*I - Intro*

Dragon Crystal © Sega 1991 - 2004
In dragon crystal you play the role as a lone man thrown into a world full of
monsters. And you have an Egg for company. This egg is the Dragon that the
title refers to, as it later Hatches And grows. You have many items available
in the game to aid you on your quest for the "Magic Goblet" Which will return
you to your own world. Each stage of the game is called a Floor, and there are
30 floors in total. Every monster you kill gives you a certain amount of
experience points that help to build your player level. To advance through each
level you must find and use a warp tile (Star panel).
***************
*II - Controls*
***************
<Standard Sega Master System Controls>
A Button - Brings up/Closes inventory
B Button - Pick up items/Use items/Move Time
D-Pad - Move/Attack
Move Time - This means you stand still but the monsters around will continue to
move, this does have its advantages.
To attack an enemy you must be stood directly next to them and facing them,
push the D-Pad in the direction of the enemy to attack.
*******************
*III Starter Hints*
*******************
A) In the first 10 stages, try to use items frequently, This way when you pick
the same type of item up again you'll know what it is.
B) Do not throw away items unless you need to. E.g. At an enemy/If there's an
item on the ground
C) Try to have at least 3 Bless Scrolls at any time
D) Pick up all gold you see
E) If you have a food ring, Keep it on!
F) Explore Levels Thoroughly before moving on
G) Conserve your Food, Food is what keeps your Health regaining when you walk.
If you run out of food then you won't regain health with walking. Also do not
pick up food if your food reaches around 85/90 because you will NOT get the
full use from it. There are Three Rings that affect your food stock:
Food Ring - This makes your food last roughly thrice as long as normal
Hunger Ring - This roughly halves the time your food lasts
Cursed Ring - This stops you regaining health as you walk, basically making
food useless

*IV - Lists*
************
<A> Swords
As you progress through the game you will pick up lots of weapons with various
effects and strengths. Here is an easy to read list of these weapons.
Name: Dagger
Quality: 1/20
Power: 3
Description: This is the weapon you start with, And it isn't really a good
weapon. It's only really any good on Floor one, and even then it's pathetic.
Name: Short Sword
Quality: 1.5/20
Power: 14
Description: First proper Sword you get, And its pretty decent for use in the
first 5 or maybe 6 levels, but there are better Swords out there.
Name: Long Sword
Quality: 3/20
Power: 18
Description: Tiny bit better than the Short Sword, and is good for upto floor
8/9. These can be found on floor 1 with luck!!
Name: Broad Sword
Quality: 4/20
Power: 24
Description: Better than the Long Sword with the exception that this CANNOT
kill Ooze enemies. You get the "My sword doesn't cut!!" Message instead.
Name: Great Sword
Quality: 5.5/20
Power:
Description: This Sword is a better Sword than the Broad sword, plus it cuts
oozes! Yay!
Name: Magi Masher
Quality: 5/20
Power: 21
Description: This sword is specificly for fighting the Witch enemies, as it has
a wonderful habit for killing them very very fast.
Name: Bushido Blade
Quality: 6.5/20
Power: 33
Description: This sword is usually found from about floor 12 onwards for a few
floors. There are a few claims that it is effective against the Myst enemies,
although i usually don't fight them so i can't Verify that one.
Name: Blood Blade
Quality: 8/20
Power: 32
Description: Very useful sword for a good while, It has a decent base power and
an added Effect. This sword heals you a little amount of HP for every attack
you hit on an enemy.
Name: Ghost Killer
Quality: 9/20
Power: 37
Description: Useful against the Phantom type of enemy, As it kills them
efficiently as does the magi masher on witches.
Name: Death Blade
Quality: 10/20
Power: Varied throughout floors
Description: This is the clichéd double edged sword. It inflicts a rediculous
amount of damage every time you attack, but it also hurts you when you do use
it.
Name: Flamberge
Quality: 11/20
Power: 43
Description: This sword MAY be useful agianst root type enemies, although i
havne't properly tested this theory.
Name: Gladius
Quality: 10.5/20
Power: 42
Description: Standard sword with no effects apparent. Decent for up until
around floor 24/25
Name: Rune Blade
Quality: 13/20
Power: 55
Description: I think this probably DOES have an effect to it, as every "Blade"
sword does seem to, although i haven't found out what this one does YET.
Name: Dragonslayer
Quality: 15/20
Power: 60
Description: Guess what this does...Yup, it kills Dragons. Although the dragon
will most probably kill you first, it IS better for fighting them.
Name: Laser Blade
Quality: 17/20
Power: 67
Description: Strongest Sword you're gonna get, if you have one, keep hold of it
as long as you can. Useful for every floor till the end.
Name: Marmasmaduke
Quality: Unknown
Power: Unknown
Description: This rumoured sword which i only ever found once, long time ago,
apparently doesn't work when you use it. The apparent way to rectify this is to
use a Gas Scroll. *I think it's a gas scroll. It's the one that says "My Weapon
Became"*
B - Armors
Name: Robe
Quality: 0.5/20
Armor Class: 0
Description: The base armor of the game, i gave it a 0.5 since it's better than
a Birthday suit. =P

Quality: 1/20
Armor Class: 2
Description: Sounds like a biker suit huh? This isn't much better than the robe
and can be found from floor 1.

