Asterix and The Secret Mission is my next FAQ for the Sega Master System
Completion Project. It is a project set up at the FAQ Contributors Board at
GameFAQs to give all Sega Master System games a FAQ. It was started by
Masamune3 in the case of the Sega Master System but there are projects like
that for other consoles too.
Getalix, the Druid is out of Magic! If Caesar finds out, it is invasion for
sure. Asterix and Obelix set out to find the necessary herbs. A mission through
all sorts of Roman-infested terrain - seas and rivers, forests and deserts,
temples and ruins.
[1] [Q]. What are those numbers like [A300] next to the title of every section?
[A] It is the search engine of this FAQ. Press Ctrl and F. Type in the
search code for the section you want to go to. You should be there in
two steps.
[2] [Q]. What is the better character to play through this game?
[A] None of them is better because each of them has separate levels.
[3] [Q]. What are those levels with the Tiny dog for?
[A] Idefix can collect items for his boss Obelix there.
Obelix and Asterix are very different if you look at their body. It is clear
that a type like Obelix isn't as agile as tiny but weaker Asterix. They both
have different controls at some portions.
- 1: Press 1 to punch. If you press 1 together with Up and Down, you'll
respectively throw a potion and drop a potion. If you combine it with Right or
Left, Asterix will start running.
- 2: Press 2 to jump in the air. Press 1 while in the air to do an attack
downwards. Asterix can break through two layers of bricks. If you press 2 again
while in the air, you'll double jump.
- Left: Move to the left and go back. It is not always possible to go to the
left but you can in most levels.
- Right: Move to the right and advance. This is possible in every level.
Combine it with 1 to run around.
- Down: Press this button to duck. You can't slide when you're playing as
Asterix. Obelix his weight really helps with the sliding.
- Up: Press this button to climb or use doors and other tasks that are similar
to this.
Press Up and 1 at the same time throw a Potion. Press Down + 1 to drop it.
There are four kinds of potions.
- Yellow: You'll find many Yellow Potions in the earlier levels. Their primary
and only purpose is to break rocks.
- Red: You'll find Red Potions in the latter levels. Their primary purpose is
to break rocks. They also ignite a flame when you throw or drop them.
- Blue: You'll find Blue Potions in the latter levels. Their primary purpose is
to break rocks. You can also use them to kill enemies although I prefer to use
my own hands.
- Brown: You'll find Brown Potions in the latter levels. Their primary purpose
is to break rocks. You can also use them to shrink enemies although I prefer to
use my own hands and kill them.
- Scrolls: There is only one of them in a level and you need it to reach the
exit. You can't finish the level without it.
- Herbs: There is only one of them in a level and you need it to reach the
exit. You can't finish the level without it.
- Wings: There are plenty of these in a level. If you leave the screen and go
back, it re-appears so you can collect plenty of them. These things give you an
extra life.
- Doggy Bone: These are for Obelix little dog. You can use him for a couple
little coin collecting games.
- Other Items: All the other items in the game are there to restore your health
or raise your score.
You start the game by selecting if you're playing alone or with someone else.
If you choose a Two Player game, you'll take turns to finish each level but you
both do every level. After that, you have to choose which character you'll use.
The game starts with Getalix explaining the problems to Asterix and he gives
him a bit of Potion so that he becomes strong. After that Obelix follows but he
doesn't get any Potion, he already drank enough when he was young.
Walk to the right and grab the Potion. Continue and you'll see a whole lot of
bricks. Brake the first one to get a Gaelic coin. Break the fourth one on the
highest row to get a wing. It gives an extra life. You do this by jumping up
and dropping down after pressing 1. Break the last one on the lowest row to get
a chicken bone. Now continue.
Attack the Roman Soldier dressed in a Cactus suit. Jump up on the hill after
you killed three of them. Destroy the bricks and stand on the source of the
water. It will lift you up in the air. Jump from cloud to cloud and kill the
birds up there. Collect the two wings up there. Jump down and go inside the
tree.
If you didn't manage to get up there, you'll find two Romans on toy horses.
They look dangerous but one knock will kill them. Grab the herb on the ground
despite the way you took. Go inside the tree.
Jump on the hill and ignore the scared soldier. Break all the bricks and push
the one with the A on it to the left. Once that has dropped from the hill,
follow the soldier and keep running until he reaches the A Block. He can't pass
it and you can kill him. Grab the scroll he dropped and run forward. You'll
reach the exit.
Stand still until the bird drops his stone. Jump over the gap and grab the
potion. Jump over the gap again, the river will try to drag you along so you'll
have to avoid standing still. Kill the jumping piranhas and avoid the spikes.
