"You are about to inherit the family jewels. If you can get them that is.

They're hidden somewhere inside Count Dracula's Mansion. Which wouldn't be
such a big deal if Draculas, Bats, Fire Blowers, Mummies and other deadly
weirdos weren't hiding there too.

You'll Have to ward off or destroy everything that gets in your way - no matter
how grotesque it appears. Plus, you'll have to keep punching to find the secret
key that opens Count Dracula's coffin and capture the 5 precious stones. All
before you run out of power.

Ghoul luck - you're going to need it."-From the Ghost house manual

This is my first published FAQ, yay!
Special thanks go to Travis Fahs, both for his editing contributions to this
FAQ, and for introducing me to Ghost House and the Master System in general.
I should probably thank Sega, you know, for making the game.
If you would like to contact me regarding this FAQ feel free to do so. My
email address is [email protected], please incled the words Ghost House in
the email's subject so I can find it.
If you're reading this, you likely know about the game allready. Just in case,
Ghost House is a platformer that was released in 1986 for the Sega Master
System. It was one of the "Sega Card" games that was designed to go in the
card slot at the front of the system.

Kill all five Draculas, then find the magic door to beat the stage.

Gameplay
========
Time to Start:
You'll start each round at the top floor of the mansion. Your first
task is to fight monsters until you find a key. When you get the key
is random, so get punching.

Staying Alive:
You're not going to dodge every attack from every monster, so keep
your eyes peeled for those small yellow boxes with flashing question
marks. They're going to refill roughly one-fifth of your health.
There are plenty of them, so make sure you pick them up when you need
them, especially right before you start a fight with Dracula.

The Knife:
Before you go unlocking Dracula's coffin you may want to get yourself
a weapon. Throughout the mansion you will notice candelabras on the
walls. Jump at one to activate a flying knife trap. When the blade comes
flying, jump onto it, and you will get to use it. Now you can stab
monsters instead of punching them, an attack that generally kills
them twice as fast. You get to use the knife for the next five hits,
not attacks so don't sweat it if you miss. You'll also notice that
you have a lot more reach with the knife. Make sure you keep track of
how many knife strikes you've used. If you're power is high and you
have at least three attacks with the knife left it's time to go show
Dracula who's the boss.

The Coffins:
In every round there are five coffins. Awaiting in each is a Dracula,
one of which is the True Dracula. There is one on the top floor, two
on the middle floor, and two in the basement.

This house should be condemned:
There are a number of hazards that make the Ghost House a lovely
place to live.
Flying Arrow-Walking by a lamp, located on one of several
places, causes an arrow to fly across the screen at you. You
may duck under them, or jump on or over them. Instead of ducking all
those flying arrows, try jumping on them. If you land on top of the
arrow you will score points. As an added bonus every sixteenth arrow
you jump on will grant you temporary invincibility. This last for
about thirty seconds. Mick will flash to let you know that this
effect is working. During this time you can kill enemies (not Dracula)
by walking into them. This only works twice each life, but that
counter gets reset every round.

Flying Knives-Walking in front of one of the candelabras on the wall
will trigger this trap, which is nearly identical to the flying arrow
attacks. As noted above, jump on these to use the knife yourself.

Spider Webs-Across the ceiling you will sometimes see these.
They're more then just spooky decorations. If you jump into
one, you'll become stuck. To get free, wiggle the control pad
left and right quickly. Alternate left or right 5 times to come loose.
You also take more damage from other hazards and enemies while you are
stuck in a web.

Blazing Fire- Deep in the basement there's a big fire. You can
walk through it, but you will take damage while doing so. It's best
to jump over these areas.

Ceiling Lights- Look up. If you jump into the ceiling lights you can
freeze time for a few moments. The screen will flash and all the
enemies will stop moving, making this effect pretty easy to notice.
This can be done up to five times per round, and dying will not reset
the counter on this. You can kill enemies while they are frozen. You
can even kill Dracula, but he won't actually die until time resumes.
Listen for the sound effect of you hitting him.

Trap Holes: There are portions of the floor that you can fall through,
make it a point to remember where they are. They're always the same.

Gravity-If , for some reason, you fall from a height of more then two
platforms, you will take some damage.

The Bad Guys
============
The Ghost House is full of all sorts of monsters that want you dead.
Derobat: A fluttering little bat; the most common enemy. If you
have the room, duck under them. You could punch them, but I find
it easier to jump on their heads. Either way, one hit kills it.
If they run into you they'll die too, but you take damage.
A quick note, aside from the obvious loss of health, there's a trick
to telling whether you've killed a bat, or he died bumping into you. The
damage "spark" is red if you hit the bat, and it's yellow if he hit you.

Death: A blue ghost that walks back and forth. One punch or knife stab
and he's done. You can also jump on his head.

Fire Blower: A fat, red, creepy monster. He hops around wildly and
breathes fire on you. Try not to fight him with your fists or
knives. While he will die in four punches or two knife strikes,
you can kill him instantly if you jump on his head, or climb down a
ladder onto him. He is a very tough monster to fight head on, so only
do so if you're brave, or stupid.

The Mummy: A spooky mummy. This enemy can use ladders, too, so be
careful. He is tough, taking four punches or on stab with the knife to
kill. The mummy makes his first appearance in Round 2, and will be there
from then on. You can't jump over him or on his head from a level field
with him. If you jump from a floor up, or climb down a ladder, into his
head he will die in one hit.

Dracula: The big baddy himself. See the "Fighting Dracula" section.

Fighting Dracula
================
Found a key? Take the key to a casket, your pick, and walk by the keyhole
to let Dracula out.

He's going to fly around wildly in semi-circles in a bat form. Every
now and then he will land on a ledge and appear in his human form. You
need to hit him three times with your knife, or five with your fist
(this number increases on each round) to kill him.

Time your strike to connect right before he hits you when he's in bat
form, he'll still hit you, but you will get him too. Listen for the sound
effect the game makes when you hit Dracula, so that you know you were
successful. Don't bother going after him if he lands on a different floor
than you, he'll turn into a bat and start flying before you get to him.
However, if he lands near you, run over and let him have it. When he's
in human form Dracula moves pretty slowly, so he shouldn't be hard to
dodge. If you're quick you might get a few hits in. By the way, Dracula
is immune to your jump attack, so don't even bother trying to land
on his head, you'll only get yourself hurt. When he dies, Dracula turns
into a skeleton. Don't be too quick to dance on his corpse in celebration,
one Dracula per round (except in the first round) will come back to life
and fight again. This is the True Dracula. He's the same as the others,
you just have to kill him twice, and he's a bit faster the second time.
Make sure you do pick up the heart as quickly as possible, after a few
seconds any Dracula will come back to life if you don't collect the
heart. This happens slower then True Dracula rising, so make it a point
to learn the timing difference.
All of them will give you a treasure, and a heart that will fill your
health for beating him.

A few quick tips for Dracula fights
-Freeze time. Make sure Dracula will be somewhere you can get him.
You can hit him while he is frozen, listen for the noise. He won't
actually die until time resumes.
-Invincibility. Keep track of how many arrows you've landed on, and
time it so you can get your sixteenth during the fight.
-Calm down, slugger. Do not run up to his corpse until you see a heart appear,
then you know he is dead.
-Be careful. When Dracula hits you, he knocks you back a bit. This can cause
you to fall down ladders, and end the fight.
-Control the environment. Those other monsters aren't going away just to let
you fight there boss. Make sure you have an empty room before taking on the
big guy.
