brick above the
shaft to avoid falling. Continue right and into the first gap to find a switch.
Use it to stop some of the leaky pipes to the right, then cross the ledges to
find a few useful pickups. Return to the flimsy brick and fall down the shaft.

Go right and downhill. This puzzle will be tricky, but it's doable. See that
block in the red shaft? Vacuum it up, jump as high as possible, as close to the
spikes as possible, and press "2" again to release it. This makes a small
stepping stone in the spike pit you can step on. It's not much, but try to jump
on it, then to the other side.

Continue right and uphill. As you continue right, you'll fight a few enemies
and take a few pickups. You'll soon reach some mid-air ledges. Feel free to
loot their treasures right now, but ignore the springboard for the moment.
Further right on ground level is a similar set of ledges. Loot them and defeat
their enemies, as before, then return to the springboard and use it.

Grab the paper as you arrive, as well as a few pickups further right. When you
can see the teleporter, you'll probably notice the gap in the floor. This gap
will lead to the second set of ledges from before, getting you two yellow
pickups on the way. Feel free to grab them, then through the teleporter ya go!

On the other side is the level boss, a fire serpent. This boss can be dealt
with similarly to the boss of the previous level - get near it, release the
vacuumed block, and repeat. Afterwards, you'll reach the next level.

---------------------------
Level 3 - The Building Site
---------------------------

~ Password: AOHT ~

This level has a stark amount of linearity to it. The first portion of the
level consists mostly of just going up ledges to the paper and teleporter.

The second portion is mostly just going right, as is the third area. There is
not a lot to say about this level, in all honesty. Unless you feel like
exploring needlessly and risking your life, you'll just want to head straight
for the exits. The paper to activate the teleporter is always near them, so
don't worry.

And as for the level boss? Same strategy as usual - vacuum the block found on
the central ledges and suicidally get close to the boss and release the block
until the boss is dead, letting you proceed.

--------------------
Level 4 - The Office
--------------------

~ Password: PIHE ~

The first area is still pretty linear - the game dropped off creativity at this
point. Head right, avoid spikes by jumping over them, and you should reach the
teleporter with little pain. Just beware the monitor enemies, which look like
ledges. The only other part worth mention is the big gap you soon reach, near
the end of the area. You'll need to first defeat the enemy there, then step on
the blue platform to make it rise some. BEFORE it gets all of the way up, jump
to the ledge on the right. Past the spike pit to the right of there is the
teleporter.

The second area is also fairly easy to self-navigate. You'll mostly be going up
ledges. It is preferable that you stay on the left side, which is less
proliferated with enemies. You will soon come across a large spike platform.
Coming from the left, jump across the ledges NOT in mid-air until you notice
that ledges are beginning to decrease in height, then get on the ledges above.

Use the ledges to go up-right, then up-left with the springboard to the
checkpoint. At the top, on the left is a switch that'll let you reach the
teleporter. Use it.

The third area begins fairly easily - just mostly hopping the ledges and going
to the right, defeating a few enemies and grabbing a few pickups on the way.
You will soon reach a staircase-like set of blocks interlaced with spike pits.
Ascend and beware the peak of the structure, which periodically will electrify,
hurting you if you are electrocuted.

Past that structure, you'll find a supposeable dead-end. Go through the gray
wall to the checkpoint. You will hop across three small spike pits to find a
gap and a purple block. DO NOT JUMP BASED ON INSTINCT. That will get you
killed - there is an enemy circling the block, and it'll knock you off into a
spike pit if you're not careful. Time your jumps carefully to reach the other
side, and also be careful about the electrocution device there.

Beyond that, it is just more hopping rightward across the ledges to the
teleporter. Be sure to grab the heart (1-Up) on the way!

The level boss, like the others, is simply handled by getting suicidally close
and releasing the block, repeating as necessary. NRCF

--------------------
Level 5 - The Jungle
--------------------

~ Password: NRCF ~

The first area is easy enough to navigate. When you arrive, ascend the nearby
ledges and, at the tree-pattern ledge, just go right. There is little else
worth mention above or below, so don't get yourself needlessly hurt by
exploring.

As you do progress along this rightbound path, you'll notice no way to go
forward at one point. But do you see that hook nearby? Jump on it and hold
Right on the D-Pad so you'll land properly to the checkpoint. Return to your
original course. You'll soon reach the teleporter.

The second area is still exceedingly linear beyond description - you'll mostly
just go up the ledges. Be sure to defeat any enemies you come across, and
beware the platforms that transform into enemies. You'll want to stay along the
left side most of the time for the better items, but be sure to delve to the
right when you see the checkpoint. The teleporter is in the top-left area.

In the third area, you'll want to progress right along the ground level for a
while - it is worth it, as you'll find a 1-Up soon enough. After that, head
left for a bit to some reachable tree ledges. Climb them and head to the right
as you did in the first area. You'll soon have to ride another hook - like in
the first area, hold Right on the D-Pad to land properly. Then head right to
the monster ledge, climb when possible, and go right from there to the
teleporter.

After that, you'll hit a mini-boss, I assume. It is dealt with similarly to
the other bosses - suicidally close, release block, repeat successfully three
times, etc.

Afterwards, though, you won't be in a new level, but a fifth area of Level 5.
Go to the right and you shall meet another boss. This boss will definitely be
harder than the rest, had it not been for one thing. Its main attack is to
summon enemies. Now, my strategy? Get on the middle of the platform, or a
slight bit to the right. Hold Up on the D-Pad and rapidly press your attack
button. This will repeatedly strike the boss's eyes, his weak point. You can
easily just sit there and do this and only be hit a single time!

That pretty much ends the game. There are two endings depending on whether you
actually collected all of the lost papers within the levels - there was one
per level "area" ("area" being the term for place with one teleporter). Either
way, the game ends.

Congratulations! You've beat The Ottifants!