You can stand still when you're behind the waterfall if you want. Continue to
the right and kill the person dropped by the bird.
Do a Double jump over the gap and kill the piranha. Go through the waterfall
and kill the soldier that comes out of the water. Jump and destroy the vase.
Grab the chicken bone and jump to the next portion of the river. Jump over the
spikes and kill the Water soldier. Continue to the right and avoid the birds.
Go inside the rock. Drop down the Waterfall from brick to brick but watch out
for the enemies that are flying over. You can collect all kinds of items on the
way like coins, Doggy Bones, and extra lives. Various stones will come falling
down when you're low. You'll also see the herb when you're down at the lowest
level. Grab it and use a double jump to reach the door.
You're in a cave now. Knock the Skull on the head. Hit the Bat Soldier. Watch
out for the Floating Fire Soldier. He is on fire and will shoot fire every few
seconds. Jump over the gap (use the Bat Soldier if necessary) and hit the
sword. Use the platform and go up to the rope. There is a extra heart there.
Drop down to the lower level and start jumping over the platforms. Defeat the
Floating soldier, go back to the tree roots, and climb up. Climb up the rope
and go to the left. Defeat the items and go collect the Doggy Bone. Go back to
the ropes and go down again. You have to get one the third rope. Go up and go
to the right while defeating the enemies. Use the exit.
Follow the road to the right until you reach the rope. Go up and collect the
Doggy Bone. Go back down and jump up through the wall. Hit the sword and go
back to where you saw the Water coming from the ground. Kill all the skulls.
Do a double jump over the gap to reach the next part of the level. Kill the
levitator and grab the item. Go down but be sure not to fall in the water and
advance to the right. Run against the wall by holding 1. The shock should move
the boulder. Jump on the boulder to reach the ledge.
Grab the Red Potion and go back to the Water. Drop the Red Potion in the water
to vaporize it. Drop down and grab the herb. Enter the door now.
Because Asterix hates swimming, you'll have to surf your way to the Pirate
Ship. You'll have to avoid the fish by moving your surfboard. You can jump but
you can't attack. You'll automatically enter the ship when you reach it.
Grab the Doggy Bone and go ahead. Grab the Blue Potion and advance to the
right. Use the ladder to reach a chicken bone and heal yourself. Go the top
floor and grab the rope the bird is holding. Fly with him. Let go when you're
above the wooden boxes.
Jump to the mast of that ship. Go to the vase on the mast. It contains an extra
heart. You'll have five of them if you followed this walkthrough. Go down the
mast and go inside by using the door. Watch out for the Ghost soldier and grab
the blue potion. Destroy the bricks and leave the room.
Stun the Ghost Soldier and destroy the brick wall. Go over the waterfall and
get down. Go to the left and destroy the vase to reveal an extra life. Go down
and jump from waterfall to waterfall. Use the platforms but watch out because
they will fall down if you're not fast enough. You're safe once you reach the
waterfalls. Go up the ladder and through the door.
Jump to the left. Open the vase and jump over the spikes. You'll come in a boss
area with a Roman throwing fire. Let him throw his fire and get behind him to
hit him. Three hits should kill him. Three platforms will start to move and
you'll have to jump from one to another to get over all the spikes. Grab the
herb and climb up the ladder.
You're on the top of the boat again. Move to the right. Another boss will
appear. This boss is a spinning steel bar. You have to jump over it and hit it
when it stops. It turns out to be two soldiers. You have to attack fast because
they will change again. Stand in the corner when they're coming down from above
to avoid them. It isn't fail proof but you can be hit less when in the corners.
They will drop Shurikens from above too. Five hits kill them. It is the end of
the level and you head back to Gaul.
Watch out for the snowman's carrots. Jump over the gap and over the Roman that
comes sliding down on skis. Advance and pick up a healing item. Go back down
and jump from platform to platform. Use the up route to reach an extra life.
Use the down route to advance. Taking the down route is hard since jumping to
high will bring you on the high route.
The secret to jumping is falling into the gap and jumping out it just on time.
Advance and go to the next part of the level. You'll see place where you'll
have to jump very high. Go back a bit and run. Double jump when you're on the
hill.
After that you'll have to jump over Icy Platforms while defeating those Black
Ghosts of a Christmas Past. They fly through the air and throw ice crystals at
you. Get in the air and knock them out. They turn out to be regular soldiers.
You'll have to jump over some platforms after that, they aren't very wide.
