2. Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to my FAQ/Walkthrough for Assault City. While this doesn't seem like a
walkthrough, most of the game is common sense and doesn't really need to be
included. All of the boss strategies are here as that is what never changes
throughout the game and the strategy varies. While I try to describe everything
the best I can, I do make mistakes.
If you have any info that I missed or made an error on something, e-mail me and
if I find it to be worth-while you will get the credit you deserve. Comments
are also welcomed in e-mails.
3. Walkthrough
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you either press start or pull the trigger at the title screen, you will
be brought to a screen with lots of squares.
As you start this course you will notice a person's face on the topleft of the
screen, 19 bullets across the top of the screen, and a robot's face on the
topright of the screen. What this whole "Challenge Course" is to see what
difficulty of the game you are going to be in.
When a square flips over, you will either see a person's or a robot's face.
Make sure not to shoot the person if you are trying to achieve a higher
difficulty. Each time you shoot a person's face, you will lose one point. Each
time you shoot a robots face, you will gain a point. Once you start going over
ten points, the squares will start to flip over faster. Here's how many in
points you need to achieve each level:
0 to 4 Points - Level 0
5 to 9 Points - Level 1
10 to 14 Points - Level 2
15 to 19 Points - Level 3
Once you are done with the challenge course, the results will show up for how
many people shot, how many robots shot, what level you are going to be playing
in the game, and a message describing something related to the level number you
got. Be warned: the higher level you achieve, the faster everything moves on
screen and the faster the robots will respond when on screen. After that is
done, the story will continue and you will go to the first battle.
The first time you play this game, you will realize much different the actual
game is compared to the Challenge Course.
Boss Strategy: Shoot the spinning things on each side of each robot when they
stop before they shoot you. Depending on the level you are on, more than two of
these spinning things will stop at the same time.

3c. Battle 2: From Ruins to Base
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Boss Strategy: When the mouth is open, keep shooting the red flash located on
the right side of the boss. You will first see the boss as a brownish color and
when a successful hit happens, it will flash to green and back. After a few
hits, the boss will turn green. When green and once the eyes are open, shoot at
the same place as before. This time the boss will turn blue and back. After
more successful hits, the boss will turn blue. Try to not let any fireballs go
after you as it will hurt two times as much as the ones in the beginning of the
battle did. Shoot the same place as before when the boss's mouth is open and it
will flash red and back when hit. Once you shoot the red flash enough, you are
done with this boss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3d. Battle 3: Infiltrating Into the Laboratory
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Boss Strategy: The boss will open all of the four small outside eyes at once so
make sure to shoot them all to avoid getting shot from the ones that are
opened. Once you shoot each eye for the first time, they will open at a
different time compared to the rest. The best way to defeat the eyes without
taking any damage is shoot each one in a timely manner. The best way to do that
is just shoot each one as fast as you can.
Once all of the four small eyes are destroyed the big eye will start to open.
Simply shoot at the big eye. The delay for the big eye to shoot is shorter
than the small eyes.
3e. Battle 4: Escape from the Sewage-System
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When going through the level make sure not to shoot the people in the
background or you will lose one life point.
Boss Strategy: The doors you see throughout the screen will be opening for
cannons to shoot at you. All of the doors and robots appearing are random,
but no door or robot can appear twice in a row. Just shoot at the cannon that
the door is opened for. For the rocket robots that appear in the front-most of
the screen on the left and right sides, shoot them in the red flashing area
located in the center of the robot. When a rocket is going towards you make
sure to shoot it in order to avoid taking damage.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3f. Battle 5: Making an Attack on the Security-Guard System
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Try to avoid shooting the red block that flips over as you will lose one life
point if it is shot.
Boss Strategy: Once you get up to the boss make sure to shoot the robots that
run in front. You can't hurt these robots while they are running and they will
stop anywhere so make sure to be prepared to shoot them when they appear on
screen. Once that is done, shoot the red flashing area on the machine in the
background. If the moving thing shoots rockets make sure to shoot them when
they are going down to avoid damage. When you are shooting the thing moving in
the background, it doesn't show an explosion like anything else you shoot which
can be misleading but you are actually damaging it when shooting it.
Destroying the thing moving in the background might take a while, but
eventually it'll be destroyed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3g. Battle 6: Destruction of the Energy Plant
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you first enter this battle, the boss you fought for Battle 2 will appear.
If you need any strategies on this boss, refer to Battle 2.
After defeating the Battle 2 boss the Battle 3 boss will appear. Refer to
battle 3 for strategies on this boss.
Boss Strategy: Once you defeat the Battle 3 boss you will encounter a new
boss. Start off by shooting the things that are moving up and down that are on
the sides of the middle capsule. Once they are destroyed, the four outside eyes
will start to open and there will be four orb-like things circling.
Shoot the eyes on the outside to avoid dyeing when trying to shoot the middle.
This might get boring for how many shots it takes to destroy each one of them,
but it's worth it. To open the center door, shoot one of the orbs. The center
won't attack you so if you destroyed the outside eyes, this is an easy win
here.
Once you defeat the center, you are finally finished the game! Enjoy the end
scene and credits.

4. Other Stuff
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-Every level except the final has objects that float across the middle of the
screen. Depending on the level, it would keep going to the left or
either go to the left and to the right. How fast it moves across the screen
also depends what level you are on.
-When you shoot the gray object, either a recovery item appears in the location
you shot it or three power ups will fly out. If power ups fly out,
make sure to shoot them before they disappear. The more power ups you grab, the
stronger your shots will be.
-When you shoot the yellow object, you will lose power and health.
-In some places you are able to shoot the background and put holes in it. While
this doesn't seem to have any effect on the main game, it's still a nice
feature.
-Score seems to have no effect on the whole game. There's no high score table
and your score resets after you continue.