Quality: 3/20
Armor Class: 5
Description: slightly better than the leathersuit, but still no great shakes.
Floor 1 and up.
Name: Cuirass
Quality: 5/20

looks like armor. Pretty decent for a few levels till about 8. Found from as
low as floor 2.
Name: Chain Mail
Quality: 6.5/20
Armor Class: 14
Description: Advanced version of the Cuirass, useful until you get a proper
armor.
Name: Mystic Suit

Description: Looks like proper full on armor! Yay! Standard armor that'll hold
well for a while.
Name: Scale Armor
Quality: 10/20
Armor Class: 21
Description: Looks like a piece of tin foil again! Huzzah! Slightly tougher
than the Mystic Suit, Sehr Spangly.
Name: Plate Armor
Quality: 13/20
Armor Class: 30
Description: Looks like proper Armor once again, this is getting nutty =P
Name: Battle Suit
Quality: 16/20
Armor Class: 38
Description: Nice sturdy armor that'll give you protection from just about
anything except for Blue Orbs and Dragons.
Name: Dragon Suit
Quality: 18/20
Armor Class: 44
Description: It would appear to reduce the effect of the nasty evil dragons in
the last few levels, also will sustain attacks from most other enemies.
Name: Laser Suit
Quality: 19/20
Armor Class: 50
Description: The Strongest armor in the game, and unfortunately i've only ever
found it once on the very final floor.

G - Player Levels
You, as the player go through a series of levels that are increased after
killing a certain number of monsters, This number is higher for each level.
Each level gains HP and AC/Power by a small amount. The following are the
levels and any other notes:
1: Apprentice
2: Ranger
3: Soldier
4: Warrior - The egg that follows you hatches into a small dragon
5: Fighter
6: Swordsman
7: Veteran
8: Knight - Dragon triples in size, consumes your food quicker
9: Champion
10: Hero
11: Master
12: Paradin - Probably meant to say Paladin. Dragon becomes Silver.
13: Warlord
14: Dragonlord
15: Avatar - This level is tough to attain without the level up trick.
The level up trick:
Find an Ooze that mutates (Blue, Red, Orange all mutate) and stand next to it.
Repeatedly tap the B button so that the time passes but you remain still, the
oozes will begin to multiply. After there is around 10/15 oozes, kill off all
but one or two. Repeat the process to let them multiply and then do the same
again. If you do this three or four times for four or so floors your level will
go up due to the fact that you're killing lots of monsters. This is especially
useful in the early stages to gain HP, Power, and AC. This is the trick i used
to attain the Avatar level later on.
The Power Trick:
When you begin to encounter King Snails (Orange snails) make sure you're strong
enough to kill them first off. When you're confident with this, let the snail
take a level from you. Then kill the snail, with luck you'll gain the level
straight back (If not kill a few more) and you'll ALSO gain a power bonus for
levelling up. This is useful because when the snail steals a level, your power
stays the same. This trick can make your power rediculously high.
H - Bestiary
Throughout the game you will encounter many enemies of varying strengths some
of which can cause abnormal effects to you the player.

multiply themselves.

Danger: Medium. Witch can cause lightheadedness, Mad Witch can cause blindness.
Both spells wear off. Use Magi Masher to kill easily.
Name: Phantom
Description: A humanoid figure that hops around erratically.
Variants: Three - Phantom (Grey) Spectre (Blue) Wraith (Red)
Danger: High. All can cause lightheadedness, serious attack power. Think before
fighting Wraith.

move until struck by the player. Best left alone.

as mentioned above. Fairly large damage.

Variants: One - Dragon
Danger: Very High. Dragons are the ultimate enemy in this game, they breath
fire at you and cause obscene amounts of damage. Also note that they tend to
travel in packs, I've been attacked by SEVEN dragons at once. Not good.Use the
Dragonslayer sword to kill easier, also have equipped the Dragon Suit armor to
withstand it's attacks better.
Name: Kameleon
Description: Takes the shape of items (Swords, rods, rings) and attacks when
you come near
Variants: Many - Items you pick up ingame, found on floor 28 - 30
Danger: Not too harsh, killed with a bit of effort, but Dragons are more of a
worry on these floors.
********************
*V: Late Game Hints*
********************
A) Keep a large supply of Rods for attack available.
B) Try and have a map scroll or two.
C) Keep a food ring if you have it
D) Always make sure to have optimum equipment on. E.G Your strongest Sword and
Armor.
E) Don't fight enemies if you think you'll lose.
F) From Floor 25 onwards, when you find the warp panel, take it straightaway.
Floor 30:
This is the final floor and it is just as random as any other floor, only this
time you are not looking for a warp panel but the "Magic Goblet". On this floor
it's 90% guaranteed you will encounted a dragon if not many. Keep moving, don't
stop to fight unless it is a must. The Magic Goblet looks like a grey stick
with an orange frill (I never really look at it closely). When you see this,
pick it up. The screen will flash white and you will be treated to the end
credits and a pretty nice piece of artwork for the end scene.

*VI: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)*
***************************************
Q: How come When i played one day a red scroll was a NoRust scroll but the next
day it was a map Scroll?
A: Each time you start the game a RANDOM colour is assigned to each item you
find in the game. One time you'll have the Red scroll as a NoRust scroll, next
time it'll be a different item.
Q: How do i get rid of a cursed item?
A: Use a Bless Scroll.
Q: My sword won't cut? WTF?
A: Some enemies are resistant to some weapons, change your weapon and see what
works.
Q: I can't find <Armor/weapon/item> in the game, what do i do?
A: Carry on, the chances of finding items is random and changes everytime.
Q: What is gold used for?
A: Continuing when you die. I do not think there is a set price on this because
i've died with 4000 gold and not been able to continue, it may be a limit of
three continues. Unsure.
Q: Why did you say <Insert quote from guide> but i found it to be different?
A: I don't know, feel free to send your finds to me.