There are Black Ghosts too. Grab the Red Potion and run through the wall.
You'll get an extra heart and an extra life. Go back to the cave that is
completely sealed with ice bricks and break them. Go in and drop through the
floor.
Go completely to the left and move the stone with the A on it. The rock with an
arrow on it will light up. Go to the arrow and you'll be transported to another
cave.
A Dancing Roman is waiting for you. Jump on his head and move further to the
right. Watch out for the plant that shoots Ice Crystals because you can't kill
him. Watch out for the Hammer Soldier that lets Ice blocks drop. You
encountered a similar one already with Obelix. Jump on his head. Advance and
collect the Chicken Bone. There is another Hammer soldier a bit further.
A bit further, you'll have to do a dangerous jump. You have to drop in the gap
and then jump out of it. There is another ice plant after that gap. Jump over
him and go in the door.
Jump on the first two chandeliers and go to the right. There a lot of enemies
here but you can take out easily. Walk on the highest platforms and destroy the
vase. It gives you a chicken bone. Go a bit further and pick up another herb.
Go down and walk to the right. Walk past the Ice Plant and kill the Roman. Go
in the door. Go through the ice, you have to stay at the top to reach the door.
This temple is the final level. There are fat soldiers who jump up and down.
They are moving giant spiked poles. Jump on their head and move past the poles
when they are standing still. Once you get past all three guards, you'll be in
place with fire spitting altars. Run past them.
Get up on the platforms and get as fast as possible on the second before you
are spiked. Jump from the platform and kill the fat soldier. Jump on the
platform again. Do a long jump to reach the second platform, jump to the third
platform with a double jump, and jump down to the first platform from there.
Jump to the door and enter the building.
There are many enemies here. The good news is that the enemies on the ground
are easily killed; the bad news is that you aren't allowed to kill the enemies
that drop down from the ceiling. You'll just have to avoid them. If you do
that, the door on the right will take you to the flower.
After you leave, you can start killing everyone again while advancing to the
right. You'll arrive in a section with evil conveyor belts that bring you to
spikes. You only have to jump right on time to survive. Jump on the enemy that
drops of the ceiling to make it across the gap. You'll have to do a double jump
for the next gap. Run towards the gap and jump right before falling.
Go in the door and you'll arrive in a room where everything is upside down.
Don't be confused. Left and Right have switched positions too. Go through the
door and grab the brown Potion. Kill two enemies and go through the door.
You'll be in the same conveyor belt section again. Follow the same instructions
as before.
You still can't get past the blue statue or can you? Use the brown potion on it
and it will shrink. Jump over it and advance to the right. Use the healing item
and go to the right. You'll have to walk over the spikes before you're able to
move on.
Enter the door and knock the glass mirror so that you can get past it. Advance
and kill the Roman Soldier. Advance to the right. Watch out for the turning
Spiked Balls and activate the sword. Go back a bit and enter the door a bit
back.
Go to the right, activate the sword, and grab the heart. Go back to the left.
Jump over the gap, grab the Brown Potion, and jump back to the door. Go back to
where you killed that first soldier and destroy the bricks. Walk to the right,
activate the sword, and enter the door.
Go to the right and hit the sword. Go back to the left. Walk to the left and
kill the enemies. Walk over the gap because the floor is invisible. Drop down a
level and go to the right when you killed the hanging soldier. Drop down in the
gap and enter the big portal.
The last boss will appear. It is the Roman Leader. He shoots Cannon balls when
he enters and he'll throw axes later on. You can jump over the axes but you can
only avoid the Cannon Balls. He'll go back in the ground after five hits and
come back up again, just like at the start. He'll start shooting Cannon Balls
now. He'll die after ten hits but he starts to spout Cannon Balls at that
moment so you can still die. Congrats, you finished the game.
The game starts with Getalix explaining the problems to Asterix and he gives
him a bit of Potion so that he becomes strong. After that Obelix follows but he
doesn't get any Potion, he already drank enough when he was young.
Run towards the pile of bricks and break them all. There are multiple ways to
do that. You can jump in the air and fall down. You can also break them by
running forward and jumping up to break the blocks above you. You'll get two
coins and a doggy bone.
Advance and kill the guard. Jump up the next hill and break the pot. It
contains a chicken bone. Jump up to the next hill and kill the enemy. Slide
down the hill. You'll kill another Cactus guard in the process. Run forward and
kill the guards on their Toy Horses. Go inside the tree.
Break the pot to grab an extra coin. Go up the hill and kill the Roman soldier.
Slide down the hill and kill the soldier. Press down when you stand above the
Water well. You'll enter a secret room. You have to be fast because the
platform you land on will fall down.
Go briefly to the right and destroy the bricks. Go to the left and start
destroying the top layers of the bricks. Only start with the top layers now. it
will give you a coin. Advance to the left and break the vase. It has a Chicken
bone inside. Go back to the bricks and break them all. You'll get a Doggy bone
and a Coin. Go to the left and kill the Cactus Guards.
Jump on the bricks and destroy the bricks so that you can gain access to the
hidden cave. You'll open the Water source you have to use later. The trick to
breaking the bricks is by jumping on the brick on the right and landing on the
top green path of soil. You'll get an extra life there. Go back up and go to
the right again. You'll be repeating part of the level.
Go up the hills if you want to kill the bird that is flying up there. Stay down
if you want to kill the Cactus Guards. Go to the right and stand still when you
can't go further. The piece of land will start to move you in the right
direction. Jump on the hill before the platform goes back.
Kill the enemy and destroy the bricks on the left. This will give you five
coins. Now break the ones on the right. You'll get a Doggy Bone, a coin and the
herb. Go in the tree. The time limit will cause many problems.
Go up the stairs and kill the Rolling Soldier. Go inside the door and kill the
jumping soldier. Go to the left and attack. You'll find some hidden items. Jump
on the platforms and avoid the nuts falling from the trees. Go inside the
tunnel.
Avoid the nuts after you come out the tunnel. Kill the rolling soldier. Go to
the left, inside the tree. You'll drop down and find a vase with a healing
item. Kill the soldier. Go up the stairs and jump on one of the moving
platforms. Jump to the solid ground when the platform starts to go down.
Climb the ladder. Break the bricks to collect two coins and a healing item. Go
up the ropes again. Kill the jumping soldier and enter the tree. This part of
the level contains two guards. Go to the top floor and enter the door. Destroy
all the bricks and you'll get two coins, a chicken bone, and a Doggy Bone. Jump
to the lowest platform and use the wooden platforms that appeared to reach the
door.
Kill the enemies in the next part of the wood too. There are three of them of
which one hides in the tunnels. Jump on the floating platform and duck. Jump up
to the rope ladder. Stay up there until the other platform appears. Jump of the
platform and grab the herb. Finish the level.
Kill all the skulls and
jump down. Jump through the water to reach the herb and a door.
You start this level under water. There are many enemies there like the Octopus
and clamps. There is just as easy to kill as the other enemies. Your jumping
ability is limited underwater so you'll have to watch out. Swim up the first
platform and kill the Clamp. Destroy the bricks to collect a coin. Go back down
and take the down route this time.
Kill the clamp again and don't forget the octopus. Swim up and destroy the
bricks. They all contain a coin so you gain six coins. Swim to the right and
destroy the enemies on your way. Watch out for the thunderbolts. Kill four of
them and the wall will go down.
Watch out for the sea urchins. You're underneath the Pirate Ship now. Go
between the end of the ship and the second ship to enter the boat. Open the
vase and go up the ladder. Kill the rolling guards. Go down to reach an extra
life. Go over the water to the door. Collect the coins and go to the right.
Go to the right and jump this time. Go up the stairs but watch out for the
Barrel Soldiers that come rolling down. Jump up to the right and go through the
tunnel to reach a room with bricks. It will give you a couple of coins and
Doggy Bones.
Go out of the room again and jump to the platform with the ladder. Go to the
right. You still have to watch out for the barrels though. Hitting those helps.
Go down the ladder and use the door. Watch out for the weird light shields.
Change floor when they pass by.
It starts attacking the top floor once followed by two attacks at the down
floor. The top floor is next again. The down floor is the next again. The top
floor twice and back to the down floor. It will attack the top floor again
before you reach the ladder.
Use the healing item in the vase. If you sue the door, you'll end up coming out
of the next door. Attack the Rolling Soldier and knock on the box until it is
underneath the ladder. It is the end of this part of the level.
You're at the same boat as Asterix now. Go to the left and climb up the ladder.
Grab on to the bird, I pity that bird and let go when you're over the boxes.
Grab the extra heart and go down the ladder. Step inside the door.
Knock the Ghost Soldier to stun him. Break the stones and collect that rock. Go
down into the gap to advance. Go down to the bottom floor and jump on the water
to reach an extra life. Jump down in the pit afterwards. Jump from water beam
to water beam. Make sure not to fall to your death though.
Jump from platform to platform. They'll move so you don't need to do impossible
jumps. Jump when they start to move because some moving will help, other will
die. Once the third one starts to come down, you'll have to move fast. Move on
to the water where you're safer. Destroy the bricks and climb the ladder. Enter
the door.
This level is fairly easy and doesn't need any real explanation. You only have
to move to the right and do regular jumps over the small gaps. Watch out for
quicksand though. All enemies can be killed with one hit except for those big
plants. You'll have to be fast to get over these without trouble.
Do a long jump to reach the second platform, jump to the third
platform with a long jump, and jump down to the first platform from there. Jump
to the door and enter the building.
You'll have to do a long jump
for the next gap.
- Cactus Soldier: This is a Roman soldier who is hiding in a Cactus to surprise
you. That would work if he was in the desert but where Obelix and Asterix live,
there grow no Cactuses. I should know, I live in the same area as them.
- Bird: There are falcons in the air and they want you dead. They are trained
falcons by the Romans and they are very dangerous, they'll come straight at you
but you can kill them fast.
- Toy Horse Roman: It seems like the Romans can't afford to send real horses to
defeat Asterix and Obelix. They look dangerous but one knock will kill them.
- Scared Soldier: This is the only smart soldier in the game because he knows
how to run away when you're near. You have to block his path.
- Stone Bird: There are birds in the air and they want you dead. They are
trained falcons by the Romans and they are very dangerous, they'll drop
boulders that you can't destroy.
- Piranha: These dangerous fish swim around in the water but you can knock them
out of the playfield with one good punch.
- Bird Soldier: These are regular soldiers that are flown to the fighting arena
by the same bird as the one that carries the stones.
- Water Soldier: These are regular soldiers that hide themselves in the water.
Their shadow reveals them.
- Rolling Soldier: These are regular soldiers that hide behind their shield and
come rolling down the stairs.
- Jumping Soldier: These are regular soldiers that jump up and down. That makes
them easy to kill.
- Skull: Some enemy was decapitated and now he has been enrolled by the Roman
Army. He had good dentures because it hurts when he bites.
- Bat Soldier: This soldier watched too many Vampire movies in his free days.
He is hanging on the ceiling half of the time and flying towards you.
- Floating Fire Soldier: He is levitating because of his meditation and he is
on fire. He shoots a couple of fireballs every few seconds.
- Octopus: These are regular Water animals. They can be killed with one knock
on the head. They have long distance attacks.
- Clamp: These are regular Water animals. They can be killed with one knock on
the head.
- Sea Urchin: These are regular Water animals. They can be killed with one
knock on the head. They move quite fast.

to avoid them by jumping.
- Roman Guard: These Roman guards are just normal guards. They aren't disguised
or anything and attack you at sight.
- Ghost Soldier: This enemy is invincible but you can stun him for a moment so
that you don't get hurt.
- Fire Throwing Roman: You'll come in a boss area with a Roman throwing fire.
Let him throw his fire and get behind him to hit him. Three hits should kill
him.
- Spinning Iron: This boss is a spinning steel bar. You have to jump over it
and hit it when it stops. It turns out to be two soldiers. You have to attack
fast because they will change again. Stand in the corner when they're coming
down from above to avoid them. It isn't fail proof but you can be hit less when
in the corners. They will drop Shurikens from above too. Five hits kill them.
- Snowman Soldier: It has been snowing in Gaul and it is a good place for the
Romans to hide. They shoot carrots at you.
- Skiing Romans: There are many mountains in Italia but they aren't good for
skiing so when in Gaul, the Romans take the time to sky.
- Black Ghosts of a Christmas Past: They fly through the air and throw ice
crystals at you. Get in the air and knock them out. They turn out to be regular
soldiers.
- Dancing Roman: This Roman is just dancing in circles. Quickly jump on his
head and he won't give you any troubles.
- Plant: This plant shoots ice crystals out of his head and you can't kill him.
Avoid him at all costs.
- Hammer Soldier: He lets Ice blocks drop. You encountered a similar one
already with Obelix. Jump on his head.
- Fat Soldier: These guys are so fat that when they jump up and down, they
cause earthquakes.
- Storm guards: These Roman guards will do everything to protect their castle.
They'll come running at you without fear but you can kill them without any
troubles.
- Ceiling Hangers: These enemies will drop from chains to the ground. You
aren't allowed to kill them.

later on. You can jump over the axes but you can only avoid the Cannon Balls.
He'll go back in the ground after five hits and come back up again, just like
at the start. He'll start shooting Cannon Balls now. He'll die after ten hits
but he starts to spout Cannon Balls at that moment so you can still die.
